to something different however if you're interested the animated portions of this video were done by the creative team behind end town and I really suggest you get on the look after this presentation for the rest of you night in the woods save my life and here's how [Music] [Music] so it's hard to explain the impact this game has had on my life I could show you these tattoos they inked on my arm to remind me of the messages this game instilled into me to help me get through the darker times I have on the day-to-day basis or I could be boring and I could just say what everyone else has already said it's a damn good game created by a talented group of people I however don't want to leave it at that I think I can say something new here and I think I has something to do with this game's ability to relate to a certain subset of people like myself as someone who suffers from chronic anxiety I can for sure say that ix woods is a game about anxiety and the pitfalls that comes with that sometimes it's anxiety about the past and the very stupid decisions you can make on a day to day basis or sometimes it's just based on the prison and what you're doing now and what you're not doing and what you think you should be doing and how you screw that up probably and finally it can be about anxiety about the future and where you're going or rather where you're stagnating these themes are ever-present throughout the entire game and it's why it struck an emotional chord with me it's really hard to explain my fascination with this game which is likely why this video took way too long to be produced as always that said being able to see that someone can empathize with something I struggle with on a day-to-day basis and physically see that portrayed in media I don't know that that makes me feel at home and helps me work through some of my own lingering issues that said this is 9/2 woods and let me dig right into that in night in the woods you play as may Borowski a cat who's recently dropped out of college for seemingly no reason to come back home it's penny years since she left to go to college and everyone remembers that time she vomited on another kid during prom when she fell on a trash can and got into some humor shenanigans with yet more vomit and also that time when she nearly beat a kid to death of a baseball bat due to a psychotic episode the game sets a stone perfectly when you start at a train station and it turns out May's parents forgot to pick her up leaving you with the task to trek through the woods I'll need to get detained by a police officer at the end of the session during this trek Mae has a lot of observational quips about the setting but the coolest thing about this game something that may be considered insignificant or just quirky by many other reviewers is this journal basically Mae is not your avatar she's an actual character and what she writes down in her notebook is her actual thoughts and feelings on a given situation of course everything is tinted by her own perspective without this context being left at the train station would be easily overlooked by the player this is the first entry in your notebook in the game itself when you confront your father on this you only have the option to say it's fine or a slightly possibly more passive-aggressive okay or something of that effect but when you looked at this inked blurb on this page you get everything you need to know she feels abandoned and that feeling of abandonment actually kind of hurts badly also I should mention that once you get later into the game you get more images based on the things you've done and what you're able to accomplish and it's kind of cute as hell to flip through these pages and study them more intact after this point in the game once you wake up for the first time in may's attic bedroom you get to begin chapter 1 proper which to explain simply is just a day-by-day play of may's life you wake up trek through town talk to maze friends get her broken laptop fixed due to all the porn she apparently watches play a band practice oh and also poke a severed arm with a stick if you want you can also attend other random events that also change depending on the day for example you see this old teacher character on a roof here who is there some days but not every day so whenever you see them you know to jump up there and actually get the chance to look at the Stars and learn more about the game's lore or perhaps you could hang out with Jeremy or Lori these two fun characters I'm not gonna get into now because this video is already way too long or sometimes I just like to go up here talk to this guy and piss them off because I find it funny these events usually include some quirky minigame that is supposed to represent a regular activity like eating pizza carrying something heavy up the stairs to the sound of a rhythm game or just looking at stars and learning about lore these random events and size stories carry on throughout the game building upon one another to create some sort of actual story arc outside of the actual main story involving may you can really see these other side characters get fleshed-out grow up and deal with admittedly adult issues which in the end helps the world feel more alive it makes it feel lived in and adds a sense of time and scale to the town of pots of Springs one of my favorite side stories is this cool one involving a character called pastor Kate and a homeless man named Bruce basically Bruce's this old coal miner fella he lost his job when everything dried up and the town started to die again he left but came back to town around the same time Pastor Kate got hired as a new headed to church on the other hand Pastor Kate wants to help Bruce her first attempt at this is to desperately try to convince the town council to approve of Bruce moving into the church so he doesn't the stay outside all the time but they are understandably hesitant on filling the church full of homeless people the population of possum Springs is dwindling as it is and this much is made very evident to the player as you play the game having to Church turned into a homeless shelter is likely gonna turn more people away because I mean who wants a religious center full of homeless individuals even after church hours that said Bruce is very hesitant on even accepting the gift in the first place and he seems very uncomfortable with the idea of taking shelter within this church in the end without warning Bruce informs made that he's leaving but not to tell pastor Kate until the deed has been done he's grateful for all that she's dead and really appreciates her as a person but he spent most of his life missing out on the most important things about life he's gonna go back to see his family his kids he's gonna try to get his act together and do something with the last years that he has left Kate upon learning this appears to be less than enthusiastic it seems that she's developed an attachment to the man and feel sad that even though she's tried her best prayed in God and had faith in all the right hours nothing went well for her she wasn't able to help him and in the end the only person who was able to help him was himself but maybe it's just me but if I was in that position I'd feel a little Hollow - and the fact that this whole side story takes the entirety of the game to play out in full really makes it feel very special if you take the time and actually go through it and on top of that there are many other side stories just like that which I won't spoil in this video honestly I'd mark the end of the quote-unquote tutorial zone with the party scene basically your longtime best friend Greg this adorable-looking fox dog thing want you to convince be a alligator who's had a chip on her shoulder ever since you came back to town to drive everybody to this party in the woods the only problem with this plan is that B seems to have some sort of issue of May every time they talk B seems to start getting standoffish aggressive and kind of angry in the night