I love that they are doing this. I love the fans who have loaded their VHS rips, but these are where it's at. I'd love if they just started uploading race by race per year. (For example like this; 1995 Daytona 500, then the next one, and so on.)

Look at all that side by side racing. If we had something close to that again, we'd be in good shape. Just randomly skipping to various parts in the race, there was always a side by side battle it seemed. 5-10 cars all bumper to bumper, side by side. Good stuff.

This was the first NASCAR Cup Series points race of my lifetime. I had just been born ten days earlier on the 18th.

the field the field is rolling preliminary laughs about to mehron we're getting set for the 36th annual 600 welcome back to the Charlotte Motor Speedway pace laps on the race track right now in advance of the coca-cola 600 very overcast today temperature the low 70s extremely humid and the ceiling is very low and that's causing us to not be able to put our in-car helicopter up for you today our steel aerial platform we have five terrific in-car cameras we want to take you for a ride today with Bill Elliott and Mark Martin and Ted Musgrave and Bobby Hamilton and we'll do all that hopefully a little bit later on this afternoon but for the moment at least they're telling us from the airport that it's to lowest ceiling to safely put the helicopter up so we're going to skip that for now field ready to get going ken Squier 600 miles of racing action to begin our afternoon we're one lap away for twenty four fours 14 Chevrolet's and four Pontiacs pace car brings them by one to go those that fail to qualify Johnny Chapman Jimmy Hensley Bobby Hillin there's the pole sitter Navy Jones didn't make it Jeff Purvis Greg sacks pretty anxious pit road down there today a lot of work for those folks everybody knows it's a long way though and all I want to do is get there Dean GWS release driver is right there that's jimmy hensley Gerald told me that he looked at a lot of Grand National drivers and then he decided he wants he wanted somebody with a lot of Winston Cup experience or any that carry him into this thing and he thought Hensel it was the right guy well there's definitely Hensley's had a lot of time and wants to cut car and you know there's not a matter of the Winston Cup or the Busch grand national guys are really eligible but Jimmy Hensley is the one that's been there have been doing this stuff before that front row and the third position together just 27 years of age is the average for those three with that twenty three-year-old and the 27 year old beside him in the 29 year old back there and Ricky Craven as they get ready to bring him down and get this race underway the youth movement is moved to the front in Winston Cup stock car racing Brett Bodine bringing Junior Johnson's number 11 what a beautiful start 120,000 sold-out seats everyone standing in field another forty or fifty thousand here at this mile and a half facility ladies and gentlemen for 600 didn't let him get come on outside deed bobby labonte who's pressing on the outside on the 18 keeping Gordon honest in this first lap and going by bobby labonte who has been in Gordon's shadow finishing twice this year behind him runner-up to him for Whoopi of the year putting that Gibbs car out in front and there is a stop-and-go call on Kyle Petty's and number 42 for jumping the fly [Applause] I told him not to get good company that was on that Winston special he was setting back to another land here we come out of the turn and here's Kyle ready to come in as they come by this time it'll be Labonte first Gordon second Craven third Brett Bodine is in fourth straight or fifth and Marlin let's go look a little further back in the field what do you think we want to be doing like what are you focusing for 600 I'll tell you I think all the guys in the drivers are sitting there trying to fill the car out make sure everything isn't rubbing and that sort of stuff obviously they've been sitting for quite a while and everybody's been thinking and code and Ricky Craven that's referred now I think everybody just tried to sort of get settled down let's get this thing started and see how the car is doing and what we've got a detail you can't let nobody get too far hit everything [Applause] Schrader's scooting through in the number 25 from the six position he moves into third look like Kyle Petty lost a lap on his I stopped available so on already he's gonna be one lap down we saw a guy yesterday come out here that rich bickle and makeup what a show he put on Grand National race probably the best one ever run here 300 miles dick Berggren has a thought for us but the downside on that race yesterday ken was all the crashes and so many of them started when the drivers were running 3y in the drivers meeting just two hours ago Gary Nelson cautioned the drivers in today's race he said do not run be very careful remember what you saw yesterday doing that can take the air off of fellow competitors car it's a long race take it easy at the beginning well I guess somebody didn't hear him well for certain Mark Martin is not taking it easy he's rolling out of the back of the field as you see Westie Wallace back here he's in 16th position back in 22nd position is Mark Martin and there you see him trying to work his way up through his he moves under derrike cope should look like he was gonna be three wide right there coming off the corner right with him tops the three-time winner the man in black Earnhardt water oil how'd you like that silver Carla obviously it didn't so no no I yeah you like the looks at it look good but this looks natural and black here he is getting undercoat you got tired of running second look first now Jeff Gordon back for the lead they say he has allergies lerczak to anything outdoors allergic to any position other than first these days [Music] good job mr. Shi and they have made a big mark on the rest of the field this early that quickly they got a really good jump on their cell phone take a look at those two leaders and it's a long way back to that third place car and straighter followed by beau diamond Craven and Sterling Marlin Michael Waltrip they're the leaders coming down at a turn two and that's the interval back to third Slater for Brett fifth Ricky Craven six and sterling marca seventh in there Michael Walter Steve Burns has a report from the darrell waltrip it's Ken don't be surprised to see DW come down pit road soon he's radioed in to the crew he said guys I'm hurt real bad and he sounds out of breath as well well that's been the big problem they've even built a platform for his right arm he just can't lean that steering wheel over when he's out there and every time he tries it just cuts off his breathing he's wanting 41st on the field Darrell Waltrip became here with such high hopes Chad little is an early pit stop number 97 on pit road chat a little yesterday's winner we're watching to the 17 car maybe we'll see I'm still out there hoping for a caution but running on the tail into the field darrell waltrip the five-time winner he's going to do everything he could do this get a caution and get Jimmy Hensley in the car they didn't discover those cracked ribs until the weekend they had torn cartilage reported from that bruising 180 mile an hour crash but it's turned into more and Hensley is standing by to go into car number 17 the West side by side further back in the field there goes Ricky Rudd and reeling around the outside of this mile and a half Speedway as he gets around Rusty Wallace that's in 12th position you see right there boys Jeff and car number 8 for the stub Ola brothers spotters on their toes today we're going to take a break and then come back we've completed 12 of 400 laps as you watch ricky rudd flying in his way up through the field after starting 18th into 12 and there are your leaders Gordon and lobotomies [Applause] from the steel aerial camera this shot of the two leaders rounding the mile and a half Charlotte Motor Speedway now that particular helicopter flies at a lower altitude and does the camera rather the helicopter that has the equipment for the onboard cameras I have to be up another two or three thousand feet and they haven't been cleared to get up that far yet so we'll just have to wait in our in park I'm not waiting for anyone as Jeff Gordon he's planked that number 24 Chevrolet in front and staying in first after a griot he was number two Rusty Wallace down to the inside making his move and he's getting back up another spot up to tenth now he really really wants to do good Pinsky them didn't make indian put a little bit extra pressure on him he's not really been good nadir as good as what he thinks in hand that move around number 30 michael waltrip brings him tonight Rusty Wallace up to the ninth after starting 24th on the field he's been very confident about this got a horse that will run I tell you rusty was one of the better cars in practice yesterday he was one of the guys that could run right with Jeff Gordon you know right now Bobby the body sticking out of a difference hey folks yesterday morning they had a chance to get the Winston Cup cars out and play but then that critical happy hour when everybody gets out they're all ready to go that got washed out how much of a difference does that make if you can't get that last hour in on a Saturday we've been up for two weeks so if you if you haven't figured it out by then you're not going to figure it out yesterday morning was a really good practice session had a full hour and I think that was basically getting that happy hour you get to happy get unhappy the way you get away from what you've known for like he said for two weeks and you start making some more changes and then you really mess it up so probably all in all there's probably don't Rusty Wallace is just blown by Sterling Marlin and number four picked himself up an eighth position as he continues his charge toward the front and there you see Mark Martin on the backend of this group the car number six of under nine Lake speed he is from 17th position now remember he started way back in this parade second squad at the outset now 16 under Lake speed and going for Morgan Shepherd the Jack Roush Valvoline old looking tough [Applause] Morgan Shepherd picks up the little here it's like Earnhardt's following it right after that do the traffic I'm Strickland Justin frontiers Earnhardt moving his way through right with Martin from the rear of the field used to be a pit crew member used to stand on the wall of watch what's going on Andy Petree however is watching his car on our television broadcast he's gone to 30 [Music] we're going to jump on next knock before this race started Earnhardt said the car wasn't deer as fast as he wanted it to be but looks like it's about fast enough to do some serious business here Charlie working the 25th lap Earnhardt doing serious business right now as he closes with Martin on Morgan Shepherd moves for Hut Strickland as well 25 miles for the seven and a half green flag laps thus far in the coca-cola 600 Wallace start 42 drivers going forward here for $1,400,000 in his 36th annual go took you what 15 16 years to at least we started here in 1960 in 75 with my father the 600 I think I've won a couple of 500 but just never could get the combinations run all day you know run good is one of our better racetracks but this Boris finishing didn't have a knife services what's the secret in the right circumstances you got to have a good car you know I made no matter what you don't win if you don't have a good car but then you've got to have things happen for you away and it deal with 600 miles and so much could happen in six in a mile and it's so long that you get more circumstances you do in a regular race there's ricky rudd trying to make a move for tenth position on Sterling Marlin and that time sterling fights him off Rudd from 18th position first win 1961 the year Charlotte Motor Speedway red they had a hundred-mile for a swallow found racing I think all the rest them run out of gas I got a better gas mileage in here I wound up winning the race and start on pole and other than that we didn't race I'd like to play that fight for 500 miles and it was a 600-mile race as well as we wear our left run over you historic cars then most two leaders are drawing away they're just flying through the feet laughs right now on the Loy Allen jr. number 19 as they go into turn one and in a quiet I himself for the moment Jeff Gordon is here about body styles aerodynamics downforce of the new Chevrolet Monte Carlo possibly having a slight edge on the Pontiac in the for common denominator that we can see it right now Hendrick power plants the Hendrick engines they're running first and that is pretty impressive Darrell Waltrip up to 38th position he was in 14th he stays in the lead lap as he hopes for a caution a chance to put Jimmy Hensley in the cockpit of car number 17 back with more in a moment as we come to lap 30 [Music] from the heartland of American stock car racing the 36th annual coca-cola 600 Jeff Gordon with 34 laps now complete 51 miles stays in first and stable right behind them in second place is Bobby Labonte Schrader's third vote on Terry Labonte up into the fifth position Rusty Wallace is now in six that's the young man they're chasing get a NAPA scoreboard here take you down through the field as you watch Jeff Gordon negotiating in the third and fourth corner further back through the field when car slipping off the pace a little they're dropping back to the end as they go into the corner and if that's Jeremy Mayfield's car it's a black machine here it comes out of the corner it's down on the inside not fitting it was up about five spots and just slid back Royale boy Alex wood average speed one hundred seventy six point three mile-per-hour go the record for this race 1993 Earnhardt one of those back-to-back wins Earnhardt's mark was 145 and a half years Earnhardt what came for Sterling Marlin [Music] I'm hungry he's up to 12 now Marvin drops to 13 and Kraven has fallen back and looked at car number 6 Earnhardt had moved around had taken Martin now Martin's trying to take him back in the back straightaway good fight they're back there about the pretty good ways but these boys is right behind the 24 car and pretty well holding their own he's not driving on the way he's got him a little bit of lead right now he's just staying there so I don't know how much how much more he's got laughs this is he's not haul her but traders catching a little bit poor kid kitchen the Bonnies catching up and even to course catching up a business he's just somebody settle down certain speed-- right now to see seeing what that risk of problem the Thunder bat Bill Elliott back there in ninth of black number 94 and they came a move on this race Mark Martin continues to battle for 13th how do you deal with a situation where contact is made between two cars in this type mile and a half track mark you're right on the edge I mean if you're really driving it hard and it touches it all you lose traction you know car slides sometimes it's in fronts I've got to the back usually it's whichever end this is the weakest you know for being hooked up see a lot of that around here boy you pitch off that turn number one's been the one who squeezed him along in the past reburn oh I tell you Charles but a Korean and yesterday we saw we saw out of cars let loose trucks now I wasn't racing yesterday couldn t be stamping when the car is running today other things looking building all of a sudden they just take off I think they have a little bit of trouble here Friday busy practice in this bill I've got three or four cars and you know people say well you know it was just a car under me or behind me or in front of me and all of a sudden they just take off I'd say I think it's because I live the drivers we're just trying to push it to the limit if you're real close to the limit then you know when you lose traction you're pretty much done Mark Martin back there in 13th position let's get a report from the pits on that car look at Squire as the weather has changed here and gone from bright sunny skies to overcast skies many of the crews had chased the weather that's not what happened with Steve Neal he brought the same car he ran last week in the Winston and he has not changed it at all this car is essentially identical to the way they rolled it off to the trailer and Steve says watch us we're going to be just behind today and he is in decline so far well it's a lot of shuffling back here late speed down on the inside with the number 26 hanging it loose on the outside Hut Stricklin who passed for third spot that's Todd Bodine in the number 75 making the weight belt of butch boxcar out here today I tell you we really got a look at Kenny Schrader's Kenny Schrader's um moved up to second he's closing on just look there is Josh Raiders cut it all the way down he was about 15 car lengths back tell you a car that could be in trouble out here is the 11 car your Schrader really closing in down down to about a car two car lengths [Applause] for going right behind here comes at 75 for not very far behind he's going to catch up if they got to racing them who did yeah see if there's anything going down to that 24 car Randy the race is prepared for him the first 10 or 15 laps he was a little tight then the car began to come around to him he said it's now freed up at field neutral the only communication from great ever man back to his driver he just told a book it take it easy set a nice easy pace it's a long long race so we don't know if he's driving traitor is just hauling the mail there you see car number 11 on pit row he just grazed the wall coming off turn four away in that Sylvania number 11 and we have a new leader it's Schrader in the 25 that's taken the advantage Schrader was almost five seconds behind just 18 laps ago he has sure made that mark up Richard yeah he's coming home and do it like I say it I think any fool got out set his pace and stuff got used to spend that speed these other boys had picked up in it they just made this their speed was just a little bit better once the car settle down so Todd Bodine stays third as they come by they're about to put a lap as Rick Hendrick looks on on day Marcus's number 71 there's David fading to the outside that led him through making his 27th started here in the 600 Jeremy Mayfield's number 98 on Road you can show you perhaps what happened to brett bodine here a few moments ago take a look right here and maybe we'll see Brentwood I'd get a little too close up here and turn for ya buddy then you run around on all of a sudden you said what's the ball doing in my group anymore I think that's where he got caught cuz the cars went closing that part was really pushing into the wall or anything sound a wake-up call you really hear that thing and it rattles up against that concrete you don't really hear the sound of it but you definitely can feel it Gordon falling back now todd bodine moves around more in a moment [Music] welcome back live to the Charlotte Motor Speedway Rick Benjamin the STP big communication center for you today on CBS as we watch race leader Kenny Schrader put Jimmy Spencer a lap down and haul it off into turn number one what an update you on something