hello my name is ant and you are watching survive the night and in this episode I'm out with a very very special guest it's not a hiker it's not a wild camper it's not even a bush crafter it's not even a person to be honest with you it's an item and this very special guest has been uh sent to me by o ex you've got the clips throughout they've done away with the hooks which is fabulous news oh and all this is mesh at the back now that's great for the light to come in in order for you to purchase a tent at this this type of price then um you're looking at having to seem seal it yourself I tell you what pause the video now run off into the kitchen make yourself a brew and then come back and we'll talk about the uh the specifications of both I'll wait for you o ex have uh finally been enlightened well I am very impressed let's try it oh oh there is no footprint just noticed no footprint and I'm not getting in a tent with boots on you don't do it do you do you do you do it answer us in the comments below right let's have a chat about uh cost now so this is going to retail at so you've been mistaken into thinking it's just the ox Bobcat one but it's not just this Bobcat one it's an ultra light version of this awesome tent now o ex have uh finally been enlightened and they've decided to want to uh collaborate with [Laughter] me oh yeah so I just want to say thank you so much to O ex um for for actually accepting uh this collaboration and uh I want to thank you guys mainly because if it wasn't for your comments um on my videos and on other people's videos as well saying that um you know I've tested this bad boy out for well over a year now in All Seasons all types of weather and I have yet to break it it is still going strong and um and I think like I said the comments that you guys have uh po down in in the uh the comment section of every single video for over that that lifespan of a year um have really helped out and pretty much um put me on the map as uh basically the Bobcat King so yeah I seriously want to thank you guys for it anyway let's get this one up first and then we'll have a look at the new one I want to do a little bit of a comparison video so first off we're going to go for weight so the weight of the original one is uh 1.9 kg which on the grand scheme of things isn't that heavy it depends on what you're used to and I'm used to a heck of a lot of of Kit I'm basically carrying it for long periods of time and and uh and things like that so Bobcat the weight 1.9 kilog doesn't really affect me but if you was to do a lot of multi-day hiking and and and backpacking and uh other types of um wild camping then you are possibly going to struggle with uh um something of this this weight but for me 1.9 kg isn't that much and for those who are new to the channel and haven't yet watched all my uh my bobcat videos or any bobcat videos um it is literally a one pole tent and you'd be forgiven in thinking that a one Poole tent oh than heck can it withstand wins up to 50 mph oh my God just list this red unbelievable the wind is just literally forcing my hand that well G up to 50 m hour well trust me it has done and that's just with one pole and the pole just slots into this nice little metal eyelet there but you do have a little bit of a an anger issue sometimes trying to get it into that into that um that hole there it gets really tight make sure that these are fully outstretched and what I tend to do is push the pole down on one side just to uh get it clipped in the pegs well they're just a standard Peg really light alloy and um what I've tend to notice through the use out of them and possibly quite possibly my fault in not drying them off properly but they do corrode slightly um which leaves them looking a little bit shameful to be honest with you I have sanded them down and uh it has helped a little bit but yeah just remember to dry these pegs out if you're going to go for one of these tents so at the back you've got three Hoops attached to the tent itself and those Peg out the uh the back of the tent and away from the fly that's inside I just want to quickly speak to you about the fly to be honest with you I haven't had no issues whatsoever with rain uh well basically with the back of the uh the tent touching the inner and I know that a lot of people have and there are mods out there people have asked me about mods and whether I'll do them and to be honest with you I've never really found it an issue I've never once woke up wet with uh either condensation or um or wind blowing into it and pushing and wind and rain pushing it onto the the inner inside it's uh it's never affected me so um but yeah I do get a lot of people have actually mention that and they are experiencing that issue so we'll have a look at the inside uh in a minute when we've we've pegged out the guidelines so the front is exactly the same as the back so you got three three hoop points where you Peg it out as you can see there and uh the Third one basically the middle but that's the door now if you were hunkered down and it was real bad weather and I have done it in the past up on the mland I've pegged that out just to keep the door T if I'm cooking in that area so uh so it's not to to get it uh caught so yeah that's the only reason that I wouldn't generally uh Peg it out and with this one you get some little nice round eyelets to uh draw the guy in which I really I really like these they're dead simple to use and uh I've had no issues whatsoever so there's just one tie out point at the back and that is what keeps the uh the inner separate from the back that a lot of people have been having issues with and your final tie out point at the front and then that just pulls out your nice little rain cover at the top now what I like to do with a rain cover is instead of pegging it out like that bring some walking poles with you because you can stretch out the guy line further and