an ambitious fifth grader Shauna Drew's love to learn her love for school was overshadowed by the difficulty of carrying her backpack every day while walking to and from school every day the burden of the heavy bag made her load too much to bear as she carried textbooks notebooks and other materials for all her subjects in the bag her posture was slouched and her shoulders ached by the time she reached home one day as she got off from the school bus someone noticed her posture he stared at her with compassion it was the school resource officer Matt Baker he saw her struggling with a backpack and decided to do something about he introduced himself to Shauna and asked if everything was okay Shauna explained her situation and officer Baker was surprised to learn about the weight of her backpack at first he thought nothing of it but he had no idea how deep things ran the girl was carrying a heavy backpack for a Sinister reason the officer let the girl go on her way despite watching her struggle his heart went out to her it irked him that she had to carry so many books but then it dawned on him what if there was another reason she was carrying such a heavy load he decided to investigate further as the resource officer it was his job after all WR the next day officer Baker watched the girl more intently she stepped off the bus and into the school but something was very wrong where's your backpack honey tears immediately streamed down the girl's face as she looked back at the already moving bus she'd forgotten her backpack inside officer Baker knew what he had to do he decided he'd follow the school bus driver and try to get the backpack back but he had no idea what he was getting himself into after following the bus in his Patrol vehicle for a few blocks the bus driver stopped at a local landfill officer Baker felt dread rising up as he saw what the bus driver was doing he couldn't believe it he had to take action and Report the incident to the school authorities but first he watched him in morbid curiosity but what the bus driver dumped in the landfill had officer Baker's heart racing he knew he had to confront the man alone but that was the biggest mistake of his life shaa Drew was a funloving energetic middle schooler who seemed to excel in every subject she took her parents were proud of her and thought she was a prodigy but just one thing held her back from being truly happy coming from a poor family despite her family's Financial struggles shaa was determined to succeed she worked hard in school and participated in extracurriculars such as the school's debate team and math clown Shauna's parents couldn't afford expensive tutoring or specialized resources for her dyslexia but shaa didn't let that hold her back officer Matt Baker the school resource officer had always kept an eye on the little girl the teachers had told him about her unique struggles and he was always ready to help her if he needed to but he was about to notice a strange change in the girl that he couldn't explain and it had everything to do with a school bus she rode on every day one day officer Baker noticed a strange change in A's Behavior she seemed more anxious than usual he asked her if everything was okay but she just Shrugged and said she was fine however officer Baker's instincts told him something wasn't right he had no idea that Shauna's strange Behavior had everything to do with a school bus officer Baker had been stationed outside the local high school keeping an eye on things and ensuring the students arrived and left safely one morning as he was surveying the area he noticed Shauna get off the bus she looked tired and worn out with dark circles under her eyes officer Baker couldn't help but wonder what was going on as she headed toward the school building officer Baker followed her discreetly keeping his distance so as not to make her uncomfortable he noticed her backpack seemed to be getting heavier and heavier with each step she took he wondered what could be inside it that was weighing her down so much but the truth was so much worse than he could have ever imagined officer Baker decided to try to let it go he felt like he'd gotten to know students well enough to understand their individual behaviors and shaas was definitely off school stress problems at home or just puberty could have all played a role in why she didn't seem like herself he knew there was an explanation for it this trend kept up for weeks shaah would step off the bus with a heavy load and head to school he knew it wasn't good for her back but what else could he do the officer brainstormed before deciding he'd have to approach her he just wanted to State his curiosity and ask her what was in there each step was a struggle as her backpack weighed heavily on her just as she got off the school bus officer Baker was ready to step in and help her he noticed her posture and offered assistance he saw her struggling under the weight of her backpack and decided to help and that was his chance he asked her about it but Shauna's reaction was strange officer Baker noticed the way her shoulders tensed as he approached her he didn't know if it was because of the weight of her backpack or because she didn't want him to approach she innocently looked up at the man as he stopped before her let me help you he said trying to remove the backpack from her shoulders but she instantly flinched back and turned away from him Baker was taken aback by the girl's reaction it was obvious she didn't want him to touch her backpack but why he wanted to ask her about it but shaa was visibly uncomfortable he decided a gentler approach that looks heavy I can help you carry it to class if you'd like he politely but he could see the distress on her face shaa stood motionless before him for just a second she glanced around herself the backpack was digging into her shoulder blades and the pain was excruciating she wanted nothing more than officer Baker's help but she couldn't accept it she couldn't risk him seeing what was inside no I can carry it she said in a small voice but officer Baker could instantly tell something wasn't right he stared down at the little girl she refused to meet his gaze instead staring at her feet her Palms had grown sweaty as her stomach Twisted she was feeling anxious and tense but officer Baker could tell something was stressing her out is everything okay Shauna is there anything you'd like to talk about he pressed but he had no idea how bad it truly was Shauna didn't know how to respond to his question so she decided to stay quiet she was just hoping the man would stop asking