enjoy my content today i am going to be filming a another video which is relating to tips and advice for first-time renters so i have already filmed a tips and advice for first-time renters video that is on my channel so if you are a first-time renter or if you're about to be a first-time renter then go check that video out i will link it in the description box down below i did mention in that video that i wanted to talk about my exact household bills but that it will probably take me too long to go through everything that i pay in with that video so i wanted to dedicate a whole video to letting you know exactly what i pay for my household bills so it costs in addition to rent or your mortgage i actually took this idea from hazel maria wood who is one of my favorite youtubers and i thought it was such a good idea because when we moved into the slot i really struggled to find out exactly how much a couple would pay for their household bills in a one bedroom flat so hopefully you'll find this video useful if you're budgeting how much money you'll need to spend on bills and find out how much money you'll have left to spend on rent so a bit of background about me as i mentioned in my last tips and advice for first-time renters video myself and my partner george moved into our one bedroom flat on the south coast in worthing just under a year ago so yeah we're paying bills so i hope this video is useful i'm going to talk you through the bills that we pay we pay rent so we pay 725 pounds per month in rent and that is for a one bedroom flat really nice one bedroom flat if i do say so myself on the south coast in worthing obviously a lot of these costs will vary for different regions within the uk council tax rates electric rates water rates are different from area to area but hopefully this will give you a rough idea of how much you might be paying so we pay 725 pounds per month in rent and then our heating is all electric so we don't have any gas to our building so if you have gas to your building so if there's a boiler and you have gas central heating and a gas hob and ordinarily you would pay a gas bill as well as an electric bill but we just pay electric so we pay 60 pounds per month in electric and that includes our heating so that's everything obviously this would be less if we were paying a gas bill as well because our heating would be gas that is quite a lot i mean our direct debit was about 40 pounds a month and then i submitted a couple of meter readings and they were like you're actually using more than we estimated you would so your direct debits are going to go up i was like thanks we're with octopus energy they are so good i would recommend them because they have an app and you can really easily submit me to readings and they just yeah keep you up to date with everything and everything is in plain and simple english it's basically like an electric company for dummies which i think is useful if you're a first-time renter and if you're young like me you don't want any fafs you don't want anything too confusing you just want something in plain and simple english would recommend octopus and then we pay 40 pounds per month for water we're with southern water because we are down south broadband so this is internet so we pay 27 pounds or 99 for our internet which actually reminds me i need to call up bt because our internet has been rubbish lately and i think this is one of the most expensive rates because we really wanted a good internet speed you can get like internet and tv packages so you can get internet and tv with vt virgin sky but we didn't want the tv parks we could just get everything on the smart tv or on the xbox so we just pay for internet i don't really know why but when we first moved in we paid 25 pounds 79 for tv license for six months and then 12 pounds a month after that so yeah we pay 12 pounds a month for tv license that is basically if you want to watch telly i don't think you need it like netflix and stuff but if you watch like anything on bbc iplayer like your normal tv like through your channels and apparently they do check so definitely get one we pay 104 pounds in council tax that's per month going back to the gas and electricity i did explain this in more detail in my tips and advice for first-time renters in the uk video but there's two ways of paying for gas and electric you can either pay by direct debit so yeah they'll basically calculate how much you've used and then charge you at the end of the month or you'll get charged a set amount each month and then you need to submit a meter reading like every six months three to six months i think it is and they'll calculate if you've been paying too much and then they'll reduce your monthly bill or if you haven't been paying enough like in our case with the electric then they'll increase your bill or you can do pay as you go with a key card or like a little key that you put in your meter it's basically like topping up your mobile phone so you'll go down the shop and say can i have 20 pounds on this gas car please or i think you can do it on an app as well or online come home plug it in and then that gives you gas and electric so talk to different providers about what options they can offer you and what's the cheapest one for you use which is really good and i think money supermarket is good as well i think we just use you switch we might have used money supermarket as well or is it go compare we definitely use you switch anyway other things to count in our food shopping we pay roughly about 45 to 50 pounds a week for our food shopping for the both of us we go food shopping once a fortnight and our food shop comes to around 90 to 100 pounds sometimes a little bit more sometimes a little bit less but on our fridge it's about 90 to 100 a fortnight which works out at around 45 to 50ish pounds per week other things that you're going to want to budget into your calculations are car insurance car tax car finance if you have a car your phone bill things like netflix or spotify as i mentioned in my previous tips and advice for first time renters in the uk is that i have all my bills listed here so that helps me stay organized i've got everything listed in my notes i know exactly how much i pay for what to what company so i've got here 725 rent what day it comes out 40 pounds southern water 20th of each month it's a really good way to keep on track of what you pay for each utility so my honeys we've reached the end of this video i really hope you found it useful and informative as i said i will link the previous video that i filmed about my tips for first time renters in the description box down below so you can have a look at that one and let me know if there's anything else you want to know there's anything else i can advise you on if there's any other videos along these lines that i can film to do with moving out or first-time renters because i feel like videos like this are really useful for me when moving out because we're all just a bit clueless at that stage aren't we i really hope you found this video useful and you enjoyed it if you did make sure you smash the thumbs up button i would appreciate it so much and subscribe to my channel for more videos like this i'm so close to a thousand subscribers i would love you to be with me before i reach a thousand subscribers you'll be one of the ogs so yeah guys thank you so much for watching and i hope to see you again soon for my next video bye
