yeah [Music] boy [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] they don't get [Applause] lucky welcome to e Rees the magician reaction and commentary videos for today's reaction video re first race to n s death elimination match Rees Nick venberg noina 2003 World n ball Championship S EP Reyes nicken break rock number one SI Nick Vandenberg Dutch professional pool player 23 years old 200 Rees 49 years old Nick bber World n ball Championship Death Match elimination round interational match Nick venberg eight ball world championship titles table re number one oh it looks like he's perfect Sid he can run straight through on this he's just going to want a little angle on that three to get back up for the four but this is an ideal angle to drop on the three race to nine racks place in the last 16 climax Sunday the final that was a bad Miss from Nick vandenbberg he had the first first opportunity to try and put Efron Reyes in trouble and it looks like costing him the opening rack and remember it's winner break if you're watching earlier in the week the round robin stages when 128 player started out here they were playing alterate break this is winner breaks so look out for runs of five six and upwards like we've had in the previous five times it's the fifth time we've had this tournament in C if in one remembers at this stage of the game players running many racks that was a significant Victory B archa 95 he's a little closer to that side cushion here than he'd like and he's got to dig into the Q ball you see the brown seven next closer to his work than he might have liked but this is no problem that's right last three ball number one number one last number one re Ru winners break rock number two nicken Rock number two number two look and sort out what he did wrong with that breakoff but it's down to Vandenburg to put pay to it and uh absolute fantastic tber this kid was taken into the monei Cup team the Elite Squad to plac the Americans Bethel green just before Christmas of last year and he glittered he impressed the L of Davison Rob suuki and Oliver Ortman with his all around attitude and his all around game so he has not the sort of lad to be phased by the statue of the opponent or the statue of the championship he just hasn't quite run far enough looks like he may have to take the Q ball into the four here Sid I don't know whether or not he can avoid it but you see the natural angle he's going to take the Q ball right over here he'll want to clip that side of the four and bump it towards the corner this is one of those shots that you never like to move the ball unless you have no choice that's what he's looking at right now Nick this can go wrong aiming combination 4 to9 combination corner pocket right corner pocket ball combination sh 4 niber angle by about 12 15° on the contact between the two balls he's aiming at this is difficult bber number number elimin round [Music] pocket Nick bber power number pocket just over somewhere near where this x is that's one option from there he certainly wouldn't be leaving anything from which Efron Reyes would be able to attack he's having one more look at that area just wants to be certain here Sid cuz he doesn't want to give Reyes something that he can play a good attacking safety against vandenbberg either and take it from E re has knows more roots of attack than joner you are now seeing a genius approaching the table that would look to a club play even an international player like a series of problems to this man it's a series of solutions the greatest pool brain I would see on the planet yeah no surprise he's put vandenbberg back in nothing easy about the safety here here he's got to play just an object ball safety and that's just banked that two down in behind the nine and the Seven remind you race to nine to get in the last 16 of the World Championships you know Sid I'm assuming he can see enough of it to be able to play that shot see just less than half the ball that was risky that was a very risky shot and if you want an indication of how settled Nick vandenberg's nerves are you just got it absolutely it say caliber to be drafted into the [Music] MOs play safe Reyes he's got a two cushion a Escape here Sid and a one cushion escape the two cushion Escape like this the one cushion Escape he's looking at right now one thing about the long cushion is he could make the two now it almost looks like he's looking at three cushions surely if he can get the one cushion that's got to be easier if he wants to try and pocket the two absolutely can't see any advantage in the line he was looking at to hit the cush a foot cushion aggression well he got it but it's looking mighty sweet to me for a player of the caliber of the former world champion yeah it looks like an open pot here for efon Reyes and vandenbberg knows well in fact it isn't that five blocks the pocket so a good escape from Nick Vandenberg this is where you expect to see efon Reyes show a little extra and he's just slightly overhit this Sid but it was a great attempt another half rule by the blue two and it would have been very nice indeed just rolled about an inch further than Efron wanted wanted that Q ball over on that cushion now this may not look available but it is on a pool table a very fine clip and I think Nick Vandenberg is going to take this shot on sure is one danger is Al into the knuckle you dead right it's about 5% of the ball to aim out and hit no doesn't want to go behind that eight and I don't know whether or