before this one you actually get kicked out of B's car after she agrees to drive you home because the aforementioned severed arm has put everyone into high alert there's this awkward anxiety and tension that plays as you go into the old pickaxe ask B to drive everybody she of course agrees to do so however she is nothing if not passive-aggressive about it once Mae arrives at the party she kind of learns that she's a bit of a third wheel here if you try to talk to B she thinks of any excuse to make you go away even if it's not very subtle usually just saying I'm not talking to you right now or a towaway if you try to talk to Greg he's hanging out with his boyfriend Angus who is this adorable looking bear character with glasses I absolutely love his design nonetheless every time you talk to them they seem to be quite comfortable in their own little corner there is one character you can talk to however his name is Cole this character that made a date back in her high school life and vomited on during prom basically a lot of awkward teen awkward stuff when you talk to him you learned that he's in college right now he's doing just fine and even has another girlfriend which does nothing but make me feel inadequate uncomfortable and like her own life is a failure that's not going anywhere however due to Mays own chronic anxiety she ends up being rude to the dude even though he's done honestly nothing wrong eventually Cole comes to talk to you and say that he's sorry for making uncomfortable and that he wishes the best for you however at this point may has been drinking all night and because of all these other feelings welling up inside of her abandonment anxiety and all these just awful ugly emotions they finally bubbled to the surface causing her to make a drunken rant and eventually vomit basically everything from mental illness to chronic anxiety in the forms just about every decision makes it's why she left college it's why she came home to find some sort of grounding and when that grounding started to fall from under her that's when the nightmares start happening especially when things start going more tits up I won't lie I relate to this character quite a bit I'm a high school dropout myself and a lot of this is very relatable to me I know a lot of people won't be able to a lot of people see me as this troubled individual who's honestly a bad person but I see a lot of myself in the character don't get me wrong may borrow ski is actually kind of a bad person maybe that reflects badly on me too I tried the whole schooling thing and honestly if I could go back with the self-confidence I have now I probably would have been able to finish it however between being a general social outcast moving a lot from school to school unable to maintain any sort of usual friend group and the school's insistence on making sure that everybody in the whole district knows about the fact that I have autism basically this led to me becoming kid repellant if kids did talk to me is because they're doing community service by hanging out with the autistic dude because they have problems in social situations or they were someone who had actual issues that ran far deeper than mine and in this situation while I can empathize I simply cannot relate with those individuals which led me feeling alone and miserable during my schooling experience eventually I actually started reading creepypastas during this time when I was only 16 years old and that led to kids finding my youtube channel and that's how I got a huge spotlight on me as some kids actually didn't believe that I did the whole YouTube thing because how could the fucking retarded kid do YouTube and be somewhat successful at it well others used it as a reason to kick my ass as though some success on some stupid platform was worthy of making me a target for some reason it got so bad I wasn't even allowed to come into class anymore literally segregated from the other students because then I quote from the principal we can't suspend 30 students look I don't need to delve too deeply into this but I was genuinely suicidal for a period of my life I spent a lot of time looking over a bridge holding everything I ever worked for over my back and considered jumping off into a frozen lake I mean my thought process behind that was if the ice didn't break my leg surely would maybe I'd hit my head really hard and it would be over quickly I spent so much fucking time sitting over that lake thinking about how I could do it just get it over with to make this pain and anxiety go away but for some reason outside of my own understanding to this very day I came to the conclusion that my mental sanity my safety and the rest of my life was not worth keeping up over a few shitty people and an overly bureaucratic system that does not incentivize growth and education I won't lie I still struggle with this now and some days are better than others and on those other days it can feel like the Sun is never gonna rise again and those thoughts they come back in full force but that said suicide is nothing more than a permanent solution to a temporary problem sometimes to help myself I say aloud that today is only a moment and if today is as bad as it will ever get that I have to understand that by tomorrow they would have ended meaning that even though it sucks now eventually it will get better if you just give it a chance [Music] chapter 2 now has each day capped off with either hanging out with B or Greg before you make that choice you can still do all the side stories in town just like before although in every playthrough you only have the opportunity to see one half of the story effectively making 100% in this game something that only can be done over the course of two playthroughs because of the way the game is set up each day is ended after the Hangout meaning that you can't do both Greg and B story at the same time and I actually really suggest you do that because each of those stories are fundamentally different and provide different experiences which I will go into in the video itself that said Greg is this cool bipolar dude basically all he wants to do is make his friends feel awesome and welcomed especially if that means avoiding his own underlying issues then we got B who's a bit standoffish you might be inclined to ignore at first because I mean she's kind of a bitch she kicks you out of her car does not seem to enjoy her company and in general you tend just a piss her off every time he talked or that said if you do give me a chance she is perhaps the most complex character in this entire game there's also one other character I'm gonna go over real quickly right now and his name is Angus I wish we got to spend more time with him we only get one opportunity to do one single hangout with him in the entire game and that begins in chapter 3 I understand that the developers were already killing themselves trying to get this product out but I'd love and DLC or something later down the line that would let you do a whole storyline with this guy similar to B or Greg because he most certainly deserves it however what we get is a single mission that comes into third chapter two story you go to the woods at night and learn that his parents were abusive to him however instead of falling into that pit of despair he uses his experiences to overcome other anxieties in his own life and in the end he doesn't let those experiences define him as a person during the sequence of the game he has a honest discussion with you about religion and his views on that as well angus is an atheist and lacks a belief spawned from being from a religious family because he's not from a religious family but after being abused and tormented in so many unforgivable ways he found comfort online with some skeptical communities the game as a whole does not really comment or condemn religion outright but it certainly has a discussion about it which i think is pretty cool it's not in just this one scene either the aforementioned subplot with pastor K and