Negotiating 101 with TPT - IWJG Miami 07.2021

[Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] we're here this morning at iwj miami it's a watch show um so starting on this side of the booth we're gonna have all of our heavy hitters we have our gold royal oaks our stainless royal oaks and our richard meal on the other side over here we're going to be having our rolex some of our offshores a few miscellaneous pieces including panerai omega bulgari uh and then a few bust down pieces and roger dewey over here so this show is going to be a wholesale only show not open to the public it's dealers we have a few friendly faces over here as well as meeting some new people we look forward to doing a lot of business we'll let you know how it goes as the day goes on looking at our case we're going to make a few predictions i'm going to make a few prediction predictions as to what's going to sell today so a few things that i know for sure are going to sell this 100 gone this is going to be the 41 millimeter old style 2 6 320 st chronograph this one is watch and papers which to be honest with you most dealers they sell either watch and papers watch only typically dealers hold onto the box and save it for their retail clients another watch that i believe will probably sell today this is going to be my wild card so we brought this bachron overseas perpetual ultra thin in rose gold it's brand new the retail price on this is going to be 97 000 really tough and difficult piece to get in today's market all the boutiques are sold out we're lucky enough to have one here we picked it up from a client of ours and we're asking 97 000 for it which is list let's see what else we have i also have a feeling that this is going to go today so this is a paddock 5981r it's factory with aftermarket diamonds it's a mix of vs and si it's 2012 complete for this we're asking 200 000. and let's get one more okay we'll move over to the rms i have a feeling that this mancini 2014 complete we have a friend that's going to be meeting us at the show today to check this out i have a strong belief that it will move today and for this we're asking 235 000. so as you guys can see sean predicted that we would sell the manchini at the show uh we did sell it to the customer who we thought we were gonna sell it to however it did not happen at the show um just yesterday which would be august 1st the our friend anthony ferrer who some of you guys would definitely know i'm sure timepiece gentleman came by the office and we did a trade and he did buy the watch we thought he was going to buy he bought one of these we actually happen to have two of them so we have one here and he traded in his old piece which we sold him as well so it's nice it's back home uh yeah also my last pick which we've sold one at every single show for the past four shows is gonna be a blue two six three three one sc so we have one right here my friend jonathan comes every single show he buys one takes it back to new york for his inventory this definitely at least or one or two we're gonna go today so sean was right we actually ended up selling four of the blue chronos and we always have more on deck we have around five or six right now here at timepiece more he wants to be more expensive he wants it to be you walk in the door you have to spend five hundred thousand dollars just for entry yeah unbelievable man let's make it we're all gonna make one the rm they like the circle shape and the price and this watch is actually sick the disney hands it's like weird 330 now bro look at the polish it's disgusting so as you guys saw i told our buddy that he killed the watch the our friend who was trying to sell us the rm1103 uh what he did was watchmakers this is not the tool i'm just using a piece of foam for explanatory purposes but watch dealers tend to sometimes have we don't even carry it because i hate using it but it's like a little scrub that's used on like watches that are basically brand new but have incurred like handling marks or display marks it's used for a light polish and what our buddy miguel did is he took the scrub to the watch and he fully took off the the the original finish of the watch so i offered him much lower than i thought i would on the watch that watch looks like fake case now bro whoever did it killed it do you think i not from me bro for me 3 30. yeah just the case looks bad bro how much is this how did you do that that was stupid bro you should have just give it to this 350 000 watch yes looks like steel and yeah i don't know what you did this is an arm 11 white gold aftermarket set baguette's on the side needs a little bit of a service we're thinking about buying it we're working it out right now all right guys so let's touch base on something that we get asked a lot um this is going to be about used watches so buying used watch oftentimes can be a good option for people if they don't want to pay a large premium for new um there's a wide variety of what is called used watches so there's the used and abused and then there's the used so whenever we're buying a used watch we want to make sure that it is still in working condition that it doesn't have anything major as far as like broken parts um something that's unrepairable so one thing that you have to take into account is materials so for instance in this clip you're gonna see me looking at an rm11 white gold um it had diamonds all over it and at this point i'm not really worried about anything being broken as far as um you know parts or anything like that because it's covered