clearances are often a great opportunity for Drew what people don't want they're often prepared to sell at a low price today he and T are heading north to a promising call out at a Georgian mansion in Scotland we're off to meet a guy called David who sent me an email a few weeks ago he's got this I have to say spectacular pad up here that you've been restoring and he bought the house and it had all the furniture in it and he doesn't want the furniture is it not a restaurant coming all this way well that's the job we're gambling with what 400 quids with the diesel yeah probably there and back hotels and food to whether or not we're going to make any money if you don't take a chance you're never going to get anywhere foreign surrounding the river Eden in five was historically waterlogged leading to a local Town being named ladybug today it's called lady bank and a short drive outside the town is the classical Sandstone kenoki mansion house the Georgian addition to the original House was built in the late 1700s it was remodeled in Victorian times and is now being renovated by its latest owner David kenwright we first came here in December 2014. we thought it's far too big for us it's not the sort of place that we want but when we came inside we just fell in love with it that was that David bought the remaining contents of the house as a job lot but decided that most of the furniture wasn't to his taste there are some things here um that I think could be of interest to people um they're not personally of interest to me at the same time I don't want to sell things for nothing if they're if there were something but uh hopefully that's not going to be the case there you go look at that nice nice and they've laid on daffodils yeah they could fill it up hello David Hello nice to meet you pleased to meet you well that's pretty spectacular can we have a look inside right excellent first right so pretty uh staggering restoration you've got in your hands here yeah it is wow that all real I believe we're here to see some what was left yeah yes some of the furniture that was left they just did they just walk out and leave everything in here um well basically I bought this um as part of a lump sum thing for there was Garden machinery and things like that plus Furniture so we just agreed a lump sum for what they didn't want when people want to clear and we get that thing saying we're doing some building work and we just want to get rid of a load of furniture getting that van as fast as possible because when they want rid of something the price comes right down well let's have a look let's get started so what's to go is it everything in here a lot most of it yes no uh no I mean they're very much of their time yeah but um that time isn't me what else have we want some puppets Helen puppets no that's really nice uh needs loads of work but it's a good quality the whole thing's Oak is it to go as well um I'm not sure about that actually we're in one of the rooms and clearly this is where they've dumped all the furniture well some of it um there is the most bizarre collection of furniture you've ever seen in here bits of this that and the other what about that that could go go it's nice like that one of the nice little shaped ones isn't it sort of more blokey that one this early English desk lamp has a cast iron base and a full brush shade it dates from the 1920s and the adjustable sliding hinge is a forerunner of the popular angle voice lamp rewired it could fetch around 250 pounds um what would that one be 80 pounds yeah I think that's good the fair price excellent we're five minutes into looking into the house and I bought a great piece paid 80 pounds for it slightly over what I should have done but I've got some money moving straight away honey is Keen to sell it's a fantastic piece that'll sell for great profit for me and the dining table bog standard twin pedestal um foreign [Music] this beautifully crafted hand knotted Woolen rug dates from the early 20th century it was made in the Middle East typically turkey or Iran these rugs have been popular in Europe since the Renaissance if this one cleans up well it could sell for around 300 pounds what would you want for it to be honest didn't make an offer I mean I wouldn't not a great deal what was I paying for all those those ones up there how many how much would the average UH 60 70 quid is what we were paying for them that's where I'm at with that's just the Fate it's a shame because it'd be a couple hundred pounds or more with without the fading yeah to know so I'd be happy to let it go for that yeah what did we agree 360 or 70. 70. stupid question yeah I'm getting worse at this yeah yeah I paid a bit too much for the carpet but I'm not haggling over a tenor when it's a new business relationship there's something that everybody wants so I'm buying as many as I can go look at those yes would you like those no everybody says that yeah that's pretty do you have any more of those it's just the one uh just the ones well it's actually not bad order it's not bad is it this stuff can be it doesn't go for huge prices the Americans like it this chair is made of wicker a catch-all term referring to furniture made of woven plants such as Reeds and Willow this is rata which is split cane and dates from the 1920s in such good condition this could fetch around 300 pounds I've had lots and lots of luck selling these they look really good in this corner of a room sunlight on them lovely what would you want for it 50 60 pounds I was going to say 75 for a meter at 60 case yeah the way I'm pricing things is paying off we've just done a third deal and it's keeping the door open and I don't know if David might come up with something else now now David is taking him to an outbuilding to see a mystery object this is my surprise for the day is this is your surprise for the day yes you're not allowed to open it till the Music Stops and if we unwrap it you've got to buy it [Music] you know what it is the collector's cabinet it's a what collector's cabinet no Museum cabinet no it's not I'm intrigued now yeah [Music] top Salvage expert Drew Pritchard is at 18th century kanoki mansion house in five what would that one be 80 pounds he's brought well in the house but now David's taking him outside where a mysterious object is under wraps I'm intrigued now glazed bookcase nope cuddly toy of course yeah I've bought a few of these yeah just a few well I didn't expect to see that here today to be honest now what on Earth is that doing here that was uh in this middle room and he was used as a violin government is it where Sesame Street keep their letters yes you can see why I keep them around yeah it keeps me amused for hours right out unusual shape unusual shape the height and everything yeah back's good it's been remarkably goodness yeah they're usually really battered this original and complete Hulk haberdash's cabinet dates from the 1920s it's 48 glazed doors would have been used to display small items like buttons laces and Zips it could fetch around 1 350 pounds the condition and the qualities Fab so it's got two really big things going for it but just need to buy it at