you know what dr street who is no stranger to us he's going to come on and share with us the do's the don'ts the perks the advantages the disadvantages of exercise could there be disadvantages anyway well he's going to share with us this afternoon all about that please stay tuned to dr douglas street medical doctor who will share his knowledge with us on exercise okay sir good evening my name is dr douglas street and just want to remind you that good health practices are not just useful in preventing illnesses it can be used to correct certain illnesses as well and it is on this basis that um that the jamaica union is going to be launching a program during this month called the i want to live healthy initiative and it aims to encourage different health practices that have been well known to the church and have been known to bring about health benefits now i want to focus on one aspect of this of this program to show you some of the benefits that it can bring for you now today i want to speak about um exercise now what is exercise exercise is uh it is a activity which involves some amount of physical exertion that is done for the purpose of health or fitness so if you have to walk a mile to to go to your to your bus stop that is not considered as technically speaking has been exercised it is only if it is done for a health benefit now why is exercise so important exercise gives many benefits it improves your mood it can improve your sleep if done at certain times it can also improve your sex life it can improve your weight management as well so it has a number of different benefits now how does it bring about these different benefits exercise reduces inflammation inside of your body and this is a very important concept to understand now how does it do that what has been what research has found is that the contraction of the muscles that take place during exercise they do release certain substances into the body which are anti-inflammatory which bring about these benefits it has also been found that exercise improves on the the balance of your intestinal bacteria and this also helps reduce inflammation inside of your body so because after reducing inflammation exercise can reduce the risk of chronic illnesses um including diabetes hypertension and even arthritis so you might find it surprising exercise can improve arthritis yes it has been found that it does that and persons who exercise on a regular basis they do see improvements even in arthritis as well now what are the different types of exercises that are available there are different categories of exercise and the first one to speak to you about is aerobic or endurance exercise and this type of exercise increases the heart rate and breathing and this includes things like cycling walking jogging playing tennis playing football dancing these are the endurance or or aerobic types of exercise you also have um strengthening exercises um and and and these include um like fast running weight training and high intensity workout and this is formed under category of anaerobic exercise you also have in this category balance exercise and this helps to maintain your balance especially as you get older our ability to maintain our balance may be lost so this is something that you should start doing early so you can so your body can strengthen this aspect of its capacity balance exercise and this can be done by standing for a long period of time on one on one leg one or the other you can also do it by working on a rope or on a narrow wall this helps you to maintain your balance there is also um and there's doing strength exercises you could use your own body weight or you can use free weights to improve your strength and strength exercises helps to improve the firmness of your muscles the size and also the strength you will also have what called flexibility exercise and this stretches your your muscles your joints and your ligaments and this makes you i said more flexible and and this is also a very important part of exercise now a good exercise workout should really combine all the different elements of exercise to ensure that you you get a proper work out now aerobic exercise can be um classified into three different categories which is low moderate and high intensity exercise now um how do you classify the intensity it is based on your maximal heart rate what how do you get your maximal heart rate this is obtained by by subtracting your weight from 220. so for example if you are 40 years old then your maximal heart rate is 180. now why is important the intensity of exercise is based on that no you have low intensity exercise and this includes activities like walking now walking should carry your heart rate up to between 40 to 50 percent of your maximal heart rate right but during during low intensity exercise you you should be able to breathe comfortably and you should also be able to have a conversation the intensity of your exercise should be regulated in that level and the duration should you really be about an hour and this should be done between five to six times weekly right then you have what we call the moderate intensity exercise and this should bring your your max bring your heart rate up to about 50 to 70 percent of your maximal heart rate and these include exercises like jogging for example or it may be cycling and this should be done for about 40 to 30 to 40 minutes about four times weekly during moderate intensity exercise you should be able to have incomplete sentences so you shouldn't be able to complete a sentence if you're doing moderate intensity exercise um and your breathing will be noticeably increased you also have what we call high intensity exercise and this should bring your heart rate up to between 70 to 85 percent of your maximal heart rate in during high intensity exercise your breathing should be fast and you should only be able to speak a few words at a time high intensity exercise should be done between should be done up to about 20 minutes um per session and this should be done about three times per week so you'll notice that the the more um intense your exercise is the shorter the duration of time should be and also the less number of times per week it should be done but what we recommend what research has found is that um is that you should vary the intensity