Bruce has a lot of subtext about religion and its role in society angus as a child was beaten and abused by his parents when his mom was left alone to watch him she would lock him in a cabinet leaving him alone sad and miserable he tried to turn to religion in hopes that he could pray his way out or get some sort of psychic powers from a divine being but no one really answered the call nothing really came out of this either and he felt even scared to contact the police or some sort of authority because he felt guilty about what was happening to him these emotions are ones that actual abuse victims will actually feel and as a child talking about abuse is no easy matter and this game goes right into that however despite this in general Angus is the most put together character in the entire game despite having the most reason to be a delinquent compared to the other players in the story this at least to me shows us that your past doesn't define who you are you define who you are you can't change what happened nor can you force other people to change their perspective or behavior in reality in the real world the only thing you can do is change how you respond to any given situation I mean if you actually in the end that's on you and while there's a lot that can be said about being from a broken home affecting your personality the only person is responsible for the way you act is yourself despite the Angus being from a broken home he's put together and in my opinion that is the most admirable trait in a character period which is why his relationship with Gregg is very heartbreaking and why I personally relate to this lovable oaf so much Gregg on the other hand has issues of himself emotionally speaking he struggles of know if he's having a good or bad day until the day is over and he's like an emotional roller coaster until that happens because of this he feels as though he's letting Angus down and it's been creating conflict between them I mean if you can't love yourself how can you expect someone else to do that for you that conflict only gets worse as you hang out with them Gregg is an emotionally troubled ball of fun he does silly weird stuff that make people happy and he holds the main cast together with his band practice sessions and his insistence on remaining a group but behind the scenes he's struggling a lot his emotional dependency on friends leads him to committing various crimes of may and at the end of the day he feels deflated and depressed he values his relationships above all else and is willing to go to any lengths to ensure that people around him are doing just a little bit better than he is even if he lacks the intelligence to provide any actual real help outside of an emotional context and to make things even worse sometimes his help while emotionally cathartic leads to everyone being in a worst off situation however if you choose a hangout Gregg the most may and Gregg break into an old mall and steal a creepy Freddy fazbear animatronic then Mae and Gregg beat up this old abandoned car in order to steal its battery which they want to retrofit into the freddy fazbear animatronic this leads that may understandably getting shocked because that's not how electricity works and then the third mission involves them stabbing each other with knives in the woods alright maybe I should actually explain that one a bit more may and Gregg tend to enjoy roughhousing a lot and actually when they were a lot younger they used to do the same thing stab each other in the hands knives playing a kind of game of chicken and this was their way of having fun and furthermore hurting one another I personally think this kind of symbolizes their relationship in a nutshell they spur each other on in an attempt to have fun even if it leads to them getting hurt or hurting someone else regardless of how you interpret it Gregg and may have a bit of fun leading to this well-lit shot by the water Gregg begins to talk about how he's going through some stuff and how he feels it's his responsibility to make sure the people he's around is happy especially Angus who has had kind of a shitty life and really needs a ball of fun like Gregg around lately he feels like he's been screwing it up and just putting more conflict in his life which he doesn't need he knows that with his education and circumstances that he's likely has nowhere left to go and that his current only reason for moving forward is his relationship of Angus who actually has some stuff he can do of his life in the end Gregg feels bad and that's just a concept no one around him has been able to really pick up on or really considers when they hang out with them and that is also something I certainly can relate to I'm certain that we all feel that way sometimes the final mission you do if Greg is called legends I've neglected to tell you about this but Greg and Angus are actually moving out of the dying town opossum Springs and into a rich place called bright Harbor because of this Greg feels absolutely pressured to hang out with me as much as humanly possible like they did when they were kids that's why they do a lot of petty vandalism and other various crimes the same stuff that they are doing when they were teenagers Greg wanted me to feel at home because of the stuff that she's been going through even if it meant possibly losing his job his opportunity of leaving this town and then it starts to threaten his romantic relationship with Angus May in the early game is also not allowed to truly accept this either even when you get dialog options related to this it's either questioning the logistics of how it's happening or questioning why he's leaving in the first place you don't get the option to be openly supportive and as you hang out with him you tend to bring out the worst aspects about him in the legends mission Angus appears to be off I mean there is this smelly animatronic in his house and now Mae is tagging along on a dinner date that he had with Greg the tension is very thick in the car as Greg and may keep trying to cheer her Angus up with some bad jokes but he's clearly not having any of it that's when the car gets a flat tire and this sparks a rather uncomfortable argument between the two that may bears witness to this is also another clue that may is kind of a third wheel here as all she can really do is watch as the two yell at each other Angus is upset that he's the only logical rational one in the group while again Greg just wants to be positive and wants to try to find some sort of solution the scene ends with you finding a spare tire and Angus politely telling me that he doesn't really trust her the gang then arrives at the donuts or that they originally set out to be at and once again things are tense Angus appears to be really upset after Mae orders food and goes to the bathroom and reflects on the situation like these hangouts with Gregg are typically fun humorous and very positive but this this isn't it's been weird and this is the first time it's been weird in one of these hangouts so in typical May fashion she has no idea how to express herself in a emotionally healthy manner she ends up trashing the place which is depicted through these minigames where you physically actually do the acts of clogging the toilet ruining the hand dryer and scratching the mirror in the middle of the act Gregg stops may calling her out this time he's acting as a responsible one the party returns and Angus drops the bombshell that yes you are a third wheel you finish out the awkward meal vomit and have a real heart-to-heart at the end Gregg then explains a story that happened to him when he was a kid that explains his current mentality basically his parents got sick of him and set them off to work at his uncle's farm being frustrated with the situation in combination of being a stupid kid he opened a sheep pen all the Sheep ran out over the hill and onto a highway with heavy oncoming traffic I'm pretty sure your mind can fill the details but let's just say that only one managed