you're watching the american athletic conference on espn plus morning call for both our teams today as we welcome you to yulman stadium in the crescent city memphis and tulane continue what's become a long-standing conference rivalry this game does have american conference championship implications memphis needs help they need to win today and win against houston next week and hope tulsa loses twice today against navy and next week against cincinnati for their fourth straight trip to the conference title game hi everyone david salzman alongside keith moreland so championship implications for memphis and for tulane an important matchup for them as well well you just start to the fact what you play is to win conference championships so there is a chance for memphis on the other side willie fritz told us this week this is a playoff game they're looking to try to get their program up go to the bowl game for the third year in a row bowl games are not as many as they would they need a w today to ensure they get an opportunity to go third straight bowl for two lane would be the first time that program has done it ever great matchups all across the board you have two that stand out well it starts with for me is the quarterback from memphis when you look at brady white this is a red shirt senior he's a veteran he's a gym rat he's always looking at film knowing where to go with the football he's very confident and he has to be because he's matched up today when i look at it one of the best defensive players in america and patrick johnson because he does so many different things he can come off the corner he has 10 sacks on the season he reads the run well plays the runwell really good matchup between those two throughout the day today and then when you go further into that when you look at both offenses you start looking at wide receiver and deuce watts he is the guy that makes thing happen for the green wave on the outside and getting back into the lineup for memphis is tj carter he's a match-up corner they will be matched over to each other all day long last time memphis took the trip down to new orleans the green wave dominated what will happen in 2020 the kickoff coming up next senior day at yulman stadium in new orleans 17 tulane seniors have won 24 games the most by any four year group at tulane in 20 years and they look to play spoiler as we mentioned a few minutes ago outside shot for memphis to make the conference title game in a couple of weeks they have to win the day they have to defeat houston next week tulsa favorite at navy but they have cincinnati next week and that's a tough matchup against the undefeated bearcats so the sights of a conference championship game still in front of memphis as we head into kickoff you got to take care of your business first and so they want to try to go on the road here uh beat a a good football team that uh quite frankly is had some turmoil not turmoil but when you lose your offensive coordinator throughout the week we'll get into that story as the game goes on but a team that's really focused on getting above 500 on the season and the other part of that david and i know we'll talk about this this is 11th game for tulane you don't see many teams that have played that many ball games across the country willie fritz has been proud of his team throughout this unprecedented season getting through week after week on the gridiron they have led in every game but are just five and five coming in memphis they've been slow starters throughout this campaign but come in with a mark of six and two memphis won the toss deferred the option to the second half and riley patterson booms the kickoff through the end zone we'll see michael pratt the true freshman lead his two-lane offense out into the field now balanced offense can do some different things you see the numbers right there he has protected the football at times in some of the games he has given the football up so that that's one of the things that you have to do right here i would think that they would like to get some play action early in this game and try to get some vertical passing game going michael pratt's been the starter for the green wave since game four this season you saw the 16 touchdown passes the most of any true freshman in the fbs lofting a pass to his tight end tyrique james and just enough for the first down on his first throw a really good play action like i said early selling the run is going to be important they sold it got it to the outside pitching catch first down this is two lanes first action in 16 days since a heartbreaker one of the most improbable games you'll see the tulsa double overtime win which was on espn as evan collins picked six to end it after two lane had multiple chances to win that one right now two for two and finds deuce watts you can see watson carter we talked about them being matched up all day long right there see deuces brother fat watts in this game mikel jones alongside him as starter pratt's a good runner five rushing touchdowns on the season and carries it a couple of yards shy of midfield this is a quarterback draw they do a nice job they set up it's an rpo look but he has the option to put it down and follows right behind the tailback gets positive yards on second down brings up a third and short that did give him the first down tulane ran the ball 75 of the time in their loss to tulsa 16 days ago but michael pratt was banged up didn't practice all that week healthier coming into this one first carry stefan hudderson and nothing doing she's brought down right away for a loss that's kawan robinson the true freshman from bryant arkansas i'd say what uh this is a young man here that's fun to watch when you look at rob's quick gets off of blockers well makes the play there saw morris joseph team leader in sacks with five and you mentioned tj carter in the open this is just his fifth game of the season but this is his 42nd start of his career blitz coming pratt rolling out on second down and lofts it out of bounds they were coming with a corner blitz that time david you saw that and pratt didn't see it as well you know he was looking for a hot receiver to the direction you always have a hot receiver look at him look to the left early your hot receiver because the blitz is coming from the right nowhere to go did a nice job of buying time getting out of bounds and now this front four will come after you here on third and long a memphis team with 20 sacks this season in eight games right in trouble on third and 11 and scrambles out of it it's gonna get to the first down marker and more past the memphis 40 as the drive stays alive well that's what he brings to the table you mentioned it earlier that pratt can run the football and he feels the pressure right away breaks down and he gets right here watch his move right here gets back to the inside that's what gained the first down and made that move got to the second level into memphis territory hudderson's second carry past the memphis 30. senior from petal mississippi had over 100 yards on the ground in the loss to tulsa 16 days ago he's a senior he's a guy that gets behind that big offensive line not big at stature 5'9 but he is tough to bring down over 200 pounds he averages six yards to carry his backup cameron carroll averages just under six yards of carry and this is a tough two-lane rushing first attack of the game and the green wave on the move last game for two lane offensive coordinator will hall just a couple of days ago announced as the new head coach at southern miss that's a catch the second for watts came in with 27 catches on the season including five touchdowns but just to stop carter giving a lot of ground right there and watch this pitching catch gets the first down well it's a really nice opening drive for the greenway jaquan jackson's first catch nice move by the sophomore from luling louisiana and he's in the red zone you know bubble screens to the outside it's so prevalent throughout college football david but what do you have to do you have to be able to block as a wide receiver it's an excellent puck he blocks two guys right there it just turns back to the inside and he makes something out of nothing prop 4 5 passing 32 yards from the memphis 15. we'll repeat two lane has led in every game this season they're used to hot starts memphis has been used to slow starts in all of 2020. loving it to the end zone deuce watts makes the catch touchdown able to get a foot in bounds michael pratt finds deuce watts for their sixth score together this season we talked about the matchup and it's carter against watts and boy this is an outstanding throw by the true freshman bucketball lays it up in the corner watts comes down watch his left foot come down justin inside the boundary as right here you can see his left foot watch it comes down right there for the touchdown you could not have thrown that pass beautiful any better merrick glover the p-a-t through again willie fritz called this an nfl playoff game tulane looking for yet another winning season american athletic conference football on espn plus brought to you by geico 15 minutes could save you 15 percent or more on car insurance it's not often you talk about winning seasons around here but willie fritz has two lane with back-to-back winning seasons going for their third straight winning season today with the win be the first time for this program in 39 years this man's done a tremendous job in the crescent city this century he told us this week and he went i'm not talking about 1900 but since 2000 and i said i understand willie yeah that would be how successful the senior class has been 24 wins the best in 20 years but again 39 years since they've had three straight winning seasons it's tough to win down here so another slow start for the memphis tigers yet six and two on the season two of those wins include rallying from 13 down in the final four minutes of the fourth to defeat ucf and usf and the biggest reason why is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in brady white well you look at him he's a confident scene redshirt senior he has the ability to make changes and checks at the line and they rely a lot on him he can make things happen he makes good decisions and a lot of good pre-snap reads through for 358 into one over two lane last year five touchdowns but last time in new orleans under 50 completion percentage and a loss 40-24 big hit on first down taj washington the redshirt freshman makes the cash for a couple this is a really nice job coming back from the inside and making the play by kerr the nickelback quick throw incomplete looking for his best receiver and calvin austin the third has been one of the best in the nation the past six weeks white approaching 10 000 passing yards in his memphis career asa martin gets the start of tail back for rodriguez clark but their offensive coordinator kevin johns tells us it will be running back by committee today albina essay manuela rona lopez dylan parham three very experienced men up front for the tigers who face third and eight catch made and austin hangs on took a lick by the strong safety larry brooks but that's calvin austin the third just at five nine 162 extending the drive white does a great job watching takes a great touch here over the top of moody the linebacker and boy you pay for it when you go across the middle had memphis's only touchdown last week in their first ever win at navy a 10-7 win rare low scoring game for these tigers going deep for austin here and has him and calvin austin the third has yet another touchdown his ninth of the season oh this is a great job they caught the green wave david in a blitz and you got a double move on the outside and austin you can see his numbers right there just a fantastic receiver he just stop and go gets behind the secondary and white lays this ball up perfectly did he overthrow him right here almost austin runs through it for the touchdown you see austin's speed i think ryan silverfield memphis head coach had a great quote about him said when he joined our program as a walk-on he was a track guy trying to get better at football now he's a great football player who happens to be great at track he ties things up in the crescent city american athletic conference football on espn plus brought to you by the air force reserve start your adventure with the air force reserve 59 yards the strike from brady white to calvin austin iii to tie things up he's an all-american track athlete in multiple events but he has been maybe the best addition on the gridiron for the memphis tigers you see in the three events champions of the american conference indoor but now he has 900 yards receiving on the season was just a walk-on until late last year well you look at the scenario sometimes it's difficult to have speed what speed does and how it transfers and sometimes it's just a great example he was a track guy playing football now he's a football player that runs track he has become easily brady white's best target now that kick was caught and then with the foot out of bounds jaquan jackson is going to be marked out of bounds at the one a mistake here uh you just look at it he was trying to get in position and when inside the one-yard line so horrible starting field position just an excellent job felt like we didn't mention it in the first part of this broadcast i felt like kicking game was going to be very important the outcome of this game is going to be special teams let's see how much this hurts tulane michael pratt led his team on a 10-play 75-yard drive to begin thank you pratt was the backup to keon howard until game three of the season against southern miss tulane was struggling pratt came in and by the end of the game green wave had put up 66 in the blowout win over the team that will be led by michael pratt's offensive coordinator for one more game will hall well it's difficult for you know young guys you're a freshman you hadn't had the opportunity to get all the snaps you know 20 20. everybody's heard this but you know training camp was different there was no summer off season everything that goes into that scenario so it took a while for a lot of these guys to get their feet under them and where they want to go but he's done a nice job since taking over first carry for cameron carroll and can't break it to the outside cole mashburn the redshirt freshman has stepped up his game the last month brings him down well there is will hall so on wednesday name the new head coach just sounds like a perfect tire he's from amory mississippi winner the harlan hill trophy best player in division two in 2003 he's won everywhere he's been and ever since 2017 made a name for himself as the offensive coordinator in louisiana he's been able to go up the ranks and now a head coach in 2021 for a season was the tight ends coach alongside ryan silverfield as offensive line coach at memphis from the end zone pratt in trouble and has to loft this away and so back to your point keith on special teams the mistake on the return by jackson now leads to tulane having to pin it away from deep in their end zone when you have two teams that that uh you look at your lane they have played much better than their record and you look at memphis who has taken advantages of some scenarios and knows how to win has been winning now for a while he just felt like this game might boil down to a mistake on special teams and first one right here it's going to lead to