of your exercise throughout your exercise um activity so you should vary the types of exercise and also vary the intensity of exercise for example if you are jogging then you should you should run fast sometimes slow down to properly a walk speed speed up the the walking and up to running faster well and then slow down again this is how you should exercise and also do these stretching exercises and strength exercises those are also important to be done during your exercise routine now i want to highlight to you um that uh you know in times past i used to recommend that we do cycling and and and walking and jogging as a primary source of exercise but what research has found is that exercise is best done as a group so so games are actually very very very uh you know important and effective in giving the benefits of exercise what has been found is that if compared to a person when you compare the different types of exercise for example you should compare cycling and walking and jogging compared with playing tennis or playing badminton the improvement in your life expectancy is much greater with the tennis and the badminton than with the cycling cycling and walking and so on improve your life expectancy by less than three years as opposed to tennis improve improves your life expectancy by as much as nine years badminton by as much as six years so we find that exercises that improve that that involve phone activity and interaction with other persons are more are more beneficial to your health than those that are done alone another thing that has been found is that uh even if you if your if your work involves um you know activity physical activity if you if you believe that this activity is exercised then it will you will get the benefits of exercise but if you do not if you are not considering that this activity is exercised then you will not get benefit of exercise what this is saying is that your mindset is very very important when exercising which is why the fun activities are so beneficial to you also it has been found that it is this is beneficial for you to keep moving throughout your day it you get more benefits of exercise when when you do that persons who um who keep moving throughout the day as well as have an ex of an exercise routine have been shown to to have a 15 additional benefit than those who exercise and then sit all day so it's important to keep moving all the day it's also important to exercise to use moderation when exercising over exercise can be harmful so for example if you are doing exercise for more than an hour per day it can harm you and that's why you find that some athletes suffer health problems because they typically over exercise timing is also important and for some persons um for some person exercises in the morning is a better time it improves on the benefits including including sleep so i want to encourage you to exercise and achieve sure you you you vary your exercises you vary the intensity get it done regularly and ensure that you have the right mindset because doing this you get the most benefit hope you have a wonderful evening and we'll see you again soon you take care you can't be god's deterioration no expiration no deterioration no expiration turn your bibles everybody to the book of psalms psalm 19 psalm 19 and we read from verse 7 the law of the lord is perfect converting the soul the testimony of the lord is sure making wise the simple the statues of the lord are right rejoice in the heart the commandment of the lord is pure enlightening the eyes the fear of the lord is clean enduring forever the judgments of the lord are true and righteous all together listen to this more to be desired are they then gold yey than much fine gold sweeter also than the honey and the honeycomb what a word from the lord this evening the psalmist truly is saying that the commandments of the lord the laws of god the testimonies of god are to be truly desired than gold they are sweeter than honey and the honeycomb and now you understand our subject no deterioration no expiration gold as the psalmist is saying that the commandments of god are to be desired even more gold is a chemical element its chemical symbol is a you its atomic number is 79. gold compared to other metals is less chemically reactive it is a good conductor of electricity and heat gold is malleable which means it is easy to be beaten into sheets or other shapes especially when heated gold is said to be a noble metal it is relatively unreactive and it is and it resists degradation degradation by ear or moisture or even acidic conditions in other words gold is not easily deteriorated gold can not be deteriorated gold is able to keep its metal component gold can only be dissolved by some man made acid mixture so gold can be compared to a metal to a chemical element that is not easily deteriorated throughout history gold has often been seen as a symbol of wealth there is a monetary system called the gold standard which fix a unit of money to a certain weight of gold gold is a popular choice when it comes on to rewarding achievements with medals or statues or trophies academic award olympic and nobel prize winners all receive golden items in recognition of the achievement gold is seen as that chemical element with highest value and david compares the commandments of the lord that they should be more desirable than gold and if gold cannot be deteriorated then the commandments of god according to psalm cannot be deteriorated or cannot deteriorate then he compares it the commandments to honey honey honey is 80 sugar 20 water i listen it's fascinating how bees are busy when it comes on to making honey to make one pound of honey the bees in the colony must visit two million flowers just to make one pound of honey bees will fly over 55 000 miles and will be that will be the lifetime work of approximately 768 bees just to make one pound of honey a single honeybee will only produce approximately a teaspoon and a half of honey in her lifetime honey is the only food that includes all the substance necessary to sustain life including water honey is medicinal because honey has been prescribed for medicinal treatment way back into the ancient mesopotamia time period because the substance in honey is so inhospitable to bacteria it is often used as a natural