to survive and escape never to be seen again Gregg goes on to say that if he was in the sheep's position he would have did the same thing and in real life he wants to be that sheep and yes of course he loves Mae Mae is his best friend but in order for him to grow up and achieve that dream Maine needs to be willing to let him grow up too which could even mean either growing up or letting go the three cap off the scene by going on one last crime Laden adventure by leaving behind the last animatronic obtained in the previous hangouts allowing the party to change the setting and landscape forever and truly becoming legends and making one last memory that would last a lifetime in reality this chapter is about growing up and letting go of friends because as we get older we change as people and it kind of sucks I'm pretty sure you guys know and even I know a few people I miss at this day and they grew up all I'm still here doing the same garbage and I was when I was 16 it sucks but hey it happens and it's a natural part of life it's something that everybody goes through and this game in its typical fashion puts a mirror to that and really shows people that it's all right like I said many people tend to go for the gray grout because he's actually nice and he tries to have fun of you he makes me feel welcome even if it's fleeting and you know eventually he will be leaving it's not a struggle to see a man as he seems to have his stuff figured out and you want to experience that with him even if it's at his own expense if we move back to chapter 2 we get be the start of her arc begins a drive back home from that party may ruined Wow may is in his drunken stupor she tries to apologize for actions during this may says that Bea's mom is really nice and it would be bad as she vomited in her car however Bea's mom died at the end of senior year her dad had a mental breakdown and they had to move out of their childhood home into some shitty apartment because the bills from her mom literally dying was too much to keep her old home be now runs the hardware store not only so she can barely pay the bills for the apartment itself but also so she can take care of her dad who still owns everything her dream as a kid was to eventually go to college move out of this town and become something but when her mom died so too did that dream during to drive back Sheba rates may not only for not remembering that her parents literally died but also for abandoning college B even goes as far as the state that she would kick May out of this moving car right now if it meant for a chance to attend a higher education so if we scale back to that diner scene from earlier when be asked why Mae stopped going to college may either responds with it didn't work out or man screw school you really get to retroactively Lee feel the pain you accidentally put that character through and it puts some of her comments made before in the perspective may literally had everything be ever wanted and then she threw it away and unintentionally mocked her for it the scene ends with be taking a sigh then helping me get into bed saying goodnight made a which was a endearing nickname that be gave me when to to were kids showing that she actually still cares about Mae and there's still something under that hard exterior originally I was actually gonna write off her whole story but during the morning after this Mae says something along the lines of real relationships take time to grow and needs to be watered in order to flourish this first line was what convinced me to go for B first and honestly I'm glad it did if you choose to hang out with B the most on the first day you go to the mall commit some petty theft and abuse at water fountain system in order to cheer B up when she's feeling a little down honest to god that seeing the smile this smile that only happens once in the entire game mind you brings genuine joy to my heart every time I see it it's also why out of all the times I've played this game outside of this review i've done B's story about fifteen times and Greg's only around four unlike Greg story however B holds may too standard and they actually return everything that was stolen in the previous scene during the next hangout you quote-unquote helped be on a job get locked in a basement because old people are crazy and then may comes up with a admittedly creative solution to get out once again you work a little bit of that magic to make bead feel just a little bit better so she was working all day and was feeling like absolute garbage it's easy to tell she wishes she could do just a bit more and have more fun with you however things outside of her control keep bringing her down it makes her resentful and bitter that said Mae is able to bring a bit of that magic back just by being a great friend I want to take a quick detour here to kind of explain why I relate to this I work at an office job as stated in previous videos and when I get home after working an eight to ten hour shift I just feel dead I want to do fun things like play video games work on a video get into a call my friends however sometimes I just can't cuz I like motivation and I can't get out of bed oftentimes my roommate invites people over and I stop by for a couple hours and then lay down or I just don't interact if anyone and sit on the couch I know I want to be involved but I just can't and it kind of makes me feel like garbage I can't find the motivation to push past my own funk after working a long day it feels like something that I should be able to do but I can't be in the scene really encapsulates this feeling I relate to this so much and every time I play it it makes me feel a little less crappy about my own situation it shows me that someone out there understands the way I feel and has enough of an understanding to recreate it through media all I can say is is that it's very therapeutic and it's one of the best traits this game has to offer unfortunately this is the last time the story actually gets a bit better for being the next day May and be hang out by going to the grocery store maeín finds herself over for dinner after that depending on the choices you make during your shopping spree Bea's dad will either be happy or annoyed by the food that you get regardless may be and her dad are now sitting around a TV and a argument breaks out as B reminds her dad that bills are coming up and need to be paid off fairly soon B's dad starts to remind her who is the boss around here whose name is on the lease and whose name is on those checks he gets very authoritarian with her and it's very uncomfortable to watch especially since we know that he doesn't come by the shop and barely does any of the work to justify being called a boss after being thoroughly humiliated B then excuses herself from the scene and moves into her own room to which may follows that's when we get to see Beatrice and hello laying on what amounts to be an old worn mattress in a unpacked room with some old records playing that used to belong to her deceased mother may honestly means well when she tries to give a empowering speech about how you shouldn't let other people take advantage of you however B being a realist reminds her how unfeasible that ideal actually is some people don't have the luxury of choosing who their family are some individuals need to work with the broken people they got if B quits her dad won't be able to keep up and everyone loses their job also who else in town is even hiring where would she move what would happen to her dad where would she even get the capital to make this happen from an outside perspective it's easy to impose a solution on a problem however when you're in the center of it distress anxiety and consequences caused by those actions are sometimes just not worth it we also get to learn that one of the people B's dad has working at the hardware store was kind of creeping on Beatrice when they were younger however they can't fire him because he's one of the only on-site repairmen it's easy to see why