hello i'm greg with primal rights so i've been seeing a little bit of content showing up and the claim is made that a bronze brush a standard bar brush is going to damage your barrel and i've seen pictures with these massive gouges in the lands and the claim is being made that that is from a bronze brush well let's just see about that shall we here in the vice i've got a benchmark barrel six five creedmoor this thing is probably eight years old has in excess of 4 500 rounds through it and we're going to take a look at the borescope real quick i'm going to show you guys a real close-up view of the inside of this bore now it hasn't been cleaned in forever i just rammed a few patches down it right now so that we could see some of the geography so we're starting in the chamber end here and as you can see this thing after 4 500 rounds is definitely showing some signs of wear let's get down the barrel away shall we so here we are about 20 inches down this 26 inch barrel and you see the 5r land configuration and i mean this barrel is looking pretty good this is a testament to benchmark barrels here folks there's the end of the barrel there all right so i'm going to back this up and we're going to go right at about 24 inches so just a couple of inches back from the end of this barrel so just a quick look that's just a couple inches back okay so we see what the bore looks like i mean this thing is not this thing is not in terrible shape okay all right yeah uh bristle bronze brushes uh damaged the rifling huh okay oh no i reversed stroke oh no a reverse stroke let's see let's let's uh let's get a bigger brush shall we this brush isn't big enough let's go to a seven millimeter brush so we know that it's just making nasty aggressive contact oh look at that reversing oh no oh oh yeah i gotta really pull on that in order to get it out of there yeah that's i mean that should for sure just like wreck the bore right let's let's stick this up let's like bend the brush yeah there we go let's let's really destroy the rifling with this bronze brush yeah there we go i mean running this tip into the rifling and just ramming it in there like that you know like that should do something right that's gonna that's gonna wreck the bore isn't it let's have a look in that same place of the bore that we just drilled and tried to destroy oh looky there no damage whatsoever the only thing we did was make the bore shiny that's it that's all we did we just cleaned it really really well that's all we did we cleaned it to a mirror polish does it look like that brush damaged this boar even when i was ramming that thing in there crooked like literally trying my hardest to use a bronze brush to wreck this bore and that pit was already there we saw it earlier that's just standard pitting so maybe you can damage a barrel with a bronze brush but it would have to be a crappy barrel let's see if we can back up a little bit to where i didn't hit it yeah you can see the transition of kind of where it goes to from a mirror polish and right back here it's kind of dull where the brush didn't actually get to let's just follow this land yeah look at that transition it's like right right through there let's just follow this land out and all of a sudden it's just mirror shiny yeah yeah so that's kind of conclusive isn't it now granted i didn't grab pin gauges and see if the board grew or something like that bottom line the picture that i'm seeing has these gigantic gouges through the rifling through the lambs and the claim is being made that those gouges were produced by a bronze brush and the bristles themselves are responsible for it now i don't doubt that you could get some crazy lapping compound with material that's hard enough and if you wedged it in there just so maybe you could produce that kind of effect and wreck your rifling like that maybe there are barrel manufacturers out there that are producing barrels that are so soft and so sensitive that you could damage them with a bronze brush basically i've shot benchmark barrels and nearly nothing else in my own personal rifles for at least roughly eight years time and in that time i have not damaged any of my barrels with a bronze brush i bronze brush them as a matter of course every single time that i clean them and if i can't noticeably gouge the rifling in this thing with a drill and an oversized brush and reversing stroke you know literally breaking the bristles over on a reverse stroke but there's nothing that you're going to do during a normal cleaning process with a rod guide and a good stainless rod if you guys don't know where we're we're selling these pro shot micro polished stainless rods you've got a good rod like this a rod guide to make sure that you're not coming off access all crazy but frankly as you've seen even if you're not doing that how is the bronze brush going to be the thing doing the damage after what you've just witnessed is it even possible [Laughter] and if it is possible maybe you better think about switching barrel manufacturers you
