we welcome you to foster Stadium here in Lexington Virginia and our Ingalls socon game of the week today a key game in the Southern Conference the Sanford Bulldogs taking on the cadets of VMI hi everybody and welcome in with Jared singleton Pete ganodi with you Jerrod among other things we know we're gonna see a shootout today the top two quarterbacks in the league statistically about to go at it well Ricci disky does a fantastic job of protecting the football and making sure he's putting the office in position to be successful you know Chris all the Duke who for Stanford does a fantastic job he's had an up and down season so far but a great opportunity for him today let's focus on a couple of other key players on the defensive side for the Bulldogs they've had some issues that year but linebacker John State and having a fabulous season he leads FCS and tackles coming into today former walk-on has 70 tackles so far this year he's gonna have his hands full against the great running back he's done a great job so far this year and he should have a big day today now a quarterback reshoot insky has been big for VMI another vital part of their offense running back alex ramsey having a great year leads the Southern Conference in rushing yards yeah Alex does a fantastic job very patient runner hard runner behind that big physical offensive line should be a good day for him as well Sanford has won all six games in this series with VMI feeling like they can get a win today in front of the home folks back to Lexington after this to kick it off on other Saturday and the SoCon we're excited for the matchup we've got today since VMI will receive the opening kick as the cadets have settled in on parents weekend family weekend here in Lexington we've got nice weather and let's give you our keys to the game Jared singleton yeah you know Sanford they have to win the mental the mental battle you know the game is you know seven percent mental for the most part they've had a tough you know lost last week against ferment so I'm sure they eager to come out today and try to get a big win and VMI they need to establish the run game further we know Reese has a great arm he does a great job protecting the football but I think having the strong run game creeks that balance that allows him to do what he does really well we told you Sanford has dominated this series winning all six matchups a year ago a 73 to 22 triumph down in Birmingham which they established a program record for toe yards of over 770 but this is a much different VMI team but the 6a no record including games primarily played here in the SoCon Sanford in his 12th year in the conference of course VMI was away from the league for many years but returned earlier this decade and a VMI team that's trying to get another win here in front of the home folks they've knocked off martyrs Hill at home but fell against Robert Morris and then two weeks ago against Wofford but we can't emphasize enough this is a very different VMI team than others in the SoCon have encountered in recent years as sanford gets ready to kick it away with mitchell Finneran about to do the honors and as we saw last week VMI is used to brick breaking streets as far as losing streaks so you know they had a big win last week against the sideral which we'll talk about that later on the game but this VMI team is focused they're dialed in should be a good one kick us away and we're underway here in Lexington Corey Bridey will take a knee a touch back and VMI will go on offense to start things out on a day that as we noticed last week in Charleston Jerrod started to feel like fall and we've got a beautiful October day here in Lexington the VMI offense this season right up there and a lot of the SoCon stats in part because of that guy you see jogging on out there Alex Ramsey and he is such a key as is number 14 Jacob Harris a wide receiver who's really complemented the top target javion Lora they've gotten great production out of others in their receiving game and Rohan Martin one of their better receivers is back in the lineup this week Bridey reaches up and good reaction right out of the gate by the Sanford Bulldogs and a nice stop Cottrell player and the guy we talked about in our open John statement yeah I mean this this Sanford defense was come out there come out flying and a great play call to kind of get you know all the emotions everything kind of dialed that dialed in good little screen play right there so you know good way for this VMI office kind of try to take control of the game as you see here with a nice handoff run play behind that big physical offensive line for the folks at home I'm telling you this offensive line week after week they're getting better and better building on that confer so that's that's gonna be where I'm looking today to see how that offensive line how that production looks today Alex Ramsey averages over five yards for carry picked up three there but a third down and seven for VMI they come in six in the SoCon at just under 40% in that category you didn't ski firing near side caught Brimmer John has it maximum is John knocked out of bounds on the near sideline gonna be mighty close to first down yardage as the tackle was made by Joshua Carter yeah as you see here on the replay nice jobs kind of scanning the field gets the ball to his receiver good three and out great job right there by the Sanford defense getting off the field getting the ball back to their offense but not a bad start of your VMI you're kind of just filling out you know seeing what the defense gives you what kind of you know defense work on defensive front you're gonna be looking at so not a bad first start for the VMI offense but now we're going to see what this Sanford offense can do Reid King getting it away on trail Washington for the Bulldogs looking to find some room and he does tripped up near the 45 in to VMI territory and finally knocked out of bounds not before he gets close to the 35 yard line nice return by Washington averaging a pretty hefty amount in that category this year nearly 23 yards and a good run back that time as he brings it back 20 yards after the 41-yard punt yeah great job out of special teams unit and the thing is Pete the special teams unit is so important because it gives a lot of momentum to this you know your office or your defense this time push your office in a great position great field position and that's what you want us to kind of start you need if you Sanford it was going to be a game-time decision to Chris Hatcher but Chris all a token the starting QB and he'll fire low but AJ Tony unable to pull it in good pressure applied that time by VMI they've been doing a good job getting after the quarterback so far this season second in the SOCOM with 13 sacks the Bulldogs offensively not only a really good quarterback enola Doulton but you saw the fella on the bottom Jay Stanton has done good work the freshman with the carry that time those stopped up but he's really come on big because of some injury issues in their backfield yeah their backfield you know they've had some injuries and they've had some question marks at quarterback but the key pete has been this offensive line this offensive line led by their Center and it's actually the entire left side offensive line has done a fantastic job kind of leading this offensive unit saw the VMI defense liam Cawthon getting the start in place of Brett Howell of Asus it the first half due to a targeting call last week really nice throw nice pop on the far sideline by AJ Smith the completion is made and there was a flag down as well but Chris shaoling the top target for Ola dokkan on the receiving end big hit great protection by the big guys a friend let's see with this penalty call this penalty is though feet three today Bruce Austin and that was will down field number for the offense five yards from the previous spot replay third down so they'll back up to just beyond the VMI 40 Montrell Washington and crew with his nice punt return setting things up nicely for Sanford to start this Drive as Washington drops back in to the offensive backfield he's standing to the right of Ola token Stanton also back there to block hole a token time off the pump fake now firing long for Tony but he overshoots them and a fourth down decision for Chris Hatcher the head coach of the Sanford Bulldog you know one thing about this defense right now Pete there are only rushing three guys so when you've rushed three guys and that gives you you know eight guys it's kind of drop into covers and kind of play zone defense and that's what VMI is doing and so you know the dokkan has time to kind of survey the field but he's trying to you know get him give his guys an opportunity to get open because to back the back side of VM eyes defense has done a great job so far on that first defensive possession Bradley of course a lot o native of Australia punter for Sanford and this high end over end not all that deep Rohan Martin the return man for VMI while he was far from the football it goes out of bounds John Staton and crew will be back on the field they forced a three and out when VMI had the ball first Sanford's defense trying to go up here in Lexington early on a sport Liske VMI back on offense first in ten just beyond their own 15 javion Lora reaching high and pulling that one in second down so VMI force three and out the first time Jared what are you expecting this time you know VMI is all offense they're very methodical in their approach you know they're they're very you know they're gonna take whatever the defense gives them you know whether that's short intermediate passes whether that's the run game and you know what you have a quarterback with a lot of experience such as race udesky you know you know what to put the offense in as far as to make sure they're productive so it they're going to stay very balanced today I would leave you dim ski again Laura and he's got a first down pushed out of bounds by cue trail player these teams both high-scoring this year when you have two of the top statistical quarterbacks in the conference you're certainly going to have a good offensive performance VMI look at the improvement they've done since they've gone to the air raid in 2017 they scored fewer than 10 points again Thomas the freshman receiver his coach says he's been the biggest surprise and VMI on the March but it really helps when you've got the maestro you dense key leading things because he's so efficient at what he does in that air game very efficient he understands this offense he's even at the point in his career where he's teaching a lot of the young guys their responsibilities within the offense so when you have that kind of leadership on and off the field you're bound to see those kind of jumps and productivity from an offensive standpoint they go to Ramsey again Sanford is last in the conference in rushing defense allowing nearly 300 yards a game and that's why we think Ramsey is going to be so important to the VMI cause that run sets up a third down and three free play free play Thomas promptly taken down to the turf but let's see what the penalty is all about if Joshua Carter was there or so Kahn officiating crew led by Bruce Austin today outsides defense in the neutral zone of the snap that Pennsylvania collide first down looked like it was stateand trying to set up for a blitz so the Keydets 1st and 10 out at the 40-yard line and what an improvement though going back to that graphic we showed you averaging under 10 points a game just two years ago but they went to the air raid they realized they had the quarterback to do and they've surrounded him with all kinds of guys who can make plays like big Jacob Harris had a huge game last week and he makes his first grab of the day in Sanford territory at the 31 you said it best Pete when you have the weapons around you and you have the coaches to kind of come in and help develop these a lot of this talent you're going to see that kind of production great job right here understanding seeing where the ball was and just going up and making the play big body guy you're gonna see a lot of that if the defense gives them those type of opportunities and when you can throw the football like that you can go right back to the power running game and that sets up a second down and short and going back to what you said Pete about Stanford being one of the team's struggling as far as against a run defensively the office of line that you best believe all week long they've heard that they know that and they're going to come off they're gonna try to create openings for their backfield you dim ski giving it to Ramsay he's gonna first down and then some into the Sandford red zone and the Keydets are knocking on the door on their second possession Pete that was a huge hole right in the middle of the offensive line I think you and I could have both ran through that right there people tie herring the safety making the stop and that tells you that he certainly did get to the second level great drive right here if UVM I got to put points on the board you got to finish just what a touchdown key dad's bottom of your screen you see they've got the three receivers but Ramsey breaking a tackle mm-hmm Alex Ramsey running with an abandonned he put in such work during the off season as head coach tells us and you've really seen the benefits of that for the junior from just down the road in Salem Virginia I mean he I mean you look at his rushing yards right there Pete I mean he physically is just able to just get the job done over the last three games that's not showing some fantastic numbers as you see now some of the defensive linemen for Sanford you know they're struggling you know having to put new guys and because this VMI offensive line they're gonna come off the ball and try to create openings because they know they have a great back in Ramsey tenth play the drive for VMI Ramsey smells the end zone gets mighty close he's got a first down it'll be first and goal for the cadets if I was a betting man Pete I would bet that he's get the ball right here again six feet to 25 tough guy to bring down they go quick and they go to Ramsey and he pushes his way in for his tenth rushing touchdown this season and Alex Ramsey and VMI get on the board first here in Lexington so VMI a year ago they felt like they were looking up with a scoreboard all afternoon long down in Birmingham and that's been the case during this series with a strike first against a team they know they're gonna have to score points against Clemens the rating soaked on special teams performer of the week with the extra point and you know what a touchdown at VMI means Pete it means push-up time for the Keydets and so that's what the coin on the field to do right now and knock out those push-ups fantastic drive great job back there on that track is where the push-ups will take place when we come back well our action continues plus we're going to show you why things have been so exciting around here throughout the week if we continue in Lexington VMI is enjoying its best season in a while augmented by last week's big win down in Charleston they snap a long losing streak in their series with the Citadel yappy and that brings a lot of momentum to the program that's what changing the culture here is all about and coach walk-ons done a fantastic job of doing that and with that big win last week that's why you see the momentum that's why you see the guys juiced up on the sidelines dancing having a good time that's what college football is all about kick us away off the foot of Clemens and on the return and moving ahead yeah Sarah el-amin and near their 25-yard line Sanford will go on offense so you saw them holding the trophy the silver Shaco it goes to the winner of the military classic of the south and a via my team that Scott walk behind that coach told us you know it was something that obviously they celebrated on the field in Charleston they enjoyed through the weekend at Monday when they played the music over the loudspeakers and practice he said I think every song had the word shake in it but then he goes after that we kind of put that behind and focus on matters at hand dump off into the flats Stanton and it'll bring up second down but that is a huge exclamation point and I think a big talking point for the VMI folks this week was few weeks back they got a great road win at ETSU came home and lost to a Robert Morris team they felt like they could have beaten well they certainly don't want to have the hangover impact this game this week is olla dokkan shows you his dual purpose ability especially where you going against a quarterback like Oh dokin who has the ability to beat you with his legs to kind of beat you with his arm you know they're going to try to establish themselves right here on this drive because Sanford does not want to get behind too much against a VMI team that's very comfortable and very balanced on offense Oh a token 266 yards rushing coming into the game area left side this time there might have been a facemask is Devon Walker like Stanton a true freshman taken down by Ethan Castleberry I thought I saw a flag thrown out it's not it's up near the face backs but nothing doing second down Sanford now trying to get things moving gyrus Kramer on the receiving end but bring up third down at about four Castleberry again on the stop and this VMI defense is doing a great job so far early in this game wrapping guys up getting them to the ground you know swarming to the football gang tackling guys and that's what you have to do when you're going against a great offense VMI seventh in the SoCon in total defense they allow over 445 yards a game a year ago Sanford with a school record 773 against him so no doubt that was talked about a lot as they got ready for this showdown against the Bulldogs third down and five Sanford on the season seventh in the conference of 39% play-action looking near side Washington in stride hit hard initially by Smith finally taken down but what a nice wheel play that was coming out of the backfield for Montrell Washington and what they did right there Pete they had the wide receiver kind of take away the corner and the safety and that allowed the wheel route as you see right here on the replay just kind of given time given time allowing the wheel route to get open because of the great job out a set of by the receiver of getting the cornerback and the safety kind of clear out of the area another completion olá token and they move on downfield robert adams who's been among their top four receivers this season and just like that now Sanford's knocking on the door of the red zone but the kind of game that we expect to kind of like basketball on grass here this