dillan kickoff coverage throughout the season Michael Young is deep for the Irish at the goal line enjoy this one from Lane Stadium tonight this town drives it all most of the crowd it's a pumped up kicker Sierra comes in booked Kirk gets his fourth career start third this year yeah I really enjoyed watching him play these last couple weeks a sophomore we talked about in the open he's kind of making the layups too easy throws he needs to do that tonight continue to be decisive and actor it's such an important part what we've seen from him and then using his feet to improvise against but Foster's defense did more than likely in this trend this atmosphere with his crowd they're going to turn up some pressure and come after him he's got to be able to keep some plays alive like he's done the last two weeks and make throws dexter williams suspended the post war games monster game and win over stanford is the bad the book looking to throw fires across the middle catch made miles Boykin well-covered must occur as the leader we talked about rueland stepping in for bars at left guard but leader in the middle there must refer the center who's playing a lot of big games a bigger receivers Playboy 83 Boykin 81 both have great sides remember Old Dominion with bigger receivers gave this Virginia Tech second there he fits a couple weeks ago second during that shorthand had divined Diablo burrs safety out with a hamstring injury tonight so you talked about how thin the Hokies were and right away a false start [Applause] [Music] [Applause] very good defender now with Diablo out and Diablo round it's a big hit for that secondary that's so young but right away we kind of see the impact of this crowd again you can do whatever you want with crowd noise during the week in South Bend two different deal when you come out here [Applause] on second and 14 books got it pitches at across the middle and the catch is made again by Boyken it's a first down but foster had never had a less experienced defense coming into the season the bell cow was number 8 Ricky Walker yeah Walker and Hewitt in the middle very physical Ashby the leader 23 the linebacker Reggie ploy to the back end 18 yards on that play now they picked it out wide and another attempt to get the ball to the perimeter quickly a mr. chase Claypool good gain on first down there's no shortage of athletes in the Virginia Tech secondary it's just lack of experience I mean if you lost most of your secondary from a year ago the linebackers all these guys are new so it's not necessarily about ability it's just where their eyes are they are they playing with great discipline that's a big thing that they have to do tonight we actually do book shows his elusive destiny cannot escape the grasp of Jarrett Hewitt there's a flag down on that he got the mass think he did I think he was a great position they're getting all four rulings blocked but I think his right hand got up into the face of book first one fan [Applause] environment can be a challenge for the defense as well they can get too hyped up make mistakes like this and there's gets the bottom of the face masked helps pull down book by the way if he doesn't do that you're looking at a third and long in Virginia Tech having a chance to get off the field instead the 15-yard penalty there across midfield and Notre Dame has a nice Drive going ball at the Tech 42 [Applause] first caring for Williams who exploded against the Cardinal he came off with fresh legs after being forced to sit out the first four games with the university suspension at 11 with Brian Kelly and chip long the offensive coordinator they come into this hospital environment first three plays within a fairly inexperienced quarterback and put the ball in his hands three straight passes until the run there by Dexter Williams Jaffar Armstrong is still out injured for a couple more games Tony Jones has been hampered with an ankle injury Williams may be the workhorse tonight he's got it again trying to get the adds cannot escape the clutches of Rashard Ashby the middle linebacker Bud Foster last week went in a little bit unorthodox for him he rushed three dropped eight a lot of the times and they got pressure on Daniel Jones at two here early in this game boy he's crowding the line of scrimmage with a lot of and he's leaving his young corners one-on-one on the perimeter against those tall receivers that could be dangerous first third down of the night he needs six Hokies rushed for Brooke has time and delivers a strike and it's a first down and that's the tight end a leaves a mac down to the 22 they flooded his own and did a good job of just fighting Mack does a good job of settling into the soft spot he's got three receivers in one area two defenders he's just making a quick read and staying in rhythm which again is so important for him tonight that's 16 in that third down play book again from the pocket again using the cushion this is Claypole who makes the catch another first down Caleb Farley drove them out where they are moving the ball around you notice it's three different receivers already with catches you've got backs and vault I mean this is such a different feel of a Notre Dame elephants in the rhythm - it is very very unique haven't seen a long time from notre-dame evolves all the playmakers really has energized things and output looking for the end zone flips his short Claypool is hit hard at the 5-yard line knocked down there by Dylan rivers when you attack the way they're attacking what it does is it takes this this defense that was coming out because of the crowd it gets them on their heels and now the pass rush is it as intense and it allows receivers like plateful to get underneath no path rush at all five receivers out eventually he finds his man second and four book six for six of this helping drive fires near side gets made an excellent defensive play by Tyree Rodgers one of those DBS asked to step up tonight he stepped up all right that's a big play out in space again love how Ian book just hits that ball out quickly a very athletic fight in Mac and Mac doesn't even have a chance to turn the corner because of the quickness there by Rodgers third and one [Applause] first down yardage spot big closes the nose of the ball at the one Chris they might take a look at this spot I thought his knee may hit behind from where he eventually ended up landing and kind of bouncing forward I think he looks like he's about a half a yard short if you look where his knee initially hits right there down there he bounces kind of moves forward Steve McBride the replay official for this ACC crew you may have the ball back a little bit from the initial placement they're going to bring the chains out I still think there's a chance that ball could be moved back a little bit but if it is fourth down does Kelly go for it down here the way they have been in attack mode I think you have to yes and it goes back to the 11 months of training for this kind of environment you're not gonna kick a field goal you got to go for him I hear you he agrees with you three big old tight ends in the football game now for the Irish on this fourth down play can they quiet this crowd working the hook he's stir things up even more with a big stand [Applause] rock wipe the tight end is lined up at bull dock in front of Williams and the book has great feet for a bootlegger at naked he looks like he's with the snake first and goal Notre Dame not a big guy six foot tall about 200 pounds but he kind of wormed his way to find a little gap in there you get a little push also from bravura helping trying to push it from behind see that all the time in college football sandwiches the khalaby a book I love watching his kid play just a gym rat approach studies film relentlessly to be prepared and just playing with it with a swagger of confidence about himself that I think the team feeds off it they shift all those big bodies to the right [Applause] marches in 74 yards and 11 plays to quiet lane a bit here Notre Dame fan it's exactly what you wanted to see 12 plays 75 yards a little over five and a half minutes and a touchdown in Ian's book the the Mojo continues seven of seven on that initial drive for the Fighting Irish book is the holder we're just in use be 80 attempts ninety-four the last two days the first three games all at home they didn't exceed 24 points seven four seven 58 yards at that quarterback sneak on fourth down Williams finished the job Tereus Wheatley so know Tyrone has a chance to receive the kick for Jonathan door after the nine they will be stacked up just across the 20 here's the strongarm jr. from Kansas Ryan Willis 6 for 223 pounds and he does have the experience from the 10 starts at Kansas and to me get adjust to the speed in the complexity of this Notre Dame defense kind of settle into the game also I think he's got an ability to make throws downfield and he's got to be able to exploit when when he gets to matchups that he wants he's got to be able to find them recognize them and then make the throws he's got some very talented receivers really shared his story coming back from home the despair of all those losses and all that punishment he took at Kansas and landing here Stephen people's is the back Willis law now takes a downfield shot and shadow over the head of Shawn Savoy a little early adrenaline from the quarterback Jalen Elliott Virginia native was in coverage let's keep an eye on the left tackle true freshman against these talented pass rushers Dara Shaw darris all 77 and it's a receiver so you see the running back mcLeese you'll see people's in there as well Hazleton Grimsley kuma teen these guys can make plays Hazleton a close buddy of Willis they each sat out last year as transfers he's at back-to-back hundred yard receiving games number 14 Savoy in motion the end-around they pick up about four well this Irish defense has been just outstanding we've talked about Jerry Tillery 7 sex co-leader the nation Kony and tranquil outstanding line back great animal I'm back row hope for another guy 42 to launch especially in these situations on third down truly in love the best cover man for this team one of the best cover corners in all of college football we already saw jaylen aliens come a long way from last year play with a lot more confidence empty backfield Hokies need six here comes the rush Willis gets it out it's complete but not a first down as tavon Kony just smacks even peoples right there and the Hokies go three and out he has worked so hard on his coverage skills he you know when you can rush the quarterback as quickly as Notre Dame can you've got to get the ball out in a hurry and that's exactly what they decide to do they get it out in a hurry and look at look at Kony who's known as a guy who's physical he's up to 240 it's very instinctive is stopping the rum at that time out in the coverage then lefty from Austria Chris makes their fair catch I'm happy we have an Aussie punter in the game life is good can be hours the reps and the heart not think they keep you from being flip were they Goodyear more driven the drive by Notre Dame so so impressive and book takes over after the three and out by Virginia Tech seven four seven so far Oh high-percentage tech throws [Applause] Bateson Williams and book steps up it's a downfield shot and fake as what he prayed Chris fate makes the cut that is not down in the red zone but can do no wrong so far he's feeling it you know his first start they threw the ball in first in ten sixteen times and he hit 12 them the reason that's important you get favorable matchups you get a very quick receiver and fake up against the safety that's a mismatch because they're anticipating the tendency to be run they're over committed to the line of scrimmage you get to match up time to throw and book as the accuracy 56 yards for the senior from date even now the first incompletion and miscommunication on the far side going on here completely impact players tonight Kirk let's start with Dexter Williams in the backfield great to see him back last week blows up runner Myles Boykin to look for him especially in this area Ricky Walker's got to make some plays in the inside and Caleb Farley better hold up one-on-one the rest of those corners for the Hokies secondary Williams who raced 45 yards for a touchdown on the first touch of the season against Hanford then was just the overall workhorse in that game visited 461 miss those first four games suspended and kinda went down to the scout team during camp the first two weeks had to earn his way back did just that very thing had that big game last week first game back third and seven [Applause] blinkin incomplete he's knocked down after the throw and Tech's defense does hold after the big play as the ball was snapped you could see that's the matchup he wants Boykin that step that size and look where he throws the ball that's intentionally done he missed it but he missed it high he'll go back to that with Boykin at 64 and he'll try to make that throw again against Quillin I promise