foreign what's up guys welcome back to another episode of Miss flips in today's episode we are doing something a little different and because I just recently reached 8 000 subscribers we are celebrating that by going over my most profitable flips in the past year but let's make a little game out of it so I'm going to show you guys my top 10 favorite picks from this past year and comment down below which one you think was my biggest profit yet foreign starting off our top five we have this awesome transformation that I did back last February for the ugly duckling Challenge and man I honestly forgot how rough this piece was starting out I haven't looked back at this footage since I did it and man was it bad but my neighbor does junk removal for a living and I saw this in the bed of his truck and I just had to get it he offered me 15 for the piece so I was like yeah I am definitely doing it and I knew that it would be the perfect piece for my dupe challenge oh man this was even before I discovered smart strip which if you guys haven't discovered smart strip yet and want to check it out it is an awesome product you can look it up on Amazon or on the web but it is a great eco-friendly alternative to Furniture stripper and it is super effective and has a really easy cleanup with just water and cloth like that's all you have to do is just put water on it and clean it it up with a cloth and you're good to go no chemicals no hazardous stuff you're good if I remember correctly though I honestly think that I didn't leave this stripper on for that long I think I only left it on for maybe like 20 minutes ish when I definitely could have left it on for a little bit longer and I feel like it would have done a way better job at lifting up more of the you know just gross stuff that's on the top and all the finish that it didn't remove when I just left it on for 20 minutes but hey you know what I chalk it up to me having very little experience with stripping furniture at this time thank you foreign thank you for this technique and style I honestly didn't even know whether or not this would work it was kind of just a shot in the dark and it ended up turning out amazing so I was super happy with it but in the beginning here I was just winging it and I was going for this look for the dupe challenge I was duping that piece and I didn't exactly know how to do it without actually using wood so I just yeah winged it and honestly that's been the majority of my career so if you are thinking about flipping furniture or want to try it don't think that you have to know everything before you start just start just do it and the rest will come by the way if you are interested in watching the full tutorials on any of these pieces I included the link in the description as well as in the top right corner of each of these segments so make sure to take the time to add those videos to the queue foreign foreign foreign foreign foreign [Music] to sell the look even more and get it to look even closer to the piece that I was trying to do I exchanged the hardware for a more modern look but I made sure to save the old Hardware because it's low-key really cool and then for the insides of the drawers I just finished off with some oil and finished the whole thing off with some wax looking back over this footage I honestly genuinely enjoyed it so much and I really want to do something like this again because it was so much fun to dupe the wood to make it look like real wood and problem solve on how to create that effect and all of that good stuff I had a blast doing it so I definitely see something like this again in my future for sure the fact that this piece was only 15 definitely helped me keep my profits high on this one and I didn't end up using a whole lot of materials as you can see here these are all the materials that I used and I definitely could have even gotten a higher profit had I used the original Hardware but I sold it on Etsy for sixteen hundred dollars and after shipping it gave me a total profit of a thousand sixty five which is awesome if you don't have an Etsy shop yet I implore you to get one please check out my video on how to sell things on Etsy with this link right here where I teach you guys exactly how to get the prices that you want for the pieces that you make I oftentimes list my pieces on Facebook Marketplace and local things like that and I just can't fetch the same price that I would if I had listed them on Etsy so I highly recommend it go check that video out but in the meantime let's get to our next flip in fourth place we have this amazing mid-century secretary that I got off Facebook Marketplace for 200 and I looked it up on Google lens and I started to see these prices and immediately thought to myself I could make a profit very easily with this piece I knew that it didn't need a lot of work it mainly just needed cosmetic stuff so usually I wouldn't spend 200 but I saw so much potential in it and I knew I could flip it for a quick buck foreign [Music] this was my first time restoring a piece that I didn't use any stripper or sanding or anything like that all I did was remove little blemishes with a magic eraser and honestly just some other small cosmetic things at this point in the process I honestly wasn't sure whether or not this method was going to work for this piece there were still some blemishes on the original finish that I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get up but you know I persevered and just kept going anyways in