that happened in Indianapolis of course the 79th Indy 500 running earlier today the race won by jacques villeneuve of canada and only his second start at indianapolis bad injuries to veterans Stan Fox from Wisconsin Fox in the first lap of the race apparently something broke on his car need any Cheever hit the wall boxes car shed its nose piece and he flipped down the track a closed head injury for Fox as well as severe leg injuries he is out of surgery we're told he's in intensive care serious condition from Stan Fox our thoughts and prayers are with he in our congratulations to Jacques Villeneuve who won the 500 a couple of hours ago ken Squier indeed they're celebrating up in Quebec right now big time after that brilliant victory by the young Canadian Terry Labonte is number five coming on the pit road Nemechek has pitted Grissom has been in seen Andretti come in as well and dick Berggren is right there in the Hendrick piss bad tire he thought the vibration he has committed in earlier that he would like to have commanded order the cars will be coming here fairly shortly but this is a little bit early drop bad tire problem Parvati on pit road he is a [Applause] spencer is also coming on pitstop was 21 seconds 21 and 1/10 to Parnevik live terry labonte now making his way back on the track at lap 55 I'll tell you what we may get a costume out of off anybody's brave enough to get out there get this tire the racetrack we may have to have a caution Don 8284 caution-free they go so much brave enough to get it I wasn't there be quite great enough with you you wouldn't do that job that tire came off Jimmy Spencer who was just on pit road averaging 175 miles an hour is sticking it out darrell waltrip still in the lead and Steve has an update on that story Ken Jimmy Hensley has had his helmet on since before the race started now Ernie and Richard can elaborate on this the adrenaline must've really kicked in on Darrell he just radio crew chief pete peterson said hey it feels pretty good out there but i don't know if he was talking about himself for the race car he's about to go a lap down right now Darrell in the 26th position Bobby Hamilton on pit road and Michael Waltrip is on pit road as well there's Rusty Wallace in and he's coming back out again Dick Trickle was making his pit stop now this is happening at lap 58 87 miles down stellar be there as he comes in Elton Sawyer is just pitted [Music] Barnard is making his pit stop and it couldn't have come at a better time he has it fired down the jack man the all-pro jack man we have watched so many times on Earnhardt's car today there's only doing the windshield Mike Moore has hundred ways David Smith practicing to do these this is rough work Bernard but [Music] ricky-rock down pit road Dale Jarrett Ricky Craven leader Schrader on pit road visit lap 60 Randy Pemberton is standing by 90 miles are complete Randy Abraham in the crew waiting for the 24 car to command that the 18 car falls as well he's pitting right behind them ran the guys go to work on the right side of the DuPont Chevrolet he's been complaining that the car got real tight in the middle Jeff Burton said but it was loose Bobby the body has said little about his chassis he seems to be quite happy there on the left side for 24 cars likewise on the 18 machine number 24 away as Todd Bodine who had inherited the lead now he is pitted so it's a complete change of the front at 61 laps believe geoff bodine number seven would be given first place here's Mark Martin coming back out Jeff would I now pity so everyone has been on pit road there number 94 very popular prior these days darrell waltrip brings in number 17 let's see if Hensley will step into that car Steve Burns can't Jimmy Hensley is at the ready but I don't think he's gonna get out of the cars I said up Darrell feels pretty good crew goes work on the car he is staying in he will not get out a four-tire stop you will not get out three ribs broken eight days ago on the five-time champion this 600 they built him this armrest to help a little and apparently loosened up killing will better out there get to racing in that barrel right now is at a 17 spot I think he's one lap down and he's going to keep digging right right now with all these pit stops there in that country that lead lack for the moment he comes back out he was just being overlapped by Schrader very quick stop by the Western Auto Group before they got him back on the track so looks like the one that Ben really gained on all these pit stops he's number two for Rusty's backup wants to get settled everybody makes stops he's gonna be in second place so he is he was right behind the 25 or so he really gained a lot of second or third 75 in the 25 okay whatever beneath him yeah he was one it really gained the ground on the racetrack and got himself to him it got him oiling up in there right really a lot closer to what he were showing Schrader now is the lead car and this car number 75 Todd Bodine in second with the Rusty Wallace maintaining a third spot out there and really had a great pit stop of course those people that work they're famous for that [Applause] [Music] you know ken todd bodine is a driver who well a lot of people have been thinking would win one of these Winston Cup events this year this could be his day last Saturday night of the Winston select he blew the field away actually in the open he won the 50 lap Winston open from the back of the field and had the select he really ran very well before running into problems late in the second leg of that event he started 14 today he's up to second his car looks very very fast see Derek cope from the number 12 he's gone a lap down those two leaders coming by Ken Schrader look at that pit time coming up there Richard yeah I told ya I knew he made a real good pit stop he's really good at getting in get anyhow they they don't stay sit still very and he picked up four or five spots on the racetrack the two leaders nose to tail the 25 of Schrader and right with him comes Todd Bodine for comfort [Applause] the Ervin sitting up here this afternoon he's on pins and needles because out at the i-70 speedway in odessa missouri his trucks running has been leading we'll tell you that story later take a look at this move here three wide trickle on the outside okay check on the 24/7 mmm looks like he has a tire down yeah real high one and two he's slowing down coming in to pitch mr. Jeff Gordon on his way in something to miss on car number 24 indeed he is on pit road here he comes down pit road [Applause] Richard oh so rare the guy's going to take a look at he's gonna go a lap down Wow I'll worry about my front Brooks right now what do you say I don't know I did the same thing races good front brakes went out and you never don't use bridge you use the racetrack I wound up somebody's fun in front of and I hit them brakes and I went around and around around sir it's very very unsafe deal he's doing the right thing to trying to work on the phone book I see the Gaul back out now maybe they just told him go out big girl ray Abraham walking back we'll try to get a word from him in a moment they were running seventh when they had this problem and have gone a lap down well they're discussing it over here there was a time that they thought they may have even broken a rotor in the front but I don't believe that's the case we're gonna try and get a word with right here just a second let you know so the discussion is going on in the Hendrick pits for car number 24 the defending champion five straight finishes a third or better will that in today will cease being lapped right now as the 75 and 25 roll by with Todd Bodine now in front ken Schrader in second spot Rusty Wallace third Dale Jarrett fourth and Bobby Labonte fifth lap 72 caution is on the track for the leader at 108 miles Todd Bodine crashes out of turn number two Ward Burton apparently involved as well parts and pieces line all around the mile and a half Charlotte Motor Speedway crowd on its feet dramatic change we expect to see Darrell Waltrip make a driver change here here's what happened what do you think guys know we gotta wait sucked the back end out of the 75 you see him make that little bit of bobble and when he did hit the 31 and that's the way it happens Ward Burton's number 31 up into the wall the 75 of Todd Bodine slithering down to the bottom of the track it takes him out of first place everybody's gonna be on pit road now now they look here Ernie I tell you it really looks like to me like you know just the aerodynamic thing is that what happens in turn one there on the edge and you know it wasn't anybody's fault but um that's that's part of them making it to the end of 600 miles Ward was back in the 36th position when this incident happened no war didn't cut him down enough he was holding his group now a lot of folks watching would wonder how air could move around like that in these cars and and get you so loose let's talk about the hair don't there that new Gramp what happened you got a car and then all the hair is on it and then the other man's got a car with all that on it and all of a sudden like and you seen here would gotten just about a half a car length on him and that meant there was no wind right behind the 31 car so the 75 was trying to catch some winners no in there so he just sucks it in behind the 31 for I tell us one of the best explanations I've heard about it it's a lot of fans ask me says well how does the car suck the air off the spoiler it doesn't really but it eliminate we've got another replay and we can see parts and pieces flying they say here here's what is number 75 Richard you were making the point that this isn't quite as serious in the old days you had those big metal bumpers oh that's one thing he drags this bumper all the way around to the fourth turn comes loose but that's plastic now the fiberglass or whatever and you can run across it now and can't get by a little bit these two if you hit something like that they will take everything all the goodies out from of the car I mean from the front end of the oil pan and then it go back and get the gas tank he just wiped you out so there was no chance we've been them are working on them the brakes and looked like they were kind of on fire so obviously they're having a problem - yeah it's definitely got a problem yeah you know sometimes in the bleeder valve comes loose and those things you know we've had some trouble all 30 years Randy can give us an update on this barbecue Ray Evernham is putting the juice to it from the fire extinguisher that'll be a temporary fix that certainly won't fix it hey guys not only that he's got an engine problem it is flat it was missing they try to fix ignition boxes just of all the problems the last couple laps were Jeff Gordon unreal you remember they they had a problem up there at Richmond I think the last time we were working together they had a problem with some sort of fuel or ignition or something that looks like they've got the same problem here they are back on the track and with following Darrell Waltrip the five-time champion the 600 bringing that car down and I think we're just about ready for this stop and I believe we're maybe a lap away from getting this back underway look it looks like a Jimmie Steve Burns is there dare watch of his being pulled out of the car and this is very painful for him those broken ribs jimmy hensley now jumping in try not to lose too much time Darrell is walking very gingerly he sits down a bit bald on jimmy hensley gets strapped in obviously they're losing a lot of time here in the pits Darrell Waltrip is in a lot of pain you know how hard it is how badly must hurt if he took himself out of this car you saw the reverend max Helton there with him for just a moment there Stevie Walton his wife as well I think what I've had a lot of accidents four legs and the bed is messed up they'll last you all day long and it's nothing Hensley out there will try to get a word with Darrell after a bit let's go to dick Berggren well you were right when you said that just about everybody pitted Ken but one of the cars that did not pit was 25 ken schrader the leader here's his crew chief ken house how come why'd you stay out I might have blown it again but now the cars pretty good right now and it's a long day but it's rather just stay upfront stay out of trouble keep working at traitor working at first place now with Rusty Wallace in second Bobby Labonte in third Ricky Rudd is in fourth Todd Bodine fifth Michael Waltrip six Labonte seventh and Hut Stricklin back there in eighth [Music] maybe the wind in deal yeah sometimes it works for you rather than against that the green came out at laps 77 folks getting racy there's Randy Lajoie down on the inside we're there were taco dine that I've just got to spit it out with gel Tod's cards not bad it's all missing the bumper is off and it's running fifth in fourth is that red car so after that altercation out there that tore that number 75 up Todd believes right back out do that you spin out come in and take your rear bumper off and still always got a car with a wheel off going down the back straightaway let's see who that belongs to that's off Gordon's car the number 24 they say no oh here it is going into turn three going into turn three report Parshin is out obviously had a wheel bearing problem that looks like with Jeff Gordon because no other way that that front tire come up the hub and everything I think still hooked to it that's just the wheel I didn't get the lugs on anyhow they got deep trouble how things are going you got to have the right dried grapes and these is getting all the problem breaks to do Randy you got that right Richard he had no idea it was coming they evidently left the lugs loose on the right front he just came up with a radio said guys I got a bad vibration and that's what happened we'll try and get a word with ray ever be a little busy here for just a moment they don't want to be too conversational at this point so we now have completed 80 laps 80 of completed of the 400 to be run and we'll be back with more ken schrader up in front Wallace in second welcome back to the coca-cola 600 Jeff Gordon the early leader behind the wall a broken hub on the right speculation is possibly he built up from a brake problem and that possibly could have broken the hub wherever him at about nine guys working on they've also broken a couple of suspension pieces as well but they're gonna replace it but just a bad day for Jeff Gordon after running so well early on NASCAR wants to take a look at that wheel that came off they've asked him to take it over to the inspection area there remember he's third in points going into this race they've just picked up that tire and they're bringing that in 17 Waltrip is back in another time with Jimmy Hensley now in the car here Steve Byrnes they decided to come in and change four tires Jimmy Hensley selling the radio I just need to calm down a little bit Darrell Waltrip is standing by actually calling the shots [Music] quit four-tire change on wall switch number 17 and we're trying to get a word with him you see DW there right now back on the radio got his old war face back on yeah he's been serious out they was pitting in the garage area down there beside us and he is really you know he gets up and he was up for this whole deal and then he found out he couldn't couldn't make it and that really really bothered physically and mentally you know he had told me before last week he said I'm going to be ready for jump he did today they both were each said he tried to psych him a little on the start of the Winston's likely according to the biomass class today we've had to start of this race it's gonna happen that by this time Ernie Irvan and out in front is your old buddies freighter with Wallace there bobby labonte third Ricky Rudd fourth Don aligned with Michael six seventh is Terry Hut Stricklin eight Earnhardt up tonight then Mark Martin is intense Morgan Shepherd just outside the top ten and dick trickles would get a lot back plus Rusty Wallace there goes number two and there goes the a-team Labbadia Prue [Music] well it felt so good the last time a field update here for you taking it back through today we also had the 28 car committed the last pit stop they must have knocked something off in the valence or something they were working on a bike rugby in which we're looking at that it'll make him in the back here goes Rusty Wallace by the lap car of a Dick Trickle it looks like and Bobby Labonte staying right there with him it's a Ford and fried a Chevy in second place in black 85 Dick Trickle trying hard keep that but more car up in there laughing not successful that leaves 21 cars in the lead lap but there's Bobby Labonte trying to shoot the gap coming down the main straightaway got it Kenny Halden Rusty's probably let him go what's he gonna be there he's gonna pick on them all day look up he's gonna be writing either print up and right behind they don't have any problem I'd say I haven't seen Rusty Wallace is pumped up in line he's ready and he kept I've got more motor this week than I've ever had before not ready to do something to 1990 winter Wallace fighting with bobby labonte the youngster and for sure the defending champion has been kayoed from this one jeff gordon knocked out early [Applause] down to the inside of taqwa 9 where he had him todd bodine comes right with him car the gun will shaking up in front of them I think we're so joy the 22 car coming down this net when I did that black car like he had a handful out of turn two up to six five moves Earnhardt Padma night respected 3034 Todd were times when I'm buy-in and trying to go to back to the lead here looks like working the ninetieth left [Applause] laughs Tom will die [Music] quite some others to this beer Mark Martin coming along very nicely thank you that's kind of how Todd got into trouble last time is a scrapping it with somebody else didn't learn did it I didn't let her that good maybe figured he just got caught last time he can try to go yeah but he's young Todd Pettengill and me and Richard was sitting here and we've been through that done that usually do and you want to do it again it's not that I don't want to do it I just can't do it dick Berggren down there with a crew chief on card 75 well the whoop-dee-doo that pods what I did cook about the lead was the second accident he's had so far the first was in practice and he called that one his own fault and you'd go into the garage on Thursday you'd have found todd bodine hammered away at the fingers working on that car trucks over and crew chief for that car number 75 how's it going can he overcome this action oh yes without a doubt Todd the experience that he's got in the Busch Series the way they wham at them there he's probably the only driver out here the back bumpers fix it off that car Bodine is giving it a great ride he's covering this guy aqua dine in seventh place driving for butch locked in Butch Mach won this race in 1980 with the great one [Applause] all right up to six position remember that we saw him start 34th in that Chevy today r75 really getting loose that time as it came down the main straightaway and now it is it looks like it's no bigger trouble than it was before he's got some trouble it was entire stupid