in diamonds so typically these are going to be you know in pretty similar condition um because they've been after set by a jeweler um this one in particular had something wrong with the chronograph so i checked the date wheel to make sure that the date was working i checked the chrono module um which is the the 60 second timer on the watch the flyback chrono for the rm11 so that wasn't working um so this is something to take into account whenever you're buying this watch because when we resell it to let's say you or another wholesaler we want to make sure that it's working and if it's not working we need to make sure that we're at the right price point in order to be able to sell it so in this particular instance there was a broken chrono so i took that into account making the offer um whenever you're buying a used watch definitely you know take a look at it yourself you're making a serious investment most of the time um and even if you're not you just want to make sure that your watch is working you never want to get something and it's broken and if you are getting something that's broken you want to make sure that you're at the right price point so make sure to always check into that um take a look at the watch it's pretty straightforward make sure that there's nothing significant also make sure that everything's working on the watch and that it's good to go how much is this this is 240 for you with a d wheel like that i don't know rm is expensive the chrono works should be moderate though more than 2010 right i don't know i think 2015. i was going to check 14 yeah i mean i can make an offer but it might be far bro you might be very far it's yours or you're going to buy it no no it's mine and listen you could also give me half and then happy in the next 30 days yeah but we're far from 240 bro super far yeah we're pretty far oh man like 40 000 farts 235 best is that like half and then 30 days please buy it come on do this i don't see too many balls down three families here that's a reit for a reason um no your price is favorable honestly the watch plane is like 225 to 230 right now maybe a little bit softer maybe 220 25 all right guys so we have here uh potential buy it's an ap chronograph rose gold leo messi edition so we're going to walk you through this and how we look at a watch how we determine what we're going to pay um so first thing you're going to do is you're going to find out what watch you're buying you need to know you need to know that um that being said you're also going to want to look at the condition and what everything and what it comes with so for instance this one comes with archive papers archive papers are from ap which means the original papers for the watch were lost but the watch went back to ap to get new papers issued for it so we have that here these archives are from 2013. next you're going to walk through the watch and look at the condition you're going to want to make sure that everything is working so we're going to test the chronograph which the chronograph is actually let's see the chronograph is not working on this watch so now we need to look at the the time the date date wheel is fine it's winding okay and the time also works so we have a broken chrono so it's going to need service it has archive papers right now on the market these are trading in like the upper 50 range this is an five one ap15451st 37 millimeter gray dial brand new fully stickered with the diamond bezel she sold hey guys we just bought this watch this is the leo messi rose gold reference number 263250l for sale 52 000. as you guys saw we were looking to buy this watch we bought it and like sean showed you guys the chrono was not working when we first bought it so as soon as we brought it back here to the office we took it to our watchmaker first thing chrono's running perfectly now is this granule this one yes we only have one brand new left but they made fake paper so i like that you know you want the fake paper i'll give it to you i don't want that fully [Music] i was asking 120 and on the show you're in the mood so close to this so guys there's good and bad in being at the show the good is that you sell a lot you get to network with people you haven't seen for a while but the bad is that you end up selling stuff sometimes that you don't necessarily even want to sell just because you're standing there people come and talk to you and you're just a little bored and you want to make something happen so we went to the show with six of these and i actually ended up without even realizing selling five and we came back with only one so yeah i wish we would have asked a little more for what we sold but it's also good to get the money freed up and invest in other things thank that there's a big market discrepancy in so this watch right now ap263310r blue dial it's a rose gold chronograph boutique blue edition right now trading in the market around 75 000. now this is the older version this is a 26320r rose gold white dial chronograph from ap if you look they're both 41 millimeter look very similar this is discontinued this is discontinued as of 2021 they now have a new version of this watch that has the open case back it's a little bit thicker and they change the dial so this watch like i said trading in the market 75 000 this watch trading in the market 55 000 there's a big spread between the two honestly a great watch to pick up and buy if you're looking for a chronograph and you save twenty thousand dollars the blue one already sold guys but the white one is here it's available