[Music] [Music] hey everyone it's jenna welcome and welcome back to my channel in today's video i'm going to take you all along on our cape cod vacation i'm so excited to explore this place that i've heard so many good things about so today was our travel day we flew in but we did take a very early flight so we were able to pack in some other things today and i will insert all of that right here all right so we flew into providence rhode island and when coming to the cape the two closest major airports are providence and also boston so they're about the same distance driving wise but we chose providence because the flights were cheaper and you can actually just walk to the rental car facility via a little skywalk at the airport you don't need to take a shuttle or anything so that was really quick and convenient and then after we got our rental car we just made the hour and a half drive to the cape our first stop was anejo which is a gorgeous mexican bistro with two locations on the cape and we got there right when they opened and got seated on the outdoor patio under this gorgeous weeping beech tree which was planted in 1776 so it was amazing how this tree perfectly shaded the entire patio and just made for such a unique relaxing outdoor dining experience it was so calming to listen to the rustle of the leaves overhead and see all of the twinkle lights strung throughout the branches the drinks here were phenomenal i got a spicy margarita and mike got the house margarita they both paired perfectly with our meal and we both got the trace tacos which consisted of carne asada chicken tinga and carnitas if you are on the cape and like mexican food this place is a must try afterwards we walked around the town of hyenas for a little bit and then drove over to see the nabska lighthouse and it was an absolutely gorgeous drive to get there you see so many quaint little homes and even get to drive right along the ocean so the nobsco lighthouse originated in the year 1828 and this is one of the most picturesque lighthouses on the cape in my opinion there isn't much parking here so try to get here early or maybe on a weekday if you can not only can you marvel at the lighthouse but there's also a little trail that goes down to the water so you can enjoy views of the ocean and you also get to see martha's vineyard off in the distance it was such a gorgeous day with a gentle breeze blowing and it was so charming just to see all of the wildflowers and just to take in the scenery so next we headed on over to downtown falmouth which was only a 10 minute drive away from the lighthouse and here there are dozens of shops and restaurants owned by locals and this area has been protected as a historic district and we found that this was one of the best places to walk around and shop to find souvenirs locally crafted products and of course more food we had to check out the famous local spot called mason velat this is a french bakery that will transport you straight to paris there's usually a line but it moves pretty quickly and is a great spot for a quick breakfast or a grab-and-go lunch option overall falmouth main street is such a great spot to just walk around enjoy the curb appeal the flowers everywhere the gentle coastal breeze and just peruse the shops next we headed on over to check in to our hotel which was the parker beach lodge all right so real quick this is our hotel room this trip was booked very last minute so the only thing they had available was a double queen but seems comfy enough we can cozy up in one of those oh there's mike outside he was bringing things in from the car but that's the pool come on in we have a tv just a really little tiny fridge just somewhere to put like a drink or two got like a sink an ice bucket a microwave this ac is really cold so that's good you can see the cute little neighborhood outside and then this is the bathroom just nice and updated sink okay and yeah that's it it was again very affordable and something that was available last minute and we're honestly really happy with it for the price and the neighborhood is super cute and the main reason we booked it was because it was just a couple steps away from the beach and just in a really cute little quaint area so for dinner we just figured we'd make the most of our hotel location and save some money by ordering pizzas and enjoying them on the beach for sunset the public beach nearby was not even a five-minute walk away and was just perfect for eating dinner because they had a bunch of benches all lining the beach so we could just sit and relax enjoy our pizzas and take in the sights and sounds of the ocean [Music] all right so it's the next morning and we are on our way to catch the 610 ferry it's 5 10 right now and we are very tired but i always say while on vacation you never remember being tired you just remember all the fun stuff that you did so that is the energy we are channeling right now hopefully we can get some coffee on the way if we have time and we will see you all in mid skit so the fairy port was only about 15 minutes from our hotel and we were able to grab some food and coffee at duncan since that was the only thing open that early and an added bonus to the early fairy time was that we got to see a beautiful sunrise and beat most of the tourist crowd since we were making this trip during peak tourist season in july i did make reservations for the ferry a day or two ahead of time since that's what was recommended on the website but there were plenty of seats still available the day that we went and the ferry ride kind of feels like an attraction within itself we took the highline ferry and it takes about an hour to get over to the island of nantucket it was just so nice