[Music] cbr unsolved mysteries presents naruto's greatest secrets the long-running anime series has set up dozens of big mysteries over the years but most of them have been revealed kakashi's origins hitachi's true motivations and the true purpose of the akatsuki were all uncovered to us but i can't say the same for every mystery in the series there are secret origins betrayals and character quirks that we may never get the answers to unless we figure them out ourselves of all the ninja that lived before the run of the series few were spoken of quite like hashirama seriously despite the fact that he passed away decades before the series began everyone still talks about him like he's the single coolest shinobi konoha ever had now sure he founded the village which probably helped his rep quite a bit but still no one ever talked about minato like that and they actually knew him as much as his showdown with matara was made into shinobi legend there is one very important part of his story that has been left out we know that hashirama passed at an early age but we have no idea why he had incredible healing abilities fighting skill chakra reserves and was the hokage of a village how in the world did he pass away at a young age if matara couldn't best him and his body was at peak levels of perfection i have no idea what disease or assassin could ever take him down and maybe it was the same heart virus that took goku out in naruto shipuden's second arc the team is given a brand new leader to step into kakashi's shoes while most naruto fans hated yamato on site for daring to take kakashi's place he turned out to be a worthy leader he was a powerful and intelligent shinobi who did kakashi proud that is more than i can say for sai never liked sai now the one thing that doesn't make any sense about yamato is the fact that he can seal naruto's nine-tailed fox i understand how he can do this but what i don't understand is why this wasn't the plan literally the entire time i mean they clearly had the foresight to put sasuke on kakashi's team since he was the only one who could teach him to use his shotting gun why wouldn't they put naruto under the only teacher who could properly keep his demon monster trapped inside him this seems like poor planning ah sakura what more is there to say about how disappointing you turned out to be well apparently a little more while the original batch of episodes made it seem like naruto sasuke and sakura would be a somewhat even trio throughout the series it wasn't long before her teammates took the lead by quite a bit when shipwooden came around it looked like the series was going to correct this by introducing a new sakura who had been trained by tsunade during the time skip she stages a glorious showdown with sasuri and finally gets her time in the spotlight well i hope she enjoyed it because that was her peeking what's weird is that the series sets sakura up to be more of a powerhouse than we see it's referenced several times that sakura has a natural talent for chakra control and genjutsu this would make one think that she would go on to become a genjutsu master evidently those plans were utterly scrapped i think the biggest thing about naruto that still bothers me goes all the way back to episode 1. it is made explicitly clear that the young orphan naruto is a pariah in the village he is treated by his neighbors like he's more of a pest than a human being i know that the nine-tailed fox lived inside of him and that was terrifying but he was also the son of one of the most famous ninja the village ever produced you would think that might even the scales just a little bit i truly don't understand why sarutobi didn't do more to give naruto a home wouldn't it have been better to give naruto a proper family so that he had real ties to the village and didn't one day decide to destroy it using the nine-tailed fox they really lucked out that naruto had such an inexplicably positive attitude according to everyone in konoha the nine-tailed fox is nothing more than a mindless monster that needs to be contained at all costs while a good deal of the series backs this up by showing kurama to be a malevolent presence constantly trying to corrupt naruto eventually the two become unlikely friends this is very confusing considering the fact that everything would be so much better for kurama if naruto was out of the picture in the manga it was recently revealed that kurama could tell that naruto was fighting to keep him out of akatsuki's hands not just to protect the world but to protect kurama himself well this actually brings up more questions about his past than i ever thought to ask kurama clearly responded to naruto giving him the only bit of care anyone ever had was kurama's life before the events of the series plagued by nothing but hatred and violence almost certainly perhaps the vicious monster everyone in konoha was so terrified of was just a mistreated creature forced to become the demon everyone saw him as that or he was just a jerk the senju clan is responsible for several of the greatest shinobi the world ever saw tsunare hashirama and tobirama are all hokage who came from the senju what's weird is that the senju basically don't exist anymore you would think that they would be the clan in konoha but there aren't really any characters who still use the senju name naruto is a show that loves to give a good backstory seriously there are probably enough flashbacks in the series to make a spin-off all its own with so many origins out there it's surprising that there is one huge origin that we never really