you wrote about that Pete nothing dumped off and Adams knocked out of bounds at the 10 Sanford red zone offense 16 touchdowns and 24 trips this season and if your vm eyes defense we have to be careful Sanford likes to throw those quick screens quick out routes and what that does is kind of lulls you to sleep and so once you fall asleep because you're used to that great play great job single effort Washington making a couple of tackles on his way and he's got the rushing touchdown pretty good with your wide receiver can get in that way as second rushing TD this year yeah he did a fantastic job single effort but that right there that was the play right here we see just breaking tackles 1 2 3 4 I mean guys that you got to wrap up and that's they did a poor job of wrapping up on that particular that particular play but getting back to what I was saying peace and first offense they do a lot of these quick you know spot passes screens things like that and then they take you over the top with the big play so you have to be careful UVM eyes defense Mitchell Fenner and extra point is up and good VMI scored their first touchdown in just over three and a half minutes Sanford marches down the field in just over two and a half minutes just like that we've got a first quarter tie 7-7 is our score so con showdown here in Lexington Virginia Montrell Washington scoring from 10 yards out he was front and center on that scoring drive here yeah what you see right here on that 28 yard will route he did a fantastic job with here finishing off the drive you know poor tackling but just a lot of tenacity and just grit of getting it to the end zone great job by Washington we could be here a while this afternoon folks is back in fourth action is expected as we noted the two best quarterbacks in the league when you look at the stats and VMI team coming into the game scoring about 35 a contest and Sanford scoring nearly 40 per game and the Keydets will go back to at their own 25 so Cory Bridey and company will need to be as efficient as they have been offensively and for reshoot in ski and this VMI offense he just continues to be a model of efficiency he's seven out of seven so far passing for 57 yards and keep in mind member last week he established a new socon mark for most attempts without an interception he hasn't thrown one this year and he's closing in on 300 attempts on the season he's just a smart player smart player does the right things with the football doesn't put the ball in a place where he has a chance to get what has the chance to get intercepted great job by Reese with this offensive unit and that's because of his experience and his work that he's put in in the offseason and you saw that time the little jet sweep to Ramsey they're trying to find creative ways to get on the ball definitely because he's also a huge play maker and this offensive line they've helped they have a lot of confidence in those big fellas up front actually lost two yards so second down and 11 you dim ski and there's Harrison at six four that's what he does first down and more out close to the 45 and because of that big body that Harris has you can kind of throw that ball in places where a lot of guys can't get Harris has done a fantastic job office long great nice strong pocket great extension right there by Harris keeping the drive alive ty harrying the safety on the tackle Ramsey with a head of steam and Castleberry got him wrapped up and then herring came in to help out it's so important to sustain drives again so good when you're going to gets a good offense Pete you have to make sure that your offense stays on the field they milk the clock they're very methodical about what they do and if you're VMI you have to make sure you put touchdowns on the board second down and eight see checking the play right here understand what the defense is providing and he's going to try to exploit that you-jin ski crosses body Laura cut grass looking for a seam javion Laura inside the 35 and finally knocked out of bounds at the 17 yard line it was Joshua Carter who made the stop for Sanford maybe a touchdown saving stop but once again VMI knocking on the door great job by everyone on the office of unit offensive lineman providing him enough time to kind of roll out Reese does a great job of extending to play with his feet and then Laura making a play after he catches the football great job by this offensive unit VMI with for the top receivers in the conference we've got a timeout on the field this play is in the further review what what are we reviewing they may want to see if Laura stepped out prior to getting to the 17 yard line so we'll take a look with you and see situations like this Pete is where I don't like to review I mean VMI they have the momentum they have a great job as far as getting down the field I mean obviously this is a catch obviously that you know they have the first down you know I think right here this if I'm coach walking home I kind of I really don't care about those 1 or 2 yards that I may be missing I want to keep this momentum going because I know my office is really clicking right now on all cylinders given the guys credit in the booth they did a really quick review they made sure they got the information down in less than 30 seconds but the way these teams are playing right now Pete those this VMI could have scored in those 30 seconds you know that's right still 344 to go in our opening quarter of play each team was stopped the first time it had the ball but VMI trying to score once again on its third posession of the game and you see Ramsey and Ramsey not only so physical hard to bring down as it was Nathan East on the tackle but he at times he'll run sideways just as effectively as if he's running straight forward yeah and that's goes to show his patience when you see right here he's a patient runner hard runner peat these offensive linemen they're I'm ruling people they're creating openings up front I mean they're running right down the middle of this defensive defensive line the big guys up front are really doing a great job we can't get those guys enough credit VMI trying to go two for two on touchdowns in the red zone in this opening quarter of play first and goal Ramsey fifth in the nation in rushing and he's moving up there on the touchdown charge that's his second of the game he now has 11 on the season he's he's so tough in this part of the football field Pete because he's so physical he's a patient runner and he allows his offensive linemen to do their jobs so it makes his job a lot easier Alex Ramsey making them proud back in his hometown of Salem Virginia and a touchdown at VMI means push ups their single-season touchdown record here at VMI back in 1995 17 so slowly closing in on that and a Sanford player being attended to down on the field in the end zone by the athletic training personnel and for folks at home watching this game continue to watch the big guys the fryi know I've talked about a lot on this drive but they are really moving people out of the way and creating huge gaps for Ramsey to get the kind of yardage that he's getting continue to watch it throughout the game for this this offensive line they have a lot of confidence so far this season and as this game continues to progress watch that confidence continue to grow ty herring was the injured Sanford player he walks off as you saw so Clemons extra point try and he's a perfect 22 out of 22 this season VMI providing the answer as Keydets trying for their first win in this series is the ball clubs get together for a seventh time and again Ramsey just so tough in short yardage yeah I mean that's just it's almost impossible trying to get you know a big back like that keep him out of the end zone but right there the right tackle Johnson does a fantastic job the big body guy moving his moving his defender out of the way to create an opportunity for a touchdown so they scored in just over three and a half minutes the first time this time that drive in 2:38 coverage 75 yards in just seven plays and one of the differences you notice in VMI this season whereas last year they went to the air ray they started to spread it around but there's a lot of inconsistency there they're pretty consistent at least in the games we've seen him play this year in how they move down the field and rarely do they ever lose yards in a play in that Drive at a loss of the yard in the shovel pass to Ramsey early on but they're they're constantly moving downhill or so it seems that comes with experience that comes with repetition you know that comes with being able to have an offense to have reps to to review during the spring and all summer so you would expect that as they continue to practice and try to perfect this air a boy big time hitting on the run back and sir al-amin is stopped shy of the 20 yard line by Tim Smith via my defense back out on the field as we noted they're playing without brett Howell one of their top linebackers for this first half in fact he can't even be on the field because he got ejected for a targeting penalty last week so you have to sit out the next half on the first offense and then it incrementally grows from there to get called again for that penalty Chris Ola dokkan the battle some injury issues this year but a fine first season for the South Florida transfer filling some huge shoes at Sanford knee is able to connect on first down to Chris Shelley Carter Johnson on the stop they do go fast to these Sanford Bulldogs Washington listed as a wide receiver getting his share of carries today with a slide step and he's knocked out of bounds near midfield got to be careful could've been a flag on that on that you know initial knockout but Washington he is I'm gonna tell you he's very shifty isn't he's able to you know kind of make guys miss look come here come in oh the ankles on the ground I mean he does a fantastic job but that could have been a penalty on the way he was pushed out of balance right there Elliott Brewster finally hit him out it looked like he was holding his right hand al-amin knock down at the 46 second down and six and this time some hard running to his left is they're mixing it up Elliott Brewster coming up with the stop but Samford that time going to Torrance Pollard one of their wide receivers their best athletes are their wide outs they've got an injury to their top rusher coming into the year DeMarcus Ware he's out today yes he is nursing and ankle injuries so you can tell that Chris Hatcher and that offensive staff are trying to find whatever personnel they can use Stanton the freshman and on first down it gets close to the 35 we'll keep an eye on Montreux Washington and see if he's back in there soon because you could tell when he got hit hard out of bounds he was holding his wrist after that flight second down seven Ola dokkan another first down and again all the dokkan has the size to make an impact at 62 195 yeah I mean he obviously is an athletic guy but if your VM eyes defense you can't get caught you know kind of sucked into the run because all the dokkan can also beat you with this arm and they have the athletes that can take the top off of any defense quick throw al-amin and he's inside the 20 in this offense I tell you I mean they like you said P these Bulldogs get to the line quick they get set up you know they want to do and you know they're really hard to stop especially this part of the football field Stanton Brewster grabs him from behind but a good job by the freshman out of Crestview Florida to get another first down this is the kind of day where you feel for the scoreboard operator and the guys moving the changes but the thing is P if you're a fan it's the kind of game that you love because you know you have a lot of scoring a lot of offense which defense decides to step up today I think that team has a chance a great chance to win Ola token Washington back in there but he overshoots them and will have at least one more play in our first quarter so good to see that Montrell Washington there wasn't a significant injury with that risk that he was holding Ola dokkan entering the game had thrown for nearly 1300 yards and a 63% passer so he's right there with you dense key in terms of his efficiency so far this year second down ten time in the pocket firing to the end zone and Washington he's got one bike round and now a second by air and Sanford provides the answer yo Washington does a great job you know the kind of running his own defense for VMI he does a great job kind of getting in that soft spot of the zone and just sits right there all the dokkan does a great job of seeing that offensive line gets all the dokkan time to let the play develop touchdown Sanford Montrell Washington his third receiving touchdown they were on the short end of a lopsided game last week against Furman but Chris Hatcher says we're fine I'm just one of those games refer bits really good we've seen that but they've got pieces it looks like though they've really kind of self scouted and thought how many other guys we get in the mix and now Montrell washington who came into the game with three touchdown scores already has two well going back to what you said Pete Furman's one of the top 10 teams in the country we all know that but if you're Sanford like you said they have a lot of weapons on this team on the offense and defensive side of the ball and coach Hatcher was right I mean we they had to kind of take an assessment of where they are I understand they still have an opportunity to be a contender to share it's a part of this title so there's still a lot a lot to play for and they're playing a very good VMI team then as we've seen so far in the first quarter can put points on the board been a fun first quarter man and we still have six seconds left who knows what can happen and the scoring drives keep getting quicker that 1 in 2 minutes and 51 seconds 10 plays 82 yards for Sanford Finneran came into the ballgame with half of this kickoffs going for touch bags this is returnable for brighty Lobos was able to break it but he's tripped up and he stopped before he'd get a head of steam going like racing edgemon on the stop for Sanford that time so VMI one second to go here in the opening quarter you know good thing it's the second week in October not a second week in September because the way these two teams are you know playing right now P that cool 60-degree weather really makes it a lot easier especially for the big boys up front yeah last time we were here when VMI played Mars Hill in early September it was a scorcher of a day as summer really lasted throughout September here in the southeast Ramsey the counter stepped and nothing doing running into a wall like Jalil Luke wins was there for Sanford to make the stop and that's our final play of the opening quarter a couple of teams that are 2 and one in the SOCOM the winner stays very much in the hunt for a conference title and threw 114 all Sanford and vo ma [Music] start of our second quarter on our Ingles SoCon game of the week here in Lexington Virginia he's been leaping all day Alex Ramsey a burst of speed on first down with jarred singleton P ganodi with you in that opening quarter of play a combined 325 yards of offense and thus we've got a shoot out of Ramsey standing the lefty you'd insky has both VMI touchdowns Montrell Washington has scored on a rush and on a reception for Sanford and if you compare the numbers so far Jarrett as the first down carry picks up a few more yards for Ramsey you see so far teams that are right on their mark if not exceeding its scoring wise yeah I mean someone feel free to play some defense today because it's it's you know whoever plays defensive whoever can create turnovers I think is going to give their team an opportunity to be successful second down and seven one of the longest spells we've had between snaps on either side you demske looked to his left and said he'll dump underneath Oh spinning Leroy Thomas great job by the receiver finally knocked down by Nick Morton of Sanford but a big gain that time for the freshman who's really emerged this year and you see right there Pete the patience that Reese has in the pocket you know understanding that they're bringing pressure his offensive line does a great job of picking up that pressure and he says hey I'm just gonna dump it off to one of my playmakers and you see why he's one of the big playmakers on this offensive unit great job by that everyone across the board Thomas comes into the game tied with his teammate Harris for first in the SoCon in receptions per game Loras not too far behind and he's got it inside the 40 yeah they see Laura he's a threat that because of all the other weapons you can't leave Laura one-on-one with a lot of guys Laura demands a double-team because of his athletic ability and the speed he has JV on Laura that time trying to get it to him so far in the game he's got four receptions good job defending and Joshua Carter he's been busy this afternoon he's been very busy along with all the defensive backs I think that was that Reese's first in completion I think that was I believe it was yeah he had it he had a completion on a shovel pass at lost George but so far in this ballgame you didn't ski now 11 out of 12 by air just great efficiency just great efficiency great awareness understanding of what to do with the football third down and short and that's pretty much money every time they give it to that guy and Ramsey has another first down two out of three now in the game on third downs for VMI and kind of and having that balance Pete being able to you know pick up third downs third and short that's what makes this offense so dynamic they're so well balanced and they can beat you whether running the football or throwing the football cadets marching again Ramzi and one of the best running backs not only this conference all year long but in the nation the past three weeks 450 yards and games against Robert Morris Wofford and the Citadel that time John Staton who leads the FCS and tackles as the day begins takes him down but a second down and eight now for VMI and VMI team that's been really efficient and better than everyone in the conference in the turnover category this year and that could be a huge plus in this game because Sanford's going in the other direction and turnovers exactly absolutely right and the grab made by Ramsey coming out of the backfield Jared what's also fascinating about the season that Ramsey's putting together not only coming in today with 650 yards on the ground and he's obviously added to that in the opening half a play get an 11 reception game and their win at ETSU so that's another weapon that you'd in ski has when all else fails downfield yeah every great