excellent field position for the memphis tigers and calvin austin iii is back to return this punt had a punt return for a score against sfa and almost broke one against navy last week and here a nice return past the two-lane 40 and brought down a ride around the 35 and so in the early going yet again the junior from memphis has made an impact brady white saw his tigers down nothing just continuing a trend even against fcs stephen f austin two weeks ago that was a 2014 game late in the third quarter yet six and two coming into this one keith moreland four and two in conference play i think that goes to a red shirt senior that it doesn't panic it he knows that hey we're going to get there and he figures it out and the adjustments that he makes and this coaching staff makes is is really important when you're down in ball games brady white his 84th touchdown pass on their last drive this throw incomplete looking for washington well they were trying an rpo and trying to get washington out in some space that was really good defense the pressure got to him quickly there was white had to get rid of it before he wanted to throw it one change of the offensive line for memphis right guard evan fields is out matt dale in his place second and ten now for wyatt and the tiger offense short gain to the 33 that's asa martin the auburn transfer well this is that deal third down such a big down to get sean dykes involved he is a match-up nightmare the 6-2 221-pound redshirt senior tight end number five he is really difficult on nickels and linebackers he's in the slot at the bottom of your screen number one among fbs tight ends in third down receiving yards throwing to martin in two lane ready nick anderson junior from vicksburg mississippi makes the stop well anderson just what a great job there was man coverage by tulane and he had the back out of the backfield all the momentum was going to the wide side dykes comes in motion they fake the bubble screen but when you're in man coverage your guy's slipping out the opposite direction you got to be right there and he was second on the team and tackles coming in anderson transfer from jones county junior college this is great defense to limit this to a field goal attempt riley patterson senior from edwardsville illinois plenty of leg but he pushes it right and so after the nice punt return by calvin austin the third set memphis up at two lanes 35 tigers unable to take their first lead mistake on both sides he did didn't take advantage miss field goal after the mistaken special teams where tulane took over at the one yard line so you look at those two scenarios broke even well new year's day college football playoff is here will cincinnati take part in the cfp we have the rose bowl game at five o'clock eastern new year's day and then the all-state sugar bowl at 8 45. just caught a glimpse of will hall seeing his offense out on the field for the third time hudderson a short gain on first down great opening drive for the green wave and you look at will hall calling plays he's on the sideline doing his job it hasn't been able to get that running game going to this point you mentioned it last week they ran the football exceptionally well coming in 224 rushing yards a game tulane that's a big deal for tulane to have an assistant get his ticket to an fbs head coaching job i don't know if it's ever happened with this program before well you know when i say modern times i'm an older guy so i can say modern times but i i got to tell you that it hasn't happened and it is great it's a great indication of where the program is it's great indication uh willie fritz and what he's done uh to get a guy to get a program like southern miss and i'm telling you what you get it going at southern miss that is a difficult place to go win a football game when we get fans back of course in the future so it is uh congratulations to him and and to southern miss i think they got a good one coming and willie fritz spoke so highly of will hall proud of him for making the move to hattiesburg as next year's head coach says he knows every third person in mississippi he'll do just fine there saw john cartwright come off the field sophomore defensive end for memphis they're without o'brien goodson the star nose tackle is in warm up close on the sideline so they will miss him today he makes plays too that is a huge miss against the team that wants to run the football this good move right here he had a little spin move going on a little game up front just broke a tackle pratt looking to throw on first down tripped up a few yards shy of midfield well that that was a quick release he was gonna get back after play action get rid of the football good coverage on the back end had to put it down that's the other thing he does so well as we mentioned in that first drive when it's not there he has the president's mind to put it down and make something out of nothing looks like two lanes had to make some changes on the right side of their offensive line john remember like a true freshman that guard trey tuggle true freshman is that right tackle we were told ben newton would be a game time decision but we don't see him right now and tamari jones his first cash but setting up third down but they're putting themselves in very manageable third down situations this third and four you want to get in that's where you want to be and all of that goes back to pratt being able to make something positive on first down first down markers at the 44. third and fourth coming for will hall's offense man coverage with a free safety to the ground it's jones boy that lean got him close to the 44 but when you see the official on the top of your screen he's going to mark him a yard shot well you're in a little bit of that no man's land too far for a field goal you really don't want to punt from the 40-yard line see him start to move but they stopped his momentum it looked like he got a little forward lean right there but he's going to come up a yard short joseph dorsius wearing number 94 got his arms around jones senior from spring texas one of their best players up front you try to draw them offsides are they going for it here in that area where you really got to be cautious they take the snap spin move and second effort cameron carroll continues the drive for the green wave no he's just good vision he just keeps those legs moving he he stops short david here and then he just has that the ability to keep those legs moving and spins out of it gets the first down i think that's dorsius now down so we saw john cartwright exit the game a few plays ago they're without their nose tackle o'brien goodson today are the tigers and here's joseph dorsius 15 career sacks 34 career tackles for loss it was all conference last season well there's just a massive humanity right there and he's at the bottom of that pile taking the brunt of that good to see him get up to the sitting position he's had 22 tackles for losses the last two seasons was not the first dorsius in the memphis uniform his older brother doraleon had over 2000 career rushing yards as a tiger checking out perhaps the back of his neck but yeah good news as you see him sit up and and now get up and on his own power we'll head to the sideline well you talked about goodson not available already another defensive lineman out of the game and you just you get into these mass of humanities and you can just see that your body gets you get twisted up in there you don't want to be there folks i can tell you so now dorsius goodson cartwright all out see quan robinson and in the interior of the line with maurice white jr from detroit michigan from the 42. fake to carroll and pratt wants the throw looking deep to the end zone catch made yes touchdown it's jaquan jackson's sixth touchdown catch of the year and a beautiful throw from the true freshman in prep oh this is really well done they go play action do a great job of setting it up showing the run establishing some run offensive line does a great job of holding up and then jackson on a deep post right here puts it down pratt watch him step in and deliver perfectly thrown ball down in the end zone just a sophomore jackson now tied with deuce watts for the receiving touchdown lead for tulane merrick glover has his second pat of the morning fun game so far four minutes to go in the first and already 14-7 and a couple of things are jumping off the page tulane has not got huge numbers running the football but they've been effective enough running the football to be able to go to play action and memphis did not take advantage of the miscue on special teams came up empty and tulane finds a way to jump back into the lead that was an excellent drive after taking over at the miss field goal so now 18 touchdown passes for pratt this season most by any true freshman in the fbs and we talked about the senior class for tulane and certainly we need to give credit to memphis senior class as well and they'll have another game next week against houston how about that 36 wins for the tigers since 2017. and although a 500 record for willie fritz's squad since 2017 seems pedestrian look what he had to take over just 25 wins the previous seven seasons yeah you look at that scenario to be able to to look at that and have that many wins for this a senior class and maybe three consecutive bowl trips that's a fantastic job short kick and on the return trip to just past the 20-yard line that's taj washington brady white with a 59-yard touchdown pass to calvin austin the third so far overall these four of six for 73 yards we thought this would be a really good offensive fun game and there would be some points on the board and right now you've got a match and that's what memphis job right here to come out find a way to get that job done dulane won here over memphis two years ago 40 to 24 in their last meeting in new orleans and ryan silverfield said on sunday first team meeting of the week i wrote 40 to 24 on the board to remind my team of them white might have gotten a yard on first down nick anderson another tackle i tried to run a little zone read right there everybody's staying at home and one thing so far memphis has not been able to establish much running game to this point of the game that's been their problem all season and especially lately had 75-yard rushing in the win at navy last week and just 98 yards against south florida three weeks ago now this is that veteran leadership a check right there get the coverages right the protection's right he reads that blitz finds asa martin jayla monroe had a hand around his ankle setting up third and short this is a really nice job it doesn't look like much folks but white changes the protection he reads the blitz he knows it's coming from this film study checks out of it gets a hot receiver and makes it a very manageable third down incomplete austin wants a flag there's one coming there was some contact there ball was a little bit behind him and there might have been some contact but comes up with a stop and tulane will get the football right back here in this first quarter jayla monroe made the nice stop of martin on second down and there's in coverage here yeah there was definitely con he was early no call on the play has the next defensive back sometimes you just got to get away with one no harm no foul right that's exactly right no flag no foul literally i think we're going to have illegal procedure against memphis here adam williams will need to do this over prior to the snap full start offense number eight five yard penalty remains fourth down son xavier collins so another try for adam williams junior from lebanon tennessee averaging 43 yards a punt jaquan jackson who had the touchdown catch a few minutes ago to give tulane the lead is back for the green wave turning those legs forward progress will take him well they'll actually down him right at the 40-yard line michael pratt just two incomplete passes and two touchdown throws that's his team up 14-7 and tulane has the ball again well they've been able to to run the football enough to set up the play action pratt's done a nice job of getting vertical in the passing game off of that play action and defensive depth the defensive line may be something we start to watch for the memphis tigers i want to bring up the offensive line again as well because seeing you just came out into the field trey tuggles at right tackle he's a true freshman also at right guard josh remelik again out a true freshman as well and two lanes without their star left guard corey dublin who had made 48 straight starts coming into today this is his first ever missed game as a two-lane player that passes out of the reach of deuce watts the last scheduled game of your senior year and you've played you've had that many starts in a row and you know he's very disappointed he wasn't unable to make the start today that offensive line's done a nice job though so far sincere hainsworth is at center just a sophomore but this is his 16th start five white set for pratt that's through to the hands incomplete that was hudderson for huddersfield running back but when you're out there as a wide receiver it's a running back you know you can get the ball and you sort of know where the defense is coming he saw a linebacker come in there he heard a little footsteps that time because coming from the inside was flying to him and it was going to be difficult for him to gain any yards if there's a completion chance for the tigers to get off the field here third long up the middle incomplete jacoby francis tipped the ball away mike hill jones was the intended target this is really nice job of stepping in front giving away playing zone coverage the safety's there but he cuts in front he's got help behind him david so it allows you to undercut it get that right hand on the football and three and out for two lanes so both defenses stepping up here late in the first quarter ryan white jr from san ramon california gets the punt away austin calls fair catch calvin austin the third 59-yard touchdown grab tied things up at seven since then a 42-yard strike for two lanes michael pratt to jaquan jackson that's the green wave of 14-7 we're told no plans for tulane to schedule a game next week this is definitely their last regular season game memphis has houston at the liberty bowl next saturday not a time to be determined brady white five of eight passing so far for 80 yards austin nice job extending his body to get a couple of extra yards well he had those underneath drags from both sides crisscross and austin does a nice job when you're crisscrossing your inside slot receivers those linebackers have a tendency to make contact with each other and there was contact white flushed out of the pocket this time looks for austin again and hasn't fourth catch for austin in the first quarter and they were coming with a nickel blitz that time was two lane from the right side and you can see white fills it steps inside looking downfield austin ten yard penalty replay first half it's going to come back with a holding penalty brian silverfield who told his team look all of our hopes are still in front of us it was matt dale the right guard call for the hold memphis wins today defeats houston next week they'll make the conference title game for the fourth straight year if tulsa loses twice now tulsa has cincinnati next week obviously a tough matchup for them they are at navy at 2 30 central time we'll be on espn2 catch may