questions and walk away if officer Baker saw what she'd hidden inside her backpack she'd get into trouble but she wasn't the only person who would have to suffer serious consequences officer Baker kept her mining himself to remain gentle and patient the little girl was ignoring him at this point but he suspected that a part of her wanted to say something for the last few weeks he could tell the girl was carrying a heavy secret would she finally open up to him he decided to get to the point and ask the question he'd been dying to know the answer to also if you have not done so already please subscribe to our Channel and click that notification Bell to get inspired by these real life stories every day now back to the story what's inside your backpack that's so heavy shaa concern flash behind the girl's wide eyes shaa wasn't raised to lie to her elders but she' promised not to tell anyone else about it her mind was racing her back aching from the weight she desperately needed to get to class and put the bag down she was in pain it's a secret the bus driver said I wasn't allowed to tell anyone she finally said desperate for officer Baker to let her go but this information only concerned the man even more what did she mean was it something the bus driver had given her why was she not allowed to tell anyone what it was his stomach Twisted into a tight knot as he looked at the bus it was still stopped in front of the school and when Baker glanced in its direction the bus driver was staring right back at him with a concerned look on his face officer Baker was only distracted by the bus driver for a moment but that was enough for the girl to zip off to class he was now left without an explanation for what she'd said but he decided to do something else his eyes were Now set on the bus driver he would investigate him further and now is the perfect time he watched as the bus driver gave him one last guilty look before avoiding eye contact and driving off in a hurry where was he going he was supposed to drop the bus off at the Depot before his break but he was taking the bus with him wherever he was going officer Baker knew what he had to do something about the driver made him m easy he'd seen him around the school premises a few times and every time he saw him he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off officer Baker followed the bus driver after dropping off students he got into his unmarked patrol car and trailed a bus driver's vehicle from a distance as the bus drove through the city officer Baker kept his eyes on it trying to figure out where it was going but soon he lost sight of the bus and he couldn't find it anymore he was about to call it quits and head back to the school what he noticed a turn he hadn't seen he decided to take it hoping it would lead him to the bus driver's bus the turn led him to a deserted area of town and he soon realized he was in an abandoned warehouse District as he drove further he saw the school bus parked outside one of the warehouses officer Baker felt a chill run down his spine as he realized he stumbled upon something he wasn't supposed to he had no idea what was happening inside the warehouse but he knew he had to find out officer Baker's heart was racing as he peered through the small window of the warehouse his suspicions about the driver had led him to this deserted area of town and now he couldn't believe what he was seeing the bus driver was talking to some people he didn't recognize and they were exchanging with a appeared to be large sums of money the atmosphere inside the warehouse was tense and officer Baker could tell something terrible was going on he quickly took out his phone and stapped a few pictures of the bus driver and the unknown individuals he knew he had to report what he'd seen but he also wanted to gather as much evidence as possible as he turned to leave officer Baker's foot hit a loose Rock causing a loud noise he froze wondering if he'd been heard he quickly moved away from the window and stood still waiting to see if anyone would come outside after a few tense moments officer Baker realized no one was coming and he breathed to S of relief he made his way back to his car trying to remain calm and collected but as he put his hand on the door handle he heard a voice behind him he whipped around and saw the bus driver he didn't look happy to have been caught officer Baker had no idea what was going to come next he hadn't told anyone where he was going he could be in big trouble that's when the bus driver explained himself I know it looks bad but I have a reason for doing this you better start talking then baker said I look after my mother and right now she's ill I needed to get money for operations so so I've been using my lunch break to sell some of my possessions from my house he said tears in his eyes officer Baker was taken aback maybe he'd misjudged him he decided to leave and try and put it behind him but he had no idea he was making a mistake driving back he thought about everything the bus driver said but then he realized that it didn't change the fact the little girl struggling with her books was acting strange too something was going on and he wanted to find out what but now that he had been caught once he'd have to be careful officer Baker knew that he needed to get back to the school as quickly as possible who knows what could have happened while while he was away he raced back to ensure he was once again protecting the kids the bus driver was still on his mind something wasn't right he may have been able to explain his Shady business this time but there was still more to it than that he got back and walked his normal Patrol route through the school he walked along corridors and thought about Shauna she was the key to figuring out what was really going on the bus driver wasn't going to be able to get away from him forever he was going to get the truth out of him one way or another that was the first time he realized the situation had the potential to be dangerous he assumed the girl was carrying a bunch of books and maybe even toys most of the girls would be carrying these things but not shaa the girl had given away too much and now that he knew the bus driver had something to hide to everything was falling into place but now he knew the bag contain a dark secret he decided to stop shaa between classes he wanted to ask her about the bus driver but she seemed reluctant to stop he could tell shaa wanted the conversation to end but he couldn't leave it at that why did he say you're not allowed to tell anyone the little girl rubbed at her tired eyes