idiot fire 75 you have to bring that in Marland scooting under him at Morgan Shepherd clobbered the fourth turn now you can see it's been up some more over there obviously he could drive it like what the problem is is sooner or later accountable see gotta hit the wall with outside he thought the householder just eight things it's that that's what looks like what's good it looks like it's running crooked down the straightaway to Hut Stricklin there's Rick mass going beneath him down to a tail end of that lap don't have a checks 87 the Burger King car right there wild racing here as we get through 95 laughs let's take a look think we can see what happened to the 75 up here in turn four on this mile and a half track looks like he's too hot there he hit pretty hard since Bodines seem to have a infection for that fourth turn I tell you what I mean you know nothing against awkward on or any of the other drivers the intensity of this race just takes effect and you know that's that's the problem so psyche that dick Berggren is down there well the crew is going to work on the right-hand side of the car can that's where the majority of damage is that the rear bumper is missing there's a little bit of damage to the left rear one of the crew members now pulling the fender away from the left rear tire pod bowtie going down a lap here in the pits unscheduled pit stop tough break he had such a good run twenty-two and eight ten seconds number 75 back on the Speedway at lap number 97 here in the coca-cola 600 at Charlotte North Carolina we'll be back with more we've had one caution thus far in the race would tell you about that and about the battle for the lead when we return [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] steal aerial camera giving us these pictures of the Charlotte Motor Speedway and we still don't have enough altitude to get that helicopter up that carries the equipment for the onboard cameras take a look at this you watch the battle for six spot Earnhardt and Martin side-by-side in turn number one and it is lead on for six Martin tried to take it away another Ford Chevy confrontation here you can see her not having to work a little there off turn two he went into turn three right then Mark is going in there real gingerly he knows that if he goes in there side by side his car is going to get real loose in the master at that to make somebody lose his day long and he knows that that's what's gonna happen so walk swim in there and make stable let's get back is there anybody you wouldn't rather race with Mark Martin I mean you know monks here to give you it give you every amount of track indeed he will consider a person and he wants to win Ernie Irvan won't tell you how considerate mark is but when Ernie was so hurt every night was a Winston Cup race the following day marked the flight out of the hospital tell Ernie who with that that's what you got yeah it's a vegetable friend like that he spent a lot of time in the hospital [Applause] [Music] here he is Mark Martin fighting to get himself another victory and [Music] their luck around this year because he comes after Dale that's the sixth place battered bobby labonte stays up in front with ricky rudd right there in a second and Wallace and forgive top runners in the moment so you get a sense of where they are on the Speedway Earnhardt beginning to draw off just a little bit there's the group just behind Morgan Shepherd back there in seventh number 21 Sterling Marlin in that very familiar yellow and red kodak car he's running in ninth and then Hut Stricklin right in there in the 26 these cars trail the leaders or the leader er by about nine seconds [Applause] the terry labonte car packed in the lead look at the spot started 13th today here's 75 tot behind which Todd came in and pitted they just change tires they really fixed the problem so it's gonna have to be something and Jack the weary and over a little bit with dick Berggren can add to that we've got no radio transmission that they've got a broken pan our car well not impossible to drive the car with one of those things and they'll almost certainly have to come in and do some significant work to fix it caution is out around the track at lap 107 yellow is down caution is out again as we see the 75 that Lee batters haven't started coming on pit road he's at the wall again 108 laps officially he's pretty much theoretical he's done for the days and to be out there getting points in that's about it 160 and a half miles by written a few that looked like that Richard yeah but not leaning too but we didn't want to it was just like he said you just out there to be out there you know and the way the points are you know you try to get just as many as I can come on I went to the Albany Saratoga Speedway years ago and watched you run up on that's what a 4/10 track or something and your car looked a little worse than that but you still want that's sort of a standard deal there I tell you what if you really think about it very few their car goes into Victory Lane that's even got a scratch on so you know that's that's the things Bobby the Bonnie's out there right now and his car doesn't have a scratch on it if he keeps that up all day he's gonna be tough to beat that certainly was a case at Nazareth Pennsylvania in that Grand National race they tore everything up but the track itself in that one and Tim Fedewa came through and totally understand even have a black mark didn't ever arc on it did a great job help me raise the view one Richard that's uh your car has been all beat to death I mean there's been song I can say most most of the time you're the only one on the race track if you win you don't want a race track it's not got black mark that's the reason you want a lot Oh all the leaders on pit road dis at lap 109 Rusty Wallace is into the pit area he is going to try to tighten the car up that is a bit of a surprise yesterday in the Grand National race no fire was too tight but here they're going to add some more to tighten it up Grady Pemberton well the 18 car Bobby Labonte is already down on the way they took one pound of air out of the left rear tire he beats Rusty Wallace down pit road Wallace came out very quickly right up to speed to get it up to speed [Music] filled back out of the turn [Music] bill Elliot come back out with the number 94 20 cars still the lead lap and will set the field for you when we return in the third caution of the day at lap 111 with bobby labonte in front or a Rusty Wallace and second all the leaders have pitted and we can get more on the complexion of race by going down and talking now they're going to wave that we're going to Randy Pemberton right now yeah that was a tremendous break for Kenny Schrader's he was going to have the pit around lap one swanee anyway so Kanna gave him a free stop he's back out there running fifth pretty good race from our standpoint down here so the number two car finds itself right up in here they continued to massage that thing you surprised make his car better one lap and they come by this time and they'll start you see Earnhardt in six let me take you a little further back Shepard in seventh Martin and ade Strickland ninth Marlin tenth Dale Jarrett 11th Terry Labonte 12th Robert Pressley 13th Bobby Hamilton in 14th Brett Bodine 15th then Lake speed Ricky Craven back to 17th Bill Elliott 18th Jeff Burton and rounding out the top 20 Rick mast is on the tail end and they are all reported in that lead lap one lap to green and here's dick Berggren interesting strategy working out down here on pit road ken Squier trailer Goodyear has brought a new more conservative tire here this is not a tire war tire and we are discovering today it does not fall off very much in fact it falls off less than a second a lap in an entire fuel stop so on that last round Michael Waltrip just took to remember as well this race last year was won by Jeff Gordon taking just two tires when Rusty Wallace took four tire strategy will be very important to today's race leader Bobby Labonte had the pole on the Winston select he qualified second today and he is very with Joe Gibbs Racing I feel like we're a good team growing together and for just ten races into the season with them with interstate as a sponsor and they've been in it for a long time I mean they're excited and and I know I'm excited so yeah I feel like once we grow more and more it'll just get better and better 11th and points just one point behind Morgan Shepherd as they came to this Sun 600 today Jeff Gordon he's back out he was in the garage area 23 minutes 18 seconds from Jeff Gordon back on the track 35 laps down we're at lab 1:13 third caution of the day in the coca-cola 600 Labonte up to speed and Wallace coming after Michael Waltrip having a good day so far still looking for that first win sandwiched in between them a couple of lap cars there's Dick Trickle and Jimmy Hensley and I saw a little smoked out of seven tangency good to see that could be might have been trickle yeah Hensley in the number 17 the gander here Trickle going hi a little whisper spoken here comes Wallace Wallace on the March tears down the warpath in the back straightaway and he's in the first place methods for change on the spoiler [Music] less spoiler in the rear and a quarter-inch higher on the front air dam the hordes of got 1/4 inch I tell you it looks like as lopsided his occur well as a testament to that he got a Ford Chevy in a Pontiac one two three out there the president michael waltrip sticks it on the bottom goes under trickle in the 15-year comes later in the 25 in fourth place and along when it comes Ricky Rudd and fit back up in front Bobby Labonte not willing to give up on car number two Wallace I tell you you know rusty right now it has got a lot missed the date the Indianapolis 500 and I know Rogers probably here right now watching it in the condo and you know our hats off to you for being being such a Rusty Wallace is lead after you saw the tobacco the America's Cup in that salyanz' to look at this battle up front as they go side by side I'll tell you the dignity and grace Willis Roger Penske lose to the defending champion of the race as well as Emerson Fittipaldi boy I thought that said a lot to the entire sport we didn't try to change the rules didn't try to do anything just accepted it and went on with his life and in your right in fact he should be here right about was taking care of some sponsored commitments into these when a quiet down here to see if the number two car out of the Penske stock car stable could win this 36th annual $1,400,000 600 mile race right now Rusty Wallace has got his hands full twenty-nine-year-old bobby labonte who looks terrific after I tell you what I don't think Roger Penske's gonna take that in the bank he's got a definitely will [Music] and he took total responsibilities it is my deal my cars and I made the mistake I can't get over that guy I tell you what they plant dudes from racing right here guys I mean you know talk about Indy but we got a heck of a race going right here and then they they look like ass Elias laughs they really run an 80 to 120 laps complete at Charlotte and you're watching car number 25 Schrader the in third Michael Waltrip back to fourth yeah we do I'm not normally up in the booth so how many laps is this works oh it's about 400 400 laps we still got a ways to go of course he was here at puppy's track they might change that before the things over that's true help me sit why don't we the Mark Martin in Adele jail now girl Jairus he had that unscheduled stop jimmy hensley giving it his all and said Dale Jarrett talking down inside of car number 26 Mark Martin back in 9th position car number six [Applause] they take our breath there that's a great shot I'd say it's a great shot to see that back up in front look at this three-way scrap Rusty Wallace and Kenny Schrader now they both have a hangar together right up right up here at the Concord Airport so I'm sure shredders not gonna bump in the truss he's not gonna block oh sure yeah right here turn for me this boy those to race hard here they come traitor to the inside Wallace on the outside they keep on praising like a horse will be right up there he's right to her backer about six right now right behind these four cars windows traders going to give them the thumbs up well there you see all six cars in together though right poor guy and trader lost his gun up in a truck race the other day he didn't lose his thumb at a truck Lata's his thumb with his hand underneath the hood that he heard he shouldn't be doing it he knows that a tow truck yeah [Music] you do it at Roque there everything horse then got a couple up here yes I told you when they get some inside beside and he don't slow it and he'll be he'll be three wide here they'll be 2/3 look at him look he's up to third man yeah and Wallace back into the lead attitude this is lap 124 a little bit of stuff going on again to Boston because there was some beating and banging Winston and rusty didn't like it Dale thought it was funny so if you come out over windy that's always good there's ken schrader putting the heat on Wallace again 187 and a half miles complete Wallace Schrader Earnhardt one two three just behind them michael waltrip rut the body in sterling Martin all in a single line though a sheet on all of them that's why stock car racing is so good the first started race they all got separated is it medicine please duel then all of a sudden here's eight cars racing through the lead yeah and look where they are at only 126 laps back to the inside Schrader looks inside of Earnhardt he took off part of that bump working on his super truck Schrader it was it was big it seemed like about ten seconds I'm sure it was just a couple seconds but it wouldn't go because it was up against the bracket the belt kept turning over the pulley kept cutting it from the bottom and then it was like okay I just gotta wait a second because it's going to be breezy easy for everything right yeah like you see it it sounds funny now but it wouldn't look at that Oh see now that I don t there was a little bit of stuff now look rusty some ball batted the wall guard made a made a FUBU 30 cars get back righto third and going to fourth and now in the fifth goes Marlin we got 15 lead changes already today we started coup d'etat yellow nuns took the lead for the first time today and Schrader's not gonna put up with it he's gonna try to get back to the lead your Schrader looking onto the inside of Dale Earnhardt ricky rudd up in there now boy those world changes seem to have really made the difference but he's in there pretty good together here comes straighter down to the inside to take a look at this moment Wallis leading looks like once he just got his little bit loose what he did he made a little bit of Marikina the core right that close to him just loosened his core up just so lil DK more delicate but just enough that he moves out that they could cook for the lead it's still Earnhardt Schrader Rudd Michael Waltrip [Applause] there's nothing to give up people he's had a really bad couple weeks here Charlotte during one of the practice sessions lady there was the Mafia and practice on for the med student wall fun he wrapped another car he had a car that he was in Winston and three cars in three weeks and Kenny Schrader's in and a half athan so but he's ready to go he sure is he's down our trying it that's for sure yeah so uncle Lenny mother there he goes later back in at another time and this time he regains the lead I'll tell you that that that power cliff there's the old Earnhardt movie patented move right there Schrader ain't going to leave it up I see when our heart makes that move it's not unmarked doing it there's the other man making a mistake and a heartache exactly what he did not to Barnard definitely when he turns down from the outside to the inside that dis aughtta matically takes the air off the car in the front and gets the car in front Lucic slows it down just catonian but you don't see that many people ready to stick it back down in there Earnhardt always there's all sticking it in four of five of them all michael waltrip on the bottom run upon the outside back there for Sterling Marlin v Rusty Wallace six and look at this duel for the lead all makes of all cars in the pond [Music] doing some bad Richard you factor in 17th slowing down the back straightaway and he may be pitting stayed right here with this battle for the lead back to the stripe Bernhardt in crime Ken Schrader who's tried so many times to win this race is 11th start came to finish second 1991 behind Davey Allison the Ricky Rudd story Steve Byrnes has after the last pit stop see one up the wall Don just of all the car number 94 that's Bill Elliott and he has sucked the wall hard Batmobile running in 18th position bill Elliott's number 94 the fourth caution of the afternoon lap 134 [Music] getting ready to clamber out taking off the steering wheel is Bill Elliott in the McDonald's car we'll take a break come back and show you what happened here at the Charlotte Motor Speedway to Bill Elliott back at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with 136 laps complete and under a yellow condition again first man off pit road was Michael Waltrip and three others also beat Earnhardt on the under the track and we'll give you that story in a moment Ernie Irvan Richard Petty alongside let's look again and see if we can discern what happened to car number 94 here he's already in the wall I talked to the spotter I was making a pit stop myself and I talked with the spotter from billets they said he cut a tire down could have run something over running the tail under the lead lap the thunder bat has its wings clipped here this afternoon I'll tell you you know Bill Elliott was one of the cars and in practice that looked real real good you don't hate to see it for him part of racing first year is an owner driver not very auspicious for Billy I don't think it's the first year well kind of the current curlers that's right back to your back back here 76 is the first time he's here then now this is I'm not so sure but what but his dad pretty much it snapped about the same I was in that family-owned business deal yeah brother down at one year dated on the urban steel PD Enterprise on I think wasn't going to do let's go to Rick Benjamin well can't we saw quickly some in-car pictures from bill Elliott's Thunder bad as you said so artfully his wings were clipped he laid down some special effects parks down into turn one we want to show you the other end car cameras we have for you here tonight in the SDP but communications center Ron board with mark Barden is Valvoline Ford we had trouble getting our helicopter up in the air because of the weather conditions here today but we are flying and that means we can bring you these pictures mark Barton had close to the head of the show Bobby Hamilton and Richard Petty's STP Pontiac Ron board with Bobby this afternoon Jeff Bodine has taken us along for a high-speed ride at his Exide for today and Jeff is right behind the pace car so he may have to restart lean as we get ready to go back green here just and we're going to also be able to take you on board with Ted Musgraves and the Family Channel Ford out of the Roush stables we're looking actually out the