My WIFE watches Rush Hour for the FIRST time

[Music] hello everyone my name is holden hardman thank you so much for joining us for my wife watches rush hour currently right now jen and i are on our honeymoon but we wanted to make sure there was no lapse in content so hopefully you'll enjoy watching rush hour with us we ran a poll on patreon and the planet of the apes won so we watched rise of planet of the apes and then it went down to number three after we had filmed it so it looks like we're gonna be interlacing some tarantino movies planet of the apes and rush hour for the foreseeable future until we're done with a couple of those so hopefully you'll enjoy that our mistake ended up being your benefit because you're getting all those movies now rush hour i absolutely love rush hour this is one of my favorite movies i'm a huge huge jackie chan fan and we actually haven't watched a whole lot of jackie chan i don't think we've watched any jackie chan stuff on the channel at all so i'm so happy that we're gonna go this is one of his more like mainstream popular movies but some of his older stuff everyone knows like police story and uh you know all you know that type of stuff but rumble in the bronx you probably might be familiar with this one absolute classic love rumble in the bronx one you may not be as familiar with and it took me forever to be able to find the blu-ray is jackie chan's who am i this is probably probably right alongside rumble in the bronx as one of my all-time favorite jackie chan movies so if you've not seen who am i i highly recommend it some great great stuff anyway rush hour the contrast between chris tucker and his absurdity and loudness and the comedy there mixed with jackie chan's much more disciplined and fighting style and seriousness conflicting with that just makes this such a a perfect type of comedy now i will say that i have tried showing jen this movie in the past outside of my girlfriend watches my wife watches and i was always met with uh aversion so what's up with that sweetie a version you better pick your wordage very carefully i don't know you know i'm not very familiar with jackie chan and chris tucker i've seen like clips from here and there but i just don't know if like the comedy is up my alley it just doesn't i'm a friends person you know i don't i don't i don't know if this is gonna be funny to me it could be it could be i don't know but first look that's just my impression um but i'm i'm going to watch it it just wasn't something that i would i guess choose to watch on my own time so that's what um my girlfriend watches or my wife watches is for so um check it out and i don't know what the story line is at all i don't know who else is in the movie i'm curious to find out i do think that you're going to like it that's my that is my uh prediction of course we can't forget the comment of the day this one comes from captain waldo who says you both seriously have one of the best relationships i've ever seen chandler and monica levels about it constantly this is one that like i can quote a lot i won't be doing that a lot but you know i'm willing to bet you probably still will [Music] let me guess got goosebumps how'd you know brett ratner i get him and brian singer mixed up he did the family man oh i love the family man i know yeah he went through some sexual harassment stuff too that's what i remember recently about him you know who wouldn't do that jackie chan my man is a gentleman i love jackie chan he's like one of my personal idols why i just i i just just for like his acting skills or his i think everything i think that he's just like an extremely disciplined guy i think that he's a very like everything i've seen him in like interviews and stuff he's always very gentle and cordial i like respect his filmography so much you know he does like all of his own stunts and stuff but it's like more than that like he's just wants to push himself he never puts other people down it's only ever to be better than himself you know oh god we're gonna end up with a picture of jackie chan in our house i would i love jackie chan he's like in my top three celebrities i want to meet [Music] oh i've seen him before he was in uh x3 jumping right into it i guess you know okay so that's it [Music] you know what it is why i don't really haven't wanted to watch this because it seems like it's one of those movies where there's not really like a storyline outside of just like the martial arts this one does for sure but uh i love fight scenes but no i like it when it's like sprinkled in not just like consistently the whole movie i feel like it kind of loses its pizzazz if it's just detective inspect lee and his special task force have once and for all crushed the gentile criminal organization hong kong forever to hong kong [Applause] he's from beethoven beethoven too actually he's in the diner you weren't in the dynamite in the back it don't even matter man that's tight that's beautiful that's c4 that's g4 how do all right just finished watching rush hour one of my favorite jackie