hopes for the best [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] for the blemishes in the finish I went in with some quenching balm to try to buff them out a little bit and it worked perfectly this stuff soaked into the wood and got rid of all of the blemishes that I was worried about earlier and it looks so much nicer and the wood just looks nice and Lush and hydrated [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign so here is what it looked like before and here are all of my costs listed up for you including the price of shipping of the order and after all of that I still profited 1073 bringing it just over the previous piece making it fourth in line for my most profitable piece I'm honestly so thankful that we're not going for a mid-century look in my house because this piece is gorgeous and I was definitely tempted to keep it it is so beautiful the wood grain is honestly some of the best wood grain I have ever seen and the veneer work I mean God just incredible the Danish really do know how to do it foreign place we have an awesome secretary cabinet that my client commissioned me to turn into a bar cabinet and this one was such an intimidating project I don't think I had ever worked on anything like this before and it was yeah for whatever reason I just found it very intimidating there were a couple of mechanical issues with it as well not these hinges per se these all they had were missing screws and so those were easy fixes however it did have a large chunk of wood missing from it and I'm not a woodworker I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to that stuff so it was definitely testing my my know-how my knowledge and all of my skills that I've learned up to this point there's also just kind of an unspoken pressure when it comes to commissions you really want to get it right you want it to be perfect because not only do you want your client to be happy but you also want them to recommend you to a friend or to leave you a good review or to come back to you for a second piece I feel like a returning customer is the best customer and so yeah there's just a lot of pressure when it comes to approaching a commissioned piece and for me this is where a lot of the intimidation comes from because like I said I've only been doing this for a little under two years it hasn't even been two years yet it'll be two years in March yay but anyways it's still all such a learning curve for me and every single time I approach a piece I learn something new or have to do something that I've never done before and so it's just a little intimidating at times and I feel like I don't talk about that but it's intimidating for all of us even people who seem like they know what they're doing things can get you know a little a little tricky and all of that is okay it's all part of the process and hey look at where where I am now I'm using smart strip in this video already already some growth look at that foreign [Music] [Music] scraping off stripper is just one of the most underrated pastimes of all time I think it is so satisfying and fun to do and just to see that wood grain start to come through out of the old finish oh my God it's so nice um anyways sorry I digress foreign foreign yeah like this stuff right here oh my God it's so satisfying I just put some water on it and cleaned it up with a rag and look how beautifully this baby is cleaning up uh that wood grain makes me want to melt [Music] foreign foreign foreign ature Art Deco style the style that I'm known for and continuously get work for this style is by far the most profitable for me and the most highly requested for me especially when it comes to bar cabinets I honestly have just always been so Drawn to Art Deco style and I think it just reminds me of the Hawaiian tribal that I'm so used to I've been doing this since I was a kid this was in elementary school this was also an elementary school and I did all of these animal kind of tribal-ish patterns all throughout the pandemic and that kind of kept me busy and then when I found Furniture flipping I just kind of Applied that same method but made it into something that was just a little bit more palatable and a little bit more suited to the style that I was doing foreign and give it up for my favorite edit that I have ever done right here wasn't that so cool oh my God man never gets old I could watch that forever foreign foreign [Music] at the time this was my most expensive commission yet I had never charged this much for a commission before but I got my asking price and I was able to profit a total of a thousand five hundred and thirty eight dollars and that is after shipping and after all of these supplies and everything and I could not be happier it is honestly such a great feeling to get what you know you're worth and to have that validated and confirmed by people constantly wanting to buy your pieces and wanting to commission you for your pieces it's an amazing feeling and honestly I yeah I I have Etsy again to thank for this I swear to God it's not an ad I just really like Etsy anyways foreign moving on to our second biggest profit today we have this beautiful bar cabinet that is honestly probably one of my favorite pieces that I have ever done this piece was beautiful and I genuinely felt so privileged to be the one that got to work on this piece because I I love the way it turned out [Music] um [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] told me that she wanted hot pink on the inside of her cabinet