I love being exposed to genuine folk music from old cultures. It really shows the many different approaches to something as human as music. And how we all may be raised differently, there are common threads that connect us as people.

Some of my favorite traditional cultural bangers are a Jewish mens choir

a Bulgarian womens choir

Spotify songs for linking to artists that have other uploads (not the pan flute stuff). The Cree and Navajo have done amazing work preserving some of their older cultural traditions and language, not even considering the genocide.

"Smilin'" has a nice dose of english lyrics to get a feel for what the native lyrics are about and feel like. https://open.spotify.com/track/1EqZKBqzxzVQLTily6iY5k?si=L4DiQAXQR4Oh3tIExvUSIQ

Cooperative performances like this are very interesting. It's a very different experience to listen to the audio and watch the video, experience it live as an on looker, and participate. Being there in person and feeling the drum takes it to a whole different level.

Not my tribe, but I love my people. My dad was a drummer, and apparently all the ladies loved him and his braids haha I donโ€™t live on my reservation anymore, but Iโ€™m glad the people upload drumming sessions like these to YouTube. Letโ€™s me be back home again, even if it is only for a few minutes. Music and storytelling is healing for the soul. You get both in music like this.

Great to see some of my peopleโ€™s music being put out there. Always brings me back to my childhood

Dude at 2:52and 4:08 squeezes his throat to create some crazy harmonic whistle. It seems he's vocalizing a much lower note, but selecting to only project the high part. I've heard that sound but never known how it was created.

Wow! That was powerful and impressive. They began like a symphony tuning up, then as soon as they got into it, they played as one single unit.

I'd imagine each of these dudes feel the vibrations of this moment in their ears for a week or so, but in their souls a for a month or more.

Epic pitch!
