[Applause] the men's four by 100 final on the line right now can team usa keep it clean we know they're fast but they have to be good handoffs and i agree with this switch last time at the world championships christian coleman could not hold the lead for the united states they finished in second put the world's best starter to do the thing he does best start noah last has phenomenal top end speed put him to anchor the united states has the best chance they've had since 2007 to win but here are the defending champions great britain they passed the baton very well as well this is adam jamili narrowly missed the podium in the 200 didn't quite make the final in the 100 and he's got some unfinished business he was frustrated by missing a medal in the 200. final of the men's four by 100 usa is second from the right all in blue in lane and christian coleman has already caught china here's justin gatlin but he left a little early is the handover good yes gavilan goes to the lead the united states leads over china and great britain early on here's mike rogers the united states has one more pass to make but they are in the lead with the defending champions great britain giving chase he goes to niles is it clean you bet it is the united states is on its way here comes japan on the inside nobody's to catch nyla lyles or the usa they're world champions 37-11 noah lyles guides the united states to gold and it's an american record [Applause] that is how you get the ship riding [Applause] after 12 years coleman gatlin rogers and noah lyles break the american record and get the united states finally back on top of the 4x1 world these two young guys you are looking at the face now and the future face of usa sprinting for men on a global scale the world champions in 100 and 200 guide their team to a world championship in the men's relay how about that that's cleaning it up so i said yesterday sometimes you stick with personnel a little too long changing of personnel putting coleman on the right leg look at the difference christian coleman to justin gatlin to mike rogers to noah lyles so let's go around the track again with team usa remember they were out in lane eight that's christian coleman who did a number on these lead off legs you saw him start in the hundred he can start well on the turret as well look at him make up that stagger and that baton pass to justin gatlin was ten times better than it was in the semi-final the united states had the lead great britain was giving chase mike rogers had a much better leg than he had in the semi-finals as well look at japan coming to the picture on the inside one more pass no one lives has the baton in his hand and he's not gonna give that lead back as great britain and japan tried in vain to catch the new world champions there's that final exchange micro just screaming at noah lyles i think we can safely say get used to this because no one lies is going to anchor for the united states for the foreseeable future as he should sonny brown brought japan home to get bronze and for team great britain nathaniel mitchell blake guided the team to silva so great britain set a european record with their win and the united states only jamaica has run faster this is the number three all-time performance and here's the scene we saw in 2007 where the u.s men and women get to celebrate for the first time together and look justin gatlin this will be his last world championships he's going to retire after tokyo 2020 he goes out as a world relay champion and he was not on that 2007 team so this is justin gatlin's very first four by one gold medal and this has to feel good for mike rogers because they almost didn't get here with a mistake between him and anchor from a mistake to surviving a protest from two other nations to gold and world championship that's how the united states men did it and both the men and women meddle in these four by 100 relays all right it is absolutely a team usa affair the ladies are here celebrating the guys and now it's your moment christian what did you think when you were told that you were going to lead off this relay tonight i was just excited i came into it just optimistic like whatever let they need me to run i'm gonna give them my all um they told me i was on first leg so my job was to get us a good lead hand it out to these guys and i knew they'll take care of business justin for you what was it like now to get the stick you barn storm down the back stretch and then you got a chance to celebrate with the ladies together on the track that was after it was all over oh man this is my first actually my first goal in a major championship in a relay so you know we had a meeting earlier earlier today and you know the team was like hey let's just bring this gold home and i'm happy these guys everyone did their job and they did it to the best of the abilities and we broke american record i'm so happy these guys mike you've been a part of ups and downs and now you're back up tonight what does it mean over your career to be able to come around that curve have the stick hand off just perfectly and now stand here as a world champion hey you just gotta it's all about trial and error uh sometimes you mess up somebody gotta own up to your mistakes but as a team we corrected it this morning we got here today got the american record gold second fastest time ever i believe so we're happy with our performance tonight and when you handed it off to noah and you saw that he was gone what does that feel like i just told him it was over it was over after that yeah noah listen give us a sense of the honor of getting the stick last to bring it across for the united states what was that moment like i've been watching uh world championships for quite some years and i've watched previous ones with my dad being on a lot of teams and wow does it feel good to break a curse you know i think i saw 2016 when they were showing the videos and everybody had to pay for a moment having to watch all those mess-ups and it's nice to say now that we ended that and we we definitely about to step up you know we have the insurgents of dominance and we're going to keep that going all right so you guys are proud of the guys here everybody happy yeah everybody else all righty congratulations on your moment world champions men and women thank you you