that's washington brexit freshman from marshall texas has the second grab well keep mentioning it but when you have a veteran quarterback they just don't panic it white was looking trying to get this ball to dikes in the middle of the field he was double covered put it down bought time sliding to the outside and pitch and catch makes it manageable now on second down brady white is 203 yards away from becoming the all-time passing leader in memphis history he's going to face second along after that loss and there is patrick johnson his 40th career tackle for loss bringing marquis weaver down but he is just such a force off of the the backside they were trying to run a delayed draw and he was just coming off the corner now it's protect the football here this is third and forever with that six yards loft back to the 25 third down and 16. delayed blitz white still with time and incomplete looking for washington willie langham on coverage it just tells you what a penalty does to you you get a first down you get backed up and then you you get outside of your normal rotation of plays and you have to go straight drop back and jolene will get after you if you drop back pass i guess try to against him mention the luxury memphis has with brady white not just his talent and his numbers but fifth year senior and he's had to deal with the running game that has progressively gotten worse they're at minus one rushing yard so far today jackson trying to cut the corner and able to for a few extra yards but both defenses now david you start to feel that they all these offenses went up and down the field as we have a flag on the play and that in the first seven minutes of this first quarter since then we've had three and outs on both sides twice during the return personal foul illegal blind side block receiving team number 37 15-yard penalty from the spot on the foul first down too late macon clark called for the illegal blind side block right there yeah it's it's one of those things we used to say oh what a great block because it wasn't a clip but in in in today's world with safety of players i do like what what we're seeing with that blind you're seeing it called more and more in each ball game throughout the year because you just you're not you don't know he's there and well that's a sudden jolt to take that that blow wasn't long ago that type of play oh he got you a high five from your teammates always thought how hard it is on these players though to have to kind of retrain that mindset not to make blocks like that you heard the oohs and oz from the crowd when it happened it's not too lame starting from their own 17. plenty of time and going deep again as pratt coming back to make the grab that is fat watts his brother deuce with a touchdown having fat's first catch of the day to end the first quarter uh it's such an advantage for the receiver when the ball's a little bit under thrown and this ball waffles a little bit right here but he's able to see it come back to it come up with the big reception 14-7 at the end of the first david salesman keith moorland in new orleans fun first quarter willie fritz's green wave up 14-7 and this is familiar territory for his group they're 1-3 when leading after the first quarter in 2020 they have led in every game this season yet are five and five coming into this contest and these are three heartbreaking losses led 24-nothing against navy at the half lead changes back and forth at home against smu and then uh the most heartbreaking of them all losing to tulsa 16 days ago in double overtime pratt on first down looking for hutterson down field who was crunched by two tigers cullen's one of them no flag incomplete again play action and getting vertical in the passing game this ball floats just a little and just hangs up there long enough for it to be knocked away and i tell you what lindsay did a nice job playing free safety right there coming in and getting that ball knocked away for tulsa to win that game 16 days ago they needed to convert two fourth downs to tie it at 14. two lane took a late 21-14 lead a hail mary tied it at 21 and in double overtime is david collins pick six so many chances for tulane to win that game and they've had 16 days to think about it coming into this one tavian tolls has his first grab of the game this is a good route by tolls he sells it to the inside back to the outside pitch and catch first down tolls from houston former stratford spartan where andrew luck went to high school now for the memphis 27. pride up to 150 yards passing and two touchdowns his tenth completion and tyree james wrapped up by francis right away see the maturity now in the 11th ball game of the year of a true freshman i've had the opportunity to do chilean games before you can see how his confidence is growing by leaps and bounds right now his best game of the season was three weeks ago against army 197 yards two touchdowns he's on pace to easily have his best game yardage wise this year carol in trouble tyrese lindsey gives him a shoulder well that was good defense they kept feathering this to the sidelines you know it's an influential play you're pulling the off guard and tackle trying to influence the defensive line memphis stayed at home third down now green waver one of four on thirds but they've had big plays so far including at the end of the first quarter a 38-yard pass to fat watts on third down they're showing nickel blitz that time and see if they come out of it here as pratt looks to the sidelines now here comes the call they run it on third and seven carol is about a yard shy of the first down marker it's one of those things where you look and you see what the defense is doing you make that decision now do you go for it here on fourth down because it it did make it a manageable fourth down for sure here see the first down marker at the top of your screen is right at the 17. looking to throw and finds carol for the first down didn't look pretty but it got the job done well it was really well designed play they they fake it to carol and then pratt gets out nobody picks up carol and he just gets to the outside and lays it up makes it first and goal with the throw as pride is under stress right he's and running toward the sideline close to a shot put finding his tail back on the jet fat watts brought down past the five now as a defensive end david your first responsibility is contained well when you see that that guy coming in motion your direction first thing you got to get up the field and turn it back to the inside is exactly memphis did played that perfectly but still some positive yards on first down that's john cartwright we saw him banged up in the first quarter good to see him back on the field rudger freshman caleb thomas is in at left guard and corey dublin who had started the last 48 games is out today pratt into the end zone touchdown third total touchdown of the day and his sixth rushing touchdown of 2020. a counter option this time and didn't have to pitch it to the outside it was set up perfectly memphis only one defender there couldn't take the option man r pratt into the end zone that's a that's a big drive right there fourth down conversion a major part of it they have converted fourth down on their last two touchdown drives and i'll let go what you say you can see the michael pratt as a confident young man and more and more confident as the season goes along he leads a nine play 83 yard drive in the green wave looking for their sixth win of the year up two scores well a good recovery so far for the greenway because one of the most improbable endings you'll ever see this is third string tulsa quarterback davis brynn 16 days ago in tulsa hail mary to tie the game at 21 and yet in double overtime tulane still a chance to win but steven collins intercepts the michael pratt pass and one of the best linebackers in the nation well pratt's trying so hard to catch up but collins takes it 96 yards into the end zone continuing what has been a miracle season for tulsa they have found ways to win all season long 4-0 when trailing by double digits in the fourth this season they're undefeated in conference play and yet two laners look good so far you know willie fritz told us he said if we had played last week he didn't know if his team would have been ready it took a long time for his young team to kind of get over the sting of that loss yeah you look at it you see mr pratt right there you know you throw that pick sometimes it's hard to get over but he has been outstanding in this first half against memphis 11 of 17 for 166 and two scores good return taj washington still breaking tackles about four or five so far and able to take it past the 35. well this memphis team has has been one of the elite teams in the american over the last few years and they're going to be asked to respond right here it's difficult get that done you know still had visions of maybe representing uh getting into the conference championship game but it's going to rely on this senior quarterback to get something going here because right now they have been unable to run the football and relying strictly on offense through the air brady white at 3 58 against two lane and a win last year and may have to get to that point here today he's at 101 passing yards his 12th pass attempt going deep for austin and just under threw him a bit incomplete jalen monroe was there on coverage a double move on the outside austin and out and up as you mentioned just a little bit under thrown those out and ups a lot of times you got to get the ball out of your hand a little quicker he had he checked down it was not his original route he was looking for the tight end again they haven't got the ball to sykes yet kyle and watkins first carry and the run struggles continue for the tigers they're now at minus two yards on the ground a loss of one for the first carry for the junior from memphis in his third consecutive possession that we're third eleven twelve or sixteen it's hard to convert third and more than ten tigers one of four on third so far as you said keith another long third down here first down marker at the 46. white in trouble lost the football hit from behind as he throws and almost found austin but incomplete if you can't get to the quarterback you got to get your hands out and try to swipe at it and he was stepping up right here to escape the rush buckets batted out of his hands and fortunately for memphis he was able to get back on top of it but it just disrupted the timing of the play you see stepping up right here just one hand reaching out there somebody got their hand in and then disrupt the timing player down for two lanes so a stoppage of play unable to identify the number yet it was nick anderson who hit brady wide as he released that football you know back to white on the memphis offense and this isn't on white of course but that running game ryan silverfield has called it multiple times embarrassing i mentioned not even 100 yards on the ground in their wins over south florida and navy even if you're a great quarterback like brady white that is a lot of pressure on the fifth year senior to lead your team to come from behind wins you don't have your starting tail back today either clark out clark's out and kenneth gainwell opted out before the season started american conference rookie of the year last season very much missed was marvin moody coming off the field on his own power for the green wave another adam williams punt as javon jackson takes it out of bounds it's been 31 years since tulane could say they beat memphis at home two straight times this is tulane's last regular season game started off with a comfort behind win over south alabama mentioned they've led at some point in all games this season but six and five with the win today would be special here be the third straight winning season for tulane and they still hope to go to a bowl game by the way the win over army tulane's first win over a ranked opponent in 36 years now you look at that scenario houston smu and ucf right in a row right there a high scoring shootout type of bears as you mentioned in all three of those ball games with the lead only houston and ucf was not in doubt late so there's a holding call on tulane on the return and that's why they will start this drive at their own nine green wave already with 224 yards of total offense so we have 959 to go in the first half amari jones is the tailback on first down and memphis without o'brien goodson all-conference player last season up front masper makes the stop a good yardage for jones on first down he is so quick and makes so many things happen in the run defensive game you can tell that's that's a young man they missed you don't see a guy left that big wears number one and i don't see joseph dorsius out there yet he was banged up earlier today so they're two all-conference players on the defensive line are not on the field here coming back to make the catch you know mark jones down at the 21-yard line crowd transfer from patterson louisiana that's a really good job by jones of working back to the football as a wide receiver you got to keep coming back to your quarterback get past the line to gain if he doesn't cut that distance down that ball gets batted away enough for the first jones morgan yardage on that first down carry thomas pickens the linebacker one of the tigers there to stop him the green wavis has been able to run the ball good mix of pass and get it the vertical vertical passing game to go with it right now they're rolling offensively very confident fake to jones pratt swings it out fat watts lost the football and i think he got it back that's the break memphis needed the ball bounces right back to watts get out in space ball's completed starting to turn up field make a play it's an oblong object and it bounces right back to him another player down for the green wave a physical game so far in the crescent city timeout on the field green wave looking for just their second win over memphis in their last 14 tries michael pratt will be without one of his better receivers michael jones it looks like for the time being he limped off the field that was why we had a stoppage of play the oklahoma transfer but you see his numbers already at 177 today he's approaching his career high we're not halfway through the second he'll scramble on first down flag down this likely coming back comes from the official that has you on his back sits around that offensive line usually it's offensive holding and that's what it is the empire sits right in behind the defensive line and that's what he's watching is the offensive line it's a dangerous you can see him right there in the middle right there he sees it reaches in right there says that's holding that was the center hainesworth call for the hold kawan robinson replacing all conference nose tackle o'brien goodson draws the penalty now first and 20. quick throw to jones and another tackle by pickens pickens one of the senior leaders on this memphis defense had 31 tackles on the year coming in he does a nice job they put him in motion and he's in man coverage with the back he gets to the outside and slides out in difficult scenario as a linebacker on a back when you get out in the flat but it does a nice job coming up securing the tackle another quick throw and jones another catch this time tj carter makes the stop well carter is is is that unknown element we we highlighted him in the open it's an outstanding corner