Jonathan Lee rich is investigate covering True Crime cases around the country and I am in the state of North Carolina and I was Googling around to find out unsolved crimes in the area so I can cover on this channel as as some of you might or might not know covering True Crime on this channel is what I do then I Googled the most dangerous place in North Carolina and a list of cities came up what do you think the most dangerous city in North Carolina is you'd probably think Charlotte Raleigh Durham Fayetteville North Carolina but it's not none of them the most dangerous city in North Carolina is Lumberton North Carolina this is an uh rope Vincent Robinson County right off of I-95 in the southern part of the state why is this place the most dangerous city in North Carolina well I've been doing a little digging it seems like the city at one point was starting to decline around 2000 2010 a lot of the manufacturing jobs started leaving the area so around 2016 they had a bunch of free weather storms lots and lots of rain they have the Lumber River here and then they had hurricane Matthew and then a couple years later they had hurricane Florence these hurricanes and these rains cost mass destruction in Lumberton the rivers overflowed there was levees there that broke kind of like a mini Katrina moment here in Lumberton a lot of residents displaced a lot of economic damage people losing all their property and their possessions and then covet hit in 2020. and that just made the problem even worse because they didn't necessarily rebuild from before so crime in the last few years have skyrocketed in Lumberton North Carolina Lumberton North Carolina there is there is this is like the most dangerous city in North Carolina 99 this is more dangerous than 99 of the cities in the United States of America here nice sign right check the stat nice sign now we're gonna go take a tour around Lumberton North Carolina let me see what's going on why is it so dangerous here it said property crime is outrageous here the murder rate keeps Rising it's violent what's going on here in Lumberton North Carolina I'm going to get in my vehicle and we're going to go for a drive and and Survey this area and I'll show you why we maybe try to figure out why Lumberton North Carolina is the most dangerous city in North Carolina um say a lot of the poverty poverty rate is up they also said that there was an issue with the CSX railroad line and the residents in reference to levees breaking there was some sort of legal big thing where the residents tried to Sue I think or try to take legal action against CX CSX which is the railroad line that's responsible for levees and whatnot I don't think anything came out of that Lumber River just overflowing with water so we're gonna go on a tour check this out okay so I am on I-95 entering Lumberton this is exit 20. I'm gonna get off at exit 20 and head down town now along I-95 there's lots of different hotels and businesses McDonald's Subway Waffle House Bojangles this would be South to 11. South to 11. gonna go East we're gonna see what's up we're gonna see why Lumberton North Carolina or try to figure out why Lumberton North Carolina is North Carolina's most dangerous city property crime through the roof well it doesn't look dangerous around here but we'll see what happens we'll see what's going on as soon as this light changes okay we're off headed on 211 South crossing over I-95 right in a moment for ourselves [Music] what makes Lumberton North Carolina the most dangerous place to live I'm gonna go down to Historic downtown see what's going on now so far it doesn't look bad we even have a Jersey Mike's [Music] [Music] this look dangerous to you Banks Hospital Fargo so they even have a mall over there now we're getting into Robinson County Robison Robinson it's 24th Street and Elm [Music] well there's a nice one there for that home nice homes here [Music] headed down towards the Lumber River so far I haven't seen nothing to indicate that it's dangerous around here these are nice homes look at a nice home and like 15th Street they say the area is south of the river is where a lot of damage occurred with flooding from these hurricanes Matthew and Florence and other freak rainstorms homes they're nice look nice to me but as we know some cities the historical districts and downtown districts are nice outside surrounding it that's bad welcome to downtown Lumberton all right let's see downtown Lumberton [Music] gonna go up here and then I'm going to make a right on 72 and cross over we're actually I'm going to I think 72 is around here it doesn't look bad does it [Music] why is this place the most dangerous [Music] the city in North Carolina no no so far [Music] foreign [Music] 's down here I'm gonna cross over to see what's going on the other side because they're saying south of 72. really bad I'm gonna see for ourselves as soon as this car Johnny's hot dogs [Music] we got here now we got down by the river Lumber River supposedly this flooded but now we're getting into believe the bad sections I'm gonna make a left because it's south of London Danger foreign [Music] housing [Music] sometimes known after the ghetto businesses not up looks like they're shut down it's like the ghetto [Music] [Music] subsidized how [Music] this is sometimes known as section eight houses [Music] I think this is known as Turner Terrace so so far this is so good I don't see anything bad have you [Music] been bad so far [Music] they all have that same look he's just brick [Music] so let's see what else we got going back on to Martin Luther King [Music] [Music] all these businesses shut down here every other business is bored at all look at this board at all pouring it up [Music] everything boarded up around here okay boarded up what makes this place so dangerous that's the question [Music] what's this place so dangerous it's right along the Lumber River [Music] [Music] unattended that one's all boarded up this house is all boarded up [Music] these homes are not even in existence it doesn't look like Maybe board it up board it up like that that's even though doors open furnace man that door is wide open and some heavy flooding back here got boards boards the area Knuckles Elementary School so it just looks like a lot of the community down here south of this River has not recovered or it's an extreme homes look like out of extreme poverty that's what it looks like [Music] it looks like a leaving town so so you could do your own history and research about Lumberton but I don't I'm gonna pull it up here I don't see it as my opinion like I don't see people roaming streets like that is it just because it's tough economic time and people this is the Dollar General the tough Economic Times and people are just doing property crying and stealing and drugs I mean the area does look run down south what we saw on the North side it looked pretty good our own research on Lumberton North Carolina I just wanted to show you kind of an idea what it looks like let me know what your thoughts are subscribe to my channel like hit the notification button and jlr investigates matter of fact I'll go I'll go back off because I have to go 70 back over to 95 we'll go over by 95. right along the river kind of see the area [Music] this is entering in going back North there's lots of neighborhoods to the left to even through maybe I should up here stuff is all shut down beauty salons it's all shut down old Barber Shop Gates looks like it's all shut down go up here and make a left and see can't get out there it looks like it's cool [Music] [Music] I'll board it up board it up this and limited these homes look at this nobody's even living there nobody's even living in this one it up just knock board it up like I said they had their like mini Katrine whoa another home right up here Ford it up there's a boarded up put it up Windows look at this board it up board it up [Music] abandoning the area there's still more homes that are boarded up there's another home right over here boarded up yeah it's bad down here South Side North Side you saw those beautiful homes probably higher elevation a lot of places around here the business there this is Martin Luther King foreign [Applause] foreign [Music] businesses bottom are not even up anymore car dealers are gone [Music] almost like The Tale of Two Cities like on the North side it doesn't look as bad so she hears the 72 here south whose neighborhoods it's where it looked really bad pawn shop 9.95 is right up here the railroad tracks again here's some Interstate 95 in the railroad tracks again there was some controversy over this railroad track I-95 shutting it down since West Lumberton Church [Music] looks like going back towards the commercialized area [Music] this is I got to see Lumberton what's your thoughts 95 now [Music] approach 95. so I want to hear your thoughts [Music] he's got something out of it maybe you did you see something that I haven't seen
