Nuzlocking Pokemon Black The Honorable Way...

so a few weeks ago i uploaded a pokemon challenge video and i played pokemon emerald for it in that video i mentioned how i didn't really understand why the vast majority of challenge videos for pokemon were done on emerald version or some other game boy advanced pokemon game but people who commented on the video let me know that apparently it is a pain to level up pokemon in black and white making it one of the hardest games to do any sort of challenge in i've been wanting to play through pokemon black and white again since it's been a little while since i've played these games and they're one of my favorites in the whole series pokemon black was even one of the first games i ever did a nuzlocke run in and since it's also been a while since i've done a nuzlocke i thought it would be fun to do a nuzlocke challenge on pokemon black and see if it really is one of the hardest games to do a challenge in now if you don't know what a nuzlocke is basically when a pokemon faints is considered dead and can't be used anymore for the rest of the playthrough you can also only catch the first pokemon you encounter in each area meaning your options are eliminated for what you have on your team there's many other nuzlocke variations out there and other challenges with some other rules but those are the base rules that we will go by so can i actually complete a pokemon black nuzlocke on my own i am the greatest pokemon player in the world don't fact check that or watch the emerald video where i lost like every single gym leader so i think i have a decent chance of doing this starting off i pick my character and name myself c then meet bianca and sharon here we have to pick our starter and i have to say the generation 5 starters as a whole are some of my favorite starters in the entire pokemon series first we have tepig the fire type which eventually turns into embore a strong fire and fighting type pokemon and it also happens that mbor is my favorite shiny pokemon this would be a good choice if i want a good offensive pokemon then there's snivy the starter pokemon i first picked when i first played through black and white for the first time so there's some nostalgia with snivy for me i don't think it's as good as emboar exactly but it's still a pretty decent pokemon all around then there's the watertight pokemon oshawa as the third starter option which is arguably the worst of the three to pick i would say it is the worst of the three personally since water types are abundant in most pokemon games and when it evolves to samurai it isn't stronger than embler the choice of my starter here was actually pretty simple since i'm doing a nuzlocke run and want the strongest possible option i picked ashwad of course now i know what you might be thinking you just said that oshawott is the worst of the three so why would you pick it for a challenge run well the answer is quite simple really oshawa may be the weakest of the three but that doesn't mean that we can't use it to its full potential choosing oshawa will instill a false sense of confidence into our foes making them think that we are weak when we definitely are not to quote sun tzu the ancient chinese general and author of the art of war all warfare is based on deception we can take advantage of these deception tactics with our oshawa and just look at it man it's so cute i end up hammering away at a few rival battles and eventually get the opportunity to nickname my oshawa so i name it narwhali i always give that nicking to oshua and i just think it's pretty cool next i head into the grass and get the chance to catch our first pokemon for this nuzlocke i ended up finding a lillipup and catching it as my first encounter so i named it amaterasu at this point i decided to train up my teammate a little bit and i see what people meant when they said that grinding is a pain in this game you barely get any experience if you're a higher level than some of the other pokemon you're training on making it take so long no matter how hard you hammer away now in akumula town we meet up with the local cult team plasma then get into the next rat where i can catch another pokemon so i caught a patch rat and named it paul there's also a few trainer fights which i dispatch rather quickly and get some better experience from than a surprise rival from bianca which i didn't expect her leading with only a level 6 lillipup against my oshawa that's barely damaged might seem like this isn't a problem at all but that's where you're wrong you see when an important trainer like a rival sends out a pokemon that you also have you must also send out that same pokemon and have what i like to call an honor battle i don't make the rules well technically i do i guess but we have to show bianca that my lullapup has more honor than hers to quote the great sun tzu again a delicacy of honor which is sensitive to shame which i'm not exactly sure what it means but has the word honor in it and i like to do honor battles in my playthrough so i guess it just fits amaterasu the lilla pup ends up winning the honor battle of course then narwhali takes care of her attic since i can easily type trumpet with my watertight moves once i make it into the next town we have to find the gym leader who we are told is in the trainer school i headed and instead we have another rival fight this happens against charon i use narwhal against his snivy and after a close