quarterback needs that safety valve whether it has to tight in or that's the back coming out of the backfield and because that you know you density has that it makes it even more of a threat third and short here Pete another third down try for the cadets and Thomas showing to be reliable his coach says he's the biggest surprise on their offense because you never know how a freshman is gonna handle the experience first and foremost as a cadet at this school of course and you know obviously VMI does a great job of producing great fine young men but not only that having to tack on playing a sport as well they could take it could be a lot for you know 1892 Oh young man so once again in the Sanford red zone first and ten at the 16 Ramsey all kinds of Suisse and the clear and a big time collision boy he crashed right into the eventual tackler Jordan Montgomery he doesn't he doesn't shy away from contact as we can see you know getting his pads fixed right there by one of his teammates he brings the he likes to bring the hammer ends up going for no gain on little dump-off try a little slip screen underneath and Thomas he does a good job with yards after the catch and he gets inside the tent now I see two or three guys with missed arm tackles on that particular play you can't do that when you've gone it's great players like on this VMI offensive unit you've got to wrap up and you have to get them down on the ground as soon as you come in contact with them now you have a third and short for an office that does it that's very efficient in third and short Corey Bridey is stood up Thomas now leads VMI with five receptions but on that third down play Bridey is stopped and VMI which has not been hesitant to go for it this year they're the team in the conference that's done that the most on fourth downs eight out of 14 they were two out of two last week against the Citadel 21 personnel to bring it to tight end and you have your big back your big work for us you already know who's getting the football against a three man in front for Sanford Ramsey goes outside gets the first down up ends his way into the end zone touchdown fantastic job by Ramsey a peat we're going to talk about it all day I know we're going to show the replay here soon but they bring in two tight ends they pull they pulled one of the big linemen and they allow gran C to do what he does best stay patient tough hard runner and this guy loves to jump I think they might try to get him on the track team the way he's been jumping right now we told you 17 touchdowns is the VMI single-season record rushing well three today for Alex Ramsey now is 13 on the season they are going to review to see if Ramsay was able to get the ball across the plane looked like on his way down he did yeah and you get to remember in college football you just have to break the plane you know as soon as the ball pretty breaks the plane is the touchdown I'm pretty sure that the ball broke the plane on this particular play but even if it doesn't you already know who's going to get the ball you see they pulled big linemen around he shows the speed and gets airborne yeah I'm pretty sure the ball and you have to have enough evidence to kind of overrule that that call of a great job by the big guys up front great strength great speed of being able to get to the outside does V in my office it's really clicking on all cylinders and Pete Sanford they you have to match that same tenacity or they are they defense me to step up a meeting continues Bruce Austin the gentleman with the white hat on our referee today on our Southern Conference crew one of just two games in the conference today most everyone else has an open day let's take another look and again all you have to do is he basically leaped right over now they're gonna say he was short of the goal line so take those points off the board but Joshua Carter was going for the tackle and suddenly instead of looking toward the ground and making the stop he's looking up because there's Ramsey trying to jump over yeah but you know Pete we know who's getting the football right here just as we did on that fourth down conversion moments ago and if you're Sanford's defending defense it makes it that much harder because now you're thinking okay I've got to pack the box to try to take away the run game but by doing that you allow these weapons on the outside and a great quarterback they have an opportunity to pick you apart and Ramsey we await the call they're gonna get him up off the pile and yes indeed he is in and that's his third rushing touchdown of the game and time for more push-ups will the Keydets there gonna be some exhausted BMI Keydets today the cadets have already assembled on the track and they'll courtesy of Alex Ramsey now dude at least 20 and probably 21 more push-ups as Clemens is on for the extra point try great first half so far by this VMI offense but you know I will always do this because it's so important you can't have a good ranking without the big fellas up front the big boys up front have done a great job so far and so they got to give them a lot of credit as well Sanford might be the only team in the country this season that in three games has scored at least 55 points and in three games has given up at least 55 they might need to reach that number today VMI is on that kind of pace a real shootout here in Lexington Virginia on our Engle SoCon game of the week big series once again for Leroy Thomas the freshman and his teammate Alex Ramsey the junior but boy Thomas and Ramsey a couple of weapons that have been getting it done all year long that was a 15 play drive on the game clock longest scoring drive of the day for either team 531 short kick fair catch called for and made just inside the 20 by Torrance Pollard and that's where Sanford will go back to work so now let's see if Sanford has the answer they certainly have had to answer the bell this year as we noted high-scoring games have been their thing in those games they scored at least 55 points they're 2 and 1 so it tells you there was some days when the offensive coordinator was walking off the field feeling good the defensive guy had his head in his hands yeah and the thing is P specially in this game the game is all about adjustments so what adjustments are going to be made during the game in at halftime to try to slow down the offense of both teams all a dokkan o firing knocked away what a great job in the secondary that time ethan Castleberry who's been playing some linebacker this year but they dropped him in the secondary today and we've noticed this defense for VMI is really almost aligned like a three eight today to try to defend the great quarterback they're going to get yeah I mean they they're saying hey we're not gonna bring a lot of pressure but we're gonna sit in the zone to kind of make it hard and difficult for your quarterback to try to make a decision and so if you by doing that you got to make big plays because if not they're gonna try to get you out of that zone force you to bring more guys create more pressure by running the football as you saw right there big third down play right here Carter Johnson the linebacker with the tackle ola dokkan is good of a running weapon as Samford has as a sunny day has become overcast here in Lexington Virginia great to have you on board wherever you're tuned in and our Ingalls socon game of the week and a true shootout between these two SoCon teams Washington got off to a good start he is scored both Samford touchdowns in Washington again he's had washes had his hands on this offense so far you know by catching the ball touchdowns running the ball really hard you know he's done a great job so this this Sanford offense we got a penalty on the play this Sanford offense they've got to put points on the board to kind of keep up with what VMI is doing on offense and Bruce Austin will tell us what that penalty marker is all about [Applause] our first penalty flag here in quarter number two and that is the second penalty of the game against the Bulldogs so that pushes the back 10 yards off play action ola dokkan and washington through his hands and see what v- defense what they want to do in this zone they want to keep everything in front of him they don't want to get beat deep you know they want to keep everybody in front of them and making it that's what that's kind of the whole point of his own defense and so by doing that if you owe the dokkan you have to kind of find where those gaps are would you kind of pick apart that his own defense VMI seems some teams that throw it well this season Marshall and then Mars Hill at D to but they throw just about every play to name a couple but it's God walking high and the key dad's head coach saying they have not seen a ballclub that throws it around like Sanford does that time a little bit too wide for Stanton but he had a feeling liam coffin would have been able to deliver the pop had he made the catch and this is a huge third and long so you know right now you're gonna see one or two things Sanford's gonna trying to say hey let's send it all over guys deep and try to get a big chunk play or let's try to you know run a little screen or a little dump play and try to flip the field and get off the field but if UVM eyes defense you've got to get off the field right here and make a big stop Sanford two for three on third downs pressure comes Ola dokkan and it'll be a punting situation great pressure right there by the defensive line for VMI great job by getting off the field they're gonna do it you know that's what we said it earlier Pete which defense is gonna step up which demons is going to show up who's making the adjustments on the sidelines to try to slow down the opposing offense great job by VMI right there in the Keydets getting the football back to an offense that's clicking on all cylinders Oren Dabney the nose tackles the one who applied pressure last week against that option offense of the Citadel VMI had five sacks and no doubt olá dokyun and his offensive coaches pick that up and oh yes to get it away ball is fumbled by Martin scramble with Pollard and in the end zone Pollard falls on it that's the touch now now let's see they will indeed rule the touchdown if Martin had had possession and fumbled it could have been a different story but a big mistake we talked about turnovers there is the first of the game and against the team that's been best in the conference one of the best in the nation in the plus/minus category so far what a swing in momentum and who would have thought you know we I'm talking about defense which defense is going to step up the special teams unit is able to step up with a big play to put it points on the board great job by the special teams unit for Sanford Torrens Pollard his first touchdown of the season comes on a special teams play extra point try and Mitchell Finneran ties us up at 21 all looked like VMI had gotten a stop and was gonna deny Sanford points but a big play on special teams and just like that we are tied up once again at 21 all here in Lexington on our Ingles socon game of the week 802 to play in the second quarter over back we've had the Sun going in and out not sure if that impacted Rohan Martin but by not possessing it the ball bounced off him made it a live ball Torrance Pollard boy the last thing he probably thought is that his first touchdown of the year would come on a special teams play but Sanford which has been effective offensively able to get a third touchdown and that's the first TD by a player not named Ramseyer Washington in this game we've got a tie ballgame so VMI is gonna get the ball back but they thought they would get possession again up by seven against the Sanford defense our friend hunter Reed at Furman passes along this note in the first half they're past eight possessions they've allowed eight touchdowns so that tells you how wobbly they've been at the start of ballgames including this today and going back to last week when they allowed nearly 60 points overall against Furman yeah and that's where you know there's opportunities to get better as a football team and would be on defense sided ball so reshoot in ski and he's got Laura and out beyond the 40 actually taken out of bounds even you know right there Pete you see the patients that Reese has in the pocket they've brought a lot of pressure so right now Sanford says our first adjustment is we're gonna try to bring a lot of pressure we're gonna we don't think that your office of line can block our guys so they're bringing pressure but Risa is a great job trusting his big fellas up front and they're giving him the time and enough of a pocket to get throws off to his playmakers like Laura and other guys on outside Alex Ramsey over 80 yards in this opening half a play takes up three more that time so 20 carries 84 yards for the junior for VMI empty backfield you'd in ski and company for VMI that was just the fifth turnover this season on the muffs catch try by Rohan Martin I mean recent surgical right now making sure the office is in the play that he wants them to be in didn't get a completion on that particular play but he does a great job of making sure that they're in the right play so they have an opportunity you know to be productive and that situation through a bad ball but to where no one else could catch it if his receiver couldn't go up and get exactly and that's just pure experience pure experience Keydets three out of five on third downs this afternoon the out pattern brimmer's John and he is knocked out of bounds but he's got enough for the first down it looks like it and great blocking by his receiving crew to allow him to get that first down I love seeing receivers that can block for their teammates to give them the opportunity I know co-chairs down at Wofford he'd always ever think you know the receivers want the football they've got a block to earn the football had a lot of scoring but the clock has continued to move during this opening half delayed handoff Ramsey all right good reaction that time by Sanford nice tackle by the big fellow Serge led up front among those there Justin Foster Arman Boyd number 98 has been doing a good job you see him there the nose tackle ooh at a 17 tackle game against the Citadel in there when a couple of weeks ago play-action pressure comes Ramsey on the dump off and they make something out of what looked like nothing on that play yeah you know he saw his safety valve right there and got the ball to him you know Ramsey does a great job falling forward creating a you know third medium third in what is that third about seven you think p36 yeah so you know third and six is a lot more manageable than third long keep in mind a good job that time just to get the ball away by you dense key VMI has given up the most sex in the SoCon this season looks like another free play and boy a good job reacting that time by Joshua Carter of Sanford let's see what the penalty is all about and reshoot in ski that time probably one of the more inefficient passes he's throw-in this season all sides defense number 43 in the neutral zone in the snap five yards we break her down and you know Pete those are the mental plays I said earlier as far as my impact keys to the game you know Sanford has to win the mental battle you know and now those are plays right there jumping on third and five creating third and short now for this VMI offense that's gonna drive coach Hatcher crazy at the half because you can't give an offense like this yards to create third to short and now a first down and it's they continue to milk the clock get production and ultimately get points on the board Cory brighty getting the first down giving Ramsey a breather there's Harris and Harris he showed last week he can get yards after the catch and he pushes all the way down inside the 20 Jakob Harris he has really emerged this season his sophomore season just outside of Philadelphia in Easton Pennsylvania and eventually it took some gang tackling by Sanford to stop him after a nice gain on that play 16 yards and a 1st and 10 at the 19 this time throwing underneath and mixing it around now that's Michael Jackson his first catch of the game for VMI we saw him a couple of big plays against the city the last Saturday he has so many different weapons Harris Laura you know Ramsey out of the backfield his job Reese we dense key that is is to try to figure out which mismatch he likes the best and then try to exploit it he's doing a great job of that making sure he's checking to play at the line getting the offense in the right play and his offensive line of doing a great job of giving him enough protection to and enough time to deliver good balls Ramsey back in and on that carry you could tell he was trying to weave his way to a fourth rushing touchdown of this opening half a play sets up a first down and goal and this this part of the field Pete they like to pull these guards like to pull the guard to kick out and have a tight end to kind of leave behind to kind of clean up anything as you see here they pulled the big guy and and great job of being patient and allowing these blocks to get rid of need to be so he can kind of get positive yards each and every time Ramsey touches the football and the fact they had a couple of quick scoring drives to get their first two TDs then VMI on their last scoring drive went over five minutes you've also got a factor in this is that much fewer time in terms of minutes and seconds on the clock that olá dokkan and crew can go to work so there's something effective about sustaining this drive Ramsey the physical running and he pushes his way in all for VMI touchdowns scored by that man Ramzi he is a workhorse I mean he it's truly a workhorse you know I hope they have some Gatorade maybe even an IV for him and have fun because he's gonna need that but great job by the big boys up front pushing and driving and continuing to have that tenacity that that's how he runs so much he's almost like a violent runner Pete the way he runs the football great job by the big boys at front and ultimately great job by Ramsey four consecutive touchdowns in this game the Clemens extra point attempt T remains perfect on the season in this opening half of play Alex Ramsey has 24 carries for 96 yards this his fourth touchdown of the game in his 14th of the year impressive work by the junior running back for VMI they've moved back in front 28 21 still time remaining for Crystal and open and Sanford to go back to work when we return to Lexington Virginia back at Lexington Virginia with Jared singleton P Kennedy with you on our Ingles SoCon game of the week those folks on family weekend enjoying what they've seen so far another scoring drive for VMI that 1 5 minutes and 2 seconds