Disney World has been making lots of new rules lately some good some not so good so what band items and actions should you know about before your big trip find out today on dfb guys [Music] hey everybody it's aj4 Disney food blog we're about to lay out all the new rules of the World the Disney World whether it be for safety reasons business matters or general respect for everyone's vacation Disney has had several motives to ban these things from their Parks but since you're here and watching today's video you'll no longer have to stress over whether you're a rule breaker or a rule follower inside the most magical place on Earth First up is gadgets and gizmos on Space Mountain so Space Mountain is not a picturesque ride in the first place what with you speeding around in Pitch Blackness the entire time but just in case you wanted to try getting some dark pictures or footage of this Magic Kingdom coaster Disney's recently put an end to that at the end of last year Disney banned using handheld items like your phone or camera while riding Space Mountain now this is the case for a few other rides in Disney World in Disneyland as well from now on those items must be secured on your person such as in your pocket put in the side storage pouch or left with someone from your group who's decided not to ride it's not really clear what the final straw was for Disney that made them put this new rule into effect but what we can say about this phone camera ban is that it'll help decrease the number of lost items on this ride daily and by daily I mean literally daily every single day so many things are lost on this ride many guests assume as soon they can keep a solid hold on their items during Space Mountain because it's but that doesn't mean Space Mountain is a smooth ride one sharp corner or sudden dip when you least expect it could be the difference between having your phone in hand and losing it to the void so if a cast member is telling you to put away your device at the start of the ride just do it if you want some sort of documentation of your Space Mountain Journey post ride there is an in-ride photo that'll be taken of your ride vehicle Posse that'll be available to purchase afterwards or starting on March 20th if you purchase Disney Genie plus to gain lightning Lane access for the rides you'll also get free PhotoPass digital downloads all day long for the attraction photos that are taken of you and your group in Magic Kingdom this means you'll not only get a complimentary picture from Space Mountain but Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin Haunted Mansion Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Pirates of the Caribbean something else Disney has banned recently bad attitudes yeah for real Disney recently added a new rule on their website which you can find under there preparing for your visit page along with reminding guests to make theme park reservations study up on the latest health and safe 50 measures and download the My Disney Experience app to make your trip 10 times easier there's now a fourth reminder that's simply called courtesy under this rule Disney tells guests to be the magic you want to see in the world quote unquote and when you click on the read more option Disney goes on to say that guests must always remember to treat others with respect kindness and compassion those who can't live up to this simple wish may be asked to leave Walt Disney World Resort my guess is this is based on how cast members retreated during the pandemic when they were required to remind guests to put their masks back on getting frustrated about a ride closure or long lines or missing a dining reservation is understandable that Disney wants to make sure someone's disappointment or exhaustion isn't taken out on other guests or cast members if you feel like your frustration meter is starting to reach a boiling point this might be a good time to step out of the parks take a breather maybe go sit on one of the resort beach sides for a bit maybe even take a quick cat nap and food break back in your hotel room you'll be amazed at just how quickly your attitude can improve after you get out of the Sun get some AC rehydrate fuel your body and get some much needed rest but all in all the most important thing to remember is to be kind to everybody to keep the Magic Kingdom magical next thing that Disney has been cracking down on and started to put out a lot more signage for is parking where you don't belong you want to check out what's happening at Disney's Deluxe Resorts even if you're not actually staying there totally fine but you may not be able to park at them anymore ever since the 2020 closures Disney really started to crack down on guests visiting the resorts at first the rules were super strict only guests staying in a room at a certain Resort or guests who'd previously made an advanced dining reservation for one of the table service restaurants would be allowed passage into the hotels nowadays things are a lot less strict and you can Resort hop but you still can't park your car in a Disney hotel parking lot if you're not an actual guest of the resort meaning you're staying there or you have a dining reservation there this this is something that Disney has sort of always tried to make happen but until the closures and the pandemic and the whole health and safety situation they never really drove