It just occurred to me while replying to another post that there's an internal logic to why Lizzy thinks he's looking at her only to find fault.
That's what her father does to her mother. The only time Mr Bennet ever pays attention to Mrs Bennet is to mock her. I'm not saying it was obviously intentional on Austen's part, but it is interesting.