back bumper area of Musgraves car back at Mike Wallace's Judy Don living Ford so those are the car cameras that we have for you there we take a look at Ted to the visor up hand out the window and just kind of taking things easy at the moment in car number 16 and hoping to get to the front of things here at the Charlotte Motor Speedway when we get back to green ken Squier under 20,000 folks bought every seat there was months in advance to see this 600 hey we can look at that Bill Elliott incident from inside the car from number 94 gentlemen here's how it looked to Bill Elliott fool it happens that quick I was in it it does feel just like that - I know you've never had that out but never had probably not that exact location oh yeah no I'll tell you the same thing Sam I thought a beer came out I hit when I'm third one to 600 just run along her all by yourself and bam all you said then to walk yeah cuz I don't think that what happened there he just like he said his shoes there he's just run along and bam that's it that's how quick gonna happen let's go to dick Berggren Rusty Wallace just had a terrible pit stop kid twenty five and a half seconds the problem Paul van der lands airgun broke Billy will burn right now is working on it they're trying to get it apart even though screws on this thing don't want to come apart so they can try to fix it will burns going to do the best he can he's a good sprit car race you're like be able to fix anything well the captain will will have new guns down there for the next one you can be sure I'm telling you know there's probably new guns this time you know you just can't know Rusty's had a lot of trouble and lug nuts dick they've probably make their own lug nuts Oh get the best is Rusty Wallace in you're on board with Mark Martin who is in fifth the front of the field Michael Waltrip Sterling Marlin Ricky Rudd Dale Earnhardt and mark well they got the light on for Jeff but I'm here in the Exide battery car number seven and want him on pit road for a stop and go out there and he seems like he was speeding on pit road is what they're saying to tell you about that thirty third positions where he is right now and that's where he's been a lot of here this and it's not getting any better here in the 600 look at this struggle 30 and 4 by the way hints leaves darrell waltrip number 17 we're showing it back in the lead line he's just leaving he's just that close to being Italy I play bass in fact his plan good start in 30 michael waltrip leading Marlins second run third Earnhardt fourth day Arabia and you can probably hear us I wonder if from michael waltrip allah took two powers of [Applause] Rand if you get an opportunity good Michael only take on a couple of tires is the question from Ernie Irvan there's the battle for the lead alerting the answer is this time around michael waltrip took took four tires the time before that he took just two so he's on for freshman's right now and it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference in speed as to whether he's taking four or two and this had a great pit stop that crews never been the one that normally gets Michael's uh struggled a lot of use but man he's really doing it today tensley hanging top in the 17 trying to stay in that lead lap he's been on the outside now for the last three laps and he's getting a little help at the moment from Sterling Marlin Michael Waltrip down the bottom slipping back a spot from the lead right there you see bobby labonte will be [Applause] here comes Marlon down to the inside now pretty good outside to the inside behind you in in for the ride that for car has been tough here they come back with this really good with a Darlington or $1.00 in with so sterling Marlins I'm gonna be tough all over we saw theirs from his picture of watching us on TV [Applause] satellites fourth time this year that's to carry those colors up into leading reviewing a little further back Schrader is six Mark Martin is seventh Dale Jarrett eight Strickland night ten terry labonte hangs 11th Craven is 12 then in 13th Robert Pressley so those two rookies that are tied at 106 points each are in there even Stephen in the race - I tell you here comes on traitor was really coming [Music] Jaclyn I'm here just in front of him Steve Grissom in the 29 the 13 spot back up in front [Music] checking up at the moment is Sterling Marlin he's drawn away by about 20 car lengths two or three we see some of the interval there for a moment between sterling 120th before Ricky rod into ten there's that interval blazing down this main straightaway this tri-oval shape on this track how many turns do you consider you run around I guess you know you could actually get the front straightaway as um being two turns and to turn traitor about six months grab the racetrack like it you drive the racetrack like it's just a Big Bend pull back down to one and you just make one why just about make one corner one curve in every time go in an arc and wind up in the right place down and number two like to playing to be right and that's that's depth will you do it sister trick it straight away and lights are on at Charlotte Motor Speedway you start seeing the cars that have some reflection start whistling now yeah they do they're looking faster now it does it looks turn the lights on but it always did on any short track he went to he would see in the amp duel we got trouble going into turn one the number two car Rusty Wallace has slammed into the wall on in turn one he's wiped out he did that right under the car Roger Penske Zack had all of us winter let's say that that had something to do with what he didn't then that poor didn't worry me was right in front of that 43 that's the finish that always bothers me with that feel like it well there's rusty Wallace's car number two dragging itself back to pit road at lap 152 after hits front the first turn wall [Music] fifth caution of the day after Rusty Wallace socks the wall going into turn number one how fast you go in there oh you know probably about a hundred ninety five miles an hour here he is oh he got tagged yeah big-time that's what I was telling ya the way that car was wrecked I told you on the break I said something else has happened you know it wasn't just a trusty hit the wall I don't really know what car it was a good season oh okay look like rusty had to had to let off the throttle for a 15 and looks like I wasn't that Cravens car no no it looks like three car Presley's 33 car let's go to dick Berggren what happened got hit the rear end comes in a tribal the car was really running good running great a matter of fact about Aragon broke broke on us and last pit stop it got me waiting the back charging back to the front and also know I'm coming to trial next thing you know I'm in the rear I got hitting rearing and flying down the straightaway backwards so that's just racing cars torn up badly it's in the garage tough one for Rusty Wallace out of this race it almost it almost looked like rusty had to lift because the 15 car had another problem with something and rusty had slowed down and the 33 car you do this bobble everybody's living the same speed let's take a moment now and look forward to another Winston Cup race upcoming this year here on TBS we've just gone green lapped 156 234 miles complete Mark Martin has jumped out in front Morgan Shepherd is now second after this pit stop for the Rusty Wallace crash Ricky Rudd third Earnhardt fourth on the restart the 90 car looks like he's trying to get a lot back in Shepards own racing bill Marquardt for the lead I think Mark Martin only put two tires on Mike Wallace colleague Myers car number 90 up in front for the moment arrived with Mark Martin slide back a little here Ricky Rudd making the move to the inside taking second Martin back to third Earnhardt stays right in there if they continue to switch positions up in front of this restart going to little further back in the field Dale Jarrett six michael waltrip seventh trader is eight Bobby Labonte ninth Terry Labonte in 10th Lake speed 11th Craven 12th Mike Wallace who was leading in the Grand National race yesterday and came to naught but crashed out of that race the Chad little one 18th position tail end of that lead lap things they stay ahead of a much longer because on their their color Morgan Shepherd now in the lead at Mark Martin they each took two tires ten different leaders so far in the race the 600 record is 16 different leaders in this event back in 88 [Applause] this is a real competitive race I mean it's a most competitive that was to cut rates we've been ricky rudd getting hung out to dry on the inside here goes comes down outside that's this group with Marlon and here comes Dale Jarrett beginning to move 28 car yeah I tell you this is our first chance to see Dale Jarrett up in the front still the number knighting is made of that lap stays 18th on the field just in front of the leader Morgan Shepherd Earnhardt 2nd Marlin 3rd Jarrett to 4th and Michael Waltrip having a great day back into fifth position here's Ricky Rudd up on the outside of him in the number 10 car just outside of that group comes bobby labonte night on board or the Mark Martin you really began to get a sense of those lights and playing even more Rolle here comes Bobby Labonte wheeling up the outside around doesn't act like that to tire chain [Applause] here we are three wide and they got back that time yeah so Shepard let's put the Wood Brothers board back in the lead he had started 10th on the day and Earnhardt you're just joining us started in 34th and he's now welcome second riches you're shaking your head on that one I'm just a kid just watching this race and watching that many people that close after this far in the race and they're racing like there's no tomorrow you know I mean which is great you know I mean I mean I know all them feel good about it and it's great to watch you know from that simple this like Ernie said well this is what Winston Cup racing is all about just winning can't run side by side to my pace and you don't just let them go you go back you get a chance you pacing back and it's just back and forth back and forth 17 cars remain the lead lap Jeff Gordon in and out several times let's go to dick Berggren well Mark Martin took just two tires on that last round of pit stops Ken Steve Baylor said what caused the car to drop back only two freshmen five points for later it's kind of a handful on hot hot left's and cold rice but it'll be okay after a while we'll be fine these guys are really cool and watch them about 200 lat somewhere around lap 390 well if they're cool this group here certainly isn't right there I tell you Federation these guys are cool they're they're really standing well again I think these drivers are drying this hard this early of the race because the main thing everybody's want to leave and everybody's want to prove through their sponsored that they're doing a good job at the man that's leading hard country I'd say every day in Delaware they pay for the end but he thinks they pay forever laughing that's that's just his philosophy run the lap he was believed take a look at this move as Dale Jarrett sinks his teeth in and goes after Morgan Shepherd like sizes so he picked his way through that's the they got the working in the PS you got even a little bit thanks believers kind of make it by Pepsi's looks like he's taking two cultures he didn't just drive him down under that men cause he knows that back in to take out the big isn't that right that makes all of that for second place has Earnhardt leaves Sterling Marlin back to second Dale Jarrett falls back to third Rudd is in fourth just behind him Schrader Waltrip Terry Labonte wach Martin just on the tail end of that group and holding ninth [Applause] and continue to shuffle those positions Martin picking up a little steam here upfront there's the integral between first and second as Earnhardt tries to win it again [Music] earn height first violence second ricky rudd the third ken schrader right after him in fourth position and the 28th that had been running in fourth position at lap 170 were now at 173 going behind the wall there his word began to slow down instead smoke in there it looks like something like a new hood you say they got some kind of dick Berggren can tell us more the problem can is a right rear hub that has apparently almost completely seized up what Jarrett came down pit road to be sure of what it was Larry McReynolds actually jumped over a good wall way up the pits and lay on his stomach on pit road to see what had happened right now NASCAR I just told them move the car forward the Grendel's is unhappy about that they want to make this change as quickly as they possibly can that just lost some more time Jarrett a heartbreaker losing the right rear hub after leading the race 175 laps complete 262 miles this time by I tell you just don't really it's got to be something you know a little bit different I mean you know Richard the the pieces are made so well now that don't all of a sudden lose me yeah like you say that's found that you will lose one mm the deal is everything is so precise it every raise they change all the Barons and all this - and all it takes is just one little stage one piece of dirt anything and that thing and then it wipes itself out and probably what happened in history dick Berggren well I got a question for her to Europe and Ernie this is the same car you drove in the fall of 1993 here led all but six laps went on to win the race remember that day here at Charlotte I tell you I remember that day I took Jeff Gordon I bet I bet him the other night that he couldn't lead as much in 600 lap 600 miles that I led in 500 miles so obviously he's not going to do know he's buying your beer right he's 35 laps down he's back out on the track and Gordon is being shown position right now that's all that was all just in fun you know I mean Jeff were talking and that was a great day for us what I did a year ago two years ago or whatever race going indeed right at the moment we've got Sterling Marlin closing in on Earnhardt for first place I think what I've been time in these cars and it really doesn't make any difference who's leading the race they're going to have the same speed but you can tell that by looking at the group it's just you know 10 to 15 cars staying pretty much where they're at the deal is just that they all run in the same speed and it's just too early gets the right tires makes a better pitch coughing though that's in position I tell you that's what I saw yesterday in practice I mean pocket cards a lot of cars that were [Applause] thirty fifty thirty sixty just all time they'll be there twenty thirty docks and that's what what you're saying is in the top 10 143 point 1 up there at the average speed for the race present time and we're beginning to hone in on halfway 180 laps of 200 complete Gordon is coming back on pit road another time his game he's still out there trying to score points and stay up in the standings but he's well back and off the pace last year's champion Jeff Gordon having trouble early Earnhardt from way back in the field nobody's come from further back from 20th right now he's come from 30 the Excite batteries car number seven when I'm back in 29th spot [Music] get himself any race these days attention put on some truck and second today that drives his truck the Yankee gasps yes and Joe Ruttman is where you're going forward for you let for a while today when I came up here to the booth that we were but they don't pay for that [Music] that how they're paying off give me every stir dinners we raised out in California a race for pretty much any maintaining race was to win didn't worry about whether what it was paying that that's the difference between racers and non-racial run pictures read for winning not there very long since we've done every day every week bernetta the main buildings are so competitive see Musgrave out there running just in front of that pod I'm Clark bovine is being shown two laps down Musgrave up there old from side-by-side again up in front here Schrader at it with rut for third spot [Applause] samus great in that picture a moment ago he is being shown 20 lap down and Jeff will dying [Music] and it is not we were talking about racing doesn't matter what it pays I mean Kenny Schrader's one of them they were sit or showing it right he's one of them it'll gonna race for whatever weather app and turkeys anything Kenny Schrader's likes to race it shows it went for five days a week if they got a racetrack he's like probably Alice's if they got a race track people be there if he's got a car he'll barrio court and they make sure he gets in place the brett bodine car stays just on the tail end [Music] second squad going to second schraeder back to second he must have heard me tell him that they was gonna pay for turkeys or something give me the thumbs-up going by yeah middlee that's about as big of leaders at all well Gordon had to leave like that in the first 20 or 30 laps didn't or towel add something [Music] Schrader's whose last wins back in 91 Dalton long and as good as he 20 regular data this is one of the places he really runs good at and it's one of the think of before Dover this one is the place to see more and that 30 car michael waltrip looking for that first win [Music] anyway here here is just looking for a good finish deep do you guys believe in numbers if you believe in numbers Sterling Marlin won his first race in number 279 this is racing number 279 Michael Waltrip in tractor they got one mind in like seventies [Applause] [Music] well that was that further back to there man try 1959 electric 60 richard won his first race in 1950 we'll talk about numbers talk about Jeff bodean here for a moment he tries to move under Brett Bodine who was running 15th with car number 11 you've seen them two before Yeah right we're going to take a break and be back we're at lap 189 folks in the coca-cola 600 as Earnhardt is where he so often is we're back with you up to 600 and Ken Schrader is just assumed to lead he swept around Earnhardt in number three to go back up in front the Chevy's are running first and second take a look at this pass that made the difference get Schrader that leave just motored on by voted on by motor right down in the corner and then moved up in terms of what they didn't show it albany had moved up cool Earnhardt deal yeah but he cut off Earnhardt's traditional move to come back down he held him right in there that's where they stay right now and rut closes up in third coming to halfway this is a whole lot like in Talladega they mean time you get there and you get two cars side by side to catch up quick this is the first time I've really ever noticed some catching up that quick at at Charlotte but they didn't really when sot jeff gordon has now stepped out of the car back in the garage area he has retired from the event I believe we're waiting for the official word from NASCAR that they've packed it in on car number 24 I tell you Richard then I noticed that the last couple of days way more effective than it ever has it at Charlotte I was listening to the radio yesterday he kept saying it's never been a deal the draft has always been something you can look at it right here guys here is Jeff Medina the seven