My Garmin Inreach Malfunctioned & Initiated a Search & Rescue For Me | Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike

good morning my eyes got red and painful in the middle of the night so I had to switch to glasses again this three hikes almost over um yeah I'm really just sitting here putting off getting ready to hike because I know my socks and my shorts and my shirt are going to be soaked but it's almost seven o'clock so I want to get going and I want to make it to Rangeley today so I can try everything out again so I can hike on and then get soaked it's just a just a cycle there's the shelter and I think are already getting wet and muddy but I was looking at the far out comments today and it seems like the climbs I have are today coming up are the least technical climbs we've had in a while so my mom I think is gonna get to Rangeley at six o'clock tonight but maybe I can make it there quicker than that and have some extra time so fingers crossed I lost Wordle today so it can only go up from here right I tried to cross right there and I got like a third of the way and got scared and then came back so now I'm gonna rock up until I get to that area where it's not flowing as much I made it across but that was actually really cold and the water was up to my Shores so another sketchy River Crossing done now I just gotta find my way back to the white blazes my glasses keep fogging up so I want to change into my contacts I went to put my glasses in my glasses case and it's not there anymore so I think they're probably down the river somewhere so that stinks lost my glasses case and my sunglasses were in there too but honestly it's I'm not probably gonna need my sunglasses for the rest of Maine if we keep up with this weather but that really stinks so I guess my glasses will just go there I'm thankful my glasses weren't in the case when I went down the river because these are much more expensive to replace the gutters are only 25 bucks but oh well I mean I sell them at my gift shop so I'll just get another pair when I go home I'm hiking up Bemis mountain right now this is the mountain that people were saying in far out is the Elise technical climb we've had in a while and I agree we even got a little staircase going but it is long I still have to climb over 2 000 feet of elevation gain until I get to the top and I'm sure I'll have a nice lunch break so it's pouring nutshell but I'm probably like halfway up this time now all right made it to the summit of Old Blue Mountain that was the second half of that climb was tough and it was just down pouring uh I feel like I just jumped in a lake but at least it's not too cold and I'm assuming that the climb down isn't going to be too fun because the whole Trail was a waterfall and literally knee-deep in mud right now because these the bog Bridges half of them are broken they just like collapse under your feet and then when they're angled like that they're super slippery so like there's nothing there Here I Go Again oh my God some beef jerky and cheese I think I said the other Mountain was Bemis Mountain but this is the actual summative famous mountain I'm hanging in there oh this was off and then oh gosh so I'm wearing my wireless earbuds and my phone starts ringing and I don't know who it is I'm assuming it's chat because he always calls me around this time uh so I just hit the button on the side of the earbuds and I say hello and guy says I'm Justin from I didn't understand and then I just said ah I can't hear you because it's down pouring and I just thought it was spam so I hung up and then my mom calls me and apparently she's one of my emergency contacts and she said that emergency services called her and said that they're sending rescue for me like like wasn't even on everything is just wet and has a mind of its own right now but like I never lifted that flap to call SOS so I don't know what happened and I just saw a hiker drawing Sobo I'm like if you see search and rescue tell them I'm fine oh gosh I feel so bad I mean I wish I could get risky right now to be honest just take me off this mountain a couple more miles thank you okay there was just a pop-up saying asking me if I wanted to cancel the SOS and I hit yes and I'm hoping that goes through if you're still frustrating um ized Mountain second Peak okay 3.1 miles left um I don't know where to go I don't my garment was not on um and it won't stop ringing