he wants an excuse to be a kid again because that was prematurely taken away from her with the death of her own mom and now she has to be an adult when her own dad refuses to step up to the plate as you can tell bee takes a lot of this frustration out on May whether she D honestly deserves it or not may ends up leaving things unresolved after you've done the three main hang out so if B Greg or a combination of the both the harvest celebration begins and for those who don't know har Fest is this Halloween like parade that is celebrated by the town of possum Springs in an attempt to drum up business everything seems like good old-fashioned cheesy fun until you get the oh shit moment of the game up until this point the biggest horror you get to deal with is the existential one that comes upon by reflecting the narrative beats of the game which to me is admittedly pretty terrifying at this har fest thing you lose the ability to jump you get a Halloween outfit and you can play some fun minigames Tilby asked you to help out for play that she's putting on for the town Business Council you get to retell an old urban legend about a witch through the lens of a young adult slash teenager who made it admittedly a lot more funny than the original telling however as you go through it randomly this janitor character from the beginning of the game shows up almost unannounced and plays a character that delivers some dialogue that contains some heavy foreshadowing for the third act if that was not enough after a play B talks about a party she has to go to which may is not allowed to attend and Greg says he has a date with Angus leaving you alone to witness this may chases the man down to a fence however he seems to have phased right through it adding another layer of mystery to the story and a supernatural element this disturbing discovery is really emphasized if you opt to visit the location the next day and talk to aunt mall cop she explains that it would be impossible for someone to climb dis fence while carrying someone as quickly as May describes also no one reported any missing kids in the area and to top it all off he searched a woods nearby yielded no actual results as a player I was wondering if this was just me suffering from delusions again since she did pretty much get basically blown off by both her friends at the end of the night and could be suffering from bad anxiety again I was thinking that this could be a psychological horror thing but I think I was wrong with that assumption after this mae decides to gather her friends together as a group and they decide to divide and conquer and do some research may think said a ghost kidnapped someone while her friends don't think that's the case but they're willing to look into it if it means helping me deal with some of her anxiety this opens up three new hangout options going to the park with Angus as previously mentioned you get to learn more about his upbringing and talk about the stars which just feels so warm then there's exploring the Historical Society with Greg which is one of the best purely story related hangouts that is in the game you really get to learn a lot about what's actually going on here if you're willing to look into it then there's visiting the graveyard with B where you get to do some spooky graveyard things find a corpse and have a few funny scenes involving some teens it really doesn't show you anything you didn't know but you do get to learn more about be yourself if you're doing your first playthrough no matter who you decide to hang out with during chapter to pick Greg and Angus with Angus you get to learn more about him and get to experience some of the best writing this game has to offer that touches upon everything from religion to social anxieties and with Greg you get not only a few really funny scenes be also going to learn more about the overarching story especially if you know a little bit about Lovecraft and references to the Black Goat or its alternate name Lord of the woods which might suggest the god of the forests of this world might be the same evil entity from Lovecraft's infamous tales that said Greg's hangout provides the most context in the end is the best for the story out of the three no matter what though you only can do two out of the three hangouts before the game kicks you into the final section of the story the first day you get to pick any of the three on the second day you get to do a exclusive mission which can either be legend so if you hang out Greg during chapter 2 or proximity if you hung out with B which brings me to the next chapter of this video I've been holding off talking about proximity because it's had the most profound impact on me as a person so much so in fact that this tattoo was the first one I ever got it was a very important decision because it meant that I couldn't really be a on screen television actor like I wanted to ever since I was a kid it convinced me to give up on physical on screen acting in favor of doing voiceover work since tattoos and TV actors don't really mix that well it's the start of a new chapter my own life this image on my arm is there to remind me of a very important lesson this game has taught me and one that I have forgotten many times it's helped me if I own mental health significantly so without further hesitation let me explain the reason for this video existing proximity starts off of be inviting made as some sort of quote-unquote Jackie party two hours out of town it's a long drive and that much is that loss on the main character may even questions if she's allowed to come to this thing because she wasn't exactly invited and Jackie made it clear that she doesn't enjoy May's company B assures her that it's all fine and the two arrived at this college town it's a little awkward because clearly wasn't exactly informed of Mays arrival and was not expecting you but despite this little hiccup all seems pretty good for the most part the group meets up with some dudes who are from bright harbor that place Greg and Angus are working to move to and then start to awkwardly dance I won't lie watching these animations make me cringe a little bit but honestly I don't think he'd do much better in real life so I'll let it slide and besides may looks like she's having it fun eventually the guys come back and may opt to dance by herself after May has had enough dancing she opts to explore to place eventually meeting up with this other girl where she hits it off no matter how socially awkward you make her responses be that's when she returns to the main group to let them know that she's gonna be hanging out with this new individual B Jackie and these two boys are having this conversation B introduces Mae to the group the moment Mae opens her mouth B starts to get visibly uncomfortable awkwardly laughing I actually completely miss us my first time through I had no idea how badly they was making things awkward for a friend maybe it's because I also have no problem casually mentioning dead relatives to strangers or bringing up dark subject matter of just about anyone I mean hell here I am doing it with you guys and anyone who's willing to listen nonetheless Mae brings up B's dead mom which causes her to once again nervously laugh the conversation topic quickly shifts over to college stuff one of the boys says he's going to go into political science not because he wants a job but because he just wants to learn and basically he says that it's pretty materialistic to want to go to college specifically to get a job Mae he calls them out on this and also as someone who physically can't afford higher education I would have likely done the same thing while may is calling out this man for basically being privileged and rich B interrupts adjusting that she goes somewhere else no matter which dialogue you option rather you choose to agree and say that you're gonna go or you know disagree and say you want to stay here Mae won't leave which traps B in this awkward conversation with boys that she's actually