you he'll make it Justin Yoon is closing in the all time Notre Dame scoring record which Alan picket set 33 years ago tries to get three points closer to the mark from 31 yards when he drives it through and came out the other night he was recruited by two guys with Notre Dame connections Charlie Weis and Ron Palace but they got fired and then David Beaty told him you're not exactly what I'm looking for as a quarterback but he didn't take the hit he's still enrolled there what aren't what are they looking for a Kansas supporter well apparently not that a strong arm okay but anyway about that he decided to walk on here just like his parents Louis and see they each walked on as college athletes and had excellent success he was a kicker the Kansas State Louis an excellent track and field athlete at Iowa State his sister Laura also walked on it Oklahoma went to a couple of Final Fours and there's a long and that's the guy he has a special connection with David Hazelton Hazleton as you mentioned he and Willis sitting out and getting a chance to work together on the scout team and there's a rhythm and a confidence there when you throw it with the co cert receiver a lot of times you just have an ability to get into rhythm that's the guy you want to look early in this game too guys when you're sitting at this transfers you got to sit in the stands and watch the games after practicing all week that's kind of a bummer but they got through it Maria yeah they came in as transfers together Chris and that means they fed on the scout team and Willis said that he threw the Hazelton literally every single play and that's when they had guys like Terrell Edmonds and greg strowman playing in the DVD with Donna Sadler Eric Alexander was playing linebacker at that time was a play-action and a dog in completely for chemo who was brought down crowd wanted a flag on Troy pride junior Hazleton by the way spot a touch 10 in all four of his games here at Tech herb all-stater he is running an offense like we see every pretty much every game you turn on with a lot of rpoS run past options and trying to read that second level defender whether he's in defending the run or sitting out in the box lead to one third down and willis flips it into flats of people see the people's makes a man miss and gets a first down in Notre Dame territory nice job getting about quickly giving people's a chance to be able to try to make them move because you know koni koni gets out there avoids the the traffic is able to get out there but a great job of cutting back inside the effort there by corny to try to get to the outside he'd recognize that cut it back and picked up the yard now people's on the work works looking to throw downfield under special play there is a flag here midfield the canon operators and his depression [Applause] for Justin Fuente the right time to dial it up waited gets Notre Dame's defense out of position and the true freshman dare saw his downfield to eliminate two touchdown look at a left tackle right here succeed they're trying to sell it and actually really Grimsley sells the heck of it but right here is Duras saw the left tackle he's getting downfield about 6 7 yards downfield the official makes the right call and Virginia Tech wastes their big opportunity to get back into this game and get this crowd back into this game they've practiced that play a lot on Thursday Kirk's have boys not a great passer but the receiver somewhere was just so so wide open I love Todd brimsley sold that he just basically baited the defense to him and then he just kinda kind of hookshot the throw out there because there's no defenders out there it shows you just how collaborative this board is a true freshman tackle you know 30 yards away from the pledge is that that brief mental error few two yards downfield so it's person 15 [Applause] and they've used up their special play for the week mclees sipar follows his blockers nicely and is knocked down after about a nine yard game it follows the center Hoyt around no use mclees ten peoples mainly in that backfield I think they complement each other very well mcLeese is sucked in quick thirty three people's a little bit more physical the senior 225 pounds but police will stay in the game Burnie game was smothered by Duke Blue Devils proud of the line hoagie backs couldn't get much going was a long throw to the air great Turner the very talented true freshman makes his fourth catch of the season and it's a first down I said this when we had in week 1 against Florida State Justin Fuente is building this program up last with last Rhea cam Phillips the true freshman Shawn Savoy now he's got some depth out at wide receiver this freshman's really helping out Turner he makes a catch it he is smack very hard by Jaylon Elliot the safe news get 26 friends and family here tonight he comes from Richmond also you see Julian love I think one of the better corners in the country right there comes up and hits him and shows he how physical he can be these notre-dame corners will hit you it's not just about covering with him they're asked to make plays in an open field and they do that I'd love to watch 27 days the old time past broken up guy a Notre Dame one second and five that's a keeper from the quarterback that he shows his strength or spinning it around that Willis plates he's pulling for a big defensive and one of their mo talented players left he's on the left side there he just grabs on I think he may be surprised by the size and power of Willis who right now is showing it again he's he's got some athletic ability just a point they telling us he's not just a passer the guy's got some quickness power and also determination death it means everything to him to be in a game like this after what he's been through third and one when you see the power of the quarterback use you just wonder if a guy like that Kirk gets a little too hyped because he's waited so long for this chance in fact that's he's very different from Josh Jackson who was flatline very very chill he's got he plays quarterback like a linebacker so regardless of just this scene and planet number six team in a country he just plays the quarterback position with and up with a much more amount of emotion than what you typically see from the quarterback and there's a flag at the center booths that Center was about to snap it moved in just a second mental error and this offensive line in this series first Zechariah Coates who waits in Grimsley getting a to Old Testament guys here you get Zechariah Hezekiah we did an Ezekiel up down to give folks a biblical hairstyle to [Applause] sips the Hokies back first and 15 Tereus Wheatley who's the back now goes in motion and another false start Wow supposed to be the road team that's undone by all this energy this time it's the right guard both start number 61 offense five-yard penalty [Music] it's the veteran pylon called his number [Applause] c61 they're lined up at right guard who's in his six a year talking about self-destructing it's hard enough to move the ball against Notre Dame let alone with you having these penalties it's the most experienced unit on this team the offensive line 51 combined starts but misfiring twice so it's first in twenty and that will as far as far side gets about five yards of that back the completions that Hazleton again his third catch no this offensive line for it's gonna be keyed up the Irish you see them on tape they are disruptive they are dynamic getting after the quarterback invading the backfield [Applause] - serious challenge for any offensive line second in 14 Willis keeps it a pop sit across the middle he had Wheatley Oakland and he just missed him yeah that's that's who's just trying to sneak him out of the backfield trying to get the linebackers out of position and had a chance bill walked 22 trying to come over there late but if he if he leads him over the middle of the field there's nobody there instead just miscommunication he kind of expected Wheatley to stay outside but if he throws that as I said over more the middle infielders there's nobody left for the Notre Dame defense he Wheatley proudly goes to the end zone there in the fringe field goal reigns they need 14 on third down Hazel's ins in the slot to the left Willis is looking in that direction can't afford to take a sack here and now he'll scramble and he'll power his way for a short gain inside the 25 before Coney stopped him and here comes a field goal attempt you you better get that ball out in a hurry as you said Chris against this Notre Dame defensive line on third down because they're gonna turn loose some athletes and she's able to pick up some yards there but they had some big plays they had to touch down pull back but still just trying to settle for three Brian Johnson is a sophomore takes over for the four-year starter Joey sly and this from 40 yards he drives it through Dean Vandy and Elijah Holyfield with the 24-yard touchdown putting the Bulldogs up 14 to 3 this game is over on the SEC network Chris Erbe Berea back to you guys NASA D thanks to the Bulldogs in front other top playoff contenders like Alabama and Clemson really rolled today 63 three Tigers over Wake Forest ouch beat by Jordans town again minutes t-midi kickoff returns tonight kick off your week five NFL Sunday on ESPN ten o'clock tomorrow morning sunday NFL captain crew will have all the updates Odell Beckham sounding off on the one and three sharp of the g-men and getting the bone up and probably the top of his list of complaints Redskins who claimed Monday night have 3x Hokies on their team and those guys are on the sidelines tonight but foster would like to have tim settle strong but if you other guys in uniform if he could notice Williams has a line aroma gets the edge and just a easy run untouched almost out near the 40 they lost teeth they lost the edge of their defense you see this movement right here on the outside by gangs and watch now once he moves to the inside there's just nobody out there Ricky Walker done about a honey they stunt they're trying to get out there that's a tough ass for a defensive tackle her name calls the right play at the right time now it's play-action yeah rook takes another downfield shut and fake was open again overshot him they're going to continue to go after that match up because fake against Rogers is a mismatch especially on first and ten he's got the cushion little hesitation goes right by him I can't believe he's out there but you can't do it all defensively and booked would love to have that one back by the way first and 10 is where Ian's book likes to throw the football he's been incredibly successful these last three weeks doing them sure doesn't every quarterback love to throw the football and Burson said well he was 22 28 combined against Wake Forest and again last week what he was able to do and if you look tonight he's already 6 of 8 so Brian Kelly I don't blame him you see the matchup he's gettin against Rogers because keep going back to it until what foster makes an adjustment and be third and 2 throws it over top of the head a wall or who's in zone trying to get underneath of that throw but again the rhythm the timing great job by a engulfed thrown there to the big tall Miles Boykin he get missed his last three after starting eight for a downfield again Boykin got tied up in traffic and couldn't get there Javon quillin's as the backups are all over at Tech secondary tonight at the moment and a lot of emerges inexperienced players maybe quillin's a junior who's probably improved the most in the secondary Mitchell teams yeah yeah but he's improved a lot as a corner he's going to get some action obviously tonight with that injury to Farley and flips it short after sorting is math by Rogers that's more of Rogers play Tyree Rogers as a safety and that's more of what you'd like to see him do go up against the tight end and have to be able to make a assess hole against the big tall tight end whose by the way I'm pretty good athlete but when you leave him one-on-one against Chris fake he's going to lose that battle more often than not Irish needs six on this third down Tony Jones is the bat thing comes in motion out of the slot Plus rustically on the move and will be knocked out-of-bounds short of the marker Ricky Walker the big man pursued him and his four bounds say this time but foster gets he's just kind of mixing up the looks doing anything he can to try to get in booked out of this rhythm so instead of playing man-to-man a bringing pressure that time rushes for plays zone could you call smoke-and-mirrors he's kind of grass yeah he's one of the best defensive minds in the game and he's only doing what he can do is what he has he's kind of picking his spots to play man and when to play zone that time dials up the zone and does a good job of making book hold on to the ball Tyler Newsome now his fourth year starting punter the booted away CJ Carroll [Applause] and it's mishandled I knew someone [Applause] at the 45 a special teams gaff gives up his life [Applause] this is just a bad snap punter Jim never has a chance he tries the short hop in and then by the time he gets the football he can clearly see all the Hokies are all over him got a deer in the headlights maybe should have tried to kick the ball somewhere I think he's not gonna run for a front I think just the snap itself being solo by Shannon surprised him and his eyes started to go up and he saw those jerseys coming towards him let's see after a sudden change what Virginia Tech and can do here me and a whistle again before the snap they call timeout even Justin Fuente is hot ones Willis to come over sudden change offense wasn't well quiet now opening the Hokie offense can convert that bad punch snap and two points and Willis big pop fake and tries to take a shot downfield when his favorite guy Hazleton with excellent coverage by Troy Pryor yeah Troy pride I think his most improved defensive back that they have watch five and he senses that little hesitation that's the stutter and go great thing he did is right away he's thinking about him getting deep so he turns his head looks at the quarterback and anticipates the throw and he's leaves in position in phase and knocks it away because a keeper and a hard hit Willis just lowers his head and absorption is shot from loi Gilman will be third down with us the big guy turning 23 pounds at six four and he's accelerating fits right into Gilman his 202 pounds did he's a big man running but he what he pulls the ball like that peoples as the back they need five Willis slings a slant Hazleton again has got it he's got a first down in the red zone Willa's to Hazleton firing tide again he goes into motion and that's to try to effect a communication with a Notre Dame coverage nice job of protecting and giving him the time but there's that connection once again Chris with Willis in Hazleton who were very familiar with each other going back to last year on the scout team some offenses you take out the william and mary game and the Hokies have really struggled on third down but a three or four five start tonight and yet another mental mistake that's a third false start part of what points dealing with is you're at home you would think it'd be easy for the center but you have a new quarterback and a new kind of just feel to the cadence and to the snap and right now I think Heights still trying to get comfortable with Willis being in there as opposed to Josh Jackson who is much more comfortable with and in the rhythm of how he called a game way the sophomore not one of the more experienced lineman paedon chase did he escape he cannot set back at the 35 yard line Julian Oh flora got there in a hurry oh that's that's great coverage but it's this shows you the inexperience of Ryan Willis he's got to throw this ball away remember Notre Dame is known for Pat rushing the quarterback and great pass rushers not only that they bring Coney he has to have that internal clock going he's got to get outside of the pocket and throw that football away had the ball in the red zone Kirk dead penalty and now an 11-yard loss makes his second and 26 Irish rush for Willis has time and delivers into the zone slipping after the catch was Savoy yet a small chunk of the yardage back it'll be third down and about 15 well designed play there by Justin Fuente using the back stephen peoples to take Cloney out to the outside and really opened up the middle of the field and say when he puts his foot in the ground and he stick one hitch and throws the only was a lot of velocity but typically pretty accurate so boy in motion they faked the backwards pass in people's feisty attack rates but flying up was brute rifle who's playing with a cast on that hand in a fractured bone in his hand against a bird that's a quality tackle he's uptight showing blitz and then kind of settles and then he the center point he's in a rough night tries to pick him up but no chance even with that cast Frank boys you know he went from playing a safety to a rover now a linebacker makes the play again Brian Johnson on to kick a field goal and Lenox booms it way up in the neck from 43 and the Hokies cache in the special teams business to ring you up when you become the quarterback at Notre Dame you become a celebrity at this sport and a strong start for book defense a good job is the tech team sort of self-destructed after they've got down in scoring position with the the false start in the sack to lead so poor young will let this one sail way over the in line the bear Christa FeliCa will give us his update on his selections from college game day and the Aflac trivia question in that order [Applause] we took the offer more importantly tonight sounds like trivia question if you wanted the challenge I'm gonna give you a challenge Virginia Tech two and 34 all-time versus eep eep up 1613 68 people so that's a lot of losses but not the most which team has lost the most number of games versus AP top success I'm gonna we're gonna be as successful as you are with your picks today give it to Williams and Aki it out in Ricky Walker this is Virginia Tech defense slanting angling and getting off of blocks this is what you like to see they also getting pressure they bring ladler could see also 21 Reggie Floyd getting up in there that's why you see Notre Dame throwing on first to ten Virginia Tech being very aggressive on early downs and I think books is going to go back to doing that because of the one-on-one chances look back pedals in the pocket and delivers a strike catch made across the middle by him it it's going to be third and short they did sandwich but held on they've got three or four really good looking tight ends at Notre Dame good size great tradition of having tremendous NFL quality tight ends the big third down here for both teams Nets got high pain threshold he's been dealing with a high ankle sprain playing through it Tony Jones is the back on third and five they fake it to him and flip it to Claypool has got a couple blockers and he's got a first down across the 35 it's a beauty a having size at wide receiver get those tight ends out in front and Claypool's basically liked it tight in himself it's six for almost six five and about 230 pounds he can do a lot of damage after the catch the Canadian is the special teams gunner remember the last first and ten they slanted they angled they brought safety pressure look for a book here that looks like Notre Dame's gonna call timeout that will give a rest because Bud Foster had put in the second team defensive lineman the backups at all four positions were out there down it was reviewed and upheld Bulldogs up 13 to three all for just 79 yards of offense in the first half this game on espn2 Chris 79 yards urgency and redemption therefore Mississippi State [Applause] it's a tackle big to just barreling into the Hokie secondary another first down near midfield I love these physical they've got good hands this guy's six five 260 remember first and ten which in detect tendency to show pressure so instead of taking a shot downfield they just get it out from the perimeter in a hurry to the big tide in none of those guys are any fun to tackle hook in the pocket delivers play poll is open briefly but overshot Quillin finally caught up in coverage they're gonna load the box and come after you you got to take those shots just if nothing else trying to push them back and get back to being able to run the football remember Fink who's not on the field right now he's had the mismatch the biggest mismatch to tonight against Rogers running the football something neither team has done well Irish the six yards rushing so far and book look at her throw again it's almost like a running play sophomore Michael gun makes the catch in his tackle by price-wise it's really a triple option his first read is supposed and once he makes that read he committed to the running backs we kept it and came down field with Virginia Tech had every angle covered [Applause] whose hulkies survived the Irish efficiencies have got back game and now a chance to get off the field on third and 10 only a three-man rush book has all day and takes another shot and it's a any completion over the head a Boykin who was wrestling with Watts no flag and no chance really gets double coverage but Foster's answer is to try to get in book in this offense to third down and then rush three or four then sit back with eight seven or eight this time he goes with eight and coverage much tougher on book obviously to read when you've got eight guys downfield and coverage a John Shannon who had never delivered a bad snap as Notre Dame career did so last time keep an eye on that as Newsom back to punt and that snap is perfect the boot is very high to make a fair catch but not before musting it booming putt but it could be like a built Northwestern I said Northwestern talk to both of those good guesses and you have the right conference Kirk the answer tonight's athletics consciously was lost most its Wisconsin those teams top six Ohio State Michigan type teams look so good good guess you got us this week I think it broke Brooke her winning streak Hokies backed up and the police is the back gonna keep it and he's gonna get the edge scoots out of bounds it's a offensive line Kirk that's had five penalties the four false starts and the ineligible downfield it gets Dara saw that he gained at the touchdown so and don't forget they also when they were deep inside notre dame territory they had the sack which also heard a scoring chance and scoring opportunity they've had opportunities to not only be able to stay in this game but possibly take the lead the way their defense is held in there Grimsley on the after and is slowing down by pride after our first down they blog there to leave the run there by the running back mcLeese 33 takes down the wall gives him a little bit more room lowers that shoulder and gets the first down yeah just the sixth first down Tech has been able to generate liyan motion again they fake it to Willis makes a law to Hong airmailed into the bench but you see the arm strike you talked about you can make that throw the left hash all the way on the out cut seems like they continued to try to get the ball to Damon Hazleton how hard is that to defend if you get a quarterback they can get it from one hash to the numbers on the opposite side typically that corner that fuel corner is giving a big cushion not thinking most college quarterbacks can make that throw three receivers to the right flips it in the slot that was inaccurately thrown tried to get to Eric kuma it was behind him certain town surprised the Virginia Tech has it's been able to try to run the ball more you know that right now they they only run for 31 yards they have 10 carries on the night Notre Dame has a very talented defensive line but let's see how this game goes you're not going to do it here on third down but thought we'd see a little bit more balance from them running the football and snapping the ball is done they moved the garden center and a blindside hit and that was oh coral off the edge it affected the throw and it's fourth down keeps talking about it but when you have curry Neiman Tillery and hayes and here comes a core on the outside that's a true freshman left tackle who studied all week about Julian Oh Poirot what he needs to do to be able to get that left foot out but still too quick for him to get around the edge fake this monster make a fair catch at the 36 yard line so inside of six minutes to go before half-time in the Irish or try to add to their four-point lead next week Saturday Night Football presented a Wells Fargo will be in the big house in Ann Arbor for the Wolverines today and again was delayed by weather and Wisconsin rolled in their big 10 battle starts at 7:30 Eastern Time 17 point lead for the moment for the Badgers against the Cornhusker still winless we always talk Jonathan Taylor but Alex Hornibrook I'm in a very good year very accurate passer become a veteran to that office see if the Irish offense Kirk can get the rhythm that they had gone into the first couple series this is the guy that they were hitting early on first and 10 it's going to be a play-action Brandeis has set to picked up a resi Floyd and Floyd that the first turnover of the game sets tech up in Nunavut territory [Applause] I think this is one of the first mistakes we've seen Ian bookmaking the last three weeks he never sees Reggie Floyd who's down almost like a linebacker kind of sneaking down and I don't think he ever saw him he was so locked in on making that throw that he he I don't even think he took into consideration that Floyd would be there and it's one of the first as I said first mistakes that handbook has made in three starts ACC defensive back to the big last week and he had a lot of Terry the turf monster got him because he had a lot of room on that return tech at the 42 so boy is there and it's broken up had a chance Elliot was defending him they continued to take shots downfield right I don't blame him again we much like we