My Father Sheikh Ahmed Deedat by son Yousuf Deedat

[Music] chef Ahmed Deedat is my father and I'm proud to have a father who did so much for Islam he was born in India on the 1st of July 1918 in a district corn syrup his mother tongue at that time was Gujarati so we at home speak Gujarati which is our mother tongue at the age of nine his father was already in South Africa trying to earn a living trying to get some money so the father has the tailor in South Africa called Ahmed Deedat over and it was the first time in his life that he obtained a passport a British passport because at that time India was controlled by Britain and he told me that Yousef it was the first time in my life that I saw the ocean the sea it was the first time in my life that I boarded a ship I never knew what a ship looked like and he came to South Africa his first step into South Africa created problems and the problem was that the South African government at that time realize that these Indian workers were calling down the youngsters and not the mothers so the past is circular that this is the deadline from this day onwards no youngsters will be allowed in South Africa if they are not accompanied by their mother Ahmed Deedat arrived one day late at the Durban Harbor and miraculously he was an only child on that ship who somehow the other came and landed his foot into South Africa and that was done because his father who say indeed it was aggressive man a very forceful man so he went onto the ship held his son ahmud and walked down and the custom officer said hold on hold on and he said no I'm not listening and he passed the custom offices that alone was a berikut from allah subhanaw taala ahmed became very close to his father because that was the only hope and support he had he began to school and he went schooling and soon he learned within a few months that his mother had passed away now he was one step and often but he carried on schooling and it came to a stage where he needed to go to a higher level of education which was standard six higher grade and he was some businessman who said don't worry Ahmed go to school and we will pay the fees so I made went to school for a few days and when the teacher asked him Hamid we is your fees he said sir I will bring the fees tomorrow and when he went to the businessman the businessman said I was only joking another depression so what he had to do was to go on the outskirts into the country shop and learn to do work for somebody so he worked in a the shop about 30 kilometers away from the city of Durban known as Adams mission station opposite the shop there was a missionary school where they trained Africans to do missionary work the white man in this country is very intelligent in the sense that he knew that one day when democracy is going to come to this country the mind will be still enslaved to accept a white man as God so these Africans began to train on Ahmed Deedat seeing that this guy had a headgear Ahmed Deedat selling them sugar salt they used to come and ask him questions hey Muslim did you know about your Prophet Muhammad that he spread the religion by the sword he told the people if you don't accept Islam will chop off your neck I might ahmadiyya he wanted to read he reads everything and one day while rummaging through a pile of newspapers in his boss's warehouse he found a book called his Herald Huck the truth revealed in that book made interesting reading because number one he had a British passport British conquering India it was about the same thing British conquering India and the British realised that if anybody is gonna give us trouble it will most certainly be the Muslims so how do we enslave the Muslims intellectually you have to demoralize them so what the British did was they trained alliums mallanna's in Christian theology to debate with Muslims in their mother tongue my mother tongue Gujarati so every mother tongue they were trained so my father is reading this in the book that hey this mallanna was questioned and this is how he answered and the mallanna is always very good at hamdulillah and he enjoyed it he said hey this is how I should answer this book inspired him to go and purchase the Bible now you have to my dear brothers have a Bible in every Muslim home that is the weapon you have to know how the other party thinks about you what ammunitions you have on their side that you can use to enjoy it this is mashallah it's fun so he goes to the church on Sundays and he asked the priest yes sir I want to know about Christianity how come Jesus Christ is crucified way is it in the Bible and when the priest shows him the debt has a counter-argument from the Bible not on the Koran because they don't believe in the Quran they don't accept mohammed rasoolallah son as a last and final messenger of allah you have to get the weapons of your enemy and that is what inspired shared the dead the joy the pleasure this was his hobby this was his hobby and alhamdulillah you so here we are again about Sheikh Ahmed Deedat he began to talk and talking became his hobby and he began to put adverts in the paper about the Quran now he's even purchased a Quran attorney yourself the best investment I have ever done was first just the Abdullah use of Ali's translation of the Quran if it was the only Quran I would have kept it under lock and key and not showed it to anybody he told me that because then now the Quran began to inspire him he began to read and understand through the translation that hey this is what I should be doing and he began to give talks firstly general talks in unto them all that I command unquote that Bible verse in every lecture he used as an opening of his lectures in halls and as he began to talk shanky dad always said the tongue is the only organ of the body that's gets sharper from use everything else get blunt the tongue gets sharper and he began to talk and it became so sharp that he now began to hire big halls venues in Durban the city hall I'm don't you ever take this guy on I should bring the tapes me and my mother used to sit with my dad and we should watch Jimmy Swaggart tapes and believe me my dear brothers one lousy this guy could speak he should make us cry it was almost Islamic his theology was almost Islamic but his conclusion was Jesus Christ a man God everything he spoke oh we should make us kind and I should tend away she should move I should tell my dad be careful daddy don't take this guy on you could