and that tie is a single game record for VMI in terms of touchdowns for Alex Ramsey with for Thomas Haskins establish that mark and el-amin on the run back and he is swarmed and they're gonna say he got to the 18 yard line so Sanford tries to answer 75 yards and 12 plays and again covering five minutes on the game clock so denying Ola dokyun just a extra minute and few extra seconds or so compared to the earlier scoring drives which were of three and a half and two and a half minutes for VMI and it's really important right now for Sanford's offense I know they'd like to go fast but sometimes if you go really fast and throwing out you get the ball back to a VMI offense is clicking on all cylinders so they need to have productive plays right here a smart play to get first downs ultimately points on the board olá dokkan was time and he's got his receiver and aj tony with room out to midfield Tony coming into the game with 19 receptions AJ Smith eventually took down his fellow AJ yeah I mean oh the Duncan does a great job kind of extending to play with his feet understand he's seeing where that that special spot in the zone is and then trying to make sure his guy gets a good ball and I'll see it like you see right there gets a lot of yards and first down after the play so they have like I said weapons and VMI they're playing a zone type defense so there's a certain weak spots in that zone all the dokkan is going to try it is going to try to exploit those weaknesses especially on this drive and rest of the game after that 31 yard play on first down Washington trying to make something happen on second and 10 he escaped to Lawson gets to the 42 yard line of VMI he's a shifty guy he's really shifty guy you know don't let the size fool you you know he has the speed and power to to really ticket the distance if need to and trying to get the first down achieving that after Jordan Ward made the previous stop for VMI they ran right back out that Keydets defensive front so now Sanford moves the change they've scored two of their touchdowns on offense the other on special teams benefiting from via Mize first turnover in more than two game Stanton will be knocked out of bounds as Cawthon got over there that's a great job understanding hey you know I know what he's feeling he wants to kind of score quickly but you have to be you know strategic and how you march down the field throw the ball to your safety valve get four or five yards and you know have a second and short just like that under two minutes to go before the HAP and Sanford knocking on the door and again VMI can score quickly but Sanford they've got it on the big time rpms this one's gonna come back is the illegal procedure call number three of the often five yards replay second time Toni the freshman out of Birmingham got a little bit too excited and those are penalties that you know if you coach hatrocks you just can't have on your from your team and the best believe during halftime he will address that you can't have offsides you can't have false starts because now I put you behind schedule now you have a second and long versus a second and five Ola dokkan 12 out of 24 139 yards passing so far he will fire long this time and beyond the reach of Washington double coverage or VMI that time Castleberry her they're using it a safety today and set up a linebacker and reat Rotman the cornerback Washington Square a couple of touchdowns today for Sanford so third down Sanford three out of five on third down tries this afternoon Ola dokkan hmm look at the stiff arm and he's gonna dive ahead toward the 25 looks like he's got enough for another first down oh man great job oh the dough can you see the athletic ability third and long you know he this is a you know design quarterback run have a seat young man as I continue to get this first down for my team great job Ola token began his collegiate career at his hometown of Tampa at South Florida first year with Sanford trying to fill the gigantic shoes of Devlin Hodges and more room and Ola dokyun using his legs to get his team a little bit closer and another first down great job I mean these are designed runs you know they kind of spread everyone out kind of force your hand as a defense and then they let their athletic quarterback do what he does best plenty of time remaining in the quarter pressure comes this time toward the end zone but a little bit beyond the reach of Stanton and good pressure that time and the cadets really forced that situation so the key that say hey I'm tired of you guys I'm tired of Chris you know being able to run the ball like this so they bring pressure Chris has a great job understanding that holds it as long as he could possibly hold it and he throws the ball just a little bit too tall for his receiver on that particular play up a great job great awareness understanding that his guy would be open because of the pressure that VMI was able to apply Sanford got the ball back with three minutes to go or thereabouts here in the opening half of play this is the tenth play of this Drive upcoming for the Bulldogs they have yet to turn it over so far today while they've scored as a result of a turnover in the flat Tony it'll go out of bounds and it'll stop the clock with 103 remaining and it's really important Pete right here for Sanford to get a touchdown I think you know going against VMI is offense you know they'd have four rushing touchdowns they've been very methodical on that offensive side of the football you can lose this game by just putting field goals for on the school board you have to get a touchdown wouldn't be surprised they'd go for it on fourth down Ola token of course he's shown you've got to worry about him sprinting out of the backfield dumping in the flat Washington great tackle good job getting out there and making the open field stop Alger eke Mallory the freshman linebacker out of Lana Maryland brings up third fourth down and for Sanford this season on call time fourth downs eight out of 12 they have timeouts to use and Chris Hatcher will let the clock wind down yeah I would call the timeout talk it over with your OC figure out the right play that can get you five yards did you need five yards for a first down and hopefully a touchdown play talk it over just with your staff make sure you put your offense in a position where you know you can get five yards but great job by this being my defense Washington all game as you see he's very shift he has a lot of speed a lot of moves a great open field tackle right there by the VMI defense so this is a huge fourth down play so they time remaining here in the second quarter 15 seconds but the way Sanford works that's good for potentially three plays of course they do have a couple of timeouts still at their disposal they're trying to win for the seventh time in as many meetings in this series yeah and right here once we come back from the time now I wouldn't be surprised if VMI takes a timeout because they want to see what formation Sanford comes out in and make sure they have the right personnel as well to kind of match whatever sanfur is doing so you know this right here is where you see a lot of chest matches between the two coaching staffs but they decide to go for the field goal interesting very interesting play I would have personally went for it on fourth down to try to get you know a first down ultimately a touchdown but looks like Coach hatch was happy with the field goal watch the fake though right Mitchell Finneran seven out of eight this season and now eight out of nine veritable chip shot 23 yards and Sanford pulls a little bit closer and 11 seconds remaining before the break and I believe Sanford gets the ball back this starting second half correct if EMI got the ball first so that's probably what factors in the thinking vm eyes got a very good fourth down defensive team yep this season now that there have been that many attempts against them so I mean 11 seconds obviously you never know what can happen any special special teams play but it's going to be really interesting to see how these coaches make adjustments at halftime to figure out you know what to do to slow down each other's offenses because both of these office or running really whatever they want to do they have athletes to get the job done so whichever defense is able to step up and kind of you know slow down and stop the opposing offense that team really has a chance to be successful to come out here with a victory 12 plays in 76 yards on the drive as folks enjoying this contest both inside of and just outside of the stadium yeah those are the cheap cheap seats over there on the hill we've had nearly 600 yards a combined offense and 52 points in this opening half and see what the VMI decision is here if they just take a knee and get into halftime with the four-time four point lead or try to see if you'd in ski can maybe fire downfield I would just take the knee get into halftime you have the momentum you have the lead you know carry that over into the next half but you'd in ski looking to throw Hill fire near sideline out of bounds looked like he was trying to get it to either Martin or Thomas over there six seconds remaining we saw a score right around this time mark in the opening quarter and now they will simply take the snap and take a knee and head to halftime with a lead but the timeout was called by Chris Hatcher so a couple of years can't you can't Bank them so why not you can't take Steve ibly so if they go victory this time victory formation the snap to the nail down you use one more time out and they be looking at a fourth down with two seconds left they would have to snap it wouldn't that be something so Chris Hatcher the veteran coach in his fifth season you see him and his team gathered around there on the sidelines fifth season guiding Sanford he's going for his 150 second career win today and his 29th campaign as the head coach with some prior stops including Georgia Southern where they were in the SoCon and he has so much knowledge when we talked to him earlier this week Pete I mean I was just so you know blown away by how much football knowledge he has and he does a great job of just kind of breaking down the game and explaining it so coach hire Patrick he's definitely veteran in his League the hang time on that throw alone would take off at the four seconds that VMI needed to get rid of to head to halftime with a four-point advantage 28:24 we have had the first half shootout that we expected on our ankles so con game of the week here in Lexington Virginia back in Lexington in a moment with halftime Sanford at VMI are in a tussle on a Saturday in the socom halftime continues here in Lexington Virginia on our Ingles SoCon game of the week with Jared singleton t Hannity with you it's family weekend here at the post at VMI we've had a kind of a partly sunny partly cloudy kind of day in this beautiful western Virginia town toward the southwestern part of the state and folks have been enjoying all the fun that comes with a football weekend here at VMI the pregame tailgates were out in force and so was some of the really interesting attire but what says college football more in October than a bit of a Halloween aura and of course somebody's got to be the chef he looked like he was happy to do it but the aroma has been good so far for the home team a four-point advantage at the break 2824 VMI up on Sanford Jerry let's take a look at our opening half of highlights and a VMI team that's really been balanced in this game it's been indicative of what they've done all season they've got a quarterback who's efficient as anyone in the country and they also have a lot of weapons in the passing game but certainly on the ground - Alex Ramsey he's really been the the focal point for this VMI offense but also Washington for Sanford's offense has been very you know key to their success as well just tough running as you see right here get off me little guy touchdown six on the board but then VMI brzezinski does a great job distributing the football to his playmakers making sure that they're getting big plays and it like you said Pete is so balanced but Alex Ramsey he's really been the workhorse with his BMI offense but you know once again you see here Washington just making guys look silly as he runs the football running it catching it for touch now putting points on the board but it's been very really interesting to see so far this first half a lot of offense a lot of points special teams made a big play as well as you see right here big mistake but Sanford able to capitalize and get points on the board with a touchdown on the special teams unit so really a really fun first half if you like offense if you like points on the board it should be interesting to see what the second half looks like that turnover by Rohan Martin the first for VMI in nearly three games Chris Olin oaken such a weapon South Florida transfer at quarterback he had 50 yards rushing that run setting up a field goal by Finneran before the break to give us our four point games have you look at the first half stats presented by Jim price Auto numbers wise a very solid performance on both sides individually Washington seven touches 497 total yards and a couple of touchdowns for Sanford while an amazing day so far for Alex Ramsey on the ground 24 carries 97 yards those four touchdowns tie a single game program record yeah and like you said it P you know offensively both teams have done a great job it's got to be interesting like I said the second half which defense makes the adjustment to try to slow down this type of offense as well as who wins to turnover margin you know who wins the turnover battle because you have the ball is so precious and so you have to protect that because if you turn the ball over and you don't put points on the board the other team will Sanford will get the ball to start the second half we noted in the opening half of play that Chris hole a token has some huge shoes to fill we'll see him go back to work and tell you more about the guy he's trying to replace when we come back to Lexington Virginia getting ready for another shootout we think in our second half of play VMI is up by four on our Ingles SoCon game of the week [Music] getting ready for our third quarter here in Lexington Virginia on our Ingles socon game of the week so Chris all a token and the Sanford offense about to go back to work trying to take their first lead of the game yet a very solid first half but almost a year ago to the day Sanford put up 773 yards of offense against VMI and a decisive win behind that guy Evelyn Hodges he's getting ready for his first NFL start on Sunday for the Steelers as they go out to the west coast Devlin Hodges not only a generational quarterback in the Southern Conference but in all of FCS he shattered Steve McNair is passing records a year ago in this game he was responsible for seven touchdowns in the win against VMI so olla dokkan no doubt has quite the example to try to live up to yeah you know this Sanford program has really produced a lot of NFL guys they've done a great job in this program to kind of create that culture is great for recruiting great for the morale of the team but you know I think right now Chris Ola dokkan he's just ready to come out and kind of play his game because he brings a lot of his own talents and abilities on which are very special in its own right olá token has already had a game in which he's been responsible for seven touchdowns this year to match what Hodges did last season and one other quarterback in Sanford history as achieved that his name is Jimbo Fisher who played under Terry Bowden back in the late 80s good job on kick coverage by VMI and the Bulldogs we'll start deep in their own territory to begin things here in the third quarter as DJ Dennis got down and made the tackle so let's see what adjustments are made Pete let's see what happens here VMI on defense first you know first half they want this kind of rush three guys drop eight and kind of sit back in a zone let's see if they've try to bring more pressure to try to force Chris all the dokkan to have you know kind of try to create havoc for him the second half hold it okay and off the fake handoff and a good job moving up the middle that opening half of play dokin on the ground ended up leading the way for Sanford with 50 yards remember in their first SoCon win of the season at Wofford he had a big 30-plus yard run to put his team ahead to stay late in that ballgame he's got a cannon of an arm as well he'll use it and it's caught heading out of bounds and a nice job Adams got a foot down after it looked like Castleberry almost got a hand on it for VM on council berry does a great job he's an inch taller he probably did not step fall down but great job by understanding like that they're kind of sitting back in his own understanding where that weak spot in the zone is and it's delivers a great ball for where only his guy can catch it Washington four carries for the wide receivers slash running back in the opening half a play and it sets up a second down and five coffin with the stop so now here in the second half one of the starting line backers Brett Howell able to get back on the field for VMI as he had to sit out the first half because of targeting it'll dump off this time wrapping up doing a nice job wreaked Rotman in the corner back Sanford pretty much just kick the game off and they're good to score close to 40 points it obviously wasn't the case against a really good Furman defense last week but they have been throwing it all around as per usual this season third down and three and Stanton the freshman he's hit hard and stood up by the way defensively was Caleb Tucker the cornerback on run support and it's gonna bring up a fourth down and short great discipline by the VMI defense it looks like Sanford came out with a little razzle-dazzle trying to shift formation things like that but now we have a big fourth and short right here Pete Sanford 8 out of 12 on fourth down tries this season Stanton he's got the first down the freshman really taking on a big load averaging better than seven yards a carry coming in and with DeMarcus Ware their leading rusher a season ago having been banged up at various points this season Stanton and another true freshman Devon Walker have come up big out of that backfield that's Walker now standing to the left of all a token the other way Adams gets by a couple and eventually AJ Smith will throw him to the turf eventually he got down to the turf but still great first down play you know as you see the hurrying up to the line of scrimmage they want to kind of get tempo tempo tempo just about every snap seems like a two-minute snap Adams three receptions so