in mint condition full set 55 000 as we said hit us up if you want so this is the full gold version of this piece over here this watch watching archives full links 83 000 and then this is the 263310r full gold this one watchbook full lengths box 105 000. so over 20 thousand dollars spread on the two both very similar obviously this one is the older movement the all black dial compared to the blue with the gold subs but a watch you should be picking up for sure the price doesn't make sense for what it is 20 000 difference guys both the black rose gold 41 millimeter chronograph and the blue one are still available if you're trying to get into a very good piece make a very good investment we believe strongly in this one just because of the price gap but if you want the hot blue dial we got that too all right guys how's it going so we had a pretty successful day today at iwjg we did a lot of trading buying selling um so we're gonna walk through our case this is everything that was bought sold today at the show um so we'll take a look we'll start with this ap vampire we move on to a rose gold rhodium dial sky dweller a 5930g patek 5230r patek a 263310r blue for rose gold a qe a nice panerai lower end another 263310r blue a skeleton stainless steel 41 millimeter a 15 400 or blue four rose gold this piece we actually bought and sold today at the show paddock 5980 1r full rows this is 2017 complete i'm sure one of our clients who's going to be getting this is going to see this in the video and be very excited and happy to know that we picked it up another two six three three 101 blue so you can see that there's a trend we sold three of them today very hot um fast selling watch and then one of the best pickups that we got today this is actually going to be on consignment from one of our good dealer friends this is an ap 39 millimeter limited of five pieces in the world it's white gold it's factory set and it's a special edition piece that we're going to be selling really beautiful almost impossible to find piece you probably will never see one ever again we'll move on uh rithik will show us what we what we ended up buying for our stock today as well so we bought a couple pieces um first we're gonna start out with something simple but very very beautiful this is us 2631 st blue uh these do very well for us as you can see here we love we love to carry them uh we pride ourselves in ap chronos so this was a good pick up for today we also bought a batgirl uh this is 2020 complete we bought a few ladies pieces 15 451 st another royal oak right here 15 500 st blue another ladies ap we're we're running low we've sold out a lot of our ladies ap so we need to stock up on them this is a 26480 sk and yeah those are our buys for the day so pretty successful day today at iwjg day one hopefully we can uh fill this box at least hopefully for one more box selling tomorrow we look forward to having a good day typically at iwjg the trade show day one is the best we'll have to see all right guys let's touch base on a topic that a lot of people have asked us about in our recent video um where we're talking about some aftermarket watches so aftermarket parts and aftermarket watches are something that you have to watch out for in the industry not in a bad connotation all the time but you do have to be aware of it and understand them so there's a few uh types of you uh there is there's a few types of aftermarket watches on the market right now there's going to be what's called a frankenstein which is going to be a watch that's put together with a bunch of various parts let's say it was water damage let's say they had a problem with it let's say that they didn't want to send it back to the service center for its respective brand and it just needed to get fixed so a watchmaker made a part put it in there um this obviously is not original to the watch will the watch work fine yes should you know that it has aftermarket parts in it 100 another type of aftermarket watch um that have come up recently are going to be these aftermarket paddocks aps rms chandeliers stuff like that so in this particular instance we were look taking a look at a few of these aftermarket paddocks we ourselves carry these in stock it's going to be a patek movement inside of a fabricated case these in particular we manufacture and we have ourselves an inventory the type of clientele that's going to buy this is going to be the guy that maybe doesn't want to shell out 500 000 or 300 000 on a factory patek or a factory set ap he's going to want to spend something a little bit less get the look of that 500 300 000 watch whatever it may be um and not break the bank also clients sometimes they will buy the original piece like let's say a 5711 are and they'll also buy a aftermarket piece why um they might wear the 5711r for a special event or when they feel safer when they're not feeling so safe maybe they're traveling maybe they're somewhere new they'll throw on the aftermarket piece also another option would be to take this aftermarket piece and put diamonds on it so not to destroy the original piece um this honestly just helps with price point so don't be too afraid of it just know what you're getting into before you buy it watch out make sure that you check with your watchmaker say hey is everything originally here or your dealer sorry um and make sure that what you're what you're getting is what you're paying for so that's something to look out for in the market definitely if you have any questions reach out to us we're happy to i'll let you