got orochimaru was one of the biggest villains in the entire series but we still don't really know where he came from we know that he was an orphan like naruto but we have no idea who parented him it can't be hard to figure out who conceived him considering the fact that we've seen exactly zero other pale snake people judging from the person whorochimaru grew up to be it's entirely possible that we don't want to know anything about his childhood no one becomes a snake obsessed mad scientist who wants to conquer his home if he had a happy christmas every year so why can't rock lee use most jutsu i mean there are few shinobi in the entire series who are as dedicated to training as rock lee is you'd think if there was a possible solution to his jutsu problem he would have found it no instead it seems like there's some sort of biological quirk that's keeping him from using the abilities most shinobi take for granted for that matter how did rock lee manage to pass the tuning exams and then become a jonine the ability to use ninjutsu and genjutsu are likely basics for most shinobi to gain those ranks clearly whatever he did in that year put his epic showdown with gara to shame i don't know about you but i'd hate to see it right now after naruto shipuden ended pretty much every character in the series started having children like their 10-year high school reunion was coming up boruto is almost entirely made up of characters who are the kids of fan favorites from the first two series while most of these pairings are given to us there is one mystery parent left unrevealed rock lee's kid aptly named metal lee is a chip off the old block unfortunately it's never been revealed who metal's mother is judging by how much metal lee looks like rockley i think there's a solid chance rock lee just cloned himself somehow i mean whoever the mother is literally none of her genes made it into that kid everyone was obsessed with hitachi before his origins were finally revealed there was a ton of speculation about whether he was really evil or if there was more to the story than sasuke originally thought it turns out that we would get the answers to all of those questions but would be left with a bigger one when hitachi and sasuke had their big duel it ended with itachi withering away from some terminal illness it is never explicitly stated what kind of terminal illness this was which seems odd if sasuke saw his prodigy brother lose everything to disease you'd think he'd want to learn everything he could about it at the very least get some of the medicine he was taking for it and see if you can get a prescription there are several theories ranging from the assumed one where his overuse of mangekyo shotting gun ruined his body to him having contracted a brutal respiratory disease now he tried to contact the doctor to ask about mangekyo shotgun's effects on the human body but they hung up immediately okay i've got to admit something here me and one of my friends had a whole bunch of theories about those akatsuki rings that they made such a big deal about each member is required to wear one and they all wear them on specific fingers this led to us thinking all sorts of things like that they were used for mind control or that their souls were tied to the rings forever or that they were explosives sort of like the ones for the suicide squad that blow up anyone going rogue it turns out that the akatsky rings were just fashion accessories and literally nothing else these rings are just the evil ninja organization equivalent of a class ring and i wonder if they had a nikotsky yearbook as well kidan was voted most likely to be buried alive for all of eternity the shotting gun is one of the most coveted abilities in the naruto world so kakashi basically won the lottery when he received his shot and gun despite the fact that he wasn't in uchiha i mean he only received the shot and gone after losing one of his closest childhood friends who eventually became the ruler of a viciously evil organization but still it was a lucky break while kakashi gained a reputation as the copycat ninja it is made explicitly clear that using the shotting gun is harder for him than normal luchiha it drains his chakra so hard that he was often left bedridden after using it for too long so it's kind of strange that while inhabited by obito's spirit he was able to create the perfect susanoo i mean even if obito's help allowed him to overcome his shot and gun side effects it shouldn't be that easy to master one of the shot and gone's most powerful techniques we saw how hard it was for sasuke to master the susano so it shouldn't have been quite that easy for kakashi to jump right into it naruto shipuden reveals to us that one of the sickest characters in the entire series was secretly the konoha elder danzo this huge reveal really shouldn't have been a reveal to literally anyone who had ever met donzo he spent his entire life vying for hokage even going so far as to orchestrate the obliteration of the uchiha just to take out his biggest threat and increase his powers so if he was so nefarious why did he wait so long to pull the trigger after the third hokage passed away that seemed like the ideal time to take over the village it was even suspected that danzo was somehow responsible for orochimaru's attack on konoha so why did he not take it before tsunade was convinced to take the role it seems like he really dropped the ball on that one probably the biggest mystery hanging over the early days of the show was what kakashi's face looked like he literally lives in a community