Via Transilvanica is a long-distance trail, designed for hiking, cycling and horse riding. When fully developed, it will be approximately 1,400 kilometres and will run from one end of the country to the other, from Putna to Drobeta Turnu-Severin, passing through almost 600 communities. In the summer of 2021, the Tășuleasa Social and the people of the trail have set up the longest section of this route: Caraș-Severin. It's the most beautiful dream possible. You could have neverd imagined such a dream. And working on a project like this is either something you only dream about as a child, or maybe you are trying to imagine what it would be like if it were true. Clearly miracles are happening and... this project somehow belongs to Terra Mirabilis, it's there, in a place that's almost miraculous. I left Bucovina in the rain, everything was vibrant green, but the kind of green that almost looked like a painting. But I arrived in Caraș-Severin and all of a sudden, everything turned yellow so I say to myself: it's obvious, here we are further south. I'm Daniel Moise, I'm 43 years old and I am a travel guide in the south of Spain, in Granada, I have been walking on Via Transilvanica since the 24th of June 2021. I have 44 days. I think I am reaching the 1,000 kilometers mark today, and I entered Caraș-Severin eight days ago, this is my eight day and the last one on this part of the trail. This sector has 256 kilometers in total, if I'm not mistaken and I have left... 22 plus 12, 34 kilometers which I hope I'll be able to finish today. All of them. When people ask you: why do you walk on Via Transilvanica? Well, you keep on walking and then you stop and say: wow! Actually, I was really wondering: why do people walk on Via Transilvanica? Right? Could it be about metaphysical explorations, meeting yourself and stuff like that? I don't know, I just like walking. We have started working in Caraș-Severin since 2020 already, we began negotiating, to put it this way, or proposing options for the trail, looking for the best ones available there. And we had, like I've said it before, the chance to meet a few people who could help us with some route proposals. Basically this is how we start working in every county, we try to work with local people, because they know the areas best, all the places where Via Transilvanica could cross. We are steel-makers around here, we have been making steel for 250 years and... we are not necessarily proud of this, we are proud of what people before us achieved, it's our tradition and we keep it, events included. We have reached the seventh edition of a bike competition, which is called Metal Enduro. The fact that there is so much tradition around steel here in Reșița, 250 years of steel-making, somehow forced us to move forward and each in his own field of work, to do something that would remind us all of this tradition. Strictly from my point of view, Via Transilvanica was... I don't know how to put it, a pain in the ass, I don't know. It was something that I was very much in demand for, at least regarding the route design, and not because it was something impossible to do, it was somewhow unbelieveble that I was the one to get this task, I mean I was honored, but because, well I don't know how to explain this more concretely, I had to overlap some layers. The first layer was, let's say, the requirements of the route. The trail can't reach high altitudes, the trail should reach spectacular places, the trail should not follow asphalt roads, it should reach communities. Halfway through this adventure of planning the route, we had 27 final options. Ahh, father! It runs on gas as well. So, you made fun of that big car of ours, you have no idea where that car goes! It definitely doesn't go here. We'll come equipped next time, you'll see. Well, this is the best car for these roads. Tibi can't even drive it... Well, you are a good girl, thank you very much for your help. It was my pleasure. As of right now, is this the route we're using to come down from there, from Liendenfeld, in order to reach Brebu? We hold on all the way? Well it's terribly beautiful. I should be in the office, not here. It was harder this way than it is round there. Wait, so we can have a look. No, go round there, Tibi, it's more solid there. How much til Liendenfeld? We're not there yet. How much longer? Is it just you in this whole village? Yes. But where is your man? He's inside. Is he healthy? Is he all right? Not, he's ill. What's wrong with him? He's got the flu in his lungs. But, how old are you ma'am? I am 76 and he is 81. To many years ahead. I wish you stay healthy. We who work on Via Transilvanica, before having started this project, we saw some stuff in our lives, but never, never such a forest like what we've seen in Caras-Severin. So, I think there is nature and then there is nature in Caraș-Severin. For Via Transilvanica, for everyone who will walk there, it will be a challenge, Infrastucture