he's been injured off and on most of the year this year but he is when he's right it's one of the better corners in the american athletic 42 starts coming into today 179 tackles for carter in his career and seven interceptions third and 11 here blitz pickens chasing pratt he'll catch up to him and throw him down second sack of the year for the senior and pratt took a hit pratt slow to get up he you take the whole body weight of pickens coming down on top of him it took him a little while to get up you pay a price you can see the end of this as he gets him drives down and get it on that left shoulder and that see if that young man is okay seeing that talking to him right there looks like he's all right he's a tough young man that hurts because you're trying to protect yourself and fill that whole body weight down on top of you 245 pound punter ryan wright a second punt one of the better punters in the conference it's a favorable bounce there brady white and the memphis attack looking to rally from two touchdowns down a tiger win would mean at least seven wins for seven straight seasons with brady wide and his offense has some work to do held a 99 total yard so far minus two on the ground and two lane up to 244 yards now you look at the scenario did he haven't been able to run the football at all from memphis they had one big play to play to austin for the touchdown other than that they haven't gotten much going officer you got to credit this green wave defense they've done a nice job so far on the jet sweep we're getting taj washington more involved today takes a lick around the 35-yard line helmet comes off as well you'll have to come out of the game even though the helmet came off out of bounds i would think that they would force him to check out and they do again the jet sweep works when you don't have penetration tulane does a good job of limiting the yardage there with the penetration face kirschen made the hit didn't play last week or in the last game rather for the green wave able to keep his balance as martin positive yards brought down just shy of the 45. i tell me if i'm wrong but i think that's the first two rushing plays that have gained the first down in the ball game for memphis yes back to back they get 11 yards that doubles their rushing output it's just their fourth first down overall memphis score a 59-yard touchdown throw from brady white to calvin austin the third quite in trouble incomplete looking for austin and it was monroe on coverage well it's anytime you see a quarterback throw back across his body it scares you to death and this ball just hung up a little bit because you can't step into it and deliver the football david right here you can see him get to the outside and he's running now when you go back across the body you just can't get that arm strength on it ball hangs up just a little bit able to be batted away white's down now to just 50 completion percentage at 7-14 quick throw to austin his fifth catch austin breaks free down the sideline and good yardage well he's such an incredible athlete makes things happen when he gets the ball in his hands you give him an eight yard cushion you're going to get the ball doing in correction his fourth catch but in nine targets first down from the two lane 40. martin trying to cut it outside and kirshan was right there well that's a real nice tackle hold your holds your ground tries to make a move to the inside and it's just hard to bring down the big back in the open field really does it breaks down and that's a perfect tackle senior from knoxville tennessee and pershing came in with 218 career tackles four interceptions as well there's a gain of four for martin now second and six biggest run of the day for martin into the red zone this is really nice blocking up front it's a trap and these offensive lineman do a good job watch the guy come to the outside steps back in he gets up up the field he gets good positive yardage and memphis does get the ball to start the second half it's one of those times in a ball game where you might steal a possession right here that you score quickly obviously tulane will have an opportunity with just over three minutes to go in the half martin or other austin in motion martin gets the carry gets about five dorian williams brings him down i guess they heard what we were talking about because they're all of a sudden now moving the ball on the ground this offensive line getting some push martin with a really good possession here 40 yards on the ground this drive for the tigers kylan watkins not the tailback austin at the top of your screen white looking for him incomplete jalen monroe has been on calvin austin the third most of this game yeah this is a deep whip route or zip route where he comes to the inside like on a quick slant and then turns back to the outside and that was excellent coverage that time and white that's one that you got to sort of lay up but he really didn't have time as he comes in and they try to work back to the outside that's just great leverage i mean take away the ability to get back to the outside to the football tigers just one of five on thirds to the ground watkins has the first down it looks like oh he is i don't think that's a great mark no neither i i i agreed with you but where they're bringing that ball down that's gonna be about six inches short they're not even measuring it is fourth down well they review the spot clock running down approaching two minutes to go going for it on fourth and a foot all white trumpton somehow found austin and then as he gets hit from behind that ensures the first down he gets stepped on by one of his own offensive linemen as he's coming back to pass what he just you can see gets tripped up and stepped on amazing that this is completed and austin gets just enough for the first down outstanding effort defense number seven half the distance to the goal result in a first step green wave also called for a penalty which will move the ball up a few yards i don't know because chase kirschen had a hold of austin at first it was hard to tell if he would have the first down anyway but then nathan clark hits him from behind and that pushed austin forward a good yard see the stepped on right there on his right foot couldn't get into the throw austin you're right at the beginning but i think the initial catch at the beginning might have been enough for the first down martin kirschen there oh and a late flag as well senior incursion has been active this drive as has asa martin clark stopped 147 to go second quarter it's a big call right here at this point of juncture in the ball game the flag was thrown after the play was ruled dead at least it looked like that from our vantage point so you see martin down and you see right there washington and clark going at it here's the call they're found by both teams after the play personal foul unnecessary roughness offense number 18 personal foul because it looked like to me that usually the last person that throws the punch and we got an opportunity to watch the end of this tulane was the last person to uh throw through a push or that type of thing and and because of that it goes both ways but they have been tangled up together you can see them right at the bottom of your screen tangled up both hooding on the boy but that last one right there that that's that to me is uh what does washington do at all i think that's a major break for tulane because clark gets in two shoves or shoved to put it lightly now the most important thing is both of those young men uh have one more personal foul and they're ejected from the game so that you you do put that in in perspective that's why if you're going to call it both ways we're going to say all right this happens again uh y'all could both be removed from the game so it's second and goal washington's at the bottom of your screen calvin austin the third will be to the left of white they've connected for memphis's only score today washington in motion sect adonis freeloo the true freshman from hahnville louisiana they were trying to get a crisscross pattern at the top of your screen and white had to hold it too long good coverage in the secondary second timeout he's trying to get it you see he's looking that way he's looking for the crisscross it's not there got to have that time that clock has got to be going off in your head it's not there it's a three-step drop it's a three-step drop and you hold it for that extra second you go down first sack for tulane today and now the green wave have called timeouts after the last two plays as willie fritz wants enough time for his offense to add points before the break so memphis still with their three timeouts remaining a lot of times look we haven't seen ivory in the game david he is a match-up big receiver could it be this time that you get him out on the corner and try to uh to get a 50 50 ball in one of the back cones on a bucket throw see if they how they line up here i would think it would be him or austin but right here he with his size he becomes a real match-up problem the big tight end sean dykes does not have a catch today for memphis austin's in the slot to the right of brady white bringing pressure locking it to the end zone it was under thrown and a flag it comes late austin was the intended receiver and again monroe was in coverage on him road gets called because the ball is under throat and austin's trying to work back to it and as a defender he didn't turn his head and look for the football and there's the contact right there awesome with no opportunity to come back to the football it's going to be first and goal that's been a fun matchup monroe coming in leading the team in past breakups senior from dallas one of the best receivers in the league and calvin austin the third now first and goal and still 137 to go in the second and seen the fullback in the game from memphis today oftentimes it's joseph dorsius but he was banged up in the first quarter this is weaver on the carry a couple of yards short tigers are using john hassell they're back up tied in this fullback that's a got nice job in that defensive third and final charge patrick johnson right in there holding up his in not sure who took the time out here tulane just used their last timeout i think you've got to run the football again here if you're memphis because now you're in control of the clock no matter what you come away with this uh you could limit the the time of possession for tulane well although memphis has done much better on the ground this drive easily the best they've done all games they have eight rushing touchdowns all season and five came against stephen f austin they only have three rushing touchdowns against fbs competition all year they've struggled in this department no question uh it is second and goal but you know i think i formation would be a good idea again and try to hand it off tackle and live to play on third down but you can take you know 40 seconds off of the clock here and take it down to about 40 seconds left in the game so they do go double tight end with the old traditional eye formation behind white to washington going for the corner and he's got it the speed of taj washington gives memphis their second touchdown of the day well that's a really good drive right here at the end of the first quarter white and how did they get it going just as you mentioned david it's about running the football here they were able to to get some push the offensive line doing a nice job and take advantage of the pi in the end zone and put it in and just like that making it a one possession ball game nice play call by kevin johns memphis offensive coordinator as washington has his first rushing touchdown in a memphis uniform see 13-play drive and as you said keith we still have 118 to go in the second but memphis does get the ball to begin the second half 2400 fans here and some of them wearing blue happy with what they just saw uh senior day you know there's a lot of parents that glad that they got the opportunity to see their sons and and their senior last home game with that opportunity to come to the game and it you can just look at the two who would you think is the senior the true freshman right now having a marvelous first half already approaching a career high 15-21 passing boy the memphis run game come through when it needed because brady white just had one completion on that drive of course did have the pass interference in the end zone to allow the drive to continue be hard-pressed to believe that he'll only complete 50 of his passes in the second half that's when he's been at his best this year he has and he makes good adjustments which we talked about it has a lot of freedom and now what do you do right here if you're willing fritz you got 118 if you get a good field position i would assume you would try to get down the field no timeouts though riley patterson kicks this away returnable for jackson a couple of good cuts and there he goes patterson's chasing him nifty move to get right past midfield and this is exactly what tulane wanted well now now it makes sense why why did you take the timeouts you go well okay well all of a sudden now you got the ball at the 50. a really nice move right there back to the inside lindsey couldn't hold his footing and then what about that little stutter step saying i better get out of bounds now so still 108 remaining jackson the sophomore from boutique louisiana just south of new orleans a couple of nice returns in this one and a 42-yard touchdown grab from michael pratt who's 15 to 21 through the air in the first half ball right at the 50. pass tipped intended for deuce watts that was carter on coverage uh carter does a nice job it's hard to get that right hand around and and knock a ball away and not interfere but he did a nice job of not making contact getting that right hand around to bat that football away michael pratt looks like he has fun we've seen him with a smile on his face a lot today already grew up in boca raton florida he you can see his maturity the difference from him from a month ago to today growing up on the beach will lighten you up going deep on second down another pass breakup this time it's francis with jackson the intended receiver well this ball hangs a little bit uh jackson had an opportunity to the inside just watch this ball it floats just a little bit right here there was a little contact but going back to the football the difference is he had his head looking at the football as a defender and so that little incidental contact's not going to get called you'd think tulane will run the ball here memphis has three timeouts left there's 56 seconds to go and it's third and long coming i think memphis is going to use the timeout well this is a chance to get a three and out regardless of what you think you might be able to do with the time remaining you want to get this stopped because you're you give up a first down here you're basically getting up a three-point opportunity because the ball's at the 50-yard line i know we've said this often but again two lanes led in every game this season although they're five and five coming in and willie fritz says we match up well enough now talent wise to win more games simply comes down to execution and look experience has to play a part too and i don't just mean pratt being just a true freshman this is a pretty young team on the offensive side of the ball it is and and the good thing is you say well they