the front porch farm YouTube channel we wanted to give you an overview of our new Holland V our 70 60 round baler we purchased this this spring we've got about 550 bales through it it was a replacement for our old 648 silage special from New Holland and I just wanted to give you an overview of some of the features on the new Baylor's and also some of the options we added and we'll also throw in some video at the end of failing with it first cutting with some pretty heavy wind rows this is a 70 60 which is a 4 foot wide five foot high round bale baler we get that size just works well for our farm and for shipping on semis being four foot wide you Holland is one of the only companies you can purchase in America I think kuhn being the other that has a pickup that's wider were significantly wider than the bale chamber this is an 84-inch pick up on this baler on a 48 inch bale chamber baler and we just found that the wider pick up for our windy area and also for just heavy wind rows is really nice it also I believe really helps in making a square bale because it's packing more hay in to the outside you can rake a little wider you're getting more density in the outside edges of your bail and we found that just really makes good square edged real solid bales on the pickup also the other thing we added is this roller wind guard this is new for 2013 on their Baylor's and really significantly improves crop feeding a major improvement for new holland that was one area where they're in the past they're Baylor's really we're lacking and we've seen a great improvement there the other thing we added to the pickup was these side flares Yohan's gauge wheels are pretty close to the edge of their pickup and so if you've got windblown crop or a long crop it can tend to get run over by those pickup gauge wheels and feed or at least contribute to plugging your feeding augers on the sides of the pickup here those guards really do help and using that I haven't ever plugged this pickup yet and 550 bales and we were in some pretty heavy first cutting Windrose come around the side here new holland does Goldwing doors really nice open access you can get to everything this baler is a net wrap only baler so there would be a twine storage box here that would have to swing out of the way on a twine or twine and that rot baler but being us net wrap only with the Bale slice it deletes the twine option so open access and just really nice for maintenance to get in here not have a door to be swinging anyway New Holland offers several features options we chose to do a hydraulic pickup just a convenience feature more than anything really nice to be able to go into a field drop your pickup and just start bailing or if you have tracks or rough spots that you want to pick up and float over makes it easy to do that from the tractor cab we added a chain Whaler after our other baler doing maintenance on chains for the last 12 years really nice to be able to just make sure your reservoir is full and things are working it'll oil the chain every time the tailgate is opened so oils the chains while they're warm and a lot more often than it would get done if you were doing it manually another shot of the pickup here roller Wingard you Hollins baler is a stuffer baler not a auger baler I think it's gentler on the hey it doesn't feed as positively as the as the augers however I really believe the stuff is easier on the hay it's also pretty foolproof and you're not going to have an issue if you do get a rock or something through it like some of the augers can their new stuffer is a double stuffer if you buy the silage special also I should mention on this 84 inch wide pickup you're going to get twin cam tracks one on each side which I think on a 84 inch pickup is pretty much a necessity so I would definitely add that if I didn't order a second special baler but definitely a vastly improved pickup newhall had a lot of issue with the augers plugging on their older Baylor's and they've pretty much eliminated that with the different wind guard and then the roller in front and also just adding adding these flares to the side really has helped keep material moving into the into the bale chamber instead of wrapping around or wrapping around the augers while it's still either caught onto the front of the wind guard or caught onto the tire so definitely seen an improvement with the roller the flares and just their design changes here alright we'll go ahead and lock the tent and out here on the back new holland is one of the only bail companies they are companies in the u.s. that you can buy that has a combination of rolls and belts being the other one again I believe I really like the the rolls and belts I believe the rollers really help to make a square bail because they're not going to deform as much as the belts will it also does have some disadvantages one of them being hay can tend to work out between the stripper roller which is this last roller here and your belt and you'll end up with a little bit in front and I'll show you that when we get around the front but their new stripper roller does do a lot better job of keeping the hay in the chamber than their previous designs there have been some issues with older New Holland Baylor's not forming the core and we have yet to see with only 550 bales through there if that becomes an issue with this one but we're talking you know five five thousand plus bales sometimes they don't form a core as well and a lot of people believe it's a combination of the rollers and the belts that leads to that but we'll see how this new system holds up as far as durability and starting for the silage special option that I was talking about earlier adds endless belts to the baler there are three year guarantee on on the belts no splices to maintain then if you do need to replace a belt you'll either have to take the baler side off and pick it apart for rollers off or just put a splice belt in so if you're keeping your baler for 20 years then it's not really a huge deal for you but if you are trading your baler and it's something you won't have to maintain and something to think about the other thing about New Holland Baylor's their Bale Chambers is quite a bit higher than anybody else's which adds you know obviously increased increased height to the baler but I really believe that adds in ejecting the Bale if you've seen our other hay videos our ground it's got some pretty good rolling hills and these Baylor's will eject the hills on our on our ground going up or down hills on 90 95 percent of it their bale ramp is standard it is not a push bar setup these belts do not be clutch when you dump so they're going to continue to turn and they along with the floor will tend to eject the Bale and your push bar or your bale ramp is going to catch the Bale from coming back and you can get the tailgate post New Holland doesn't have a push bar set up like John Deere Massey Ferguson or Vermeer but I really like the fact that this is a non assisted push so that you can place your bail where you want it and you're not shoving your bail off the edge of the field if it's a steep hill you can really control where you set your bail with the push bar or with the ramp setup okay the other thing we added to this day or another option was this external expeller roll it's