[Music] welcome back the BL reactions with beaver and Brian your home for the best movie reactions on the worldwide web today we're watching old boy the original from 2003 uh Park Chan wuk film famous South Korean director and I don't know for sure I don't know enough about his career I have seen this I've seen the Vengeance Trilogy this is the second of those three but they're not related narratively just thematically so that's why they call it his Vengeance Trilogy so you don't really have to see them in order or anything and this one is the flashiest I would say most Hollywood like of the three the other two are more subdued and very [ __ ] up yeah so if you've joined us previously and you caught train buan right up here in the corner we really appreciate that if you would go and hit that subscribe button we uh really enjoy training of basan um so we're going to take a little jaunt down a Korean film path and I just really appreciate the cinematography just it's just cool stories love the culture it's just different and I'm really excited to go down this path that train to Busan in particular and you'll see it with this movie too there's an attention to detail there's an attention to layering different layers of story so that's how you get the meaning uh like we talk about a good horror movie it's a good zombie movie it's a great zombie movie uh but it's really a family drama at the heart of it it's just a great film so yeah excited for old boy let us know like I said before I didn't say this I thought I did in my mind but um you know help guide us down this path of uh Korean films and let us know with partk Chan wuk here what what uh film of his we should watch next if we should just watch the Vengeance Trilogy to start I know he's got a weird vampire movie that I didn't see uh but he's weird you'll see this he's weird this did come from the comments for me anyway I know Brian had seen it whenever I brought it up from the comments haven't seen it in probably 12 years we appreciate you guys letting us know those things there's a few others in there like the The Witcher something like that that looks interesting checked out some um Screen Rant about some Korean films I think the Wailing was number one um on that list and train to Busan was number two so yeah let us know in the comments what you want to see again we appreciate you if it's your first time here go ahead and check us out for a little bit and then hopefully we can uh get you to hit H that subscribe button to come back to us so without further Ado 2003's old [Music] boy love the way uh Chan Park oh Ali hopping right in get oh my [Music] God snatches and clowns that's [Music] miserable oh [Music] [ __ ] two mons [ __ ] bizarre thought it was like a prison cell Maybe is a Korean prison cell I don't know what the [ __ ] is happening I do like a good uh pot sticker there dumpling poor bastard that is amazing don't know what that says guess it doesn't look a whole lot of different than my notes and really [Music] the purpose now what did you see the scars on his knuckles oh I didn't know from hitting the wall yeah yeah you guys got to turn it into a purpose little sha shank action going on here how they just drop his ass off [Music] it feels a little Tarantino is he said that like I think what really what you what you mean is is that it's clearly the work of an of anour it's like very stylized different yeah purposeful oh [ __ ] it's a woman human being yeah oh [Music] [ __ ] this movie is awesome somebody locked him up but also killed his wife and made it look like he did it yeah but why like it's we got about an hour and a half to have that answered [ __ ] is that a direct translation let us know in the comments ah the game has started he's [ __ ] bleeding this one takes me to Donnie Darko the [ __ ] is that supposed to mean oh no way [Music] oh so this had to really happen [Music] Jesus Christ not the way to go about it dude well she obviously doesn't want to use the knife yeah look at the calluses on his knuckles [Music] I get like a amaly like French this movie is very [Music] bizarre is there some sort of cultural significance with ants that we don't know about is there something there that we're missing yeah let us know in the comments please well she said it's always ants that come out when you're lonely [Music] but hey if you like what we've seen so far please go a and hit that sub subscribe button check us out on patreon yeah do both full reactions on [Music] patreon he's done with dumplings I'll tell you what wouldn't happen in the United States the same restaurant wouldn't have the same name because when you open a restaurant they'll [ __ ] sue your ass they'll send you like a cease and desist or they'll try toless is blue dragon is a franchise oh [ __ ] that's nice of him oh [ __ ] I could see why you would think that yeah but I can also see her not knowing she's being used yeah she clearly has no idea what's going on oh guess we're going to find out out oh I forgot about this oh [ __ ] oh my God the tongue [Music] [Applause] man wow I think I'd [ __ ] find out pretty quick this is very [Music] famous ow oh [ __ ] oh the sound of the punches is terrible feels like a old western having a knife sticking out of your back can't be great for Mobility [ __ ] pred something for 15 years regardless of its I mean essentially you're making up your own he's pretty [ __ ] driven too I you how sticky that would be uhoh this is just bizarre like have no idea two men hugging nothing wrong with that you better hope he cares vengeance is [Music] [Applause] healthy teeth pain is like the worst thing I can [ __ ] imagine [ __ ] is that an ice pick leg speech fore spee spee romantic [Applause] [Music] not not bizarre at all [Music] no Evergreen fore [Music] seems to have touched a [Music] nerve not easy to do do that's impressive [Music] it's quite the [Music] outfit but that gives you a little Head Rush [ __ ] teenagers [Music] [Applause] [Music] I am so confused right now why thought it was his [Music] sister fore fore for I love how they're the same age right like pretty close but yet prison it seems to have aged well that guy's wealthy too oh it was got him a little [ __ ] stamp well they weren't rumors they happened the [ __ ] is going on it's kind of the [Laughter] point giving me chills [Music] you 15 years like that's it not why did I lock you up why did I let you out it's [ __ ] [Music] nuts what's in the box very jokery here we go people oh I'm getting chills I don't want to know what the [ __ ] no oh she's his daughter oh no what are you people in the comments subjecting me to like the most [ __ ] up twist oh I want to throw up yeah no [ __ ] that's the same movement he was doing in the very beginning you thought the torture was being in prison for 15 years [Music] oh yeah I forgot about this no [Music] no would you bleed to death from that I hope so oh that's sickening and what's crazy is like it's the same scene twice and your thoughts about it are so completely different what a great villain [Music] for [Music] there's like a long list of [ __ ] in this movie that just makes you wse thinking about it yeah just keep shaking my head over here for no