it home or consistently enforced it now we're seeing it enforced all the time this is to help make sure parking spots are plentiful for guests paying for rooms there and to make sure other people staying off property aren't trying to quote unquote cheat the system and get out of paying for parking at the Disney theme parks so what can you do if you want to do some Resort hopping on a day you're not visiting one of the parks you got a few options option one the table service reservation rule does still apply if you make a dining reservations for a restaurant at one of the resorts you'll just drive up to the front gate of the hotel find a cast member who will be able to scan your magic band or key to the world card and let you in option two start your day at Disney Springs Disney Springs is completely free to park at once you park there you can take a resort bus to any of the hotels you're wanting to visit option three either stay at or travel to a resort that has direct means of transportation to other connecting resorts for example if you travel to Disney's Polynesian Village Resort Grand Floridian or Disney's contemporary resort you'll be able to visit all three just by hopping on the monorail Loop and if you go to a hotel like Disney's Art of Animation Pop Century Riviera Caribbean Beach or any of the Epcot area resorts like the Boardwalk Inn or yacht Beach Club you'll be able to use the Skyliner to visit each of these locations and their different offerings just keep in mind that though restaurants and certain activities will be available for you to experience even if you're not a guest you won't be able to use the resort pools or the fitness centers next thing Disney is Banning is those single use Plastics the toiletries the plastic Lids the straws Disney is working to get rid of them all back in 2019 Disney committed to reducing single-use Plastics around Disney destinations worldwide additionally Disney's also pulling back on their use of polystyrene cups and plastic shopping bags when these announcements were originally made former CEO Bob chapac stated that eliminating plastic straws and other plastic items are meaningful steps in Disney's long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship because of these steps Disney can now turn toward long-term sustainability goals and reduce their environmental footprint that's why you're going to start noticing things during your next trip like reusable shampoo and conditioner bottles locked into the shower walls even a Grand Floridian paper and sugar cane straws and missing plastic Lids of course if these new straws and the refillable toiletries aren't your favorite you're more than welcome to pack your own reusable supplies to use on property just keep in mind that there is a significant ban on plastic straws in Disney's Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge because plastic straws and Lids pose a threat to the wildlife that can be found around the park so to prevent the plastic from Landing in an animal enclosure Disney's going to ask you to get rid of your plastic straws immediately if you have one now I personally have tried all kinds of different reusable straws like Silicon straws and stainless steel straws and what I find is in Disney World I don't really have a way to wash them as often as I would want to so I end up buying and using straws that are called fade p-h-a-d-e those are straws you can get on Amazon and they are Marine biodegradable straws so I use those when I travel that's just what I use and figured I'd let you know now here's a rule I'd like to see at all Quick Service locations when connections Cafe and Eatery opened in Epcot last year it became a great fast food option for those looking to dine on something that wouldn't break the bank it also provided guests with a Starbucks fix if they were starting to get a little shaky without their daily vanilla a latte and for those of us who travel with younger kids who just can't live without chicken tenders that's where you're gonna get them in Epcot but connections Cafe needed to put a rule in place for all future guests in order to manage capacity and demand now only guests who order and have their food in their hands at this quick service area are able to grab a seat in the main dining room otherwise you're not allowed to take up an entire table just to enjoy a coffee or take a quick break in the AC now connections Eatery has a ton of tables with that doesn't mean they can't fill up quickly so if you're looking to grab a meal here you'll have to make sure your food is in hand first before you track down a table no saving seats is allowed if you're just looking for a moment of respite without having to pay for an entire meal that you're not wanting then there's plenty of seating in connections Cafe that's over on the Starbucks side of the building now if everything's full and you still need a place to get away check the Odyssey The Odyssey building's been used for several things over the past few years but more on often lately you're going to find it housing seasonal Festival booths and souvenirs it's also a decent pit stop if you're needing a bathroom break without all the extra crowds The Odyssey building has both an indoor and outdoor restroom location but the indoor one always seems to be way less busy during the day and that's not all the Odyssey building is