to be on a volcano? Hal/ Daisy/ Squeeks: A volcano! Nature Cat: That's right! I've always dreamed
of seeing a volcano... Up close and personal! Hal: Oh! Oh! Me! Me!
I wanna see real lava. I wanna see if it's always
flowin', know what I'm sayin'? Squeeks: I hear ya, Hal! And I'd love to find volcanic
rocks that are made from cooled lava to add to
my rock collection! Daisy: Yeah! And I'd be curious to find
out if plants and animals live near volcanoes. Nature Cat: Well gang,
it's settled, today, we're going to a volcano! Gang: (cheers) Daisy: But Nature Cat, there's just one, small,
teeny, tiny, little problem. There
isn't a volcano around here. Squeeks: Yeah, we spend a
lot of time in these woods... I've never seen one. Hal: Well maybe volcano's
are just shy. Volcano?! Oh, Volcano,
where are you?! Daisy: I think we would know if
one of these were around here! Here check it out! (eruption sounds) Squeeks: Yeah. I don't think there's
one around here.. Steve There sure is! Nature Cat: Who said that?
Steve: Hey guys! Hal: Hey look it's
Steve the vole! Nature Cat: You've seen
a real volcano, Steve? Steve: Seen one! I live in one. Daisy: You what?
Daisy/Squeeks: You do?! Hal: Your floor is really lava! Steve: Not anymore. But it's the dream home for
an amateur volcanologist. Hal: A volca-naca-whatsee-
waha a what did you say? Steve: A volcanologist is
someone who studies volcanoes! Says so right here on the
ol' Steve-ster's badge. Daisy: Oh, Steve!
I like your badge. Squeeks: Yeah, how do
I get my paws on that? Steve: Whoa, whoa, easy Squeeks! First you got to learn
more about volcanoes. Nature Cat: We all
want to learn more. Can you take us to the volcano? Please please please

to see what it's like to be on a real volcano. Hal: And see if the lava

thinking, Steve. We'll get a great view of
the volcano from Vole Hill! Steve: But, Nature Cat,
Vole Hill is the volcano! Nature Cat/Daisy/
Hal/ Squeeks: What? Where? Squeeks: I don't see it. Steve: You're standing on it. Nature Cat: But umm, Steve. How do I put this gently. This isn't a volcano. It's a hill. Steve: No it's not. Vole hill was once
an active volcano. A long, long, long--time ago. Nature Cat: So... Lava
flowed down this hill?! Right on this very spot. Where we're standing? Daisy: How do you know it's
not going to erupt again? Squeeks: like...like
any second?! Like while we're
standing in it?! Steve: This is an
extinct volcano. It is so old it's not
expected to ever erupt again. Nature Cat: So it's safe, Steve? Steve: Safe to stand,
and live on, Nature Cat. Squeeks: But vocanummeriest,
Steve the Vole, how do you know
this was a volcano? Steve: Let me show you. Steve: Okay so um, these
basalt columns are a sign. They were formed when the lava
from this volcano cooled. They're so old, this is
all that's left of 'em. Squeeks: Whoa that must've
been a long long long time ago, Steve. Steve: Mhm. It
sure was, Squeeks. Hal: So... The lava
isn't always flowin'? Steve: Not on an extinct
volcano like this. Uh, Squeeks you wanted
to see volcanic rocks. Squeeks: Oh did I say that?
Yeah I wouldn't mind. Steve: Well ta-da! These basalt columns
are volcanic rocks. Squeeks: (gasps)
Steve: Oh and Daisy? Daisy: Uh yeah?
Steve: All sorts of plants and animals live
around volcano's. Pretty pretty cool right?! Hal/Daisy/Squeeks Yeah! Nature Cat: Hmm. (sigh)
Oh this is great Steve. Really a lovely home. And it was great to learn
about an extinct volcano. But I was curious about... Steve: Let me guess,
an active volcano! Hal: Yeah. It's great to
see what happened once the lava stopped flowing. Squeeks: Or after the
volcanic rocks cooled. Daisy: And what plants and
animals live near volcanoes. Nature Cat: But
we want to see... you know. An active volcano! Up close and personal! Steve: Yeah, I figured as much. Which is why I called
in a little favor at the volcanologist society. Ahhooooga!
Ahhooooga! (helicopter whirring) Nature Cat: Houston?
What are you doing here? Squeeks: And piloting
a helicopter? Are you licensed?