saw on the other side with Notre Dame trying to get the ball to Chris fake this time it's a boy and the ball is led in front of him it's probably a touchdown for Savoy but he has to come back to the ball which allows Elliot to go up there with his size and knocked the ball away from the shorter Tsuboi who's only five nine terrific play by Elliot whose dad Anthony played here at Virginia Tech his parents in fact met as duties attack people's makes the cut in the clear [Applause] the tech running game produces a big play yards watch this Bluff by the center right there on tranquil he cuts behind that and then a poor effort there buys the safety Eliot tremendous block downfield by the receivers looks like that might have been Phil Patterson he's well short of the goal line but they love to see receivers 30 yards downfield trying to help a running back out that time it was Phil Patterson oh that's kind of all the way to the end zone good look at the progressive pile on cam so it's first to go second effort of the ball and it's cool on down there quarterback Willis are trying to help us running forget the linemen pushing him back the quarterback is getting in there trying to throw that is back into the end zone Toki's got a linebacker mentality for a quarterback so the more snap of the punt which they cashed in for three and then the interception by Floyd and tech after staggering earlier poised to take the lead about Willis he's one yard away from taking a lead against the number six team in the country again nothing doing for people's knocked down but the lid cream who came reading around the edge we talk a lot about these Thunder Dame defensive line and how good they are as pass rushers but total package Cleve Kareem 53 does a good job of working around the block Frank Ville gets in there as well I think they moved backwards in the two carriers it's third and goal [Applause] they collide in the backfield Willison to each other and a loss back to the five it is fourth down wow what a sequence yeah there's another that's another thing where you see a quarterback that hasn't taken a lot of snaps a miscue between he in people's who's a veteran a senior you can pretty much assure the senior went the right way and you wonder which way the quarterback win in Virginia Tech right at the one-yard line has to settle for a field goal when it went to the Notre Dame defense which made two stops and then he got an assist his blue infused but in fact people's when he came over kind of tapped himself on the chest saying my bad so that's on that's on the senior so again the miscue cache but only for three years Tech thieves four points on the field right there people's having a conversation with his position coach upstairs so the Irish Kirk have 321 and we'll see if book can shake off quickly that first mistake you made a good point about we're talking a lot about what happened with Willis and a Virginia Tech offense the Notre Dame defense shoestring tackled prevents peoples from scoring and then they bow up down there for three downs and force that field goal [Applause] Tony Jones is the back they fake it to a buster off the airs and book no chances he's it to the bench need to have a conversation about grounding here the little Adler is wearing that number 25 Jersey tonight honoring Frank Beamer all they want to know is did the ball get across the line of scrimmage it's all it's discussion is about he was outside in a tackle box area and once he got outside of that tackle box if he throw it away and it gets beyond the line of scrimmage you're doing requires the opinions of different officials and it will be in the ground there you go [Applause] could see it sailed out of bounds very near the line of scrimmage Dave Kataya our rules expert alongside as always he was not out of the tackle box he took about three steps to them to the right and there was nobody in the area that's a good ball got help from the line judge on that second down to 20 and lane stadiums got loud again [Applause] short drop short completions hell is a Mac knocked down by Floyd the Interceptor Virginia Tech fan that's what you want to see from your defensive backs against these taller receivers and tight ends very few yards after the reception he's all over men Crabtree made the play and see Farley back out of the field trying to fight through that pain that he's had earlier in this game yeah that ankle heavily wraps [Applause] remember they've been playing a lot of zone on these third downs rookies rush five book has time now hit as he throws hit really hard and he is helped to his feet - pizza pan to the tech defense has made a stand and it was Rashard Ashby the middle linebacker 23 kind of spying him then it decides to nuts by him and lower the hammer he didn't realize that book wasn't going anywhere so he attacks him to force the ball out of his hands and good to see in book get up from that hit because Ashby hit him park thank goodness for those those chest pads the quarterbacks return yeah Newsom I already had the one misadventure tonight snap-roll back to omen II tried to run around and got tackled Carol standing at his 30 [Applause] cinco's low again do some gets the punter and it's a former inside the 20 the carol has got real Newsome out kicked the coverage of it and a good return sets tech up near the 40 yard line with 217 to play 58 gar punt 19 the other way Monday Night Football we could see NFL history Drew Brees 200 yards shy of Peyton Manning's record for most career passing yards Saints and the Redskins from the Superdome 8:15 on ESPN almost simulcast on ESPN Suzy against hit see history marking her make bounce them back in there and hokey fans can see three Virginia Tech X players the dominant second quarter tech has held the Irish of 31 total yards peoples who have that big run stop just short of a touchdown back in the game Willis rolling out and he's hit as he throws of all his flutters to the turf he's fortunate wasn't picked off Karim was pressuring him three not only pressured him I think he got his hand on the ball I think Willis is trying to throw that ball once he was outside of that pocket out of bounds he's just trying to throw it away but I think Kareem touched the ball or touched his arm yeah and because of that the ball stayed in play it's kind of floating up in the air and Notre Dame almost comes away with an interception again Kareem making his presence felt earlier against the run and also as a pass-through she's got the eye black going all over his face they're among the best teams of pressure the quarterback off the edge powerful receiver worked hard in the weight room to gain strength as a receiver and a blocker brought down by Tillery it'll be third and eight Notre Dame area they've improved the most is Khalid Kareem Galen Hayes julinho Quora Jerry Tillery when they want to turn it loose they do not have to blitz even though a lot of times a walk-up kony and tranquil show blitz a lot of times they'll drop and just rely on those four to be able to get after the quarterback in vetoes linemen this one sack Kirk went as he pointed out they pressured and hurried Willis frequently they rush for to a state it does and he'll run for a first down into the other day territory a deceptive athlete he can't beat you with his speed the only thing is they spread the entire Notre Dame defense out so you see that running lanes all over the place once he decides to be able to escape the pressure there's nobody there nobody there to really spy him Jones a defensive end who didn't have the quickness to make the play but they didn't have Coney there or tranquile with the man-to-man coverage Willis as a passer is missed five in a row has to dodge pressure again that's a takeaway for the Irish if Julian ruff is going to score the other way a scoop and score reverses momentum [Applause] Jones is going to get the touchdown but the man who reserves to credit again khalid kareem relentless approach an effort here just not giving up on the play goes down on the ground and still comes up to knock that ball loose for love to pick up and score the touchdown so this Irish defense which is in a a good job keeping tech out of the end zone which seven points on the board [Applause] boots it through and it's 17:9 Chris he's over here lined up on the right he comes around but I want you to watch why this ends up being a play get it going again a true freshman pushes through a double-team he's on the ground you're thinking he's out of the play but watch this gets up knocks the ball away and there's love aware picks it up obviously goes in but a touchdown but I'd love to see that effort there by Kareem and there's an example of Ryan Willis just trying to do too much and not have an experience to fall back on Julian love could not have asked for a better bounce he's a kid who grew up in Chicago grew up a big Notre Dame fan living his dream and Kelly has seen the offense cool off a lot but the defense finds the end zone Willis felt the pressure desperately trying to escape he didn't count on Kareem coming from behind and not going to loose what a player whip cream is Notre Dame's got defensive linemen they've got some athletes dream an excellent player they also is say easy a model student athlete just a hard worker makes the guys around him better he could stream college football all season long on ESPN Plus starts your free trial today by downloading the ESPN app or visit he s pn + calm quiet lane stadium at the moment there's a irish player down on the field Brandon Hudson makeup defensive lineman so today's offense Kirk came out and he and book was on fire completed his first eight pass attempts and they quieted this crowd then tacked thanks to some mistakes found a way to get back in the game and that suddenly that lightning strike there bye-bye love has changed everything yeah I mean that's college football you think you're in the position and maybe hey how about this hasn't been a great first half but have the ball late in the first half maybe a chance to get points on the board but in the blink of an eye the game goes the other way and now you're fighting back uphill again but a lot of football to be played in this game and of course you always get the adjustments at halftime for both these teams and see if they could try to come up with try to come up with some more offense this Notre Dame offense it's been in rhythm for three weeks and they started the game on fire with a couple great drives with handbook their last four possessions punt punt interception and a punt you saw that negative two rusher this team that came in averaging 200 yards per game on the ground they made ran right through Stanford last week so now it's Willis that has to shake off a mistake you feed mcLeese he's got a nice first down gamble see if one say plays with any urgency here they do have the two timeouts but inside of a minute now the girl's gonna play with some tempo see if they can threaten now as a drop Hazleton took his eyes off the ball looked up field but you could really go back and look at the first half and add up to misuse that not only the penalties and the drop drop balls like that from Hazleton but they had that reversed throat for a touchdown that had a legal man downfield they had a sack for a loss of about 15 or 20 yards and they're in field goal range that fumble the previous possession we're lost we picked it up I mean Virginia Tech has hurt themselves as much as other name now Hazleton makes the catch almost broke free Russell down near midfield clock stops momentarily 44 seconds to go and Hokies hurry how could he use the timeout here Willis from the pocket again delivers another strike and Hazleton is knocked out at the 40 so suddenly they are threatening and when in town he's looking up his favorite target Hazleton doesn't matter if it's against Troy pride or or truly involved he just feels that his bigger receiver can win those one-on-one matchups the Hazelton headed for a third consecutive hundred yard game six for 73 so far so not the two timeouts and now Notre Dame jump off the edge there was Jameer Jones who caused the flinch on the offensive line [Applause] kind of a freeze call there remember Virginia Tech deferred the the toss that they once they do get the ball to start the second half pressure up the middle they pick it up and Willis delivers to Hazleton again he's got the catch down in the red zone he's when he was waiting and waiting and waiting and eventually Hazleton broke broke free now they lose a timeout this this is you know you think it is Justin Fuente after that turnover they're just gonna kind of work the clock and go down eight in half and instead they that's emergency hit Hazleton a few times and now they're inside the red zone they've moved it 56 yards in 41 seconds to give themselves a chance to have one more time out here's that ineligible man downfield that drew up the Grimsley de Savoie touchdown darest air saw the freshman is a trick play that they executed perfectly other than the offense