My Brutal Quest for the Rarest GameCube Game

this is pokemon box it's the rarest and most expensive gamecube game and it's really not even a game it's more like an accessory to ruby and sapphire and on my quest over the last few months to build up my gamecube collection this game has always evaded me because it's so expensive and so today i'm packing my bags with a bunch of stuff from my current collection in hopes that when i sell them i might have enough money to buy my gamecube grail if i can even find it at the socal retro gaming expo all right folks so we are here now you can't tell but this is california we are in none other than editor riff's shed hello and the reason this is important for this episode is guess what all that stuff that i had just packed up it's here we're about to auction it all off on whatnot yeah baby we're doing a little co-auction action and whatever i'm able to get for all this stuff in total is going to be my gamecube budget for the entire socalgaming expo convention which we're going to in a couple days together i'm crossing my fingers that we can get a decent amount for all of these like consoles and games and stuff here i've also still got this sealed uh pokemon booster box so between that and all this stuff i'm wondering maybe can i get enough for potentially a pokemon box if we're there i have no idea i'll let you guys know the total as soon as we're done but we've got a pretty sweet auction lined up this is all rift stuff this is ricky's stuff and we're just gonna be up in here having a good time so we'll catch up with you guys soon folks this is the behind the scenes retro is with our whatnot auction and the total after fees that i have to spend at the expo is 1339 let's go folks let's go at 1300 plus i didn't sell the pokemon card box so when you add whatever i get to that to this total there's a good chance that if i can find pokemon box i can probably buy it which is mind blowing i can't believe it's happened this way but we have to find it first folks we have made it socal retro gaming expo my stuff is sold my money is in my pocket look at this guy look at him who are you he's here now i need to find someone who has pokemon box because i've got 1300 to spend i'm praying that i can find somebody who's willing to let it go for that got some heavy sealed titles over there you don't have a pokemon box do you let me ask you really i'm looking for leads yeah no i'll wait for him excuse me do you happen to have pokemon box or no have have you seen one okay i'm looking hard for one today yeah i know all right oh i see more gamecube you don't have a over here might have it okay so the guy at that last booth just told me that a guy named tony might have pokemon box i have to get over there as quick as i can to see if he still has it i'm praying it hasn't sold and then even if he does we'll have to see how negotiable he is tony man are you the one i need to talk to go see you i'm just trying to i was just trying to bring you over here no that's all right there it is oh my gosh people i'm literally i'm shaking right now this is the one this is the one we've been looking for he's got 1600 on it though so i'm like i'm a little bit short we'll have to see if we can work something out dude by the way that is a sick shirt is everyone saying that you can't not look at the shirt dude i love it wow it's complete and everything it's got the card wow all right folks so after talking to tony he seemed like kind of open to negotiation but when i said 1330 he seemed like um maybe a little bit more 1339 okay so what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna see if i can find seventy dollars of expected profit and stuff to flip so that i can add that in cash to the offer and make it only 200 off of the 1600 and see if he does it and folks this is where i realized that what i just said probably didn't make any sense because i'm in the middle of a series right now called the gamecube gambit where i try to build a gamecube collection but not spend anything out of pocket and the way that i do that is either by selling stuff that's in the current collection which i've already done or finding stuff to flip and using the expected profit as my budget so the reason i'm going out and trying to find games to flip in order to buy pokemon box is that that's the only way that i can increase my budget since i didn't have any other stuff from the current collection to sell at the time here's the thing though it's early in the convention so it's going to be tough to negotiate on prices we might have to operate on somewhat slimmer margins than we normally do okay so folks i'm actually interested a little bit in this bin as i almost fall over three for 10 bucks is like i don't know maybe there's some opportunity in here [Music] so yeah folks this is one that i don't know if it'll sell for this the lowest very good prime copy on amazon is 29 i think i could get at least 10 after fees for this and it's complete so i'm gonna see what he could do on like just this they're three for ten i don't think i want any other ones so five on this what about you had some qds's over here the xl's then i'll let you check them out if you want 200 220 220. okay all right so we got this one for five so that's five