not he has it's very close he well I think a swerve shot on here to get the strike necessary for the pot rightward here we go a little bit of a m a shot just curl it around that eight well he's going for his jump Q said he wants to just jump over the edge of the 80s just got to clear that edge and this really isn't that difficult for players of this caliber absolutely but we have seen the last two shots one shot by each player shows how fast the clo is there's no nap on it and even at this level they get the real extra rule of the half an inch that can be trying for Calamity of this game sights up then he will Jack up to an angle of 70° Hello Dolly just got that three by the side pocket though he was willing it passed after he saw that he had missed it this is not a shot from which Eon reyz can attack either Sid boy this is tough so what's the plan with the gim well I say that he can't attack I wonder if he could try and Snick this and play a side Bank side bank is on the cards but he wasn't on line anyway I think you the most have he hadn't hit the orange scratch well we've seen a couple mistakes from reyaz and that's going to give vandenbberg some heart I'm not too sure he wasn't playing the side Bank there Sid oh I think he definitely was but say he was offline even before he hit the orange no doubt at all this not has the temperament not to let it worry him at all who's sitting in the chair schwarzen again Goliath have' got he doesn't care who they are Nick's got a bit of a problem it comes in the form of the seven ball so he's in the middle of the table 4 five6 no danger and if that seven doesn't offer a combination to the nine at the bottom of your picture then that seven may have to be developed the good news is the six is in close proximity to it and it doesn't really offer a combination certainly not without it having to be developed or he could work for a clean shot to the left as we look when he gets there which he certainly will do he's just had a look I wonder if that seven is available to the bottom left corner as we look oh that one struggled in he just barely left himself enough angle well the seven is available that corner so this isn't a danger but Nick didn't quite give himself the angle he would have liked on this six last Nick venberg number three position Nick venberg Rock number three last number reappointed nien Reet number number [Music] four number five's playing this break won't I think next time you can watch if Reyes gets another break off watch for him to draw that Q ball back a little bit Wing ball one of the beautiful J and SS of the pool world it's the ball on either side of the diamond and the players watch they come down and watch play all the times to work out who's getting what in what over just playing this down the top cushion as we look just to leave the bottom half of that one ball push onot a challenge shot means that Reyes has got a plan in mind if the young Dutchman says pick up where you're left off fou Catherine Reyes is is one of the better if not the best chess player of all the pool players you start getting into a little chess game with them on a pool table and you might well be getting second place in a two-horse race yep you play efon for money you could be writing out a check mate now Efron can Snick this into the side pocket here and he can use the five to hold position to the the two at least that's what he attempted well so Eon is going to be running for cover here I don't think this two goes he's having a good look well look at that Sid between the six and the nine just room and if anybody can feather it through without well bad shot he's smiling as he goes to the as he goes back back to the chair he almost fluked the nine here bad Miss to clunk into that by quar of an inch into the six you expected him to bisect that angle between the nine and the green say the funny side now efon Reyes kicks the ball so well and a kick shot is something that we would turn escaping from a snooker L ahead 3-2 now against F young oh really doing a number on Manolo of the Philippines Max ebley of the US Trails three two the Sha coming up later Davis against former world champion Takahashi Strickland will also be in play this afternoon Ina Yama Le vers shamat SU against Yang which is a Lip Smacker later on Nick vandenbberg with ball in hand now on the main table Sid and this simply because Reyes deemed that escape too difficult and he just dollied the six and the four together and that's the problem that confronts Nick vandenbberg right now but one thing about it Nick's got ball in hand and he can leave himself in a position on that two to try and develop the four that's the next one on and he's having a real good look to see if he leaves it there can he attack the four Trails 21 to the magician he's weighing this up eyes back and forth he's also got the nine in an area that he may even consider going after just depends how Nick feels right now he's already given us indications that he's very settled there he goes with the blue two he's trying to develop it well that's not bad that's not the worst result he could have had because he's going to be able to glue that QQ ball behind the six number six number Nick Nick venberg counter safety Rees yeah he's got to be wondering what he has to do boy that looked like a a cruel spot to leave that QQ ball behind the six and here he comes to the table he can just maybe just get through to the edge of this four if he can't Sor said if he can't he should