call with him scaring me with some snap boosting moves i knock it out with only two hp to spare then use paul to finish off his last pokemon and then cheren gives us some berries and you guys know i love berries then i go back into the gym where we meet with the gym leader silent who tells us that we should train in the dream yard i go over there meet this trainer who gives us an infernape just like the one we had in the dominant pearl as an attended video now this infernape looks a little bit weird to me in black and white for some reason but i still give it the nickname of sun wukong which goes along very well the theme of this video as well i decided to train up albatross and the lillapup and our new sun wukong a little bit before the gym since narwhali won't do well against the grass-type gym after i'm done training and laying waste to all of the junior trainers in the first gym i fight silent i leave with amaterasu since i know silent also has his own lullaby for yet another rival battle for amaterasu amaterasu is at a level disadvantage here but silence little pup has a workup which boosts its attack and is quite terrifying i managed to get silen's little pup pretty low then he goes for a potion to heal it up and after that he does over half damage with bite after all the stat boosts i try to heal and stall out a bit but then silent goes for another bite gets a critical hit and knocks out amaterasu giving us the very first death of our nuzlocke it is quite unfortunate that it happened from a crit at the first gym nonetheless and it arguably could have been avoided if i remembered to give amuttarasu one of the berries that sharon gave to us but amaterasu will live on the afterlife and give us help in the rest of our journey i eventually avenge our fallen comrade with narwhali then go back into sunwukom to type trump his pan sage i'm only a level below his pan sage but the only fire move i have is incinerate which does very little damage it only has 30 base power looks like it's about a 4 shot ko and silent keeps going for work up which still scares me luckily the vine whoops he's going for doesn't really do that much damage and i'm able to keep hammering away with incinerate getting the victory this first badge is dedicated to you amitarasu after getting the first gym badge i'm not really sure what's up next to tell you the truth i really don't know fifth generation all that well and the last time i played through a fifth generation game was two years ago i know the first four generations of pokemon like the back of my hand then with each generation after that i know them less and less as they go on since as a kid i would constantly play through the first four generations of pokemon over and over and over again i do make it past the daycare not to the next rat where i am ambushed by chairman sun wukong takes out his lead snivy pretty easily then i use narwali on his furloin to zig when he zags for the victory i then headed the nearby grass and catch a piddov which i named something that i completely forgot i left it in the daycare right after that and as i am recording this part of the video right now i am so much farther ahead in the game that i don't want to backtrack just to figure out what its nickname was so for now the pitov is just unnamed i guess my second encounter after catching the pid dove was a blitzel though now i can't catch this because of the nuzlocke rules only allowing me to catch one pokemon per new area but this would have been a great pokemon to have on my team since electric types aren't that common this early on in unova and i do have a little bit of an electric weakness on my team as well i then head into the nearby cave where i defeat some team plasma grunts with the help of charan and then catch a swoo bat adding to our electric weakness which i named dante i can now head south into the next town but on the way we have to fight some trainers like this guy schoolkid al now i'm sure when you first clicked on this video and saw that i was doing a nuzlocke you probably thought of a few trainers you would expect to give me some trouble and knock out my pokemon like maybe one of the later on gym leaders or perhaps even one of the end fights or team plasma fights but no school kid al out of all trainers crits my son wukong with his blitzel and knocks it out this upset me quite a lot since i actually spent some time grinding up sun wukong so he should have been a decent enough level for this fight and now my team is even more weak to electric types after this blitzel is now my sworn enemy after dodging us for the encounter and then doing this i am then forced to grind up my team a little bit more meet sharon who gives us some more berries turn must know me so well giving me all these berries and then get ready to head into the second gym fight against lenora as i head into the gym i get ambushed by n and i start to realize that this game really likes to ambush you with battles luckily my newly evolved duat is a higher level so i get through him rather quickly then by the time i finish the gym puzzle narwhali is already level 20. i get through lenora pretty quickly because she only has two pokemon giving us the second gym badge from here after the gem fight we have to do something with team plasma again in pinwheel forest or something and i catch a temp along the way and name it water because i could not think of a single nickname for this thing this again