hey everybody as you may know over the last few weeks and through the month of september so many amazing books are coming out this is going to be a time of books we want to read so today i'm here to talk to you about new releases that i am 100 sure you were gonna want on your tbr so without further ado we better get started [Music] hi everybody welcome back to my channel it's russell with thinking paper blog how are you doing today as always i hope you're happy i hope you're healthy i hope you're safe and of course i hope you're reading an amazing book or two or three i have to say i am just returning from some time off i'm actually finding it very hard to even film this video this is not the first time i've tried um i'm just having a hard time talking about books because i'm sort of in that i gotta go back to work tomorrow you know how that is mindset and i need to stop that and i need to talk books with everybody because there are so many amazing titles that you are going to want to read i promise so as always get out your pen get out your paper get out your goodreads however you keep track of your tbr if you are so able please order these books from your local independent bookstore and or if you're a library user get your name on that list because some of these books are big big names and you're going to want to be on it soon but you know it can take a little bit of time when you are waiting for a book from the library makes it even more exciting when it comes in doesn't it okay so first we're going to talk about a couple of big name books that are coming out or have just come out and we're going to start with sally rooney's new book beautiful world where are you out from fsg this came out i believe last week um i'm not going to talk too much about it because ryan of read by ryan and i are actually filming this week a full review of just this title but basically this is the story of the relationship between two women who met in college alice is a very famous writer who has gone through some mental health issues been to hospital and has decided to move outside of dublin to the country to sort of just you know re rest relax and recharge um and her best friend who is eileen is still in dublin she works for a literary magazine uh alice meets a man on an app um named felix who works in a warehouse has always sort of lived in this little town and they start to develop this relationship and then eileen gets um starts a relationship with a man named simon who she's actually known since she was very little he was a neighbor and um they have had a very complicated past and an even more complicated future to come but what happens is the book is really a dialogue between these two women's regarding um fame um relationships love own sort of self-identity and self-worth self-awareness and also how like this relying on others to sort of figure out where your arrow points your compass points um and whether or not that's healthy or not it's so very much more complicated than that but i'm trying not to ruin it so you'll watch our review video but i will say i'm a sally rooney stan i did enjoy this book very much and i think you need to read beautiful world where are you out from fsg here in the us as soon as possible okay coulson whitehead is an author that needs no introduction but his new book harlem shuffle comes out i believe on the 14th so let me just make sure yes on the 14th so next week i'm actually halfway through this one this is my current read um this is a very different book for um me at least when i read colson whitehead it's just a little more um caper you know what that what i mean by that this is the story of ray akarni he is a um black man in harlem who owns a furniture rush furniture store i keep wanting to say furniture restaurant which makes no sense um but he has sort of changed the direction of his life he was raised by a single father who was involved in some illegal activity however he is known to and has family and people he is aware of that still do illegal things and what happens is he winds up getting involved in this um this theft uh due to his cousin that has repercussions for him in the future and basically what we're doing here is we're watching a man who is dealing with this sort of that that thriller aspect of people stealing things him getting in trouble on the hunt for people who are hunting him but also this is a man who has a wife and a young child at home and another one on the way that's really just striving to make a better life for his family and get them out of the situation they're in i mean they're happy but you know he wants to rent a bigger apartment he wants to give them more space he wants to expand his business um but people continue to sort of throw wrenches or throw obstacles in his way it has it's you know i said this in my instagram post while reading this coulson always has a sense of heart to his books which you can always sort of feel um he tugs them he stomps on it a little bit he also has beautiful writing beautiful characters and just so much complexity to his work i'm really enjoying this one so this is coulson whitehead's harlem shuffle out from doubleday on september 14th okay a book that actually came out i believe today it came out today because i went and purchased my copy is lauren groff's new novel matrix now i'm just a lauren groff fan so i would absolutely buy everything that she puts out her last book i believe was the collection of short stories florida right which was shortlisted for the national book award and then the book before that was fates and furies which i also believe was shortlisted for the national book award if i am not mistaken um but you know what's funny is i don't know a whole lot about this book and the blurb does not tell you i know from what people have said this book has nuns in it i know that um but if you read the blurb and i'm just gonna read you what it says it says um matrix is a defiant and timely exploration of the raw power of female privity great creativity in a corrupt world um matrix gathers currents of violence sensuality and religious ecstasy and a mesmerizing portrait of consuming passion aberrant faith and a woman whom history moves both through and around so that is so vague which makes me so very excited to read it um i love lauren groff i know if you have read her other books that you probably love lauren groff too and i just picked this one up today so matrix lauren groff i don't want to know too much more don't tell me because i'm going to allow the book to surprise me page by page um another book that came out that i knew i needed to get my hands on and then daryl from instagram was like russell it's so good that's the collection of short stories after parties by anthony vesna so and i'm not sure i'm saying that right so i'm going to hold it up there all i know about this is a collection of short stories about the um cambodian american experience um it deals with sexuality it deals with friendship it deals with