shown some interest in the conversation topic quickly changes again where it suggested they go across the street for pizza Mae rudely asserts that B doesn't like Papa's rich kids because like who does but then during the flow of conversation Mae lets it out that B is from possum Springs and runs a small business there Mae was trying to be endearing with this comment and even though she had nothing but the best intentions the way the words are spoken kind of screwed be over I mean she drove 90 minutes from her home to go to a party for a college she does not even attend the conversation starts to spiral out of control and B starts to get some flack for upbringing which Lisa were panicking lying and eventually running away from the party so my first time through this I had literally no idea why Mae was being caught out by Jackie here I thought she was in the right and if B didn't want this to happen then she should have spelled it out more clearly that said I am also autistic and I miss out on social cues quite a lot the awkward laughter does several suggestions that do something else that constant may calm down lines of dialogue it all went over my head and on second reflection I just felt horrible I know the intent behind the character but from a outsider's perspective she was being an asshole the worst part about that is that I've been that person many times in my own life I know this because I basically avoid talking to people in many social settings like parties or group hangouts because I just I can't read a room that well I'm aware of this and this is my own fault and I'm the one who needs to take measures to make sure that I don't offend other people now Here I am playing a game where a character is unintentionally hurting someone else due to the same problems that I have I won't lie I sobbed as I reflected upon that many times I've done the exact same thing I want to say I can get better and I certainly do try as I now tread conversations with strangers a lot differently than I do if one's of close friends but the amount of times I've been may in this exact situation wounds me deeply I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to fix that quirk about myself but that said I'm not gonna also sit here and let my own disability be an excuse to not grow up either if we were to go back to the game may gets called out by Jackie Jackie even goes as far as to say that she's always known Mae was an asshole Mae desperately attempts to find be before she potentially gets hurt due to being alone in a unfamiliar city full of drunken college idiots Mae even nearly gets into a fight beforehand just because some dudes are blocking the fastest route wouldn't may eventually finds Beatrice sitting alone on dis bench overlooking a river he explains that these are her parties and she comes here specifically so she could just feel a little more at ease of her situation pretend to live a different life even if that's only just for two hours once a month Mae calls college stupid anyway which angers be even more because Beatrice sees College as a ticket out opportunity to make a better life it's a chance to not be stuck in the self-made hell spawn from a lot of factors starting with her parents and ending of her family socioeconomic class this unattainable dream is something she chases so fucking hard that she thinks about it every day and dreams about it on a good night this thing may had the chance to do and threw away was something that B only could physically dream about when her mom died so too did her dream as thoughts of running away turned into obligation and routine this hope she once had and these bright thoughts of the future only grew darker and darker until it became nothing but aunts and resentment it turned into genuine hatred for her former friend even if that's a little selfish can you honestly blame her for feeling this way considering these circumstances May is also frustrated that she's constantly being judged for this decision she made by people who don't understand why the decision had to be made in the first place even if that's her mom who in all honesty comes from a place of good intentions to Beatrice who just feels hurt and betrayed in the end once all is said and done the to find some common ground after Mei opens up a bit about the circumstances surrounding the dropping out the conversation ends with the realization that if you're gonna be trapped in a miserable place being trapped of a friend can make the whole experience just a little bit more bearable that despite what your parents tell you or what a motivational poster might say life is just not fair and hard work doesn't always lead the high rewards and that there's no real fate involved with anything and that finally when you're feeling your absolute lowest when life feels like it's going nothing but down and everything feels like it might as well end that proximity can account for a whole lot when you feel like you're alone it's what inspired is tattoo it's the first one I ever got and every time I look at it it reminds me that no matter how shitty life gets no matter how bad I genuinely feel I'm not alone because I always got good amazing friends in close proximity I know there's a lot to unpack here and honestly I got quite a bit of video left to go but I need to get something off my chest when I dropped out of high school it's something I got a lot of pushback for like I said before I was either gonna kill myself or just figure out a way to be okay and in the end I feel like I made a lot of progress towards that goal however that said I wish I could still get a higher education I wish I could find a way to communicate with my dad as we had a massive falling out during the worst part of my high school years and honestly I don't think it's recovered from that I wish I could go to Christmas dinner if I family and not feel like a criminal or a black sheep because while I understand everyone has good intentions the judgment is misguided and the advice just feels pointed and more like an insult than anything else I feel like I'm disappointing people all the time and that I need to do something with this anything just to justify being in existence I work hard I work my ass off and if I don't I genuinely feel guilty about existing and I'm not sure if that's a feeling many people have but it's a feeling that I've been experiencing quite a bit since I was 8 years old I have thought about killing myself because for some reason in my own head not existing anymore would just be significantly easier than whatever the hell I was doing at the time I felt like existence was something I had to justify through the approval the peers around me and existence was a continuous thing I had to justify to myself as opposed to just being a baseline thing that didn't need to be thought about logically speaking I understand that this is all my hatton existence is something that everyone deserves to have no matter what they choose to do with their life however sometimes logic is just not enough as you may have noticed I've included the suicide hotline number in this video and in many other videos because it's something me and many of my own family struggle with and no matter how bad it seems in the end it's just a struggle and it's something you can push through rather it's through your own methodology or through getting some genuine help because like I said sometimes logic isn't enough if I can do one thing with this video I hope it's to instill the message that I get it you're not alone and there are so many people struggling with so many things out there that you could never be alone in what you're facing I know it's easy to say that no one gets it but if you need to talk to someone you can find help all you need to do is sorry I got sidetracked and I didn't mean to go on this tangent but I promise you I'm getting to the point of this video soon so if you stuck with me this far you don't have much left I'm - I promise at the same time this is happening there's