News conference: Fatal crash investigation (June 7, 2024)

this afternoon and I'm going to share with you what is horribly tragic and and certainly very very sad it started just after midnight last night on 42nd Street Northwest which is the Inwood area of unincorporated Winter Haven I want to introduce you to Robert Harrington Robert Harrington's 24 years of age he lives in BTO and he's a welder and in the 2100 block of 42nd Street he was northbound and as he was traveling north on 42nd Street he crossed over a double yellow line into the southbound lanes and struck a black Caravan head on after he struck this black Caravan head on the it's the crash slid down the side of the Caravan and then they spun into this position you see here where the Caravan is totally destroyed there was a 5-year-old baby appropriately seat belted behind mom who was the driver of the Caravan and the child was instantly killed the only thing that gives you any and it's not really a source of comfort but the child died instantly absolutely instantly the child didn't suffer but this 5-year-old baby's life was snuffed out because Robert Harrison was drunk and driving he read a point1 two on the breathalyzer the driver of the vehicle which was the baby's mama Jacqueline uh Nichols is in critical condition and had to undergo emergency surgery the passenger Justin Jones who's 3 33 is also in critical condition and had to go undergo emergency surgery and of course meline Nichols the baby is deceased the suspect was treated and released from the hospital he was in a big Ford F350 pickup truck he's charged with DUI manslaughter DUI serious bodily injury two counts DUI property damage two counts DUI and we also violated his probation for trespass passing there's absolutely no evidence at the scene that he ever tried to break or avoid the crash he drifted over the double yellow line and hit head on totally destroying the Caravan our heart and prayers go out to the family of our baby that lost her life and we can assure everyone that Robert Harrison will fill the full impact of the Criminal Justice System we will do everything we can to do to send him to prison for a very very long time because of his stupidness of drinking and driving then this Baby's life's been snuffed out and that's totally unacceptable any questions do he have any prior we don't see any prior DUIs other than the trespassing which apparently he might have been cited for we don't actually see a physical arrest for the trespassing quick clarification the mail Passenger not the baby or not the little girl's father correct I don't know but they'll check it out okay bad deal should never have happened take care see y'all later
