today on project free 80 I'm sure you can guess so today I'm taking the engine out you'll see why in the upcoming videos this is by far the easiest engine removal I've ever done don't be scared of it you don't need special tools for the only thing you do need is an engine crane but they are available for hire if you don't want to buy one but first we need to put some old clothes on there put some good tunes on you're gonna be here for a while step 1 disconnect your battery I moved house and lost mine so that's done step 2 depressurize your fuel rail I didn't have any fuel and already taken the fuel rail off so that's done step 3 drain your oil that's done step four drain your colon that's done and I made a mess step 5 drain your power-steering fluid that's done not too much of a mess step 6 remove the air intake that used to be here but I solved that so that's done step 7 remove your exhaust manifold well mine's gone but now I've got this in the way so that needs to go step 8 remove all the coolant hoses I've removed almost all of mine in previous episodes apart from this one this next step I would pretty much say it's optional but why would you risk damaging it so I'm gonna remove the radiator start off by removing the overflow pipe I cut minam blocked off with a Sharpie that I lost for ages move the props down it's really simple unplug the fan undo the two nuts pop the tabs off and pull it out step 9 disconnect the power steering pump lines just that one on that one you can leave the rest in mine's already Oh step 10 remove the fuel pipes make sure you label them up so you don't get it wrong when you put it all back together step 11 disconnect all the wiring harness but I haven't done all yet I'll snapped a few of these in my times trying to remove the engine because they are quite dirty and easy to miss but you need to remove this earth strap I'll remove my intake to make it easier to show you guys what wires are underneath it you don't need to take the intake off to do this you can just get your hands around once you know where everything is but we've got all night a wire down here it is underneath a little plastic cap [Music] it's one more wire on the alternator the signal white it's a bit of a pain to get out it's probably easier from underneath the car underneath this book is your oil print and then the last two are on the start motor so you've got your signal wire and your power wire step number 12 remove you start and over this is where it starts getting a little bit more tricky there's two ways of doing it one underneath the car and two on top of the car but you can only do on top of the car really if you've removed your inlet it's only held in both three bolts one there one there and one there [Music] place all the bolts back in the star mower you don't want to lose these or get melted up it could be quite hard to get the right bolts in the right place underneath of the car and here's a big sarcastic thumbs up to whoever designed this but it's a 12 mil bolt a 14 mil bolt and a 12 mil bolt with a 14 mil nut which made life pretty difficult step number 13 typical number because if you forget this you're going to be ripping your clutch pipe but there's a nut and bolt goes between the gearbox and the engine which is actually a bracket to hold the clutch line so under we're actually going to be ripping it off ah once you've dropped your nut somewhere and the bulk is out of the way simply just bend it away a little bit and now it's a good opportunity to retrieve the drop nuts from your manifold ah drop them even further step 14 disconnect the gearbox from the engine before you go diving under the car there's two bolts that connect the gearbox to the engine that is more accessible up in the engine bay that's one here and this one underneath the car there's another five bolts one two 300 fine I didn't film that step it was too hard to get me the camera hammer tools in there but just bear in mind where you took the bolts from as they're not all the same length before you take the last bolt out just support the gearbox with a a small trolley Jack bit of wood or an axle stand in a bit wood step 16 grab your engine crane this has got two really important jobs to do one lift the engine out the cup to test the tensile strength of everything you've forgot to undo there is an optional step and that is to remove your bumper it's gonna give you a little bit more room to play with and you don't really want to scratch the bumper we engine Kray step 15 is to disconnect the angel from the subframe this can be done one of two ways the way I prefer not to do it is to undo the free bolts on the mark 2.5 I believe there's four or the way out fir is just to undo one nut either side of the suffering [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] step number 17 was to remove the clutch and flywheel if you are going to reuse them again make sure you undo them in a cross log pan and do it a bit at a time so you don't release all the pressure on one side of the clutch in one go step number 18 is to remove the flex plate just to 10 mils there and there the final step is to put the engine on the engine stand we want to be using this hole this hole this hole and this hole because remember we're going to have to be taking the sump off so we don't want to support it with the sump now this hole here is the one without any thread so make sure you've got a longer bolt that goes all the way through and then up the other end the way I like to do the next bit all we think is the easiest way instead of trying to lower the engine crane down and trying to get this to fit into here I'll just pick this up then lower the crane down see that wasn't that hard join me next time to find out why I've taken it out don't forget to Like and subscribe [Music]