an overarching plot evolving May and these weird dreams she's having as you can tell this game actually has a pretty big horror aspect to it this horror element is what kept me going through my first time around it's what inspired me to buy this game to begin with because as you can tell I love horror and everything that has to do with it the superficial Lovecraftian inspires story really intrigued me and hooked me and I can't wait to see how they flesh it out in subsequent games however in night in the woods it's only used as a motivational driver to push the for fact that the story along at the end of whatever second ghost hunting mission you go on may ends up having visual and auditory hallucinations which prompts the group to meet up again may once again asserts that it's ghosts that are responsible which no one else here actually believes feeling rejected May says that she knows our ghosts in the woods and that she's gonna go alone if no one else wants to come while the groups do not believe in ghosts they certainly believe in May and all agreed to head out in one touching scene as they head up into the woods the atmosphere turns foreboding and a lighting begins to reflect one of the first nightmares that happened at the end of chapter 2 that's when we get our first actually disturbing scene since the kidnapping [Music] [Music] Maye screws up gasps and causes the cultists the chaser down you have to jump over these rocks but no matter what happens after the initial gunshot you play as either B or Greg depending on who you did your final hang out with legends or proximity they talk about how bad everything is and are scared out of their minds and playing video games of course because if you almost got shot by a creepy cultists and we're hiding out at an apartment what would you do you then hear footsteps and a knock at the door which props the game the q back to maze perspective and you get this trippy dream sequence that shows possum Springs has been abandoned and destroyed at this point the game starts to get very weird however after playing this game God knows how many times I think it can actually decrypt what happened the gunshot mist may causing her to fall down and hitting her head in a ravine the cultists did not intend on killing her and backed off allowing Bay's friends to call an ambulance or drive her off to the hospital that's where this scene comes in involving Mae's parents they discharge her and she's taken home based on the fact that the number of people at the church seen before this is dependent on the amount of side stories you do I only can assume that it's me thinking about the people that would miss her if she were to die while she's is this half lucid state in a later portion of the game she makes a lot of remarks about refusing to die or letting this dark thing take control of her life so I think it could be an allegory about not letting depression take control but perhaps I'm getting a little ahead of myself much later may wakes up from what I think is a concussion and wanders from her parents home to Greg's apartment where everyone else has held up the game picks back up from where you left off after you heard the knock on the door that was supposed to act as a fake scare from earlier May is clearly sick and constantly slipping in and out of consciousness the gang orders a pizza and may cause her mom who is clearly panicked because their daughter just on out and despite everyone being freaked out and scared they still all offer support of some kind it's honestly genuinely touching at the end of the stint you either sleep of Greg or beyond the couch which provides two very different conversations in both conversations may opens up about why she dropped out of school for a while and why she also dropped out of college later she had some mental issues that caused her to get really violent with a kid during a softball game something snapped within her and now she's struggling to see the world as it should be therapy doesn't seem to be working and in all honesty if you've ever been to therapy sometimes it can actually suck and not really do much for you the Greg tackles this information emotionally talking about how he wished me would have opened up to him how he would have saved her from that horrible college and emotionally speaking he lightens up the mood of a few jokes and promises how he would always be there for her B however takes a very different approach as she takes a time to hear me out she makes sure to explain how serious this is and promises her to get her some actual real help for mental issues which is certainly out there he knows she's not capable of helping in this situation but she's also acknowledging that she could still be there and also knows that everyone has access to the Internet and can find someone who certainly knows what to do B acts as a logical solution to the problem which is something that I personally agree with no matter what though the person you're sleeping with on the couch ends up passing out allowing me to sneak out at night to finally deal with this group of weird cultists once and for all may goes into the woods and confronts the cloaked figure that's been haunting her for a while now only for an arrow to interrupt the scene either B or Greg yells at you for being stupid and no matter how little or much may protest the gangs back together to help me no matter what's at stake they move password' a man was tortured and head into a abandoned May is still clearly sick as they head through maze getting more and more uneasy and tension starts to build with the upcoming scene the party walk into a pitch-black room and the koltes tells them not to move any closer or they will die the lights turns on and it's revealed that there's a massive pit right in front of the group this is where everything gets explained to us basically there's a cult of boomers who wants everything to go back to the way things were in town when the town had people when the mining companies were around when business was booming and everything was nice the founder to cult dug into this mine and found this hole where they found the Black Goat singing to them they fed the Black Goat people mostly delinquents homeless and drunks to keep the town prospering during this conversation Mae starts to black out and everything else fades into background and she imagines herself throwing herself into this dark pit eventually the coal agrees to let you go they want you to join cuz at some point you'll understand what's at stake in the future Mae can't walk so Angus has to carry her back through the mine and up to shaft however right before the group was about to leave the mass cult leader that was shot before likely from shaft above the elevator grabs Mae trying to drag her back down after a scuffle he loses his arm much like the man lost his arm earlier in the game this causes a cave-in and drowns the gang in silence at darkness giving Mae a moment to cry this moment is honestly adorable and just a very well paced scene Gregg Angus and B find a boarded-up exit and one touch I really like is that maîtrise a pride a thing open on our own but no matter how much you shake the mouse or try to get the thing off no progress is actually even made until Greg B and angus help chip in which makes the whole thing a lot easier showing that with great friends around the burden of anything could be lightened I like how the game likes to tie in game mechanics to the themes of the story as the group has deeper they find what appears to be an abandoned well or reservoir into mine may walks forward through the water only to get sucked into it leaving us it's creepy animation this heartfelt speech in the face of an unknowable horror I played through the scene like again God knows how many times in every time I play through it it means just a little bit more I'm playing through one I thought it was just kind of neat play through - I paid through just a bit more attention and then on playthrough 3 it really clicked