My New Bike and THE STICK - Black Fly HARESCRAMBLE Race - 2021 NETRA

we're racing today at the netra black fly hair scramble oh it's been a while since we've done a hair scramble and i'm debuting my 2021 beta 300 rr race edition that i got from barnstormers off road here we go i signed up for the open a class it is dusty i ran this race a few years ago and it was wet this is real dry i spent all week getting this bike set up it's still not fully vented out i only got a couple hours of seat time on it so we're doing a shakedown test out here this will definitely tell you if you got a loose bolt after two and a half hours to bounce around out here didn't get the best start there so i'm hanging behind here being patient oh wait oh what happened there so this is the classic case of a tree coming out and grabbing you geez hope he's all right so i think we're sitting in fourth right now you know we're settling in getting the feel for the track a feel for the bike you know we have a long time here so i'm settling in hotline hotline hot dog light oh show us the wheel we got a little battling action going on as i'm following pretty close here check this out slow motion this rock boom oh into the wrist into the wrist that hurts that hurts he's trying to take me out he saw me try to pass him he's throwing rocks now i don't i i don't know anybody's name i apologize but as we come through here look at this we got lines everywhere rocks and roots it's technical i'm going this way couldn't squeeze anything out though okay okay so those two guys up in front of me they're battling it see oh look at the line choice i'm hanging back they're gonna fight it out i'm hanging back saving some energy and then there's an opportunity that's what i'm gonna pounce so we're just hanging back right here man uh i haven't raced a hair scramble in a long time and it's fun man what am i what am i doing sprint girls are fun but there is something about banging bars and a hair scramble whoa there okay we we had an opportunity and we got the pass so i think i'm sitting in third right now and really i haven't had to actually work for a pass so we're hanging tight i mean it's just staying steady it's working out notice this look how look i straighten this thing right out i can even straighten that out more this section here was pretty technical a lot of rocks and there's this hill i see this arrow pointing this way so i'm just booking i make the past a second nice the leader is someone you guys probably remember from the corduroy and other videos cam cam harris is on rails he was booked out he's gone so i'm gonna just try to hold my pace hopefully we catch up to him here but oh i set it there arm pump we're coming up all these hills and my arms started to just lock up especially with all these rocks and stuff some i'm trying to relax myself but what doesn't help is that it comes through all this gnarly stuff and i'm just squeezing i am squeezing with my arms coming down a muddy downhill with rocks it's arm pump city i mean this is the recipe for arm pump especially when you're on a new bike and i don't think my handlebar setup was ideal my ergonomics need some adjustment i didn't touch it it's it's just stock it's how it came and they got all these rocks look at all these rocks now it's it's put the arm pump scale up to a hundred the one thing i forgot about these hair scrambles is you don't get a rest at all like the sprint girls it might be a 10 minute 15 minute maybe a 20 minute test where you're just gunning it full out sprint but then you can stop you rest you relax for you know a few minutes between each test i forgot these hair scrambles there's no stopping in it oh burns the arms burn so the arm pump definitely slowed me down a little bit here but i kept i kept going not much action going on nobody around i was out pretty much by myself and mainly focusing on picking smooth lines because i was starting to have flashbacks for when i did this race a couple years ago and i was like oh that's right this is so grueling there is not a single section of smooth flat or straight trail and there's not even a grass track section to catch your breath in nothing eight miles of just non-stop brutal stuff for two hours straight now that's a real hair scramble having grass track brake sections you don't need that this is what it's about but it is rough and i actually kind of wanted one but look at the terrain in [Music] here [Music] [Applause] you go through all that and you see a straight section you're like yes i can rest no look at these we got whoops deep whoops look at the size of these tonys up here there's this deep rut check this out deep sucking rod it sucks you right it deeps it's a deep sucking rut you heard that right i don't have to bleep it it's it's sucking you in so i was thinking i could get a little creative here i went on the inside oh we hit something something hit hit me well look what happened a stick jammed into my tank and it got jammed into my shock i didn't know it i did not know that but we kept going i think almost punctured my tank look at this snot action in here oh spun out on that route it's almost a pass opportunity it was tough because we're getting close to the end of the first lap here and the arm pump was starting to set in severely i'm coming up onto some riders and it's like i just didn't have anything to go any faster my arms were at the threshold of falling off so i just i'm hanging here waiting again for just something to happen so i can i can pass oh i'm setting up i'm setting up for a pass okay no no no we're getting close to scoring here we're come through and i'm in second place in the open a class cam is a minute and 45 seconds ahead of me on a tearaway i was holding out my pace trying to keep it together with the arms normally they start to get better but things were not oh what the heck would that guy come from but i was a little concerned because normally my arm pump starts to go away but i think i just was not comfortable enough and it just didn't it didn't improve hey that's my cook in front of me so mike's out racing i catch up to him here i yelled to him and then he just takes off and i'm like what the heck i don't even know if he knew i was behind him but he picked it up oh i'm going this way taking this line that was worse that set me back that was not the line to take ooh mike making a nice pass on that guy up there so he starts pulling away he starts gapping me and i'm trying to work a line you know make a pass here but i just did i couldn't push much harder at this point my arms they're disintegrating inside line inside i got the pass by the way mike and naca i think you're in a different class they're not in the open a class so it really doesn't affect my position in my class but mike's up there and we literally have been pretty close all all this lap for a while we're hanging hanging tight the funny thing is i don't think mike even knew i was behind him the whole time he had no idea we're in a battle but he doesn't know it look at that line mike taking the high line oh and i i fell right down into the muck oh that guy scared me no no all right get it going get going oh i'm getting sloppy oh wow okay we're slopped out mike pulled away he's way gone i took some breathers there'd be times where i'm just all alone and i'm catching my breath rest in the arms and then i'd be back and pop rip back into it my arms are falling off this was a rest moment my arms are falling off there was a point in the race i think it was a little bit later on where all these four strokes started passing me and i was thinking about i was like those guys are literally just tractoring these four strokes sitting back it's like a harley they hey james they just sit there crack the throttle they don't have to do anything with the clutch and just they got their reclusion they're tracking through i'm kidding i'm kidding i have no idea coming from me on a 302 stroke that's the whole time hey we caught up we come back up the bike we're coming and we're finishing up lap number two and i mean four so i dropped two positions which isn't good so we start lap three oh there's the four strokes oh i'm gonna throw up in my mouth i'm kidding i'm kidding these people mad at me now it's bear barry that's gary at barnstormers off road i combined him he had the beta banner up that's tough thing to say bader beta banner look at me i'm moving a lot faster see i noticed when i did this i just kind of hammered down things felt way better my setup is meant to be going fast not sitting and hurting arms and so the faster you go the better off you are that's a life lesson do that with everything i mean driving on the road whatever it is fast possible so the camera runs out of battery we caught back up to mike at one point and i passed him he had like the stupidest little tip over that i was able to get around him on and then i just rode and i rode five laps and i wanted to just jump off the bike and lay down in a creek and sleep i was out there for two and a half hours bouncing around but i finished third of the open a class 28th overall definitely not my best result and uh while we are breaking in a new bike cam was way up there and unfortunately he crashed and broke his wrist he didn't finish it really sucks because i was hoping to ride with cam this year and hopefully he gets back sooner than later so anyway we had a good day tom had a good run mike adam we all raced it was good time so i hope you enjoyed it we'll see you on the next one thank you
