My Husband Paints A Dresser / Modern Makeover

let them do it let them have the have the challenge of upcycle this week i feel i feel really confident but the last time i tried the paint did not go well the it's dripping in i don't even know how to fix this that sucks oh my god and i'm just trying to forget that and uh just think that i've been recording two years plus of chalk paint videos and i know what i'm doing this time no i'm going in with that mentality but i know it's not gonna happen i know i'm gonna mess up but i think i'm gonna do well clean it clean it from the jar hurry up hurry up i'm going in by confidence too i mean after two and a half years of watching her paint and picking up a couple tricks or two i think i think i can do this hello everybody my name is katja and this is my husband carlos this week we're doing collaboration with christina and ryan from the recline heirloom this week i will be painting and my wife will be filming so it's going to be interesting um good luck to ryan and good luck to me [Music] i'm gonna be painting this wigger dresser this is what i chose for the project it is dirty as of no cursing on our channel it's super dirty look at it it's super dirty it's got cigarette stains it's got i don't even know what that is it's really dirty even inside it's in good shape so there's a plus it's in good shape it's just that one's not so bad this one has some stains it's really dirty but it's fine because my plan is to clean it because you always start by cleaning and then i'm going to bleach it i'm going in very confident every time i go into paint i go in very confident and how that goes it always comes out horrible it always it's never what i think it is but i've been filming for another two years now nothing but paint videos i'm again going in confident let's see what happens [Music] i'm done uh i took out the hardware and now it's time to bleach it so i'm going to bleach it but i'm going to do two things with the bleach it's going to hopefully remove these stains that's my goal and then i'm just going to leave it out in the sun and it's also going to wash the wicker [Music] it's working so i ran into my first problem this wicker everywhere i bleached is lifting up i hope that's because i wet it i'm gonna let it dry and see if it goes back if it doesn't i have no idea what we're gonna do so we've had a change of heart i think what's happening is the last time i did a cane webbing project with my wife we wet the cane webbing and it was wobbly for a little while we let it dry overnight and it firmed up i think what's going on here is that the cane webbing is just wet and that's why it's warping but when it dries it's going to go back to being flat so instead of just waiting around to see what happens i'm just going to bleach the entire thing [Music] [Music] a wet cloth over the bleach i'm done bleaching and uh i'm tired and uh starting to have doubts because a lot of those stains are not coming off i'm starting to think we're going to need to wash or paint the wicker parts but what i'm going to do now is crud cutter and clean all the other stuff that i didn't put bleach on [Music] day two we woke up this morning to a very scary scene it was all still wobbly i thought i lost the furniture but we let it dry about three more hours and it flattened out and tightened up thank god but as you can see it's still dirty um that's not dirt that's stained it's still yeah stained so i'm gonna do a wash so for the wash actually for my colors i'm gonna go with this i'm gonna go safe and i'm just gonna use neutrals i'm gonna do the wash with this color and i'm gonna paint the piece with this color that's the plan but the plans change real quick around here every step it seems like and i got this zebra brush kit which is great because it comes with a bunch of brushes that i don't even know which one to use i don't know what to do here they're all cool this one can i use this one and zebra is one of our new sponsors so definitely check out their brush kits we will leave the links in the description wow this is thick you can do it i'm going to dip the brush in paint and i'm going to dip the brush in water and then i'm just going to go no first make your brush wet okay but you don't want to be draping now get your just [Music] and just go or wet it again what do you think go you want thicker one to hide the stains let's do it oh look at that i'm just hoping this hides to the stains you see the stain yeah put thicker paint there [Music] well i think if i go up and down i get in the things better so your the wash is coming uneven because you are working with weaker so i suggest you dip your brush now in water get full of water and spread all that and even try spread it i can't see [Music] yep that's much better you're putting too much paint in some areas and i'm gonna do your trick with the water and spread it around you see you know what you'll see i'm pretty sure that it's horribly uneven and you're dying inside i am all right i'm done spreading it what do you think i think it looks uneven what should i do more spreading you should uh put more paint in some areas okay get that paint that you have in container for some more paint there or so not so much that's great okay so now that you got their paint pour some water directly in there that's good and now mix that up i think you need more water put a little bit more water then there we go so now go from all the way from one side to the other side uh that's a little complicated to work like that here you go that you see much better how do you feel about white wash it's going mate much better now it's got to learn from the pros what's happening nothing i kind of figured it out you just need a lot of watery paint so now that i've got the hang of it uh you just want to use watery paint to do wicker and it's much easier you can see these drawers some i might have too much paint on some we'll see when it dries uh it's definitely not as easy as my wife makes it look but with this new technique it's much easier i was so worried about the borders at first and i don't know why because we're going to paint over them so we'll call it done for now the white washing it's all bubbly but that's going to change now i'm going to paint the wood border parts so now for my color i'm using pond and i'm going to use this chiseled seems like a good choice [Music] let's do it [Music] well it's a lot of paint you have too much paint okay i'll just that's too thick my paint is too thick and uh it's dripping