doesn't help with our electric weakness in the short term however when it evolves it does gain the ground typing which would help us a lot it's important that our team follow some sort of strategy of having different types that can cover each other nicely which hopefully we can get more of in the future even though we have little control over what our team is due to the nuzlocke rules and we have to make sure we have a tactical approach to each fight we get into as sun tzu once said strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat meaning we need strategy and tactics combined in order to win this game i also ran into this audino in the pinwheel forest since i noticed some shaky grass and it's now our second highest level pokemon on the team and i named it bug snack since i couldn't think of a name for it as well so i let twitter decide what name should be and the first person responded with bug snacks now i have to chase around team plasma for a little bit go through the pinwheel force and in the process level up my team a little bit this brings us into castelia city the biggest city in the unova region i try and head into the gym but my rival at the door instead who says he just beat the gym leader and then right after him the gym leader berg comes through saying that we have to do something with team plasma again i eventually find team plasma and their grandpas or something come out of nowhere and now we can finally challenge berg the bug type gym leader i decide to head north to route 4 before this though to see if i can train there a little bit and get a new encounter and i get lucky and find a darumaka which i caught and named sun goku since the next gym is the bug gym sun goku and dante the swoobat should be pretty good here i head in end up using sun goku for most of the battle then switch to narwhali on berg's dwebble since it's a part rock type pokemon that can type trump my fire type son goku this gym fight goes a lot better than the last chimp fight against lenora with the only time i even took damage being from berg's levany hitting my daramaka with a leaf blade as i head out of the gym bianca calls us and tells us to meet her on round four which is also the route we have to go to that leads to the next town she wants to have a battle so i dispatch her very quickly since my team is starting to get pretty strong and diverse now and then i am ambushed by a charing rival fight two seconds later which was a bit harder than the bianca fight but i did manage to get out of both pretty easily even though i did have to risk an honor battle in the cheron fight this leads us into nimbasa's city where we meet professor juniper again and some team plasma grunts for about the third time in 20 minutes now i never really realized this in black and white but there's a lot more instances where you encounter team plasma in this game than i remember i wouldn't say it's a bad thing per se just something that i forgot about i decided to head to the route west of nimbasa and catch a lie pride which i named catboy which we might have to use for the upcoming electric type gym i mean n at the ferris wheel then where we have to fight him and this sigliff starts to give me trouble it went for tailwind to make it faster then does over half damage to sun goku so i'm forced to switch i have nothing that i can risk taking two shots from this thing so i have to sacrifice bug snacks in order to preserve my other pokemon to take out sigliff after the tailwind teeters away it is a bit unfortunate but i probably wasn't going to use bug snacks anyway i then head into the gym to see what the junior trainers are like and this one junior trainer with two emolgas gives me a little bit of trouble because of how annoying they are going for double team and having the static ability the gym leader elisa also has two emojis on her team in this game and this is a common gym for people to struggle with in a nuzlocke i decided to head out and train a bit more and i called a sawado on the route to the right of nambasa which i named winnie this would be good for a pure electric only gym but since elisa has two immogals which are part flying type and probably have flying tight moves it's just going to chill in the back of the party for now and possibly be used later i then realized that i also have this temple in my pc still that i nicknamed water which evolves at level 25 and gains the ground typing which will help a lot for the gym it's only level 13 right now so i decided to go back towards gestalia city to level it up but unfortunately i get knocked down to one hp from training against the staromaka then knocked out by the sandstorm that was in the area this means that we have to try another approach for this gym which is starting to make me nervous because i feel like we're definitely going to struggle with this i decided to level up my team a bit more than just head into the gym since i'm a little over leveled at this point my darumaka is level 32 and i figure could just one shot all through belize's pokemon since they're not very strong defensively and thankfully i do that and don't get static at all which could have been a huge problem for us this gym was much easier than i anticipated then shortly after getting the 4th gym badge we have another rival battle against charon he ends up leading with a lie print of his own so i have to go into my catboy the library for this honor battle and end up knocking