she was becoming emotional and cranky but Baker was only trying to ensure she was safe he needed answers he said they'd fire him if they knew what he gave me I promised him I wouldn't tell she said this only said off more alarm Bells officer Baker's blood was starting to boil he couldn't help but feel the bus driver had somehow taken advantage of the little girl I need to go to class now the little girl said her head hung low as she pushed past officer Baker on the inside she feared that something could have happened to the bus driver she should have kept her mouth shut officer Baker watched the little girl walk away she was struggling with a weight on her back why wouldn't she just let him carry the bag for her it didn't make any sense he turned back to the bus driver from the look on his face Baker could tell the man was panicking he feared the girl might have mentioned something officer Baker sent him a warning gaze if the man was doing anything to harm the students he would pay for it as that day pass officer Baker couldn't stop thinking about the interaction every time he closed his eyes he could see the girl's sad eyes in the back of his mind he had to solve the mystery if it was the last thing he ever did the following day when the officer saw the little girl step off the bus he could tell she noticed too she avoided him like the plague but as she walked past him he spoke up do you need help with that he asked once again he already knew what the response would be but that didn't stop him from asking Shauna insisted she could handle it by herself it seemed like a lot but he knew she was a scholarly student he initially thought nothing of it but as more days passed he soon realized this was no ordinary backpack as a school resource officer it was his job to investigate the matter further he hadn't spoken to anyone about the matter he wanted to check what the full story was before he caused a fuss that day he spent his time time thinking about the matter he didn't know how to go about him he assumed that confronting the man wasn't the best choice little did he know that he'd have the perfect opportunity to very next day the next day officer Baker observed shaa more closely when he saw her without her backpack he knew he had to act the young student explained that she' left it on the bus he decided to follow the school bus driver to see if he could retrieve it he followed the bus in his Patrol vehicle for a few blocks until the driver stopped at a local landfill officer Baker watched in horror as the driver cautiously dumped the backpack in it he knew he had to report the incident to the school authorities but before doing so he decided to confront the driver himself unfortunately it turned out to be the biggest mistake ever the officer had no idea what kind of man he was dealing with when he came into view and approached the driver officer Baker approached the bus driver before he could get back into the yellow bus he'd see the man toss a backpack into the landfill and was curious what are you doing at the landfill he asked his voice firm but not accusatory the bus driver turned to face him looking flustered oh just dropping off trash he said gesturing to the guard garbage bags piled up behind him officer Baker's eyes narrowed as he looked at them they seemed to be mostly filled with food waste and another household debris but there was something about the way the bus driver was acting that made him suspicious that all you're dropping off he asked the bus driver hesitated then shook his hand no there was something else in the backpack but it's nothing illegal or dangerous I swear officer Baker motioned for the man to follow him let's take a look just to be sure he said leading him way over the hill as they approached officer Baker could see that the backpack was buried underneath a pile of garbage he gestured for the bus driver to start digging keeping a watchful eye on him as he did so finally the bus driver pulled out the backpack and unzipped it his head was turned down shamefully as he showed the contents to the officer but what he saw only left him more confused on closer inspection it wasn't shaunas there were a bunch of old textbooks inside of the bag he was tossing them into the landfill he asked the driver to explain himself he explained the school had given him duties other than driving the bus one of them was taking the school's trash to the landfill the other was properly disposed of some misprinted textbooks that's when he brought up Shauna Baker knew they had some kind of relationship but what was he going to say You're supposed to get books recycled why are you throwing them out here Baker asked knowing a thing or two about the school's policy that's the thing I decided to give Shauna some of the misprints because other than one or two mistakes they're perfectly good what does that have to do with a landfill though Baker asked more confused now than ever the mus driver explained that if he only brought a partial amount of books to get them recycled they no books were missing it was better to just unload them all and tell the schoolie recycle them privately everything made more sense and officer Baker felt like he'd misjudged the driver it seemed he too cared about the students Baker told his school bus driver he'd speak to the school board perhaps in the future misprints could be supplied to students who couldn't afford normal textbooks if the mistakes weren't egregious he grabbed Shauna's backpack off of the bus and headed back to the school in his patrol car he had a newfound understanding of the little girl he arrived back at the school and knocked on the open door of the English classroom he peered in and smiled before finding where Shauna was sitting her face lit up when he handed her little backpack back to her she thanked him before leading in and saying don't tell anyone about Arnold's secret Baker looked back at her and then he realized she was talking about the bus driver he hadn't even gotten his name from that day on officer Baker became not just a guardian of the school but also a friend to Shauna he helped her with her backpack checked in on her to make sure she was okay and even arranged for some of the teachers to provide her with extra support and resources shaa never forgot officer Baker's kindness and support and she went on to graduate with honors from high school she always remembered the officer who had noticed her when she was struggling and who'd gone out of his way to help her and of course Arnold the bus driver who'd helped her with the textbooks in the first [Music] place