You're a gerbil. Houston: Sir, ma'am, sir, ma'am! Steve called and told me you
wanted to see an active volcano. Steve: We're old buddies from the amateur
volcanologist society. We hang at the
museum every Tuesday. I bring chocolate lava cake. Squeeks: Chocolate lava cake! Houston: So I gassed up the
Houston-chopper and here I am. Hop aboard, please.
Buckle up! Safety first. Steve: Who's ready
to see a volcano?! Gang: Yay! Houston: Prepare for lift off. Next stop...Mount Zabini! Steve: And if you look
up ahead, you'll see... Nature Cat: Tally ho, a Volcano! Houston: That's Mount Zabini. It's the most active
volcano on the island. Pretty awesome, huh? Steve: Sometimes the volcano
spews lava and ash into the air. Other times, like now,
the lava flows more gently. Nature Cat: Now
this is a volcano. Steve: An active volcano!
Pretty impressive, huh? Squeeks: Whoa! Steve: Let's take
a closer look shall we? Houston: Copy that.
Preparing for landing. Gang: Woah!
Hal: Hey, Volcano! It's me, Hal! Steve: Pretty impressive
up close, isn't it? Come on! Let's make our way to the
observatory where we can get, as you say,
"Up close and personal" -- but safely up
close and personal. Steve: Okay so see this
trail we're walking on now? This is the result of an
eruption from many years ago. Houston: Affirmative, Steve. You are all walking
on hardened lava. Steve: Yup. And now it's a path
to the volcano observatory. Come on! Hal: Flowing lava! Gang: Wow! Steve: Yup! A fresh lava flow! It doesn't always happen,
but oh, we got lucky today! Steve: Look! Doesn't it
look like the lava flow was frozen in time? Oh!! And over here...
check this out! See the little
holes in the rock? The little holes are where gas
escaped as the lava cooled. Oh and --
Squeeks: Obsidian rock! My favorite! Houston: Nifty eye, ma'am. That is a little
piece of obsidian. Squeeks: Oh! Look
how shiny and smooth! Steve: Obsidian is lava
that cools so quickly, it becomes volcanic glass. Don't worry, Squeeks, we can get
you a rock at the souvenir shop. Squeeks: Oh really?! Wait till the rest of
the Rock Stars see it! (deep inhale) Steve More to see! Follow Steve! Daisy: Look! Daisy: I can't believe anything
can live in a place like this. Steve: It's amazing how some
plants and animals can make even the harshest
environments their home. Houston: Copy that, Steve. Steve: Look! We're almost there! Gang: Woah! Steve: So... You all did it! Hal saw flowing lava,
Squeeks saw volcanic rocks, Daisy found out that some plants
and animals can live around active volcanoes. And Nature Cat, you- Nature Cat: ...Found
out what it is like to be on an active volcano! Nature Cat: We did it gang! Steve: And that makes you all... Official members of the

there a skateboard where Squeeks should be? Squeeks: Skateboard time!
YAHOOOOO! Squeeks: Woohoo!! Yeah!! Hal: What's with
all the yahooing? Nature Cat: Squeeks

At this hour? Squeeks: Woooo! Hal: Squeeks, you
need to go to sleep! Squeeks: I have decided that
I'm not going to sleep anymore. Nature Cat/Daisy/Hal: WHAT?! Squeeks: I haven't
slept in two days! There's just too much awesome
stuff to do in the world and I can't get it all
done during the day, so I've decided to
do it at night. (deep exhale) Daisy: But you can't just
skateboard all night. Squeeks: I know that. That's why it's... Karate time! HYAH! (loud breaking) Nature Cat: Squeeks, you can't
keep this up night after night. You're going to get tired. Squeeks: Yeah right! Hyah! Karate mice don't get tired! Hey-ya! Hal: Impressive. Daisy: All animals
need sleep, Squeeks. Squeeks: No way, man. I know for a fact that some
animals don't sleep at all. Okay? And I intend
to be one of them. Squeeks: Hyah! Daisy: Really? What animals? Squeeks: I will
show you. But first... Squeeks: It's gymnastics time! Follow meeeeee! Daisy: So, where are all these
animals that aren't sleeping? Squeeks: Look at that. That's
a robin's nest, right? Nature Cat/Daisy/Hal: Right! Squeeks: So, the robins should
be sleeping in there, right? Nature Cat: Yeah.