be able to bank it to the side cushion see enough of it to bank into the side cushion and put distance between that four and the Q balling this time CU he knows that Ray has will jump on anything slack R dicks there BL Dutchman taking good note of his fellow countryman's problems and known full well that this could be dollied up for the Maestro that's why he's taking his time just like giv pet roll to a f than Dragon offering any kind of snitch of a chance to Rees needs to be a bit lucky here and I don't know his safety game just doesn't seem to be there right now it's deserting him although there's well from the Top Shot tou shot there it looks a bit harder than it is you'd expect rayan to delicately flick this in and get position on the orange five it's all a question of being firm enough to get over for the five Sid that was always going to be the danger need another six in on the Run wouldn't surprise me eon's going to be able to lean over the table here I think he'll probably try and bank this five into the top right corner that's EXA L what he's going to do he will move his tummy away back sharpish to clear the air four it went in they coached far too early that was about as poor effort as you're going to see from Eon reyz agreed he's not completely on song in this match and Nick Vandenberg really has to seize the moment here because he's got one of the aces in the game struggling absolutely it's one of the clumsiest attempt at a bank I know it was the table length bank but normally he's sh fire on them this is tricky see by the case taking on the queing well that was the time he took on the Queue and showed you that he was not sure about the pace of the shot see the Bobble a que as well again into the cush far to early he's just on the six here Sid played the Q ball down to the bottom part of the cushion and just developed the nine ball to make it a lot easier from any angle in on anywhere on the table so this is going to be 31 last three B number very straight 2 score number number five see if it can Brew up and a bit better control of action at the Breck Sid he's uh I would have bet my life that he was going to draw that Q ball back a bit there yep he knows he's getting that Wing ball and that one ball is always going the wrong end of the table now if he can see this he's a little fortunate cuz there's a long ways between the Q ball and the one and it was involved in a lot of traffic down there involved in the pink and the blue before the ball stopped rolling so sweetly for him I'm not exactly sure that efon he's even showing you that wasn't where he intended to leave the QQ ball he was playing the two to the same pocket as the one the pace that he hit that said to only draw back a couple inches well what do they say about football teams who can win games when they're playing bad if think can keep ahead playing bad you know it's going to suddenly turn into Springtime for eff yeah it's not about how good your good play is when these guys are on song they all look brilliant it's about how good your poor play is can you survive when you're struggling well struggling along a 3-1 and in play where it's winner brick isn't the bad position to beay in here we go coming in with a lot of bottom and a lot of bit of right hand side key shot coming now from the four to the five because it's not easy to drop onto the five he's got plenty of angle aing ball number four Corner re Back Spin Rock number five last b rock number five1 Rees number six sharp up the act and this lad knows it Ricochet kicked away the white but no action on the C this is what makes Reyes vulnerable if you're ever breaking well against them if you can come close to matching him shot for shot the break can be your advantage because it's never been one of his weapons any aggressive option here or push out possible well this one passes into that corner pocket the same Corner the only problem is position to the two is not easy and he may have to play it at a bit of speed and that's going to make the pocket shrink somewhat see that's he's playing it into the more difficult pocket just because it affords better position to the two yep he really didn't want to be hampered queuing over the eight but he's had a quick look to see if that three goes into the side pocket and expect him to get this of his experience and it must pass because he's looking at position to the four and he's got to leave himself below the four with a nice angle to be able to go up table for the fiveish queing aim to get on the pink for after the red drops achieved that's perfect and that he's got just the angly ones to drop onto the orange so 4-2 coming up windmill's turning faster in Amsterdam I'm sure there are many times in Nick vandenberg's career that he has knocked in four five six racks in succession if he could do that here he'd really put the former world champion under a lot of pressure he's got a big following a lot of people from the Netherlands over to support their players colorful Bunch D tats national flags super fans and it must be going through his head the problems that e Happ with the break and the uh experimentation that e have the break so there might be a negative sign to e Nick venberg last three Rock number six Pik scratch okay soim bber rock number six last bber RO number seven this is where Nick just needs a little bit of luck I don't know whether or not he can get through to this one he may attack it a corner Bank possibility and the other option is the safety option just