bondage to protect cuts and burns from infection today honey is still used as a natural treatment for dandruff and stomach ulcers and even even seasonal allergies honey has medicinal values but the thing that i took note most about honey and why why the the psalmist would even compare honey with the commandments of god not just for its sweetness but here this church honey is the only food known to have an eternal shelf life honey cannot be spoiled honey cannot spoil honey can never spoil it has an eternal shelf life there is no expiration date for honey as a matter of fact it is said that honey has been found in the tombs of the pharaohs dating hundreds of years and it is still palatable i say to you church i say to you viewers i say to you listeners david says that the the commandments of god are to be desired more than gold they cannot expire they are sweeter than honey in the honeycomb there is no expiration date when it comes on to the commandments of the lord when it comes unto the law of god they stand forever they cannot deteriorate they are more than gold they cannot expire they are sweeter than honey no deterioration no expiration but i tell you friends they are there's a system that is in place that is determined to change the law of god as a matter of fact friends the devil's work is to discredit the character of god and you may say pastor williams why is it that the seventh-day adventist church focused a lot on the commandments focus a lot on the sabbath because church that is the croaks of the matter that's where the devil tries to distraught or destroy god's character god's commandment that the whole matter of the great controversy is between christ and satan and the essence thereof is worship and if individuals want to be honest most of christendom if not all of christendom has no problem with the commandments of the lord no problem with the commandments of the lord as a matter of fact most christian denominations enhances the ten commandments commandments accepting one and that has to do with the seventh day sabbath all other nine commandments most christians today have no problem but when it comes on to the seventh day sabbath a number of individuals have a challenge they don't seek to change any other is only the fourth commandment that asks us to remember the sabbath day to keep it holy but if all ten commandments can keep their value like gold if all ten commandments cannot be expired like honey if all ten commandments are like better than gold or sweeter than honey then the sabbath cannot be expired the sabbath cannot deteriorate but let me take you and i know but the number of you watching can substantiate what i'm saying and evil if this message is a reminder let let us remind ourselves and let us tell the world again that the sabbath of the lord remains from everlasting to everlasting there is no serious student of scripture who can deny that god instituted the sabbath of creation it is undeniable and god designated the sabbath to be kept holy genesis chapter 2 verses 2 and 3 and this on the seventh day god ended his work which he has made and he rested on the seventh day from all his works which he has made and god bless the seventh day sanctified it because that in it he had rested from all his works which he has created and made god bless the sabbath god hollowed it it is to be desired than gold it it cannot deteriorate it is sweeter than honey it has no expiration date it is from everlasting it is from creation it is it will be to recreation no expiration date and then in exodus chapter 20 god made sure that the commandments were codified and given to moses written by the finger of god written by the hand of god not by moses but by god himself god's own hands finger and grave the commandments including the sabbath in tables of stone and gave it to the people but god's desire ultimate desire is not that his commandments must be on tables of stone but that his commandments must be written in our hearts that wherever we go we will not sin against him and this commandments written in our hearts including the seventh day sabbath has no expiration day but then church let us ask why is it that everyone today is not worshiping on the seventh day of the sabbath why is it that all christendom today does not worship on the seventh day sabbath why is it that most of christendom is worshipping today on sunday why when god said remember the sabbath day when god said seventh day is the sovereign of the lord why is it that christendom moses of christendom today is worshiping on sunday because it is a devil's plan it is the devil's plan to counterfeit god's holy day of rest there is absolutely no support in scripture for the worship of god on another day than his holy sabbath day there is no support in the word of god none in the old testament none in the new testament to support the observance of sunday as a day of worship there is nothing in the word of god as a matter of fact friends the apostles did not institute sunday as a day of worship if if if the apostles did that then it would there would be a great controversy between the apostles and the jews and there is nothing written in history sacred history our secular history there is not no such statement in history there was ever a controversy over the day of worship at the time of the apostles hear me somebody yes we have the controversy yes we have the objection of the jews several times when jesus healed on the sabbath several times when jesus did something good on the sabbath the jews the pharisees and the scribes rose up against him for doing good on the savage so if the disciples had worship on any other day than on the sabbath it would be the greatest controversy in the apostles period but there is no such written in scripture for those who follow history you will find that sunday observance certainly came into the worship service of god's people sunday subtly raise its head as a matter of fact by the time around 300 a.d from a.d 34 to 80 100 the church as written in revelation as the white horse the church was pure in doctrine and worship and practice the bible calls it the period of the white horse the church was pure in its doctrine the church was pure in his worship the bible said they had love for each other and they share everything in common but by the