alignment getting downfield here's an open running back Wheatley out of the backfield but if there was a better throw to touch down and here's where people's went the wrong way bumps into the quarterback and in the previous possession the great effort by furry ball goes on the ground bump picks it up and it's a touchdown there are a lot of other offensive penalties that they've had offensive lineman making some mistakes Irish made a couple mistakes too but tech not able to divert them to touchdowns in Hazleton after that drop was cut passes of 16 12 and 21 yards want to get the ball out of his hands quickly here one timeout remaining [Applause] see if the Irish print pressure again now they just rushed for Willis has time and loops it for the end [Applause] Jill and Elia the safety got there to defend as well 23 seconds left almost felt that Jalen Eliot was baiting him to throw the ball Willis really telegraphed that throw stared him down the whole way and that's what brought Elliot over Elliot was as much of a factor in that game or in that play as as the corner was this being ref can giving you a look officials hat Hazleton his favorite target at the bottom Willis looking to the left again girl catch made Savoy and a flag is down where the quarterback was hit he got hit hi now little looks like Oh Cora that'll move it half the distance the balls of the seven yard line [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so look at DJ flag for targeting of course they'll review it as they always do the first hit comes from okura right there you know I don't know how he pulled 91 into that to me it looked like 42 yeah what she'll contact was Julian Oh flora he got pinball you're right by a hora and after he hit him he Kenda J it just happened to be rushing from the other side and after he's hit by Oh Cora bounced into him so Steve McBride the ACC replay official will decide the fate of hug and AJ Tec though threatening again good resilience to bounce back after the fumble scooper scores another look well maybe the follow-through is the only thing I guess you can see right here is the initial hit they set 91 at 42 I'm saying but but 91 hits him after after that shot here's Okura boom no it is the crown of the helmet and after your quarterback is following through in there so on the ball is considered in a defenseless position if the tires our rules expert let's see what you think about this review Dave to me this is Parkin e he doesn't have to get in with a crowd of the element even he but he dipped you have all the elements you have launched you have them lowering his head and you have a defensive player to me this is time I think sometimes people struggle with defenseless player they're what they're expecting the crown of the helmet to be involved and when it's a defenseless player it's not the case that he even gets them almost with the crown in this he checked every box in there right so they lose them where their best s pass rushers of the game now best pass rusher this year even though we've had a big night from Clete Karim 53 two big ones we've seen Virginia Tech down inside his 5-yard line and not come away with a touchdown 16 seconds remaining one time [Applause] peoples is the fat Hazleton comes in motion now reverses - touchdown finally they find the endzone [Applause] but Hazelton the two best buddies hooked up throughout the entire Drive and tech will not go for two at the time Johnson on who accept the p80 [Applause] seventy-five yards eight plays Kurt less than a minute the motion is critical here because it sets up what they want see Gilman 11 he struggles to get out to the outside because of the traffic it's basically a kick by these two wide receivers both them will run to the inside forces Gilman to have to go around them and when he went around them he just was unable to stay tight enough see right there they had to go around the traffic the progressive pylon cam gives you a good look at it by going wider makes it an easy throw and Willis got it out of his hands quickly Hokies strike and that mean five yards in less than a minute Hazleton the transfer from Ball State he was in the stands with his buddy Willis watching these games a year ago ineligible to play now has a touchdown in all five games that he's played at Virginia Tech and he's had a monster first half eight for 92 become predictable but the Irish have not stopped it one point game after a back and forth mistake filled first-half mistakes for both sides offense we get the ball as you said to start the third quarter Lane Stadium a lockup again by the thing I want to see in the second half not just Lane Stadium and the energy hopefully that will continue all night it's fun to watch but to Notre Dame's offense the adjustments from what we'll see from Brian Kelly and chip long because as I said their first couple of possessions tonight looked like same old Ian book over the last two weeks but the last four possessions get Bud Foster credit for coming up with ways to take away the run and get Ian's book rattled we've not seen that since he's been a starter but he's been rattled the last four possessions they take indeed they lose a couple more yards so about 21 yards of offense for the Irish in that second quarter tacked with the late Drive draws within one and the energy is back when the best environments of college football we get Brian Kelly's boss excuse me Justin 20 spots he's making his way toward Maria Taylor right now Tech will go to their little punchy locker over here in the state you have to fancy when they walked in from we could be better than it was about 10 minutes ago and Maria's ready with Justin 20 now you pulled your quarterback aside me let a touchdown drive what did you say - and I thought early in the game they took those shots and had him and had success I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them go back to that look for some of those favorable matchup but get the ball out of his hands quick and get the Virginia Tech defense on its heels yeah you saw seven for his last 15 after the eight for eight start and a bunch of short completions so Tech's offense after that long mark before half-time we'll go right back to work this is Terius Wheatley the whites are fixed his way across the 25-yard line Pacific Life game summary the average offense first two possessions produced ten points what book was his slinging around you called it kind of just layups making layups omitted lamps making quick decisions get the ball out of his hands and this is where you saw the coach just of what they saying Ryan Willis just trying to do too much trying to make every play there is a Notre Dame who scores the touchdown T instead of just pulling on their horns in going down eight they decided to attack and ended up getting a touchdown to pull within one and now they get the ball do Willis looking a throw and first down it's a hitch and the catch man yeah he said try to make every play in the history of football you and I agree we even mentioned in the first half that we could kind of see him he's so excited to be the starter for this team and play the number six team in the country in for Josh Jackson he's fired he's trying to make plays but he's got to know again where to draw the line and where to kind of give up on certain plays if they're not there busting freest even people's peoples have that huge run in the first half down to the wall but they couldn't punch it in I was territory Notre Dame's giving some big creases and that defense but give Virginia Tech credit for getting up to that second level Zechariah white to Center really good block there on drue tranquill and peoples again out in open space not just a big physical back has improved his quickness to senior the dude with all that hair Hawaii was was taken out briefly they put Chung at center and a calm the big fella down but he is back in there people's did a heavy traffic Jerry Tillery just bear hugged him ever since Hillary has a pass rusher he's the guy that came in with the cold lead in the country Kirk with seven sacks at four last week alone against Stanford in has made a name for himself this year great ranked at six six almost six seven 305 pounds you know they moved him from what they call the shade kind of the nose guard to the three technique where he's over against a guard and the coaches telling us the reason the production is up he's a better fit there for Brian Kelly because they get him involved in more twists and different things more than vault as a pass rusher good protection this time of the ball from behind do the receiver Chris Cunningham the tight end tillery's a guy Kirk at his senior year who has decided that it's important to him he's not bit known for being the best teammate to put it frankly throughout his career but he is turned it on in his senior season contract year for maybe yeah you know I think he's very intelligent young man and I think football has become even more important to him and he said that you know now you'll see him very committed to film study and trying to look for any kind of edge he can get especially when it comes to rushing a quarterback in these situations third and nine empty backfield Irish rushed four and Willis is flushed and flips his short but the completion well short of the first down knocked down Christmas to beauty again of rushing the four in not eating the Blitz because it frees up eyes to be able to get on the quarterback and be able to react see he's flushed he's got to get rid of the ball Tillery and company getting after him you have two or three different Notre Dame defenders who the high snap and Bradburn had to go up and grab it and gets off a good part in the Hokey never [Applause] raise yard Ashby there Hugh it makes a great play here Walker's known to be able to get penetration Hewitt and also you'll see them in a linebacker Ashby get involved what great quickness low center of gravity they say is a war force in the weight room we just that quick is paid off there [Applause] duck sir Williams in a footrace [Applause] no your touchdown second time the Hokies get within one and the IRAs produce an electric play to stretch the lead back not only are they within one they've got Notre Dame pinned deep inside their own territory and just like that the second week in a row dexter williams provides that lift to the Notre Dame offense after being suspended the first four games of the season talked about that Irish grin came there was in negative yards until that run it was minus five rushing yards until Williams took it 97 to the house watch the right guard come around Cramer does a nice job of picking up a block Boykin also kind of on a steel block right here on the linebacker but also I think what happens here is Cramer comes around makes a pick Farley's free to be able to help out here but he overruns it and that's where Williams ends up cutting back and there's no one left to get that defense so hyped up so aggressive down there at the goal line after the tackle for loss and the mistake yeah they're almost plant like a short yardage defense they're all coming after the line of scrimmage there's nobody left Brian Kelly gets a crease and with his speed that Williams has nobody can catch him welcome back to the Notre Dame offense Dexter Williams he's a guy like Hillary on the other side of the ball that has decided that it's worth 3 committing to being a college football player a Notre Dame employer really cool story though they you know he made some mistakes he paid for it went down to the scout team instead of pouting about it went to work earn the respect there was suck back yep knocked down at the 25-yard line coulda go the other direction but he really rededicated himself that's why the teammates were celebrating so much when he scored on that first touch last week to forget Saylor both Chris Brian Kelly coming out of the locker room was talking about the fact that his team was just a little too greedy and we saw on that play they're just taking what the defense gives them and that's exactly what he wanted Kirk hit the nail on the head when he said hitting their layups and actually playing through and executing now defensively he did feel like there were a little bit soft too in that half so he wants to see better production from his deep at the front here in the second half high snap Willis collects it and gets it out on the edge there Grimsley knocked down its first down yardage by Elliot just in case you're just tuning in something off of Maria's reports want to see more production she mentioned for the defensive line their best defensive end Julian off Warren is out of the game for a targeting play earlier on the quarterback Brian Willis so who wants to see more production and one of his best players not out there they still have very capable defensive linemen Willis on the run delivers a long the slides and mix the catch didn't Notre Dame territory first down again he's doing a good job of mixing up his targets also wente doing a nice job of