full of shinobi who have known him since he was a kid why would he feel the need to hide his face weirdly enough this was the one time where the reveal didn't bring any clarity in the filler episode where we finally got to see kakashi's face it was shown that he had a perfectly normal face there was no hidden scar that he was hiding no embarrassing tattoo evidently kakashi just hated his own jawline since he was a child and decided to hide it for literally his entire life all that does is leave me with more questions in many ways and i'm sure most of you will agree with me on this the tuning exam arc is the one where naruto really started it introduced a ton of new characters expanded upon several we had already met and upped the stakes the entire front half of the ark is filled with mysteries hints and clues about whatever serious business is slated to go down with that weird snake guy one red herring of a clue we see early on is hayate's apparent illness he's shown to have a recurring cough and huge bags under his eyes this is commented on by several characters when they first meet him it seemed like this would be a character detail that would be revealed later on or even a hint at the nefarious plan orochimaru was going to enact on konoa it turns out that instead of being some sort of biological warfare rochimaru was experimenting with it was probably just a run-of-the-mill cold hayate could have saved some of us over observant naruto fans some trouble by just drinking some cough syrup evidently naruto shipuden goes to great lengths to show how ishinobi has to make an agreement with a special animal in order to summon it naruto has to sign a contract in order to authorize him to summon giant toads like a mystical terms of service agreement so you'd think that if a show went into that much detail explaining how summons work they'd clearly stick to it right well there's the scene where sasuke summons a random hawk with pretty much no explanation i suppose it's possible that during his time with orochimaru sasuke met garuda and they struck a bargain either that or sasuke just got really inspired by the random eagles from the lord of the rings that came out of nowhere and disappeared just as quickly naruto doesn't really like to jump too much into the biology of its universe but it does establish that the science does exist side by side with the mystical powers the shinobi use one of the bits of science trivia we get from naruto is that the hokage hashirama has the most useful cells in the shinobi world for some reason hashirama cells include all of the abilities he naturally had such as the huge chakra reserves wood release and healing abilities now there are a ton of shinobi who have unique natural abilities but none that are as obsessed over as hashirama i mean orochimaru spent a great deal of his adult life trying to get an uchiha host so that he could gain a shotgun for some reason that is never properly explained hashirama's cells and abilities seem to be easier to cultivate than other people's natural powers both orochimaru and matara have experimented with the cells while leaving many other powerful shinobi alone so across the first two naruto shows we were confronted with this mysterious akatsuki organization and their plans for world domination eventually we found out that their dominated world would just be a huge dream state enveloping every person on earth like the matrix but without keanu reeves now while this initially seems like it would succeed in preventing all poverty global conflict and crime it starts to run into a problem a little further down the line if everyone was trapped in their own dream state literally no one could ever reproduce so while this would save humanity from itself in the long run in the short run it would pretty well doom them to extinction within a generation you know and this is the first time i will ever say this about this but it is a good thing that a goddess hijacked that whole thing otherwise obito and matara were going to be very embarrassed jiraya was known more than anything for two things being one of the greatest ninja in konoha and being one of the dirtiest ninja in konoha all of his exploits were recorded in his book series now this has always struck me as a strange detail is there a secret ninja book publisher in konoha who is distributing his books all over the world is there a ninja equivalent to barnes and noble these are obviously questions that need answers there is one huge mystery that has been hanging over the show since the very beginning one that is in plain sight for pretty much every episode of the first series naruto's jacket for one his zipper is located in the center of the jacket while the rest of it is zipped up even if the zipper goes around the collar it still wouldn't explain where he got the jacket from i mean it is clearly an expensive jacket that's beyond what an orphan could afford not only that but it is a ridiculous choice for konawa's mild climate i mean sasuke is running around with short sleeves and shorts while naruto is dressed like he's about to climb everest it just doesn't add up judging from how naruto wears it every single day and this may be a little sad my guess would be that iruka bought it for naruto one winter when he didn't have a proper coat and it became naruto's favorite item of clothing that is probably all the answer we're ever gonna get well that covers this episode of cbr unsolved mysteries next time we'll cover other great anime mysteries like whatever happened to goten's tale and will luffy ever find the one piece