is missing and in a way it's fine like this, but we are at kilometer 1,000 on Via Transilvanica, so whoever made it this far, has the training. So where to? Over here, in the valley. There? No, no, over here, over here. Ah, over here. Yes, haa! Be careful not to take the wrong road. Yes, alright, but is it good, the road? I don't know what to say, I don't know how it is on the ridge, I haven't been there since last year. Come on! *to the cows* Get out of here uphill and then go through the valley for a little while and then you'll see two... "ramications", how do you call those? You must not go to the right, you turn left, straight into the valley. And then you'll reach a house and from then on, I have no idea how good the road is. No, now you have to go a long long way, get to the top of the hill, up there, do you understand me? Then you go into the valley, go through the valley, you will see the traces from our car, up until you reach this meadow, don't turn right, turn left, straight into the valley, Oh, shit. It's hard. It's difficult until you figure it out, it's been the same for every county. Anybody can do easy. Yes, yes, yes. A hiker, what does it mean? Well, it's about walking. I think that once in a lifetime, everyone should become a hiker. It's a challenge and the fact that you wake up every morning, not knowing what's going on you don't know where you'll be by the end of the day, whom you'll meet, you have no idea how the day will end. Most people say: no, I have to prepare everything in advance, make plans, have everything I need with me and whatnot. Well, sometimes you don't need all of these, I mean... in most cases, long-distance trails like this one they just happen, I mean... I mean you start one way and then throughout your journey, you adapt. I realized I had overpacked. I had brought food with me and camping equipment, I mean I thought I would be going into the wild. Not at all. Everything is done along the way and... It's like they say, the four day initiation. I think that if you get over the first four days of your journey, with blisters, pains, muscle soreness, the whole package, well, if you get over the first four days and you still want to keep on walking, I think it's done! No one can stop you from hereon. So there is a railway track in the path. Yes. Fuck! And this goes until Oțelu Roșu? Yes. Come on, don't be scared! This is the railway route. Can you see it? This is it! Aa. You can see the ditch over there. Good morning. Here were the crossbeams. Do you see how they took them out? So, right through here. Look, the dicth on the left. Do you understand me? God damn, this to me is heaven's hand. So this is the route. This crosses the water, this is the railway embankment, it's stone. Here we are right on the railway embankment. Look, it has a small bridge, it has everything we need. And there the water runs, the stream. Here we can sit on a bench, in the shades. This is it... In two weeks time, we'll be walking on this trail together, hand in hand, with a bottle of champagne, mister Lupșan, but you have to help us. It is in your powers, you know that, don't you? Well, we are not against it are we? There we have the "Gates of Steel" of Transylvania. I think that even the Romans had plenty of trouble entering through there, so it was obvious that this enrance point is an important gateway for Via Transilvanica. There are two main possibilities, either we enter throgh the national road, which is an extremely busy road, or we could get an old railway as a passage, with the help from the Ministry of Transportations, which we actually did. We'll have to see about that, I have to talk to the Minister, we haven't yet... This only after an assessment. So that's as far as you have it set? Yes, where there wasn't a railroad line before, we use a bulldozer, we can level it. And form hereon downwards? Well from here to down there, let's decide! Which way should we go? So, from here you come out somewhere in that little alley over there and we'll have to see the connection between them, where the dispensary is and the portion from down there, I don't know what's the connection they have here. But from down there, there is a pathway, it's even paved all the way to where my place is. ... is it connected to Obrejeni, if we take it to down there? No, it's not. It's not? Not even if we make a path behind the dispensary, along the railway? No, not even trhough there. No, no. What do you mean no?! We could make way in your area and then over there to your place, following the asphalt, to where Vasi lives, over there, downwards. We can make a little path, about 2 meters wide just enough to fit bikes and stuff. Along the railway. Yeah, but... There are plenty of properties and those people won't allow it. You've heard it, he said they won't do it, because of the properties, those aren't public domain. I get it, but we can talk to the owners, we push it a little bit, forget