to get out on the water and the ride out of lewis bay in the hyenas harbor was just so scenic with all of the sailboats dotting the coastline and you're able to see some of the gorgeous quintessential cape cod homes overlooking the water it was just really nice and relaxing to take this ride over to the island once we got to nantucket we had about an hour to kill before the first bus that we needed to catch so we just walked around and enjoyed the historic cobblestone streets the hydrangeas and the town was really just waking up so we got a great look of it without the crowds and this would be a great time to snap some photos and just enjoy some morning golden hour views at 8 15 we caught the wave bus and took it over to the town of skonset and this is a great option if you don't have a car on the island the bus was six dollars per person round trip and it's helpful to have exact change in cash if riding the bus it was so fun to see other parts of the island along the way and i was really surprised by how much the landscape changed the closer we got to the town of sconces so once we arrived our plan was to do the sconcet bluff walk and i was immediately taken by the aesthetic of this quaint little town there were hydrangeas and flowers in every single direction and the homes and beach cottages were absolutely stunning with the classic shaker siding and meticulously landscaped yards just being amongst these beautiful cottages was an absolute dream and you can find the beginning of the walk at the end of front street the sconce at bluff walk is basically a super scenic public footpath through backyards of multi-million dollar homes and it does feel a little weird to be traipsing through people's backyards but it's totally allowed and this footpath has constant breathtaking views of both the ocean and shrub land habitat and the whole thing is just brimming with wildflowers blowing in the breeze and it was just so special to enjoy this dreamy setting [Music] [Music] do [Music] so i would say this is probably my favorite part of the whole trip mike is eating goldfish i mean everywhere you look it just looks like a fairy tale storybook it's so gorgeous you have the beach on one side all of these insane houses with hydrangeas on the other side i mean and it's such a beautiful day you smell all of the really pretty flowers it just feels like a dream so we're gonna keep going and try to make it to the san katy lighthouse which is at the end of this whole thing um it's about a 30 minute walk-ish if you're not taking a million pictures like i am but definitely my favorite thing so far so the bluff trail kind of abruptly ends due to erosion but you can take the gravel road the rest of the way if you want to make it to the sand katy lighthouse and i highly recommend doing it if you have the time and the energy it was a bit of a walk but the lighthouse was truly breathtaking and we really enjoyed learning about the interesting geology and history of the lighthouse it was built in 1850 and is located on the easternmost point of the island and it's actually still an active lighthouse as of today but unfortunately because of erosion the lighthouse had to be moved in 2007 since the bluff on which it stands has been disappearing at a rate of about three feet per year so the lighthouse which weighed 405 tons was relocated further inland to where it currently stands at 267 feet away from the bluffs edge where before it was just a mere 68 feet away from the edge which we thought was pretty interesting so then we hiked back into the town near the bus stop and just grab lunch at claudette sandwiches they're pretty basic sandwiches but had a really good house spread on them and we got to enjoy them by sitting out on the patio which was really nice and there's just something about eating a sandwich at the beach that feels right you know so after that we just took the bus back to the downtown area of nantucket where the ferry dropped us off and here we just spent the rest of the day shopping and enjoying the picturesque streets and shops this part of the town had definitely come to life since we came back and now lots of people were filling the streets which made for some fun people watching and there were lots of souvenir shops where you could pick up locally crafted goods one of my favorite things was the cranberry soap and i also enjoyed looking at all of the nantucket sweaters and hats one of my favorite stores that we came across was called nomad and it was just filled with some of the most beautiful home decor pieces including those antique elm benches that i love so much the store had an overall casual and coastal vibe filled with lots of different textiles and textures it was just such a delight to walk through and get inspired by most shops on the island were very upscale so they were out of my personal budget but still such a treat to walk through and look around another spot that i really loved was called flowers on chestnut and i was actually reading the book the hotel nantucket while i was there and the author mentions this store in her book so i just had to come through and check it out for myself so many beautiful flowers as well as a gorgeous gift shop upstairs after we shopped around a little bit we headed on over to the juice bar for some ice cream there's normally a line outside the building but we got lucky and hit it at the right time with hardly any line and even though they have juices and smoothies here they're probably best known for their ice cream and here they make their own fresh waffle cones and bowls micah got the chocolate oreo with peanut butter and i got the blackberry which was delicious we just took them over to enjoy at the harbor which was only