hello friends and welcome to tutorials point in this video we are going to learn how to create a database switchboard in Microsoft Access 2016 so what is a switchboard a switchboard basically helps me to view the information of my database as we see on a web page all right it is also similar to what we see under the navigation form but a switchboard and navigation form there is a slight difference the difference is that in navigation form I can only view the view the information but in switchboard I can also perform an activity or a particular action all right so while creating this particular switchboard I make a use of the switchboard manager now with the help of the switchboard manager I can align different buttons and I can perform different activity along with it let's say we can open a report create a form or navigate to a particular webpage alright so what it says that providing switchboard to your application can help the user to locate the necessary task every time I do not have to go to the navigation window or any particular tab I can create a list of events and I can simply click on that event and that particular task or that particular event will occur under the switchboard application but there is a cache to it in this particular switchboard I can only provide you can see eight commands right so in one switchboard I can only provide eight commands if I want to provide multiple commands I have to create additional switch both which will help me to navigate through different controls or different commands altogether we will also give a one command in such a way that that particular button will always guide into the main switchboard let's go ahead and create a simple switchboard in our practical approach and let's try to understand it how it is implemented now let's go ahead and create a switchboard so in order to create a switchboard I need to go to the create tab and under the create tab under the forms group I will select a platform now by default it is giving me the name as form 1 now let's go ahead and add a title to this form so I will add a title right and I will name this a switchboard alright so I will name this as switchboard and just go ahead now after giving this let's go ahead and add some features or some buttons to this so that we can understand what the switchboard do so I will go under the design tab and under the design tab I will select this controls group and under this controls group I have this button now before I get started let me tell you quickly of what precaution we need to take that is under a controls group if you can click on this drop down menu you can see as of now this use control resort is on now what happens if this is off now by default if you can see whenever I create a button a new window is popping up right and it is saying command button visit but if this but let me go ahead and delete this but if this particular use control wizard is not activated now as of now it is not activated now if I go ahead and if I try to add a button out here you cannot see any kind of a pop-up right so make sure that my control visit is activated so how I do that it's quite simple you go ahead and just select this alright so now you can see this particular greyish selection that means it is active now we will go ahead and add a button let's say I'll select this button and I would like to place it here so now I've created a button now the command button wizard has opened up so now I want to say that whenever I select or whenever I press this button it should open up a form all right so it will open up a form so in order to do that I will go to the form operation so in categories I'll move to form a patient and I want it to open or form alright so let's go ahead and do that I simply select next now it is asking me which form you would like to open I say I would like to see the customer form so it will open the customer form or this particular form I simply hit the next button the moment I hit on the next button now it is basically asking me whether you want to open the form and find a specific data or you want to show all the records no I want to show see all the records all right so I'll select this and hit on the next button so now the next thing it is asking me basically you would like to place a picture on this button or you'd like to see a text I say I would like to see text on it alright so I'll simply select X because it will give me a better understanding that it will open a forum and to be more precise it will open up the customer form so I'll name this button as open customer form alright so I get a better understanding for the same now it is not aligned so we'll go ahead and align this later now I simply hit next now fix the next thing it is asking me a meaningful name so basically just command it will not give me a better idea that what does this particular button do but if I go ahead and type this as this command so CMD stands for a command is to open form so I'm giving it the name as CMD open form all right so it's just a meaningful name for a future reference just in case if I want to refer it all right and I simply hit finish now it says open customer form now as of now it's in layout view so I can not do any kind of changes or I cannot see the changes so in order to see the changes I need to go under the form view and under the form view whenever I hit this button it should open the customer form let's go ahead and see whether it is working or not so I'll simply select open form boom we have this customer form which is ready with us and it has opened a new tab so this is how you can open a form guys so this is how you can create different kind of buttons or different kind of you know features we can do this so let's go ahead and add some more features let's go ahead and again I have to do the same thing I will go under the layout view and under the layout view let's say I will create a button to print the form let's say this time we will print a particular form or a particular report so this time I will select this again this command menu opens up I said I put operation I want to print our report as we have said I say hits simply hit next I want to see that December order I want to open up print the December orders or we can also use the bakery menu report it I want to print a bakery menu report so I'll select this I simply hit next now this time if you want I will keep select this particular icon which will give me a better understanding that it will print something so I say print and simply I hit next now what it will do it will rent the bakery menu alright so this is what I am giving in the name as it will print a bakery menu and simply hit on finish now let's arrange it orange but little bit okay we'll go ahead and lay out to be remove layout right so that we can individually move this particular button all right now the moment I click on this print button it should give me the print report for the bakery menu report all right so I have to go where go ahead and go into the form menu under the form menu let's go ahead and select this at the moment I click this it is asking me for the print menu for the bakery report right so as of now it is empty so it does not show me anything right so this is how you can create I again show it how it is done I'll simply select rent it is giving me the print option you cannot see a text but if you hit cancel you can see the content inside it so this will print this particular report all right so this is how we can create a switchboard also one feature I would like to share with you and cancel one feature I'd like to share with you using this I'll close this tab and also now under the report layout view I can also create a button which will quit this application automatically so I'll go ahead and I'll say I want to create a button so it has created a button yes the form now albor the application and then the application I have this quit application I'll make this as quit I want this app like I want the text to happen so that I can get a better understanding closed closed access right so it will get a better understanding that it will close this window I simply hit the next button yes close the application and I simply hit finish now if I click here if I move it to down go ahead I say remove out simply drag it here okay now I have this third button which will close the application I'll go on to the form menu and the moment I click here it will basically close the application we want to see that I'll simply select I will simply select and if I click here it will close the application so let's click close application do you want to see the changes yes I would like to see the changes and I will name this as a switchboard yes and I simply hit OK now if you can see my application has been closed so this is how you can close the application using the switchboard menu all right so this was all about this video guys