family deals with you know refugee um issues coming to america from a land that is torn by war i believe there is a inherited weight of the khmer rogue genocide and grapple with the complexities of race sexuality friendship and family all i know is that everyone i know who has read it has said it is an excellent collection of short stories unfortunately anthony passed before this book came out he was super duper young i don't believe he was over unless he was born in 1992. so um unfortunately you know this masterpiece is what he's put out into the world um but uh yeah i'm really excited about this one so that's after party stories by anthony vesna so out from ecco who i absolutely love you know i'm an echo fan y'all um you know how there are certain people that you feel are really part of the literary zeitgeist and have so much sort of power with what they put out but you don't see enough people talking about them that's how i feel about percival ever i feel like every book he puts out everybody loves it but i just don't know a lot of people talk about him why is that he was just shortlisted for the pulitzer for his last book telephone and this is his new book the trees out from grey wolf press so this is the story of two men from the mississippi bureau of investigation who they arrive in money mississippi to investigate some murders that have occurred but at those murder scenes there's like a slew of them there's an extra body that looks like emmett till and as they start to investigate that they find that there are actually murders across the country in this same vein and it becomes sort of this reckoning of this discussion of white supremacy and also police brutality and how all of that is sort of being combined together as these murders are going unsolved and these uh bodies are being found that look like um and remind people of emmett till so i believe that personal ever will do masterful work with all of that much better than i can do in even describing it um and if you haven't read him yet you really you you should i don't know there's nothing else to say there so that's the trees by percival ever out from grey wolf press okay now let's do a little horror october is around the corner um my husband and i are actually working on a project about books for october i'm hoping we'll be able to actually put it out there it's going to take a little bit of work but we're working on it but everyone needs a little horror novel and this is summer suns by lee mandelo i don't know much about them personally i don't know if this is their first book let me see i know that they've written a lot in magazines so i apologize and i believe they're from kentucky right oh uh pursuing a phd at the university of kentucky there you go um so summer suns is the story of andrew and eddie they are you know they did everything together they are best friends um they're almost like to the point where they're brothers but um eddie left andrew because he had to go to a grand jury program at vanderbilt as does you know life changes things but six months later he hears andrew hears that eddie has committed suicide and or yeah has died in an apparent suicide and he leaves andrew this this let's call it an inheritance but it's not one that you want he gets a roommate he doesn't know he gets um friends that he never asked for and then also it says a gruesome phantom that hungers for him sounds creepy sounds fantastic so that's summer suns by lee mandelo and this is out from tor.com okay two more books in this part of this uh new releases for your tbr one i've talked about a number of times it's a book by a big name that's coming out but i just want to make sure that you got your copy because it came out today um i went to the bookstore and the bookstore i went to did not have a copy of it and that's the magician by colm toyman um this is a fan a fictional account of the life of thomas mann while he was writing death in venice um and that is all i need to know colin toyman does these author he does these historical people fictional narratives he did um the master which was about harry g henry james which i absolutely adore adored and i always forget the uh full name of it the testament of mary which is a slim little book um about me uh that is so very very good and it's an amazing audio both narrated by meryl streep you should definitely check that out but this is his newest book and um i actually was really surprised that this didn't make the book or long list did it and i missed it i don't think it did um but that's calm toy bins the magician out on now today from uh scribner so i need to get my official copy of this book i'll have to just go to a different bookstore oh stop woe is me to have to go to two bookstores last but not least in this book pile of new releases is a book picked by my by coastal bibliophiles book club as our next read um i had heard of this book it was sort of here in my brain but i never really thought about it a lot and then they were like this is what we want to read i was like of course i go and i buy it and then i'm like why didn't i know about this book and this is mrs march by virginia fietto and this is out from liver light books um so george march who is mrs march's husband is a very famous writer and she is a very put together woman right and she lives on the upper east side and she just sort of lives her life in this like specific very uh organized very her way but one day she goes to the um where does she go a shopkeeper she goes to a shop and he recommends to her or sort of says to her that this awful character in her husband's newest book may be based on her and it just throws her for a loop and i this it says um that one casual remark robs mrs march of her belief that she knew everything about her husband and herself suddenly she is hurled on a harrowing journey that begins within the pages of a book while snooping in george's office mrs march finds a newspaper clipping about a missing woman did george have anything to do with her disappearance he's been going on a lot of hunting trips up north with his editor lately leaving missile march alone at night with her tormented thoughts and the cockroaches that have started to appear and strange breathing noises as she begins to decode her husband's secrets her deafening anxiety and fierce determination threaten everyone in her wake that sounds so good right how did i not already need this book in my life um and so that is mrs march by virginia theodo out from liverlight so this is part one y'all that is i believe it's eight total books that i hope every single one of them hopes i was gonna lift them but i dropped one on the floor and so you're not gonna get to see them i hope every single one of these books winds up on your tbr as always if you are a return subscriber i could not do this without you if you are new to my channel know that i love having you here subscribe hit that bell and you know stick around i'm going to be talking about more books more books