time [Music] the roman government after the first 300 years a.d roman government made the worship christianity illegal christianity became an illegal religion and the roman government when the jews rioted against the roman government the roman government started to oppress the jews and because christianity became illegal a lot of christians adopted the jewish way of worship identify themselves as jews many christians identify themselves as jews but when the roman government started to oppress the jews many of the christians then did not want to no longer associate themselves with the jews and so by the time early in the second century distance themselves from judaism and start to observe a different day thus blending in with society because the romans worship on sunday because they see it as the day of the highest god the day of the sun so christians in order to blend in with society started to worship some of them according to the roman custom but praise be to god there are those in god's church who were determined persecution or no persecution illegal are not they are going to stand up for the truth of god's word whether they were seen as doing it according to the law or not according to the law of the land they were going to stand up for the truth of god's word hear me somebody this evening sunday as a day of worship was never instituted by christ was never instituted by the disciples was never accepted by the disciples of jesus christ constantine emperor of rome made sunday a civil day of rest in 313 a.d he legalized christianity and made the first sunday keeping law his infamous sunday enforcement law of march 7 18 31 reads on the venerable day of the sun let the magistrates and the people residing in cities rest and let all workshops be closed on the venerable day not of god but on the venerable day of the sun which is sunday he's saying that every shop should be closed every workplace should be closed but that was not god's stipulation that is men's stipulation that is constantine stipulation but god's stipulation remains like honey cannot expire sunday law was officially confirmed by the roman papacy and the council of leodisia a.d 364 and the decree was christians should not judaize and be idle on saturday but shall work on that day but the lord's day they shall especially honor and as being christians shall if possible do no work on that day if however they are found judaizing they shall be sought out for christ hear me friends but sunday was made as a national law in ad 364 and it is saying that the the the the christians must work on saturday but must not do any work on sunday that is man stipulation that is not god's stipulation i must tell you that cardinal gibbons in faith of our fathers 92nd edition page 89 and you know this cardinal gibbons admits you may read the bible from genesis to revelation and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of sunday that's cardinal gibbons speaking the scriptures enforce the religious observance of saturday a day which we the catholic church never sanctified cardinal gibbon is saying search the scriptures from genesis to revelation you will never find a word a verse sanctifying sunday as a day of worship no you will never find that he continues again the catholic church by virtue of her divine mission changed the day from saturday to sunday and this is in the catholic mirror official publications of james cardinal gibbons he's saying it is a catholic church that changes the the the day from saturday to sunday but try as it may no system on earth can change god's ten commandments because they are sweeter than honey and honey cannot expire in the sunday visitor of february 5 1950 protestants do not realize that by observing sunday they accept the authority of the spokesperson of the church the pope h.f thomas chancellor of cardinal gibbons said of course the catholic church claims that the chains saturday to sunday was her act and the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things what this is saying is that the church has the power to change the law the church has the power to change the day of worship but brothers and sisters wherever you are listening from not negotia he continues in the catholic record of london september 1 1923 sunday is our mark of authority the church is above the bible have mercy the church is above the bible this and this transference of sabbath observance is a proof of that fact that the church is above the bible there is no institution on earth that is above the bible the bible is a word of god the bible defends the character of god and nothing and no one can change the commandments of the lord and by the way by the way i'm not bashing a church i'm not any religious leader i'm just speaking the truth of god's word i'm just telling you as it is the devil doesn't like it but the truth will stand and it is only the truth that can set you free and somebody needs to say amen what i'm saying to you friends is that the sabbath remains the sabbath remains the seventh day of the of the week nobody can change that no system can change it no man can change it god and i must tell you this friends ha hi oh this is a serious one not even god himself can change it because if god changes god will have to change himself and god cannot change i know it's a serious statement i know it's a serious statement but not even god will change his sabbath because god cannot change are you hearing me somebody so no man can change it it's a serious statement but guess what the bible predicted that this would have happened the bible predicted that this would have happened in daniel chapter 7 and verse 25 daniel tells us that there's a thing to change times and law he shall speak great words against the most high and shall wear out the saints of the most high and shut and think to change times and laws this is prophecy and the prophecy is indeed a fulfillment upon the papacy the papacy is a fulfillment of this prophecy shall speak great words against the most high shall speak against god and the church the church believes that its leaders are infallible and infallibility belongs to god the the the church leaders the pope believes and profess that they can forgive sins and no man can forgive sin only jesus christ can forgive sins this belongs to god as a matter of