attach the walking pole over the top and that lifts up the uh the rain flap gives you more uh more room to get inside the tent inside and out and it also um well it just it just helps with with rain distribution as well because it's not sheating it down and Landing straight in your porch area which really annoys me let's have a look inside it so you greeted with two um two velcros strips running up the side just to protect it um the door is one of the the Fantastic features of this tent because it open it's so versatile it opens in so many different ways if you have a look throughout my videos you'll see I use pretty much every single way so uh yeah that's a massive bonus and then that door just literally tucks down inside a little pocket area there and it reveals a nice little footprint which is your final two pecking out points just before I unzip the inner let's talk about the uh how it attaches to uh to the outer so you can use the Bobcat as just a t shelter really in the summer months you don't really need this but uh depending on how many bugs you like crawling over you I've never I've never attempted to just use it as a tap but it does fasten you've got nice little um little clips that go through little eyelets and lock in as you would do when you're pegging out the door and things like that on tents that have down the side but at the bottom they've got little hooks and what I found every time once you set it up see like the Banshee you'll set the Banshee up and once you've put the inner in it stays in but with this it doesn't do that the hooks come out and you're in all types of uh of walls especially through the winter months when you're when it's battering it down with with rain and wind and you're you're struggling and and scatting about trying to hook these uh these points in so what I've done is I've made a little mod which uh goal pulse Clips so net on a goal pulse you have um the your neet goes over the actual poles and then you've got a little tieout point so these little plastic Clips uh they're just like an S Clip and uh it's perfect it which never come loose so I'll put another Link in the description below for uh for those clips the amount of people that have asked me where to buy these from so I'll put a link down below and just click on that link and purchase some yourself there so literally you've got um got a half Mesh Door and it opens out into I mean look at that the that that to me I don't see an issue at the back of the um there is plenty of space to to miss the back out and I've as I say I've never had any issues at all with that so I can't complain about it I know Leon has he's had a little bit of wet um seeping through in the morning and wet his sleeping bag but for me I must have pitched it right angled it right in the wind and the rain and it's never affected me inside you've got two pockets one at that side one at this side and then you've got the floor in there which is the same uh material as uh the footprint here and uh yeah that is pretty much oh you've got a nice little hook here that is it that is pretty much it that is the Bob Cat one that is it look at the size of that look at the bag so this is the ox Bobcat one ultra light Edition now there is a range of ultra lights they are brand spanking new to ox and um yeah I urge you to go and check them all out check the range out fingers crossed o ex will send me more to review and uh and test to the max now as you guys know on this channel I do not mess about I uh I take things to the Max and hopefully Beyond fingers crossed it survives but um some of the time it doesn't doesn't quite hack it and um I've told the guys that that's how I kind of work with uh with with my channel because I want to bring the best uh quality items for you guys and being that I am I'm mainly a budget camper because I can't afford all these fancy tents and things like that I can't I just cannot do it you may see them on the channel they may be other people's or we may be in uh collaboration with with tent makers and and things like that but that will be the only time that you you saw um a more expensive tent on on my channel and uh ox uh renowned for Budget camping Quality Equipment and I don't want to say that in a in a way to offend um o ex because it's not like that you want to be able to afford to go out and camp with your family you want to be able to afford go and do a wild camp and you might not you might not have a a gazillion pound to spend on a on a tent I don't I have I haven't I haven't got that kind kind of money but these tents are um suitable for for all um all WS of Life basically you know you you will be able to afford something like this and we'll go through the prices um of each of them a little bit later on but yeah budget camping all the way on this channel first look at the bag this is all Sil nylon material so it is ultra Ultra lightweight and uh you can tell you can you can feel it the the difference in it so what's the what's the the difference the clips they seem to be um a lot like the uh the old clips that are on the original Bobcat bag but as I as I say the bag is like next to nothing it really is oh there we go something's fell out and another things fell out so as you can see this is the first time out of the bag for me so you're experience in it as I am so we've got we've got pegs and we have a repair kit now the repair kit so we're in so yeah that's your extra extra pole just in case any breakages on the main pole you can use that just to get you through the night and then the other two items are whoa a brush a nice extra piece of material just in case you get any TS You' be able to uh to repair it yourself and then also this which is your Silicone seam sealer so yes you do have to seam seal this tent unfortunately well it's not unfortunately I have sealed seam sealed tent in the past and had no issues with it some people get a little bit