MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Deleted Scene + NEW Dr Strange Easter Eggs EXPLAINED

look if it's you or someone you love who's on that operating table and it's life or death i'm the one you want holding the knife welcome to screen crush i'm ryan airy the doctor strange multiverse of madness blu-ray has just been released and it's got a never before seen deleted scene and a banging audio commentary that contains some totally new information about the film and the marvel cinematic universe so i'm gonna break down all the reveals from the audio commentary and a little later in the video i'm going to explain this deleted scene and why i think that it should have stayed and the film overall the blu-ray is pretty great and the audio commentary is worth the price alone one of the biggest reveals from the audio commentary is that the filmmakers of this movie didn't know the entire plot of spider-man no way home because security on that movie was so tight it's likely that they were told that it just deals with the multiverse and that's it that makes sense because that movie was made by sony a totally different company ironic that they could keep no way holmes reveals a secret from sam raimi but not from the internet so they based the defender strange character on errol flynn the actor who is most known for playing swashbucklers like robin hood i was surprised to learn that the way this scene ends with strange deciding to kill america chavez was a late addition to the script it's such a key moment that reinforces steven's character flaw that he has to be the one holding the knife there were other last minute changes that took me by surprise and i'm going to talk about later in the video the commentary also reveals the defender strange is from earth 617 which is actually a huge reveal america next leaps to earth 616 the mainline mcu and remember the christine is the person who's labeling all these different realities our universe is 838 and we've designated yours 616. now presumably these numbers aren't random and she's giving out these names because certain universes have more aligned vibrational frequencies so this means that in the mcu certain universes are closer together than others kind of like the branching timelines that we see at the end of loki this would explain why most of the people in some universes look the same but all the spider-man looked different remember what wong said that spell travels the dark borders between known and unknown reality it's too dangerous so the forgetting spell had to reach way far out in the multiverse to work which is why these other spidermen look so different because their realities are further away from the mcu this also tells us a lot about the future incursions that we might see in the mcu in movies like secret wars in the comics incursions happen when universes that are located near one another collide meaning that the first universe to collide with the mcu will be that of defender strange reality number 617. now this also means that america's powers aren't totally random she's actually going through the universes in a sequential order at least until she learns to control her powers so that means that she and strange likely pass through 221 universes to get to 838 next we have the battle with the eye monster which is not the monster schumacher roth like we said in a million different breakdown videos it turns out that the film rights to schumer gorath are still part of the conan franchise for complicated legal reasons that i'm going to avoid talking about by showing a conan clip crush your enemies see them driven before you and they hear the lamentation of the women so this monster is actually gargantos but here's the cool thing they actually took a digital scan of elizabeth olsen's eyeball and this is the eye of the creature i mean the movie does a lot with eyes showing zooms into eyes that lead us into the minds of characters so this is a very cool early hint that wanda was the true villain of the movie and this is the first sequence where we see sam raimi's classic delta 88. this was his parents car when he was in high school and ever since his first movie evil dead it's appeared in every single one of his films so the show marvel assembled revealed that they actually made sure this car appeared in every universe including as a toy right here it's not even a fake version of the car that's the car it was actually the car that we drove in high school and that same documentary revealed something that i never knew before every one of strange's hand movements is specifically choreographed for the type of spell he's casting like this symbol always means levitation which is kind of funny because toby maguire made a similar gesture in remy spider-man when he was testing his webs and said fly a lot of people were wondering why zombie strange decomposed so quickly and it turns out that the filmmakers took this into consideration he's been infected with an alien virus that caused his flesh to decompose more quickly and get this that scene where strange is talking to wanda was originally supposed to be shot in the spring but then locked down delayed filming till the fall so the production team actually created thousands of these blossoms and tied them to the trees and the cinematographer always lit them from behind to give the scene kind of a more angelic feel which really helped set up the turn that strange wasn't in wanda's idyllic haven he was standing in the middle of her personal hell the filmmakers also talked about a deleted opening scene where mordo from 616 was going to hunt down wanda and she cut off his head apparently after this reveal the head would have been in one of these apple crates on the ground but in the very first version of the script wanda wasn't corrupted until the end of the movie but they decided it was such a cool reveal they wanted to use evil wanda throughout the entire film now i've been pretty critical about this character choice for wanda saying that they should have made it more clear that she was corrupted by the dark hole from the start but actually you can see here at the beginning of the movie her fingers are already blackened an influence of the dark hole that we saw on agatha harkness so they were laying the groundwork for her corruption from her very first scene so would want to attack karmartosh it's this massive scene with these war drums playing and composer danny elfman actually recorded this part of the score early so they could play the drums on set to hype up the actors screenwriter michael waldron said that with this scene he was trying to find new spins on the trope of the hero's base being invaded in the sequel movie you know what he's right that is a trope we saw it in superman 2 x2 age of ultron and even teenage mutant ninja turtles too the secret of the ooze the trope exists for a good reason it gets characters out of their comfort zones and forces them to change and grow the commentary also reveals that wong had a love interest story cut from the movie and his love interest was this woman [Applause] i kind of wish they would have kept this in because his ending would have hit just a little bit harder sometimes i'd do a wonder are my other lives and i remain grateful in this one the carmartage attack scene was apparently way more brutal originally the animatic had wanda decapitating a sorcerer than using his headless body as a puppet to fight his fellow sorcerers oh man that would have been awesome i know right when strange uses these snakes against wanda these are the vipers of valtor from the comics which are usually used by villains and then when he and america are passing through the multiverse these are confirmed to be stark drones in this pipe world which makes me wonder is this a world where ultron won and filled the world with mechanical devices and drones also they confirmed that this is the savage land that's a hidden jungle