just in front of him the sixteen of Musgrave in 23rd and you can really see it happening out to Ryan he's really coming on a boat then when they come off the corner he's probably going to pull off [Applause] I had a little trouble with my 43 car there I see slow down running around he's been running pretty good you know 12th 15th all day long like he's coming in for some kind of difficulty and I doubt if they can fix it 13th the position he was in as he brings it on to pit road Bobby Hamilton bringing in number 43 everything looks alright Richard doesn't slow down it's got a bad vibration how do they get lucky with it same lap with him just gonna put him a lap down always let's make enough to try it five harder two laps to halfway [Applause] and Bobby Hamilton back on the way the STB Pontiac [Music] speedling that on pit row [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Sterling Marlin Michael Walter [Applause] tear it up on there they're all for running nose just took him right on fourth fifth six members 164 as we come to 200 board has led 27 and Pontiac nine they'll add something as best advance they see us as a positive group at Michael Waltrip real racing in that number it still Schrader win the league ken Schrader out and trotted halfway in the second spot of his Earnhardt move inside of Sterling Marlin [Applause] sterling fading back michael waltrip picking up another spot and here comes Terry Labonte [Applause] [Music] kyle petty down at the inside running a couple of laps maybe three down now back in 30th position look looks like Ricky Rudd is just about to run I'm gonna pass him would be in and Shepherd right back up and what a good year Shepherds having 70 points for the Winston Cup Series with good consistent wire [Applause] was that third down at all captain up in the top 10 been in and out Robert Pressley has had an unscheduled stop [Applause] forty-two car I was three back out that he just coming out Robert Pressley has come back on the track come to halfway in the 36 n he will coca-cola 600 and Ken Schrader has the advantage Earnhardt's in second and Ruud Bobby Labonte Michael Waltrip Terry Labonte and Sterling Marlin all running together with Morgan Shepherd then maybe the schedules doctors wanna car start the pit [Applause] the flag pit stops they should be coming up soon folks 204 laps have been completed five cautions thus far in the race with total of 23 laps I'll give you a complete halfway to run down shortly now coach Ricky Rudd was a chase Dale Earnhardt down and pass him and Schrader's just not cops run with a vengeance in that Thai car [Music] so it's Schrader Earnhardt and rut the top three in the 600 as we come to halfway back with the second half after this hey race fans Budweiser asks who won may 28 1989 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway series championship contender Rusty Wallace in his pontiac 227 and car number seven the four two pole sitter Alan Kulwicki showed plenty of early muscle in the 600 mile Oh Gerald Waltrip came to Charlotte as the defending race champion but a broken sway bar bracket threatened to knock the 17 car very colorful this year out of contention other drivers fighting for the victory included the five car of Jeff behind the Budweiser car driven by Terry Labonte but who won is the list of contenders the answer after the break with a little patience Darrell Waltrip scored his fifth 600 mile victory on this day but also helped DW was the demise of other top contenders Rusty Wallace with a blown motor finished only 31st and after leading the most laps pole sitter Alan Kulwicki also lost an engine and lost his chance to win Waltrip Spath was now clear he had to overcome his on track deficit from those earlier problems but he did that handling winning his fourth victory of the year seventy seventh overall in Winston Cup competition who won is brought to you by Budweiser for that clean crisp cold taste nothing pizza bud steel area camera giving you this great view with the Charlotte Motor Speedway where Ken Schrader is continuing to lead at lap 212 we're working the 212th lap at the present time putting the lap on Brett Bodine we just saw Grissom on pit road Musgrave was just pitted we saw Rusty Wallace come back on the track that was at lap 211 there you see him where the front end taped up [Applause] that car that sent him spinning into the first turn wall then punched the nose the night he is in Mike Wallace 17 tensely pitting six car six party against the ninth place car Mark Martin and the 33 is also in Rick mast is in number one there there book for Tyler's in one point is yeah they figured another deal with the way to go right it didn't work for cars in [Music] and Gordon is backed out again remember we saw him out there chatting a while ago he's back in the race another time well over 40 laps down Ricky Craven just fitting car 41 he's running in tenth position here comes own home in the pits leader coming on pit road Oh had to lock him up because the 27 car was gonna turn in front of him 27 cars running legal speed limit down to there in the hood with the right side getting better and better as the year goes on two cans of gas going in second one already the Pawnee engines down on the way kick in two new men saw the leading Pontiac come in that was Michael Waltrip the leading Chevrolet and the leading Gordon still Ricky Rudd at number 10 now here's straight Schrader overall leader in the race that will push rod up into the lead he that meant a second ricky ride pledged to run almost spun the guys go to work on the Budweiser Chevy the nerving a track car adjustment on this bar he's trying to get this car tighten up just a little bit right now already on the left-hand side there goes there the wrench goes in to make the track bar adjustment to turns a wrong Oh Schrader's team see Randy Ricky run pulling off of the road he just read it into his crew he said I think I have a right front tire going down the crew is very excited that the stuff they've done better away Bobby Labonte has inherited the lead in car number 18 Lake speed and 9 is up to second I tell you see the way Schrader and then made a track bar adjustment they can do that in the pits now they have a weight technical that hooks to the track bar and they can go up and down with it it takes about eight or ten rounds to actually make up no Gibbs number 18 G's is on in [Music] here's Randy [Music] the cards made a nice stop to make our the guys go to work Jimmy on the Jackie is the crew chief on this car harmony on the left side 327 mile mark was where they made that stop the Joe Gibbs car and look at this race no matter what they making pit stops and they all get back out there in the same place and they start racing again too who's Dan valvetime that's for the lead yeah it's just a little at the time right around trade you see the Blues number two back on the track Rusty Wallace trying to stay in that point on [Music] see the 28 cars back out talk to them to find out what get to that straw you see what the story is on our number 28 [Music] laughing boy Alan the leaders Rudd and Slade it's a Ford in the Chevrolet and playing field is gone wotty green flag pit stops have been completed we'll get ready to take a break here then come back and sort out the field for you but suffice it to say Ruud Schrader Livan again [Music] leader in traffic no change that leaders in traffic Schrader and rod continue on each other out here here they are under Garrett cope in car 12 and Bobby Labonte has caught them up as well take a look at those pit times when they get the close race of elite rather than that's what happened Bobby gain pit stop that time he made a really good pit stop that put him right back up or when they got to race and then he and really puts him right back there you see the front - and it will show you a bobby labonte just right behind them to get an idea of how much he's made up in that 18 car and further back Marlin and Earnhardt pretty good warm 4/4 I can't remember a 600 last year 600 at this point was so stabilized it wasn't any of this kind of thing going on I was a part of it I wish I would have been stink up the show drive off you know it was competitive that's what makes Winston Cup racing get better and better because I was seeing that type of [Applause] everybody's checking out on little body [Music] Terry Labonte moving in on our our fifth and six there just behind them michael waltrip seventh there's Ricky Rudd holding on to second for driver Rudd still a bit frustrating that Chevy spoiler adjustment rule here's what he told us about it you gotta be careful everyone wants to do good but just being really careful not to over in an engineer and the only thing we can hope for is NASCAR will step up here and give us give us that little bit of spoiler back that we had before that's about two tenths of a second right there then we can go race looks like they're pretty racy right now they seem awful racing there's so much going through the garage area you know guys are gonna switch to Pontiac people's well now that you've widened out that trunk lid on the Pontiac Richard it looks like things are better for you at least certainly with michael waltrip tonight the finals have a real good run you know qualified real well the you know he's been he's been just regular steady he qualified good for them for the Winston but Corwin all the peace I think it was really really loose they learned that looks like they debate the existence and look through the Java 230 laps 345 miles of it with five cautions three laps under yelling spin applause have a caution out here back at flat 56 when they turned them back to green and we've had great racing through two green flag stops they keep on coming on and giving us this great show up in front all we got trouble in turn four big time home of it very good Brett Bodine and getting spun around and Bobby Hamilton made a move of the day to get through that one he looked like he was going to get caught up and then some coming on the pit road a couple of bruised cars Brett Bodine one we had two of the boat on and boy Alan I think is part of that as well Todd bird on that line thought was right in there I don't know help us he got into the pits also all there the cautions out to caution number six lap 232 Allen Benjamin Rick Benjamin down at the SD beam it's in a kid as we work toward the second half of the race let's take a quick look at our auto light race recap already twenty four lead changes Richard Petty betcha there'd be a lot more that's what we've seen eleven different cars have been out in front a virgin just under 150 miles an hour so far with five cautions to this point 23 laps under yellow and five cars out of the chase at this point here are the cars who've fallen out Chad little and warden Jeff Burton both Brooks Brothers Phil Elliott we saw back the long hard day Marcus out of the hunt and leaders look like this Bobby Labonte led off the start then Jeff Gordon and Kenny Schrader Todd Bodine headed the show for a while Schrader again Todd Bodine again briefly before his problems developed Schrader rusty before his trouble developed Bobby Labonte rusty again Bobby and it's been rusty in front for one additional lap on lap 122 and at this point Schrader took command again rusty Dale Earnhardt showed the way for a while Michael Waltrip had a good run at the front Sterling Marlin Mark Martin briefly a few laps under caution Morgan Shepherd Dale Earnhardt we're back to Kenny Schrader out in front Schrader your leaders on pit road randypepper didn't is there well I'll tell you what this is not a pretty sight Brett Bodine has walked from the Lowe's Ford he came walked over to pit road and has passed out on pit wall Kenny Schrader the leader is in the pit pit so one he's gone and away but Brett mode I need some attention with her he's just gotten it done and right around 18 seconds but they watch Bernhardt and rut go by them now they have adjusted Earnhardt's car with tire pressure they're trying to fight this car up recall in the last round of pit stops when he went out he was not as fast as he had previously been so they have adjusted this car with tire pressure no wrench at the back end but it's gonna be a different car Richard Petty Ernie Irvan let's take a look at what happened here Loy Allen crashing into the back of Brett Bodine where's Todd in all of this he gets gritty Craven just getting by sure look like something happened to a Brett boat on liliane really slow down quick because the 1908 catch anybody that quick in the middle of the corner Mike going into people at all but you'd really call him awful quick another angle I think there's something else that I mean you know that's the reason brett what i just passed out on their pit wall i think some of that has got an effect on what happened I'm not sure how much of a piece of that Todd Bodine was in Loy Allen and Brett Bodine were the hard crash in that one and they're working on Brett Bodine right now and we'll have an update on this story in just a moment we'll take this break as leaders are pitting here in the coca-cola 600 welcome back to the Charlotte Motor Speedway we are under caution after that incident up north current that you saw a moment ago involving Brett Bodine and he is on pit road being attended to right now I want to take a moment and share with you the weekend racing brought to you by Auto week America's only enthusiast weekly first we're going to show you some highlights from yesterday's Busch grand national action this in the middle portion of the race Johnny Benson jr. in car number 74 Benson goes crossed up gets a little help the car lifts bounces back out of the track he hits the wall hard and Kenny Wallace takes a hard look as well several other cars involved in that Rodney Cole filing in and Richard Petty's car couple of other cars they all stopped down in turn one the day dominated by Chad little and his mark grip at Ford car number 23 little takes the checkered flag one year after he was hurt so badly here at Charlotte let's show you what happened in the NASCAR supertruck event the Western Auto 200 this afternoon at i-70 speedway in odessa missouri there you see the 16 automobile that's Ron Hornaday Mike Skinner of the Richard Childress number three Skinner was the winner coming down to take the checkered flag dave rezendes and Jeff Conine struck finishing in second spot the Victory Lane ceremonies there in the winter Mike Skinner here's the way your Indy 500 finish shaped up jacques villeneuve controversial finish Villeneuve gets the win Christian Fittipaldi bobby ray how Eliseo Salazar and robby gordon round out the top five scott goodyear had that race in the bag there was controversy coming off caution with a few laps to go he passed the pace car they stopped scoring it perhaps a protest will be forthcoming we don't know as yet but that's just speculation certainly a some question marks as to how all that played out at Indy call 1-800 two three two one five two two a couple of 52 weeks we're only 1795 lowest price ever each week on a week has all the inside news of racing personalities driving impressions and more the number again for Auto week 1 800 - 3 250 22 offer ends tomorrow we're green ken Squier 237 laps complete 355 miles and as they take green we're going to update you on Brett Bodine in a moment let's swallow this lead battle as Ken Schrader Ricky Rudd Earnhardt Bobby Labonte sterling marlin and Hut Stricklin lead him down [Music] instructor Joe Ruttman finish cool you did we did tell him that the driver I did remember was Dave Rezendes how about traitor trying to check out and rut trying to reel him in [Music] there's Derek cope well he's found a hot set of tires look at him come on 20 seconds to the laps down it gets a lot better at this black it seems no way around you don't have any trouble seeing people from Jeff bodean Sklar at Lake speed I was a heck of a shot you can really see what the side will have its flexing [Music] pulls up on Mayfield [Music] get an update on the michael waltrip story right now Randy well he's not a heck of a rug with only 15 cars in the lead lap Michael is now driven back to about 13 they broken the shifter linkage possibly he's got third and fourth years so in lap 240 he's still got a lot of pit stops left and that certainly is going to hinder him the rest of the afternoon they're trying to figure out what they can do to help them but maybe they will not be able to do anything for as far as prep what is condition they gave him oxygen here in the back of the pits he finally didn't get up he walked away went back to his trailer with a nice big smile on his face face up Brett what I know ken that's good news up Brett Bodine who took a real shock into the wall started in turn three landed hard and turned poor after he and Loy Allen [Music] now you're getting to see the cars look a little faster now as those lights begin to take their effect here they're doing plant big effect I think you know because of Bristol everybody realized this does with the lights and humpy and all them never nobody ever thought you could just light up a mom-off racetrack but we sure have it here don't you think some others are going to follow suit today you know I was there at Bristol the other day they used to have lights that they brought in to the racetrack now if they have all the lights pretty much like Richmond's got lights now I think you look at more racetrack to pay attention to this obviously we can race on a Saturday a lot of times and actually have a Sunday for a rainy day Earnhardt being on the outside of Bobby Labonte third spot here [Music] good battle we gotta really say something about Hut Stricklin there we hadn't really talked about it much today but he's um he's dead doing a good job I hope you talking about the top bad luck sure looks pretty edgy there didn't it sometimes three-card draft on the outside which surround Bobby Labonte and look at Strickland come on who knows caught musta got loose good made a little bit of movie news Bible when they all run the same speed terry labonte stays right there with them still up in front coming by the twenty five of the ten Schrader and rut the third Stricklen tomorrow bonnie own art the Bonnie again [Applause] Jenny Bernstein's car terrible year started 12th today sir [Music] with Marlon challenging on the outside a lot of rumors going on about the birds ding-ding by the first indifference supposing the other driver there's trappers get this money to pay my gas bill the problem is man man you rich and we lived in his race wow I thought like the race was bobby labonte not giving anything back getting right around Strickland back to 51 apart in six terry labonte seventh mortgage our carton in line but the story for the moment is chance Reiter he looked like he had this race on his own way and then of course it was Waltrip that wanted and it was sterling Marling to finish second that year it's a great run for Freddie a Schrader somewhat the class of the field because they just keep in and up in the front so that's kind of and there's just so many cars so close together when Schrader came to Winston Cup back in 84 to watch Terry the Lonnie heading under Strickland here's Terry Labonte down on the inside that is for six pot Morgan