I just saw an opportunity and telling the story of this gay couple you know at that time marriage equality was um only legalized I think like eight states I thought okay wow this is an opportunity to bring this gay couple into so many people's homes and kind of a trojan horse style you know through comedy and through these great characters and great writing and for me you know being a kid growing up in Albuquerque New Mexico closeted and gay and I don't see myself represented in any of these stories I don't find anything aspirational about any of these characters and even the gay characters that that happened Beyond is like they're great and they're fun and they're entertaining but they don't feel aspirational for me so to play half of a same-sex couple on television adopting a baby in the very first episode and then going to the same trials and tribulations and and am I good enough like that every parent goes through gay and straight with like such Rich opportunity