far or at least a snap in a two-minute offense for the Sanford team ola dokkan designed run play and he gets the first down he's six two he weighs close to 200 pounds but he's got a really long stride he's a long six - if you will yeah and he falls forward and we have a guy that's big body if he can take those kind of hits I'm lying back with the defensive lineman it always make it makes it a plus throwing this time and AJ Tony try to get away from defenders but actually that was shelling who's their top receiver AJ Smith the safety on the stop so shelling picks up five yards delay before the snap as we've seen that a Sanford on this Drive firing and near the 20-yard line a la mean on the reception serella mean a senior at a Douglasville Georgia a guy that they had hoped to bring into their offense that makes a little bit more this season than they had yeah he's definitely a weapon for this offense and what this office is doing right now so far P you know that they they're just trying to be very strategic in their play calling and you know obviously and making sure they're in the right play and really taking whatever the defense gives them great play right there by V mais defense to try to to try to get them off script but so far this Drive San first San Fran's been very productive as far as getting into whatever play they want to get into and getting a lot of production from those plays Ryan Clark the defensive end a senior out of Alcoa Tennessee with a stop for VMI for no gain so second down and 10 one of the few times on this Drive that Sanford has been behind schedule although dokin tries to get some of those yards back but once again that is read well and a good job surging in entire employed the outside linebacker so big third down play right here you know obviously you're in field goal range but you want to get a first down so you can get a touchdown because you really need touchdowns in a game like this Bulldogs are four of eight on third downs this afternoon they came into the game at 39% a little trickery el-amin Oh back to his quarterback they can still fire it ahead and they will South on the flat has room 10 5 God mighty close said he's in touchdown that was like a hot potato eventually Ola dokkan dumps it in the flat late penalty flag is thrown after the score and Jace Anton is 2nd receiving touchdown this season for Ola token that touchdown toss his second of the game I'm surprised Pete they didn't call Lyman downfield I mean that that play took so long to develop the linemen have no idea where the ball is I'm surprised that's not what they called unsportsmanlike number 15 of the defense after distance to the goal we got a try clock will start on this map when I heard him say number 15 the defense I'm thinking surely Leroy Thomas the wide receiver wasn't on the field you may have heard Scott walking home in the background into the mica Bruce Austin yelling we don't have a 15 on defense for VMI so perhaps that was either against 11 Trotman or maybe another player who hasn't wanted his number Caleb Tucker a cornerback where's the number one so Sanford their first lead of the afternoon and now 14 touchdowns by air for Chris Hall a token on the season that pushes them ahead of reach you dense key in that category VMI quarterback has seen the great ground work of Alex Ramsey today with the four touchdown so far for VMI extra point try makes it a three-point game Sanford moving in front they're going for seven straight in the series both these teams three and three overall each two and one in the SoCon as the day begins so a critical game for each team here in Lexington and we're back after this Chris hole a token 19 yards to Jay Stanton for that touchdown a 13 play drivin 545 you see the comparison between these two fine quarterbacks that we noted Ola tokens moved ahead of you in ski now and touchdown tosses by one with his fourteenth yeah great job both quarterbacks very efficient that the one the one thing I really like what that stat line was how you you density has no interceptions I'm not trying to jinx um Pete but I'm just saying you know he's been very efficient he's done he's done a great job so far this season only turnover the game by VMI which has been the most efficient in the league and one of the best in that category in the nation in terms of plus/minus but that led directly to a Samford touchdown and that's why they have a three point lead their first of the afternoon VMI going on offense for a first time in quarter number three at 313 total yards in the opening half a lot of them on the shoulders of that man and Ramsey pushed out of bounds but I scan on the first down carry eventually forced out about seven 100-yard rushing game for Ramsey his third of the season such a tough runner I mean you see he's such a tough physical runner he doesn't shy away from contact you know and with your alignment you love blocking for guys like that lob near sideline for Ramsey defensive back was step for step for him and probably never saw the ball coming is like Aaron Atkins that a linebackers probably not all that comfortable in pass coverage he is a senior though at a hazel green Alabama at that time he denied the opportunity for Ramsey to catch the ball so a third down and three VMI five out of eight on third down tries Seabreeze making the check getting the office in the right play near side Laura good for the first down and some yards after the catch Carter looked like he was going to have him wrapped up but he got away from him I think it's out close to the 45 yard line and Mara hit hard on the end of that play he's slow to get up yeah you see Reese right there watch his eyes he kind of looks he looks to the right but he knows the whole times coming back to the left to Laura great job by Reese from Denton skiing awesome job by Laura being able to take this take the hit and keep control of the football and ultimately get a first down stating the linebacker who led the nation in tackles an FCS coming into this game eventually making the stop from their own 403 on first down and Jude in ski will quickly fall on it after the bad exchange very rare you know mess up on the message you see right here he's reading it you know he dries it Riley I guess he thought that Ramsey was gonna take the ball with him but you know just kind of a miscommunication right there it lose a yard or two but ultimately they keep the football you didn't see the junior from just outside of Philadelphia we noted last week he reminds us a little bit and not trying to make a direct comparison but a little bit of another really good quarterback from the Philadelphia area who wears the number two Matt Ryan pressure comes and you demske will go down the sack Brett Granger for Sanford second sack of the year and a loss all the way back inside the 35 great job working right tackle right here the right tackle unfortunately gave him a short corner when you give a a good defensive in a short corner to beat you off of the edge it puts your quarterback at risk of getting sack then right there we saw you density go down now they have a third and long now this defense line can really pin their ears back and get after the quarterback here 10 sack this season for the Sanford team and flag is tossed on a third and 19 snap no I take that back actually a timeout is called Scott walking high the VMI head coach wants to talk it over this has been the worst position they've been in on third down so far in this game yeah and in thing is also Pete you have to realize she knows that this Sanford offense is clicking and he needs to make sure that he can also put points on the board as well so this even though most cases third and long like this you might want to just go ahead and punt the football but every possession is so important and so if they have a play that they've been hiding or keeping in their back pocket for that big long play down you know they get 19 20 yards they're gonna try to call it and use it on this particular play where statement was just a couple of steps away from forcing vm eyes second turnover of the game and then great job coming from the blindside by Bret Granger on that sack and that's why VMI is looking at the field position that they are they're trying for their fourth win of the season today are the Keydets that would be their most since 2008 they can come back and get this win they would have a three in one soak on record and be right in the hunt for the conference championship which is a long time since they've achieved that over the middle Harris in Sanford territory Cottrell player is joined by his friends eventually pulls it down ball loose at the end of the play scramble for it Bulldogs think they have it well let's start our first great job this is the scent from the previous play but great job by the offensive line of giving you dis tea time to step up in the pocket Harris as a fantastic job with using his body and then watch here because is he down the ruling is that Sanford has the ball you see the scramble and diving in at the end trying to fall on it was Marshall Gill the offensive tackle they definitely take a look at that one Pete I've got to think they would and you see our referee Bruce Austin and also where was fort forward progress stop that as well now that could be another thing maybe they try to look at but huge blow because that was a huge play by you know Chris Harrison the argument for the VMI sideline is that furious and Arn evil has under ever review before the ball is knocked away let's look at the different angles you see any park hit down before that fall comes out balls out right there falls out but he's a big body guy so to see if his his knee down falls out no he's not down quite yet right yeah so it looks like Sanford will benefit from a second turnover today by VMI they have looked at it and the ruling is confirmed VMI had just four turnovers on the season through their first six games they've given it up twice today one on a punt return try by Rohan Martin which was recovered in the end zone by Torrance Pollard for a touchdown for Sanford and now you give ole a token and crew the ball just shy of their own 45 like I said before Pete who wins the turnover Oh ball loose again another one is fumbled away and this time it's VMI that comes up with it as jarred Richmond falls on the fumble first turnover today by Sanford and a big one indeed as the momentum swings back we said that like I said before whoever wins the turnover battle has a great shot of winning this game as you see right here just a miscommunication on the mesh great penetration which probably caused that miscommunication and then the big four just the big fella just kind of gets on it and gets the ball back to his offense now Reese you dense keying staff they have a chance to really take back the lead as they have you know great field position and a lot of momentum going right now Liam coffin of VMI who fell on a big fumble in the opening half last week at the Citadel that really changed the look of that ballgame for the cadets they try to benefit from the turnover pressure comes again at another sack and this time surging up the middle Justin Foster of the senior from Anniston Alabama Justin foster does a great job getting penetration but you know the interesting thing about that play Pete that was supposed to be a late draw handoff you know to Ramsey but what does udesky do instead of handing the ball off and causing there to be a big traffic collision right there he just takes the sack to prevent the ball from being fumbled and obviously a turnover I almost feel like if you're VMI you've got to score every time you touch the ball because you know how potent Sanford is there MZ a hole gets those lost yards back and then some it'll bring up third down Alex Ramsey we noted another 100-yard rushing day for the leading rusher on this team and his third in the past four games ty herring eventually took him down yeah I mean great job of getting getting back those lost yards big third down play right now P you have the momentum you have to capitalize on these opportunities so I wouldn't be surprised you disc is trying to see which miss Matt which matchup that he really like so he can try to make sure that to exploit that he has converted moments ago on a third down only to have the ball fumbled Ramsey runs over a man will be stopped shy of the first down but it was all out contacting to Tricia and Floyd the Auburn transfer fourth or short you got to go for it right here I really think you've got to be thinking keep the ball away from Sanford's offenses Mons anything not only that but get the ball to Ramsey he runs to sum up so much power the offensive line is played well and getting better and better throughout the season throughout the game so put the game put to put this play on their shoulders he that's one out of one on fourth downs Ramsey started to his right did he get enough I don't think so don't think so we've had to get beyond the twenty nine he is stopped shy and Sanford's defense holds opponents were 14 out of 22 on the Bulldogs on fourth downs coming into this game but they get the stop and now they'll get the ball back on down I don't like that play I like the thought I don't like that particular play you have to go north and south going east and west doesn't really help you timeout on the field Bulldogs get the ball back they took their first lead earlier in this third quarter they're up by three here in Lexington the home side is packed here at Foster Stadium on family weekend in Lexington Virginia after getting the stop on fourth down the end around two Yasir alameen for Sanford there was a penalty flag on the play so he did get the first down yards however where that was thrown looks like this one might be coming back [Music] od 77 on the offense ten-yard for the previous spot replay first down that was coming back after the hold against Nate Lee the left guard yeah Nate's got to keep his hands inside especially when you when you're out on the perimeter like that but it looks like so far the adjustment on the offensive side for Stanford is trying to create some of those rounds of downsell plays you know trick plays a lot of reverses reverse passes things like that to try to get some chunk yards but unfortunately right now they're facing a very long first and looks 17 Stanford a team known not only for its scoring as Adams is swarmed on and it'll bring up second and long but a team known for their big plays this is an offense coming into this game they had 20 plays of 30 yards or more seven plays the 50 yards or more that's really one thing these have been more methodical drives for the Bulldogs instead of the quick strike with us because you know VMI is defense you know when they're playing that kind of deep zone only rushing three guys and trying to keep everything in front of them it's kind of hard to get those big plays over the top so VMI Stevens get them credit they've done a great job trying to create a tough opportunities for the Sanford offense Adams trying to pull it in one hand it'll be third down you see that offensive line in front of olla dokkan and he says that's his best room does Chris Hatcher on his team the old line has been a big reason for their success this year good job not only protecting Ola dokkan but opening some holes for him today love when the big guys get a lot of love Pete said he couldn't hang on he had that little swing pass moments ago for the touchdown off the crazy play and now the Bulldogs will turn it over so give VMI credit look like Hatcher and company for Sanford to kind of figure it out that defense but they get the stop penalties certainly helped I mean definitely pee and you know this VMI defense like I said their focus the game plan looks to be we're not going to let anything beat us over the top we're going to keep everything in front of us we're gonna make sure that we try to you know not get beat deep with their playmakers saw-max brim is yellow back it's a fake Wow it'll go for the first down and more and what a job that time as they decided to go ahead with the fake and Bret Granger who made the big sack moments ago now has himself a huge play on special teams special teams I tell you has really been the game changer special teams and turnovers it's really been a game changer nice fake play look at the big fella run great job understanding where he needs to get to lowers the shoulder and able to get the first down so the Bulldogs keep it all the dokkan great job on that run by Granger and I tell you that takes a lot of momentum out of your defense if your VM on you know you feel like you hate we're getting the ball back to our offense we're doing good with making adjustments and then you give up a big play like that on special teams that's tough Walker the carry and that's good enough for the first down so a huge momentum play once again on special team the fumble by Rohan Martin for VMI and the opening half and then the special teams the fake punt here as Washington gets to the 30 yard line Sanford now trying to add to this lead they're gonna mark him down I believe at the 31 and if you fear mines defense you gotta bend but don't break you know you want to try to hold Sanford to a field goal if you can Washington he has been busy today out of the backfield he said he's such a shifty guy and you have to really wrap up and get him on the ground quickly at the point of attack you can't allow him to get into open space you can't arm tackle him because he has the speed and the power to really break those little arm tackles and take it the distance Washington now with five carries in the ballgame and he's over 50 yards this time it's Walker and he's knocked down from behind and you have to realize that Montrell Washington had just ten rushing attempts coming into the game in their first six games well he's really the type of player whether it's handing the ball off to him throwing the ball to him he gets the job done Alger eat Malorie able to make the stop on that last run sets up second down and five Oh Logan on the run fires incomplete he had Washington wide open in the flat for a great safety throat but Ola dokkan I guess he just didn't see it but you know those are those are type of plays that you have to make you have to be able to survey the entire field you have an office of line that gives you the protection of gift that gives you the time you got to be sure to scan the entire scan the entire field and make the right throws third down and five Samford at 50% in the game five out of ten on third down tries and Chris Hatcher realizing with 146 to go in the third quarter how important this snap is we'll go ahead and use the timeout and this is huge and if you're V in