also where you're going to find first aid and the baby care center too so many resources in such an underrated location The Odyssey building is a little off the beaten path but you'll be able to track it down between test track and the Mexico Pavilion next thing Disney has banned and added an extra ban on top of is distasteful t-shirts so bad attitudes aren't the only offensive things guests will be asked to not bring into the parks sometimes the closed guests wear could also give off the wrong message that Disney doesn't want advertised around their family-friendly environment according to the Disney World website Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing a tire that they consider inappropriate or a tire that could detract from the experience of other guests now the big change here is that that doesn't mean you can test the limits and see what you can get away with because if Disney doesn't find your outfit appropriate for the parks they're not going to give you a new shirt for free like unfortunately was a tick tock Trend a while back instead you'll either have to go all the way back to your room to change or you'll have to buy a shirt from one of their pricey gift shops to switch into to check out the whole list of different guests courtesy and attire policies before your trip just head over to the Walt Disney World Resort property rules page on their website but as a basic rule of thumb if you think the shirt you're packing might be towing a line there leave it behind because why make your expensive vacation overly complicated for yourself and your other members in your group when you can just as easily avoid all that extra mess and cost the next thing is something you probably don't think about very much you've just kind of Gone With the Flow and seen how things changed in Disney World and how ticket media has become very very different gone are the days when you can just buy a Disney World Park ticket like a literal physical ticket and be set to go now there are multiple steps you need to take to secure your spot in the Parks ever since the parks reopened after the coveted closures Disney has required guests to use a park pass reservation right this system forces guests to schedule which Disney parks are going to be visiting on each day of their trip so after they buy their tickets they have to move on to step two and essentially save their spot in each of the parks without a reservation it doesn't matter if you paid for your tickets or not you won't be let through the gate initially Disney put this system in effect to help manage crowd capacity when they were still needing to abide by those social distancing measures but now Disney keeps the system around because it helps them see how many guests are planning on entering the parks on any given day and managing how many they're going to let into the parks on any given day that helps them plan ahead for how many cast members they'll need to schedule and what those surge prices need to be set at it can also let other guests know and certain Parks have reached their capacity ahead of time that way you're not going to show up at the parks on one of those extremely busy days and be completely Blind Side did when you're turned away at the front Gates you can check park pass availability via the park pass calendar before you buy your tickets just so you can make sure the days you're wanting to visit are still wide open park pass reservations can be Mighty frustrating for many since it takes away a lot of the flexibility and spontaneity that you used to have when planning a Disney vacation now in order to guarantee your spot in the park you have to buy your tickets and book your park pass reservations months in advance especially for Magic Kingdom which is about to see a huge influx of guests at the start of April when Tron lightcycle run officially opens on April 4th and happily ever after returns for the fireworks on April 3rd but not every ticket option nowadays requires you to make a park pass reservation ahead of time starting April 18th Annual Pass holders can enter the Disney World theme parks after 2 pm without a park pass reservation but there is an important exception this will not apply to pass holders seeking to visit Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays because like I said Magic Kingdom is popping and it gets especially busy on the weekends if you're going to be buying a one day One Park ticket only Disney also recently updated their ticketing system so that these tickets are now park specific when you buy these tickets they'll automatically come with a park pass reservation and potentially a higher price so no need to worry about making that reservation yourself lastly if you buy a ticket for a separately ticketed event like one of the holiday parties or after hours events you generally don't need a park pass to attend that being said the events do specify when guests can start to arrive in the park for example with after hours events which lets you stay in the park three hours after they close for everyone else you can still enter the park as early as 7 PM or later using the event ticket with no park pass necessary but if you want to enter the parks earlier than 7 on that event date you will need a valid Park ticket for the day and park pass reservation to do so okay one more instance for you and then I swear