nervous and think that they're going to ruin the tent by doing so but um I've never had any issues when I when I've done it and I've used storm sealer in the past which is um a good a good silic corn sealer and I've um SE sealed the F1 tent the French army F1 and I've had no issues with that leakage and it looks perfect so don't worry about it um we will end up seam sealing this and I'll do that in another video and I'll just show you how easy it is but first off let's have a look at it let's get it all set up and this is the first initial review so we don't want to be faffing about seam sealing so let's take a look at the pegs and for me I'm not a massive fan of these type of pegs if I'm honest with you um I I much prefer the hot ones uh they're a lot simpler and uh a lot less dangerous because when you're pulling them out you've got to be really careful with these so um yeah just your standard um exan P Peg well star pegs so we're on a gray pole and that pole looks to be very similar yeah same thickness so the funny thing was when I was speaking to um to Adam who's been looking after me at o ex he actually come on and said uh basically listen an we've watched your videos and we know full well what you you tend to do with them with these tents and things like that and he's basically said under no circumstances is this a Four Season tent and um should not be taken into very high winds because it's not made for what you've been punishing the other bcat with so uh yeah I need to just kind of calm down with this one slightly but I wouldn't be taking out an ultra light tent in all weathers and uh um basically smashing it to Pieces um through the winter months you just wouldn't do it would you this is basically for people who love to get out there and do multi-day camps maybe bike packing and things like that and um yeah it is definitely not for uh Four Seasons activities so just pegging it out what's different well gone uh the black Loops are replaced by these uh little white toggles which are oh wow so you just basically lift them up and you can extend them or Draw them back in depending on how you want to use it like that oh yeah you just lift it up look at that lock it back down oh like that so you just just have that added extra length now with this feature with the Y Hooks and clips you have that added length now that you can pull it out and really get this tall that is Fab I really like that idea so still the same at the back there's three pegout points the one at the back doesn't have one of the wire Clips on it so just noticing look at the size of the uh the rain flap compared to the other one wow that is Tiny now there would be no real reason or advantage to to bring the the tracking poles and Peg it out with the tracking poles so just having a look at the guy guy outlines and the uh the ring nuts have been replaced by just simple plastic line nut which I've got a couple of tents that use these and uh they're really effective so that's uh that's okay like I said I enjoyed using the um the ring nuts but that that isn't an issue right that is pretty much it we are set should we have a look inside it so again velcro smaller three of them as well oh that's nice great action on the great action on the zip you've got to have great action let's have a look ah so no uh nope so there is no pocket inside so that that's a noticeable difference again so let's just roll it up here they are so it attaches to either side is it either side no it's just one side so that's no big big issue there we go and it's got a nice little push clip so you just push it down and uh draw the uh the string up to it and it just locks it tight in place so you had like a nice piece of tape going across there just guying the points out on the original one that's gone that's uh done away with and we've just got a guy rope just running the length of that and uh and keeping everything Tau you've got the clips throughout they've done away with the hooks which is fabulous news you will uh you will really appreciate that when you're putting a tent up like this and uh yeah they're gone that is fabulous so you don't need to buy the um the the gold clips that I was talking about if you was to get the ultra light version you'll still need them for that one though uh but this one has come with these nice little clips and uh yeah the inner will stay secure at all times so that's brilliant that right have a look inside here so the door I would say is more mesh than um than Sil nylon oh and all this is mesh at the back now that's great for the light to come in fabulous and you've got a pocket there just one pocket there's no pocket on that side and you've also got a nice little tie out point there that's just come off bit lots of it so we'll need to fit that back on before we go out so that just Clips onto the back and just pulls the uh the inner much more away from you the inner door is the same as the original where you can tie them out just there with those fabulous new clips which are great just little draw Clips push in and pull it nice and tight do that side as well well I am very impressed let's try it who so the floor is exactly the oh it's not actually no it's different it's a different material but it's very thin so you need to be really mindful of where you're pitching and uh make sure that the area is totally totally cleared before pitching I've got um a tar that I'm going to start taking out with me now and putting that down first on all tent so that's a that's a must for me now but yeah that'll be definitely something uh something to look at now I'm not going to test it and lie down cuz I ain't taking my boots off and I'm not getting in a tent with boots on you don't do it do you do you do you do it answerers in the comments below you get in your tent with your boots on tell Leon he he it baffled me that absolutely baffled me but uh yeah but looking at it it looks