Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
TLDW rankings for each host:
NA 4th place Paul, 1st tied place Todd
NB 3rd place Paul, 3rd place Todd
NC 1st place Paul, 1st tied place Todd
ND 2nd place Paul, 2nd place Todd
I have to say i am pleasantly surprised to see a Miata comparison where the NC doesn't get dumped on for being too heavy, let alone one where it wins.
Those wheels on the NA look giant. Are they 16s?
I'm totally with Todd on this one.
I teared up watch the beginning. My NA is out of commission at the moment:(
The NA rides like that because it has 25 year old suspension and too big wheels and tires.
They are comparing the lowest form of each generation which the NB suffers most from. That's why they gave it a 1.8 and a 6 speed, and later a turbo.
They call the NC fat and ugly but praise it because they took underpowerd cars to altitude and it suffered the least.
The ND is offered in two trims: Baby Boomer and Best Ever. They sell it with better brakes, wheel, and a LSD. None of that is here. lowest common denominator strikes again.
Tall dog pretty much said he has a bias against Miatas (an autojourno that hasn't driven one?). While grandma hat admits to being a torque slut that is reviewing the most beloved, yet underpowered, cars of all time on top of mountain.
In the Pantheon of Miata reviews you'd think the 37 minute one with every generation ever would be near the top, instead it feels underpowered, sloppy, and has the distink feel of click bait. This reviews is one production change away from being #1, the best!
I agree with what tall guy said in the end, the ND is one suspension change away from being even more amazing, even though they both drove the GT trim without bilstein shocks, the slightly stiffer springs, and LSD, which are all on the Club trim.
...which is why I just ordered Progress front and rear sway bars, end links, wilwood 6-piston front brake calipers, advanti storm 17x8 wheels (wrapped with extremecontact DW), and will be pre-ordering the Progress lowering springs whenever goodwin starts taking preorders again (beginning of march!)
Once I get all of the above installed, then I start playing the waiting game for FI kits.
Awesome review! Once my NA has become a total rust bucket and is parted out I think I'm gonna go for an NC or a Mazdaspeed NB thanks to this review. Everyday Driver gives some great perspective on cars from an everyday driver's perspective. No offense to other car reviewers, but I far prefer to see a car at its realistic limits moreso than its limits on the track because that's where it'll be the majority of the time.
Yep, this exactly!