I'm done if you're using a park hopper add-on you do not need to make a reservation for the second third fourth Etc Parks you hop over to you only need a park pass for the first Park you'll be visiting that day there see super easy and not confusing at all but yeah for the most part Disney has banned entering the parks with just a ticket and no reservation now something else that Disney has actually put on their website and banned in Disney World is feeding the Disney animals now I know how tempting it can be to want to feed the Disney birds that you see waddling and strutting around the parks especially when they give you those big sad eyes of theirs but trust us it is better to leave them feeling temporarily disappointed than to give in not only does feeding the birds or any other Wildlife that pops up on the Disney scene for that matter force them to go against their nature and rely more on human provision rather than their own instincts to help them Hunt and Gather but it also makes these animals way more aggressive soon they won't just be begging for food they'll be swiping it right off your plate we've literally had it happen if you're worried about animal Antics or if you feel like you'll just be way too tempted to cave and hand them a small snack or two out of your Fry Basket then you may want to stick with those indoor Quick Service locations instead but even if you do eat outside and you're approached by pair of big sad eyes just remember that these animals are healthy happy and well taken care of and they'll be just fine without a bite of your chicken tender now this is a very interesting development in Disney World and something that not a lot of people are aware of but could be kind of freaked out by Disney has banned complete and total privacy a subtle change was made to the Disney Resorts a little while ago instead of door signs reading do not disturb which you could put outside when you wanted to catch a few extra Z's or if you didn't want anyone popping into your room while you were out the door Signs Now read room occupied so what's the difference well the do not disturb sign was an instruction but the room occupied sign is a notification do not disturb signal to cast members that a guest didn't want them to enter their room until the sign was taken down but after some Hotel safety concerns happened at a hotel in the Las Vegas area Disney was quick to change their own hotel room policy now a cast member must enter a guest's hotel room every 24 hours regardless of the room occupied sign just to keep other guests and cast members in the resort safe so the new signage lets cast members know that guests would prefer privacy but also allows them to enter into the room if they absolutely have to with no legal ramifications now this one is kind of interesting and you probably didn't know about it you cannot bring your own transportation Methods at least not most of them scooters bikes rollerblades skateboards wheelie shoes none of those can join you in the Disney World parks Disney doesn't want guests to wipe out or speed into other guests while using these modes of transportation so all means of getting around that could easily morph into an impromptu extreme sport have to be left in your garage back home but that doesn't mean you have to be totally bike free on your Disney vacation there are actually multiple bike rental locations around Disney World Resorts that allow you to leisurely ride around the Resort's lakesides and Woodland Trails these rental locations can be found at Caribbean Beach Old Key West Port Orleans Resort Saratoga Springs Wilderness Lodge and the cabins and campsites at Fort Wilderness Resort a few of these rental locations including another rental location over at Disney's Boardwalk in also have two or four person Surrey bikes available with options that can accommodate kids and adults alike so this next thing that's been banned in Disney World is super weird until you kind of understand it it's Disney made an official rule in 2019 that loose and dry ice were banned from the Parks when the ban officially happened Disney stated that this new rule would help streamline security bag check and entry processes ease congestion and improve guest flow but what if you're trying to bring something in the park that you want to keep cool what then well if something needs to be kept Frozen then you're out of luck you'll need to keep food like that back in your hotel room freezer if you have one but if you're just trying to keep something cool Disney recommends using reusable ice packs instead now reusable ice packs can be easily stored in your hotel room's fridge and mini fridges and help keep sandwiches and veggies cool in your insulated lunch bags while you're roaming around the parks as for drinks insulated water bottles are also a great way to keep your water from going lukewarm throughout the day but don't forget you can also get free cups of ice cold water at most of the Quick Service locations too so you can get ice in the Parks you just can't bring it into the parks I know weird now along with all that park pass stuff Disney also made a big change to park hopping you are now no longer allowed to park hop in the morning if you're looking to ride Slinky Dog Dash in Hollywood Studios at 8 30 a.m then hop on over for a breakfast pastry in Epcot at nine sorry my friends no can do