reason other than my memories there's our red again just well yeah obviously I remembered the the main twist but there was some crazy [ __ ] that I did not remember in this one there's some crazy [ __ ] I don't want to remember this yeah it's an a I mean man great movie great Revenge movie like just layers of [ __ ] upness like the best you can make a John Wick film it feels like that kind of action but then you're just constantly like thinking there's just so much depth and just and that's the difference is that like the the focus was to make uh a like a great story it's stylized but it's it has some of those action elements and the the Vendetta where he's literally fighting and maming people to get answers but I mean the other I love revenge stories obviously Kill Bill is up there with great great revenge stories there's others um Death Wish is one of the oldest ones SE that one Charlie Bronsen uh let us know in the comments some other great revenge stories looks like our friend here has been uh traumatized to his core you tell about how quiet he is yeah that's like a Twist you do not see coming at all no no not but it makes sense if you go back and think about the movie The Wings the movement that he did There's um points of conversation like the bad guy is always talking about like time like school and his lesson and he's lecturing him so there's like little hints along the way like that man when they said like why did I let you out then it's like yeah what the [ __ ] yep and you're just like oh [ __ ] something's about to happen and I still that never that twist never [ __ ] yeah exactly yeah let us know in the comments uh your first time seeing this and how mind blown you were man that's just a great story it's so crazy the other two movies in this uh Trilogy are not as um they're different I would say but um but they're still about vengeance in general and essentially like what what human you know like what what are we capable of like what kind of a monster can you be turned into and it's like did he really deserve that was that really his fault um cuz he didn't it wasn't his spread a rumor he told his friend what he saw which sure he ran his mouth like all teenagers do most adults [ __ ] do that and no it's trying to spread blame to somebody else when it's your fault and you can't live with it so you have to live with vengeance that you've created in your mind which essentially is another hypnosis that he put himself under and it's kind of an interesting point with revenge in general where it's just like where did it even start and what you know like what with with this story it's you know the the bad guys like saying this is your fault I blame you and this is all my elaborate scheme for vengeance you know but you think for most of the movie it's actually Odis Su who's seeking Revenge but it's really re it's like you're getting revenge on somebody who's already getting revenge on you and it's just like this he's just toying with it yeah well and even like there's that little subplot with the guy whose teeth the guy who owns the prison where there's this back and forth between those two now to with it's all just once it starts it never stops because the other person has to always retaliate yeah and it's just also like be very careful about your purpose and and fulfilling that purpose but at the same time like it was all completely made up of him trying him feeling responsible but then placing the blame somewhere else so that he doesn't have to which we do a lot of in society not to that [ __ ] extent but uh but we definitely do that as humans oh I thinking like part of the hypnosis part of it is I mean it you I would think thematically speaking it's you're you know he's hypnotized himself anyway to like for his desire both of them for their desire for revenge and you put it in as a plot device you know and it's sort of like what's really driving you and that's kind of the point of most Revenge movies anyway is some not all some of them are just very surface level which I enjoy but this has got so many layers of like what's really like asking these [ __ ] or raising questions about the nature of it and like what's really going on and he's not even I like is he even really like ODU I mean he's been hypnotized and he's triggered to do certain things so how much of it is he really choosing to do in the first place you have to think about that yeah he did nothing wrong and yet throughout his whole life this guy is just been sabotaging he's kind of an I mean they don't make there's no I'm not saying he deserved this but he is he was probably always an [ __ ] in life and he's kind of a [ __ ] and they don't make any bones about that yeah however like that this is Extreme yeah I mean this without question okay the quote is um even though you know paraphrasing even though I'm a beast do I not or no better than a beast don't I deserve to live yeah and that's kind of the point is like you get this the only thing you know about his past is how big of an [ __ ] he was he wasn't there for his daughter's birthday like he was drunk getting arrested yeah it's a I mean it's pretty epic if they fit a lot into two hours oh my god oh yeah and your mind is just going the whole time and that from what you know for what he what he how he behaved as a teenager is like not really outside the the scope of what you'd expect from just a normal shitty teenage I mean they're all shitty I don't exclude myself from that but I was looking forward to this but then when right in the middle of it I was like man I don't want to be watching this [ __ ] again like God damn it it's great movies it's a great style great I mean it's another we we started talking about this uh we definitely mentioned it during dunker but like within five 10 minutes of this movie you know you're in the hands of somebody that knows what they're doing and there's very distinct choices being made like you're always like somebody's always controlling the story you don't feel like no nothing is accidental in this movie it's Fu it's great work a genius I would say yeah mad genius you know we ask for recommendations in the comments this is one of those I'm not sure I want to ask again but I guess I'm going to what's our next what's the next Korean film we need to see I know parasite is one that we should probably watch it's a newer movie neither of us had seen that I know it's great I know it's different best picture right yeah yeah the host is another one that came out a few years back the host on the list whing oh what was another one the gangster the I can't remember it's like three three names there with the guy from train to Busan the bigger guy oh yeah cool he's awesome uh let us know if we should watch uh sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Lady Vengeance which are the other two movies uh Mr Vengeance was first next or not Mr Vengeance was first then this then lady Vengeance and I want to say lady vengeance is like even more not they're all different but I mean it's [ __ ] up golly well well that's a lot for a Saturday morning folks um if you would go ahead and hit that subscribe button for us putting ourselves through this and you get to enjoy it