dollars profit i may actually see this guy's got a wagon i may see if he's looking to sell some of that stuff hey is this your trade but hey that's ten dollars closer potentially to pokemon box and since it's a viewer you know you gotta show some support and love can i take a look at these uh ds lights yeah do these all have chargers and stuff yeah okay oh this one doesn't have the stylus gotcha okay i actually i might be interested in these and maybe the aquas okay would you do any kind of discount if i bought four yeah okay cool i appreciate that what about the xl the new xl um that one i'm asking 200 200 okay i'll probably pass on so for these four i'll do like 260. okay that works for me man folks i had to come find an unoccupied corner here because this purchase is huge after discount he gave me all these for 260 and i know on amazon i can get conservatively 440 for all these which gives us a massive hundred and eighty dollars profit to use in addition to the 1300 we had before plus the total of 15 on the controllers and game we bought earlier puts us at 195 in extra cash on top of the 1330. so i'm going to see i'm going to go back to him and see if he'll maybe take 1400 and if we have to we can still go up another hundred all right folks so i'm back here with tony the only vendor here who has a copy of pokemon box and uh so i just went out and i told you i previously had a budget of like 13 30. i went out found more stuff to flip could you get me to 1400 on this bad boy like they say let me see what you have see what i have to trade would you rather that than cash or you wanted me to throw stuff on top cash is always king but you know what product talks too right i've never had this happen before i made what i thought was a pretty strong cash offer and tony was like product talks too so i actually filmed a different video today i don't know if that one's come out yet where i traded a pokemon a box of pokemon cards for some like actual physical video games so i'm gonna take that over to him and just see what he says i guess i i'm at a loss this has never happened before expensive items but folks ultimately i'm coming back out onto the vendor floor and we're just going to have to return to my bread and butter i'm going to look for handhelds if i can just to get that extra because you guys know we already have 15 20 but i need that extra 80 bucks in the budget and i need to do this buy the book if i'm gonna do it so let's go find some underpriced handhelds i am desperately trying to buy pokemon box okay i'm 80 short so i need to i'm trying to find something or a few things that i can flip for 80 expected profit so i can go buy this game is there anything here that you're just looking to get rid of that you might have a little wiggle room yeah for sure i got you man i got you back are you sure i don't want you to feel obligated man no no i forget it amazon i can get 245 which means that if you could if you could get me to 160 on it that would be the entire 80 bucks that i need an expected profit is that close enough for you that's good for me man process i feel so ambivalent about the whole experience i i think i'm gonna catch up with you guys after my flight back to kentucky and we'll debrief well folks it happened i got the ultimate gamecube grail game it's in amazing shape as good of shape as i possibly could have hoped and yet i feel kind of conflicted see as a reseller and a self-proclaimed cheapo i never feel amazing about paying over retail value for anything and something about the way the transaction went down it just it felt like it would have been a lot easier and shorter for him to just tell me he wasn't willing to give a discount in the first place but at the same time when i think about it what i keep coming back to is that the entire purpose of this challenge of this series is about the memories that i'm making in buying these games the journey of building the collection and i have to admit this is not one that i will ever forget but folks the journey doesn't actually end there no because the same day in the middle of all of this going on feeling conflicted and not really sure if i was thrilled with how i got this game editor riff called me over and this happened you have been gracious to me many times you're a good dude you take care of me on the show i found a little gift and i was like i think this would be great for caleb oh man no there you go bro are you serious i've heard you mention it like 20 times this weekend so i'm speechless this is one of the biggest titles that i still need in my gamecube gambit collection i'm sorry i cannot think of a better way for it to come than through editor i know it's it's breaking some of the rules okay well but forget the rules folks you guys know the gamecube gambit it's not about the rules it's about 100 the journey the memories that you make along the way how you get the games that's the fun part right i found it i was like dude this is amazing this is a clean copy too since we are giving stuff can i have that shirt please hey dude i love darth vader give me this give me that that's right folks i set out to california to find what i hoped would be the crown jewel of my entire gamecube collection and as fate would have it i found it let's get