fact the pope believes that he can open and shut heaven but this belongs to god they they go beyond god in prison in in in insane they can do so many things they are above kings they they believe that they can sell and give indulgences for sin this is blasphemous church only god can forgive sin and the church claims and so many individuals right around the world go on a daily father in a daily basis bowing down before man bless me father for i have sinned we don't have to confess our sins to man we have a priesthood of believers we can come baldly to the throne of god we can bow down on our knees and pray to almighty god and god will hear god will hear god will forgive our sins there is only one mediator between man and god and it is a man christ jesus he is our mediator he is our burdened bearer the catholic church bible says that they shall wear out the saints by wars and crusades and massacres and inquisitions and persecution men like john huss jerome stood up against the powers of the church stood up against the authority of the church martin luther stood up against the doctrines of his church when he discovered that it's not righteousness by works it is not righteousness by indulgence it is righteousness by faith and faith alone in jesus christ nailed his 95 faces on the door of the church and stood up for the truth of god's word and the church persecuted them the walden seas and others who the church persecuted because they stood up for the righteousness and for the word of god and they shall think to change times and laws the appointment of feasts and festivals as a matter of fact in the in in the catholic church the canonized persons make them into saints and you can pray to these saints and these saints will work miracles for you hear me somebody the only 15 and verse 9. and in vain they worship me teaching us doctrine the commandments of men men will try to change the sabbath but they will only try to change it cannot change because it stands forever who change the sabbath to sunday it has not changed it cannot change because in vain they do worship me teaching for doctrines the commandments of men to the law and to the testimony isaiah 8 and verse 20 if they speak not according to this word it is because there is no light in them or friends today in the roman church seeks to answer the question prove to me from the bible alone that i am bound to keep sunday holy and it is said there is no such law in the bible it is a law of the catholic alone the catholic church says by divine power i abolish the sabbath day and command you to keep the first day of the week and lo the entire civilized world bowed down in reverent obedience to the commandment of the holy catholic church that is thomas and wright president of the redemptorist college roman catholic kansas city february 18 1884 he's saying that the catholic church is the one seemed to change the sabbath to sunday and the whole world seems to bow down to the church but i will answer you this question who changed the sabbath to sunday no one because it cannot be changed but who then institute sunder worship the catholic church it is said in one of their writings a pope has power to change times and lords and to dispense with all things even the precepts of christ the pope has authority and has often exercised it to dispense with the command of christ friends it is written in history but that's a lie i close this sermon by answering the question who changed the sabbath to sunday no one because it cannot change who thinks to change it who has instituted another day of worship yes it is the catholic church but they can only think to change times and law but i like how the donorways put my sermon in song it the song is entitled his word is written in stone and because they cannot depreciate they are to be desire more than gold they cannot include in the savage expire because they are sweeter than honey and the honeycomb tonight friends this evening the truth of god's word has come to your heart the sabbath is still the seventh day of the week the sabbath is still saturday the bible the biblical day of worship created by god is still saturday it's still the seventh day sunday cannot be substituted for god not insulting anyone i'm just telling you the truth of god's word sunday was never ordained by god for a day of worship sunday was never instituted by god it was by man will you stand up now and stand for god stand for the truth of his word i told you that i was never born a seventh-day adventist i became a seventh-day adventist when i followed my mother to a crusade and the very first night the preacher preached on the sabbath i took down the text and the next day i could not wait for the day to dawn i went to my holiness pastor and asked him to explain those texts and he turned to me with an honest heart and he says son if you should follow the bible saturday is the sabbath but if you should follow tradition sunday it's a day of worship well friends you have the choice are you going to follow the bible are you going to follow tradition it is your choice but if i were you i would follow the word of god your conscience let it be your guide our father in heaven we're so thankful that your commandments are more to be desired than gold they have special value they will not deteriorate lord we are thankful that your commandments are sweeter than honey and the honeycomb it has are the new trends for our survival it cannot spoil thankful lord that your commandments cannot expire your commandments do not have an expiration date from from everlasting to everlasting your commandments remain the same because you remain the same father there are those who may find this message very cutting but in the name of jesus i ask that someone know will remove pride someone will remove self someone will put away tradition and we'll have the courage to stand up for the truth of your word oh lord many will doubt this message lead them always to the truth of your word many will accept wholeheartedly i pray god that you will lead them to a full surrender of their lives to you when they can truly obey your ten commandments including keeping the sabbath holy let not the devil discourage people but through the holy spirit will you open now the hearts the minds of your people for already acceptance of your
