[Music] yo what's up guys and welcome back to the channel uh today wanted to do a video um kind of comparing the mpc live with the mpc one i'm not sure if it's gonna be a comparison video but i kind of want to go over both of these machines since some of you guys have been following me for a while know that i started on the mpc 2000 xl had that for many years then decided to upgrade to the npc one and then from the mpc one i got the mpc live now let me get something right out of the way because this is a question that i get asked multiple times as a beginner which one should i get or you know if i'm just getting started which was the easiest one to to pick up they're both identical if you are just getting started it's not going to matter if you get the mpc one or the mpc live mark ii the workflow the computer within side of these machines are the same thing one is not better than the other this does not make you more professional if you have the live 2 versus the mpc one or if you get the mpc one doesn't make you make you a beginner or anything like that they're both identical the only difference between these two and that's what i'm gonna go over these uh this video is just gonna be that the mpc live mark ii does give you a few extra options now i know there's a lot of videos out there you guys can go through and watch that they're comparing these two machines but what i want to do in this video is i want to go over and share with you guys some of the reasons or some of the main differences that i've noticed within my sampling workflow and let's be honest i personally have been stuck with the mpc live mark ii ever since i picked that up i gravitate towards this machine when i make music and that's what i want to share with you guys on why i keep going for the live mark ii versus the mpc one now before i jump into it i just want to remind you guys if you guys enjoy this content uh make sure you guys hit the thumbs up on the video and also subscribe to the channel for more content like this so let's jump right into it now one of the main reasons why i gravitate towards the mpc live mark ii more than the mpc one is simply because this is portable some of you guys know that follow this channel is i live in a two-car garage with my wife and my daughter and for me to have privacy here there's no separation i do not have my own separate studio so for me to go portable and for me to be able to unplug my mpc and take it outside this is one of the main reasons why i pick this machine up most of the time just for its portability and i find myself just making my beats here and if i do need to step out or things just get crazy in here i'm able to unplug it and go outside and yes i can take my headphones but i do not need to have my headphones i can just use the speaker that's on the mpc live mark ii now i have thought about it and if i did have my dedicated studio or my own room uh the mpc one honestly i probably just stick with the mpc one because i never felt like i had anything missing from the mpc one other than its portability now talking about unplugging and going outside i will move over to the speaker on the live 2. the speaker on the live too is awesome uh it's kind of hard to show you guys or or let you guys hear how it sounds but it sounds amazing i actually take it outside and i'm starting to make my beats i get my kick drums my snares my samples i put it together now i come back in the studio i listen to it and i have to make any tweaks i'll go ahead and make it well one thing about talking about mixing it is cool because sometimes i do reference this speaker if i'm mixing within the npc because if i can make my beat sound good within the speaker then i'm pretty sure it's going to sound good in any other speaker so the speaker on this life too is not something that i'm using all the time i literally only use it when i go outside which is not every day but it's really cool to have so in that type of setup the live 2 is obviously a little more convenient just having those extra features now again are those a deal breaker or those that must go to because of the speaker from my personal opinion not really but it is cool to have that speaker [Music] now moving over to the layout of the mpc the mpc one versus the live two uh this is my personal opinion uh some other people might think otherwise but i personally like the mpc one layout a lot better versus the mpc live mark ii i feel like making beats on the mpc one it's so much quicker it's so much faster and it just the workflow is a lot better on the mpc one having all the dedicated buttons versus on the live too you do have to do some menu diving now the menu diving is not gonna break you apart it's not gonna ruin your beats like it's just extra uh shortcuts that you're gonna have to go through but i i miss all these buttons and i wish i had like the uh program editor you got to go to shift menu and then you know you got to do a little bit of menu diving versus here it's just so much faster being able to jump into certain menus another thing is on your bank selection uh the bank selection up here on the mpc live mark ii it's up here right above your pads which i kind of find it a little weird because when i'm performing something i got my hand ready to shift through a different bank while i'm trying to put out my pads and i'm not sure if you guys can see this right here but it kind of gets in the way and i i don't like this right here now you know i can probably do it like this but i don't know it just feels a little weird it's not really clicking with me as much versus on the