hello everyone my memory card says that I only have 11 minutes and a half to get through filming this video so I got to get all my mistakes out quickly welcome to Numbers chapter six in five minutes the videos are five minutes but usually the the outtakes and all that are like 15 so I have to be fast okay who are our main characters in this chapter Numbers chapter six we have Moses he is the leader of the Israelites he is God's selected man to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt he's already done that now he's leading them to the Canaan land we have of course the Israelites or the Hebrews they're the large nation of people That Grew From the descendants of Abraham Isaac and Jacob then finally Aaron Aaron is the high priest of Israel he's Moses's brother and he is from the tribe of Levi by birth when do these events take place Numbers chapter 1 verse one the very first verse of the book tells us that all these things that we're discussing kind of kicked off the second month in the SEC year after the Israelites left Egypt so this would be approximately 1490 BC see and the entire Book of Numbers covers about 40 Years of Israelite history so we're just at the beginning we move on over to our where section the children of Israel at this point were camped in the wilderness of Sinai right around Mount Sinai which you can see the traditional location of Mount Sinai on the map there down at the bottom in the fork of the Red Sea Numbers Chapter 6 is interesting because it discusses the Nazarite vow verses 1 through 21 are all about this God gave instructions to certain Israelites who wanted to take a special vow a Nazarite vow the Nazarite vow could be taken by either a man or a woman the nazarites were to abstain from certain things they were too abstain from grapes all forms of grapes including fresh grapes dried grapes wine seeds of grapes skins of grapes and grape wine vinegar so nothing to do with grapes the nazarites were not allowed to cut their hair during the duration of their vowel an azerite was not allowed to go near a dead body and that included if one of their close relatives passed away like a father mother brother or sister if a person died very suddenly near a Nazarite like maybe they had a heart attack or something the Nazarite had to bring an offering to the Tabernacle and then had to restart their vow so that would be rather inconvenient if somebody passed away right next to you when the vowel was completed and the number of days fulfilled so this seems like it was a temporary thing that could be taken for a designated amount of time but when that time was over the Nazarite was to go to the Tabernacle with a few things a male lamb a u lamb a ram loaves of unleavened bread unleavened Wafers smeared with oil a grain offering and a drink offering and the priest would offer the animals as a sin offering a burnt offering a peace offering and then the the Loaves and the bread is grain offering and then also a drink offering would be offered the Nazarite was to shave his or her head when this happened and they were to burn the hair on the bronze altar afterwards the Ram's thigh a loaf of bread and a wafer of bread were offered to God as a peace offering and then the vow was complete it was finished and the individual was once again allowed to drink one whiner eat their favorite grapes the very last part of this chapter is actually quite a famous section verses 22 through 27 Aaron's blessing over Israel so God told Aaron to bless the people of Israel with the following words and this is the famous part quote the Lord bless you and keep you the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace you hear that repeated in a lot of religious literature in in songs and it's quite popular so that is Numbers chapter six we know all about nazarites now and we know where those famous words come from now finally for our application true love for God will lead you to do more than the bare minimum the Nazarite vow was voluntary people who took that vow wanted to separate themselves in a special way to worship and to serve and to know God and hopefully we as Christians don't live our lives stuck in the mindset that we're going to do just enough to please God right the bare minimum of what is required of us or bare minimum of maybe what our church requires of us we want to be like the people who voluntarily became nazarites people who are actively searching for ways to deepen their relationship with God and people who are voluntarily looking for ways to contribute more of themselves to him all right it looks like we made it I have two minutes left so I only made like four minutes of errors in rereading my notes that's actually pretty good for me okay I will see you guys Lord willing uh tomorrow we'll talk about Numbers Chapter 7.
