okay so this is my first video any NCS and I really hope that I can make some more videos with these as in when I get more experience on the NCS platform but let me talk about my first case that I took on the NCS so it was the NCS five four one two and let me clarify first the difference between en CS w and normally NCS so there is no difference between the NCS W in the normal NCS the hardware is exactly the same it is physically the same box the only difference that on if we install NS vis and leave us bundle image on the hardware on the NCS it becomes an ENT SW in case you install NF v is imaged separately and installed Beavis as the VM on top of anything is that becomes basically a NCS so I had a customer who wanted to do and if he wanted to install the bundles because he wanted to run it just run vive so the VM on top of NCS however we realize that's not possible so we so we basically decided to install nfe is first and then try and do the V vas the VM deployment on top of NFC is so let me talk about the hardware itself I for went I know we can all refer to the dear sheet and have a look but from what I've seen now it has eight ports one gig card it has a CI MC port it has a console port it has a management port - well actually for gigabit interfaces gig 0/0 and I believe that 0/1 but you can use only two at a time so you can either use them as copper interfaces so you plug in your rj45 cables into them or you can basically plug in SFP and I guess plug in the fiber cables into the little stupid interfaces in the documentation you will see them referred to as van interfaces and the eight gigabit interfaces that are referred to earlier as the LAN interfaces okay so first things first power on the device so the first thing is we need to connect our keyboard and a monitor to the device so the device has a USB port on the front where you can plug in the USB keyboard and there is a vga connector where you can plug in the monitor as well once you power on the device you will see the CNC boot screen and let me try and bring that up as well see if I can bring it up you you you you okay so this the the boot screen you will see when you power on the server you will need to press f8 to enter the CMC utility the first time you press f8 it will ask you to set a password please remember the password because the next time you try to access the utility you will have to reenter the password just the way I'm doing it here once I'm inside the utility I can like assign the IP address so in this case I'm using the CI MC report on the e NCS itself that is why I have selected dedicated interface and yeah and that's the IP address which has been said statically once that's done just hit escape and you can exit from the utility once the device boots up you should be able to access the CNC either we are the web interface or you can even SSH into the CNC so here we are going to see a boot process of nfe is as you can see it's running sent over seven and process is going to really take some time let me bring up the CNC utility you can see it as well [Music] you so I just put in the IP address that it signed to the CMC interface so you would get this screen enter admin put password and to login and you will be inside the CMC once you're inside this here and see obviously we are very much interested in the KVM console so you can say launch KVM and select HTML or Java based Java based means you need Java installed on your machine I'm going to select HTML based in case you have pop-ups blocked so it would not launch the HTML interface you will need to allow pop-ups for the IP address of CMC there you go so now the nav is is booting now let's say you want to do a fresh nfe as installation download the installation image from CCO on your local hard drive come to virtual media active irtual devices and then you will see these devices here or map CD removable sloppy dis click just select map CD Drive hit on browse just go to the actual ISO file so the tempting a bundled installation so this is the bundle installation ok so we can see a disk image file we can select this file this is in a nice oh yeah nice Oh image you can select this file here open we can map the drive and then you have to reboot the server I'm sure the difference between warm pool and cold boot but you have to reboot this over that's the way you do the NF v as installation once NF es is installed it will you have to log in with the default credentials which I believe is admin and I think it's Cisco one two three hash I believe but anyway so just log in with the default credentials when FV is it will prompt you to change the credentials so once you change the credentials will be inside NF e is the next step then is to assign an IP address to NF e is so the best way to do that is first of all we will use the management port on the TNCs so connect a network cable from the management port and then just type quantity and it will wave the command system settings management interface and you can assign a static IP address to enter the default gateway the command is system settings I believe it's IP default gateway but I'll show you the command so once this n Fe is booted up once you assign the IP address to n Feis remember in teens NFC is means you need to press type in commit enter that will commit the change and then you will be able to access the NFC is either through the SSH or via the web interface as well um you can also access the LFC is console yr the CNC okay I'll show you that as well and I was expecting to see in the CIS console by connecting directly to the console port or the en CS but actually I did not get any output so I'm not really sure what's the purpose of the console port I did read the documentation and it states that if you install the bundle image of NFC is and Vivas and you connect to the console port or NCS it will give you the wash console however in my case I was doing a vnf installation which means I was installing NFC I s and V are separately so not really sure what is expected to be seen in such a case when you connect to the console port okay you you okay so as you can see my NFC is has booted up I'm going to login with the credentials and there you go so this is the CLI to a show run as you can see oops I think I went past it there you go so system settings management IP address that's the command for setting the IP