NEW Audi RS6 Avant 2020 - FIRST LOOK!

[Music] hello welcome to as the title of this video would suggest a very special video indeed now I felt the requirement to open this with the apocalyptic weather that is happening outside because you'll probably pick up on the rain noise which is hitting the roof up ahead I know it's a running joke on this channel that it always rains on my videos but even when I'm inside it still it seems to affect things never mind that today is a massive day I think we'll all agree that since the launch and introduction of the Audi RS 2 which is conveniently over my shoulder right there but Aldi has developed this cult status around the super estate and then do we move on from the to or from the 5 to the 6 to the c7 now the reason I'm drawing attention to this car is that I was actually a long term oh no it's really fortunate to get my hands on a Merlin purple Aldi rs6 performance I owned that car for 3 years did around about 30,000 miles in it and sadly parted with it about 12 months ago now it's a car that I am yet to have found anything else to fill that void until today [Music] [Music] and so here it is this is a moment that myself and no doubt howdy fans around the world have been waiting for we've seen it testing we've seen it testing on the Nordschleife ER and now I'm stood in front of it coincidentally the day before it launches so I'm gonna have to turn this editor around pretty sharpish and guess what my audience in America every time I posted my previous rs6 there was lots of comments saying awesome car was so gutted that it's not available in North America well you know the woods which are gonna come out of my mouth next the new rs6 will be available in North America massively cool news I can't wait to see the specs which hit the road over there anyway with that out of the way in America very excited let's check out the car good news from the off they have retained the twin turbocharged v8 engine with let's just jump right into it 600 horsepower and 800 Newton meters of torque that is a hundred Newton meters more than the base level c7 rs6 here now if you spent any time while watching my content you'll know that that car is no slouch at all but it's the torque which gives you the feeling of propulsion when you're pressing the accelerator so even though it's not up in horse power research it is up in torque which Aamir head least is the important stuff so naught to 60 time or naught to 60 to time as it were of just 3.6 seconds so I guess we will be achieving naught to 60 times of around about three and a half seconds of a car which don't forget has that famous formula of having five seats and room in the back dog in if you want to and that for me is what makes this formula in this car so special still to this day I'm yet to find a car which ticks as many boxes as this car particularly if you like performance and practicality and let's face it especially in the incidence of this new car good looks or in one package so while you think the naught to 60 time is crazy the naught to 124 time which doesn't seem a relevant figure in the UK but of course in Germany these guys are lucky to have auto bonds you can go from 0 to 124 miles an hour in just 12 seconds once again this isn't a state car for me one of my favorite aspects attributes of the c7 which we can we merely have here to compare was of course the aesthetics and the way it looked I mean at its time when it launched and up until the launch of this car there were few cars with a front end like that that suggested get out of my way and now we have this car just look at it the sculpture is absolutely out standing so before we go any further I want to draw attention really to the wheels now amazingly they have have fitted these with optional 22 inch wheels not only is that fantastic from an aesthetic point of view obviously larger wheels you can also have larger tires so greater grip and traction but it's also in part to accommodate these brakes now of these I'm not sure if the cameras doing it justice the size of the brake calipers on these carbon ceramic brakes are colossal and that's because these are ten pot brakes ten ten pot I remember when I was growing up in the IRA's of hot-hatches and if you had a four six pots on your car it was a big deal this is rocking ten part brake calipers which is absolutely incredible the byproduct of that of course is that you have to have much larger wheels and so this is now sat on the optional 22 inch wheels as far as a contribution to styling and stance goes just look at it it's absolutely stunning the ride height as well now I'll go in to this in a little bit more detail when we go inside the car there will be two options of suspension one which is air ride which will allow you a bit more flexibility when it comes to adjusting the ride height of the car but I shall go in to that shortly but as it stands even with this stance it just looks phenomenal so with the exception of the front doors the roof and I think the tailgate every other component on this car is exclusive to the RS range every body panel you're seeing right now except from this just that section of tailgate right there is exclusive to RS six and let's just run through those components to what makes this vastly different from the a6 advanced which this is based on I want to start with the width of it that's the thing that really impacts you the most at first once again I'm not sure the cameras doing the chunk and stance of this any justice but take it from me this thing is so wide in fact from the back I likened it to almost being a sort of DTM support car and it's in its styling because it's it's so wide the contribution to that almost following on from those larger wheels is the fact that they've increased the width of the flared arches by 40 millimeters each side so if I get this angle here I mean look at the shelf on there of this fantastic shelf over the rear haunch and then instead of it dropping off almost like a vertical wall it just cascades out and just keeps going and going and going look at that honestly from the back if I just stand here like this it's so white when I start to come out look there's the arch the width of the guard just keeps on