chan comedies american comedies anyway uh what did you think about it well i'll start by saying it was better than i thought it was going to be i don't think i love it as much as you do but there are definitely some funny points mainly between chris tucker's character and jackie chan just them playing off of each other was really really funny chris tucker like there were points where i felt like he was obnoxious and some of the stuff just wasn't funny but there were other moments where it was absolutely hilarious like the chelsea clinton bit was really really funny i loved jackie chan though i can see why you like him he was really funny i liked him a lot he's also one of those people it seems like he'd be just a cool dude in like real life it very much seems like his personality comes through in his role so i really enjoyed that too it was a pretty simple storyline you know daughter being held captive for ransom i did like that how they teamed up was a little bit odd it wasn't just they were like a team all along so i did like that they changed that up it wasn't as predictable as i thought it was going to be you know it was a a pretty simple movie all in all you know i like the little twist of the friend of the the consulate that actually ended up being the head person jun tao junto juntao that was a surprise i did not expect that at all my favorite thing about it was just jackie chan i thought he was good he was funny it wasn't forced or anything i it was very organic i liked it a lot like i said it's it's not the best movie i've ever seen but i can understand why it's a classic to people i can understand why it's a staple as far as like a comedy movie and i can definitely understand why they would make like a second and a third one so yeah i thought it was a pretty decent movie i thoroughly love this movie this is one of my favorites just like you said the band between jackie and chris tucker absolutely hilarious i don't know what else to add to it it's just other than just i loved it i love watching it again jackie's just one of my favorite one of my favorite guys actors celebrities whatever everything i've seen him in he's always fantastic i loved him in a movie called shanghai nights which is a sequel to movie called shanghai noon the most recent movie i feel like i've seen him in was probably the foreigner which came out it's been a little while now so i haven't seen him in anything in a while but he's getting he's getting up there in age and stuff but his whole story is really fascinating clearly a chance we should watch that on youtube or something there's a bunch of history of jackie chan type stuff but anyway what would you rate this one i thought it was a pretty good storyline the comedy was pretty good really enjoyed the introduction to jackie chan i thought that he was a really good actor my only thing is that there is a lot of like to me martial art scenes like fights and that was my biggest like hold back with this movie it wasn't as much as i thought it was going to be i thought it was just going to be like consistent throughout the movie so that was good i think i'm going to give it a 7.5 yeah that's the thing i wouldn't call this like a martial arts movie really there's martial arts in it and lots of fighting and stuff in it but it's more of like a cop comedy or like a buddy cop type of movie the other ones are similar with the amount we put it on it man i hope you say it we put it man in the poll uh for films to watch i love those movies and that would probably be the first like straight-up foreign films uh that we would watch on the channel but those are like straight up martial arts types of movies and jackie definitely has his fair share of straight up martial art type of movies but i'm glad you enjoyed it 7.5 for me and i realized that there's an element of nostalgia for me i've seen this movie so many times growing up and into my adulthood but you know what i still think structurally it is just a it's a sound movie sound plot line sound narrative pacing is excellent not too much of anything uh not too much martial arts not too much comedy or they mix the comedy well with the drama and the seriousness of what's actually happening um so for me this movie is a 9.5 this is a high one for me jenna's just looking at me and just total disbelief this is a this is solid this is a solid movie 9.5 i have no qualms about that rating i'm sticking with it i'm doubling down on it 9.5 i actually forgot to mention but i was watching the outtakes and i actually thought that chris tucker was funnier in the outtakes than he was in some parts of the film justin even jackie chan there was a lot of funny moments in the outtakes and i really enjoyed the outtakes so just fyi but of course those are just our thoughts if you think that this is jen's first time watching maybe 7.5 might be more of a newbie going into the rush hour movies whereas i who have seen it many times might be more blinded by the nostalgia factor so think it's good but let us know your thoughts on that down in the comments below