take the world on but don't take this guy on and it so happened that allah subhanaw taala went and proved me wrong i should help my father in the office then slowly i should help my dad in the office and i got close to my father still not so much agreeing with my father's methodology and one day I heard that he booked a ticket to America to go and debate with Jimmy Swaggart and believe me my brothers and sisters I came home shivering what la thinking that this is one day that my father is going to lose and I accompanied him to America and you know the result of the debate [Applause] mr. swagger is there anywhere in Old Testament that says that Prophet Muhammad will come after Jesus thank you [Music] most every religion tries to find the Bible and somewhere in their teachings and their beliefs and so does the Quran it tries to say that it is mentioned in the Bible or Muhammad is mentioned in the Bible but Muhammad is not mentioned in the Old Testament I know you're referring to the book of Deuteronomy but he's not mentioned that passage is referring to the Lord Jesus Christ totally and completely Muhammad is not mentioned anywhere from Genesis to Revelation [Applause] I've made what the Muslims have to say about the fact that people are healed in Jesus's name I have no hesitation in accepting genuine or not outcome of the debate elevated him to the Arab world with the saw him as a hero as a man who could pick on America a man who could speak the young Arabs they wanted a hero because they they had known the Americans where the heroes at that time when oil was discovered and the American companies went and helped the Arabs to get rich they became the heroes and here comes this Indian from India and knocking the hell out of this white man in his own town alhamdulillah it inspired me so much and it gave me so much of pride and thankfulness to allah subhanaw taala that i had a father who was discreet all these turbulent years later Sheikh Mohammed Edith warned the King Faisal award and Yusuf were the only person were company his late father to Saudi Arabia to collect the award in 1986 it was in 1986 that I got a wake-up call and that was when my father warned the King Faisal award for service to Islam and the Saudis and they asked my father how many sons do you have mr. Deedat and he said to my eldest one is Ibrahim my youngest one is Yousef he said well we want to send them a ticket as well so my father that evening came to me and said Yousef would you like to go to Saudi Arabia with me I said no what I'm gonna go and do in Saudi Arabia he said I want the King Faisal award and they would like to meet you to accompany me I was very reluctant because firstly I don't agree with check didn't secondly I want to use him and go on a plane ticket oh it's not fair so when I met my friends they asked me Yousef did you ever travel on the airplane I said no in my life we come from a humble family we are not financially capable of flying around in the world so as the friend said take it man go on a real airplane trip so alhamdulillah I accepted a trauma dokey Olie company you and we went to Riyadh the capital of Saudi Arabia we were met by VIPs all this didn't mean anything to me we were at Alfa's AMA Hotel five-star hotel in Riyadh and they I said and I noticed all the expect treats coming to my father kissing him massaging his hands I thought to myself man this is worse this is idolatry this is not time because that's my upbringing we don't touch one another that was how we were brought up and you know they are kissing and her father was rubbing his legs but one thing I noticed that when in local Arab walked in all those expatriates disappeared and I used to submit one day a minister walked in expected through all around the father and they telling him mr. Deedat because of you our respect has been elevated in this kingdom I didn't understand all that when Arab Minister walked in and he sat down and I was sitting not far away from my father and all the expect is disappeared and all the Arab delegations settled and then this added minister asked my father mr. that I please help me to stand by my father to help him because this was no ordinary man that was the day I saw that he was no ordinary man that was the day he changed my life I dropped everything but ever my father said I heard I began to hear and I'm telling the youngsters today if you have a father and a mother please don't lose out you will never get another chance in your life to honor them kiss their foreheads and don't leave them away don't let them be alone for a minute for you will most certainly regret it that they did leave this world I can proudly tell you my dear brothers I have no regrets that my father and madam that this world I was honored I was the only person who never rushed to carry the janazah who I carried my father while he was alive I watched my father while he was alive I did everything for my parents and I'm proud that Allah has blessed me with those burdens who is so great and all of you who love our MIDI debt if you don't love your parents you are not your house my dear brothers and my father not having any control of his faculties of passing out it is no joke believe me it is really no joke it's a wake-up call because we went into the new world it was a new world and we took him to the hospital and the hospital the best hospitals in Durban the intervener hospital the best neurologists in Durban told us that your father will only live for 10 days rest and shock 10 days is all we have with your father so I was I came back home panting and I made telephone calls to my friends in Saudi say please help we need help now firstly we're not well-to-do we were poor and we know that the hospital bills will kill us as well but nevertheless alhamdulillah we need help and alhamdulillah I phoned Saudi Arabia and the defense minister Prince redundant Salman he sent his medical jet to pick my father up and take him to Riyadh I accompanied my father and my mother also accompanied my dad and we were in Riyadh Saudi Arabia for 10 months and the treatment in that period of time we were taught how to take care of my father in that period of time we learned how to communicate with my father and that was a new chapter that opened our life my father learned to communicate and at that hospital things began to happen from the day we landed it began to change our life we met the European lady and the first thing I asked her