foreign I'll try to restore this very old and beat up stool as you can see someone has already attempted to fix it but they didn't do a very good job and with the nails they just completely missed it it will need some serious TLC so let's see what I can do all right the top was pretty straightforward to remove but I had some trouble with the remaining pieces [Laughter] [Music] to soften the glue I use my steamer and that did the trick [Music] as you can see despite these pieces being glued together there are huge gaps and I need to do something about it but before I do that I need to take the rest of the stool apart and it was quite difficult because on top of some glue being used someone also used nails and because they were embedded in the Grain and also very Rusty I couldn't really get them out so I had to get creative and I knew that I would end up with some damage but I could also fix it so foreign I guess sometimes in order to fix something you need to break it first foreign so because of the nails I ended up with lots of small repairs I had to make but it was okay I was able to mend all of it and I got there in the end [Music] and this is just one of the ways I was able to patch the holes that I made to get the nails out foreign to take this heat apart I use my steamer and soften the glue this was actually quite satisfying to do but also to watch and just like that I was able to pull all those pieces apart okay foreign big gaps in the seed is not because of the extra glue but because the joint that someone created was broken and someone tried to repair it several times and there just wasn't much left of its repair so after I cleaned it all up and I tried to fit it together I realized that it just wasn't gonna work so I decided to remove the joint all together and re-glue those pieces [Music] green s [Music] [Music] [Music] I made sure that I removed only what was absolutely necessary to get a nice joint because I didn't want to change the size of the seat and make it smaller the reason I'm using brown glue for this is because it's very strong but it's also reversible so if someone ever needs to repair this again they can just use steamer or heat and it will be pretty simple to take those pieces apart foreign because I know that when you glue two boards together the way I'm doing it here the bond is going to be stronger than the wood itself so I was pretty confident it was going to be plenty strong [Music] [Music] and for the damaged leg I just glued a piece of wood in place of the missing bit and I shaped it the way it was supposed to be this is probably a good time to say how much I appreciate all of you beautiful and generous people for supporting my channel and allowing me to do what I do I literally wouldn't be able to do this without you and for those of you who do want to support me you can do it via buy me a coffee by hitting the super thanks button down below or by checking out my Amazon wishlist link but the easiest and the free way to show your appreciation and support is to Simply make a comment like the video share it with somebody else or subscribe this tells the algorithm that you like this video and it will recommend it to other people and finally huge thank you to the members of my channel now back to the video as you can see this looked pretty awful there was lots of paint and weird Gunk and glue and Nails stuck into the wood and I wanted to clean it up a little bit and remove the nails before I could put it through my planer make it flat and make it look better there were some small Rusty Nails in the wood that I couldn't get out so I just pushed them in foreign just like with the joints I removed only what was necessary because I didn't want to compromise the strength of the seat and make it thinner [Music] it looked like something or someone chewed on the edges of the seat so I used a routing bit to fix that [Music] and just like with the rest of this seat I only removed what was absolutely necessary and I finished it off with my sander and the foam pad so I wouldn't flatten the curves and because there were still lots of little cracks and holes I used wood filler to take care of those I also wanted to say thank you for your response to my last video that I will link in the end screens it's been pretty overwhelming and it seems like you guys really loved it so I hope you enjoyed this one as well [Music] [Music] not sure if you can see that but there wasn't really any varnish on the legs they were just really dirty and Incredibly stained with what I think is ink so that's pretty much impossible to remove I have used oxalic acid hoping that it would get rid of some of the stains but it won't really do anything to things like ink so I had to come up with a way to cover those things I applied two coats of oxalic acid and I rinsed it with water afterwards but it didn't really do much other than just bleaching the wood a little bit but the stains were still there a few moments later [Music] I also used oxalic acid on this seat just to make sure that the tone of the wood was the same everywhere but then I decided that it would be nice to do something extra special for this old stool so this is what I did foreign foreign [Music] I thought that those brass dowel thingies whatever you want to call it would look really cool against the color of this tool that I was going to put on it but before you can see that I still need to do lots of little repairs to the legs because they were just really beat up so I used the wood filler to take care of all of those and then spend a long time sandling by hand 2 000 years later foreign [Laughter] do you remember when I said I would repair one of the legs later in the video this is how I did it [Music] I wanted a nice warm brown color for this project so I went with Jacobian the repaired piece of wood needed a bit more stain to match the rest of the leg the reason the edges are stained and not the top is because I sanded it off I just wasn't happy with the way it looked so here I'm just applying clear coat and then I'm gonna apply like a toner on top of that foreign I was pretty happy with the color and when it was dry I gave it several coats of satin clear coat this is always my favorite moment in a project when you apply the finish and the color comes to life and I'm very happy with this one do you remember all those ink stains as expected this stain that I applied didn't really cover all of them so fortunately likely toner did the trick and I was pretty happy with the result the reason I decided to stain everything together before I did the gluing is because it was just much easier so I made sure I was very careful with the glue not to get it everywhere so I put all the pieces together and I let it dry before I applied clear coat given what I started with I was actually very happy with the result the color and everything else and the brass just looked amazing simple and elegant hope you guys like this video if you have comment like And subscribe that helps me a lot and if you're feeling extra generous you can buy me a coffee or you can hit the super thanks button see you in the next video foreign [Music] foreign
