good morning everyone so i might be looking a little tired today and the reason why that is is because i spent five hours last night planning out my 2021 goals and you might be thinking asia that seems a little obsessive but also remember that getting what you want in life and success doesn't happen by accident for the most part so you have to really do plan and i have found over the years that actually me writing out my plans figuring things out setting many goals to achieve larger goals has helped me both in my financial life and my professional life so this is actually going to be split up into two videos this one all about finance what i want to achieve in 2021 how i plan to achieve it breaking down my sinking funds because i did set it up a little bit differently um and i also kind of thought of a larger chart in general that i want to put together and then the other video is going to be my 2021 overall goals what uh what i want to accomplish professionally and personally this video the financial video is sponsored by empower which is fitting because i am about to throw a lot of money into my a power um syncing fund checking account okay so it all works out anyways let's get into this video because we have a lot to talk about i'm missing something now that i'm looking at this i totally just thought of another sinking fund that i missed out on let's start off since we did just talk about my sinking funds let's start off with sinking funds because that's kind of the most succinct and easiest thing on this list fortunately for 2021 um i feel like my financial goals are pretty straightforward is probably the easiest financially i mean not easiest in terms of making money or anything or the amount of money i'm trying to save but easiest in terms of just goals because now i'm debt free i saved up my emergency fund so now it's just everything at this point is just being responsible and playing around with money and setting my life up for success so that's cool who knew that i would be at this point in my life like how cool is that before we start let me tell you the planner that i have been writing in this is the master plan planner this is my planner y'all i'm sorry that this is taking so long i wish that we were able to get it in your hands before the new year but if you're able to stick it out i know that this is a really great planner because frankly i built it to accomplish all of my needs selfish i know but i know that it'll also help a lot of you especially in this community because we are very uh financially minded anywho um let's get started i have four short term goals for the year 2021 one accomplish my sinking funds we all know this i'll go further into what that looks like down payment for a house for the love of god if i have to rent after this lease is up i am going to jump off my balcony which is on the first floor so it's not dangerous at all car we're still talking about a car and then a road trip i have been really itching to do kind of more road trips around california um to explore a little bit so depending on you know how miss corona is feeling next year and how people are handling you know the um vaccine and stuff you know this is a tentative thing but we're still going to put it in our short-term goals because we still want to plan for it anyways so let's talk about sinking funds because sinking funds are always fun my sinking fund goals for this year are going to focus primarily on bills okay um you all know how i love a good syncing fund sinking funds are just ways for you to save up money for things that you know you have to pay for in the future and i've also decided to include in my sinking funds monthly bills that are taken out because i have decided that i really just don't like watching things being deducted out of my checking account i hate it especially when it's monthly because even though i know it happens i sometimes forget and it's just like oh that's 30 that i totally forgot was gonna get out of my checking account and now i hate it so everything is going to go into my empower checking account so something i did this year that's really cool that i haven't done is i've organized my sinking funds from the from when they are due earliest that they are due by month so january february march october november december those are when my sinking funds are due and i organized it this way because i like to save my sinking funds in the order that they will be taken out so obviously january is happening soon so health insurance is the first thing i need to save for and it's actually something that i already put money into um in december which is why there are no um flow charts for health insurance so that's done it's just easier to track easier to make sure that you have the money in your account by the time you need it and um it just it's just easier for me so again january is where my kaiser health insurance is due again i like to pay for everything i can in full once because like i keep on saying i hate it when people i hate monthly deductibles i hate it so if i can save up to pay for things in full that's what i'm going to do health insurance check i did that in december february is the other next big expense and that's for my car insurance each block is divided into four hundred dollars and any every time i add four hundred dollars into my empowered checking account i'll highlight it and that means it's done uh so that's a little under three thousand dollars and then in march we have a little break for car registration i have my little mini fiat so it's two hundred dollars and then we're going into october uh we have a couple small things and then one big thing which i forgot to add which is why it's at the bottom but i get a lot of messages about people asking my thoughts on pet insurance and i say as a pet owner it is so important we have nationwide pet insurance we really and we love them actually they have given us back money for everything that we've claimed and they are just very easy the money is sent directly to my bank account and like i said i really love them unfortunately pet insurance is expensive for two dogs it's a little less than two thousand dollars um i'm saving up two thousand dollars just because you know i like a nice even number and on my flow charts um but it is due in october so that gives me 10 months to save up for that and i think that for me is very reasonable and then we have christmas y'all i'm saving for christmas for the very first time i decided after i did my like ways to save money for christmas this year uh that i was it was probably time for me to start saving money for a christmas thinking fund um so four thousand dollars is a lot but again it's not just for like christmas presents it's for the holidays in general it's for any thanksgiving dinners it's for gifts not only for my family but for my friends it's for holiday decor it's for travel if we're permitted to travel it's for hotel stays it's for all of that so four thousand dollars is very much all encompassing um and again i have 12 months to save for that so i think i'm able to do it um and then below that i've also have my monthly expenses all of my sinking funds including my monthly expenses are going to going into my empower checking account i'm going to i've decided i'm going to do it that way just because it's just easier to put my bills all in one place everything all of my bills all of my bills are going to be in my empower checking and for me i've decided that that's just going to keep me organized that's going to keep my bank accounts organized and that's also that organization is going to set me up for success the cool thing about the empower checking account is that you can actually earn interest in the money sitting in your account as a checking account so i think right now it's 0.25 on all the money on your checking checking account and in comparison i just checked and my ali and my ally accounts the checking accounts only get um 0.1 so that is a huge difference and although it's just a small amount of money um don't you want to make money while it's just sitting in your account since my bills are taking out at different times of the