address of nav is provided your you have connected network cables to their management port which I do recommend you do system settings default gateway that's the default gateway as well as usual you can ping and double check that you do have the connectivity as well you can SSH as I said to the NFC is but let's go to the web interface um so web interface is 13 so this is a very interface proceed and this is the GUI I will enter the same credentials that are entered on the CLI and inside NFB is okay as I said if we can also access the console of NFV is from CMC this is nothing new I've seen this on other platforms as well so let's login to let me open buddy the configuration alright so 10 190 7.2 40 6.30 oh sorry this is nfe is I'm going to cmcm ssh into the CMC IP address so this is he NZ if you just put the CMC password you and xenon so what you can do is I believe it's cool scope so real scope soul and then connect host if once you do that say this is the NFB is oops this is the NFC is console there you go so I'm now in Fe is however just remember that I mean the repeater show you that I'm on anything as well to the running configuration of an Fe is I'm gonna exit out of here I'm here to press as they say here controls X and one thing you should note here is you need this Cisco serial over land enabled and I believe you can if it's disabled you can actually do set sorry it not anybody else yeah correct set anybody yes if you do ahead and even know again here after do a commit as well so it's now disabled now if I do connect host it will say Cisco 0 over LAN disabled ok I'm going to label this first click commit I'm gonna exit out of here now [Music] how do a great NFA is so easy way to do that is go to hosts I'm grade yep so here right it is [Music] click here click on the file let's go to ass sorry non-vash let's go to n Feis and this is these are upgrade images rate so I can double click here it will say uploading uploading uploading once uploaded it will show up below and let's also have if such access to NFB is you you you you you you you you you you yes 90 cent to 46 months so yeah this is uploaded now you see this little refresh button here you can click that you I think it does take some time in before it populates that's wait you you because you can click somewhere else and later upgrade package registration successful just good um let's go to the back to the page so it says your status is valid okay so this this is the thing we are waiting for and you can now select that image there you can say upgrade now or upgrade later okay if you to update now and start upgrade it will begin the upgrade process okay now one thing is this is the GUI method there is a CLI method as well where you can by which you can do the upgrade it is documented but the thing I realized is by default the SCP where you'll not be able to SCP to the NFB is to transfer the image okay um but before that let me show you this file vnav is where it is there's actually a command here show system while this right that actually we expand this this is going to tell you the it's going to show us the files that we've uploaded on the NFB is okay you can actually use this comma and to check that so all the files they believe will get uploaded under data in store uploads so data logs will review these are not the files which you uploaded but yeah there you go this is one file this is the cisco k v mb vas 643 8 image and this one is the packaging tool which comes by default okay so you can actually check whether your file is uploaded from here you can also do it from the GUI I believe so but for that you need to go to the VM lifecycle image repository and browse data store and you see the essentially the same thing right so uploads is having B see this is two files and the logs are over here you can download the logs you can delete the logs it's up to you what you want to do right USB upload is interesting I'll try this out and maybe create another video for USB upload because it obviously needs to physical access to the device so by the way this is the page incidentally where you would upload your VM image for if you want to do VM deployment over NFC is ok so yeah so I do have an image here I'm just going to delete it but just to show you guys have deleted the image that should automatically delete the profiles as well so these are vast profiles there you go profile deletion successful so now all the profiles are deleted from the glass I can refresh this and I see nothing right so again this is the VM image not this is not the place for the NFB is image in FBI is image you have to go to host so where as so again so basically for the for the nfe is I have an FES 3.10 here so let's say I want to deploy grass on it 6 4 3 e at a I need to download KVM devious image again KBS and BMPs image from CCO will be a tar file you need to extract the tar file inside the extraction of the tar file you will have a or GZ file that's the file that you need to upload ok this one this is the tar.gz file ok do not upload the tar file directly let you download from CCO ok that will not work so again let me just upload a file and show you so well so this was the file I got from CCO this is a tar file this is not a tar.gz file oh sorry this is the Tartar jesus file maybe i kept it somewhere else then this is the one this is the file I download from CCO this is only a tar file i extracted that file here and it gave me this okay so I'll select this I will hit there's nothing else here only one data store I hit start by the way in case you're wondering what this is this is the help video that explained how to deploy a VM it basically does the same thing what I'm doing here [Music] so I need to figure out the networking of the VM itself we are the e NCS so maybe we will have another video that will explain that but essentially once this upload is finishes we should see all the various profiles below here like we saw earlier and then we can go to this deploy tab and deploy the VM okay I'll just wait for the upload to finish meanwhile as I was saying you can also if you want to upgrade nfe is you can also use SCP to copy the the upgrade file to the NFC is the file as usual gets trans gets copied to that slash data store slash uploads folder the only catch here is you need to do a configuration on the NFC is in order to allow the SCP copy to