I I honestly didn't know what to say but uh you know she's the client she knew what she wanted and I had to trust her her vision her opinion and I went with it of course you know I I gave my thoughts and everything but at the end of the day we decided to go with the pink because it's what she loved and she thought it would go great in her space and I am so happy that I trusted her and honestly that just went and showed me that you know I as an artist do have a voice and should have a voice when it comes to my art and what I create however I have to trust that the client also knows what they're talking about and also has a valid opinion just like I do [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign foreign for the outside of this piece I honestly was really inspired by the peacock feather I wanted it to kind of give that like eye shape and I really loved the the notion of making that into a more angular triangle kind of vibe instead of the usual round peacock feather that you see and I think I pulled it off I loved this design it's one of my favorite designs that I think I have ever done and honestly if I wasn't so gung-ho on not replicating designs I would 100 put this design on everything because I love it this piece honestly surprised me that it was my biggest profit ever because I not only had to pay for the price of the piece but I also had to pay to get it shipped to me from Florida and then pay for it to be shipped to my client which ended up being a whole lot of expenses including the materials that it cost to make but this was honestly the most expensive commission I have ever had at 2 600 meaning I profited a total of a thousand six hundred and Seventeen dollars bringing it into second place even if I didn't get as much for this piece as I did I would still be absolutely in love with this piece I love the color combo with the wood grain with the wood color it's just so rich and vibrant and decadent and I cannot get enough but before we move on to our number one most profitable flip of the past year I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your love and support and thank you for 8 000 and followers you guys have been amazing but without further Ado let's get to our number one most profitable flip of the last year the nightstands I feel like these were the first pieces to kind of get me recognition on social media as soon as I posted the finished product of these I knew I had something special and I knew that people were gonna like it and be drawn to them when it comes to creating a custom design on pieces I oftentimes go with the wood grain and feel out what I can get from there if the wood grain has a certain pattern or a certain you know design on it already I tend to work with what I have and just enhance what is already there but with these pieces the veneer was in kind of rough shape and it wasn't honestly the best quality veneer so I went with what I had which was the pure stature of these these were two very large nightstands that I knew were going to be the focal point of the bedroom and I knew we're just going to draw the eye in so I went for the whole symmetry effect and really worked on trying to get these to be like the the most awe-inspiring nightstands that I possibly could and so I decided to go in for a Sunburst effect that I thought would really enhance the look but like with any piece there is prep work and I had to do a lot with these guys I had to remove these metal accent things and I had to remove damaged veneer clean them off sand them get them down to the regular wood underneath instead of that cheap kind of finish that these pieces tend to have on them which in my case is very important because I like to incorporate the natural wood into my artistic design so whatever design I'm doing I always make sure to have some wood elements in there so I needed it to be down to raw wood so that I could stain it this nice beautiful Rich warm brown color that would go great with the paint color that I chose foreign [Music] [Music] yes [Music] me [Music] ant [Music] foreign [Music] guys before I show you the final profits I just wanted to say thank you again so so much for all of your love and support you guys are incredible and if you guys liked this video please make sure to like And subscribe and do all those things so that we can stay a happy flipping family I love being able to teach you guys and inspire you guys to flip your own pieces dupe your own furniture and just make the world a better place by Saving pieces of of potential trash from the landfill and being eco-friendly and you know all that jazz with a total cost of 854 dollars this piece was definitely unexpected for my highest profit but with my commission rate of 2500 I was able to come in just over the last flip at a thousand six hundred and forty seven dollars if you guys guessed right let me know in the comments and hey even if you didn't guess right let me know I I want to know what you guys guys guessed or thought would have been my highest profit I genuinely love these nightstands so much and so it comes at no surprise to me that these were my highest profits of the entire year I love them and I actually just got commissioned for two nightstands super similar to this and they wanted in this style as well so make sure to stay tuned for that I have some awesome flips coming up for you guys but until next time I hope you guys have a wonderful week and enjoy the rest of your weekend and yeah stay flipping [Music] thank you