it, we'll give them a meter somewhere, let's see. Let's find a solution so we don't have to go around. Because if we make the path over there, through the back, and go all the way to Obrejeni, and then from Obrejeni, it would go down you know, and enter in my area. So we don't have to go on the national road. And it's a great option, because the trail passes by people's households, next to the cauldron, close to all the good stuff. This is what people want. Mister mayor... Lăiță is my name. Short from Nicolae, everyone calls me Lăiță. Nicolae, Nicolae... Lăiță. So, call me Lăiță, short from Nicolae. If we don't do this right... I'm on it, starting from tomorrow, I'll be all over them. You understand, we have to see what to do about it. We would have liked to choose the route on that other road, but it's too long, it's rough for the feet and the bikes... The thing is we have to find a way to leave this road that passes by Voislova. We only have the ramp. Yes. There's no other way. We only have the ramp, to Pocaci, yes. Well, it's where we went that time, in the evening. But can't we use that way? There's no way, there is no road over there. Through over here. Ah, right. Over here. Through over here, but the problem is it's closed down, since no one ever came through here. Well, people from around here could take advantage of the trail, but like I said it before, in ten years time, you won't even be able to recognize this place. God help us all. Let's make the route through here then. So, it's settled, this route is ideal. We'll make it through here... This is ideal... Next week, I'll send someone to cut up all the hay, Yes... with a tractor, I'll ask him to cut out everything, so we can see the difference. Yes, yes, yes and we also need to cover up these holes... I will fill them up with dirt, with stone... It's settled then, when we start doing something, you know, God forrbid we stop to embarras ourselves! Because if we go down, we all go down, so we can't let this happen. I don't think so. Caraș-Severin is the longest county. It's the longest county we've worked in so far. Really? Yes. Two hunderd and what? 256, it's 100 kilometers longer than the former longest county we had so far, Mureș. Right. Good. Man, look at this one! People walk from one milestone to the next one, they are looking forward to the next one, as a reason to walk one more kilometer, it would have been crazy to think that it would be enough to promote the country with words and expect people to walk from Putna to Drobeta Turnu-Severin, for over one thousand and four hundred kilometers, unless we would also provide a real reason that we could use often along the way, as a reminder. And this is what milestones do. So, you are curious to see the next stone, what work of art was executed on it, firstly, I think, you are curious to walk by one more stone, because this is how life is, to walk one more piece of the trail in order to see how that new one is... the stone makes you feel confident, it lets you know you are not lost, Hello, Moise. Where is the truck with all the milestones? The one that's supposed to come to Reșița. How many stones do we have in Caraș after all? 256. Do you have a phone to check where he is? The handover of these guards that will stay on the edge of our route is the most important thing, is like putting the label on old wines or like the religious and the civil ceremonies of a wedding are performed on the same day. Caraș-Severin is the longest county on Via Transilvanica, so from Tășuleasa Social to here, there will be 1,000 kilometers, we all live on the same path. And I've learned something else, because it is the longest county, it's the most difficult one as well. We are waiting for the truck to arrive... made available by the kind permission of Mr. Romeo Dunca for this action, we will unload it here, with everything else we have to do. We are ready, and we publicly declare here, that we are available to help the rest of the communes and localities in the county, places where people have difficulties in installing these milestones. Tourism development in the county is the only real chance for change. It's a joy when you can do what you do and find that it's an achievement. Via Transilvanica is going to be an achievement, it will be an achievement for the county, it will be an achievement for the whole of Romania, it will be an achievement that will belong to those who had the courage to think outside the box. On the 24th of July, we'are all going to celebrate, or I truly hope that together, we can launch this project in Gărâna... It's a strange feeling, this, when you're nearing the end, you say to yourself: dude, it's going to be over, like, very soon. And now is now and after that what? Man, I don't know. I'll have to see. I feel like staying a little longer. But I'd still like to get there at the end. You know, at the school for guides we learn how to interpret sculptures at first