happen um so the file the vivaz image has been uploaded and there you go it has it now it's going to show the profiles okay um one thing is as regarding the SCP sorry regarding the SCP copy that I was talking about so you need to configure something here so I believe it is gone 50 system system settings so I think yeah okay yeah it is IP receive a co ok source you can allow anything if you want but try to be specific so I think you can go like this for any I think this is it much let me just double check that's all you need [Music] Oh okay again don't forget the comment so she's mine three four okay so I think there's a syntax error here blue you see so it's not a valid loving you at the settings you see museum yes commit okay actually you can you can put this service like I'm doing here and on let me fix this so yeah this is the actual command so once I do this um only then you will be able to SCP to the NFB is okay I don't forget this because I was wondering why am I not able to SCP to the Neffe is um so yeah um and if you want to negate this command you can remove it um just do a no I don't think we need this service for now let's do no yeah and there you go commit and that's it just feel the things before you wind up because this video is getting very long so so the NCS if you want to pull out a tech support sorry from the NFB is you can do tech support enter this will not send any output to the screen it's going to create the tech support under that folder which we were looking at earlier right so image repository browser restore here see it's created a tech support folder so the temporary files I guess [Music] so this is the temporary file that is see here that it's getting created so ultimately once yeah so the tech support is just complete by the way there you go this is it so now if I do a refresh I will see only the tech support output this is the file you can just download the file onto your local desktop here like this okay and you can not sure if you can do this to CLI I mean I'm sure there's a way but need to figure out excuse me so I'm gonna delete this file um yeah one more thing is resource allocation so the important thing that disk allocation so so for with with respect to e NC as an NF e is I need to buy so you can you need an internal storage which will be an SSD drive I believe the part ID has m2 in it so you can procure a an m2 SSD drive and insert it inside the chassis if you want to check the capacity of that drive so in my case as you can see here I have a 64 GB SSD drive and this Cal occation 20 which means 20 GB has been consumed by any fee is itself and 2 GB by something else so we only have 43 GB free which means like which is really not enough to install anything on this box frankly maybe maybe we can install some Linux or Windows VMs but definitely not be you ass um so if you wanna check the internal storage believe you can actually a command you you you you yeah you can run a show system fdisk okay so show system fdisk will help you get the storage the internal storage details so you can see here 64gb right these two partitions remember it said that 2g be used by something else so maybe I mean maybe that this is the one I'm not really sure about that but yeah so it's got two partitions SGD 1sg STD - that's the linux LVM and this is the root partition and so on so that's one check it by the way in case you got someone's coming from the next world in Linux we have a command or DF half an edge you can actually run that command I'll get that output from within this shell as well so we have support show and we have all these commands so if you run DF you will get the output of DF - H you could also run another important command is net stat TCP which is basically nothing but net start command remember I said that SCP so SCP listens on triple - double - port to make sure it's listening HTTP 443 so you can you know there's some good information here actually which you can do and there a lot of other things as well - I mean we really have to sit in I would look so this is the ARP entry when GM checking the management interface int - land - 363 is having the 169 254 I address but there's no cables connected here not sure what that is maybe some internal IP being used we have a tool I probably need to give the interface name [Music] so I'm putting MGMT so I'm getting some useful stats as well right so this is the good information remember the NCS can can also take external drives okay in case I want to get information on the external drives I can type show system external disks this means no entries found means my box does not have any external hard drives ok I will be inserting some external hard drives in the future and our run this command again and we shall see the difference and lastly before we wind up so the e NCS comes with RAID controller which is software based wait rate I mean it doesn't come with the controller sorry it does a software-based raid you can order a hardware controller which will give you better performance the NCS can take in two external drives which means we can either two individual drives like a jaybird or we can set it up as a red one in case we want protection from one disk failure in case you don't have the dedicated controller inside your box one you can if you run this there's an output that you can run I get well you can check it from the GUI as well actually if I go to the GUI CAMC can go here there is storage so storage is I just observed that storage it returns nothing and also if I go to compute I can go to [Music] I think it's not it's not in computer inventory we go to storage and no data available this in my opinion I think this means that we don't have the controller inside the box so I will be inserting a controller in the future I will again check this output and hopefully we should see some difference as well I don't think there's any command here to check the to ship the controller information from inside mmm in the CIA Chen okay yeah there is a story trolling okay let's check that in trees found yeah so this confirms it that [Music] there is no storage controller so these are just Linux commands I think this is stopped again top out put it on so yeah that's it guys um so I hope you enjoyed this my first video on Ian Tiff's and hopefully we should have some more videos coming your way yeah thank you you you
