I've had a lot of people ask me if I would make a video about my NES collection well here it is at this point I own everything I ever played as a kid every game I ever owned or rented or played at a friend's house but now I find that I'm drawn by the 8-bit miracles I've missed and that certain flavor of gaming that only the NES provides I started with a handful of childhood favorites and over the past few years my collection has grown tremendously some of my most cherished memories involve the NES sharing punch-out codes on the playground receiving games for birthdays and Christmas starting Nintendo clubs and of course playing games then there are the simple memories that any child of the NES can appreciate holding an original box just like you did as a child flipping through a manual pulling a game from its black dust cover home nostalgia drives me to collect of course the NES library is full of classic games like The Legend of Zelda Contra punch-out and the Super Mario Brothers series but some of my favorite games are less well known games like zexis which is really two games in one as it expertly ping-pongs between platforming and shoot-'em-up stages and little nemo the dream master the colourful dream world where the pajama-clad nemo merges with animals and acquires their abilities by feeding them candy and metal storm the clever gravity flipping high-tech action-packed shooter but for every treasure on the nes there are also a handful of turds notorious games that were rushed to release or banked on a licensed games like deadly towers which should be called boring repetitive impossible towers since even if you wanted to you will never ever complete it kids tried and lied to themselves trying to like it but ended up hating uncle Ted for gifting them this terrible turd for Christmas and Friday the 13th which I relentlessly played as a kid hoping against hope to squeeze out a drop of fun nope just turd and games like xenophobe but I don't even want to talk about that one some games had horrible box art hikes I guess Mega Man 1 is the most notorious launching a new series with artwork this atrocious is almost unforgivable it's a miracle we ever got a sequel and I can't imagine the marketing genius who thought this was a good idea what young kid would look at this and beg their mom to make the $50 purchase and what's with the alphabet then there was iron sword wizards and warriors too it wreaked of a romance novel with a shirtless muscular Fabio's hair waving in the wind this one isn't exactly box art but it was just weird I mean if this is so important how are you supposed to see it when the games in the system I don't expect to ever own any ultra rare games like the pan-asian games the crappy multicart compilations or anything with the words events or Championships and if I ever find one of these games I'll probably sell it and buy a new car most of the rare games I do own were purchased at amazingly low prices games like gem fire gargoyles quest to north and south and Donkey Kong jr. math which may or may not be the greatest games on earth but I bought them together for only 24 dollars or ducktales 2 which is rare and quite fun I resisted buying it for several years and finally stumbled upon it for $5 at a swap meet other rare and uncommon games like Tengen Tetris scat and rescue rangers to our esteemed so highly that I ended up buying them outright and I'm glad I did every systems library drips with you Gaming trends that were popular during that system's lifespan the NES is no exception for many the NES is closely linked to Capcom's disney games as they were guaranteed gaming gold other trends include light gun games and educational games of course the NES also has its peculiarities the games for example came in a wide variety of shapes and colors these unlicensed games which never got Nintendo's official seal of approval add a unique charm to collecting for the NES most of them are turdy but some of them are fantastic and I'm glad to have them with over 700 titles in the NES library some of them were bound to get strange names kid Nicky radical ninja crashing the boys Street challenge starship Hector okay and who knew that Islands had adventures then there's this why I don't even know how to pronounce it but just to confuse the crap out of little kids they also use the most ambiguous font ever G e h or is it k e o that's an e so the other one must be a C thanks culture brain but nothing compares to the crappiest titled game of all scat I usually run from sports games like the plague but on the NES I like to try them out back then kids didn't care much about licensing and developers weren't flooding toy stores with annual roster update rehashes instead the NES was graced with simple fun arcade e experiences they're usually pretty fun the NES wasn't the first video game system but it astounds me how much the industry owes to the little gray toaster the standardization of the d-pad battery saves and password it's pause screen inventories and most importantly hidden secrets plus several enduring franchises were born and thrust into the mainstream on the NES Ninja Gaiden Castlevania contra Final Fantasy Kirby Zelda the Dragon Quest or Dragon Warrior series Mega Man Metal Gear and of course Super Mario Brothers I hope you enjoyed this little collection overview and I hope that it's brought out some nostalgia about you youth or maybe inspired you to collect yourself anyway thanks a lot for watching til next time