sight. So this is when you say: this sculpture was made in granite, not, this is andesite, and it represents baby Jesus inside an alien ship. It could be, right? Art is subjective, so you can interpret it in many ways. This whole thing can be at some point the largest outdoor sculpture exhibition in the world. So, how do you introduce this, ok, Via Transilvanica, the largest outdoor sculpture exhibition! In the world! I think it's fantastic. More, more, more, more. Well, I could have done it much better, but... He's not pushing himself. I don't want to push myself too much, we have more places to go. I was hoping I'll never go back to drinking this. Dude, I still drink Diet Coke. It's unhealthy. Either you drink Diet Coke, or... Well, at least it has zero calories. Seriously, bro! Ok, fine. Seriously. Then why didn't you get Diet Coke? There wasn't any. What do they have there? Some damn stones, I don't know. Aaah. Right, yes, yes. Unload it yourself, bro! Well yes. He came over here. You come here with all that load, you unload it yourself bro. Lets see. Lets see, what do you have there? Rocks. Two and a half tons. Big ones. And the mayor said he'll get it done. You city boys. You think. You... these are city boys. We can carry each of them with our hands, quickly into the bulldozer's cup. There are many. That's 30 stones. One weighs 250 kilos. Ok then, we can do that, but if one breaks, that will cost 1,000 euros. None will break, we'll hold them, we're only balancing them. I am not giving away any money, the thousand euros. Come on guys, it's working, shut up already. I'll hold it, but I am not paying anything. I'll hold it, but I don't care, whatever happens, I'm not paying. It's on me, I'll take full responsibility. I'll pay if I have to. Then let him come on this side, so we can put them here, on this side. Maybe you can come with the bulldozer... Guys, put that thing in the middle, for fuck's sake... You are not that great of a driver, you are good as a day labourer. What do you mean it's not getting there, get it out through here. That's what I'm doing. Wait, wait. Wait a second. Secure this. Easy. I'm scared now. I don't know if I can watch. Easy, easy, easy. Easy, easy. Make this one short too. Get it from the other side. Like that. Good, now move it, move it slowly. Alright, alright, alright. Make it shorter like that, so they are at the same level. Well, I can't because... Leave it as close to the ground as you can, Dani, so it doesn't fall. The emotional baggage I had felt today, was weighing much more than the load of stones from today, and that from tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. We wanted to tell you: polenta, fried cheese... But we'll be back here... And fried eggs, you can only eat them here, in our area, you should know that. Well, we'd gladly try them out, but what are we supposed to do, go to Lăpușnicel and come back? We don't have other solutions. Ah, I think it's better this way. But you know we have to install these, these stones must be installed by the community. I know. We have been crazy worried, but now that we met you, some of the worries went away but I did say: God, how will the community in Prigor be able to install all of the stones? We are in good relations with the local school as well. Before coming to the Town Hall, I was working for the local school. I know, but the school has nothing to do with this, because... Yes, but my colleagues, I'm talking about the teachers... Yes. They will support us all along. But you need tools and machines... you have to understand a stone weighs 230 kilos. Well, you might as well consider we have everything we need at the Town Hall. Well, in this case, I'm not worried anymore. Yes. I've loved the people, I've loved the places, I've loved the traditions, I've loved all of the customs. And I've always been attached to my parents and my grandparents. This is the reason why I never gave up, so I never left my birth village, I kept coming back and finally decided to permanently move back in the village I was born in. This whole area that includes our commune is called: the Valley of Almăj ("Valea Almăjului") or how some of the local poets call it: the Valley of Miracles. And I think you will also discover the miracle of our area. We are rediscovering our roots. We are rediscovering what Romania really is about. Either we're talking about history, or maybe just about a community. Maybe this is the very place we would not have discovered otherwise. It's probably the best business card for us Romanians, as a nation, as a community. If you want to be an ambassador or a volunteer, I think you have to put in the work. You have to get involved. So that's what I did. I think it's also very important to give an example, your own example. And it's even easier if you're really passionate, you have people around you who feel the same about what we are colectively doing. *sings a song* "Maybe today I have no