My Closed Beta PvE/PvP Tank Build - New World

what's up guys it's your boy damon and welcome back to another new world video today we're going to be talking about my build um today's video is going to be kind of a no brass tax uh things that i found uh worked from for me uh the build that i use we're gonna talk about main weapon we're gonna talk about off weapon we'll talk about why i use the things that i use and decisions or actions that have happened that made me kind of decide to run this direction i want to kind of break this down in a way that's easy to understand so if you're thinking about tanking this could really really help you out especially since i've had the unique opportunity of tanking all of the dungeons in the game except for the spring boss uh which we haven't fought yet but we did lazarus instrumentality we've done garden of genesis we've done pretty much everything uh in the game so far uh just to kind of see what everything was like and i found a build personally that works for both pvp and for pve and then we'll get into all of that stat builds all that jazz all right so without further ado guys let's go ahead and dive in the first thing we're going to be looking at is my attributes because this is i think one of the most important things you could pay attention to in a perfect world where all the drops was perfect and i got all the stats that i ever wanted on call i would go with the 300 constitution bill then probably around 200 strength all right just because like as a tank if you're sword and board i think the most important thing is that you stay alive because your job is to keep the attention on you not on your healers not on your mages you know so on and so forth and you're supposed to prevent damage to your team so you cannot do that if you're dead so there are two things that i wanted to test unfortunately due to the limit of time in the beta i will not be able to test them but i wanted to test a 300 strength build with 200 constitution versus a 300 constitution build with 200 strength but like i said due to lack of time and not being able to get the drops you know whenever you want them that's just going to have to wait so what i tried to do here was go for 300 constitution with as much strength as i can and i've been finding a lot of success with this uh just because this allows me to kind of maneuver stay in and out and kind of develop a fingertip feel for what i need to do in terms of my weapon mastery and my skills i went sword and shield naturally i was tinkering with some swordmaster defender mix uh initially because i wanted to see how far i can go with strength and cons before i just wasn't dealing enough damage so i want to just mention some things of note here this precision with sword crit rate increase mobility is really effing good especially for movement and then counter attack and then of course freeing justice which removes all debuffs from you on a heavy attack is also really solid for you hybrid combat tank builds now the reason i'm only mentioning these four is because it will require you to lose some of these passives which would take away from a little bit of your defensive capability but it would give you some offense and you're not going to be able to go that deep into the tree if you're wondering why i'm not focusing on skills instead it's because these three skills as a tank are just money now if you are going offensive and you're not tanking for dungeons and you could probably lose this here but what this um defiant stance also offers you is a heal which is kind of hard to pass up so although you could maybe get rid of this or maybe get rid of this and go for one of these it's it's really hard to do so especially if you're trying to do a hybrid build like you know not trying to change your spec every time you go into like a pve or pvp situation and this is why i decided to go for a full defender my favorite abilities or passives here are probably going to be defensive formation uh which basically has your shield it puts up a little circle right here i'll show you guys this and what it does is people in this this radius take less damage which is amazing by the way um and it's it's really hard to to compete with that and the other two abilities as soon as i can find my sword and shield here are of course uh shield rush which of course is awesome uh because it applies a weakened which is going to reduce the attack power the targets that you hit them with this which is going to allow you to stay alive longer allow your team to stay alive longer and make your healer's job easier right so i decided to go with that an intimidating rush i chose specifically for pvp because people like to run away they like to start and then when when it's time to fight they'd be running right so intimidating rush slows them down allows my team to catch up or at least a little bit of time for my team to catch up so we can close gaps and win fights and shield bash of course is just to stun enemies you get a elongated stun and then you also uh get increased threat which is going to be paramount to your success if you're going to be taking in dungeons these two abilities right here are probably the most important especially if you intend on using a carnelian gem which you definitely should if you have any intention of taking a dungeon period right carnelian gem or you are not a tank and i i know some of you guys like but yeah you can use it on the axe or the hammer too though but listen sword and board is where it's at all right true tanks stand up all right so uh that's pretty much it for my build so the big thing here guys is i want to kind of break some of this stuff down to you as well now in terms of utility like applying all of these abilities i made the mistake of thinking that attacking was the most important thing right to generating threat and or you know being annoying to the enemy basically but over time the more that i've tanked dungeons the more that i participated in the large-scale pvp or group pvp i found that blocking is going to be your best friend and you there's a lot of key things that you're going to want to pay attention to when you get into altercations the way the reason i say that is because it's kind of a dance between blocking and attacking if you're in a pve situation blocking also generates threat if you've if you have the passive where you're attacking and every third light attack generates threat you're gonna you're going to want to pay attention to the rhythm of the enemies that you're fighting and what their attack patterns are so you know exactly when you need to be blocking to generate threat and you know exactly when you need to be attacking to generate threat alongside using your shield bash and of course your full taunt which is going to increase the amount of damage that you can take to maximize the amount of threat output that you have not to mention that when you're doing that you're going to also want to look at your carnelian gem and make sure that you have the