finding a running shoe when you're first getting started running can be quite a daunting task but luckily for you this video is gonna break down five of the shoes that i think will be best if you're a little bit of a heavier runner these might work for you but just keep in mind that no shoe is perfect for everyone you may need to do some testing for yourself but here are five shoes that i think will be ideal if you're a heavier run welcome back to the channel everybody my name is brendan and i want to give you a bit of context on how and why i'm speaking about running shoes for heavier runners about five years ago i decided to change my life i was about 310 pounds morbidly obese for my 5 foot 8 frame and just not living a healthy lifestyle i decided to pick up running and through that i've lost over 150 pounds now roughly anyway i'm sitting up between 165 and 170 and running was really the only exercise i really did through that entire period so yes i attribute all my success to running and actually now i'm completely addicted to running and that's what this channel is focused on is running it's funny how life works when i started running at the heavier runner i noticed that i overpronated quite a bit and what that means essentially is my angle rolled inward and what i found is when i was a heavier runner rolling inward caused a lot of pressure on my knees and my joints and it just wasn't a pleasurable experience so i had to look for shoes that kind of corrected that or made a shoe feel a bit more stable underfoot so i didn't feel like i was rolling all over the place now there are true to stability shoes that will do the job for you but for me i found a lot of those stability shoes the foam in them was just a bit too firm and that in and of itself made the shoe a bit more a bit more unforgiving and didn't feel as comfortable underfoot for my heavier frame just it was too firm so what i decide to do is look for shoes with a bit more of a wider platform and what the wider platform does is make it so that the shoe isn't so unstable but there's not those true stability units in it that will correct your foot strike and stuff that's just what i like to look for through these five shoes you would have a good idea of something to at least go try so with that out of the way let's get into shoe number one starting with the cheapest to the most expensive starting off with the new balance 1080 v11 or the 1080 v10 is actually a shoe that i would recommend because the 1080v11 there's not a whole lot of changes and it is quite a bit more expensive if you can get the 10 on sale anyway so this shoe doesn't have a majorly wide landing platform but through my runs i haven't found it too too unstable so i think this would be an excellent choice because the foam they use in this the fresh foam x i think is perfectly suited for people that are a little bit heavier for me i'm not getting along with it too too well just because it's not as forgiving as i would like but i think that if you have a heavier frame it would definitely do the job just pretty well this shoe comes in at 199 canadian dollars for the version 11 and i've seen the version 10 on sale for 150 canadian dollars which would be approximately 100 to 110 us dollars so the new balance 1080 v10 or v11 definitely worth checking out next on this list is the clifton 7 and this shoe right here guys has been an absolute joy to run in until i tried the shoe that we're going to talk about later on in this list this was my favorite easy day shoe by far and for the price of this shoe it's a pretty darn good deal i think that if you're a heavier runner this shoe will suit you perfectly well the landing platform on this is exceptionally wide like look at that and although it is a neutral shoe it doesn't really really feel like a true military shoe i i still over pronate to this day and i don't feel like i'm rolling around too much it's just been a pleasure to run in and i've had this shoe for almost a year now and i still use it from time to time and for a guy that has over 20 pairs of running shoes when i pick up a shoe after having it for almost a year that is a great sign so yes the clifton 7 coming in at 170 canadian dollars or i think it's 130 us dollars not a bad value at all and worth your consideration coming up next is the brooks adrenaline gts21 and i personally don't like this shoe i really don't like this shoe because it is one of those true built up stability shoes but i included it on this list because this is a shoe that i really did enjoy when i was a heavier runner and my thought is maybe i don't like it so much right now because i'm not i don't need all that built up support that is the only thing that i can think of this shoe does more harm than good on me because i'm a lighter frame now but when i was a heavier runner this shoe was fantastic and actually i ran all of my first races in the brooks adrenaline line it's not the i didn't run it in the 21 but i ran them in the 18 19 and 20 versions and i really enjoyed it so if you like a shoe that has a bit more support if you go to the store and they say you need a stability shoe definitely worth checking out the brook's adrenaline line the foam underfoot isn't super super firm but it's not you're not going to get anything cushiony like you get in the clifton 7 