on me and inspired this tattoo and ultimately it's what saved my life May is struggling with so much she's hurting badly at this point and she feels hurt and is doing everything she can just to avoid getting hurt again she's lashing out she's confiding and doing everything she can to avoid this basic human emotion but at the end of this scene she finally embraces it we should always want it to hurt would you lose someone you should be hurting you should want it to hurt real bad because at least then it meant something I've had so many people die a me in these past two years high school friends those family members and even some of the best online friends you could ever have some of the most dependable people you could ask for and most of them killed themselves due to some sort of mental issue outside of my control I just pretended it didn't fucking hurt or affect me I went into work like nothing happened to last night I stopped going online and I just disappear for long periods of time as I woke up ate and went back to bed or work I was very close to losing someone close to me my older brother recently I don't know if you guys know what it's like to run up to a door and slamming your body against it in an attempt to break or loosen a lot only to hear the loud bang of be greeted to one of the most horrible sights you can see your friend being to immediately know that some folks needed to be made then as much as you wanted to break down that there were people around you who were hurting far more than you could ever even fucking imagine and I always got to experience that again very recently you're damn right I wanted the fucking hurt I want a dirt smoke pad because these relationships need so much every last one of them I wanted to hurt so much that there is no way I could ever forget what these people meant to me because it's okay to hurt because that means it meant something and being something is better than being nothing so yes I wanted to fucking hurt I want it to hurt I don't want to forget that it hurts I want each memory in momento I want to treasure all that above and above all that I just want it to hurt after this experience may feels better and every time I go through that segment I find myself shaking and in tears partially because of the lessons it taught me because I know that this game is about to end and the characters have grown so attached you are about to say goodbye to one another may manages a climb out of the well which happens to be at Jeremy's property they all go there are our own homes and may leaves a heartfelt message saying that she doesn't wanted to let any of them go which I always felt to be ironic considering how I didn't want any of them to go they were basically permanent fixtures of my life I mean quite literally what's this is done you get one last day to talk to people and wrap up any lingering storylines finally after you've had your last round of genuine fun you meet up for one last band practice the gang wants to discuss what happened but Mae just wants to play a song get some pizza and hang out considered the hectic week I understand how she feels but once everyone agrees to do this the game just ends cut the credits it's always Luffy feeling hollow but it was always followed by me were starting a game and going on a roller coaster once again 200 hours later Here I am still repeating the same adventure probably because my OCD and partly because it saved my life however after all this I think I'm finally strong enough to put this game now even after all it's done for me if I played it so many times she Singh this feeling I thought was a mystic for my life but after playing it and making this I think I can finally put this down grow up and move on to something greater because this game showed me that this feeling I have spent here all along this game came into my life when I lost over 75% of my YouTube ad revenue when I lost important family relationships due to circumstances outside of my control and when I lost many close friends due to self-harm and when it came down to it I was seriously considering ending at all because I felt like I was alone I felt like I had no real friends and I felt like I just disappointed everyone around me and I had no idea how to do anything to prove them wrong to prove to them that my existence was worth something this game acted like a mirror I related to may be and Greg and I saw myself Effendi's broken characters and I watch how they banded together to overcome their own emotional demons in the game may thought she was alone but in reality she had some of the most amazing people around her to act as a support system this really got me thinking and I started to think about the people in my own life that made an impact I thought about amazing people like blame it on Jorge who helped me or for my channel into something that would be long-term and sustainable he's always been there for me everytime drama hit whether it was professional or not he and several other people got together every single time to let me know that it was okay my roommate Alec who was honest to god one the coolest bros a person could ask for in a roommate mr. creepypasta saw that I was having financial issues during the month of December then helped me out so I could afford to have a Christmas then we have tasks on videos who got me into this whole YouTube thing to begin with he helped make channel grow and gave me a real chance into making this into something when he saw that I was struggling in high school I am reminded of some ordinary gamers who made sure to tell me that he was happy to see my channel grow and even worked with me and acted as a huge inspiration to my early career and especially mullet Mike from creepy gaming who's honestly one of the most amazing dudes on YouTube and he just tries to maintain this aura of positivity no matter what's going on in his life to keep the horror community together sometimes when you're too busy looking forward and the Sun set and everything is dark and bleak it's hard to remember that the Sun will eventually rise again it's hard to think that you can move past this and sometimes it's hard to see anything else but the most darkest of thoughts night in the woods gave me a mirror and instead of looking forward I looked back to find these amazing people standing behind me and they've been standing there - whole fucking time and I was too depressed and sad to see this I've had a fucking video game reminding me this game related to me like no other piece of media ever could and instead of giving in to these darker thoughts I leaned into those amazing people and I learned how to deal with this hurt I was feeling and I learned how to turn that anxiety and depression into something positive I was reminded yet again that my own disabilities are not a hindrance but rather they're a motivator and that suicide it's just an excuse not to watch the Sun Rise again cuz god dammit it's going to if you're feeling down or depress I get it trust me and I've been there and I am still there that said you can rise past it 9 the woods as a video game might not be for everyone it's built for a very specific type of person in fact it's a game that's amazing beautiful and flawed and even if night the woods might not be for everyone things that I can say is that no matter what it is everyone deserves a game like night in the woods This video, is amazing as to explain the game and what's it's purpose basically.

Now that I know, what the game is basically about and the person in the video brought them up, I kinda relate to him.

I don't have a mental illness nor so many deaths, involving my relationships, but what I do have, is feeling down and sometimes feeling like shit after a day at school, or hanging out with some not so great friends and such.

There are some days, where I just don't want to do anything, like absolutely not do anything good for me or others.

I hope anyone reading this post can understand it, as I will definitely leave something out.