the right price what would you like for it what would you like to pay for as little as possible as much as possible we need to make sure we're in the middle though yeah we do 500 quid did you 600 no 550 no 525 no 500 quid thank you you've got a deal thank you 500 for that that's all of the money that is worth right now I have to be able to be prepared to sell that for 8.50 people like to have tall thin ones that go to the top of the ceiling this one being low it's a little odd I can't tell you how much a simple thing like the height of it can just throw a piece of furniture into the point where you can't get rid of it with another good deal under Drew's belt they move on what have we got kitchen table and some benches yeah it's not bad looking actually is it no it's quite a bad looking no drawers no oh aren't they okay I thought they were on this no this dirty kitchen table is made of Nordic Pine in a ground house like kanoki it would have been in daily use by scullery Maids or kitchen staff as they prepared food for the Gentry upstairs today vintage rustic tables are very popular and this could be worth around 600 pounds what would you want for it 100 pounds so you've let me have a bit of a bargain with the table to be honest with you okay so yeah but I think I probably I've made it well I was feeling a little bit guilty we've had a bit of results David says we've got the old farmhouse table here I said what do you want for it 100 quid boom thank God for that we've uh we're making some money back again David has even more outbuildings for Drew to search through so we're going into the final room and I'm hoping now there is a piece of wonderful painted Georgian Furniture in there or something absolutely mind-bendingly good that's going to make the day ah I see oh dear me look at the state of that yeah that's a shame that's a would have been a nice piece of furniture at one time that's just riddled with oil and petrol there is the dirtiest chest of drawers you've ever seen in your life it's got a mahogany top on it which has got more oil in it than the North Sea it is absolutely stinking this 12 drawer cabinet is the lower section of a housekeeper's cupboard it's made from Pine with turned fruit wood handles its 19th century and contemporary to the Victorian remodeling of the house it's a big job but once restored could be worth around 800 pounds is it really really disgusting ridiculously cheap it could be ideally I'd want to be 200 pound or less I'd take 200 pounds for it make an interesting restoration but do I really want to get into it right and uh do an oil change of the van on the top at the same time 400 quids worth of oil in the top oh well that's a bargain and then if that comes out all right which it will it saved the whole day it's a great piece [Music] it's been a long trip up to Scotland we've bought really well actually mostly we bought stuff at the right price and left loads of profit in it for us once we've done the work the costs and the spending doesn't finish yet on this lot [Music] I think I got more than I should have done for some things and maybe not quite as much for one or two but on the whole I'm more than satisfied the big fine table I think I let go a little too cheaply out of all the stuff we bought today the thing I got at the absolute best price was to be honest with you three things were really well priced there the Rattan chair the table and the big Banker drawers our money is made in the bike we did well back in Wales it's show time for the expectant team success absolutely fabulous place this is quite early look quite a nice thing 70 quid send it off to the police get it cleaned yep look at this oh that's a sweetheart yes 80 pounds I paid for that one it's absolutely beautiful a really cute little desk lamp feminine not too industrial that won't be hanging around long at all this was a bit of a bargain I sold me that for 100 quid oh nice chap it's had a hardwood top I think replacement sometime in the past and some repairs we may scrape the top back but I'll have to see once it's cleaned and waxed it's been covered in something paint it's an original paint lift it over it's got the original top under it that's the underside ten times better yes that turns a different story once we turned it upside down the original top is underneath and it's beautifully worn and the color is fantastic and we also realized it's too plank that increases the price of the table as well um yeah little gem and you didn't even know on the back there there's this cabinet it's the bottom section of a housekeeper's cupboard that's been cut in half and it is caked in oil I mean caked in oil but when you see the front of it you'll know why I bought it huh how nice is that take the top off it's a belter fantastic the oil Laden estate drawers are wow ones are stored they are going to look amazing the oily drawers need restoration that falls to Alex the French polisher white spirit and why a wool will do the job the oil's coming off quite nicely we've got all the original age left in this top so I think that's that'll be perfect [Music] with the cleaning gun carpentry takes over the rotten wood gets cut off and the drawers are made to stand level then the repairs it's nice and solid so the last stage is just a good wax get it nice and shiny and ready to go [Music] that's perfect it's a real sort of great looking chest now on a transformation all that's left is for Drew to inspect the finished article totally different is that the original thank you thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] um what would that one be 80 pounds yeah on that one we're five minutes into looking into the house and I bought a great piece paid 80 pounds for it slightly over what I should have done but I've got some money moving straight away honey is Keen to sell it's a fantastic piece that'll sell for great profit for me and the dining table bog standard twin pedestal um is this to go or stay this can go oh it's quite bad actually yeah it is this beautifully crafted hand knotted Woolen rug dates from the early 20th century it was made in the Middle East typically turkey or Iran these rocks have been popular in Europe since the Renaissance if this one cleans up well it could sell for around 300 pounds what would you want for it to be honest they make an offer I mean I wouldn't not a great deal what was I paying for all those response up there how many how much was the average UH 60 70 credit is what we were paying for them that's where I'm at with that's just the fake it's a shame because it'd be a couple hundred pounds or more with without the fading yeah to know so I'd be happy to let it go for that yeah thank you what did we agree 360 or 70. 70. what a stupid question I'm getting worse at this yeah yeah I paid a bit too much for the carpet but I'm not haggling over a tenner when it's a new business relationship there's something that everybody wants so I'm buying as many as I can go look at those yes would you like those no everybody says that yeah that's pretty do you have any more of those it's just the one uh just the ones well it's actually not bad order it's not bad is it