penny to my name, tomorrow I might have 100," This is a good one, right? "... so help me God." How much longer to Reșița? Not very long. Yes, we're not done it. But the "T"-s look amazing. Really, did you like them? Yes, they are wonderful. But you've got a long way to go... Now we look like those car cowards. They were walking, while we were...anyways. Like Simi Deac and the guests sing in one of their songs: the wheel of life is turning. If the route is all set up, we don't go with big teams, we choose smaller ones, but we make sure the people know what everything is about and are ready to mark the trail for multiple days. First of all, we mark the trail with paint and then, we install intersection poles, indicator poles that will guide future travelers on the right way. And at the very end of the process, we install the milestones which represent the heaviest part of the making of the trail. Working with volunteers is super important for our project because it's bascially the way it was created, or rather, this is the way the project is being created: working with people that wish to get involved in making this trail happen. It's so much easier when it's three of us, oh my God. If it were four of us, that would have been even better... Yes, I wouldn't have to work on... Yes, so you wouldn't have to work on two of them... Semenic-Cheile Carașului National Park Walking 15 kilometers a day is a pretty big deal, especially for someone who maybe isn't that used to doing this on a daily basis. But, because I really wanted this so bad, every extra kilometer makes me go further. And when you strat walking more than two, three kilometers a day, as one usually does in one's daily life, this sort of makes you discover things you have not seen before. Walking 15 kilometers simply teaches you to pack less, it shows you that you don't need that much stuff as you thought you did. You just need a water bottle, something to eat and take your backpack. I preferred to take my days off and use them here. It helps me find a balance that, maybe, over the year, I haven't found. This is because you reach communities, that teach you how to live life in a simpler way. One of the many joys of Via Transilvanica. A cool day. Only 34 degrees Celsius. I can't take it anymore. The paint dried out. Warm water, so good... we can add some herbs and we're making tea. Don't touch the poles, not even the electric wires that fell down to the ground! Is this written somewhere? Hello. Hi. Is the shop open? Right now, it's closed. No way, I can't beleieve it. Well... Is there anybody around here who wants to give us two beers? No one. At this time of the day. No one's coming to give us one beer. Good day. Good day. Is the terrace open? It's closed. Well, we can try calling out for the lady at the shop, where the black car is. Does she have beer? She has beer. Cold beer? Where? Closed. They have icecream too. Hmmm! *calls for the lady* Doda Eleno? Doda Eleno! Doda Eleno! Doda Eleno? She's not here. The stories from the travelers inspire me because they make me understand what this project is all about, because really, they are the only ones capable of telling you why we need to be making this trail. I met people that quit their jobs in order to hike this trail, others that had health problems, so everyone has a reason for going on this trail... a personal reason, but eventually I came to realize that everyone was looking for some sort of healing, either from a real disease or the disease of ... a shitty job, or a broken marriage, or... There are plenty of people who strated walking on this trail, in order to make their relationships stronger, or... And a lot of them say that it did help them. I had the experience of the Camino de Santiago long-distance trail in 2015, and I chose the Camino Francés, which has 756 kilometers, if I'm not mistaken, and there is a possibilty to make some sort of triangle, to Finistère so in total, there are 970 something kilometers. So I can say that I walked around 1,000 kilometers. There, as it was my first such experience, it was very helpful to have a guide dedicated to pilgrims and hikers. I was mostly inspired by this guide. One trail. People... take their backpacks and start walking. When you think about it: ”Why is this so interesting to people, am I right?” It's exactly what you've already asked me. If you can only imagine how much culture there is behind the Camino de Santiago trail, for over 500 years, people have been making pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela, without some of the infrastructure that is avaialble now. One million people on Camino Francés, in 2019. It's a touristic product of Spain. So how could you say that something like that... wouldn't work wonders around here? It's so surreal, I have the feeling that... I am looking at something like a photograph. Would you beleieve me if I told you I saw something similar in Switzerland? Not somewhere