Shepherd right there [Music] Bernstein blast windows and came back in 1990 with brett bodine at North Wilkesboro he's standing by with Steve Byrnes right now tonight that's doing a great job he has four bases hits day enough for the team themselves doing a great job - everybody stay davon Steve kids is good man - we won't take anything away from him can you guys have really found with a lot of adversity in front row let's meet at something so far but that's done a great job and the guys that worked hard I can't say enough for the crew really they do it all I just got to be here this weekend hello weekend up for the Budweiser contracture to watch these guys its handling real good it's just it's just one of those things it's a little bit loose every now and then a little tight but he's just have to try to hang with them right now opening bid the end for obviously a [Music] what a great scrap that one is the six and the 21 they just don't give it up for seven spot and they move Strickland back out of that into eight see jimmy hensley on the tail end of that picture laughs or two down in the darrell waltrip park I tell you no mark mark right now it's written is deep because come up and down along the side of the 21 car and now the 21 just keeps running side by side but I know marks going man just let me by these cars are about three-and-a-half seconds back in the leader they just don't give up out in there you know waiting here you know for the race to kind of mark right now here's a marks that are due he's going to go in and come right behind that and get him loose because he's mad at him he said a minute I was all the way up the side you got me good that's what walks in he's and get loose from behind 25:21 here's mark pulling back I've been behind him again Shepard line seven Mark Martin 8 here in the coca-cola 600 live on TBS and back up in front it's building for another three card battle filly Schrader rod Harlan and let's not forget in the body Bobby Labonte 260 laps 390 miles are complete would straighter out in front Marlin and second Bobby Labonte third run Terry Labonte Dale Earnhardt back there in six and just behind them have Mark Martin 7 Strickland Shepherd Michael Waltrip Ricky Craven 11th Lake speed 12 Bobby Hamilton in 13th 14th is Presley 15th is bass those are the cars in the lead lap as we get up toward the 400 mile mark in this 36th annual coca-cola 600 let's go to Steve Byrnes our Terry Labonte's crew chief Terry really sees fast on this set of tire carry a penguin right now he said the car was the perfect earlier practice cover doing stolen off a little bit I think we'll have a good that booms down trouble time to drop Thank You Kari that's the story on terry labonte right back in it again there Labonte right now get ready to the challenge bobby was starting to chase Kenny Schrader's down there Bobby's second he's rattling shredders ball probably saying Terry couldn't forget take all friends they give her does interview you know they've got everybody's got to satellite dishes in the pits yeah they're listening us if anybody's listen it doesn't go ahead and wait all right that's horrific nobody let's go there dick Berggren well here's the strategy in Dale Earnhardt one of his crew members down to the NASCAR truck to take a look at the weather radar and what he saw was it looks good right here in Charlotte but the skies to the west are threatening we are beyond halfway that would be the end of it is we got some rain here the other thing they are concerned about is their pit stop they have to through tonight Gerald Haley is carrying in place of John Malloy Malloy suffering from a broken arm David Smith replaced by Mike Moore and after every single pitstop Andy Petree gathers the boy drowned and they all take a look at a replay of the pit stops junus on the speedway yellow is out todd bodine showing a lot of smoke as he came down out of turn number four [Music] it's number seven look like it's my this looks like grown-ups caution number seven guys when you've been having a day like that ya better be terminal yeah it is while Schrader's let a hundred laps so far three of these seven cautions in the three of them have involved the incidents with Todd Bodine itay we all wondered what anybody was going to do a Jeff Gordon yeah I mean nobody even knew that he was gonna run that's good it was a surprise for ken Schrader staying out in front we started to say earlier in 84 he came to Winston Cup racing you've been in the Sprint's he's been in the midgets he'd been in those silver crown cars he said he wasn't worried at all about these stock cars because I don't have any more bones to break a day one Kitty straighter key a lot of racing I was the shop that we did someone for kayden's Reiter actually right before they telling it when he won the 125 I went over and helped him load one of the trucks up that he was going down to do it with he gave me like 25 bucks man it was like I could eat for a week great story Ernie Irvan all right all the leaders are in let's go to Ram and how's the group go to work on the Budweiser number 25 of Kenny Schrader's they're only about halfway on that fuel stop so one can of gas they won't be waiting on fuel for this one that jack goes up the left side tires coming off a little bit slower on the Left Front for Schrader oh wait quick on the left rear dick they've also called for only one can of fuel and a learner's car good stop okay the fuel did that lap 266 is where we're at we're going to take a quick break and then me laughs romantical 600 well lights are on around the speedway and it's beginning to really make a dramatic difference in how these cars look but there's another story here Ernie that know how to be addressed and that is earn hard time after time has taken that number one pit he seems to always have an advantage and it's not true here at Charlotte no it's not you know right now the extension on pit road is probably 25 yards or 50 yards actually maybe 50 or 75 yards further down and wear that day understanding yeah Dale has to actually go quite a ways away from his pit so it just it makes it fair for everybody and he's getting beat up he's having real Goods pit stops but he has to go that extra distance and you know the other cars were able to go and their other speed he got the speed and then the point Richard is did before he just tripped over the line before he was sitting right like two foot from his truck and he beat everybody else even though they was coming down at him but he got that line first here he's going after the second here before before he gets to that line well those people have got the momentum then he's got to get his momentum Filip so it just makes it more even than what it was now are they going to do that on other tracks as well I don't know what that's the first time I I think it's been here before you know it's just a deal that this racetrack is big enough every time I mention something about the champion being able to get the last pin before the first pick they always get on me about this but Larry McReynolds will be thrilled with a job you're doing you know we already told NASCAR if we win the championship they can make it where we have to qualify them [Music] [Applause] to 70 Sterling Marlin Bobby longer there guys terry labonte Hut Stricklin Martin Martin Bobby Hamilton Ricky Craven make up the top ten as we're back underway [Music] racecars ups back strips all the people must agree that isn't one to go generate lead to what lead the fire Bobby the body mm ow Kenny Schrader's see if Schrader wind himself back up into the sea August 1 to leave but it sterling Marling the last two years now with the advantage Bobby Labonte going to the inside takes a look where I'm right there with it Dick Trickle it back in 60 one lap down from those leaders 15 cars in the lead lap Robert Pressley is from the 12th the point is Michael walk [Music] Shepard 11th in the kradin up there in 10th [Music] by stage one two three a little bobble and in here comes two cars buying it's a lot like Daytona Talladega the draft is playing such a big effect Schrader in port right there with it it fit terry labonte six drops out of the inside of Nick trickle jimmy hensley in the 17 is wanting in 17th position [Music] quite up to speed at the end of the race sandwiched in there is Hut Stricklin you see the 26 Clark coming back around to make a run pulls up to help trick on see if he can trickle was in the wall the other day in practice or that car up but he severely wouldn't know it down I don't think that's the same car I think they had to I think he had started back did they going back john andretti sir this car in the Thursday practice period Thursday three cars were torn up to practice right there right there with Dick Trickle about so close I mean I'd have to say HUD had to lift obviously that costume [Music] the guys I got old but even I think he would be good during the day spent competitive he hasn't been a dominant car and as you sit in the passenger seat you're riding in a transition yeah three you're getting up to 180 85 right in here especially now with the new pavement I haven't actually gone on this racetrack we came these tracks all be slowed down a little bit for when I come back yeah sure [Music] let's go down to a Rick Benjamin at the STP pit center with a guest thanks Ken really happy to see Brett Bodine here Brett we were concerned we saw you on the pit wall what happened Wow we come off the second turn over there behind the oil I pulled out around in the past and got real loose we got the outside went down in the tree and he just run into the back of the side of me I don't know which one it was and I thought I was gonna save it then the car he hit me at first and then it was a mess it shook you up a little bit yeah we knocked out of me and I just passed out for a second for Milaca air I guess you can say but I'm okay now and like tell everybody back you had a strong horse today what do you think of these guys run it up front who's got the best car right now well I'll tell ya I think it flip-flops every time they put another set of tires on it looks like a flip-flop so he's got the best car you know right now Sterling's looking off a good change that extra hundred thousand dollars you know he's gonna try out a hard one Hey ladies how about the four teams you got a little additional help from NASCAR recently Ricky Rudd's been awfully good yeah he is I think he's probably about the only forward is got anything left for Norrell in the race I thought I was going to be in good shape I come off the second turn there the fourth start I slapped the wall was my fall and did knock the front end out of with Justin on the car but we just never got it up to speed again I appreciate you picking me we let you down well I know you'll get one before the years out what's changed in your program you've been running a lot better well we know we had some team members leave Gucci [Music] work hard to get it back up to speed good as we watch Kenny Schrader's make a move inside for second squad getting by Bobby Labonte Schrader has had some tough luck lately losing barnum a bigger part of his stuff but he's been awfully tough his car is really good look how well he sticks right on the bottom that's the key you know you don't want to push up down there in the middle of three and for the guy that can get through the sundeck hit the throttle wide open and assumes he's the guy this year we saw a lot of wrecks yesterday in the Busch race where cars were getting together air was being disturb hasn't been quite so bad today but what's changed here this seems a lot different from past trip well you know we are a little less rear spoiler and then cos listen downforce on the back the cars real comfortable by yourself the like Bernie said earlier when Hut Stricklin was down inside a Dick Trickle it looked like he had to crack throttle because the car got light on him and that's exactly what happens the car gets light and not moves over so you need to check up when you're side-by-side just have to use your head baby exactly but you know when they this thing gets down to the end these guys are gonna start hanging it out more and more and you gonna see more and more chances taking it inside the hundred laps ago Bart here shortly a lot of cars still with a chance to win this thing and we watch another battle back there Morgan Shepherd has been doing pretty good today look like the Walker yeah look at the grass work there Michael got sucked right up for those two cars were in side-by-side news ever mata ground down the spread way the draft is playing a big part in how fast we can get down the street watch of these cars draft a little bit further back Hut Stricklin putting an eighth spot that's a car you spent an awful lot of time and they've started to get fast well you know how come and help that program and that's a great car he's got right there that car was leaping race like Layton race unless we just made a big ball knock ourselves back to the sixth place finish but that car is a real capable Hut is awesome this is a great battle it's taking shape you're down the main straightaway as we watch Morgan Shepherd lead Michael Waltrip and Hut Stricklin derecho pagan right in there and Jimmy Hensley I think has to get a call today there a lap down but the team took over from DW they've been running very well take a ride it will turn musgrave in the family in a turn three is it special to run here at Charlotte Motor Speedway at night under the lights is it's really nice it properly enjoys the night racing puts us on Friday [Music] we love having a top drive type television to us we watch Musgrave try to make his way to the front of the pack is this going to be a battle as we get down to the last hundred left between those front four or five or is there anybody back there it might have something no I think it's kind of sorted itself out it might get himself back up in here is Mark Martin he's kind of hanging around in between the two facts and I think he's capable of getting up to the front as we ride with him off the fourth turn his car looks awfully good you know another Clarkson a savvy driver he's probably saving something for the end he's very smug hardly over the wheel at all now that would be easy handling pretty well yeah he is he turns at the end right now he's turning it down into the first turn and then going through the middle of one and two and he'll start releasing up on the wheel as he comes off the second turn upon the back straightaway now we understand that it looks like the cars Robert Pressley is going to take a black fly from NASCAR's two car laying down some smoke down the racetrack we take a look on the backstretch as we watch Bobby Hamilton and Rick mast and Joe Nemechek pound down into turn three Hamilton spent tough today and Rick mast is running at the top 15 yeah that's the group of cars I was running with most of the time if we could have just ever got the front end work that'll work for something no driver error lead and race crosses that will happen every once a while doesn't happen with you very often tell us that as well Bobby Hamilton leading this pack of cars down the back straightaway and Ken Squier this is going to be quite a shootout as we ride down into three with mr. Hamilton yeah it sure is Bobby Hamilton up in the 13th position still holding that lead lap 287 complete 430 miles you heard Brett Bodine allude to that hundred thousand dollar bonus both Sterling Marlin and Mark Martin are eligible because sterling won at Daytona Mark Martin at Talladega if one of them wins here all they've got to do to pay it off to get an extra million win here is worth a hundred thousand but the million if they can win on Labor Day at Darlington so it's a lot at stake were both in Sterling Marlin and Mark Martin here this evening and that's where Sterling Marlin one of his wins his tongue wasn't the one that gave the bonus the boy here we've got a gun a good battle this is almost just like what happened in the Winston you know della her I thought he was a bacon three why did it turn Mannie that's for the lead hello Sterling Marlin getting jabbed had to pick it up I never got tired of this and go closest air he drove in there so close to call our own so Schrader has the lead and now it is Dale Earnhardt in second and Bobby Labonte comes to third and here comes Earnhardt after Schrader I'm telling you you know he's the most savvy racecar driver we have more about what goes on with aerodynamics chassis wise and stuff this is what it what he's doing to probably take the leader straighter people give up how close do you have to get we really have to reach for it to get it back it almost well you hear a traitor traitor did it see straighter done it right back to him but he give up you watch her no he's going to turn left on right now very good [Music] why they do that you know me Richard I can do that if it look like you'd learn three times you said with it guys like a few significant oh why cuz all them people just that Winston Cup race I've seen a couple of meals like it what happens fo the didn't-didn't Golden Horde come on he lets off and his cat turns and his friends riding back then he knocked both did yes they say forget haven't won yet here's Bobby Labonte ready to try our heart [Music] he hit up that thing because it wasn't a piston area probably her this with a hundred laps to go we've still got a total of 14 hours Wow Bobby got brokered that take time think that was a mint deal but it did happen Schrader pops back into second terry labonte down the inside further you think there were three laps to go out here I tell you you know what the why these guys are racing like this because second place and that's why their racing tactics the only one they remember for second place is a hundred laps down the road that doesn't matter you know I don't think I would want to wait to be Bobby Labonte and done that to tell around have to race within the rest of the day because he ain't gonna forget that [Music] 25 backpack is that right Richard oh yeah it ain't gonna forget it is it these race car drivers or spawn enough if they don't don't they remember everybody I mean if it was last week or last month or ten years ago I remember so I'm so hit him going in the first corner they tonne of water they don't forget man that's it he's saying that payback time still exists you're not going to cut the guy a little bit of slack let's take a look at replay at that incident just a moment ago there's the 18 Bobby Labonte tucked right in behind her and Hardart got a little bit loose right there and Bobby come up on them [Music] Bobby just miscalculated how close he was to and I think he just did it on purpose but if the three didn't it didn't go out any that he come down to so yeah just that combination [Music] here stick burger alright you chuckles you Amish that move on TV what snake well you know he had him sideways on the straightaway then he turning sideways on the backstretch I see a guy but Bobby Labonte radioed in to his crew chief Jimmy man car said guys I I didn't mean to do it I barely bumped him but I think it really comes down to what you were saying Ernie it is the draft and you can some time on a guy real quick here good I remember something maybe