they've learning how to win they just haven't been able to get over the hump where they they can guarantee wins once they get leads in the second half let's see if they throw here on third and ten will look to throw in trouble and sacked now you would take the time out again if you're memphis and they do well that was a good defensive stand right there two incompletions in a second back them up to the 40-yard line they'll have to punt the ball away that's the second time pratt's had a body weight come right down on top of him and four memphis tigers on top of him i think pickens and morris joseph will share that sack joseph the second four of the last five games coming in it's a keep hunt with memphis one time out left and 51 seconds remaining still in this first half of play ryan wright a third of his punts coming in 50 or more yards oh here's a weapon you know i need to notice they always say where are we going to angle to the sideline for me if you can take this ball and put it in the end zone put it in the end zone 245 pounds is right but he says he's had his best year because he's lighter he was actually 260 in march when the pandemic started he was angling it toward the sideline he did not mean to have such little distance wow this is great starting field position all the way out to the 30. got to be aggressive here right 45 seconds left you have a timeout and one of the best quarterbacks in the nation and brady white leading the charge here well this is all about this first down play if you can if you can find a way to get a first down and stop the clock david and all of a sudden you're at the 40. it gets you into that hurry up rhythm now an incompletion here or stop short of the first down the clock's still moving sort of disrupts the rhythm so for me it's always this first down play if you can get off to a good start here you get into rhythm because these kids work out ever all these schools work out they they practice it every single day the hurry up drill so from the 30 time here for white and the memphis offense quite alludes pressure it's incomplete austin was hit hard by cornelius dyson but the pass was over his head yeah he was trying to stop right past the marker right there and the ball was high so once it's high it's free to the receiver once it gets by the receiver and austin paid the price at the end of that late blitz white will throw and finds kylan watkins down at the 45 that is enough for the first so the clock is stopped momentarily riley patterson's illegal procedure here movement up front that will push memphis back five yards so this will place the ball of the 40. they can get to about the two lane 35 they'd be in riley patterson range as long as 56 this season yeah and i think this is a runoff but they have a timeout left right and they'll have to take the time out to keep for the runoff offense number 67 five-year penalty remains first down the spout however to avoid the 10-second runoff memphis takes the third and final charge good job keith right on it and so memphis does use their last timeout to save the 10 seconds still 23 seconds to go well it changes the dynamic here i i think you get vertical here give it one shot david or two and try to get something 25 30 40 yards down the field tulane probably will be back in some kind of prevent because it's going to be difficult to have enough time to move forward get the ball clocked in time to stop the clock so this is as a quarterback there's very few times in the game where you really force the issue but this is one for white that he's got to force it at at least 25 yards down the field brady white working on his doctorate and here working on a memphis comeback they were down 21-7 earlier this quarter pressure from the back side intercepted cornelius dyson the true freshman has his first interception of his two-lane career this is all about the rush white trying to step up i was thinking you know you might get picked down the field well this is in the flat this makes field position an opportunity here uh you get it but you can see the pressure as she tries to step up he's going down and just steps in front right there at the 46 yard line you know 10 yards here is a field goal opportunity dyson stepping in front of sean dykes memphis a star tied in who does not have a catch today let's see what will hall calls here of course his final game is tulane offensive coordinator he'll head to hattiesburg as head coach of southern miss after this game for the memphis 47 brought in trouble insect that should do it don't believe you can get anything lined up here we'll go to halftime what an interesting last minute of this first half taj washington scored on the jet suite to make it 21-14 with 118 to go in the second quarter plenty of action from that point but no more points as morris joseph gets the sack to end the half and a fun first half in new orleans two-lane looking to go to six and five and looking for their third straight winning season they haven't done that in 39 years memphis still looking for a conference title there's a fun first half in new orleans two lane a 21-14 lead over memphis green wave looking for their second win over the tigers in three years and tulane got the scoring started on the game's opening drive key they take it right down the field really nice great pass into the corner for watson we talked about that highlight and he comes up with the deal and all of a sudden green wave up seven nothing and here comes memphis right back with their big wide receiver austin on the pitch and catch from over 50. we've got a tie game it was 7-7 and still 1005 to go in the first quarter then tulane would take the lead as michael pratt was able to find jaquan jackson for 42 yards able to run the football and then get jackson on the play action into the end zone and boy tulane started to roll about this point of the ball game defense began to step up it was 14-7 for a while before pratt runs it in himself three yards out 21-7 until late in the second quarter when the tiger running game gets going leading to a taj washington jet sweep there's no question that it was a major part of that drive they used time off the clock interesting last minute of the ball of the first half both teams exchanging possessions in that last minute but you see the numbers right here dominated offensively in that first half by tulane memphis does get the ball in second half the big number for me is right next to the bottom one for six and one for seven both these defenses stepping up on third down 21-14 the two-lane lead as 17 seniors are honored today for senior day david salesman keith moreland in new orleans will hall's final game as tulane offensive coordinator named the head coach at southern miss on wednesday his head coach here at tulane willie fritz says the players did a great job with the news in fact he says he got his seniors to stand up along with will to recognize everyone about to play their final home game here in the regular season and memphis's head coach ryan silverfield has a relationship with will hall they were both assistants for the tigers in 2018. silverfield says will hall is really good at studying what other coaches are doing of right-minded well-respected throughout the country yeah you look at teddy's southern miss has got a good one and we've got a good one here in the first half second half just underway taj washington on the return and oh gets crunched down to the turf just past the 25 yard line dorian williams providing the hit what i don't know if he knew where williams is coming from all of a sudden you look up and wham folks when they say form tackle that's the picture it's in the dictionary williams a sophomore from fort mill south carolina two lanes leading tackler coming in and special teams one reason why well memphis has been much better on the scoreboard in the second half than the first plenty of comebacks in two lane they've led in every game this season the second half has been a bit of a troublesome spot for them as they have lost the number of leads this year five and five coming in memphis six and two with an outside chance at a berth in the american conference title game calvin austin the third on the first offensive play of the second half has his fifth catch of the game and now he's over 100 yards receiving for the sixth time in seven games you just look at it he's just so hard to defend he runs his route tree is so big he can do so many different things he doesn't mind traffic he's also got the vertical game that was enough for the first down you're the throw to javon ivory and you called for him in the first half keith the redshirt freshman his first catch of the game a such a tough matchup in the slot because of his his size and strength and you know two rpos to start the second half for memphis and last drive is the first time they've gotten any kind of rushing offense in the ball game was the drive that they came down and found points to make it 21-14 brady white eclipsed 10 000 passing yards in his memphis career in the first half he's at 157 today asa martin cutting it back and able to get close to four they just had a real tough time with the stretch play that's where the offensive lineman stretched to one side and they just get body on body and they just haven't been able to move anybody so they hadn't been able to get the stretch running game going at this point martin with 40 yards on the ground to lead the tigers but as a team memphis 43 rushing yards washington the catch about two yards shy of the first down marker well that's a staple in this offense for memphis is these two crossers both inside slots you can see them going in opposite direction puts real tough on the linebackers of which one they go to i would hate to think with almost 13 minutes to go in the third quarter that'd be a big play it's a big play for memphis to the ground martin stacked up and short i think that was williams coming in to make the stop williams and johnson to help him williams was up there to make the hit johnson cleaned it up and what do you do right here you haven't run the football very well yeah third and short right here and you can see both those guys right there to clean that up our last three touchdown drives combined in this game all included fourth down conversions and the tiger often still on the field handoff and martin no chance a huge loss back to the 43. this is just great initial movement is bouncing to the outside and well that's just an outstanding job of just bouncing out coming up with the by hicks and i tell you this this is a good play they they overloaded the right side and we're going to go back to the weak side well there was a slant sometimes defensive tackles have a slant he just got to the outside and hicks there was nowhere to go you're a little surprised by the play call i am i i thought play action to be honest with you uh you know passing game is where they go i could see them trying to to go in and get a linebacker on a safety on a tight end after the play action but ran it came up short michael pratt in the first half 15 of 23 passing for 186 and two touchdowns blitz coming and that pass dropped by fat watts well that this ball's right on time it's hit him in the numbers it's one of those when you try to move your feet take your eye off the ball and still concentration lapse right there makes it second and ten those 186 passing yards already above pratt's average for a game his career high 216. hutterson with room bowling his way past the memphis 40. this is great vision right here this is made this is supposed to be a sweep to the outside and watch his eyes he sees that plants his foot cuts it back against the grain with all the momentum going to the wide side of the field cuts it back to the short side in the first down curious how much tulane tries to establish the run in this half coming in 224 rushing yards a game but they were just at 43 on the ground in the first half of course pratt and his numbers one big reason why pratt scrambling and keeping it himself gets maybe a yard now that was the play action trying to go vertical they had some success with it in the first half and good coverage on the back end you can see pratt come right out of the play action looked to go down the field and had to tuck it down quickly you can see him right here up double move no it's not there found a way to get a couple out of nothing jj russell providing the pressure middle linebacker making his 35th career start today to the ground stefan hutterson and thomas pickens throws him back second third down to this drive they converted on the first one first down marker at the 26. pratt will keep it and gets past the 26 converting third down just the second third down conversion for tulane today this is a called play it's the quarterback isolation draw goes back like he's going to pass tailback lead blocker tucks it up in there i tell you what pratt's taking some blows today and he keeps bouncing up and ready to go it's been the starter since game four this season a first set of downs leaping grab made and after dropping a pass earlier this drive that's fat watts jumping up to get that football that's a really nice back shoulder throw and a stop to the outside watts sells it down the field it's a long throw from the far hash to this ash an excellent accurate throw right there for the first down what a response getting the fourth down stop and coming right back out here we talked about both these teams have been really good in the second half especially tulane putting points on the board that doesn't hasn't turned into wins but they put points on the board it's first and goal pratt will run couple of bodies in front of him across the goal line touchdown the second rushing touchdown of the day well that's a great response stop on fourth down and pratt himself does a lot of this with his legs on this drive third time they've won the quarterback draw on the drive he's a good runner and he finishes to get into the end zone number 80 the tight end tyrek james providing that last block and you don't think this game is big for these guys again they are looking for a winning season they have not had three straight winning seasons in 39 years and hoping for a bull berth at six and five they've never been to a bowl in three straight years merrick glover's fourth p-a-t an impressive drive by the true freshman michael pratt in the green wave offense touchdown drive early in the third for willie fritz's wave he signed a seven-year contract extension earlier this year at tulane he's been a head coach since 1993 you see active fbs head coaches with 200 or more wins willie fritz is fourth on the list now caveat most of those wins aren't on the fbs level but keith he's wanted every level he's been he started out as the head coach at blinn junior college back in 1993 then made central missouri a division two power helps sam houston state to back to back fcs title games and after a couple of years at georgia southern doing great things in new orleans yeah he's just an outstanding coach and he knows how to get it done he loves spending time talking with him and hey he does like his cookies and cream bluebell too from his time at blinn that in britain texas homo blue bell ice cream i'm thinking he gets some nice ice cream in new orleans as well he's fine there one of the greatest cities on the planet you know we asked him have you been able to make this two-lane program so respectable