mixing up the launch points instead of keeping him as a sitting target they're moving him around making it tougher on that password where do you rate Willis's arm strength among quarterbacks kids has a big arm we sorted out ten mclees the crease you see the reporter back out there top ten but he has a bigger arm I mean I I've only seen him play for two quarters and a couple snaps here I've been impressed with he doesn't have a lot of experience other than when he played at Kansas and here he's coming up against Notre Dame's defense it's been pretty good against almost everybody they've played and he's keeping his poise through a lot of adversity tonight gets it out Grimsley again on the and he knocked down by five but we see two or three times from the far hash mark he stole the ball all the way to the opposite boundary as a long throw and a 10 to 15 yard out cut stab was using the example of Jarek often of his from quarterback account 1 and 11 his first year let me just beaten up bruise and it worked out pretty well for me college and he's getting paid to play 33 from the pocket it's a slant in the sit completion another first down inside the 30 and it straights her to the freshman we slow to get up he's okay but the accuracy there how important accuracy is this ball is a little high little low little in front he has to catch it and get down as quickly as he can before Elliot hits him and then accurate throw allows him to make that catch some of the fourth will be in New York City inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame pass at 18 the first year of eligibility it was a no-brainer to say the least so tech back to work the people just spun down good penetration there that was the viola [Music] something about every time you come back to Lane Stadium you just think about beaver ball and Frank Beamer and the way he did it the way he built his program back up and loves his place he played here he's a coach head coach I mean it you think of Virginia Tech you think of Frank Beamer you know the end-around to be smothered the Irish flu field there it was Kareem is at a big night Kareem ends up cleaning it up but drue tranquill actually sets the edge with his speed did a really good job of beating the block of Steven people's watch 23 work to get to the outside right there he gets outside of that block of people's forces him back inside and Kareem cleans it up after the loss it's 1311 willis rolls looks sidelines but skips the ball incomplete so fourth down field goal attempt coming up Brian Johnson has been very solid missed one yet this season take three so far tonight career lon 45 454 in pregame is from 48 just outside that upright the entire football has to be inside the inside edge of the upright extended to be good and Johnson's attempts just missed so the Notre Dame lead is still eight on course of the college football playoff [Applause] Williams that big explosion the second longest touchdown run at Notre Dame history missed a yard short of Josh Adams run a few years ago go back to that Miami game Krista stake at about 11 months ago when we walked down to Miami and watched this Notre Dame team there up the top five and season imploded on them after that game and you talked you and I talked to Brian Kelly this week he talked about the energy they put into trying to be able to handle these conditions the long throw who make you the catch is wicked knock that through some very interesting methods he used yeah I I was shocked with the different things he talked about they talked about being in the weight room and and helicopters going off just different noises to just try to create the just an unusual atmosphere and using soccer balls and not telling them about it they just say figure it out you know he wanted them to have to think on their own and survive on their conditions on a third one Williams bust through and just a saving tackle by Floyd to prevent another big game it was helicopter and the speakers are not actual hell that would have been a little too crazy yeah that would have gone next level all about addressing we didn't play well on the road last year these tough atmospheres this is really their first test since then he was very confident coming in that they addressed it look hot fake shot downfield and overthrown again he's in a few times and was Boykin and there is the meltdown in Miami a bottle was thrown at the bus it busted a wind out and that seemed to intimidate a wart or scoop the Irish team and then the turnover chain came out in his was just it was those rolling in a hurry and Miami's one of those nights 41 day and right killing say I'll take that on me I didn't I didn't get the guys ready to play we're gonna learn from them play action and they pitch it far side I'm said big tight and Alizee Mac I will say this they got the lead right now if this is a different Virginia Tech team compared to Miami but they've been much more aggressive tonight much more confident much more in command than where they were a year ago and I think a lot of it has to do with him book and a lot of it just has to do with this hit older team got more confident team but until Williams busted loose of that 97 yards sprint they were on the ropes a little bit yeah for excellent recovery third and six Tony Jones is the back [Applause] it's the three-man rush just delivers that's one of those layups who talk about easy pitch and catch - fake Ana fake is he he looks like a guy who played a lot of backyard football watch him just sit in his soft spot in the zone just settles right between two defenders those exactly where the first down marker is on third down and he had booked have a great connection Hokies swarm into the backfield and tackle for loss by Ashby against Jones Ashby has really become the leader of this defense they lost so many great leaders to the NFL he was right in the middle nobody picks him up I could burn no chance inside of six minutes in the third plenty of time but it feels important protect to keep the Irish out of the end zone here limit the damage has time for the pocket of long cross people throw to fake again and Caleb Farley who's toughing it out with it ankle ailment that Maria talked about comes up to make the tackle so third long again fer and detectives from the third down this is see where DN book finds to match up in the last third down it was fake just kind of settling in there between the soft spot in that zone chief Bud Foster plays man or go zone again two bites who look a rush floor flushed tries to correct inputs it wide open boy good running down the sidewalks will score the improvisational skills of Ian's book produces a big touchdown there's the threat to the quarterback run and what it can do you'll see these guys in coverage Tim breakaway they start to chase Ian's book it's a busted coverage and Boykin has enough speed to get it into the end zone but the threat again on third down of the end book showing that he's going to take off improvise and keep it a play alive defenders let go of Boykin and he finds him kind of Bates tan until he makes the throw the speedy Farley of the van ankle could not recover and chase down Boykin yep both pokey defenders bit and played the quarterback he forgot about the senior receiver who makes his second touchdown catch of the season and Notre Dame it's a big place by the Irish offense that was stagnant in the second quarter who built a 15-point lead here's wheatley flips a couple tackles earned some yards to the 28 Kirkus touchdown again yeah let's go back to the design of the play Mack is right here to tie it in he's gonna work across to the middle of the field which is actually gonna occupy the safety because I think the safety ends up biting on that so the safety takes himself out here and you're gonna have two defenders respond to to book and that's where Boyd kid ends up freeing up and being able to break free great recognition there by Ian book again mcLeese graduate student 241 career tackles coming in made the stop his great leader for this defense has been around and seen a lot a lot of good a lot of bad and that makes him a valuable commodity along with table coney in the middle of that defense tranquil mole vetti get married this summer after the proposal in Iceland Willis scampers straight ahead it'll be hit by Coney after a short game is third down again and now it's it's really getting urgent for this tech offense they gotta try to find more than likely Hazleton who's been kind of had the hot hand tonight with nine receptions try to see if they can get him when he's isolated he's down at the boundaries against Julian law of their top cover man I was trying to take away Willis's favorite target were their best dB they've rushed five Alyssa's going to look the other side down the field players Eric who is that big physical body to box out bride and the Hokies are Saratov pride never found the ball kuma does he does a good job the ball is way in the air underthrown a bit where a lot of times you'll see pass interference but instead he does a good job of working back to the ball you see pride look in Brian Kelly has a pretty good viewpoint of it but it by the time he realized the ball was thrown kuma had already adjusted back and made the catch and how crucial was that third down conversion for a tech team now down 15 the keeper Willis able to escape in ducts down for for Notre Dame Safety's coming in flying along with tranquil that time it was Gilman good job by Phyllis getting down avoiding that contact he's a big he's a big tough dude he was sacked 27 times in a season at Kansas and he's not afraid of contact but the wise decision to duck the head there laid hand off and people's into heavy traffic a short gain it'll set up another third down linebackers very active part of this scheme what they try to do is up front especially an interior try to eat up as many of those double teams linemen as they can and try to free up coney and tranquil all to make a lot of tackles one with Elliott and Gilman those safeties flying down to figure went to his thicket in two plays here you get the five yards yeah you would think so this getting close to the fourth quarter five men rushed and they flip it out the ball light was tipped on the way out and it's forth then let's see what the decision is I think Tillery maybe first time we've really called his name making a play ninety nine it's a good job looks like he got his hand on that so they don't go for it on fourth and five here comes Brad Byrne trying to pin the Irish deep not just about the sacks they haven't had a bunch of sacks but they have affected the quarterback pretty consistently tonight in a variety of ways Bradbrook doesn't get the right kind of spin and rolls into the end zone for a touchback go states bus here in Blacksburg Kurtis piloting into the Blue Ridge Mountains helping us keep track of all the mayhem which your Allstate may have moment today hi Nick Tate the Red River Rivalry today in Dallas mazing effort by the Texas Longhorns comes down to the last play of the game or last kick at a game and the Longhorns come up with a big upset over number 7 Oklahoma nikkor the kicker the true freshman there you go out there I see just like no big deal freshman snapper older and kicker Red River Rivalry that was a huge win for Tom Herman who has changed that culture and Austin they are a dangerous football team with a very tough quarterback I mean running free there was Claypool would like to have that one back yeah he had him broke free with like a busted coverage by Virginia Tech got him behind that coverage [Music] so the reason why that was a big win for Texas is because they almost collapse they were up 21 and it was looking like over time before the Longhorns drove down and keep the winner on the edge there mint is knocked down after a only no gain Reggie fluke stopped absurdum long our six of 11 third down tonight [Applause] get the band you get the pokey gobbler sound played out of the speaker's make things even tougher [Applause] quest off the edge squirrel in the corner it's fourth down they brought Quillin they also brought Dylan rivers with a slant to the defensive line slanting back into the field and that creates a two-on-one matchup in quillin's able to get there because they decided the back had to pick up rivers good call there by but foster took a gamble on third down and it pays off one bad snap tonight so far it a new cently has had three punts blocks in his career Hokies peel back and don't go for the block it's a line drive booth that is away and Cara Lee feels it at the 40 Jukes around spins is knocked down hard but tech will take over at midfield 21 seconds left in the third quarter which has been dominated by it Notre Dame get the McGregor fight reaction tonight on SportsCenter 138 and eastern time after the utah stanford game Bucci and stan furet like tipping all the ranked team is facing road test today ALDS game two tonight six one Yankees in Fenway bottom of the seventh they try to bounce back level that