bank that one off the side cushion and down into the middle of the table and run with the qall in behind cover well Eat Your Heart Out ramb brand we got an artist in the comary box from Toronto Jim spot at the line of that ball perfect efon just looking at the escape from that side cushion he'd love to be able to clip this and again run with the Q ball it's all about putting distance between the QQ ball and the object ball when you're like this trying to reply to the snooker with a snooker but opens the gate for venburg now the long pocket is blocked by the red three so has to be thinking about taking this in the middle and the two go Sid into the corner pocket so Nick might either have to slow roll this or play it off the cushion go up table let that Q ball travel a bit this is just a preference shot difficult to tell just how much angle he has possibly even too much to roll it yeah that's good point well beautiful use of s spin there and beautiful control of the pace to leave himself a lovely angle to pop the blue two and get sweet as he'd want on the red three I know I've said it a few times already but if Vandenberg ever starts to find his wings in this match Reyes just has looked far from in control that's right uh just the usual non-emotion there major upset could be on the cards that's right so the headline could read the Amsterdam Gazette never get a better chance to get one on the board than the were these balls lie Jim agreed said there should be no problems right now for Nick he didn't win one of those 13 Dutch titles failing when the balls were in this position and he didn't get on the muscone cup from not being able to knock these sword in and you don't design your own line so a truly International battle here battling to get in the last 16 this is just what Nick vandenbberg was looking for being able to break come to the table with everything in the open the longer that he can keep Eon Reyes in his chair the better suited he's going to be the possibly unseat but the tournament favorite mistake and it'll be like the fake as pip to the Cobra in the basket other side of the coin we saw him over four days at the mosoni cup 7 months ago where he's cool and he a great ression at the right time and PR Davis and European Captain Orman he's a Class Act this lad will not Buckle yes he handled the pressure as well as anyone and certainly opened a lot of eyes in one of the games real pressure cookers so why would we expect him to fold his tent here yes in the land of bobbled in the Jaws you might well see Nick Van well there's no doubt about it he's going to be pushing out here I think push out is uh a challenge shot it means you've got half a plan here 51% of a plan in your head is Francisco the man who's been providing coffee to his pal efon Ryan just wise up the situation and the mro as usual looks flag Matic maybe he's trying to make friends because I've just looked at the draw and if Reyes and buade keep winning they lock horns easier to catch more flies with honey than with vinegar Sid there we'll just you can have a look and check up on all the latest scores see how your man is doing ly goes ahead 64 confirming Filipino out 92 to G level match there interesting coming up late the Run Davis against Takahashi who he beat a couple of years ago in his three nights of Fame when he took out reyz Suk and Takahashi shamat one of could be an outsider for the title Su will play Yang and what will be a cracker yeah I'm not missing that one there's two that a lot of experts have tipped for the title and they're meeting in the last 32 but right now man of the moment Nick Vandenberg and he's had to play this shot again from the push out looking to take the white into the wall between the nine and the green six looks from that angle as though Eon may not have a full ball hit on the one I'm not sure he can see the one at all said but he's got a very easy kick off that top cushion and if Eon goes after this one he's going to try and kick the left side of that one as we look and bring that Q ball back down towards the that you see now but he's going to come off this cushion he wants to try and hit the left side of that one and bring the Q ball back down just like that heading into I None of pace on the white would have been lovely another 6 in to tuck up beyond the green this is nothing more than buying himself a bit of time yep one extra shot and I think the escape this time I really can't see vandenbberg going after the one into the side because he's got such an easy shot to be able to put Reyes in trouble and it's going to be a little tougher get out this time for Efron he can play that Q ball into the three to hold it in behind the seven this is a tougher Escape Sid can he go to the uh top cushion do it in one bounce with that one a little further into the center of the table he certainly can but again a little tougher he's going to be bridging very near the six too he might be looking at two cushions here an enormous amount of the right hand side [Applause] he just makes so few mistakes when he's kicking it balls he always seems to go the way to give himself the best chance to get that ball safe and that is what just astounds all the other players when they watch him and Nick Vandenberg right now has to watch from the unkindest position this one is not available and it doesn't offer a combination to the four either and the safe from this position isn't easy says it all Jim as usual when you're playing the magician bring butter to