but it's the shoe that i think might work for a lot of heavier runners not for me though this shoe comes in at 170 canadian dollars i think again 130 us dollars so for a stability shoe you're actually not paying too too much of a premium stability shoes tend to be a bit more expensive and well that's just how they get your money we're making quite a bit of a jump in price point here going to the asics gel nimbus light number two now the reason why i like this shoe for heavier frame runners is again because of that wider landing platform it's not a stability shoe but having that wider landing platform really does give you that little bit of stability underfoot i hate using that word but there's no other better word other than stability because it doesn't feel like your ankle's rolling all around and i like i said at the beginning of this video i think that i had a lot of troubles when i was a heavier runner because i was over pronating and there's a lot of force going straight down into that non straight leg it just it didn't really didn't feel great so having this wire landing platform like we have here on the gel nimbus light number two i think will do a great job for you they use a foam in here called flight foam and it isn't a super cushiony foam that you'll get in like the clifton 7 but it does do a fair job it's not super plush but it feels great underfoot there's not a whole lot of stack height here so if you do like a shoe that's a little bit lower to the ground the gel nymph is light number two might be a great choice for you to consider this shoe like i said it does take quite a bit of a price jump this is coming in at 200 canadian dollars and i think it's 150 us dollars so not the best value shoe that i've put on this list but a shoe that i think will suit a lot of heavier runners and coming in at the most expensive slot but my favorite shoe that i've tried in a long time is the nike invincible run guys they use a super foam in this shoe right here called the zoomx foam if you're not a running fan you might not know what the zoom x foam is but essentially it's the foam that nike uses in the racing shoes and elliot kichoge the first man to run a marathon under two hours had this foam in his shoe now the difference between the invincible run and the zoom x in other shoes is the zoo mix in other shoes is accompanied by a carbon fiber plate so it gives that little bit of extra propulsion and stability that you'd want when you're going out to try to run a fast marathon in the invincible run you're just getting a huge slab of that zoom x and what that does is create an ultra ultra ultra cushioned ride guys it's absolutely fantastic for me when i run in this shoe i feel like i'm sinking into it but because of the properties of zoom x you don't lose all that energy you're just kind of it's helping you along to get your run done when my legs are tired i throw the zoom x invincible on and i'm just falling in love every time and again a great thing about this shoe is it does have a wider landing platform in addition to that they have a stability heel cup around here around the ankle collar that i think will help for you heavier runners that need a bit more support i think it's the perfect package but the perfect package really demands to make you cry when you slide your credit card to buy this shoe it comes in at 235 canadian dollars or 180 us dollars i'd recommend this for your first running shoe if you're not 100 sure if you're going to stick with running maybe don't pick up this shoe because you might be wasting quite a bit of money look at the other cheaper options but if you know that you're going to stick with running and you want the creme de la creme premium running experience you can't go wrong with the zoom x invincible i absolutely have loved every single mile i've put into this shoe and if i had this shoe when i was a little bit of a heavier runner god i don't think i would have had half the issues that i had like i was going to physio quite often and i do think it's because of the shoe choice definitely had a big impact and as well some training and all that stuff and heavier runners if you don't train properly and make sure that you're recovering and doing all the other maintenance activities you definitely will have some trips to physio but that's a topic for another video so the zoomex invincible is my favorite shoe and it does come in at the number one slot in terms of price point thank you so much for making it to the end of the video i hope that this helped you make your shoe choice or at least gave you some ideas of what to look for in a running shoe again i'll repeat again i like to have a shoe that has a little bit more of a wider landing platform for inherent stability i don't like built up stability shoes just because they they just don't feel very comfortable underfoot and the foam tends to be relatively firm because i do like having that softer foam underfoot especially when i was a heavier runner now if you've made it to the end and you want to see more videos like this one maybe consider hitting that subscribe button i'd really appreciate it and if you did like the video really appreciate if you could drop a like down below and i will catch you on the next one we have a few fun things coming up on the channel have a fantastic day