it out the rest of the fight goes in my favor then after that we meet elisa who somehow got in front of me even though i came out of her gym and directly over here and she didn't follow me so i don't know how she got over there we are then introduced to alder the champion of the nova region and then the bridge is lowered so we can head into driftvale city we have a long bridge to cross here and i always like these scenic areas in unova like this bridge once i make it over there i meet the gym leader clay who tells us we have to clear out team plasma from the town on my way to find team plies but i also run into vanilla which i caught and named scoops at this point my team is pretty much just narwhali and sun goku in every single fight with the occasional appearance of catboy so adding a new type does help us i then head into the cold storage find team plasma hiding one of the freezers and defeat them which allows us to challenge the fifth gym clay is a ground type gym leader so i'm going to have to rely on narwhali a lot here clay doesn't even put up a fight when i head into his gym however and i end up beating him without even taking any damage with narwhali the greatest victory is that which requires no battle as sun tzu once said and this battle was anything but a battle because it was very one-sided i'm still being very cautious with all these battles though since although we are doing pretty well in this run and made it much farther than i actually thought we would we could all have this crumble down on us at any moment as i exit the gym and into the next route bianca meets us for another rival fight but i dispatch her so quickly there isn't really much else to talk about there on that route i end up catching a fungus though and i named it peach this might make its way onto our team over the sawada which i did level up slightly but both of them won't be very good against the next generator skylift when she has flying type pokemon this then leads us into the charge stone cave where i encounter a joltik which i caught and named peter which is another good option to join our team since we don't have an electrotype yet then i run into n and do some other team plasma cold stuff that i really don't care about and while i'm in the cave sun goku and narwali both end up evolving to their final forms this leads us to mistleton city i can already see all of the comments mad at me for saying every single unova town wrong which is also the home of the 6th gym before we can challenge skyla we have to head into the celestial tower and ring the bell at the top on the way there i encounter zip strika which i caught and named nigel this will be great for skyla's gym since it can type trump or flying type pokemon so i start using it a little bit to level it up only to have it die from a scald from this random npc with a semi-poor to be fair it was raining and i wasn't fully paying attention so i probably should have switched but it gets even worse i send out catboy thinking a fake out and a pursuit will not get out and that i'll outspeed it but it just barely lives and knocks out my catboy as well i feel like so far i've lost more pokemon to random npc trainers rather than actual important trainers but once i make it to the tower everything goes smoothly and i caught this litwick which i named doom now i can head back into the gym phase plant into this wall and then finally fight skyla i don't have an electrotype anymore unfortunately but the duo of narwali and sun goku are just so strong giving us another easy gym victory now we can head into twist mountain where i run into a girder so i caught it and aimed at suplex remember how i said the first nuzlocke i ever did was on pokemon black back in about 2011 well i also remember losing that run in twist mountain so i go through it rather cautiously and clear out team plasma without waiting out this time thankfully i finally reach the other side of the mountain and get into ikera city home of bryce in the ice type gym leader i have son goku a strong fire type pokemon which also coincidentally learned hammer arm kind of recently so when i fight the bryson gym fight i hammer away using some hammer arms as well and get this victory very easily as well there's a lot of other random team plasma story stuff after this where nothing super interesting happens besides a few rival battles and random team plasma stuff so let's just fast forward to opel lucid city this is where we can get the eighth and final gym badge against the dragon type trainer drayden i'm still pretty much only using samurot and darmanitan at this point both of which are types that dragon pokemon resist but i say screw it and go in anyway since all of the gym battles have been a lot easier than i anticipated so far this shoe was definitely the closest gym fight so far as jardigon has a rough skin ability which hurt my pokemon every time i attack it with a physical move and he also has dragon tail which forced my pokemon to switch out i had to sacrifice peach in the process unfortunately which i wasn't going to really use anyway so outside of that one death we get through draden a lot easier than i thought giving us the 8th gym badge i head out of the gym and meet professor juniper and she hands us a master ball which i can hopefully use on something before facing the lead 4. i remember the first time i played through black and white i had some trouble with the elite 4 in this game so