she was a nurse in the ICU at the King Faisal specialist hospital and the first thing I asked after we are you from she said Sydney Australia I said man this man Ahmed Deedat my father was in Sydney Australia just a month ago she said is this the man I said why he said I was supposed to go to his talk and my mother said don't go to those Muslim fanatics talks and I never went I said I'll handle it now look at this so I presented her with the tape of Easter a Muslim group viewpoint then in Sydney Australia and believe me it changed her life she sent the tape to her mother as he said mummy this is the man who spoken he's with us in the King Faisal specialist hospital first stage second stage the Saudi government appointed their best neurologist to take care of my father and this man was a German you know the Germans they are proud they worked hard but this German doctor dr. moonda was the only doctor in the whole hospital that wore a bowtie and when he walked the nurses disappeared and they appointed this man to take care of my father a man who was so cheeky who won't smile in the first day when he came into the ward and he held my father's him and he pushed it down I said to myself yeah Allah what have you done why couldn't they appoint the Saudi doctor to take care of my father but in Allah's wisdom he was a plan as allah subhanaw taala says or mccormick or allah w'allahu harumaki reign he's the best of planners and we couldn't see a last plan and as time went by Monta was a man most feared in the whole Hospital nobody could phone him even in a case of his emergency one night having spent two three months already in the hospital one night my father developed septicemia septicemia is blood poisoning and when you get bad poisoning dear brothers and sisters it is serious the symptoms are you shiver and you feel hot hot rashes and you shiver and you feel hot flashes we didn't know what was going on the middle of the night a mother phoned dr. moonda and she told him dr. uncle is very sick please come and believe me this man got up middle of the night which he never does he came and he activated the whole hospital the next day the hospital was all concentrating on shag didn't and when I met dr. moonda he told me Yousef your father is very serious when a man walking get septicemia he hits the bed but there when a man in bed hits up to see Mia he hits the grave but we are here to save lives and the whole hospital worked for seven days continuously and suddenly my father recovered and moonkam wind up to my father dr. moonda went up to my father and said I'm happy to see you so my father told him at that time it could communicate now very efficiently my father without opening his mouth just with the eyes and a computer a father told him my dear doctor I'd like to dedicate something to you so dr. moonda said ok you serve write it down so my father dictated and this is a poem I don't want any one of y'all to forget this is the form of other detail and it went like this I've memorized it Abu Ben Adam may his tribe increase awoke one night from a deep sleep and in the middle of the night has seen an angel writing in a book of Col Abu Ben Adam went up to him and asked what write is Dow or angel of God and the angel said the names of those who love Allah and a bourbon Adam asked is my name day and he said nay and flew away the next night he was woken up again and saw the same angel writing in a book of gold above and Adam went up to him and what the writers down our angel of God and he said the names of those who Allah has blessed and when abou been Adam looked his name did all the rest and my father told him doctor Monta you are the one who Allah has blessed and from that day Monta he was so close to my father my father presented him of the Quran Munda had questions now first he said I'm here for ten years in Saudi Arabia what is this call Allah but that every time I'm watching television when that car goes the television goes off the Sun goes on members program did not explain to him the meaning of the Sun he said I'm here ten years nobody presented me with the Quran my father presented him of the Quran in Saudi Arabia a paralyzed bedridden man presenting a Quran then he had a final question on my father he said I am one of the top neurologists in this hospital but I can't go to makkah and madinah the hospital of makkah which is right on the border where non-muslims are not allowed I can't go there because I will not Muslim what type of religion is this and even that my father gave an answer then monta became really close with my father they were the best of parents they couldn't do without one another when we left Saudi Arabia Boonta walked into the ward with his hand behind his back and he came to my father and with tears in his eyes told mr. Deedat we are trained not to get close to our patients but I haven't brought one thing for you and he gave my father a rose and we all in the ward cried huh and my father cried he said this is all and he never turned his back on my father he gave the rose and he walked backwards out of the ward and said I wish you well mr. d dad back in South Africa so I can relate to you many of these and it can take a whole day but we don't have the time my dear brothers so please make dua for us make dua but may Allah bless us and keep us all blessed who my father was truly a blessed man from Allah SWA no Ghana when we came to South Africa again things began to change he began to do Dawa thousands and thousands of people non-muslims came to the house here many Nigerians came to this house to honor my father to thank my father and one thing we must realize my brothers they are coming to see a man who you won't get nothing from generally we don't visit people when we get nothing from them but the Nigerians came all the way thousands of miles knowing full well they will not go back without a dollar or anything nothing at all but still they came because they love when you love somebody distance there is no distance in love I thank you so much the Nigerian people for writing all those letters and showing condolences to my parents passing away may Allah bless all you Nigerians my father Ahmed didn't truly love God really from the heart is the order saying which my father always used to say their job at liquor tea hey rocky what comes from the heart can only affect the heart and you Nigerians all of you I am an idiot love you does a comma here and a breast