rolling it is phenomenal now while we round the back it has still maintained the iconic oval exhaust tips one thing you will notice is that the more conventional diffuser which would typically sit just there we can see the silver of the exhaust components well you'll notice that there is no more conventional diffuser and I think that's actually the important word here is conventional how they stood back and looked at the back of other cars in this sector and everyone seemed to be rocking and wearing the sort of generic diffuser which would sit down here so in order to create this look they have removed that and given it entirely its own feel now what's pretty cool about this setup is that you will have the option to spec a retractable towing hook and that's only been possible by removing this styling kit here now as a result they've compensated for that by having this shrouding here now on this particular car its styled in silver but I've been informed by the Gazza Aldi that you are able to spec this in a carbon fiber trim and they've also gone so far as to introduce a black pack so not only you can you have the iconic Aldi logo in black you can even have the rs6 logo itself in black as well so these guys have really thought about styling when it comes to this car one other massively important thing about this car is that it is one of the first and new RS products to sort of wear the new RS design language so get used to aggressive looking fronts like this now one of my favorite features particularly in this matte or satin paint finish look at the sculpture on the bonnet so these two lines here the one running there the one running there have been referred to as the power dome now not only is that an awesome name but it's also just a tip of the hat to let you know that under there is sitting it's the most powerful version of an a6 platform so this will be the the only Asics variant which will be able to run the twin-turbocharged v8 600 horsepower 800 Newton meters of torque and naught to 60 in three and a half seconds it's gonna be ridiculous okay so while we're around the front of the car this also adopts the new RS matrix LED laser headlights so these have a darker trim than the standard finish on the non RS products but haven't driven with matrix LED headlights I can tell you it's like having stadium lighting on your car illuminating the road ahead these things are so bright thankfully these actually automatically adapt and dim to oncoming traffic I don't know what kind of witchcraft they've employed in this but it's still able to fully illuminate your lane while dipping the lane next to you so you don't blind oncoming traffic it's a really weird sensation at first but it just seems to work it's really clever tech and speaking of lights this has move around to the back quickly they have also designed and developed a unique unlock and locking lighting sequence so when I press the unlock button like this you get a really cool pattern now still maintained the Quattro all-wheel drive but I'll go into the nuances and variables of that shortly but to start with just soak it in just let me know at this stage what you think in the comments below what this car looks like to you it's been in it's been in the development stages for years as I mentioned at the start we've seen it testing as an interpretation of how this car has evolved from c7 to what I guess is technically now you could refer to as c8 let me know in the comments below what you think this feels like and looks like I will put it out there right now the camera is not doing the width and squat of this justice I'm looking at it through my preview screen and just to my eyes it just looks amazing look at the size of those wheels it's the craziest thing what is new are these RS specific sills now on this car it's optioned with the chrome pack so this insert here is silver but as with the rear you're also able to spec that in a carbon finish they've also launched which I haven't seen yet but no doubt after a few days of this being unveiled the online configurator will go live apparently they've launched a 5 matte paints this is one they also do a silver which is basically conveniently similar to the r8 GT 3 here and you can have these finishes in matte on this card i'm matt has always been a bit hard to look after unless you have a matte PPF on that but i just think it's worth it because look at the finish but the sculpture really really shows it up in contrast we have here a more conventional gloss paint where these these stunning lines sort of get lost in comparison to this paint okay look at what an amazing thing [Music] okay so here we are inside I've just had a sit in the c-7 car I brought all the memories back of my own car but when you jump into this it feels like you're stepping into a prototype car they have moved the interior game on to such a degree massively new experience if you're familiar with the previous jet which is cool you're gonna step in this and the whole thing external internal it's gonna feel like something totally new now then I did say let's talk about gearbox now with Audi being part of the VAT group I did think that they might put a twin clutch gearbox in this car now it's not all doom and gloom I'm just a massive gearbox knob and I either love a manual or a twin clutch however howdy have reassured me they said look we've got a more conventional 8-speed Auto it's a Tiptronic however it's an entirely new gearbox first of all to deal with the extra torque and power that while it still is an 8-speed auto I am assured that the shift speed and the tactility of the shifts has been revised but more importantly it has been redesigned and developed to deal with just a lot more power I'll have to reserve judgment until I actually drive it now it wasn't that the c7 was bad it just wasn't as lightning-fast on the down shifts up shifts were great on the down shifts as a twin clutch box but let's see how it is doesn't matter really because this isn't a track car but it would have been cool to see what this would have been like with a twin clutch anyway opinions aside I haven't driven it and they're like look drive it before you comment we think we've done an amazing job redeveloping