in i don't even know how to fix this that sucks oh my god oh my god i think this brush is like too fat for this it's hard to control so i actually like the palm pro it's like thinner and i feel like i'm gonna have better control because i just messed all that up so i'm gonna not use the wedge i can't i doesn't focus thing it's i'm having a very hard time i would rather film than paint i would rather paint it so hard [Music] i'm gonna have to use the detail brush or something i don't know how i'm gonna get so into there you have your paint dripping here no i was trying to collect the paint yeah and if you don't have so much pain from the beginning that won't happen so i hope you learned your lesson oh my goodness it's hard i think i think i should have saved that line for the end when i had some practice look you have lines unpainted here oh my god can i just do it with a detail brush of course you're in this is just not good [Music] [Music] look at all those bubbles there you go that's how i do like i have to move my body away i don't have control of my left hand like that look at that [Music] try this square wedge tighter oh yeah that's much better [Music] there what's wrong with it why didn't you stay in line you went over the line you can't be sailing dressers like that no one's gonna like that's the side nobody cares about the side of the drawer there's a bunch of things sticking out i didn't clean this very well i'm on my fifth drawer and it's definitely gotten easier what do you think of that perfection look at you i feel much better i'm noticing a build up here a big buildup right there and pretty sure buildups have never hurt anyone right there the first coat is done that was a lot more difficult than i thought it would be the second coat is now going down but i feel much more comfortable and i'm using this brush i should have used this brush the whole time [Music] that was cool but you see how hard it is to squat and paint too you wouldn't be squatting right now you would have the chair and i would be complaining that we needed because you're a gentleman and you would say we don't need a new chair so now i'm going to attempt to fix the wash just make more watery paint oh look at that there you go that was easy okay perfect oh no clean that let better clean all right [Music] i need to let everything dry so that i can protect everything and then i'm going to add something to the sides of the drawers and i'm going to guild the hardware and that should be it that should that should be it i'm going to use a vintage gold for it so this should look cool because i'm going to put some on my brush you like it yeah that's nice yeah that's nice i like it this is uh very pigmented that's why i love it so much now i'm gonna protect the piece with varythin polyurethane um and i'm just gonna use this uh two inch should be this is just like a back and forth motion so i don't expect this to go so bad i just know from watching you that this is just like long and straight now we get to find out what happens when you put poly on wicker or at least i do it's probably someone out there saying no no what are you doing oh the writers are [Music] take the towels under you you got the thousands oh my goodness idiot what are you doing carlos is that too much clean your face i'll tell you just no no with that towel [Music] oh my god let me get you a towel look clean your face you got it on your face oh my goodness look at this even i got some on my shoes what not to do with painting furniture oh my god hold your polyurethane oh my goodness what i thought was the easiest part turns out to be a lot of work as well it's the third time i almost ruined the dresser okay i'm gonna put this stencil on the sides and i'm gonna use the same gold that i already use that is from redesign with prima another primo product this one's probably one of my favorites to watch my wife use i like the idea so here we go let's do it but that one you don't have to dub what do i have to do you can just spread all around let me see what's happening oh nothing you can't see it instead of uh gilding wax that didn't work i'm gonna use a roller redesigner primer roller and my fawn color much faster this is much faster [Music] oh that sucks it's horrible that's horrible i think i'm going to scratch this plan this is not good [Laughter] every step gets worse the i think it gets easier and easier i thought this was going to be shaking i thought this was going to be the easiest part of waxing and stenciling the easiest thing was putting gold gilding wax i got to say if you're a beginner just guild everything it's so easy to do just gild everything it looks so cool this this is not gonna work so [Music] i think it's done i think it's done day number four we were able to dry the wicker and uh it flattened out it's stretched back out uh thank god for that i'm going to now put the hardware back on put the drawers back in and we're done as you can see i've already put two and it looks really nice wow i love the combo so much yep definitely a bunch of mistakes this is definitely the easiest part i love so much the color combination now with the gold it's just perfection i do like that too but i know i was just trying to stay safe wards are upside down really it's custom custom design blue likes it blue likes anything blue you like the screwdriver he likes everything yup he does [Music] i love the design [Music] oh it's pretty my dresser [Music] i'm glad that i have a piece that at least can fool you and make you think it's good work but it's definitely not the quality my wife would provide and i learned a valuable lesson in life [Music] confidence is good but don't fool yourself look this is what happened this is my piece hey that looks good it's it looks good from far like there's like look if you just zoom in to like the edges it's horrible oh the bleach didn't work nothing worked nothing that i wanted to do worked yeah everything went bad but you know what carlos at least you tried that's exactly what the whole challenge was about yeah yeah our video was like a comedy let me see your piece you probably killed it so those are the end tables wow they were just regular boxes and i did a decoupage on there and this this turned out i was really surprised that it turned out i just basically used tile adhesive and we hope you guys enjoyed this video this was the point of this video was just to have fun and do a little challenge change the seats the seats yeah change positions switch roles yeah that was the