series against Boston it was spooky skies place to hit him and they hand it off and busting free mcLeese good run inside the 40 about that opened up we could keep talking about the linebackers in the middle and what a good job they're doing tonight at that time Virginia Tech got up to them and Coney actually came on a blitz was picked up nicely that time by Hoyt Gleason people's getting little something going on the ground being smothered by Dukes defense a week ago but Notre Dame in charge in the third quarter up 15 headed to the final 15 back to black spear ball to the Notre Dame 38 yard line both teams by the way had been outscored in the fourth quarter so far this season Willis could be a double pass guma caught it behind the line and took a look downfield then decides to just run for a couple you're exactly right Chris he was taking a peep did a blocker in front of him it tied in Dalton Keene he looks like he wanted to throw it remember Kirk since that even Philly we called three years ago best enough for the Halloween Fright Night Notre Dame has not had a win against ranked teams on the road they're 8 and 12 in the last 20 true road game so this is really trying to break a trend it's not just that melt down in Miami we've talked a lot about it's it's the failures against quality teams away from home but I think that's also what Brian Kelly is trying to get this program to grow I think it's to become a complete program being able to learn how to win away from the friendly confines southbend is a great home field advantage but you got to be able to take that passion and that energy when you go on the road and play better teams so I just went over all you and 12 it they're trying to start six and Oh for the first time since that team that played Alabama in the national title game the scoop and score caught up it could not come down in the field of play ball is thrown out of bounds but a lot of that has to do with truly in love pushing the receiver actually into that boundary did give him a chance took that cushioned away and forced him out of bounds here's a physical quick it's very dominant cover corner they're gonna bring Brian Johnson on for a very long field goal attempts Notre Dame's confused at about 15 guys on the field well they I think they didn't expect a long field goal so Brian Johnson longest attempted his career 53 Irish had 21 guys on the field before the timeout what check with Kataya but I think it's almost always caught by the officials when you do that so certainly public said I think they maybe they were caught off guard this is to cut it to 12 and it's a really long kick but he's got a really good leg I mean he just hammers that that misses it wide I mean the range is awesome for this guy but he's missed the last two long ones that the lead is still 15 confirmation from the officials hat cam he's miss to just there he hit it good just came out a little bit this year that's your analysis of its thanks to my client I mean they had a fourth and eighth he goes by that book that did the analytics book Justin Fuente does like I guess the book said if you got a kicker who could make it try to cut the lead but now the Irish go back to work after that exceptional third quarter this is a run all the way book just rolls right for three yards in book tonight 21 of 31 228 yards a touchdown the one interception got off to a quick start and the second half because of the nice run by Dexter Williams little dames offenses kind of settled back in second and seven book looks to the left wicked makes the catch and moving to tech territory one of the loudest leaders of mr. Tech defense Maria's really had a rough week emotionally ocean gains yeah you're right gains lost his mother on Monday and he actually told his team that he wanted to come back and play with them coaches left the decision completely up to him severe return to practice on Wednesday and he's basically been the leader down here still on the sidelines guys I mean he's the one amping up the entire defense talking to him he has his mother's initials underneath his eye black it starred Rahill iord and you can see this outstanding showing of support from Notre Dame a candle was lit and his mother's on earth at the grotto so you can see that both of these sidelines honoring the passing absolutely wonderful that Notre Dame fan did that and you could see he thanked them very much via tweet second and ten pinballing through heavy traffic as Williams leans lane D 7 yard touchdown run has been held in check on his other 12 rushes though pretty much and the Irish will try to just work on this clock urgency at this point trying to work the clock and also still keep their aggressive approach [Applause] books got it flips it in the flatlands the tight-end mac it's a another first down so those last two throws that he's had it that that's been what we have seen from this offense a lot of quick throws a lot of that as we I've been calling them kind of layups these last three weeks but they've been missing layups for the last couple years and now they're they're starting to hit those and it opens up everything else that they want to do in their running game and opens up chip long and how he wants to call the game as an offensive coordinator commit Mac between and the Titans have nine catches tonight Williams tries to balance this and he goes around a couple defenders and then lowers his shoulder and bangs for about four ladler forced him out now these two quarterbacks with interesting stories book taking over for Wimbush he's 23 of 33 a lot of short completions did have the one big down field play the one pick Willa's had a fumble that is be sharp that's our Pacific Life game summary which book it's a lot of the shortstops shortstops short stuff and then they'll take it kind of a double move and take a shot downfield but that short stuff is accurate and quick Avery Davis the sophomore from Texas into the game his first carry tonight and a physical run before Floyd stopped the middle he third down again they'll need about three quite the best thing that you could say about him in at quarterback has been how decisive he has been and and you have a decisive quarterback it kind of creates urgency within the entire offense sit down feel for Boyd gonna make the catch first and goal he beat Quillin and big six for bonny out of Pennsylvania and why overthink it he's six for you to kind of throw that fade up high back shoulder let wakin adjust back to the ball and most most college corners struggle to find that under thrown ball and locate the football to make a play on it while Boykin eyes it the whole way the first to go [Music] man open didn't see him ladler eventually makes the tackle and dexter williams is just kind of floating just after the fake he just was kind of following his fake looking around like nobody's on me if you if you throw it to me the wasn't considered in the pattern so but wasn't it was looking for number dunno but it's surprising he didn't see him I think that look for really honestly like a quarterback keep the whole hey Williams cuts it back and tackled inside the five yard line by Ashby third and goal coming up Williams has maybe the play of the night when Virginia Tech was getting back into the game had the crowd back into the game Notre Dame pinned back inside their own five he went 1970 ours changed the complexion of the game completely [Applause] they fake it to him slant touch the pitch and catch Boykin continues a monster night two touchdowns eight catches but the play fake gets two linebackers to suck in and that he's able to make that throw as you say that's that's easy that's that's that's the bet as easy as it could be for a quarterback thrown to one of his favorite targets and big target event with a huge catch radius he got to the inside of kin and kin didn't have a chance to make a play Matt Williams run you just talked about really the deflator for this tech defense they were in it down one at the break and Notre Dame now free touchdowns that's a 11 play 64 yard drive 21 zip Irish afternoons to make the playoff final they secure this lead and win tonight to get to six and oh is that the best second best no not the best Alabama's got 106 percent chance it I they have to lose two not to make it let's be honest Wheatly from the enzone trying to spark this hockey team with a big special teams play had a crease heart running I was only going by who Alabama still has to play I'm just a pair to Notre Dame still has to play top 10 teams to lose today Oklahoma and that wild frenetic highest-scoring Red River shootout ever these two top wins are bigger than just wins today they're great wins today but but what these two coaches are doing at those two programs it's it's starting to really look good in Austin and also Gainesville and the folks who had Auto ranked in the top ten don't look real smart and tigers lose for a second time Mississippi State big win willis deflected again the line they knocked me down it's not about the sacks they've affected him a lot and Justin Union congratulations he's all smiles because he has just set the Notre Dame career scoring record that p80 he jumped past Allen paycut the former Irish running back who set that record in 85 sit sit for 33 years until tonight nihlus taste again flips it into the flat the police makes the catch but it was slow to develop and he'll lose yardage third and long notre dame coming after him at this point the game and Tamir Jones a junior they're rotating a lot of different bodies up front Michinoku Cora out of the game see the guy who's played most consistent up there has been Khalid Kareem he's been all over the field Willis harassed again gets the ball out and cover it back it's a boy to make the catch it was not pretty pass but it was effective kind of fluttered up it it sure did he didn't really step into the throw because of the pressure it will sell back as he threw it just barely gets enough on it good job of concentrating there by Shawn Savoy obviously to come up with a catch and get enough yards for the first down that was a fastball that's the way couldn't just over Kony's hands - how did Coney miss that one extinct - player worked so hard on his coverage skills maybe not ready for this fastball it looked like it was right through his hands solid middle linebacker along with tranquil Hazleton runs in the tranquil who had come back to defend the perimeter you mentioned Notre Dame schedule you know what they have left if they're able to hold on to win this game tonight which looks pretty good where they go and who they still have to play and we talked all week about the possibility of this being a just a different year a different feel with Notre Dame and they haven't hurt themselves in any way tonight obviously Hazleton comes back to make the catch of the Hokies convert on third down again lay up two more home games they have Pittsburgh next week then I have a much needed bye week Navy will be played in San Diego at Northwestern Wildcats are danger they get a great quarterback there Florida State's starting looks like they're starting to show some life athletically anyway but that is in South Bend which would be tough play Syracuse in the cold and Yankee Stadium in November and then go to LA I think the two toughest games they have left to their last to Syracuse can score points they're not an easy team to defend USC always going to be athletic they're young freshman quarterback will be getting better by the end of the year plus will be so much pressure if they're still unbeaten sitting there at 11 and oh absolutely imagine SC which does not have the kind of year they hope to and then against a spoiled and there's 60 minutes away from securing a bid in the playoff they got to get through the Trojans who have nothing to lose they're trying to salvage their season maybe by trying to beat a team like Notre Dame who is unbeaten along one way to go but do you think Notre Dame has to be sitting there unbeaten without the course the championship game that I mean if you look at the top six teams I just it's hard to imagine teams coming from outside of the top six incomplete as we see out there and here right now yeah Brian Kelly because of the pig wins early in here they positioned himself to have a legitimate shot to run the table and B if they run the table they're sitting there at 12 and oh they're gonna be in the play on the resume would include of course that opening win over Michigan win at home against Stanford and now this top 25 Road win fourth and three Hokies need this to keep any sliver of Hope alive down by three touchdowns in a two-point conversion they will has some magic he is I would watch the Chiefs anytime they're on the field that guy playing quarterback they're fun to watch that made the Rams yeah I was disappointed by the outcome and the blown call knew like Guinea brat sure coach fourth and three Hokies need this and they flip it short two peoples who gets a first down are down inside the 20 so three touchdowns short