in antarctica populated with dinosaurs also tiny detail that i just noticed for the first time r.i.p this little fish who follows them into this universe and lands on the windshield of this taxi originally strange was always going to wind up in the same alley in every multiverse a kind of homage to marty mcfly entering the future and back to the future too the future and i loved this reveal on pizza papa's car you can see the actual fork from sam raimi's army of darkness that little ash used to poke him in the butt [Music] 838 mordo drugs strange and robs his powers with the sans and asante now this is a dust that takes away sorcerer's powers used by the character nick west and the comics and he is played by the great michael stolberg in this movie dr strange dr west something i miss the first time i watch this is that strange's cuffs are filled with the sand which is why he didn't regain his powers when one hand was freed this is also another sequel trope the hero losing his powers and the sequel seriously we actually saw that in superman too spider-man 2 wolverine iron man 2 kind of look if you can think of any more let me know down in the comments in this scene one of wanda's boys mentions a baseball team you know who's best 2003 tigers now the 2003 detroit tigers were terrible one of the worst teams in franchise history but in this universe this was one of their best years because sam raimi is a massive fan of the tigers and you know this awesome bit where wanda is flickering in and out of different universes sam raimi added that on the day of filming and there were a lot of fun new reveals about the illuminati reed richards was cast by kevin feige just as an appreciation to fans who've been fan casting him for years and not because he's going to play the character in the mcu also in the audio commentary they confirmed that this is the time platform of doctor doom making this kind of his first appearance in the mcu reed richards is also michael waldron's favorite marvel comics character so writing this scene was a particular thrill for him in the original script wasp was part of the illuminati and wounded just clapped her hands to smash her he would smush her now of course professor x enters with the x-men theme from the animated series but one thing that annoys me is that everyone keeps saying he's in the hover chair from the cartoon series which he's not the hover chair originated in the comics and it carried over to the animated series chomps but he is wearing a striped tie modeled after the one he wore in the animated series so during this illuminati slaughter scene raymie really wanted this to feel like an homage to the climax of brian de palma's carry but this is a disney movie so you can't cover her in blood so they made up for that by covering her in the oil spewed out by the ultron bots right here also those ultron bots are voiced by mcu villain pinch hitter ross marquan who also voiced ultron and what if all those worlds all that suffering and you just watched and he was the red scroll in the last two avengers movies yeah i know that your mom knows that well your mom goes to college she's trying real hard to get that radiology certificate yeah she's a gem anyways in the fight i thought it was kind of silly how after wanda takes out black bolt reed thinks that his little stretchy hand's gonna be enough to fight her and by the way each of these actors was filmed separately and never actually met confirmed by a lie detector test that elizabeth olsen took you don't know him at all i don't think so no i've never met him another cool thing about this fight is that peggy and maria share a look right here it's a look that says we've been through this before let's get her yeah that fight is silly i mean she beat captain marvel by dropping a statue on her well actually i never noticed this till they pointed out on the audio commentary but wanda siphons off maria's powers then drops a statue on her and by the way the statue in the chamber was actually modeled off xena warrior princess which kind of makes this lucy lawless's second mcu appearance because technically toby maguire is part of the mcu multiverse and lucy lawless appeared in sam raimi's spider-man right here guy with eight hands sounds hot when america is trying to escape notice that her punch creates a star pattern on the glass like the portals that she punches through the multiverse this is hinting that she's maybe beginning to learn to control her powers or that because she's scared she's trying to create a portal instinctively this chase scene was filmed by mounting a steadicam on the back of a motorcycle very cool indeed and then in the scene where wanda takes america the temp score was from james horner's score in the movie aliens this scene itself was modeled after when bishop is stabbed steven meets sinister strange but in the original draft of the script this variant of strange was actually a really nice guy they called melvin strange good chance yeah i thought so too and when wanda encounters her boys in another dimension they're watching snow white but get this they had disney animators change the colors of her dress just a bit to show that this is playing in a different universe now i love the ending but originally it was even more messed up with the reveal that this was actually sinister strange who escaped his incursion into universe 616 by pretending to be our stephen now let's talk about that deleted opening scene which i think is perfect it shows an interview with strange and christine before the events of doctor strange you can tell that this version of strange is kind of a happy guy i mean i usually do my best work alone but this has been different great different but great the two of them are being interviewed because they invented a technique to save paralyzed patients which is why steven is asked to operate on this patient i've got a 35 year old air force colonel crushed his lower spine in some kind of experimental armor mid-thoracic burst fracture and it's probably also why he asked christine to come with him to this conference i'm talking tonight at a neurological society there come with me another speaking engagement but it's clear in this scene that being with christine is what makes strange happy but the darker elements of his personality slowly seep out and the movie explores these darker elements later with defender strange trying to kill america and sinister strange being sinister i'll let you use the dark hole if you give me your christine and the movie also reveals why this is the case steven's sister died we were playing on a frozen lake and she fell through the ice so he doesn't trust anyone else to take care of people he has to be the hero the interviewer challenges stephen saying that he's in the medicine game just for the fame with your pricey speaking engagements book deals some might suggest that for you it's not entirely about the patience and gradually as the scene goes on strange drops his friendly facade and gets more direct and he ends the scene by spelling out his greatest character flaw i'm the one you want holding the knife now christine does say this later in the movie you have to be the one holding the knife and i always respected you for it but i couldn't love you for it and we see that strange's journey is about overcoming this desire when he makes america save the day every time you opened a portal you sent us exactly where we needed to go i think that opening the movie with this scene would have really set the themes of the movie into motion immediately and given us some perspective on how far strange has come since doctor strange but also how far he has left to go also the fight after this would have been defender strange taking america's powers showing the consequences of his philosophy i'm the one you want holding the knife so that's our breakdown of the doctor strange blu-ray i think you should check it out i enjoyed it