and he said we have a lot of great things to sell not just the academics at tulane but also the city he said specifically he says we want players that value the academics as well as the athletics but it takes a special player to go to tulane you know top 40 in the nation and academically and you have to get they recruit nationwide because they have to get uh the type of athlete student athlete that can withstand and understand the academics at tulane so now 2814 is the memphis deficit and as we've said multiple times already today this is a spot that they're unfortunately used to they've come back to win so many games couple of late wins over central florida and usf touchdowns in the final minute of both those contests here they are down two scores as we approach the midway point of the third quarter now there was some holding there and there's the flag austin was trying to come back to the sideline and jaylen monroe had a hand on his jersey that time in row that the first time the ball was under thrown and he was he got the pi in the end zone that's interference defense number nine the ball be placed at the spot of the foul automatic first down this time he just has contact he's trying to work through the receiver as a hold on that one that one a little is one that he knew he did the first one he's trying to figure out why he got called on the ball being under throw under thrown allows the receiver to come back to it white pressure noah sidon chasing him and he'll loft it out of bounds yeah back to calvin austin his numbers are good today five catches 110 yards and a score but he's been targeted 12 times yeah and you look at white you you talked about he he's been a very accurate passer and and julene talked to us this week and said you know the way we've got to get him is get him off rhythm put some pressure on him and they've made him feel uncomfortable that's why his numbers are down at this point but austin he takes advantage of what targets he gets brady white is 12 of 23 passing for 161. lofting the bubble kyle and watkins and tulane is there they played it well adonis freely who had a sack in the first half comes up with the tackle but tulane was in a blitz and usually a screen is a great call against the blitz but watch him come back right here you don't see that coming that's a big time blow another blitz white this time finds his man that's enough for the first washington's had himself a solid game he's got one of the touchdowns on the ground on the jet sweep this is a good route a really good adjustment ball was behind him a little bit reaching up good hands catch right there with the cash for washington today in addition to that jet sweep touchdown to the sideline beautifully done the back shoulder to washington well you got to work a lot on this route washington goes down and as a passenger you got to know exactly where he's going to turn back to that back shoulder there was not a lot of separation right there but a completion and a first down 26 wins as memphis quarterback 84 touchdown passes both memphis school records austin oh a little trickeration back to white monroe's chasing him and white able to fall forward to get an extra yard philly special here everybody's got it in their playbook singing more and more further away from the goal line though staying at home right here it's just good discipline as a defense you you got to have good team discipline defensively to maintain your part especially when you're playing zone marquis weaver who's been memphis's best tailback the last couple of games coming in looks like he was down just shy of the marker you know and weaver seems to get these carries in the second half this has not been a good down for memphis today third and short evan johns does call weaver his best third down back and he'll get the call on third and one staying on his feet nice run still going past the 10. first and goal coming right contact in the backfield broke that tackle you can see weaver then he broke three more tackles on his way to getting down right here there's contact he looked like he might be short bounces to the outside and then he breaks three different tackles on the way to a first and goal had 15 carries in the win at navy last week eight carries 94 yards in the second half of the win over stephen f austin two weeks ago from the six dikes touchdown the tight end sean dykes turns his first catch of the game into six points we talked about he is such an important part of this offense and tulane shutting down in that first half but just to overload this is where you're over it's called overload you get everybody out in the flat and it's just not enough to defenders to cover all the receivers that are running out there and he just outruns the defense to the pylon could answer by memphis tulane has made memphis earn it on their scoring drive they've had to go 75 yards 67 yards and that touchdown drive capped up by dykes nine play 70 yards and we have a seven point game it's a series that goes back to 1954 but they've been conference rivals memphis and tulane for a while now going back to their conference usa days memphis has won 14 of the last 16 but one of those losses to tulane here two years ago 40 to 24 and brittany white said the loss here two years ago was a learning experience he and his team realized the implications of this game today still an outside chance at a conference title and he knew the challenge they were up against well and the the other part of that the last two lines of that graphic were really cool in the sense that memphis has been a really good offensive team over the last decade tulane where they had their major struggles has been scored points 16.9 you can see in that series well already 28 on the board today michael pratt four total touchdowns a career high two rushing touchdowns also a career high of course this is first season with the green wave from boca raton florida his leading receiver so far today fat watts 55 yards receiving a career high for him pratt hit as he throws and going deep looking for javon jackson and it's knocked away incomplete pratt could feel the pressure coming he can see it and feel it he's trying to move around this ball floats he's open oliver knocks his ball away but right here at the end watch he feels that pressure he really can't get everything into that throw and it floats a little bit he had a receiver open right there rodney owens provided the pressure junior from nashville tennessee changing the play right here five on the play clock up the middle catch made that's deuce watts that's his brother who had a touchdown grab on the game's opening drive well they they read it a really nice job of reading that they knew they had man coverage memphis was coming with the blitz what do you do man coverage back to the inside any kind of drag any kind of cross really difficult because of the leverage the receiver has on the defender pitching catch gets the first down i haven't mentioned this in a while but two lenders three freshmen on the offensive line today including caleb thomas the redshirt freshman out left guard two true freshman on the right side of the line cameron carroll's first carry of the second half is a good one came in with 10 brushing touchdowns and averaging almost six yards of carry oh i felt like the team that could run the ball would win this game but neither team has really had great success running the football to this point a 15-yard carry puts tulane at 101 rushing yards memphis with 56. how do you put a game away when you have the league run the football take time off that clock tulane averaging 224 a game on the ground they'll look for some ground yards here jacoby francis would not let pratt get around him brad showed you his strength though that to use this stiff arm and with guys not giving up much yard is able to gain one good competition right there i like the pad on the helmet from pratt to francis afterwards good mono himano third and short green waver two of eight on thirds today and they need two amari jones wants to throw down field intercepted first turnover of the game this is quindell johnson the reigning american conference defensive player of the week comes away with a pick his second of the season well you install plays throughout the week thinking hey it's what time am i going to use this play and they go to a quick pitch it's a lateral right out of the backfield and you don't have your normal guy you know he may be able to throw it but he's not a normal quarterback and he throws this definitely into coverage ball floats on him a little bit first turnover of the ball game and just like that memphis has an opportunity to go down and tie this ball game up wendell johnson the hometown product from here in new orleans brady white has a chance to tie things up late in the third after the quindal johnson interception every memphis player has a picture of his family on the back of his locker and here are the pictures of the families of quendel johnson and brady white quindel's twin brother kendall plays special teams for memphis and see brady white on the left his dad darren got to hold the dog also in the picture his brother brother who played football at princeton but every saturday ryan silverfield has one player talk about the picture of his family and what that family means to them similar to what the memphis family means to them especially on the field on saturdays there's no question it is all about family a little trick play here to begin the drive after tulane try their own this time the catch is made brady white with the throw and enough for the first down i like trickery and do different things but i like you get it back into your quarterback to throw the football the difference in the last play for tulane is you know you've got a guy that doesn't throw the ball but maybe once or twice a year this time when they get it back a little trickery and brady white knows where he can go with the football and handle it gets the pitch and catch first down asa martin had a leap for that grab his third catch of the game and now martin on the ground no gain well david you have said that a lot in this ball game when both these teams have tried to run the football it's just been difficult sledding trying to run it by either club some more pressure on the shoulders of the fifth year senior can certainly handle it mention he's on his way to getting his doctorate third year as memphis quarterback and going deep looking for austin and just through his hands that's a tough grab to make well he what a route he runs right here he's out of the slot it's a little angling up and this ball is thrown perfectly austin will tell you he couldn't find it he throws it out there that's right there he was looking back to the inside and uh if he just looks up for the football instead of back to the inside i think that's one that austin will tell you i gotta catch now third and ten has not been a good down and distance for memphis today blitz white in trouble sacked macon clark the senior from saint rose louisiana well decide blitz you get a game up front where you have some guys spinning and moving and then he comes from the outside it just takes the offensive tackle back to the inside when he sees the spin and you come in right behind him and a well-designed blitz package right there leads to the third sack of the bog excuse me second sack of the ball game for tulane third of the year for clark the nickelback adam williams dependent away takes the bounce and just into the end zone for the touch back just it's sideways just i mean this is close again there's a flag on the play see what this flag is you see the flag was all the way into the end zone it's picked up no foul on the plate tulane will take it over on their own 20-yard line you can see this ball this is as close as it can get is it going to stop oh no flag it's not a kickoff but it is a punt which just means a touch back 47 seconds to go in the third two lane led 21-14 at the break michael pratt 10-yard touchdown run gave the green wave a two score edge and then memphis came right back with a brady white touchdown pass to sean dykes michael pratt career-high passing today 218 yards checks down to stefan hutterson short yardage on first down that's the other thing he he has done a good job of seeing the vertical game today and being successful by getting down the field but he's also learning when that's not there go ahead and check it down and find something and get something positive now you're ahead of the change at second and five utterson ninth grade wave player to catch a pass today the watts brothers deuce and fat combining for seven catchers for 101 and a touchdown good running room for hudderson containing from petal mississippi leading the green wave and rushing today now just over 50 yards took a lick as well that's going to take us to the fourth well it's been a good one championship implications on the line although memphis needs help they must win to keep their title game hopes alive in tulane looking for their third straight winning season for the first time in almost 40 years familiar territory for these teams two lanes seventh time in their 11 games they have led going into the fourth but they've lost a couple of those late leads and this is where memphis is at their best in the fourth quarter win behind and here michael pratt in tulane 28-21 up on memphis as we head to the fourth david saltzman keith moreland with you from yulman stadium in new orleans now they get a first down nice job moving it out 35 yard line couldn't ask for anything more you know you're going to have to put points on the board to come away with a victory here so the offense will be wide open it's been a beautiful day for football temperatures not expected to reach 60 degrees today late blitz pratt hit as he throws and the catch made but all the way back let's see what they'll mark this at the 42-yard line javon jackson with the grab well he had the yardage to gain but he came back to the football and then he was free and tried to make a football move so they spotting short give him the gain of seven instead of a first down pratt 19 of 29 passing for 2 30 and two scores amari jones the handoff and this will give tulane the first down a gain of four jones jr from frisco texas three-headed monster if you will from the backfield for two lane all averaging about six yards of carry coming in jones stefan hutterson and cameron carroll pratt crunch down from behind morris joseph catches up to him that's a tough young man he has taken some hits today we've talked about it and he just gets up keeps on ticking pratt two rushing touchdowns this season first time he's done that that's two-lane quarterback greenway five and five but four and two in their last six games coming in tyree james the catch in space in front of him knocked out of bounds just shy of the memphis 35. it's really nice job this offensive line is a little bit of a delayed blitz by memphis and it gives him enough time to on the delay to find the tight end on a drag coming across the middle of the field that's a well designed play but that was all started by that offensive line plenty of time here he'll check down and the catch made cyril brown the sophomore from arlington texas just his fourth catch of the year right now david he's got all day to survey he was looking vertical he's checking down going through his progressions and he's got plenty of time to do it