gonna be the two-point conversion somewhere in there yeah playing man coverage and nobody picks people's up out of the backfield look like maybe drue tranquill got clawed out there with his eyes in the backfield peoples gets out into the flat nobody B picks him up and Virginia Tech still fightin they are but every second counts here they got to be quick and efficient try to get this in the end zone without wasting any more time the end zone Jalen Elliott got a hand on it Gilman was also there Elliott plan was so much more confidence this year last year just a little bit timid still kind of feeling his way transitioning from receiver to safety and that would have been a heck of a play Gilman came over ref cam here gives you a good look not only does Elliott have a chance Gilman also call most comes up with that interception boy Elliott the nice nice performance tonight in front of those 26 friends and families we about three hours away in Richmond neither delay to handoff hear people's knock down for a short gain you come back you play in your home state after leaving to go to Notre Dame and you the first time in your life and everybody can ho is here and he is showing up talked about both his parents being hokey graduates dad played here a school quarterback good athlete third name Willis another looping throw for the endzone jump ball touchdown Eric kuma and you're right Kirk oh you still are fighting here what a throw here Dante Vaughn who has good size is matched up against kuma so it's a great matchup but the ball is thrown actually further along back into that corner that I thought it might be could see that Vaughn does a good job of trying to get his hands out fully extended but Paul just gets over the top of it and kuma is able to focus in and come up with that big play there's a little look here shifting everybody around you're gonna choose to go for two here interesting let's go down by 16 liquor to see an onside kick and if if they're gonna they were gonna have to spend a timeout for the two-point conversion he didn't want to do that so they'll take the delay a game and now kick the p80 outfoxed himself don't need to go for to hear court out but there's the worst part is UPN - abusing the timeout because of the command thanks and two kickers in the game for tech stouts the regular kickoff guy Johnson is the field goal man interesting formation here as they spread the Irish all over the place it's Johnson to trust for the short hop the claypoole supplying special teams player on that hands team goes down and fields it go back to this last Drive he and pork was four of four for 43 yards and it was going back to what we saw really for motor Dame's offense quick decisions making good decisions to try to find the right matchups where Boykin makes a nice play and then the touchdown pass for the play-action draws the linebackers head of it very easy throw to the range he miles boy could for the touchdown so 538 is the Irish but a chew on the clock with this 15 point lead [Applause] shift the two Titans to the left Williams is back he's got it he cuts back in Dexter Williams the electric 97 yard run really changed this game around the third quarter almost got loose again 15 schools on one network a new place to call the ACC Network 61 yards seven and a half yards of Caring tonight because of that big run 147 yards and nine yards a carry yeah that big touchdown certainly skewed the average but him he's been good man he's a great compliment to what they're doing with book in the past again absolutely Williams again second touch tap tonight as heat high steps in see the thing is is he's physical it's not just about being quick and space he can run through some tackles and he's fresh do a good job with him just doesn't give up he just he's a guy that's running with desperation he has earned his way back to the good graces of these coaches and his teammates and that's why so many of these guys are so excited for him after what he's been through being suspended working his way back that's a great boy he used two words he's fresh again played the first forged and he is really hungry to make the most of every carry that he's got left this cm 31 yard touchdown run he's up to 178 and the all-time scorer and Notre Dame history now Yoon adds another point and extends the records opportunity everywhere with a guy in there right there then tanagers he's gonna have to console his buddy on the left oh yeah SEC fan little Kalam left was feeling pretty good there for a while her name has scored four touchdowns after halftime this is a strong statement is just a surviving on the road and a tough environment against a ranked team this is a statement you have to look at this turn of the year when you evaluate Notre Dame this is a strong performance after halftime they took Virginia Tech's best shot they went Tulane Stadium can be a tough atmosphere they cleaned up a lot of mistakes they made in the first hour now they're gonna have Justin Union not the regular kickoff guy booted off and he's so pumped up being the record holder that he drives it deep in the end zone Redskins Saints looking forward to this one in the Superdome Monday on ESPN drew Brees 200 yards away from Peyton Manning and that's gonna be electric in there they imagine that the emotion and the show supportive he gets those two hundred yards of pass this bait and all time passing in the Superdome the franchise he's meant so much credible how he just keeps going we always marvel at Tom Brady and his incredible career and sometimes people forget about Drew Brees and what he's done and it's great he's going to have center stage and get the notoriety he deserves one more time Willis hooks up to Hazleton and this is not gonna work out the way that Ryan Willis had dreamed about it he's played pretty well that was his 50th pass attempt and he's gonna another 300 yard game tonight I don't know we talked about the playoffs earlier Notre Dame they're gonna be in they're gonna run the table they're not I'm just telling you based on watching them this year and sing them into tonight it's a different feel of a Notre Dame team much more athletic just a just a much more complete team than we've seen in recent years where Notre Dame's been ranked up pretty high and then they ended up losing to somebody and a lot of times people say wow they weren't that good anyway this is a different team they're better at the defensive line they got leadership at linebacker gonna get better and better in the secondary we know what they can do now at the end book at quarterback Dexter Williams comes in gives them a fack this is his team's gonna be for real gonna be a challenge and what a monster came by Julian la vía the the scoop and score in the first half and the pick as he stepped in front of the receiver again he stairs this one down makes it easy for Julian love who's again we've talked all night about what we think about him as a cover corner great job of recognizing and just timing that perfectly to step in front of that he's come close tonight that one he timed up perfect comes up with a big pick that's the 17th time that Willis is target at Hazelton tonight so final it loves that nufs enough enough enough we're gonna we're gonna flush out that well the defense are good at all levels of the defense this book gives them something different here comes becomes Brandon Wimbush into the game the senior it was 13 and 3 as a starter before being replaced three games ago cebo flemeth's are one of the young backs he mentioned the impact of williams are gonna get Jaffar armstrong back healthy after the by Tony Jones heals up yeah Bush gives up a dimension to they can use him as a playmaker in different roles final respect for winbush in his era of quarterbacks and getting upset leaving obviously he's not happy to be a backup at this point but he's been nothing but classy about that to motion and has a really sharp approach to the game headed young man indeed and you need more than one quarterback these days in college football it's hard sometimes to do that a lot of guys decide to leave their Brandon Wimbush should everything we've heard from from the coaches they said he's been nothing the first class and he's not being a distraction or not pouting or anything like that which is great to hear [Applause] it's still flemeth sir in the backfield you use all the seconds on the play clock and wimbush on a keeper ducks back down 25 of 35 to 70 one had the one interception a couple of touchdowns Sallah performance against a disruptive defense in a very very tough environment I take issue with the red visor everything else about his game that's strictly it's just a backup quarterback right again a half you gotta have the visors me they can see you quarterback draw and when bushes spun down exactly was gonna put it back on top 10 rankings ala bama gave up 31 so that'll be a talking point for Nick Saban unacceptable yeah set to of the office was going to score 60 a game that'll be a tough week for them I blame it on the students it was a road game but I still think the student section was to blame there and all kidding aside Georgia goes to Baton Rouge got to be a big game next week for Georgia the and yo clemson has an NC State team yeah I mean into Death Valley that NC State a threat yep in this conference when Bush has still got it sort of ducks down at the 35 yard line so let's take a look at the remaining schedules of some of the top contending teams you get Bama Georgia Ohio State and Clemson in there you got family the big trip to LSU everybody's excited about with Georgia as I mentioned this week LSU won't that huge game in Jacksonville Kentucky on the road it really shows next to that you find out where Georgia is Ohio State that Purdue may be a little tricky and then Michigan end of the year and we really not even talking about conference championships you touched on the NC State game for Clemson still have to travel at Florida State that's kind of a rivalry game everybody everybody's got hurdles to overcome backup quarterback London hooker the redshirt freshman of the Greensboro in the game and it's dealing a Holston is that a couple of touches here late for the Hokies final minute and a half and Cassidy huh birth will be awaiting the studio the Ford wrap-up show to give you the scores and the highlights the three teams that fell today Colorado carrying the flag for the pac-12 is the unbeaten team I'm curious to see if you're gonna put the buffs in your top four if you're ready to make not quite not quite not quite get closer I'm happy to see your bus I always think about you and I do make the pick because I know how you add a chance to actually be out I'm not saying them I talked to them this week it anything to do with the win maybe a little bit journalism alum seminar along with Jay Roth I'm the producer of Monday Night Football fellow buff Jim Gray was on it was fine run around out here great beautiful area right always can't beat it you ever go fly-fishing out there I choose other outdoor activities oh yeah rod for you want to come out you're a hiker well Notre Dame all that offseason training we talked about at the beginning of the show they handled the chaos well executed well especially after Houston this is a very satisfying road we Brian Kelly huge win 2nd half really just dominating at 28 to 7 pulled away had some big plays especially from Dexter Williams with the big 97 yard run got to be satisfied remember he talked about all the work that they put in to be able to handle hostile environment visit it with the Navy SEALs all the work that they put in clearly pays off for Williams when they were backed up at the 3 yard line nursing a one-point lead he made the biggest play of the game that 97 yard run let's hear from the satisfied coach Kelly he's with Maria all right coach well it's a one-point game at halftime what changed we're more efficient obviously you know we're a little sloppy at times in the first half and we just said listen stop going outside of what you can do we were trying to do too many things and we just got back to doing what we're good at and I think we settled down a lot better we ran the ball we had the big run obviously off the goal line which got us a lot of momentum and a couple of big turnovers now you've been training for Kaos you wanted to see how your team would handle the challenge how would you rate their performance the environment quite well I don't think that was the issue at all in the first half we got off to a great start and again when you when you make plays you quiet the crowd down and I thought we did a great job with that this is the first major challenge for an book on the road coming into this environment what did you see from your quarterback it did a nice job you know we've led our offense we put 45 points on the board and you know we can play better but it's good to get him on the road get this first kind of you know test if you will cuz we're gonna have to play four on the road in November and now