mind coach walking on you want to make sure that you have all 11 guys on the same page and that you don't give up a first down and you hold Sanford to a field goal so this is a huge third down play right here Pete Sanford this season on third downs just seventh on the SoCon at 39% but keep in mind how few times they're in a third down situation really compared to most teams yeah you're right about that and the thing about it people when they're in third down it's third and five third and four so it's very manageable when they get deep behind the sticks you know third and 15 because of penalties or because of you know miscommunications on the play that's what it they're not as successful as any team but this is a big third down play right here P got to make sure that VMI as you see on third down they kind of lead as far as defensive officials he's concerned the best third down defense in the conference 36 percent coming in Ola dokkan buys some time fires caught touchdown Kris shelling the senior from Lawrenceville Georgia his first of the game his fifth of the season and Sanford builds on the lead because Ola Doku is such a threat with his feet as he's able to extend the play as he rolls out he nothing there to the right rolls out to the left the defense automatically closes in on him once they close in on him they kind of leave open with their responsibilities and right there Chris that's a great job of this arm keeping its eyes downfield and makes a great throw third touchdown toss of the game by Ola dokkan Conference leaders in several categories building on it today the extra point try by Finneran is good it's a 10-point lead for Sanford trying to make it seven without a loss in their series with VMI even though Sanford has a potent offense it helps when you can pull a trick or two out of your hat in the month of October Bret Granger the 22 yard run on the fake punt got him a first down and gave the ball back to Ola dokkan yeah I mean fantastic job by the special teams unit that's the second big play we've seen today by Sanford special teams and it obviously right now having the ten-point lead has helped them really take control of this game so far all righty we'll take the knee and so vmi which led this game by four at the break and was getting the ball back in that second quarter up 21 to 14 and you figure if Martin doesn't have the ball bounced away and I based on where he was looking and how the Sun was peeking through the clouds that probably was a factor but that led to the Paulo powered recovery in the endzone for the tying touchdown at the time gave us a 21 all game but that special teams play and then the fake punt two gigantic moments so far in this contest so the Keydets will need a rally Ramsey trying to weave his way through traffic and if you're VMI is really no need to panic if you're here the VMI team - two or three years ago you might want to panic but this team has clearly shown that they can put points on the board they could put points on the board quickly if they need to you still have a whole quarter left of football a lot of time left in this ball game I don't know if they would have wanted to panic two years ago they probably would have yeah exactly but I get your point what a job they've done though turning around this offense Alex Ramsey has been a big part of that he is continuing with a great day on the ground he's in the neighborhood of a hundred and thirty yards that pushes him up near 800 on the season and the thing is we when you're running the ball that hard and that physical you know it makes it hard on the defense you know they get tired of having to come up and hit someone that big and that physical down after down after down so you know ultimately in this fourth quarter you know we're going to see I think the results of such hard tough running for the first three quarters of the game trying to dump it in the flat that time - Laura that's a play that has worked but good job covering by Nathan East inside of a minute remaining here in our third quarter you didn't ski on second and ten underneath Ramsey has some room hmm another reception for Ramsey has been active in that area that's his fourth catch watch right here he gets the ball comes inside let his blocker set himself up to get a few extra yards great job great vision good job by Nick Parton of Sanford to make the tackle Ramsey tough to bring down and I had a steam into Sanford territory another great play great job I tell you the wire receiver got away with a little bit of a hole that I think on that particular play but as you see you know Reese is gonna take whatever the defense gives him and right now you know that this team is rolling on won't be surprised if they just kind of take this momentum to the fourth quarter maybe one more snap here in the third Aaron Atkinson that last stop for Sanford and let's see they will not get a playoff and that's how our third quarter will come to an end here in Lexington Virginia back and forth we have gone Sanford's been in control for the most part in this third quarter our Ingalls so con game of the week getting ready for what we think is going to be one heck of a final quarter of play we've got it for you when we come back [Music] second and four VMI just inside Sanford territory as we start the final quarter Jacob Harris room on the near sideline and the big sophomore a familiar target for reshoot insky eventually taken down by Nick Parton but a gain all the way down to the 21 yard line 25 yards on that connection through three quarters total offense 416 to 380 to in favor of Sanford but they lead where it counts the most VMI trying to score for the first time in the second half Ramsey now being a huge game well over a hundred yards with a hundred and thirty before that carry he was averaging 142 all-purpose yards coming into the game and he's already exceeded that better than a hundred and fifty five now for the junior and he has scored all four of the VMI touchdown great job I mean like I said Ramsey he's obviously he has his fingerprints all over this game but Harris I mean really getting those jars out to the catch on creating that momentum as we start the fourth quarter for this VMI offensive unit looking for room on second down and nothing doing good surge by that defensive front of Sanford up a third down snap wouldn't be surprised Pete if we see another play from Harris across the middle you know the Sanford's been playing all day long with two safeties deep the the kind of weak spot in that defense is the middle of the field and having a big tight end really helps Verma John but knocked out of bounds well shy of the yard to get so we will see is tamarcus cheeks the freshman was there on the coverage now do you send out the reigning special teams performer the week grant Clemens he was 2 out of 2 in field goals last week it kind of got off to a bumpy start on the year but he's 7 out of 13 on the season let's be an attempt in the neighborhood of 33 yards on the way and good so Clemens has a little bit of a roll going first try the ball game is through the uprights VMI pulls within 7 they you need you need three points anyway so great great job right there by you know kind of taking with it what the defense gave gives you on that particular possession and you know you carry that momentum over to your devious a unit they really need it they didn't play well in that third quarter obviously they need to be able to try to find some momentum some way somehow and getting three points on the board I think and definitely do that for their defense we told you the importance of this game as far as the SoCon championship chase goes just about everyone in the conference is open today including Furman Chattanooga and Wofford but there are Sanford and VMI Sanford with a victory against the Terriers VMI lost to Wofford Sanford of course lost last week to Furman but you win today and you still stay in the hunt needing some help however it would be obviously huge for either team next week speaking of those Wofford Terriers will be in Spartanburg for our Ingles SoCon game of the week Western Carolina and Wofford will see the Catamounts again they've had a bumpy ride so far but they're playing down in Charleston today against the Citadel Sanford will go back on offense at their own 25-yard line going to Spartanburg means we can go to the beacon Pete before the game many of these same stations we will have that game for you next Saturday afternoon same time from Spartanburg South Carolina we noted Western Carolina's Citadel trying to bounce back that's the Citadel team that VMI did a great job against mind you they've knocked off an at ACC team this year and they scored 55 points against the Sanford ballgame in a loss and underneath AJ Tony and able to get some yards after that grab on a first down play from old a token Yola dokkan does a great job kind of spinning that Flay as you see here but you know this this Sanford team they're not going to slow down they're going to try they could put a hundred up they're gonna try to put a hundred up whistles before the snap and perhaps there is discussion as Bruce Austin our referee I think is going to tell us they're going to review to see if Tony had a knee down right after he caught the ball so they will review to see if they need to bring the ball back inside the 40 yard line as Tony did a good job to catch that and turn upfield that gives us VMI defense a time to kind of regroup on this drive to say hey guys look we've really really need to step up we've really need to get to fall back to our offense you know we're only down a touchdown and obviously there hasn't been a problem scoring really for our office of unit but we have to give them a chance so I wouldn't be surprised right here coach walking I'm kind of getting into his defense kind of getting them fired up because it's definitely a big big possession Chris Ola token having a nice game once again 244 yards so far on 23 out of 36 and three touchdowns old oaken against Furman last week 129 yards and a TD they are going to say that Toni's knee was down after they review it or at least based on where they're spotting the ball I think that's gonna be the verdict and I spoke looking at the official you're seeing but then looking at my left and seeing that Ruth Austin our referee is still on the headphones and he is continuing to listen to those upstairs but o hadouken back to him and we talked about Devlin Hodges who had that great career at Sanford in the phenomenal game last year let's take another look so we can show you what they're reviewing right now so the catch by Tony is made I think they're gonna say he's dead on their I agree and that was probably the most conclusive evidence but Ola dokkan coming into this game second in the SoCon in total offense and third in passing right there in that same neighborhood with you demske VMI begins the afternoon first in the conference in total oh and you shoot em skis also the passing leader as the day begins in the Southern Conference the review continues but Chris Ola dokyun it's tough to replace a talent like Hodges and for the most part had he not had some nagging injuries he might even have better numbers but they've certainly found a guy that can do some big things for him both this year and next year is he is a junior after transferring in from South Florida and now we will get the official verdict from the replay booth after further reviewed the receivers knee was down at the 35 and a half yard line it is still being first down for Sanford please reset the game clock to 1259 12 59 on the game clock please so that's a 7 yard if game clock will start my 60 would they just reviewed in the booth from that angle you really didn't get a great look at it but it was from the downstairs field angle you could see momentarily as the ball arrived his knee was on the ground see ya made the catch in great job by the officiating staff of getting the right call getting everything in order great job by them [Music] in the flat Walker read beautifully great job by the cornerback Caleb Tucker you know we haven't we haven't mentioned Tucker's name a lot but he is really one of the big leaders on that vmi defensive unit and keep in mind a clean day so far throwing the ball for Ola dokin against a team that's seven interceptions as a defense VMI so far this season one off their total from all of last year bringing pressure that time and Ola dokkan doing well just to get the ball away in the direction of atoms and not take the sack but it'll be third down and 11 yeah I mean this offensive line for Santos done a great job so far obviously a big third down coming up right here so I would I would expect the pass play so you'd expect the defensive linemen to really pin the areas backing and try to get after the quarterback with this offensive line has done a great job so far there was a coordinator for VMI Tom Clark it looks like he's tried to turn the heat up a little bit at various points today we've now seen it on the series pressure comes again Ola dokyun Washington able to break away for the first down near midfield and it once again Pete you can't tackle guys like Washington with just arm tackles we have to really wrap these guys up and get them on the ground and equipment in a hurry great job right there by Washington understanding where the sticks were and getting the first down off the fake handoff and all the dough cooling is he got into VMI territory will it be a second turnover for the Bulldogs here in the half shoot it indeed is huge play huge play by the VMI defense great job great job being aware and alert and being able to get on top of that fumble liam Cawthon who had a big fumble recovery a week ago at the Citadel falling on that one and the team that's number one in the conference and forcing turnovers has their second of the game and their 14th of the season see the turnover margin 2018 just a year ago they were - 17 and they hold with - given away and two takeaways today at that plus eight but that has them tied for first in the Southern Conference and turnover margin will stay right up there Alex Ramsey looking for room and caught from behind by a great job catching up that time as Ramsey is taken down on the play about remark is cheeks the freshman so if you're VMI right now big turnover fourth quarter you know his parents family weekend in your home Stadium got to settle back down get those emotions under control and understand have tunnel vision and focus on your on your assignments on your child so this is a big possession right now you have great field position let's see how they work their way down the field you demske firing did Harris get a foot in I he did he is such a great weapon because of that six for height you can pretty much throw it all over the place chances are he's going to be able to go up and get it exactly and we have a quarterback as as efficient and can really put that ball on the rope as you as you density does you know he threw it to where only Harris could get the football great job great extension and great job of being able to keep the toes down you demske now over 300 yards passing in the ballgame Thomas and that's e8 300-yard passing game in his career and so far this season now a fifth game of over 300 yards for this VMI team in the air and that's a nice place I mean it's nothing it's not the sexiest play in the world but hey you know you get four or five yards you're able to keep the drive going you know you're able to continue to go forward that's what you want to do and that's why I've research of fantastic quarterback and the guy right now it looks like they're gonna get a free play whether to offensive lineman maybe jump first Arman's Lloyd the nose tackle for Sanford like he had encroached usually they let the play continue if this is offsides on the defense but sometimes if it's the if it's a false start by the offensive linemen and thus the discussion because I have a feeling at least one of those officials saw defend rather they're obviously might have thought the defensive lineman Lloyd was drawn offsides is diverted there's no foul on the play the defense never broke the nurture news Rizzoli second down the clock will start on my signal huh and it'll stay second down and six and as office alignment you're taught if you see any movement if you react because of the defensive lineman jumping offsides you know you're taught as offensive lineman to to stent the pop-up or to come out come out of your stance so I guess interesting conference and uh they said no flag firing and finding Jackson and that'll go for another first down for the cadets to the 25-yard line so first down on the 25-yard line I guarantee you we're going to see live a late flag on the play maybe a facemask in the area where Jackson was taken down to the turf Bruce Austin our referee for our Southern Conference crew today maybe his fellow receiver was blocking a little too early P and they call a pass interference and as we await that to bring you up to date Sanford was 17 straight points they built a 38 28 lead VMI answered with a field goal and you hate to see a great game like this come down to so many penalties late in the game it's been a fairly clean game for the most part but now you start to see a lot more penalties offensive pass interference 15 yards from the previous spot replay second down when they talk about it that long it's usually against the offense yeah they pass interference College usually pretty obvious but what a critical penalty that is it backs up all the way near midfield and they were on the verge of getting into the red zone Wow and it'll bring up second down and 21 that's tough right there Pete and let's see more whistles and further discussion and I you know I I'm not so sure that did they adjust the chains on the far sideline properly I'm not so sure they did that I think the chains are where they would have been had that toss to Jackson then the completion happened without the penalty I think they've got a reset things on the sidelines as you see a discussion continues they're trying to figure it out I'm glad they're trying to figure it out because I'm the wrong person to try that one out and as he has done on various occasions today our referee Bruce Austin will head on over to the headphones and talk with those upstairs and this is right moments like this Pete that's where your leaders on the offense or defense side of the ball they have to keep the guys in it keep the keep the momentum keep the energy high because you don't want to lose that focus just because we're trying to figure out the logistics of the game right now each team huddled over on his respective sidelines looks like front chained to the front