another thing taken from us after the 2020 closures was the ability to freely Park hop whenever and wherever we wanted now park hopping doesn't go into effect until after 2PM each day and you cannot park hop before that as long as park pass reservations are around those parkhopper rules will more than likely be sticking around too because the park pass reservations require you to enter the park that you made your reservation for first and Disney's not going to want guests to cheat the system by stepping over the threshold of Animal Kingdom to satisfy their park pass reservation only to turn immediately around and head to the originally blocked out Magic Kingdom for the rest of the day that being said Park can still be super useful despite this new time restraint you can still squeeze in hours into a second or third Park visit before the end of the day but just be mindful of travel time and make sure the way you're going about Park hopping really makes sense and helps you get the most out of that extra expense per ticket for example the best parks to hop between Are Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot since they're both located on the Skyliner route and super easy to even walk between Epcot and Magic Kingdom are also good parks to hop between since the Epcot monorail and the Magic Kingdom monorail cross over there at the transportation and Ticket Center but traveling between Parks like Disney's Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom is gonna eat a good chunk of your afternoon with just travel time alone what makes it even worse is if you're traveling from Animal Kingdom to Magic Kingdom in your own car because it's not just going to take you the time to drive over there you're also going to have to park and possibly take a tram to the TTC and then get a monorail or ferry from the TTC just to make it to the Magic Kingdom front Gates it's not unheard of for this kind of trip to take two hours depending on how about the trash traffic is that day so like I said before you add Park Hoppers to your tickets make sure your game plan makes sense and legitimately helps you maximize your part time now 2019 was the year Disney had a lot of new rules go into effect and one of those completely removed smoking from inside the parks including e-cigarettes and vape pens too however this doesn't mean there's no smoking allowed anywhere on Disney property there are smoking areas provided outside the main entrances of the theme parks at specific areas outside the hotels and in select spots around Disney Springs you can always ask a cast member where these designated smoking areas are located or you can find them on the My Disney Experience app just type in the designated smoking areas into mde search engine and tap on the find on map button to see a complete list of options available around property next if you need to bring a stroller or a wheelchair or an ecv to Disney World Disney's 110 okay with that but these extra Mobility vehicles have guidelines too for starters and a trailer-like object that's being pushed pulled or towed by one of these Mobility Vehicles is not allowed you are not allowed to become your own parade in Disney World stroller wagons are also not allowed in the Parks again to help prevent those bottlenecking paths and all other regular strollers must be 31 inches or less in width than 52 inches in length or smaller to enter the theme parks fortunately for parents with multiple younger kids and Tomo strollers including many popular double jogging strollers do still fit Within These guidelines but if you want to make sure the mobility vehicle that you'll be traveling with around the park is up to Disney standards you can always purchase a stroller wheelchair or ecv at one of the Park's rental locations toward the entrance keep in mind that ecv rentals do have a refundable security deposit that you'll need to pay on top of the ecv price which costs an extra 20 bucks in the Parks and an extra hundred dollars at Disney Springs and the water parks you'll receive these deposits back when you return your ecv to the rental counter at the end of the day but also note renting ecvs could be a hassle on busy days because they do sell out quickly the next thing that's banned in Disney World drones so these neat little flying robotic devices are not allowed to hover over Disney World so sorry no aerial shots in the park for you some sections of Disney world including the Magic Kingdom Hearts of Epcot and some of the resort areas too are official no-fly zones but even if you're not directly standing in one of those no-fly zones then no drone Rule still applies everywhere inside the Disney bubble why well for the same reason as many of the entries on this list Disney's just trying to keep people safe but that doesn't mean you're not going to get any good photos and videos while you're still planted firmly on the ground PhotoPass cast members can help you get solid pictures of your family's good sides in front of those iconic Park beacons or picture-perfect lands if you're cool with paying for one or multiple professional pictures you can buy photo pass photos from The Memory Maker section on your My Disney Experience app or on the Disney World website and if you really want to get that drone like shot Disney even has select super zoom magic shot opportunities these are animated pictures