else. I've left the country almost 13 years ago. And I left very mad with Romania. I'm never coming back, this is what I thought. And I told Alin Ușeriu, man, you might change my idea that I have been struggling with for so long, my idea about Romania. Somehow, knowing that in a country like Spain, there is such a successful long-distance trail, I came to the conclusion that our country is much more beautiful and... we think it is worthy of such a trail, to highlight its beauties and even more so the experiences you can live on such a trail. And moreover, do you know what this does? Actually this is why I use them, if it starts rainning, at least this part of the boot won't get wet, you know? Well, safe travels to us then. Holy moly, what a great weather for walking. Come on, we've only had great weather so far. I've also thought about women empwering and feminism a little, because when we usally think of people in the outdoors, they are generally fit men, with a lot of muscles. And we wanted this trail to be different, so that anyone could walk on it... we somehow chose us to be the first ones to document the trail, women of all ages. We are taking this experience and living it fully, we document it and we put it in the guide. Do you need sunscreen? You're glad it stopped rainning when you're already soaking wet. You're glad you've entered a forest and can take shelter. You're happy to find food - things that, we actually have on hand at home. We can change our clothes, we can eat, we can heat food. You can be glad that you end up in a village where there's no electricity, no... network, no internet access and yet you can sleep peacefully. And that joy I think is worth experiencing for everyone. Mmmm, this one was very ripe. These are a little more red that the ones form down there. Aha. But it's still not their season. For the hiker's guide we are planning going on the portion that is currently being marked. Our role, first and foremost, is to see the ground. We write down all the springs we pass by and we're looking for shops where you can find everything, in case you run out of, I don't know, water or food. Look how pretty these are. A great rain. Look at this, Kitty. It's for babies. Here is for the money. Hey, you know what? I'll buy a bottle of booze. We walk and look for the best, most affordable accommodation everywhere, sometimes we even recommend family homes where one could spend a night. We've included how you can get from one point to another, from one city to another, by plane, by train, train travel, so... there are absolutely all the advice you need even as an absolute beginner. If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends... I don't know, at some point you get excited, one minute you're tired, at some point your feet hurt, at some point you get annoyed with the people you're with, at some point you love them, at some point you don't even realize that the places you're in are actually real. I mean you can't believe they existed and you didn't know about them. You meet some people who leave you curious, leave you... amazed that they exist, that they do the things they do, that there are still people making good cheese, that there are still people who give out liquor without asking for money in exchange. And an eagle. Or a crow. On the 13th of March 1978, I came to work here as a forester. And I worked here for 40 years, from 1978 until 2018 when I retired. Here in Prisăcina, there are nine other families. Eight families actually, but an old man died on the 1st of January. From here to Herculane, if you walk to there, which I used to do very often, it will take you about five hours. If you want to be in Herculane by 8 am, you'll have to leave here at 3 am. Wow! Omg it's so pretty here. Hello! Thank you! This is very beautiful. This is where I started working, this is where I found my wife. Here in the village? Here in the village... But how did you find her? Well, I saw her walking through the forest, it's when I met the girl. Hey, do you want to be my girl? I said. Yes. Is this right Mrs. Ioana? Just like that. Yes, parents, poor parents, love your parents! Love your brothers! Just like God loves us all, if we love each other. Love is great. God bless you for having stepped into our home. Thank you for having us. The host should always taste whatever it is the guests are having. Before. The host had a taste. See how time passes. Yes, time flies. Especially when you are having great conversations. Yes, well obviously. And when you're working. That's it. Thank you very much. You are very welcome! Cheers. Stop by again when you get a chance. Will do. Thank you. Travel safe. Look, now I'm trying to choose which stone to to mount here, and which one to put in the village. Mr. Mayor, God bless you, please send a reminder on that group, we don't have any stones installed in the entire county, God help us all, I really don't know... I want to install the first