he couldn't see I know [Music] get back out there for sure I'm not ready to give ya need to make any enemies I was doing them know I'd like to be swapped in to pay well here's Earnhardt ready to swap some right now which traitor the leader come back [Applause] swapped a little paint now he's a ready to go back racing 14 cars remain in the lead lap and there's a lot more paint swapping to be done before this one's over 96 laps remain and the coca-cola 600 1995 Schrader Earnhardt stay up in front what a performance it's been all afternoon and evening here talk about the great six hundreds they talk about 1980 as the greatest Darrell Waltrip vs. Benny Parsons Parsons greatest day merci okay you know a lot of guys kind of at the beginning of this race because he qualified 34th he wasn't starting very good everybody said oh man it's not good that's a typical Delamar deal he's he's ready to race whether whether he can qualify at the lead but he's ready to do it this this is what makes that teamwork [Music] as crowd works that much harder there championship-caliber be it doesn't make any difference how bad a day their handles to you don't count out because they've got your stuff together it might not be perfect but is best for the mood the majority of the other people and they just keep working as it is get out of the car you know now he's not necessarily going to get out of the car more than what it what he can but he's gonna work hard at it all day [Music] we're doing for you down through those top positions giving you some sense of the border around the track and the unica between the cars here's Ricky Rudd the present time had a great race days up on that lead lap you still a serious contender to win it all white behind him Mark Martin just as smooth as ever running in six following him [Music] shot down that back straightaway you see all the lights western that's cherry LaMotta at it second spot at stake right here this is the bondages drove violently had a report about a telltale smoke from the car number six Martin Martin's car a moment ago we want to check on that this is for second place remember aaron dehart told us that a the last time Bobby the parterre the Bonnie had the best set of tires we had it was perfect right here now again this cars coming on close them that's another another hindrance car we've got three Rick Hendrick's cars [Music] the three Rick Hendrick's motors in the top three right now there's the 25 car of Schrader out in front and that interval now stands at what one then almost two seconds one and seven one in seven ten seconds between car number twenty five and five than a tight battle for third here's Earnhardt white back after bobby labonte another time [Music] pit strategy updates with 90 laps to go Randy Pemberton if this race continues to run green the head strategy fuel mileage could play a factor in the outcome Sterling Marlin they say should have to pit between 320 and 325 that would mean he can't make it now the 25 car they say that like the 330 335 they are going to go for so it's one more stop I will check it after we go down to thickburger to make sure that the contact team has to make only one stop or to stop let's go to pick first so Randy I'm right down in the Earnhardt pit and they don't think they can do it on just one stop they're going to have to do two right now they're calculating 322 certainly for Earnhardt's teams Steve Burns we just talked with Gary DeHart the guy's Terry Labonte spin they're in a similar situation to expect a fit in about 20 laps so that's the situation on pit road will it be one or two pit stops 3:12 now complete 147 mile an hour average did see a moment ago at 147 would be a in four to six hundred mile distance Earnhardt established the old mark at one forty five and a half night 93 was married in it dear Schrader still consistently turning out laps this is what lap number 140 somewhere in that range that he has led in this event [Music] Jeff Gordon situation developing early - putting him out in this race lift him laps down and playing in an hour points the dominant car has been the sister carbon-13 this car number 25 and the next bar terry labonte and we're checking the interval again between those two this race runs down Kenny Wallace is back on pit road for Terry Labonte the question is is the longest race of the season is taxing on the driver as it is said to be you know to tell you the truth 600 miles here really doesn't seem that long the race would probably doesn't last any longer than the one next week at Dover but we wrote a lot of races that are that are it's something big a deal or they get to end it over next to me can be quite a deal that 500 miles there takes longer than 600 miles here that'll really ring you out new concrete there that's going to make it so Schrader still has that advantage trying to get that victory Martin's car is smoking now we'll give you that story in more detail when we return [Music] steal aerial platform giving you this spectacular picture of the mile and a half Charlotte Motor Speedway coming into the out there tonight but so far we've been blessed rained all morning near rain look at the smoke continues to follow the number six and Mark Martin harbinger of bad things to come from mark who still stays up in this race in six spot we're trying to get an updated story from the pits as to what's out in the Valvoline car we see it now [Music] you know he had the problem - in the Winston he had like a burn piston is with the problem it looked like - sure getting worse moment yeah but he's hanging tough and in number six let's go back up front of them when lap 322 there is traitor what a great race he is heaven he's seven the poll here for this event previously but he's never tasted victory in this one and it's been quite a 118 races since he has had a win right now it's all his way Schrader's days first terri lamanno second Bobby Labonte 3rd Earnhardt is in 4th rut his 5th Mark Martin 6 Michael Waltrip seventh then Sterling Marlin Lake speed Hut Stricklin 10th and Ricky Craven is in 11th there's Bobby Labonte and a Labonte brothers are now 2 and 3 on the race record I can't ever remember a race when they swapped the leads and then usually all of you both the kind of bride a little because it is 600 miles none of that here Black Flag the number 6 bar I guess he's smoking pretty pretty bad you know pretty bleak it his 12th started Mark Martin trying to win this one keeps getting away from him and how about this there's [Music] Bobby Hamilton in that 43 car remaining in 12th position and Rick mast and number one and they're just as racing on the tail the lead lap as they are up in front Richard you have your radio you need your talents ha ha yeah that's what they used to tell me and I said hey man this is the marks car left the pits right now [Music] he's gone back out again and there's a tremendous plume of smoke as it stays on the bottom of the racetrack he comes up to speed and safety back in from the STP onboard camera I mean around Mark Martin snoring he stays down to the bottom he hurt him they listen to it so yeah okay well he's got that little TV monitor in his hand that's why those these ones TV market yeah right yeah sure we're good I don't know what that did listen to come to him earlier so you get down a little more Kochi you could have picked up three or four is why would you they get close to the end of the racer Frankie but he's pretty good through the end of the race that's where we easily dismiss that puts him back up to 11th Craven now in front of him in 10th and the rookie Ricky Craven out of Newburgh Maine to e7 a great race came in here tied with Preston but he's still making a pit stop down pit road racing with Gordon's early problems Martin's recent trouble Earnhardt he's likely to leave Charlotte with at least a hundred point lead just watch this pit stop on the Betty team see that NASCAR official counting how many people Richard still counting to making sure they didn't just get an extra [Music] it's a bad pitch that absolutely thank you see Bobby Hamilton so he's giving folks and amen and fourth squad down to the end of the road make you stop dick Berggren spare seven-time national champion three-time winner race Dale Earnhardt brings it in on the right front Andy Petree he's the crew chief Ricky beers is doing the Czech band is your he gets run around that car pay tree now on the left side chocolate fires 94 nice stop for heart that was on lap 3/3 can they make it by out if they can make it to the end of the race they're saying don't think so if they do Gary Nelson will be down there with a fine-tooth comb it's likely you're right what do you think of the job he's doing I mean seriously Richard as a car owner now is it better why I don't know anything's any better overall he really tries to keep keep up with what's going on some of the stuff I think he'd get a little bit too picky if you don't pick on everything then big things are going to get away I think overall make it beautiful if everybody is Prairie chance and make a level playing field as much Lamba 332 98 miles complete Steve Burns is down there for rut stop come around the side everything looks good so far record said they've got to nail these final pit stops the check goes under to the side Jeff Taylor hits the right front tire they're down and away let's go to Randy the Budweiser Chevrolet the good snap so far two cans of gas they were another 67 laps that will be so hard to trader down away and there are 67 laps to go in this race you come to lap 334 66 laps to go here Steve Byrnes terry labonte coming down terry labonte radioed in a few laps ago that the car felt a little bit tight sin Omega T chassis adjustments Walter Smith brakes and Jack around driver's side of the car that guard up was no problem this is a very smooth midwives come in perform tires they're happy about that when he's down in the way Bobby Labonte back out it took around and a half a bite out of them Terry Labonte but they had a slow stop and as he comes back on the track 99 miles to go miles left in this coca-cola 600 [Music] you seem to be on track for a new record unless there is a lengthy caution from here on in ken schrader in front or in heart is second and how about Lake speed spam car up in six five great one by Lake speed thus far in this event and 11 cars 12 stay in the lead lap there's your leader hey guys take a look at those pit times there's Rudd at an 18-6 Rudd came back on the track he was fourth Schrader first Bobby Labonte second and Dale Earnhardt third just saw Bobby the body racing together pretty much wide open Mark Martin is back on the track and we can get an update on the story par six right now it wasn't much but it was significant a broken hose that leads to his royal core that's all it was and into the garage replaced it sparks back out tough break nine laps down Mark Martin in car number six now being shown 29th on the field [Music] be hard to run 500 miles you're right up in it like that and just rich your teeth and run this last part out to the points dirty it happens all the time it grows on you yeah it is hard it is real discord in the nose everything you can't just won't have so many good days anyway sit you're after a minute - no there's no chance of doing [Music] keep saying the Bobby Allison carbon-12 that's a derrick coke at the back in nineteen spot it's a couple of laps down to the leaders given 12 cars still in that lead lap chasing this man ken schrader as he goes war in the coca-cola 600 about to lap Dick Trickle in the barn of the 15 the a-team car is actually catching up with his number 25 it's time for me to turn the wick up it's uh if you have some boost you're gonna put it up to lift have none but it's time to stand on the gas if you got it to go to show now that it's getting down to the nitty-gritty Danny here in that interval is really getting pared down obviously welcome back to fall of this battle for the lead between Ken Schrader and Bobby Labonte with her mark just outside and third 344 complete that ruffle diamond called the Charlotte Motor Speedway taking its toll they've got a black flag out for Robert Pressley of Asheville North Carolina tied [Music] that car as he comes in Jackson Parsi and do anything to get him back in get back out on the racetrack and watch this affair there's hot strictly the twenty six and six boxed early Marlon coming after him another time dispenser [Applause] [Music] justkeep race these are food their speeds were kind of simple at the same soonerlater they end up in his back you see michael waltrip just behind that bear 8 as you look back just behind him there's the 30 of michael waltrip in the a Lake speed is staying right there with Jimmy has leaves back there's that 9 car next week [Music] tonight Lakes be [Music] fastest record record deal like a decent list often decent starting to come to him down pretty good cars here's 30 and Ford still at Waltrip and Marley as Jeff Gordon's going back behind the wall another time he's been in and out of the garage area several times in the course of his 600 I can tell you what they've done they've a rush it at pip-pip the monitor good responsibly so it's the 13th 13th if he's officially out he's headed for the truck so you can call it the 13th time for 600 pole-sitter has failed to be around to finish this one up [Music] terry labonte and Ricky Rudd that's 4/4 tear the body is the car that ricky rudd rogue last year [Music] forget about because of the as as to the number three dick burger you can tell us about the Earnhardt car right now we're gonna let just coming to tell you about the here at heart car that really knows and he would really get right on down 50 laps to go what's the strategy [Music] College near we might just car a little bit try to be anybody Randeep Everton well we'll check in with Jimmy make car he's watching guys driver bobby labonte hey how you doing on the stopwatch with traitor leading the way we can catch a little bit we've been in traffic for last few laps and have been able to close and gain and but now there's some open traffic I think it's get a good shot but they were a little bit of him got a pen to lap 500 a lapper little ways to go was that the way to save fuel no problem we're okay on fuel well there's Bobby Labonte second spot up in front of him Schrader and he has been nipping the tints of a second off lap after lap trying to chase down the missouri driver in car number 25 we'll take a look at the interval right now as he puts a lap on Bobby Hamilton and there you see the difference between first and second spot out here tonight as we get down to the finish now Kenny Schrader is a blown the engine in the 25 Budweiser car he thinks his helmet off obviously hot he's frustrated we're gonna try and get a quick word he had his best chance to win since he won last in 1990 Kenny what can you say tough break not too good a day I need a button real bad thing was good two guys did a heck of a job car was good it's the car I'm in a fab shop work to get it back just ran Terry and Gary helped us and we had something good okay better luck next week next next week Dover Delaware heartbroken ken schrader a million for paychecks have all been written all they've got to do is fill in the names second in 91 he led a hundred 68 laps before the engine expired so now ladies a pretty good way pretty good way Bobby Labonte has it for the moment let's see if he can stay there for Joe Gibbs again they've already told us that they can he's just gonna prove buying it by this way he's pretty good shake hands I haven't raced with anybody he's out there the traffic has spread out pretty good man catching anybody's catch he could be real cautious about hands basically really nobody's kidding it we've been talking about numbers wondering what race this is for Bobby's boning everyone we've got some late breaking news right now on Dale Earnhardt let's go to the first Ken they've been calculating fuel mileage here in the Earnhardt pit 64 laps as long as they can go they last pitted and not enough time to go all the way through the end they're gonna come up about five laps short no matter how they calculated and they have been calculating it here all night long Earnhardt is going to have to stop for a gas and Gulf before this thing is over he cannot make it to the end she could have levanti's 1 & 2 you see Terry right back there in 3rd closing up on Earnhardt another time we now have 8 cars in the lead lap Bobby Hamilton has gone a lap down Ricky Craven was just passed by Hamilton and so mast has passed Craven as well ix Craven 10 a rather mash tent and Craven 11th richard childress looking on pop somebody draft here right they pull away from my terry labonte there we're showing 365 complete as you get this 360 lap rundown working 366 towards with the advantage and it's a big one one six seconds over earned mark in second place now look at this scramble you're looking at marlin v michael waltrip six hot strickland right back on the inside and seventh okay went on I think they've left laser lamp yeah I think so they still digging them still thinking they'll want to lead a while they know the leader sometimes people always say well why do you guys keep past each other you know it's like yeah we want to win but you know you're passing the same guys and pretty soon you slow down than the next guy passes you it's because we're competitive [Music] Morgan Shepherd being lapped by Bobby Labonte who's never won a race super bowl-winning Joe Gibbs is with him going just the way he likes and he wants to do even more second twice it's great you know I just you know get a little luck on our side get a little luck here and there and you know we'll help we'll have a better day than a second place and you never know that might that they might be around the corner might be a long ways away but we're what is just keep the hammer on over 500 miles he's been hammering and there's Joe Gibbs looking on as his choice after he lost Dale Jarrett to take over this car now is in command of the coca-cola 600 and seeking his first Winston Cup win looking into the Charlotte Motor Speedway from the steel aerial cam the 373 of 400 laps complete the last time we had brothers 1 & 2 in the 600 1971 Bobby and Donnie Allison that's what it's shaping up for right now but there's others out here changed this story dick Berggren has more fuel is the story on pit road ken Squier Murdock committee was on lap 329 recall he is going to have to stop with five to go for a gash and go not so for Terry Labonte who made it all the way to 334 his crew chief Gary have to stop now there's a caution all this goes down the drain and we start all over again but if there is not fueled to play a major role in the outcome of this event and again I think what they said Bobby Bonaduce he could go all the way to so the first and second pounds say they come on I think they've stretched it all along try to do that so now though the record just didn't have at the straight this widget right now it looking good for them right now it is that way Dale Jarrett havilland Texaco car is gone behind the wall it is out of the race the attrition continuing to bill with Bobby and Terry Labonte one and two Earnhardt three Ricky Rudd for Marlin in fifth and that battle