that get a close-up of your family then literally Zoom back to get an entire shot of the area you're standing in it's a really neat effect granted you can't put this type of picture up on your fridge or anything but it's still fun to slap up on your social media to brag about where you've been super zooms can be found in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom near the Millennium Falcon it's Star Wars Galaxy's edge around the Everest Riverside Theater at Disney's Animal Kingdom and in front of spaceship earth at Epcot but if you'd rather get a free picture of your group by just using your own phone ask the PhotoPass photographer if they'll be able to do that for you instead more than likely it'll be no problem just remember to say cheese now we talked about ticket media a little bit earlier when we were talking about the fact that now you need park pass reservations and not just a ticket to get into the parks but did you know that up until 2004 Disney World tickets had no expiration date that menu could buy one and not use it until years later if you didn't want to in fact if you're still holding on to one of those Park tickets with no issued expiration date you can still technically go to Disney World with it right now I still remember when you could buy that ticket and use it for multiple years of Disney World trips but nowadays Park tickets definitely have a set lifespan a big part of why those Everlasting Park tickets got the axes because of online resellers sure online resellers could buy tickets themselves and resell them on third-party sites like eBay but what was really problematic about the whole reselling thing was the fact that if you were to have accidentally lost your Park ticket resellers could scoop it up and sell that too since again there'd be no expiration date for them to have to worry about this is also why the digital fingerprint scanners were put in place too to prevent someone else swiping your pass and using it for themselves the first time you see a fingerprint scanner for your trip which you'll have to do immediately after you scan your Park ticket the scanner will take an image of your finger and turn it into a unique number for its system this number allows you to be easily identified as the sole Keeper of the park ticket that you'll be using for the duration of your trip that way when you visit the parks on different days or Park hop if you need to leave the park for a bit and return later on in the day that numerical value attached to your fingerprint will let Disney's system know hey we remember this person and they're totally allowed to use this particular ticket depending on how many Park tickets you're planning on purchasing that'll determine how long your ticket's lifespan actually is for example in the case of a 10-day ticket your tickets will expire 14 days after your selected Park date in which you must use all your tickets within that set amount of time now let's say your Park ticket does expire does that mean you can get the money you spent on it back well it doesn't quite work that way because once you purchase a park ticket you can't get it refunded what you can do however is use those expired tickets as a credit toward any future Park tickets you might want to buy you'll just have to make sure the price for the new ticket you end up getting is equal to or higher than the price you originally paid so imitation might be flattery but Disney does have their limits on how much imitation they allow inside their Parks costumes aren't allowed in Disney for guests ages 14 and older and that's because Disney doesn't want any hardcore confusion going on for others even if you are able to completely take on Belle's Persona and you have the perfect outfit that looks just like hers Disney already has Bell in their Parks ready to meet with guests your job is to have fun so leave the meet and greets to the actual characters unless that is you're planning on going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party this fall we don't have exact dates for this party yet but in the past guests have always been able to dress up like their favorite characters during this Magic Kingdom after hours event just make sure you're not not claiming to be the actual character during the party no signing autographs and taking photos remember this is all still play pretend so there's no need to confuse anybody and have them second guessing which Elsa or guest on is the real one and don't forget even if you can't carbon copy the look of your favorite character on normal Park days doesn't mean you can't wear an outfit inspired by them Disney bounding is a big deal for many guests and allows you to do a way more low-key and subtle cosplay of the characters you love for example Bria does this all the time she wears a red and white floral pattern dress and carries around her Stitch backpack to show off her love for one of her favorite movies of all time Lilo and Stitch you could also wear a tee that shows off your favorite Disney characters and in fact we've got lots of Disney character inspired teas featured on the dfbstore website right now they range from characters like Tiana figment even Sunny Eclipse so if you want to show your love for these fan favorites while also sporting off a completely unique outfit check out dfbstore.com and we'll hook you up so following the rules at