stick to the 28 yard line because again they've got to go back to the spot he said at the previous spot which would have been taking you back before that completion of Jackson and apparently pushed off the defender come to you from here in Lexington Virginia our Ingles socon game of the week shootout we expected and I'm not so sure that our actual time on the scoreboard clock is correct and be surprised if they also adjust that by a few seconds and Sanford is trying to get a win on the longest road trip that they take all season long and two ball games going on around the SoCon today now for their headlines around the conference this is a conference that has a Furman team that is a top ten caliber we believe we've seen them twice we'll see him again in their big rivalry game against Wofford but Furman up to 11th in the coaches poll this week we showed you the video earlier the celebration last Saturday down in Charleston when VMI ended 12 games in nearly 20 years of anguish in their series with the Citadel when they recaptured the silver Shaco trophy with that 34 to 21 victory against the Bulldogs Chattanooga's a team rusty right doing some good things there the yeah head coach in his first year back on the staff with the MOX and maybe their the program no one's talking about right now still with opportunities against Wofford and firm and ahead for them definitely definitely that's the thing about the Southern Conference and it's always been it's been this way for years Pete anyone and everyone has to show up and play their best because anyone everyone could get beat here's Bruce Austin after review the change need to be reset to second and six from the 34 yard line the 15 yard open instant pass interference on number seven will be marked off from the previous spot at that point which is constricted down reset the game clock at 10:30 - till 10:13 on the game clock will make any were startled by 6 that was where the snap was now they'll do 15 yards from that spot so yes they will move the chains back and the ball will stay where they had placed it at the 49 of Sanford now let's take a look and you had actually the it looked like the pass interference was away from the ball and called against Laura number 7 yeah opposed to the guy who caught it Jackson and so while the ball was in the air he was making content the defender who could have come up and made a play on the ball and that's why they threw the flag and so now line to get will be the 26 yard line for VMI it is still second down they do indeed put 13 seconds on the clock that scoreboard all the way down to 10 and now we can play football now you're looking at a second and 23 and I think they actually showed a second and 21 but it should be second in 21 and that's what the scoreboard though says a second and 21 because it was a second and six and they walked off 15 then you know you can do the math nonetheless second and long for this VMI team shuffle pass inside Thomas looking for room and he gets inside the 40 that play looked like it had a whole lot more potential I thought Thomas had a chance to cut outside he did and I think if he had a chance to do that over again he would see that and kind of bounce it outside but you know able to pick up a chunk of yards I'm still third and long but you know when you have an offense as experienced with this many weapons you will have an opportunity to possibly get a third and 13 especially late in the fourth quarter VMI is 6 out of 12 on third down two big one here still plenty of time but again you know they want to answer sanford which can score with anybody Brimmer John had to come all the way back and make the grab it gave the defense plenty of time to recover cheeks again on the coverage and now fourth down and long in terms of the wind it is at the backs of VMI the flags on the go posts to our right are blowing a pretty good ways away from the VMI offense but looks like they will like to try to get field position here so as you see read King we haven't seen a whole lot of either punter in the game today the last time we saw Sanford's bradley pourcel ato they went ahead and ran the fake at Granger the defensive lineman did a great job on trying to drop it deep it is going to be returned by Washington from his own five well I thought Montreux Washington was going to make the fair catch to at least save a few yards cuz that ball looked like it had the kind of rotation on it that it might hit and die once it got to the turf so VMI achieves what they wanted to there they do pin Sanford back with Chris Hall a token improved been effective today and after turning it over on their last possession the defense for the Bulldogs able to step up we will take a timeout Sanford with the ball when we come back to Lexington those cadets have done their share of push-ups today however they need the defense now to step up against crystal a token in Sanford as the Bulldogs will try to work as much clock as anything else not eight and a half to go in our fourth quarter with Jared singleton pianta tee with you back at our Ingles socon game of the week then a good one so far today here at VMI and on second down and short see if Walker has enough for the first down as Elliott Brewster made the stop and he does so they'll move the chains once more yes like I said in the open Pete you know which defense is going to step up you know right now via mais defense really needs to step up and get in Oh pressure coming that time and a diving grab by Tony so another good job by Ola dokkan he extends plays well and he also does a really good job not getting sacked yeah we've seen that today yeah he has a great awareness in the pocket great job kind of stepping up because I thought that corner blitz from the boundary was going to take them out but you know this VMI defense really needs to step up the game is really on their shoulders right now to get the ball back to their offense from the 24 surging in doing a great job defensively for VMI and a big-time play Jordan Ward leads this team in tackles for loss he now has seven and a half on the season Jordan does a great job creating penetration and an understanding once the ball was handed off it's selling and making the great open field tackle big third third and long right here third and 11 VMI wants to get off it they need to get off the field right now three yard loss on that play [Applause] Ola token incomplete run in a dangerous area trying to get it to shelling his most reliable target and indeed VMI forcing Sanford to have to punt it away and in the process stopping the clock was 656 to go great job by the defense doing their job and stepping up right here I mean that was a huge third down play huge possession by their defense a unit creating a 30 you know three announce and being able to get off the field and get the ball back to their offense and giving them an opportunity to tie this thing up bradley pourcel ato will take the snap and punt it away this time VMI bound so flying in down it is ty herring of the Bulldogs a good field position for reshoot in ski and the Keydets of VMI they're trying to come back and get their first ever win in their series against the Bulldogs of Sanford just under 7 to play here in Lexington Virginia 648 to go VMI back on offense at midfield Harris reaches up and grabs it so what are you thinking now if you're this VMI attacking their offensive coordinator Brian Shepard well they have you know two timeouts six and a half minutes left great field position you don't have to win it all in one play you know continue to do what you've been doing all season long all game long run the football take what the defense gives you you know short throws and obviously I would definitely try to target Chris Harris because he's been the big body kind of your game changer all day well they try to get it to Laura through his hands that would have gone for a first down and who knows how much more definitely Laura Laura is also another weapon that they have on this VMI offense you really have to take your pick and you danske does a great job understanding you know what matchup you know favors his unit so you know they're gonna call the play he's going to make sure that the defense is in the position where they can be successful whatever play that the offense decides to call another big third down play for VMI they've had several of those here in the second half you didn't ski now 31 out of 38 320 yards hasn't thrown a touchdown though they've been scored by Ramsey all four of them lobbying Harris you see the size and he's got the first down inside the 30 I told you Harris is that guy he is the game changer on this offensive unit and he's six four so he's able to extend and you did see put that ball really high where no one else to get it but his play a great job by this office a unit great job by everyone doing their job Jacob Harris for a third time this season has eight receptions in a game that leads VMI from the 27 of Sanford over the middle that's complete to brim is on max prima John has a first down close to the 10 awesome job great protection able to step into the pocket survey the field see where he wants to go with the football and makes it great through state and the linebacker made the stop I think that's a mismatch that VMI exploited from is John the wide receiver with a decent first step so now in the red zone watch Harris again firing that way incomplete the locals wanted a cold call and just the reaction was kind of comical by those in the stands but on the coverage was Nick Barton no flags that will bring up second down and 10 I think he may have gotten away with one there Pete but like I said I wouldn't be surprised you see Harris right across the middle kind of bunt formation here at the bottom of your screen VMI has been effective in the red zone today but that was on the ground off the pump fake dangerous pass but Harris triple coverage three Bulldogs around him eventually Staton takes him to the ground and see if that got him a first down now it'll be third down and short so Ramsey time right here Pete got to think that Alex Ramsey who could establish a new single game rushing touchdown record if he gets the call he's trying to do just that in this VMI programs history I don't think he got the first down it's like 4th down and inches up coming you gotta go for it trucks and linemen put it on their shoulders this was the big the big boys one out front there you go bring in to extra tight in so you're gonna have 21 personnel that means two tight ends one back hand it to your four cores and put the put the ballgame on your big guys up front could come down to this right now with four and a half to go fourth down and short Ramsey I think he at least got the first down he had to get basically to about the one and if they give him forward progress let's see Sanford's celebrating is if they got the stop if ever this was going to depend on a slaw gonna be tight this is that very moment wouldn't that be irony playing out I think they're gonna certainly bring the chains out to measure this is gonna be this is gonna be tight right here Ramsey having a career day he basically had to get close to the one-yard line where that spot is and just kind of looking down where they put the ball and then looking across the field where the chains were and where that front marker was it might be a nose of the football situation but mm we'll get the official word right here I need a drumroll Pete I think he got it get it did you speak too soon that's right on the line and enjoy a game of inches VMI first in gold good gracious yes that was huge that you know Sanford's defensive line does a great job of not getting pushed back all day especially on the goal line we've seen it with all the big touchdown runs David getting pushed back they did a good job of kind of holding their ground and you know VMI offensive line they haven't had a they didn't get a good surge good push on their side so I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to Ramsey right here and you see that interior offensive line kind of get a good surge up front so they can get it into the end zone the question then Pete if they score do they go for two therein lies a question they'd love to have to ponder well they've got to get a touchdown first Ramsey has the hole and a fifth touchdown in the game a new VMI record in that regard if it looks like he appears a little exhausted yes and he might be hobbled too on that play he has been a workhorse today Alex Ramsey his 36th or rather 35th carry of the game Creek job and that got him the first down that was carry number 36 for the touchdown if anyone deserves to be kind of tired after the game is definitely Alex Ramsey he's done a great job all day great job by the big fellas up front doing their job creating that surge I talked about which allowed Ramsey to do what he does best especially close to the goal line and that's fine the end zone great example of how different this VMI team is in 2019 as Clemens extra point gives us a 38 all tie for 16 to go high drama here in southwestern Virginia and more push-ups for the cadets Alex Ramsay's program record fifth touchdown of the game capping off the scoring drive for VMI nine plays covered 50 yards 38 all our score first touchdown of the second half for the cadets Clemens kicking away al-amin and Sanford will take it out of the 25 yard line so now back to work for Chris all a token and the Sanford offense and as you probably know if you follow the Southern Conference Chris Hatcher kind of serves as the play caller but he's working in unison with Russ Callaway and we'll focus on our defensive play of the game presented by barrier one systems and the recovery gray by Liam coffin of that fumble earlier in the second half a very big parse vmi coming back from trailing by as many as 10 points just a little bit ago what do you do now if you're the brain trust offensively for Sanford as they go underneath to Washington well you do exactly what you're doing right there I mean you have two timeouts four minutes left you have a veteran offensive line who you know they're very comfortable they have a lot of chemistry together and so you know you continue to bring your offense and obviously get the ball to your playmakers like Washington so wouldn't be surprised we see a lot more number four where there's handing the ball off to him or getting the ball out to him in the open field shelling tied for their lead in touchdowns a year ago he's got a score today he had three TDs in the game against VMI last season and he of course was team with one of the great receivers they've had in program history Calvin McKnight it's time to hand off Staunton back in there on second down and short and let's see a bit of a pause here and first and how the indication is a first down yeah and like I said this offensive line the left sides really been the strength of this offensive line so these guys are not panicking at all you know they're very comfortable with the system that they run so they're going to run their system they have plenty of time to have to time out you know just kind of sit in and do your do your job all the dokkan saw the pressure come once now twice continues to his right and Washington I find Biola dokyun and in cadets territory it's a first down at the 41 oh you see it right there Pete all the dokkan does a great job extending to play with his feet offensive linemen you know gave up a little bit of a pressure he had to roll out a little bit play keeps his eyes downfield and he finds his favorite target that he's been a favorite target all day today and that's mr. Washington doing a great job kind of silt settling into that zone finding that weak spot and and trusting that his quarterback will see that and obviously making the big catch 7th reception of the game for Montrell Washington as you see clock winding 240 to go each team was to timeout Stanton just pulled down by Jordan Ward among others and I'm not sure how long that you know how far the what the range is for this field goal kicker for Sanford but you have plenty of time to try to put a touchdown on the board so I think right now Sanford's thinking six but all they need is three to win the game second down seven we're back draw running behind blockers and finding room for the first down as Ola dokkan great job of allowing his blockers to kind of get into position you know that's that's what makes a that's the difference I think between you know okay runners and great runners great runners are they allow have patience and good vision to allow the alignment or backs to get into position to make big key blocks so you can get first downs like that and right now Pete a minute 47 left in the game first and 10 wouldn't be surprised if he mi starts using those timeouts to kind of reserve some time to kind of regroup because you really need to make sure that you do you know put the best plays on defense so you can try to limit this Sanford team to not getting a field goal scott walking Heim using his second timeout Chris all a token that previous carry for 10 yards to get the first down now 14 rushing attempts for 89 yards that's how effective he has been this season he had that 77 yard rushing game against Wofford and the game-winning touchdown late so he's exceeded that output today and that's been a big part of the story while VMI you see Scott walking Heim he's the gentleman you see yelling out instructions or at least encouragement to his defense that's more that's more encouragement right there that that's kind of you know gut-check like hey guys listen listen you know let's bow up and stand up and get the ball back you know we've seen them you know coach Walker he has a great history he's been in a lot of different places so he wants to see his guys fighting these these feed my cadets they even fought all game and that's what this program has done so far this year they have fought and then you know they've been but don't break tight mentality number five under Scott walking home the Keydets have turned the corner but can they get another signature win in this 2019 campaign made some big statements so far pressure coming underneath the throw and quickly the swarm on Adams at the 25-yard line and walk it home will use his third and final timeout it appears stop the clock with 133 to go see right there great gang tackling guys flying to the football that's that that's that's what Coach walking I was trying to preach he wants his guys showing effort you know it look at big 97 you know right there he's the type of guy running to the football seeing the ball and helping his friends tackle the thing is right here Pete you got what third and five third and seven obviously you want