a few steps away from the juice bar and they had this historic flood event marker which was really interesting to see and think about but it was just a great spot to sit and admire all of the gorgeous homes and just cool down with some ice cream before heading back on the ferry we took a stroll down old north wharf which used to be where a lot of fishing industry buildings were but because of a fire back in the 1800s a lot of the buildings have now been converted into cottages and rentals the hydrangeas in this spot are unreal and definitely a must see if you are visiting during the summer months so we took the 545 ferry back to cape cod and decided to try brax landing for dinner this spot was cozy casual and very capeish the outdoor patio overlooked the sacuatucket harbor and we timed it perfect and got seated right at sunset i will say the food was decent but you definitely would come here more so for the view and i believe they are best known for their lobster roll if you enjoy seafood mike and i don't so we got burgers and drinks it was just really nice to sit relax and watch the sunset with a gorgeous scenic view alright so it's the next day we had a really busy day yesterday we ended up walking over 11 miles according to mike's watch so today we're gonna take it a little bit easier we're going to go get a nice breakfast and then probably head over to a beach we do have a seal tour at 1 30. then we're going to a winery and then we're going to provincetown so we have today's a little slower yeah we're just trying to see it all okay so that's what we got going on we're gonna go head over to breakfast a really cute little irish spot and yeah we will see you guys there so for breakfast we went to the celtic kitchen which was probably one of our favorite restaurants on this entire trip we sat in their little sunroom area and this is one of those spots where two eggs really means four and they don't skimp on portions mike got the nutty irish french toast and i got the creme brulee french toast and everything here was so yummy and delicious after breakfast we made our way over to nasit beach which is one of the more popular beaches here on the cape and parking does fill up quickly so be sure to go early cape cod is a major great white territory and here they have lots of signs on the beach warning you of the great whites and the shark flag is almost always flying during the summers which just reminds swimmers that there are sharks in the water we also did see several seals swimming close to shore which usually means one thing if the seals are nearby then the sharks aren't usually too far behind we were still able to dip our toes in the water and i just laid out and enjoyed reading my book for a little bit it was just really nice to be able to have some beach time and unwind by the ocean [Music] next it was time to head over to our seal tour and we went with monomoy excursions and here in the cape whale watching is very popular but they can be pricey tours and take up over four hours of the day and since we had both been wheel watching before we opted for the seal tour which was a bit cheaper and was only an hour long it was just really nice to get out on the water and the tour takes you over to stage harbor which was really scenic with its crystal clear blue water it was just fun to cruise past all of the sailboats and enjoy views of the stage harbor lighthouse and it wasn't long until we spotted some seals we found a group of both harbor and gray seals which are the two main types of seals that call cape cod home and it was just fun to observe them in their natural habitat and watch them swim all around the boat next we made our way up to churro vineyards which is a family business owned and operated by the roberts family since 2007. the grounds were just so picturesque with lots of places to sit and enjoy the beautiful weather and it's definitely recommended to make a reservation as it does get pretty busy here and there are usually food trucks that you can order food from while you sample their wine which was really nice guests are welcome to walk around the vineyards and they have little picnic benches to sit and enjoy the views i loved walking through and looking at all of the great vines definitely a fun item to check off the bucket list if you find yourself in your churro and obviously one of my favorite parts about the vineyards was just tasting the wine you can get a flight of five wines for 15 and it comes with a souvenir churro vineyards wine glass which i thought was a really good deal and they also have a gift shop inside where you can purchase wine and other memorabilia which was just fun to peruse through especially since the house was so old and historic and was built back in the 1800s so after enjoying the vineyards for a bit we decided to head on over to provincetown and provincetown is the city on the very northern tip of cape cod locals here call it p-town and this spot is known for its lgbtq presence and here they celebrate individuality and freedom of expression it was so fun just to walk amongst the vibrant streets and p-town is also known for its restaurants vibrant nightlife art galleries and shops for dinner we just grabbed some pizza by the slice and walked around with it because it gave us the opportunity to walk through some of the neighboring residential areas it was just fun to admire the architecture the landscaping and all of the boutique hotels and we also saw the ballast stone wall which was made from stone weights that were used to stabilize empty vessels in the late 1800s and they were later made into walls and they say visitors enjoy running their hands along the wall for good luck we also decided to try the famous fried