Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
that kid driving is lucky as fuck. and the dude in the rotator did a pretty solid job saving that load for him too. gonna guess he aint gonna pass inspection now though.
So, fun fact.
When you're securing with no headache rack, you are required BY LAW to use whatever securement you've placed on the very front of the load two feet directly behind it. So at the very least, two chains in the first five feet.
This guy had too few chains, no friction pads, and was following too closely. He's lucky, dumb, but alive.
Oh, and as Marek pointed out, the cab held together well only because he braked normally then hard late as opposed to braking hard early, so the steel slid only in the last few seconds of forward inertia.
I'm amazed how well the Volvo cab held up against that, any other truck that steel woulda been coming through the windshield..
That's how my friend died. Exactly like that. X chains across the front of sheet piling, or die.
Don't haul steel without a bulkhead or headache rack.
It's not worth your life
Look at this guy. Martin Scorsese with all the camera angles. :-)