to put them into a fourth down situation to put the pressure on the kicking game for Sanford Sanford right now you're thinking first down you want to continue your drive if you want to continue to march down the field and put a touchdown on the board because you don't want to put the hands of this game and to you know you don't put this game in the hands of the kicker Jarrod Richmond on that last stop for VMI in case you're wondering place kicker for Sanford and Mitchell Fenner Adams already good at 23 yards but it was eight out of nine of the season fuel long this year is 40 yards through long came last season we hit one from 46 yards away there's just a little bit of a wind blowing toward the Sanford offense third down off the handoff and a great job on the tackle for loss great job big-time surge Elliott Brewster great job by Brewster I mean just a surge you see right there from that defensive front creating a penetration look great penetration offensive lineman did not get his head across and right there great job by the VMI defensive unit now you put the game on the foot of your kicker and the loss of yards back to the 28 yard line in the neighborhood of 45 yards to play clock is at 10 and we're under a minute to go here in the fourth quarter I have a feeling and this is kind of odd because he would be icing his own kicker but looks like Chris Hatcher standing on the far side of the field at the top of your screen wants to go ahead and use a timeout there holder Cooper cross was out there they had yet to send out vendor in the place kickin and so if you call a timeout here and that leaves Sanford with one it almost tells me that you're thinking better to go for it on fourth down and if we don't get the first down maybe we get a stop and we go to overtime I can't imagine why you would try to ice your own placekicker in this situation well I wouldn't necessary thing he's trying to ice them I think that would be the result of he's obviously right right yeah yeah I think I think it's just more of just hey you know kind of calming him down and kind of letting him know you know communicating with the snapper because it's an operation it's a it's a team effort you know the holder has to make sure he does his job snapper has to be calm cool and collected so making sure everyone's you know okay sometimes the ice to go around tell the kicker a joke kind of relax some calming down a little bit but this is the big play Finneran a sophomore out of Fort Valley Georgia special teams that played a big role in this game for Sanford looking to retake the lead 45 yard attempt and it's good Wow second field goal in as many tries today for Mitchell Finneran and that one puts the Bulldogs ahead by three with 41 seconds remaining he he made that by the hair on his chinny Chinchin I mean it I didn't think he had another leg for cuz he's kicking against the wind but great job by the Sanford office a unit it was not just the kicker as the snapper has to hold her you know those three and they spent a lot of time in practice you know going over those type of situations and great job to kind of just be cool calm and collected and able to step up when they need it the most Mitchell Finneran coming through take another look and there was a little bit of a wind as you see those wives atop the goalposts but he's able to clear it by to get a better idea here actually started out right worked its way back and probably cleared it by about two yards and for thinner in that field goal made just one off of his career high of 46 yards so this is a good opportunity right now if they're able to field this kick for VMI try to get as much feel you know as much of a good field position as they can because they don't have any timeouts so if you can get a chunk of yards right here when you kickoff return team that would definitely help this offensive unit kori brighty watch the ball bounce out of bounds heads-up play it'll put VMI in great shape out of the 35 and interestingly at Sanford that no matter what the game clock shows in the contest they're almost always running the two-minute offense it's VMI that's gonna have to happen and we haven't seen those big chunk plays from the VMI offense today they've they're more of you know short lower plays but you have weapons like Laura you have guys like Harris who can make those big plays if needed we haven't seen too many plays really you know taking the top off of the defense per se of right now at the time show it where you shoot in ski other solid days that's gonna toss that one out of bounds he had yeah Ramsey on the backside wide open with a lot of green grass but you know Sanford does a great job bringing a little pressure on the offensive linemen they kind of kind of broke the pocket a little bit on that particular play create a second and long now get him ski now 34 out of 43 364 yards but for the first time this season is yet to throw a touchdown a bullet over the middle Harris that'll stop the clock as he gets inside Sanford territory now to spike it no timeouts right now I got a spike it clock frozen with 30 seconds they didn't get the chains in place and there's Thomas now you're really gonna have to run up to the line of scrimmage and spike the football I'm not so sure that was the most advised play to the middle of the field grant Clemons the kicker for VMI his career long is 46 yards they're gonna keep playing and Ramsey is gonna have to get out of bounds and with five seconds to go the clock will continue to wind and what do you know that's how things are gonna come to an end and the Sanford Bulldogs are going to survive VMI out of timeouts after getting the first down which momentarily stopped the clock with 30 seconds to go but there is confusion so let's try to get Bruce Austin or referee to clear things up was there was there one second left after the first down I'm just not really sure but instead of trying to with 30 seconds to go and a first down in Sanford territory you'd a thought could have at least set up to where they they should have they should have spiked the ball beforehand they should have spiked the ball way before this anyway P I'm very shocked right now because you you would expect someone like reasons who has so much experience to know the results of the play is the first down the previous play is in the review to see how much time is on the clock so and quite frankly and not to to pile on here but the official clock operator and again they keep it on the field the refs that's the ultimate say but right on the scoreboard it did not appear the chains were in place now again he's only going off the motion where of those on the field in terms of run to start and stop the game clock but you can see the chains had not been moved into place when they got the first down pass to Harris with about 30 seconds remaining so it seems like things went a little faster so what they will do is it will run out the placekicker and this will be a career-long make for grant Clemens if he's able to get it through 56 yards let's see how many seconds they put on the clock and again at the whistle they will start the clock well a couple of things here Pete first off going back to the initial play you would have thought that it would have spiked the ball earlier I mean you're good you know that you practice that all the time you see it on cross football from peewee to the pros you spike the football if you don't have any timeouts left number one number two the two plays that they ran I'm kind of shocked that Reese made those throws understanding the situation that I don't have any timeouts and if I make this short completion my guy can't get out of bounds to even stop the clock short you know so I was I'm shocked about that and third now you're putting the ball in the hands of the refs to see how much time's left Bruce Austin our official will tell us the situation so five seconds and you don't feel comfortable in trying to run one more play to get Clemens a little bit closer now this is a long field goal so long field goals like this even though he has to win behind him it might come out flat trying to have enough time to get there but this app does high kick is on the way from 56-yard and it's good grande Clemens picked an opportune time to get his career long and more than 10 yards better than what he did last week at the Citadel with a 46 yarder it's believable that's just kind of how things have unfolded here in 1919 for the VMI Keydets and we are going overtime it's the second longest field goal made in program history man well first of all they're going crazy right now and they have every right to be going crazy I mean he he put everything he had and that and right down the middle great job he probably could have kicked it from sixty if he needed to pee so you think his cleared more than Finneran that gave his team a three-point lead for Sanford moments ago I believe it did they were going crazy the VMI coaches are next door to us in the booth and they're going will list the outside of their minds right now Sanford knows what it's like to go over time this year so does VMI Bulldogs are to an O and ot the cadets want to know their victory coming on the road against ETSU while Sanford had that back-and-forth a ball game and I actually I misspoke Sanford's one and one and over time they lost in two overtimes against Tennessee Tech 59 58 then of course beat the Citadel 61 to 55 this will be the third overtime game this season for the Bulldogs a second for the Keydets and how do you like that I like it a lot because you know I don't have anywhere to go so this is this is fantastic for me I wouldn't mind seeing some more of this game it's going to be interesting though Pete strategy-wise okay if you're VMI you just came off of that huge field goal play you've got to settle back challenge in the play to see if time expired before the snap five seconds they would have whistled the game clock to start when they whistled to play clock to store could you imagine though they but all they have to do is get the snap off yeah I guess we have the challenge but boy that old that would certainly change the feeling of the stadium right now to say the least meanwhile on that track on the right-hand end of the field you got a bunch of cadets doing push-ups right now to get to 41 I see some guys not going all the way up Pete they're kind of getting those quick short reps my trainer back home would say you have to lock those things out Wow there's been a busy day on the headphones for Bruce Austin me our referee I just couldn't imagine the if he'd go back and look and find out that Tom had expired Scott's walking home obviously anxious to hear the outcome here comes the call off the review when the when the snap was made five seconds ago you've got to think it was not going to be an issue getting the snap off and again doesn't matter how much time is left on the clock when the foot hits the ball the ball goes through the uprights it can be at all zeros and that was the case all zeroes that ball was in the air yeah how do you like that and he he's got a chance now with only two games being played in the conference to repeat as the SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week grant Clemens who won the honor with those two big field goals and their win at the Citadel last Saturday yeah and for those at home you have to remember these two teams are both battling because they both feel they have a chance to control their own destiny as far as you know bringing a championship back to their program so right now like I said if you're VMI you got to settle back down get back focus dialed in and understand whether you get the ball first on offense or whether you get to go on defense play your game I think personally VMI is offense is set for this type of overtime back and forth they on the shorter shorter field very methodical they have Ramsey in a very physical good offensive line who's done a great job all day if you're Sanford Sam presenting a great job as far as you're driving the distance of you know the length of the field to get there touchdown so this should be interesting to see the strategy between both coaches going into this overtime period so if we go to overtime VMI for the second time this year Sanford for the third time each ball club playing its seventh game of the season and as you know place the ball at the 25 and team gets one opportunity per overtime and I talked about the key impact you know for the for the game was the mental game for Sanford having to mentally stay strong throughout the game because they had a lot along all the time before in the ultimately Civic mode of victory and an important coin toss more important than the one we see at the start of the game because this decision if you win the toss you want your last ups you want to have the ball first and put pressure on I mean it is a critical moment Alex Ramsey was hobbled after that fifth touchdown see him standing out there the official going over the different overtime rules get through a couple over times you're going for two and then you get to a fifth a new rule this year if we somehow ended up in the fifth over time you get one play for a two-point conversion trying to keep doing that but it helps speed things along so Sanford wins the toss George Brimmer aid Musto who had a big week tell the number 76 for Sanford he took on the last name of the stepdad just been George grim way before last Saturday because now George grimwade Musto and but we get the word from the Sanford bench when you 6 8 through 13 you left that opening to easily here we go over time and we will see with Sanford winning the toss just as they did when they started things out at the beginning of our ballgame wvl i that gets the ball first and will be surprised with big dose of Ramsey right here of course the clock does not wind during the overtime periods and as you forecast Ramsey touchdown number six and my right arm my right Pete big guys the big guys have fun did a great job creating a huge opening on outside and Ramsey saw the gap put the burners on house call what a way to start out over time if you the VMI key bet and you know what a touchdown means here feet more push-ups so you'll see those guys heading on down out of the stands the cadets the hero moments ago Clemens out to try to again make it a 7 point game he remains perfect on the year on his extra point rise Alex Ramsey averaging better than 150 yards a game in his past 3 coming in and he's gotten past that mark once again with a 25 yard touchdown run on the first snap in overtime great job by shane strand by being able to seal off that left side that really is what created that gap to allow Ramsey to shoot through and put the burners on and you gotta remember Pete this Sanford defense has taken this pounding all day by this VMI offensive line and by Ramsey you have to think that after four quarters and now over time that Sanford defensive front has to be wore down Thomas Haskins is the single-season leader at VMI four touchdowns rushing the 17 and now Ramsey's within two of that ola dokkan too much time being pursued from behind he'll tuck it and run and head on out of bounds late pressure applied by Jared Richmond and it will be second down great job by the defensive backs covering their guys singing that song and and they actually had a kind of a spy on a doe c'mon that particular play to try to make sure he doesn't try to you know get some extra free yards up the middle second and five right now they'll beat Ola dokkan having quite today close to 100 yards rushing after that scramble pressure comes again and he's going to be sacked back at the 30 guy really emerging in this defense liam Cawthon the redshirt freshman out of Fredericksburg one of many on this team at a colonial forge high he just made him proud back there with that great fight great way not to give up on the play beaked third and long right now Pete I'll tell you this place is going crazy third down in 15 they snapped a streak last week winning for the first time in 13 games against the Citadel can they break a six-game losing streak against Sanford this VMI team having lost all the meetings to this point dumped off AJ Tony and it'll bring up fourth down and short here's your ball game folks big fourth down play your deviousness on a great job so far clawing back remember that third quarter they didn't show up that fourth quarter they did a great job now it overtime can this defense give you one more big play on this fourth down to seal the deal Sanford two for two on fourth down tries this afternoon you need to get just inside the 15-yard line watch the quarterback power another trick play el-amin he'll fire man wide open target shelling reaches for wins on the season for the first time in 11 years the Keydets went again on the SoCon to go to 3 & 1 and overtime triumph here at home against the Sanford Bulldog Wow Wow yasiel Ameen certainly had Kris shelling open but el-amin is a wide receiver by trade not a quarterback and the VMI cadets for a second time this year the cadets come away with a win in overtime they improved a 4 and 3 on the year 3 and one of the SoCon Sanford Falls to 3 and 4 and 2 and 2 repeat that one what a thriller I mean what what I throw this I'm so glad this is the SoCon game of the week and for the folks at home across all of our region's to be able to enjoy such a thriller like this because this VMI team this is not your mom and dad's BMI team this is this being my team is for real and coach walking has done a great job of creating this winning culture this kind of winning mentality now within the program and if they get some help Pete this VMI team to go pretty far Alex Ramsey's a hero on the day with 163 yards rushing and a program record six touchdowns in the game and if I told you that VMI would win by scoring 48 points and reshoot in ski wouldn't throw a touchdown pass you wouldn't believe me at the start of this one but that just shows you the diversity of this offense at the VMI cadets have created here in 2019 and you see the great postgame ritual here on the home field for VMI yeah and the thing is to Pete as we look at our next week game at Wofford does he take with Western Carolina this VMI team continued to fall they continue to have that fight in their heart they did a great job throughout the game 1:30 next week for Western Carolina and Wofford what a game for the VMI cadets they forced some opportune turnovers they leaned on their junior running back Alex Ramsey and VMI comes away with a 4841 went over Sanford in overtime thanks so much for joining us we'll see you next week from Spartanburg South Carolina for Jared Richmond P Kennedy's saying so long from Lexington Virginia [Music]