Daisy: Sure. Hal: Yes.
Squeeks: (laughs) Well, check it out. Squeeks: See. No
sleeping robins. Daisy: But all
animals need sleep. Squeeks: But do they really? Daisy: I think so. I mean, when you're tired,
you sleep and when you wake up you have more energy again. Squeeks: Okay, Daisy. But how do you
explain the robins? Nature Cat: Huh.
That's a good question. Perhaps they like to
go to sleep later. I bet they'll be back in
their nests in a little bit to catch some Z's. Squeeks: Okay, well, I'm
gonna prove to you guys that not all animals sleep. But first... It's Yodeling Time! Yodel-Ay! Yodel-Ay! Yodel-Ay! It's hard because
of the tongue. Yodel-Ay! Yodel-Ay! I'll get it. See! I can't
sleep. I need to practice. Squeeks: Look! Those ducks
clearly never sleep. Hal: It looks like
they're sleeping now. Squeeks: How can
they be sleeping? They're on a lake.
Who sleeps on a lake? Daisy: I think we just
need to get a closer look. Nature Cat: That is
where I draw the line. As much as I'd love an answer,
I'm not jumping in any water. Squeeks: Well you don't
have to, because it's... Squeeks: ...Canoe time! Hal: They're sleeping! Look!
Their eyes are closed! Squeeks: Hal! Look closer. This duck has one
eye that's closed... ...And one eye that's
opened, therefore, it can't be asleep. Nature Cat: How
is this possible? Duck: QUUAAAACK! Nature Cat: Woaaahh!!
(splash) Pfft! Ahh! Ha! Ha! Water! Why did it have to be water? Squeeks: (yawning) See. I told you the ducks
weren't asleep. Duck: Hey! We were too asleep. That is until I saw that
cat hovering over me. Squeeks: What? But how can
you be asleep on the lake? Duck: The lake is a
perfect place to sleep. It helps keeps us safe from any
animals that may want to eat us. Squeeks: Fair. That makes sense.
But one of your eyes was opened. How can you sleep
with one eye opened? Duck: Ah. Good question. You see, we ducks can
rest half our brains while the other
half stays alert. So one eye is closed
and resting, and the other is
watching for danger, like lurking cats. QUAAAAACK! (splash) Nature Cat: Not again! ARGH! Duck: Alright, well,
now if you'll excuse me, it's time to get
some shut eye. And some open eye. All: Good night, ducks! Nature Cat: So you see,
Squeeks, all animals sleep. Squeeks: Well, not me,
cause then I'd miss... Hula Hoop Time! Squeeks: Hula-hula!
I'm a rock-a-hula-baby! Squeeks: (yawns) Hula-hula!
I'm a rock-a-hula-baby! Whoops. Hal: If you got some sleep,
I'm sure you'd be able to be a rock-a-hula baby. Squeeks: Not all animals need
sleep, Hal, remember the robins? Nature Cat: Well, I bet
those robins are sleeping back in their nest right now. Squeeks: There's only
one way to find out. Squeeks: See! The robins still
aren't sleeping in their nest. Nature Cat: How
is this possible? Daisy: I'm sure there's
a logical explanation. I know when I don't
get enough sleep, it makes me really
(big yawn) grumpy. Squeeks: But robins
don't need sleep! In fact I can show you another
animal that never sleeps. Hal: Where?
Squeeks: This way! Squeeks: Trombone time! (trombone blares) Squeeks: (yawns) Oh, wow! (struggling) I don't remember the
trombone being that heavy. Daisy: Maybe it feels heavy because you're
so tired, Squeeks. Squeeks: Clearly
that's not the case. I just need a
lighter instrument. (kazoo sounds) Squeeks: Now follow me! Squeeks: Behold! An
animal that never sleeps! Hal: How do you know
it never sleeps? Squeeks: Okay, every time
I see this horse, right, it's always standing
on its hooves. So, um, it never sleeps. Gang: Hmm...
Hal: His eyes are both closed. I think he's sleeping right now. Squeeks: But he's
standing up, man. There is no way he's
sleeping! Look at this guy. He's wide awake. Nature Cat: Excuse me,
Horse, are you sleeping? (poke poke) Horse: NEEEEEEIGH! Hey whoa!
Whoa! Why'd you wake me up? Nature Cat: I'm so sorry! I wasn't even sure
you were sleeping! Hal: Yeah, you're standing up! Horse: We horses doze
a lot standing up. Very very refreshing.