that's now 10 tulane players who have caught a pass today from inside the memphis 30. carol sophomore from flowood mississippi brought down maybe a yard shy of the marker i know it will be enough for her first willy fritz told us although you don't need six wins to be bowl eligible this season you thought we need to win to have a chance green wave hoping for their third straight bowl game but they need to win here fresh set of downs from the 26. no one to throw two yet prop buying time out of bounds well they were trying to again trying to fake the bubble screen to the outside get something vertical and good defense on the back end by memphis and i kept thinking throw this ball away throw this ball away and it took him a while to get outside the pocket he was trying to make something happen and then he finally did toss it away live to play another down you saw for a moment one of the best names in the american where dallas ducksworth was the one pressuring pratt wearing number 97. fake to carol brad all the way back able to elude pressure at the 40. inside and oh takes a lick and lost the ball a flag down however probably because of the hit on pratt cole mashburn's gonna be called for this penalty ty goes to the offensive player that's michael pratt's football i'd like to see that hit again it was obviously a hard hit but was it enough to deserve the flag front did take a look here he comes back to the inside and both players are going down i i i don't think that there was a uh a helmet to helmet throwing on the field is that the runner was down prior to the ball coming loose after the play dead ball personal foul targeting defense number 46. the 10-yard penalty automatic first down at play another further review these are all such hard calls because when it's happening so quick and you've seen instead of keith both pratt and mashburn are literally their heads are just barely above the turf when this contact occurs you know yes his left knee is going to the ground but this is all in the same motion that he's coming out when he goes to make the tackle he's not sure that pratt's going to be down the contact was on the ground i think this is going to get overturned that's my initial thought is that i didn't see what i would consider to be a targeting play now and it's not people outside my pay grade make those decisions but i just didn't i didn't see targeting on the play uh and if it was late if they're saying it's late targeting uh pratt was had been hit and was falling to the ground maybe his knee hit to the ground before the contact but the defender's defense player is in the air right here when he's down he's already in the air so there's no way to stop his body from going forward i don't think it was decision either way didn't know he was down that knee came down instantaneously to contact it's obvious he's leading with the helmet but but i i agree with you i i think this should be overturned as well if it's not that's a big loss for this defense cole mashburn has been one of the best defenders for memphis the past month 22 tackles his last four games coming in at a career-high nine tackles and memphis first ever win at navy last week mashburn today six solo tackles and there was no contact hit helmet to helmet on this play there is no contact on that so he's avoiding the helmet to helmet contact i i just it's a difficult call this is taking a long time and i think it's because of that particular play there is no contact to the helmet our referee charles lamartina will tell us after further review throwing a tardy has been confirmed confirmed penalties half the distance to the goal automatically first down number 46 will be disqualified from the remainder of the game he misses the first half of the houston game next week as well again it's outside my pay grade but i i i did not see what i would consider initiation of the definition of targeting for me been going on for a while now you're trying to protect quarterbacks and defenseless players and and we're both for that i guess my question would be and ryan silverfield probably asking the same thing what was called mashburn supposed to do that again when the player is falling down because he is there's contact two yards behind it um for me he and he was already had you know i hate to use the word launch but he was already in the process of going down trying to make the tackle and uh because of that that's why there was the contact wow so now first and goal it's about the 50th time we've seen michael pratt smile today he has been having fun hoping to put his team up two scores cameron carroll past the five touchdown what a strong run is 11th rushing touchdown of the year well that's just the way you finish that's what you call a finisher that's why he's so good at coming up with those touchdowns he founds that soft spot in about the five yard line you could see him make that decision he was not going to be stopped found a way to cross the plane right here he contacted he makes that decision right there i can get in and boy just launches his body in there crosses the plane 30th rushing touchdown for tulane this year merrick lover a perfect five of five on pats green wave have their two score lead back 35-21 michael pratt sitting alongside for the final time as offensive coordinator will hall is on his way to hattiesburg new head coach of southern miss a career day for pratt the true freshman 254 yards through the air and four total touchdowns well he's just done an outstanding job and a couple of things that have come off the page after seeing him earlier in the year you talked about it he's having fun smiling all over the place he's got into the vertical passing game and then he's shown his toughness today david he's just he's been tough he's taken a lot of different blows and he's done a nice job and he's got up and kept on ticking you played college football college baseball as well and obviously a great major league baseball career how hard is it for whether it's a true freshman on the college level or a rookie on the professional level to to gain your respect especially when he's at such a leadership position the first thing the first and foremost thing you're going to think is crazy is you got to have confidence because if you go into any scenario and you're thinking i don't know if i can do this get you in trouble so obviously he's shown confidence and the second thing is you you've got to be willing to work at your craft and understand oh that was a mistake how do i get better and i'm seeing that watching his growth over the last especially month of this season for the couple of games i've done with memphis this year and i think you'd agree when you hear brady white during his media availability you want to talk about confidence it's obvious he has a swagger about him he's not any less confident although he just has 11 25 left for his team to try to come back oh that's almost intercepted bounced off the back of dorian williams he almost came back to get the football uh pressure that time and they talked about we got to get after him and they here in the second half they've gotten after white you can just see uncomfortable having to step up and force this football yeah very fortunate that ball wasn't picked off i think that was patrick johnson on the pressure all-time sax leader in two-lane history with 24 and a half johnson not on the field on this play but white pressured again he's able to find austin then the balls jar loose it's gonna be returned by jalen monroe but what's the call on the field austin is also still down on the turf as he took that hard lick on the field incomplete and let's hope calvin austin a third is okay did he take a lick on this play correction you can see as he bounces out feels the pressure white trying to get away just gets it off doesn't see it coming he i never i don't think he ever put the football away and then there was a huge collision between the line an official and a memphis tiger on the other end up that official is okay as the other officials come over to check on him so a couple of guys with blind side hits on that play he's only 162 pounds that's what he's listed as five foot nine calvin austin a third who has worked himself into being one of the best receivers in the conference over 100 yards receiving today for the sixth time in seven games and brady white will not have a star receiver on the field for third and ten this is a crucial time that they have not had success with this down in distance throughout the ball game they're going to have to have some time to throw it chilean has been heating him up they're showing review right here on on the replay tilling fans thought that was a catch and a fumble instead incomplete pass third and ten and converted and taj washington stays in bounds what a grab by the redshirt freshman to keep the drive alive uh how about his ability to go up he high points his ball with his body and keeps the defender away from it where the defender's hands can't pull it out and then has the presence of mind when he comes in oh i'm still in play ball right at the 50 after the grab 28 yards on the catch white changes the play at the line this grab made it'll be second down in short approaching 10 minutes to go second down to the long three blitz that's behind washington and the flag down washington got held willie langan will be called for this penalty he got mugged i'm not sure that held is the right the right word it's just all over him right here it was going to tackling before the football got there it draws the pi i like to be pc during my call but i'll give that to you that was a muggy for the two-lane 35 memphis multiple fourth quarter comebacks came back from 13 down the final four minutes twice this season against ucf and usf brady white will throw this out of bounds but again another double-digit deficit for these tigers and we're just under 10 minutes to go i gotta tell you this to lane offense i mean defensive front is just relentless they just keep creating pressure and right now white has not been able to stay in the pocket in this entire drive he's had to be on the move and mit avoid the traffic to get rid of the football not a lot of fans here 2400 but these two lane fans are still upset at the incomplete call on the calvin austin hit white gets about three i'll give him a nice mark four yards on the scramble well at this location on the field this is four down territory so i like what white did why throw it away if i can get three or four and help us if we can't make it on third we're gonna go on fourth so he did a nice job right there just buying the time but again running for his life certainly four down territory here you think approaching nine minutes to go and memphis down two scores two touchdowns rather the joker the stand-up defensive end johnson watch for him here austin's on the field white has to scramble that should be enough they'll mark him down where the slide started right at the 25. that's exactly where he needed and they'll move the chains but they took away but again the pressure comes to him and see what he's caught from behind i think he probably lost a yard because he was caught from behind he wasn't trying to slide a good point and i agree now that as we look at that on replay dorian williams did tackle him from behind still enough for the first however from the 25. tipped austin couldn't haul it in had a couple of chances at it that's the second drop of the half uh it's like he didn't see the ball the ball got in on him quicker than he thought it was at the end right here you can see the ball starting to come in and it just gets on him a little quicker than he thought and gets off his shoulder pad he didn't get his hands up and then he never could secure it on the way down chase kershan was there to push him back by the way keith brady white has 16 incomplete passes today 12 of them are on calvin austin targets blitz oh washington saw the defender in front of him how was langham coming right at him third and ten well you know you're going to take a pop when you come back across the middle this ball is coming you're right it's a little bit of short arm right there because he knew he was fixing to get hit i think this is third ten here yes third and ten coming our crew stops play with eight twenty eight left in the free display is under further review for targeting you know washington was calling for that after the hit this will at least allow us to take another look it is getting chippy in the stands at yulman stadium our referee charles lamertino will look at this well it comes to the inside oh lord that's closer to what i would consider targeting than the targeting we've had in the ball game well we at least can see why this review is occurring obviously well after the ball was out of washington's hands but it certainly looked like langham led with the helmet and you just just brought up the point cole mashburn the hit on michael pratt earlier this quarter was confirmed at targeting what about that that's more helmet to head contact with the and they talk about the crown of the helmet being lowered he definitely lowered the crown of his helmet his contact on the face mask it will be interesting i it was not called on the field so that's the that's that's where you start i think uh so first of all you would have to have something that would definitely confirm and overturn that call my question is this if cole mashburn's targeting was confirmed because that was the call on the field to confirm the targeting i know i would think langham is going to be called for targeting as well well i'm over one so so am i willie langham jr from bessemer florida a couple of interceptions this season there's such a big fourth quarter for both these squads memphis looking to go seven and two keep their conference title game hopes alive tulane looking for a winning season there is targeting on the play by the defense number eight the penalty is half the distance to the goal and an automatic first down number eight will be disqualified from the remainder of the game i don't know how i'd feel if cole mashburn wasn't ejected for targeting himself i would concur with your statement there i i i don't ever think that there's such thing as a makeup call and i don't think it's a makeup call but the what they have determined is that uh anytime you use that crown of that head they're gonna use it and it's called and boy that not only does it carry the penalty it carries an automatic first down down inside the red zone ball just shy of the 12. asa martin williams is going to stand him up and throw him back forward progress gives him a couple but it's been tough sledding david run into football they've tried out on the edge the only place they've had some success is from jet swedes but they've had very little yardage between the tackles 62 yards rushing for memphis today had 75 in their 10-7 win at navy one week ago another handoff this time a loss two-lane coming in as a team 86 tackles for loss one of the nation's leaders making clark one of the men in green there well one of the things that you know when you play tulane they're the aggressor defensively they're going to attack they're in attack mode they play across the line of scrimmage as you can see right there you know they're not we're gonna play at the line of scrimmage we're gonna play on your side of the line of scrimmage third and nine white buying time to the end zone ivory the closest