year my checking account all the money in my checking account will continue to accrue interest as it sits so even though i'm going to put in a certain amount of money how much are my sinking funds all together 9 800 into my sinking funds over the course of 2021. by the end of 2021 that's actually going to be more because of the interest that it'll accrue as it sits in my account which i think is really cool because that'll set me up for a more successful 2022. and then also something that i like is that there's no account minimums no overdraft fees in november of this year i had about 200 in my account for some account owners depending on your bank that might not be enough money uh and you will be acute and you will be charged a fee for that which i don't think is very fair i think that's bs and that's just banks being banks trying to make money off of you wherever they can um this account is not like that and i really appreciate that whether you're a seasoned pro in saving and seeking funds or whether you're just starting out and unsure if you're able to do this you definitely want to go with a bank that's not going to charge you or penalize you for not having enough money so that actually makes me really mad not that i'm saying that out loud that banks do that fun fact empower now offers cash advance again without any of the predatory practices of other banks so if you are ever in a bind if you need cash i know especially now um you might be strapped for cash you can qualify for advances up to 250 again um no interest no late fees no credit checks nothing they make it really easy for you to get the money when you need it anyways i gave myself a timeline to finish my sinking funds um by asap but realistically i think i can do it within the first three months so then i can spend the rest of my year focusing on my biggest goal which is saving up for a down payment on a home also remember let's see how my um emergency fund is doing so remember my emergency fund is also with empower but it is in empower autosave i saved up my emergency fund fully in very much i think in either march or april of 2020 um so i have been sitting pretty an emergency fund has really helped me feel very secure especially this year i saved up five months of expenses plus uh many savings funds for the dogs so right now i have thirty five thousand dollars in my account i don't technically need to continue to build my emergency funds um but i think a little bit morning a little bit more money might help maybe just a couple thousand dollars more and i will be doing that by restarting my empower autosave so i can continue to build funds without actually having to do it and remembering to do it um so i think what i'm going to do is i'm going to start off with a small five dollars a week just to get the ball rolling while i'm saving up for my sinking funds because that is more of a priority right now but once that's done i'll increase my auto save to um 25 dollars a week and i'm increasing it i guess in preparation for owning a home because i feel like i will no longer have management to fix my toilet when i need it so i just want to add a little bit more padding this year instead of next year when i might need it so that's just something i'm going to do passively through the autosave on my empower app so let's talk about the car for a second since i don't know i mean i like my car but after the whole fiasco of it needing to be it needing to get fixed i feel like my car is actually on on the way to dying so i want to save up 25 000 i think i can get a year's worth of fiat left in it so that won't be due till january 2022 um so i have a good amount of time to save up for it and it is a lot of money but on the list of priorities from sinking funds down payments cars road trips saving up for my car isn't on the most crucial and important list of things for me to do um so i'm just gonna let that go as it goes and since it's kind of a more flexible timeline if i have to take more time to save it for a new car then i can do that if my car works before then we still have brian's car so i'm not too worried about it it is it's on my list of things to do but it's not a priority priority a priority is however saving up for a down payment we are no longer renting after this lease is up february 2022 is when this list leases up and hopefully by then we will have a house i want a yard for the dogs i want an office i want a desk y'all i want to sit on a desk i've been doing work on the ground because we have no place else to do it and it's fine but i wanted to ask my back hurts i'm 34 years old okay this isn't good for my posture and i also want brian to have his own space maybe in the garage or maybe we'll build a nice little hut for him in the backyard where he can choreograph play his music real loud and plays games real loud and he can scream at the tv and it will not bother me that is what i want so we're gonna save a hundred thousand dollars this year for that i decided instead of my normal flow charts because you all know i love a good flow chart i decided to track my savings for down payment using this chart i thought it would just be better for me visually to see how much money i put aside for that every month instead of just a flow chart where i mark it off casually i just want to be able to see more visually clearly how on track i am to reaching that goal so that's why there's no flow chart involved it's more so just writing down how much i was able to accomplish each month um and i think for me that'll probably be a little bit more motivating and then underneath my uh down payment goals i wrote this this this is what i forgot earlier to put in roth and sep ira my goal is to max out my roth um roth is used as a loose term it's probably going to be a backdoor roth and then i'm also hoping to after maxing out my roth add any other money i can into my sep um how much i saved this year i'm actually going to talk about in my 2019 versus 2020 video so again that'll be the very last video of the year so watch out for that to see how much i've done so far this page is the debt overview page that comes in the planner and we don't need this anymore so i've decided to turn this into a vision board for my dream home that is what i'm going to do i haven't done it yet um next time we see my mom she has all these home decor magazines so i'm just going to go through them and cut and paste things that i love into here i think that would be a good way to kind of emphasize the main goal for 2021. oh here's the other thing so here's the other uh graph that i wanted to show you this is i have never done this before so we're gonna see how it works in 2021 but this is going to be a graph where i put all of my income for the year and then put all my expenses for the year and then in the corner are going to be my percentages so that way i can see if there are any patterns that occur i can make sure that i'm within my percentage threshold for every expense and i'm really interested to see how this graph turns out um it might even be something worthwhile for maybe a lot of you to do as well so um this was a really interesting graph and then i pasted um this graph into my planner from my old passion planner it's just my monthly income from 2019 2022 and then 2021 and moving forward that way i can just kind of like compare to see how my months are going in comparison to the year before and all that stuff but i think this is also especially as a freelancer i think this is a very important graph to have in your planner just to keep track of how things have went but that is all of my 2021 financial goals again includes everything practical from just saving up for any type of bill expense that i could ever have to pay for um and then also bigger goals like maxing out retirement funds and saving up for a down payment so that is that um let me know in the comment section what some of your financial goals goals are for the next year and um yeah i will see you in the next video thanks for watching thanks for sticking with me can you believe how financially savvy we've become since 2017 can you believe it it's crazy anyways see you later bye you