You should try it sometime. Daisy: So, wait,
you never lie down? Horse: Oh, I'll lay down
for some deep sleep, but not as often as dozing. And it's gotta be in a
safe place, like my barn, where no cats can sneak up on me and scare my horsey heart out. NEEEEEEEIGH! Horse: Now, if you'll
excuse me, back to my doze. Nighty night... Nature Cat: Now do you believe
all animals need to sleep? Squeeks: Please, Nature Cat,
I need to practice my kazoo. (yawns) Daisy: Ummm, Squeeks,
hate to break it to ya, but you don't even have a kazoo. Squeeks: No! My kazoo! It's gone! Where are you kazoo?
Such a sweet and trusted friend. Kazoo! I will avenge you! Oooooh! I weep for you sweet Kazoo! Hal: Squeeks, hi, I think
you're gettin' a little loopy. Squeeks: Loopy!
That's a nice name. Hey, what's up? I'm Loopy! Nice to meet you. Where you wanna go
for dinner Loopy? I dunno. How about
Loopy's place? Llllloopy! Daisy: Squeeks... Squeeks: Who's
Squeeks? I'm Loopy! Daisy: Loopy, you need sleep! Squeeks: Nope, can't sleep, nope, nope, time for my workout! Gotta build up the old muscles. (grunts) Squeeks: Oh yeah, baby.
Check out these triceps! (grunting) Nature Cat: Squeeks, every
animal needs to rest. Squeeks: Not the robins. Nature Cat: Oh, I'm sure
those robins are sleeping in their nest by now. Squeeks: Loopy needs
proof! Let's go! Nature Cat: I don't get it! The robins still aren't
sleeping in their nest. Squeeks: That's because not all
animals need sleep, Daisy. Nature Cat: Uh. I'm Nature Cat! Squeeks: I know. Okay, Daisy
Cat. Whatever you say. I'll show you another
animal that never sleeps. Follow me. Hal: Aren't we supposed
to follow you somewhere? Squeeks:
Right. Right. Yeah. Onward and Loopward! Squeeks: Now looky here. Hal: At your eyes?
Squeeks: Oh wait! Those are the things
I looky with. Whoops. Squeeks: Okay. Looky there! Hal: (gasps) A butterfly! I wonder if she wants to frolic. Daisy: I think she's asleep. Squeeks: No way, man! Butterbeans can't even close
their eyes like we can, so they definitely don't sleep. Nature Cat: It sure
looks like it's asleep. Butterfly: Ahhhhhh! Why
are you so close to me?! Nature Cat: I'm so sorry, I was just trying to find
out if you were asleep. Butterfly: Well, we don't
sleep the same as you do, but we butterflies
need our rest. And we like to rest someplace
safe, like under a leaf, so no one will eat us. Squeeks: Why does a
butter dish need to rest? Butterfly: I need rest for
the same reasons you do! Rest gives me the energy to go
about my butterfly business during the day, like finding
food and laying eggs. Hal: Well, we want you
to be able to find food, so we'll let you get
back to your resting. Butterfly: Thank you!
Nighty night. Squeeks: Okay!
Cookie Baking Time! Nature Cat: Squeeks!
You really need to sleep! Squeeks: No, no,
I'm like a robin, I don't need sleepy time at all. And my...stomach is red! Voice: Keep it down
out there, please! Hal: Who said that? Was that me? Nature Cat: Robins?! What
are you guys doing here? Robin 1: We're trying
to get some sleep! Daisy: Well why don't
you sleep in your nest? Robin 2: We just use our nest
to keep our baby robins warm and safe... Robin 3 ...until
they're big enough to take care of themselves. Robin 4: After that,
we find the safest spot we can to tuck in for sleep. Squeeks: Oh wow! I didn't
think you guys slept at all. Robin 1: Of course we do! All Robins: All animals sleep! Squeeks: Yeah. That's what
everyone keeps telling me. Okay, my theory
has been debunked. Whoops!
Gang: (laughs) Robin 2: Now if
you'll excuse us... we really need to get
back to sleep, please! Squeeks: Right, right, sorry! Good night! All Robins: Good night! All: Bye, birds! Squeeks: Huh! I guess I learned
a little something today. I never knew how important
it was to get rest. Nature Cat: So, Squeeks, now