this gearbox so that's C so Quattro all-wheel drive as I mentioned on the outside of the car that has obviously been retained that is one of the usps the unique selling point of the rs6 after all is that it is all-wheel drive now it's a 60/40 split by convention 62 the rear forty at the front however it does have variable torque deployment as it were in that it's able to allocate up to 85% of power to the rear and 70 up front 85 of the rear sounds interesting you know what that means now there are five driving modes controllable on the dynamic drive cell Lexx which comforts efficiency sport dynamic and individual the rest of them speak for themselves individual allows you to manipulate all of the variables which make up those other settings to a pre configurated setting which you can save to your profile speaking of profile there are now 2 entirely new modes called Rs 1 and Rs 2 what is a nice feature is that opposed to having a generic a6 on there there is a specific RS 6 when you depress the drive select switch so I bring this back up again so enrolls an RS 6 and when you roll down look just to the right and left of the wheels the terrain on the animation changes depending on what kind of road surface it wants to represent what I particularly likes when you go to dynamic it shows up curves like on a race circuit little details very cool now go back to the drive select switch again here's the Rs 1 and RS 2 modes and this is where you can customize those modes so you can allocate all sorts of different tweaks there's 4 settings per attribute and look at this everything from gearbox to throttle response even the steering waiter and feel it's all in there it's very very cool stuff and you can assign to different profiles to RS 1 and our s2 and then without having to go into that setting every time you set it to that setting and then you just flick between them once for one twice for two you can see it right there just the touch of a button cycles through the different settings it's pretty nice feature and so here is the new RS monitor tapping a button right here and it brings up all of the components of the car this menu in particular now you'll notice it is currently all in German I am in a pre-production prototype so naturally all of the writings in German but these are all of the instruments and all of the drive components which the new RS monitor will show you this one in particular I like brake temperature you've got oil temperature engine temperature even the diff temperature is pretty cool back here you see earlier we have tire temperature right here always handy and what do we have on here G readings yeah very cool stuff so it's all there for you and this here is a key effectively telling you how optimized each component is within their own temperature range obviously down here we have cooler warmer getting hot and probably better cooling down a notch apparently during testing of the brakes on the Nurburgring they only managed to get them too hot in the yellow band so that pretty trick stuff and again you know anyone who spent some time in a LD a six or a modern audio find this infotainment system very familiar the two main screens here infotainment up here climate control down here and then in front of us this is where you will see your RS mode so if you're pressing the RS mode button here so that's a new bun pressing that and this comes into RS mode and now this when you're tanking it and you're driving in manual with by the way these new and these are solid aluminium or shift paddles mounted on the wheel here when you're using it in manual there is a feature which is filtered down I believe from the Audi r8 which will effectively flash this screen red to indicate to you that you are in the optimum rev range at which to change gear cool function when you're driving it in manual but I think importantly for me it's just a nice feature that immerses you further that this is an Audi Sport product as an RS product and they've got components from our DS racing DNA that has filtered down from their flagship supercar I made its way into this car very trick stuff now this might seem like a small detail but it's actually really cool in the c7 rs6 you weren't able to have the back seats from effectively the rs7 which had a more I guess beautiful sculpture about them they were more of a bench seat you couldn't have the integrated headrests like you can see there so this new rs6 you can now have the back bench from the rs7 the sculpture and the inlays and just the way that the seats are fitted within the car just feel more part of the car rather than just a sort of flat folding bench you also might remember that this particular cognacs coloured leather was only an exclusive option from the Audi range meaning it wasn't available just on the average tick box of the standard optional extras it is now which is really cool news is its apps and gorgeous so they have it the very first look at the all-new Audi rs6 I'm so excited to finally be in here I've been speculating in my own mind not talking about it too much online as to what I think this car will be and we just look at it it's so menacing I can't wait to go on the configurator and check out the specs as I mentioned earlier there's other matte or satin paint jobs available they've also launched 30 other paints which can be specs on this car and then if you want to go really crazy you can go out out the exclusive and basically spec whatever you want so as always leave your questions and comments below about this incredible machine I can't The chrome lip on the rear bumper is a bit polarizing, but I'm guessing (and hoping) you can get that fitted in the exterior color/gloss black. Really curious to see how much these will cost in the US.

Love that start up light dance. So the E63s wagon is really the only competition for this right? I can't even think of what other super-wagons are around other than the CTS-V.

Also really hope that silver lip on the rear bumper can be optioned out, it really ruins the look IMO.

Audi's done a pretty good job differentiating this one from the regular models this time around, I think. Very excited to finally see some in real life now that's it coming to North America!