dough and i'm not gonna lie it just tasted like a donut without frosting but it was super warm and fresh and just a nice little treat to enjoy by the water another really interesting fact about provincetown was that it was actually the first landing spot of the mayflower back in 1620 and they actually have a monument dedicated to this which towers over the city we didn't have time to go up it but we did check out the first official landing location where they have a stone plaque marking the specific spot which was just really crazy to stand there and think about and right next to the plaque is where you can find the provincetown causeway hike and here you can actually walk all along the jetty out to a lighthouse on the other end and unfortunately it's dangerous to do this hike at high tide so we didn't want to take the risk since high tide was approaching but it was just really fun to walk along some of the rocks and enjoy the beautiful views of the marshland during golden hour so next we headed over to a spot that was going to be absolutely perfect for sunset from the causeway we headed on over to the dune shacks trail which was only about an eight minute drive and this trail is a 2.4 mile loop that's relatively challenging due to the fact that you're hiking up giant dunes in sand but it is totally worth it because i've honestly never seen anything quite like the landscape here and just being amongst all of the hilly dunes was so unique and beautiful because we were a bit limited on time and energy we didn't end up doing the entire hike but we just made it to the top of the first major dune hill and the way the sun was lighting up the tops of the dunes all gold it just made us want to stop and enjoy the rest of the sunset from this spot and from here you're actually able to get a 360 degree view of both oceans on either side of the cape off in the distance which was really neat and you know this was just such a scenic and relaxing spot to enjoy watching the sun go down [Music] [Music] all right so it's the next day today is our last day in the cape sad we are so sad to leave but i'm really excited because we are going to do the shining sea bikeway which is one of the things that i was the most excited to do while we were here probably you too right yeah we're really excited it's supposed to be just a really scenic bike path through cranberry bogs and along the water so it should be really scenic and pretty and should be fun day and we will see you guys there okay so we had such a good meal at the celtic kitchen the previous day that we decided to go back and this time we sat on the other side of the restaurant which was a lot different this side kind of felt like its own little movie set and there was irish music playing you can hear and see the cooks working in the kitchen it smelled so good and our waitress ebby was irish and was just so happy and lovely she was joking with everyone and it was just a very authentic fun and friendly atmosphere i got the famous corned beef hash and this was probably my favorite of the two meals even though it's definitely a hard choice because they were both so good so once we were properly fueled for our bike ride we set out to run our bikes at arts bike shop which is family owned and operated and the location of arts is perfect if you're wanting to ride the shining sea bikeway because you start pretty much right at the beginning of the trail so you don't have to backtrack or miss anything the shining sea bikeway is a 10.7 mile bike path that hugs the coast and goes through the town of falmouth and then ends in the town of woods hole and if you plan on biking the entire thing like we did i would recommend renting bikes early just because it is over a 20 mile bike ride to go there and back and there's just so much to see so you definitely want to be able to get off and take your time and see all of the sights along the way one of the first things that we saw was the born farm and cranberry bogs the cranberries are harvested in the fall so that would be a great time to come and see this part of the trail all we really saw were just some sprinklers watering fields but it was still really cool to see a cranberry bog in person a couple miles after the box we came across some really pretty saltwater marshes where mike got a kick out of all of the ducks sticking their butts in the air and this was just a really pretty scenic spot to get off of our bikes for a minute and take in the scenery after about eight miles or so the bike path opens up to the atlantic ocean and this was probably my favorite part of the trail because here you can stop for a swim since the beach here is public and you can also catch glimpses of martha's vineyard off in the distance [Music] [Music] [Music] and once we reached the end of the trail we were in the town of woods hole and we just locked up our bikes right near where the ferry for martha's vineyard leaves and walked around this cute little town this waterfront location is so quaint and it's actually home to one of the leaders in non-profit ocean research and exploration and at this point we were pretty hungry so we stopped off at a restaurant called woods hole wharf and we were lucky enough to get seated at one of the tables right along the water overlooking the harbor and here they had some really good wood-fired pizza and we got half pepperoni and half hawaiian and this was just a great spot to rest and enjoy a nice lunch after we ate we got back on the trail and biked back to our car just to be able to get to the airport in time for our evening flight all right everyone that about wraps up this video we are on our way back to the airport sadly i hope that you enjoyed coming along with us on