as long as the um the original so we'll have no issues with that and it will certainly fit any mat that you've got single person mat in the as is a one man 10 so oh there is no footprint just noticed no footprint so um if you have a look on the um the ox website and there is actually a link there is um a little scan link you know those scan links that you get if you scan that with your phone that takes you to uh Black's uh website and you can have a look at how to pitch this tent from from the if you don't want to use the the instructions provided but you've also got um a link that isn't working cuz I checked it this morning uh for a footprint so um they are looking at possibly getting a footprint for this sorted so that would be handy but obviously it um it puts your weight up a little bit if you're if you're conscious of lightweight camping [Music] o that's good I tell you what pause the video now run off into the kitchen make yourself a brew and then come back and we'll talk about the uh the specifications of both I'll wait for you right are you ready have we got a brew right let's begin cheers everyone anyway so uh this one so I purchased this for uh for the grand total of 49 quid and uh yeah it was a bargain at the time Leon S it he found a website that was that cheap so we both purchased them and the rest is history um you can purchase this now at um go Outdoors for £79 and uh it retails at 225 quid so it's still retailing quite High I have had a look this morning on uh other websites and uh yeah they tending to be around about 80 85 something like that so go Outdoors is the cheapest one to purchase it from as of this video this morning um so yeah that is the price you guys know the weight of it the H static head is 5,000 which is phenomenal it is really good um and uh that will protect you from any any type of rain and it has done with me um the material is very very thick hence why it's a lot heavier than the ultra light there it's um a 30 to 40 denya so like I say that's the thickness of of the material and you can you can actually tell um but as I've said it weight isn't really an issue for me um I would quite happily take this out but I must admit know that I've got that and any type of um Mountaineer camping that we'll be doing over the uh the spring and summer months I'll be taking that down to subject to weather forecast that is so we're now on to the Bobcat ultr light version and it is ultra light it weighs in at 958 G so that's not even a kilogram uh and that's that's with I adding up the material as I say is still nylon and you can tell the total difference it is so so thin it's 10 Dena as well so that's a big difference from 30 to 40 over the over the Over Yonder The hydrostatic head is totally different this is um 1500 on here which um will keep you keep you dry anyway um but you just bear in mind that it is for uh I would say I would say it's two seasons yeah I I would definitely say spring and summer um and a push I mean you know if you're doing these these massive walks and and things like that that people do and uh going from coast to coast and stuff like that you want to take something like this and uh yeah this is ideal for that so yeah 1,500 for um the ad static head so the reason why you have to see seal it it's the the material is actually an enlightened at s nylon and it's coed on both sides but you can appreciate can't you the the cost of it and we'll go into the cost of this in a in a second um but in order for you to purchase a 10 at this this type of price then you're looking at having to seam seal it yourself because there's just no way that o ex would be able to uh one afford to to get all of these tents don't come because they will be mass produced won't they because they are a budget uh a budget um Ultra lightweight tents so they're going to be mass produced and you can't expect them to basically seam seal every single tent so that just wouldn't happen it takes up to uh 12 hours to to dry out so I'm going to seam seal this on the the the camp the first camp that I do on it um subject to weather um so yeah so that's the reason why they provide you with the uh the seam sealing equipment to do it and and why not you know what I mean it's no it's no real big deal is it to uh to seam seal it yourself and I'll show you that process in the next video coming up so uh don't be afraid of it right let's have a chat about uh cost now so this is going to retail at 350 quid and there's going to be a special price of uh 175 I believe and don't quote me on it but that's uh what they're looking at at possibly um setting it off at a special price there so I think for for an ultra light camping tent like this uh I don't think that's a bad price at all that is still uh within budget range for for for most people hopefully 175 for a Ultra lightweight tent that is bluming good really good so so that is it end of the video please comment below on your thoughts of this ultra light 10 and uh what it could mean for you getting into places uh or getting further a field than just you know with a a normal uh tent on your back but yeah something like this will uh will make me want to walk more hopefully I might even do the course to cost who knows but I can do this now with with something like this so I just want to say a special thank you to Adam over Ox for uh supplying me with this beute I absolutely love it and I knew I would do because come on it's bob cat in it at the end of the day and uh yeah I am I am really really impressed with it and cannot wait to give it its first uh test out which will be coming up ASAP so stay tuned for that and uh yeah thank you to you guys once again because if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have had this chance to Showcase this to you today so uh yeah thanks guys for all your support in past and previous videos all right take it easy and we'll see you on the next one bye