highest quality carnelian gem possible so it'll increase your threat generation and make sure you please only put a carnelian on your weapon because if you put it on your armor it's gonna reduce the amount of threat that you deal and you're just gonna have a bad day okay so that's something that you're gonna to look at but understanding that there's a rhythm and that blocking also generates threat is going to be really important for you to be effective as a tank not to mention that when you are blocking the big thing here is that it's going to reduce the amount of damage that your teammates are going to take so when you're positioning around in a duel and you're moving around you need to do a key shield slam for extended stun or you need to push up to get uh to close a little bit of a distance and kind of stagger your enemies so your your team can attack them these are key things that you're going to want to pay attention to if you want to be an effective tank uh playing new world now in terms of key gear and overall builds i'm personally going constitution and strength more constitution than strength and that's guaranteed the way that i'm gonna go this is the same way that i'm gonna build on launch unfortunately i can't influence luck the way that i like or i'd have perfect gear but until you get that perfect gear drop or things happen the way that you want like unfortunately i got a 21 con helmet here with the goddamn bow passive on here but until i'm able to replace the helmet i'm just using it for the stats right uh so that's going to be a big thing as a tank too is just to kind of take what you can get one thing i need you guys to understand about your gear score though when you look at your equipment is that your drops after 60 are going to depend on your current gear score so so sometimes it might help you a little bit right like let me show you an example here like um this necklace that i have keepers pendant i got this from the dynasty shipyard uh with empreso we just did the 55 dungeon um yesterday i got this yesterday it has intelligence and focus on it which i don't need at all because i'm not using any of those for any types of stats but it increased my gear score overall because my old necklace was only a 236 gear score and then not to mention it increases my maximum health by eight percent so there's pendants and jewelries and crazy perks in this game that we have still yet to to see and as these are uncovered and discovered right then you can kind of manipulate and maximize your build based on those parameters so that eight percent health could make up for some constitution that i don't have so i could justify using this until i find a better necklace and then at that point i need to break down all right well how much constitution actually is eight percent of my health and which one is better but that's a conversation for a whole another day but i think if you want to be an effective tank especially sword and board if you're not focusing on damage you need to stay alive as effective as possible you need to stay alive as long as possible and having as much constitution is going to help you do that so like i said you take the constitution where you can get it i'm trying to replace these boots as well they had strengths and they were heavy so that was my criteria but as you go through this you'll figure out what what works best for you and what you can get in terms of your off weapon i know a lot of people like yo should i use spear should i use hammer i heard axes op they're all good right and the situation is going to dictate i've set myself up in in a way with my build that allows me to really just focus on the sword and shield and typically if i'm switching to anything spear hammer axe i'm just utilizing the cc uh you can also rock a life staff build if you're going to be supplementing some focus in there but if not if you're not supplementing focus it could get a little tough but the beautiful thing about being tanky and having a lot of constitution is it gives you a lot of freedom as to what you're going to work around now some key things you want to be you know you want to pay attention to like just like in pvp and or pve is really paying attention to your block bar when you take damage because as you take damage what's going to happen is your stamina bar is going to deplete so with that i recommend using tower shields because tower shields can take a lot more punishment than like a standard kite shield or buckler and this will allow you to stay in guard a lot more consistently but you need to learn to also time when your guard is going to break so you can move around gain some mobility apply buffs you know food buffs heal whatever um so you can uh manipulate your enemy into making mistakes because the more mistakes your enemy makes allows you to set up more position for like shield stuns and stuff like that especially in 1v1s 1v2s 1v3s 2v5s and or mass war and or dungeons so that way you know what's going on and learning to kind of set up your cooldowns or play around your cooldowns in a way that you can attract as much attention as possible will allow you to keep your team alive a lot longer so as we bring this video to a close again as i you know just wanted to kind of summarize my thought process and everything that i'm thinking about a key setting that i think will really help you guys out is going to be this setting right here which is going to be show extra ability cooldowns so this adds another hud display element near the center of the screen showing your cooldowns so if you guys are wondering why my cooldowns show up when i use them um it gives me a cool down to let me know what keys are on cooldown so that way i can play around the timing right so i know here that i have 40 seconds right and since i'm using the passive that's reducing my cooldown when i take a block then i'm able to pay attention that and see that without having to look all the way down at the bottom right side of my screen which can allow me to stay focused on the fight right so when we're zoomed out and we're and we're rating or whatever i got all of my cooldowns on my screen so i know exactly what's going on and when i need to position and again like i'm still working on this i'm not perfect at this i'm practicing every day so i can be better and better and better and better for my guild uh and the team that i'm playing with but these are some things that you guys really need to take into consideration as you guys are playing also um a bit of a tip as well is if you guys have access to a high proficiency chef in your guild they can also make constitution food that could really help you out in those long situations where you're trying to stay alive and that extra constitution can really help you out in terms of overall staying alive power but anyway guys i just wanted to take a little bit of time talk about my thought process talk about my build talk about uh what i look at when being a tank in new world and uh just kind of the things