i don't think i'll be able to make it through just using 2 usable pokemon i still am very surprised that i haven't struggled against any of the gyms and i haven't really lost any major pokemon outside of catboy to a random semi-poor and to be honest i really expected myself to lose somewhere between the third and sixth gym before we can go through victory road we have to travel back to route 7 because of some sort of storm in the unoga region when i get there we eventually find a tornado and then it just flies away i don't remember this part of pokemon black and white at all but now we can finally go through and into the elite four i stuck up on repels and get through victory road rather quickly but on the way i caught a bulldoor and named it dwayne we can't evolve it unfortunately because it only evolves through trading but it's worth leveling up for using against the elite four members when i make it to the other side i look in my pc to see some other pokemon to fill out our team there aren't too many options but i decided to bring suplex the girder and this random volaby i forgot i caught and didn't even nickname because i didn't think i would use it to pair up with our newly caught dwayne as well as our existing narwali and sun goku i grind them all up but accidentally kill suplex while grinding meaning i only have 4 pokemon headed into the elite 4 as well as 2 other pokemon i'm using just for death fodder since i didn't want to grind up pokemon that were around level 20 all the way up to 50 since grinding in this game is quite tedious i get my team of boldore volaby samrot and darmanitan all to about 50 stock up on forward stores then head into the elite four i decided to battle caitlyn first and she's a psychic trainer and i thought that vulvy would be pretty good here since the dark type but i accidentally go through the wrong door into marshall's room who is a fighting type trainer i figure that bulby will still be good here since it is a flying type as well but marshall's pokemon have rock moves which do way too much damage to me that i'm forced to switch out i use narwali earlier than i would have liked to take out a few of his pokemon then when it gets low i switch into sun goku marshall then sends out a concalder so i use flare blitz on it thinking it would be an easy one-shot ko but kung kaldur barely survives and then knocks out sun goku with a stone edge this forces me to use narwali for the rest of the fight losing my second best pokemon this early on in the elite 4 run really stings but narwhali is still really strong and if i preserve its attacks a little bit it might be enough to carry us to the champion especially since i have a couple of eithers in my backpack this is still a problem for us no doubt but as sun tzu once said victory comes from finding opportunities in problems now for the second elite four battle i decide to fight caitlyn and i lead with volaby she leads with the reunion clips which i figure will be an easy battle for us since i have dark pulse but her uniqueness goes for thunder lands and one shots my volaby this is starting to look horrendous for us so i go into narwhali and just hope i can one shot it which i do i hammer away at her gothitel with surfs and slashes to preserve razor shell pp as much as i can since it's my strongest move and then when she sends out her musharra i go into dwayne thinking i can take a hit pretty easily musharna ends up knocking me into my sturdy with just one psychic so i'm forced to go into paul the patriot which i only brought as death fodder so i can heal narwhali and the funny thing is the rudiclist went for shadowball buying us another turn since paul was immune i eventually take the uniqlist out then go back into dwayne on sigliff thinking that if i use a full restore i can heal it and knock it out with a stone edge it goes for a psychic and hits me into my sturdy again so i just switched to dante to sacrifice it so i can go into narwali for their free switch since unfortunately dwayne can't take this thing out on its own i used a full restore on narwhali but then i get hit by a psychic which ends up being a critical hit and lowers my special defense nearly killing me at this point my only real chance is to go for a razor shell and hope it knocks out the sig lift but unfortunately it doesn't narwhali ends up falling here and all that's left now is dwayne on one hb i tried to stall out as much as i can using full restore since i bought so many thinking maybe eventually the sigoleth will struggle but eventually i run out and get knocked out by sigoleth even sigilyp's air slashes did so much damage to me that's how ridiculous it is i didn't know that boulder was this frail i honestly expected to be a bit more defensive but i guess i was wrong this nuzlocke met quite the unfortunate ending with the elite war giving us way more trouble than any other gym leader prior did i think my downfall was relying too much on mostly just two pokemon for the majority of the run making the rest of my team much weaker i also went into the elite four thing and i do well with pretty much just son goku and narwali doing most of the work but i was not victorious to quote sun tzu one last time in this video victorious warriors win first then go to war while defeated warriors go to war first then seek to win we definitely fell victim to this since i went in rather blind but hopefully next time we can win our next challenge now that