called these Baylor's since they're not staggered belts and also since they are belts and rollers can tend to get a built up in here between especially fine grasses like second cutting orchard grass or something like that and this expeller roll we added as an option to help clean out between the belts it does help is not going to eliminate the problem depending on your hay your moisture conditions that sort of thing you are still going to have to clean out between the belt section here not a huge deal probably you know every 500 every 500 to 300 bales so if you're you know valence small fields is just something you do at the end of your field it's not a big deal but definitely something to be aware of with the new Hollande's they do tend to build up a between the belts not having a staggered belts okay something else about the new holland Baylor's it's a little different and again it's close to the Kuhn Baylor's is net wrap is going to be in the front this is extra storage for another roll but and that wrap is going to be in the front on this baler and we'll show you that when we get around the front another option we added to this baler is the wider tires again our ground is fairly hilly and these tires provide quite a bit more stability on the side Hills also really right smooth in the field I've noticed a huge difference between our whole baler this one you also get a heavier duty hub package with this tire kit and that's a headed okay welcome this side up this is a bale command+ baler this is the computer that controls it our old baler was a bail command it was kind of a new thing to have a computer-controlled baler 1213 years ago we were a little hesitant never did end up having any problems with it so I can recommend that system as far as being pretty bulletproof I'm definitely nice to be able to make most of your adjustments to your baler from your tractor cab we'll go around front here and I'll show you the net wrap again as I mentioned the net wrap on the new holland is a front load again kind of unique in the round baler world I like it because you can see it from the seat of the cab make sure it's working you also have the monitor which is going to tell you but you're not relying just on that if there is a simplicity to the system I really I really think the fact that you can see it work is is one of the things they've definitely overpass balers are 648 was a kind of a retrofit to that older style baler that wrap was a new thing in 2000-2001 and they had retrofit it into the twine box there was a lot of issues with dust and leaves building up in the twine box and and definitely a better system here being that there is no twine box to catch any dust the front of those baler is very open everything drops back down in your window of your pickup the break is a lot heavier duty their pivot that they put on this compared to again the older generation Baylor's is a lot heavier never had a problem with the old one but it always seemed really really lightweight all right on the front here again will show you one thing I wanted to mention is this is a really wide very heavy baler it weighs about fifty six hundred pounds fifty seven hundred pounds as it sits here and that's substantially heavier than some of the little bit narrower Baylor's specifically john deere that i can think of you're going to want mirrors it especially if you're towing this thing down the road on your tractor because you cannot see behind you without them part of that is due to there you know the wider pickup and just the wider body the net wrapping in front is just it's a very wide and baler you can see it's 84 inches same as the pickup basically new holland added a removable jack from their old generation that I had the 648 a lot better because I don't tongue mounted Jack was really really in the way we also have a new step set up here this is the area where a lot of round balers they're going to end at the front of the belts here it's going to be your hitch and nothing else because they don't have a net wrap here new Holland's got about three feet of they are in front of the front of the belts because of the net reps set up being there so again that contributes to a bigger baler it's going to be a longer baler than a lot of the other ones John you're in Vermeer and you can tend to get hay up here up through your stripper roller but they've done a lot better job of cleaning up the area in front of the rollers between the rollers and the net wrap Bank was about four and a half inches now where most of that hay drops out the old Baylor's would tend to build up a actually got up to where you can probably see the belts unless you stopped and cleaned it this does a lot better job of eliminating that but it totally hasn't eliminated it completely that's for sure okay this is the Bale command+ monitor not a lot of change from the Bale command the previous generation in the monitor itself is quite a substantial change in the sensors in the baler for more reliability but not a lot of change in the Bale command plus monitor really fairly a simple monitor these days this is going to be your Bale shaped bar graphs for a feed bale size and this will let me wrap a bale manually change my Bale size number of wraps I can turn the slice on and off extend it manually extend and retract the net wrap manually check my number of bales and this is clear for if there's any information you have on there that you want to race one thing they did change is the wiring harness for this baler the old one would plug into my tractor cab and made it really easy to switch from tractor to tractor this one wires directly to a 12-volt system so it's a lot harder to change the wiring harness system so you're going to want to have more than one harness most likely if you're changing from tractor detractor also got to make sure you shut that monitor off when you're done because it's going directly to the battery instead of on a keyed switch like the old plug in would do and it will run your tractor battery down if you leave it plugged in for a long period of time because the manual or the monitor will not shut off when you shut the tractor key off so that is one change I'm not real happy with but other than that the monitor for us we've used some variation of this over the last 12 years and it's been a really bulletproof system alright well that wraps up our review overlook of the new holland BR 76 t round baler I hope you found it informative when I was looking at Baylor's I didn't find a lot of information on the new Holland's online so I decided to do a video to kind of help you guys out it you're looking at them show you some of the pluses some of the minuses and some of the options we added to benefit us really been happy with the baler overall our last one was was a really good baler low maintenance and just did a great job I really think the combination of rolls and belts produces a better square bale they're definitely not the fastest baler out there the double stuffer / rotary definitely is one of the reasons but I really think they're a little gentler on the hay they clean the field well and definitely make a really nice fail so I hope you found this helpful if you've got any other questions feel free to comment and we'll do our best to answer them thanks for watching you