rub on your wrists cuz you're going to be manacled more than once if when he had that difficult shot at the one if he might as well have gone after it now well that's all you need when you're in a lock up position like this to have a bit of self-doubt about something that should be Gone With the Wind but playing afon Ray it's not just your game and your stick action that you start a question you start to question your own decision making yeah this is really tough I just don't see any shot that Nick can play easy an aggressive safety in return that was hard work no doubt about it it was just never going to be easy where would you have ideally situated the C ball in the object ball and with that shot oh with a color in between the two which one we'll pick one [Music] number number Nick venberg Bank kick ball number one side pocket and again this will be played at a bit of speed Sid not not pounded but he's got to play it at speed so that if he gets a full contact he wants to knock that one back up the table and put some distance between them and that's if he doesn't like the mass shot and after contact is the white got to go somewhere near the green it's a wall of ball so you maybe were perfectly called by Jim perfect call [Applause] K he hasn't done too bad he's fighting hard as Nick Vandenberg to stay with rayz now he got behind that green it is though R now simple attaka well he didn't get the CQ ball behind the four as he desired but he has got it where the two is providing the eclipse to the one this looks like it can only be a two cushion Escape for Vandenburg off the side cushion and cushion and again into the one but in getting out of these escapes find two cushions there's always the chance that the object ball dollies up for the opponent so the Tactical Advantage massively with Reyes in this rack well Nick's looking at where that one will go with the two cushion Escape another hit little bit tougher is the one cushion Escape I just feel that the two cushion Escape May provide a few better options is he going to try and swerve this off one tougher hit has he been lucky oh I think he was nly nly lucky that was on the way to the pocket that one was on the way to the pocket he's left Reyes half a chance at this that was a good effort but look where that one was hitting if only that QQ ball had got out of the way tricky little shot it's about a 33% of the ball hits you get two guiders the n in the orange and he want to go to the heart of theen aiming s venberg s ball number bot side pocket number Hill tohill match elimination round kenberg at e Reyes Rock number 16 see the expression that says I blew it my co commentators lost it now I thinks he's tarab reyaz looking to become Houdini this is thin this is to com this has to go in for Eon and it has A8 with Ray as to [Applause] break Shir eggs this is inck number 17 ball race to n match last Rock Rees at last Rock Rees ayun langas talaga [Music] SI ra [Music] there's probably about 28 29 players that are hoping for Vandenburg for different reasons well like the old saying when the cuts away the house melts better if they get r out of this the pickings are up for grabs didn't get that qball behind the color as he would have liked no man has embraced pressure more or with more success than has zephron reyz does he start with the table and bank no he'll be doing nothing like that here Sid this is going to be trying and get that Q ball in behind one of those colors that's too thick that hit but has it o Nelly Ro well here we go great chance for the young Dutchman to clear through these first shot into the middle box a bit tricky is that where we lame it it's not easy he's bridging right over the four ball and I think he's going to have to play this into the corner pocket Sid it'll Avail position to the two if he gets it and he's just showing you up over the four follow through to the center of the table for the two once again the chance materializes for vandenbberg very long number two s corner pocket only be balls rolling lady looks dice rolling needs angle here Sid and he doesn't have enough he's not going to be able to get position to the four from here he needed that Q ball somewhere in the middle very little angle and I really can't see him getting that QQ ball in an area to be able to attack the four this is where experience and composure having handle situations like this come into play vandenbberg has to take what the table gives him and not try and force it it's only 23 but he's got Oodles of experience in the top Echelon he can draw back to where he's just shown you on the other side of that side pocket but it's going to be a real difficult four that he looks at next 16 ft of s movement on this pitch going to be crucial that was the problem Sid the position just wasn't there and now he's left himself in trouble if he can't see this four he's in big trouble play here on the main table and the outcome still in the balance good enough to handle all the pressure the Strickland lead Yanks could throw at him in the musone cup with Orman and Davis and Su in company will not be led down by temperament shouldn't be led down by technique but he knows that the man against them has got probably the greatest ever pool brain in the history of the game and he can't give him an inch that is not an inch that is a country mile of a chance they're apping nicken lasten number last four ball position side [Music] pocket very disappointed re manable re last B congratulations p b Rees thank you