continues with Michael Waltrip and six and lakes be right there in seventh 11 by Rick mast and Ricky Cravens phase 10 with the Hut Stricklin couple Dick Trickle 13th Steve Grissom 14th Musgrave 15th and they'll give you more on the run the top here screen what a story being written up front by the lumati brothers is a replay of 71 when Bobby and Donnie came home more than two well it's good by which bobby labonte is staying out in front of the interstate battery Joe Gibbs car they're gonna be a lot of mixed up on the back down top 10 or 12 because some number go stops alone or not so that lets go really mix it that down everything runs look like a pretty low sale Richard Randy Pemberton can give us more on some of the cars that cannot make it the distance without a veal stock Randy yeah 5th through 7th the four carve Sterling Marlin they radioed to him they're not sure they said sterling conserve fuel however you do that they said you cannot make it the 9 car blake speed they told him i believe you'll be four laps sure so that's the way those car stack up the 43 car is running eight putting a lap on Randy Lajoie is the leader seeking that first Winston Cup win in the car that won the 500 year last October with Dale Jarrett at the controls we'll be back with a finish after we take this break and we're back at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with Richard Petty and Ernie Irvan I'm Ken Squier topside and we're going to be with you right to the finish now following Bobby Labonte in his quest for his first Winston Cup victory now second place is a long way back someone he knows well six seconds back News Terry Labonte years ago he was asked by the press about himself said he'd like to be more like his brother terror Terry is a former Winston Cup champion I know that's what Bobby Labonte has in mind a big step tonight if he can do what Jeff Gordon and introduced himself to victory lay on the west right here and the coca-cola 600 here's Bobby Labonte and for Joe Gibbs it'll be his second straight trip there they pulled it off last October with Dale Jarrett if we mention Dale Jarrett there's Joe Gibbs looking pensive looking on there's a guy that loves her sport her day he loves the sport he loves to win and most all parts of sports and where there was football drag racing or instant price they're able to put together Bobby Hamilton is now on pit road for his final stop he's running of eights position one lap down in the petty car number 43 out of that pit stop look Richard I don't know I missed it I was busy watching a midst that was good stop but they just had to put in a can of gas and the deal is reason to change tires they can change tires as quickly put in one can okay so he doesn't lose anything but change the tire to the safe looks like we're on our way to a record hey don't you love that [Music] that really shows you racing like in that's amazing that you [Music] you see everything now when you're out there driving that core it's more like the Bible [Music] someone's asking [Music] I could give you even more not that you ever pay any attention to the grandstand or the infield but it's there it's in the corner yeah and this way all you see is that black strip community says really I think you probably pay more attention when it's when it is dark when it is lit then you do any other time because you don't you don't get distracted any at all hundred twenty thousand people on the edge of their seats here another forty or fifty thousand at least in the infield watching this Bobby Labonte closes down we're going to stay with you're right tune of finish unless there's a caution key Craven has fallen back some but he still as far as the speed is concerned but still stays ninth Robert Pressley has come back on the track that rookie battle Craven is still in tenth remember Presley was brought considerably so that point battle will take Ricky Craven now making his final pit stop gasps ago 389 that's what the card is they're all kind of racing with with Richards car Richards car they put two tires on and a whole gained against their the guys were just putting in a couple of three seconds for the gas just enough to magnetically Presley back in 20 craven comes out we're showing 10 to go final 10 laps [Music] I've won my first Winston Cup race it at Bristol the last ten laps come it's like unbelievable but you feel I know Bobby the body right now is just he's hearing things feeling Dave and his whole life has wanted to be [Music] [Applause] and you succeed that's the best feeling this for Jeff Gordon started his deal last year he started he stayed one here and anyone on a real good year the body's got the same chance coming down on pit road this is that stop they've been talking about here it is at lab 391 Oregon Shepherd also coming in [Music] [Music] 7:8 the only guy who worked on that Louis Chuck [Music] the little party brothers have to stop again or are they on their way to victory ernhardt coming back to speed [Music] walked up to 5th and Lake speed up in 6 Craven getting laughed by Bobby Labonte they had to stop a good Mikey I didn't see it till he went back outside [Music] they just gasp to go let's just think they couldn't make it richard childress can feel a physical feeling well a 23 year old has cast a long shadow over Bobby Labonte when they ran for Rookie of the Year Jeff beat Bobby out two races this year there's Bobby's wife Donna looking on two times this year bobby labonte was close but tonight right now Plus his brother as a trick up his sleeve bobby labonte is on his way to win in the Winston Cup Series here in the 36 running of the coca-cola 600 I'd say this is the race that set but he won this race last year then it went on you see Chuck Bown off the pace here we had a call on Chuck tonight's great to see him in a gray scene after that crash at Pocono Pennsylvania the I put him on the shelf for a year getting a chance to come out here qualified well it looks like they've run that one dry yeah that might be what happened from out of instruction as far as a constraint still racing right here ricky rudd taking negative three or four laps to go you don't even look at you just run it to the quits and then you go think about it then no it's not going to give up easy is part of the race for the rest today but it's a race other than for track position track position child it is as Earnhardt as a lap down after that ended up speed enough to know that speed limit on minute on page it hurts otherwise they'd be launched without a - laughter she looks like them in the table it's gonna move in on the other hand that's gonna make it so now the question is they figure so close we're down to those final laps once we to go it must happen yeah three laps to go out to get it good car 10 ricky rudd comes just two laps remaining it was that a plant stop they sure must have known he was coming in hey you know you know who gets the award tonight those spotters what a job we had that going to spin a good clean race all mine give that to somebody sir put those spotters right up on top all 42 of them white flag is down and this is it for the money is there enough fuel left in Joe Gibbs car number 18 to take Bobby Labonte to Victory Lane about fuel in these final moments [Music] Sterling Marlin slowing down he's come out of fuel he's dropping back and he's headed on a pit road now they told him he was running 30 Dasia Bob in the body for the checkered flag checkered flag is down and the winner of the 1995 coca-cola 600 is Bobby Labonte waited a long time for this one to come together their champion he's just pulled it off 13th at Sears Point the last time out and he's done it tonight he's given Joe Gibbs a victory in one of the greatest Winston Cup races of the year the coca-cola 600 the some celebration and Victory Lane for Bobby Labonte broke his shoulder at Darlington made the next race at Bristol one time he's a toughy Michael Waltrip will get third tonight Sterling Marlin has to settle for fourth [Music] let's go to Victory Lane was Jeff Gordon winning his very first race at the coca-cola 600 tonight Bobby Labonte What's it feel like to win your very first Winston Cup race well I'd say it's it feels great you know this is uh it's one of those deals where the the crew did it the last bit stopped that got me out in front of Terry you know Schrader had problems you know I don't know what happened to him but he was gonna be tough to beat and but the Interstate Batteries crew did awful awful great job tonight you know I'm just trying to pace myself throughout the night and I got a nerd or a couple of times here didn't mean to I just never had this fast a car here before I tell you you know what he I just let him go cuz I thought well ain't no need to be racing so you know interstates l.e.d.s Goodyear Hendrick Motorsports for the for the great engines Chevrolet food line champion you name it they helped you know I'm just a small part of this great team looking forward to the rest year okay you've got all the sponsors in tell us about the race what kind of race was it for you well the race was uh you know I mean I just you know we just paste ourselves yeah we weren't really wild on shocks this weekend we didn't we spent Friday tested shocks we weren't too sure what what to expect and I thought the first part of the race they're gonna be great but I thought they gave up on us but Pinsky shocks did awful good and I tell you what they're pretty wild so on the graphs are not very not very pleasant looking but we we like them so it's great Bobby Labonte at Victory Lane Turek Benjamin Oh dick Bobby Labonte and his crew certainly deserving of our congratulations great to see that team back in victory lane and congratulations to Bobby who certainly deserved an opportunity to win time now for our liquid wrench slickest move of the race award to the slickest move is brought to you by a liquid wrench given to the driver a team member who makes the best move to help the team on the racetrack this award goes to Labonte and his entire crew for pitstop management there you see one of their stops earlier tonight they had the gas mileage figured out Bobby did not need to come in late at the race he was able to maintain his lead one of many great moves I think that that team made tonight some on track easier talk about his two little skirmishes with Dale Earnhardt earlier kept the car straight got it back going and was able to move on to the victory in convincing style once Kenny Schrader fell out of the events of the liquid ranch slickest moves tonight to Bobby Labonte of the Joe Gibbs Racing team for their victorious effort Randy Pemberton still on pit road for us well we've caught up with the other Labonte you had a heck of a run but you got to be happy for younger brother well I am he did he did a great job and he's done a great job all year they've got a great team and the only been a second a couple times already so it was a well deserved victory in I'd say our killer Chevrolet was good we were consistent all night long we had an ignition go out there about 20 to go and and I thought it was over and switched ignitions and it picked back up but it was a good run for us we're happy with it congratulation a good run Terry thanks Steve Byrnes like Michael watch at the third-place finish McMahon you look worn out yeah just disappointing you know a little bit to have the problems we did and have such a good car you know that kind of takes your wind out of your sails when race is over but a third-place finish is great for the whole team I appreciate Doug and Ron and all the guys they work so hard for me in the say hello to mr. pate who spins off appreciate all they do for us and didn't have a very good day at Indy so we needed to do him some good here tonight we had a real good car lost second first and second gear early on hurt us getting in and out of the pit and then there at the end we didn't oh if we could make it or not and so I was riding around about half throttle just keeping Sterling in sight just figuring I'd pass try to get him at the end and I'll be darned if he didn't run out great run let's go up to Ken Squier all right Pohl field standings on the final lap coming up point standings as well coming up and more from the coca-cola 600 on TBS we're back live at the Charlotte Motor Speedway the coca-cola 600 is complete for tonight congratulations to Bobby Labonte who was badly hurt today he is still in critical condition no real change in his condition head injuries and bad leg injuries - we wish Stan and his family all the best in Indianapolis much more to bring you here as we wrap up our coverage tonight on CBS Sports randypepper dad still patrolling pit lane for us Ricky Rudd is a Roger we're really trying to figure out exactly how this finish came out I know Sterling Marlin ran on the gas began Ricky you're a fourth or fifth yeah I guess one of the other we're really happy you know the tide forward out billing of the whole crew did a great job all day and night and halftime I thought we had something for him you know we ran second a good part of the race led it a little bit but about a half time Chevrolet's I said it's time to go quit playing and they they took off they're in a different league so there's no question in your mind you're still at a small deficit if not a major deficit well I think we're just I think we're a great Ford race team right now and we'd be a great race team overall you know it's like I don't how to compare it it's just trying to race a different class of automobile with downforce it's like the MC cars with the ground effect cars and the non ground effect cars we just can't get through the corners with thanks Ricky Steve Byrnes Randy I've got Sterling Marlin sterling finished fourth tonight sterling how about your evening well it went pretty good with police real bad OnStar the race and I fell way back and the guys under good job Justin on the card look at the run good on short runs you know 20 laps Carver start pushing real bad and just headed back off he's gonna hit the wall and they would play forever got a caution told Ian I think we might have had something but you know congratulate the Bobby in winning race and it's real fast and when you first racing especially here Charlotte but Kodak team done a good job great pit stops enough why don't forward give it all head let's go to Ken Squier and a look at the unofficial results on this coca-cola 600 the Labonte brothers one and two first time that's happened since 1970 one of the Allison's Michael Stirling Ricky Rudd Dale Earnhardt back in sixth position for looking further back Hut Stricklin tonight seventh Lake speed and eighth Bobby Hamilton Ricky Craven Morgan Shepherd Mike Wallace take us back to the 12th position Steve Grissom had a third the Rick mast ended up in 14th Musgrave tonight came home 15 followed by Dick Trickle John Andretti 17th and darrell waltrip with jimmy hensley driving that car most of the way had an 18 spot then there was coke Nemechek Chuck Bown Jeremy Mayfield and even joy and whose cars were all running at the end Robert Pressley Elton Sawyer Spencer Bodine Martin Kyle Petty Schrader and get back here you begin to find those that did not make the distance heartbreaking for Ken Schrader who led so many laps here tonight over 160 laps he had his way so there are the final standings as we say unofficial Chad little retired right off at the start of the race Ward Burton was out early and his brother Jeff at the same time and the old Thunder bat it got all ripped up let's go back down to pit row oh Ken a lot of activity along pit road as these teams pack up and get ready to head to Dover Downs for next weekend's next Winston Cup event next broadcast you'll see here on TBS Sports comes up in July from Pocono International Raceway let's tell you a little more about that event well I'm not sure I ride Jimmy made car and today Bobby Labonte's cocktails but I want to say hi to norm and Tommy Miller from interstate hey those guys made it possible and it really is when you think about from last year and all the trouble and the things he went through last year the Lord blessed us with Bobby somehow that's a miraculous situation to be able to get him from his situation to ours and for us to be standing here new cars new shops new bodies and I tell you it's really a testimony to Jimmy and the team he's put together here and we just say thanks to everybody that's involved with our race team shell has been great and our other sponsors EDS and everybody right on down the line they've made it neat for us General Motors and Goodyear so we're thrilled Randy Pemberton well there's a thrilled little guy by the name of Bobby Labonte in victory lane but this guy right here Hut Stricklin driver the Quaker State forward I know you couldn't be more thrilled for yourself and your entire team great run for you this evening finishing so well thanks Randy you know I tell you my hat goes off to Kenny Bernstein and Richard broom and you know this whole entire quarter state team you know they had enough confidence in me they give me a chance again and you know I feel like I'm getting a second chance driving this car for them so you know my hats goes goes off of them and you know it was a great race for so I wanna wish Bobby Labonte uh you know a lot of success on his victory day and hopefully you know we'll get our first one sometime this year you know clock is coming and you know I want to say right now I won't say happy birthday my mom dates her birthday she's down in Panama City Florida so I'm on okay ditto for us okay Steve Brady I'm with Lake speed Lake you finished hey that's a good night's work at Charlotte Motor Speedway top ten well I see good Lord we got through all the wrecks and stuff that we did and few close calls but the spam melon - you guys have really done a great job and all year long we've had good race cars and we felt like we should have been having top-ten finishes and top five finishes but just seemed like every other time something would happen tonight we finally we got through a race clean we got without any real problems you know no mistakes nothing broke and just had a pretty good solid run the last set of tires weren't quite as good as the ones we've had right before that where we were really moving towards the front but all-in-all we're real real happy to get a top-ten finish and really to get our team enthusiasm built up we're a young bunch of guys that just been put together over over the winter and to be able to get out and compete with these teams that have been running for year and you're your own year after you know we're pleased we're great run as I said a good night's work a top-10 finish let's go to Ken Squier legs at the outset this evening you saw Bobby Labonte looking into Victory Lane hoping for that first win and it concludes with him they're averaging 150 one point nine miles an hour a new record in his 74th start Bobby Labonte reigned supreme over the coca-cola 600 there were 32 lead changes tonight among 12 drivers a fair amount of retirees from seven cautions that took 23 laps but the story tonight was this man Bobby Labonte our thanks to Richard Petty into Ernie Irvan for being alongside in our entire staff for a wonderful evening at Charlotte ken Squier good night