kilometer stone today... Aren't you installing all ot them? Maybe I'll be able to install all of them... All of them. Yes, maybe I'll finish installing all of them. Please send me some photos... I want to start the work today ... on our group, please. ... the latest tomorrow, I think by tomorrow, I'll have all the stones installed. Ok, Mr, Alin, Good bless, Take care, See you soon. Take care. So, we have exactly let's say five days until the launch, i.e. we are a week before the launch, a week and a day, but it is... as actual working days, very little. And basically as of this morning, there is not a single kilometer stone installed in Caras-Severin county, which is the longest county... in the whole of the Via Transilvanica trail throughout the country. The guy with the tractor over here said he can't load them... that the trailer will break down. But how many are there? Ten. That's 1,500 kilos. What kind of tractor is this? Our car could carry 1,000 kilos. Yes. Our Mercedes X could carry 1,000 kilos. What kind of tractor is that? This one didn't want to, this one didn't want to. Beacause reasons: he said he can't, there's no way and stuff... That's the Romanian way. Jesus. He said no. When we frist brought the load he said that there will be no problem, that he'll manage it. Working on Via Transilvanica the way we do has shown us a different dimension of our country, one I haven't known before. This doesn't mean that there are no problems or that there aren't people who are still not doing their job. This doesn't mean we have a perfect administration. But, what I mean to say is that... is that... somehow in our Terra Mirabilis everything is balanced out. Well, here in Banat, this is what it's all about. And it's so obvious. I met... some of the best people possible to make up for all the jerks I came across. So it is... to see people who will give you everything so that this project can actually happen and so you are close to tears when you see one jerk who just doesn't realize what great of an opportunity this project is. I said it's better to go up from the Scărițe, it's better to go down afterwards, instead of going uphill from back there, on the otherside. Right. So should we all climb from the Scărițe? Kinda like that. Yes? Well, you can all climb from the Scărițe and then you split up to places where the stones will be unloaded. Does Alin know about this? Well, I've just settled on this with him, ten minutes ago. Yesterday it was the other way round. Where will he be? Over here, to the top. At Cornereva? And there will be someone there?? Us. Who else? I said it's very windy and cloudy here. I'm not interested in cloudy. I'm interested in visibility. So we are not in the clouds. There is visbility. We're not in the clouds, we're not in the clouds and there is plenty of visibility. Ok then. Can you see the hills and the mountains around? It doesn't matter if it's a little windy. All I care about is visibility. So go figure yourselves... Good day. Good day to you too. Hop, hop. Hop. Wait a second. Now! Once again. Come on, ready, steady, go! Hop. Like this. Drop it, these are... Good. The bags next to them and we're done. But aren't you supposed to tie them up somehow? I'll tie it up now and then I'll fly with it hanging down. Hanging down, I get it. Don't turn it over this side, make sure you place it underneath, do you understand? Yes, yes, everything goes underneath, copy that. It's made entirely from plums. Cheers. God bless us all. So after all, is he going to leave them one by one, or will he unload them all in one place. Nobody knows, yes? Everyone knows. Nothing gets lost, everthing transforms. What? Nothing gets lost, everthing transforms. I think it's tied up. Is it? Look at it go. Tășuleasa Social and Mountain rescue in Caraș-Severin is a reliable partnership that takes this project to new heights. New heights of professionalism, of... uhmm... of professionalism and of... new heights, in general. Ok so we have designed this hole to be on the right hand side in the direction of Mehedinți. But it might not be the right way, which might mean we'll have to fill the hole and dig up another one. And that would pretty much suck. But we'll do it if we have to, I mean it's only 10 am. Yes, Paul. We are already digging up the holes for the milestones, so I wanted to ask you if we should do them on the right side, or on the left side, where do you think it would be best? What? The milestone? Yes, the stone. My dear boy, wherever you find fit, wherever there is room for it. Ok, ok. Fine. I think on the upper side it would be best. Ok. Logbook. I came to the unfortunate conclusion that we've been working for nothing for the past fucking 20 minutes. Sorry, fuck. Is this going to be censored? No. Uhm, yes. We'll censor this, alright, but yes I worked for nothing. We're plugging this hole. It's a great one though. Well, good. Let's add some more force. Come one, two more horse power. We