target now fourth and nine and ryan silverfield with the decision to make i think you've got to go 706 you're down not only two possessions you're down 14 points i think you got to go here that was really good coverage on the back end by tulane they were trying a combination route at the top and try to influence the safety to go with the inside slot he didn't move white had nowhere to go with the football mt said for brady white i would find out where number four is he's to the right of brady white at the top of your screen as the snap is taken white in trouble sacked cameron sample his fifth sack of the season and memphis turns the ball over on downs i'll tell you what they just have gotten after the quarterback in this ball game white needing a little time to make that happen as he gets back in the pocket can't get rid of it 35-21 two lanes offense 383 yards final game as offensive coordinator for will hall who's off to southern mess as head coach and willie fritz a great tweet about him earlier this week says he's thrilled for will for this opportunity wishing him and his family the best as he returns to his home state of mississippi he's from amory mississippi and willie fritz says will hall knows every third person in the state of mississippi it's a perfect job for him mutual respect between those two men uh no question about that and then you look at you're seeing when you're you're right your coaching tree expand but really french we talked about his numbers 221 career wins and then you know you you want those guys that have worked for you have that opportunity if you aspire to that to have that opportunity and congratulations to coach hall you've said it southern miss they've been on hard times recently that's a really good job and it just feels like a perfect fit when someone goes back home and you know whether you're in your louisiana mississippi keeping homegrown talent is really important i'll tell you what it is a marvelous place to do a game or to watch a college football game because if when they're playing well that that place gets to hopping uh it is an event in hattiesburg and whale holes often seal the deal here stefan hutterson it's a two-lane rushing attack 224 yards a game on the ground coming in they're approaching 150 today because we also approach six minutes left well it really in the second half their ability to to get ahead of the chains david where you know even though you're only getting three or four yards in the running game you're second and six second and five uh where memphis is just has had nothing in the running game so they ended up third and ten and third and eleven most of the ball game it's been 31 years since tulane beat memphis at home two straight times beat them 40 to 24 in 2018 will hall okay to use up some clock now second down five and a half to go well memphis with all three of their time out to i think if they get a third down stop here uh you know or second down to force the third down you might see them start to use the timeout being the two possessions down green wave over 30 points for the eighth time this season as we've talked about all day just finishing games has been let's hamper them from being better than five and five looking good here to get win number six cameron carroll the carry i think i would use my first time out right here and memphis does michael pratt the true freshman from boca raton florida one big reason for two lanes improvement this year senior day at tulane and if the green wave can hold on it will be the 25th win for this four-year senior class most by any group at tulane in 20 years gotta go back to just past the tommy bowden days of course big reason why it's been 20 years is that tulane went 12-0 under tommy bowden with sean king at quarterback back in 1998 but they really haven't had sustained sustained success since then until now we got a false start here offense number 23 bob your penalty remains third down tolls gets the penalty this might change your coach hall's play call right here probably with thinking about maybe a bubble screen something safe that you you know you can do you might see him run the football right here and just say all right memphis take a timeout and we'll punt it away and our defense has been playing so well memphis held to 21 points today averaging 33 a game coming in first down marker at the 41. pratt oh dropped and so the clock will stop sorel brown couldn't corral it uh just not not to drive the chilean morning i think they're in pretty good shape right here but they would have loved to have taken at least three to five minutes i mean not even get points but let's say two to four minutes at least off of this clock because because all of a sudden now uh you will see memphis in a in a total hurry up for the rest of the ball game probably coming after this punt fifth punt for ryan wright gets it away and kelvin austin the third met immediately that was tolls 4 40 remaining memphis looking for another fourth quarter comeback tiger left takalabina as a an incredible journey to memphis he has not seen his blood family keith in person in six years he moved to nashville from nigeria was brought in by a foster family came to the us for his education to play basketball he got multiple high major scholarship offers and hoops but he fell in love with football and despite not playing on the varsity level in high school until his senior year he got scholarship offers from almost every sec school but he chose memphis one big reason his relationship with ryan silverfield who recruited nashville it was the tigers offensive line coach at the time silverfield says they're so close that when he gets on as they in practice it's like yelling at his own side it's just an unbelievable story you can hear you can hear coach talk about him and see you feel what that relationship's like and he's still he's still learning so much start with the fact that he's got a 6-8 6-8 310 pound frame he can play on sundays in a couple of years he's already or also rather been one of the tigers leaders in raising awareness about social injustice he spoke at memphis unity walk in september oh white was hammered and that ball trickles out of bounds believe it was rule to fumble but something we've seen less and less of as this game has gone on keith is proper protection for the memphis quarterback you just look at what's taking place from memphis uh david for the over the last month the running game has gone down their their production at the spot of the fumble it is third down well if that's the fact it's got to be moved back a couple years because he was he was back in the uh in the pocket so that's at least six yards from five yards behind the line of scrimmage out here now they're bringing it back that's what i if they're going to call into fumble it would have to be back somewhere around the 15 yard line you can see him back here he's stepping up yeah it would be 15 16 yard line where the ball came out of his hands all of a sudden it's third and long go back to what we were talking about though this offensive line for memphis you just look at it it's where they've had some struggles let's just put it that way they haven't performed at the level that they anticipated them doing and now their flag comes in here pass intercepted larry brooks the safety his third pick of the year and likely the interception will stand brady white just has no time it's just well i just think the struggles offensively have been because of the fact is and i'm going to give some credit to this tulane defensive front too because they have created pressure all game but there's no question about that and they've heated him up but ball was picked off on a tip drill on the back end brooks got a piece of it cameron sample provided the pressure on the last two plays for tulane brady white is a great quarterback but you can only do so much on your own and he just hasn't had that support from his running game the past month memphis running backs today 21 carry 61 yards and obviously that drive is not a running situation down by two scores but they haven't really established the run the past month except for the second half against stephen f austin from the fcs when they pulled away and you can't get any rpos going you can't get play action going when you can't establish the running game this ball is fumbled job by pratt to get right back on top of it quickly the exchange problem right there calls their second charge time out of the half this is a 30-second timeout clock stop with 402. 35-21 the two-lane lead you see brady white and just over 50 completion percentage and that percentage has gone down the last month as well as the running game continues to struggle and michael pratt's been solid four total touchdowns two through the year two on the ground yeah i mean career high yardage 250 ford is a career high for the true freshman there's a bright future in the french quarter has the most touchdown passes of any true freshman in the fbs and he's just improved as the season's gone along his first three starts he completed 44 of his throws last five coming in 61 and at 21 of 32 solid completion percentage today on the jet sweep jaquan jackson cutting it outside and down the sideline and wisely goes down in bounds clock will stop momentarily as the chains are moved though oh that's a nice job jackson could have probably stepped out of bounds or tried to cut it back inside just hey i've got the first down let that clock keep moving and just a nice job of breaking at the outside good vision that time just set down that's outstanding that's great coaching right there awareness prank can get it down to just under 3 15 before this next snap green wave up to 411 yards of offense and they've held memphis to an even 300. same play as before but this time it's fat watts there's a career high in receiving yards today gets a yard and memphis uses its last timeout calls their third and final charge time out of the half this is a 30-second timeout we've seen smiles dozens of times for michael pratt and there's one from the head coach willie fritz he's been so happy with how his team has responded this season with of course coveted 19 their 11th game says i'm the mask tsar he's made sure their players have worn masks when they've had to so new year's day college football playoff couple of great games the granddaddy of them all the rose bowl begins at five o'clock eastern four o'clock in new orleans and memphis and then the all-state sugar bowl at 8 45 eastern time well we all look at those dates and go we hope we get to the college football playoff and everybody stay safe and take care of themselves it should be noted we've had over 80 percent of scheduled games play i'm with you when when you make that comment you go all the way back to september and you think to yourself are we going to get to december and yet here we are what these teams have had to go through three tests a week zoom meetings i mean just the most unusual season of course and and yet here we are again game 11 for tulane and game nine for memphis 18 19 and 20 year old student athletes these kids are have having to do virtual school some are in school get their and stay away i mean when you're 18 19 20 years old we all went to college yeah there's there's not a lot of fun times going on right now really admire what these athletes student athletes have done willie fritz says he told his kids this is the season of no fun yes other than the games but they've all bought in on third and one snake by pratt i'm not sure if he has enough it's going to be mark just shy of the 30. clock can tick to under two minutes bowl game or not willie fritz will have a decision to make is who to hire his offensive coordinator to replace will hall you're going to take this down to one second and call timeout you see him go right over to the official and he you know whatever decision he makes whether to punt it away here uh or go for it on fourth down he's going to take it down as inside two minutes willie fritz told us he'll next week begin his search intently on a new offensive coordinator takes their first charge out of the half of course i really liked his comment it is here comes the player of the game though let's get let's get who do you think this might be i can tell you i think it's number seven i think he may wear number seven as well i thought he was outstanding it comes out touchdown early in the ball game with a perfectly thrown ball and then this was really well done after play action establishing a little bit of a running game and gets down and then also can do it with his leg this is the first of two rushing touchdowns in the ball game and second one right here he pays the price at the end of this he takes a big blow but gets into the end zone two landers not trailed in this game we had a 7-7 tie early michael pride in the offense has been solid saw the 254 passing yards for pratt and tulane at 420 overall there's been reported rumors that will hall's old college roommate former offensive coordinator at notre dame chip long may be the new offensive coordinator here but again willie fritz says that's something to be determined starting next week what a nice win you had a memphis team with hopes of making their fourth straight conference title game but willie fritz will hall and company get the job done in their final regular season game of the year he's going to make will hall's going to make his last call victory formation and that's always nice when when you you go to your quarterback and say let's get in victory formation and that's what it's pretty simple everybody knows where everybody's going to line up well for two lane's sake they'll be six and five at really talk about covet 19 and now how it's affecting bowl game sun bowl was canceled just a couple of days ago armed forces bull changed their conference tie-ins i hope there are enough balls to consider two lane no will hall gets the gatorade bath in his last game as offensive coordinator here i'm telling you it's it's fairly chilly right there that's cold i promise you but he's pretty happy about it right now one more knee and that'll do it memphis will go to six and three overall four and three in league play they host houston next week at the liberty bowl houston's game at smu cancelled dudekova 19 issues with a mustang program but this day belongs to will hall willie fritz in the two-lane green wave impressive today as they defeat memphis for the second time in three years i tell you they're just talking to coach fritz this week when he talked about we're going to get after the quarterback boy they did they harassed brady white the entire ballgame and how about that freshman quarterback offensive coordinator now head coach southern miss and that's always one of those things where a conversation about the future will hall's future in hattiesburg mississippi and willie fritz in this two-lane program as you said a moment ago keith a bright future with michael pratt at quarterback a number of players coming back and of course no player use loses a year of eligibility this year but there'll be a lot of familiar faces and names back for tulane in 2021 35-21 the two-lane win over memphis today for my broadcast partner keith moorland our entire l2 crew i'm david salzman saying so long from yulman stadium in new orleans all games in the espn family of networks can be seen live or archived on the espn app this has been a presentation of espn you