need to turn around. Yes, yes. We're going over there, behind that thing made of stone. No. Hey, watch out, give a little to Radu, he's grabbing from down there. Like this. Ready, steady, go. Oopsie daisy, that's too much. That's enough. That's good. Give a hand over here. Wait. Wait, don't put stones in yet. Wait a little. Look there, take out something, it's not in a good position. And now... Wait. Marius! No problem, if you can reach my ear, you rock. Too much. Hop. That's enough. That's enough. Now. My name is Cili, but most of my friends call me Cili. I am the volunteer in charge with medical equipment and all medical procedures here at Tășuleasa Social. Right now, everything is going according to plan, everyone has everything... all their hands, feet, all them *mumbles*... Uhm, they have what? What? What do they have? All their hands, all their feet and all of their FINGERS. Ans yes, we hope it will stay this way, I mean... one extra hand, or one hand less, it's insignificant in the big picture, but it would probably suck for the person in question. We are waiting for you on Via Transilvanica. Your recommendation, Paul? What's that? For a pub. My recomendation? You said you know a place in Harghita, dind't you? In Harghita, you mean in Herculane. Ah, right. Omg, that's great. It's not really a pub, it's a restaurant. Anything, so as long as the beer is cold. Holy Moly... Aren't you done with it yet? Well? Delivery in the mountains. Hi, Tibi! That's it. Hey Tibi, how was it in the helicopter? Here are the sauces. Wow, beer! Explain to him, we are beer champions. I'll be damned, good thing it's over and done with. To be continued. Cili, would you play something? Wait a second, I have a mix. Is it working? Sounds great, it's ok. The most beautiful road. The most beautiful trail. Drop that a little lower. That's good. Jump. This is great. Wait. Good day sir. Obviously, when we started this route we had no guarantee that anyone would actually walk it. It was probably Alin's extremely good intuition, that people needed it and were looking and waiting for something like it. We meet people who really needed it. I've heard the expression: "you changed my life" or "you saved me". Of course, we... People feel the need to thank someone, or to... but it's not about that... that's not the case. I mean it's about the trail itself, about... When someone says "you saved me", I don't think they're talking about Tășuleasa, I think they mean everything about... this project... everything related to the people along the way, the places, everything, absolutely everything. Woof, woof, woof, I'm in danger. How much for the nuts? Twenty for 500 grams. Well in this case, I'll buy them. It's ok. Take them. Should I leave the money here? Ok. We have honey, if you'd like. I'm good with the nuts for now. I'll leave it here, ok? Thank you. So my idea, after I finish walking the trail and I get to take everything in entirely, is that I will return next year around this time, june, july, august, with some groups of Spanish people. And I'll help them have an interesting experience. It's a great alternative to Camino de Santiago, Camino de Via Transilvanica. Well, the right way of saying it is simply Via Transilvanica. For Spaniards it would be an interesting experience. I personally don't think it changed me, it just changed my perspective on Romania. A bit. And it basically gave me an impulse to... do something with it. To... make this trail known and come up with people who will know how to apreciate it. Look! Hello, it's me, Vulpeș, the route Dobraia-Ineleț is finalized. Is Caraș county done? It's done. As far as I know, from recent news. Târnova – done. Lăpușnicel – done. So Via Transilvanica, God be by its side, it can now travel through the story that has already been written by many, many people who have walked its paths. And... I wish we reach the end of it, I wish we'll be the ones to finalize this project, but I almost wish that as many Romanians as possible will own up to this project, because it's not fair to have this project only on the shoulders of those of us from Tășuleasa Social. And there is no way for us to coordinate, take care of it, there is no way to ignore those who provide hospitability for this project, the so called people of the trail. There is no way to have a project in Romania we could take pride in and not make use of it ourselves. So only then will we have a project that can be an example, even to us, when each of us somehow owns up to it. We can have revelations anytime, anywhere, this if we are willing to open our hearts and our minds, I think one of the most important revelations, if this is what these are called, of mine is the fact that... we have an extraordinarily beautiful country. And there's no way you can get to know it and know more about it, and there's no way to love it unless you change your perspective. This change of perspective happens when you start walking.