mpc one when you want to go through and bank around which i do a lot i fill up my samples from bank a b c d i just go ahead and chop it all up when it comes down to my melodic samples and on the mpc one this is so fast boom boom if i gotta switch over i gotta switch over boom that just feels good to me now again maybe some of you guys are not filling up all your banks and don't need to have this with you that's fine you probably won't care about that but i do care about those small details [Music] and now that we're talking about the layout i might as well jump into the pads uh the pads obviously are different uh the mpc live mark ii has much bigger pads versus the mpc one the mpc live mark ii these pads remind me i mean they seem like the same size as my 2000 xl which i love i love those pads they're worn in and they feel really good uh the mpc one when i picked it up of course these are smaller pads but i've never had an issue with the mpc one pads i've never wished they were bigger i've felt comfortable on the npc one i'm not a finger drummer i've never played drums live so i don't know you know if that makes a difference for those of you guys that do do finger drumming but for me i'm okay with these small pads now if i can choose one or the other yes the bigger pads do feel better and i've also noticed that on the mpc live mark ii these pads are thicker versus the mpc one they're not as thick as the mpc live with that being said i personally will give it to the mpc live mark ii i do enjoy the pads a little more but it's not a deal breaker on the mpc one [Music] now when it comes down to uh sampling and chopping up your samples uh real quick i'll actually load up a sample right here on our mpc one and on the mpc live mark ii i'll go into my sample editor like i mentioned in the beginning these are identical and if you guys are actually seeing it right here on the screen you'll notice that it's the same thing when it comes down to the screen and the computer and the just like the the whole functionality in the workflow of these npcs they're going to be identical the way i sample uh and chop up samples here is the same way i do it over here it's just a bit of a different layout the only difference that i will mention is like on the mpc live mark ii you've got your pads over here and then you gotta jump over to this section to do all your editing and you can nerd out right here and then you jump over here for your performance and you perform go back in here get all technical versus on the mpc one you got everything laid out right here in the center all your performance versus the computer and going in there and chopping it's like everything is laid out right in the center which is really cool to have i i that's why i said i prefer this layout a bit more versus the live mark ii [Music] now i'll jump over to the buttons these buttons are a lot different if you guys you know hear it there's you know you kind of don't really hear the click versus on the mpc one if you go to your main you can obviously hear that over here you don't uh in the beginning i did like this better because i i make music at night when my wife and my daughter i have a two-year-old daughter and again like i mentioned we live in a two-car garage so you know i try to be as quiet as i can so in the beginning this was cool because they don't make no sound and when i would make beats on the mpc one at 12 at night yes i had this noise machine playing in the background but these clicky buttons they are very loud and me when i'm making music i i get in my zone and i click these buttons i i know i would make some noise now this is really cool because yes it's very silent and very quiet but after a while i prefer these buttons a lot more because there's been multiple times where i'm going to go into my browser menu and i have to double click this and i think i double clicked it but sometimes i did not double click it and i don't know it's just not as you know like hey you did your click versus sometimes you just gotta double check and make sure you you clicked it again it's not a deal breaker but there's little small details like that that i like about the mpc one just a bit more versus the live mark ii [Music] [Applause] [Music] let's jump into some of the benefits or the extra stuff that you will get on the mpc live mark ii that you won't get on the mpc one uh real quick they both have an sd card slot uh the mpc one has it in the front the live mark ii has it in the back but the big difference here with the mpc live mark ii is that in the back of the live mark ii i don't know if you guys can see it you could install an ssd drive which is really cool because i installed i think i was like a 500 gigabyte ssd drive in here that's internal and i can load up so many samples right there which is kind of crazy i'm not going to load up 500 gigabytes worth of sounds me i'm a very simple person i'm very minimal with my samples i don't like having thousands of kicks i just like having about 10 to 20 kicks and snares hi-hats and working with those and once i get tired of those i'll delete them or save them into an external hard drive and refresh my memory so this is cool to have but i've noticed that it's not something that i'm really really using or that's like wow this is so cool plus the sd cards are really cheap you can get them for like 15 for like a 32 gigabyte which it's pretty crazy at least for me i don't fill those up [Music] now talking about the outputs that's where the mpc live mark ii shines uh this is huge for me i i kind of knew i was gonna like this but i didn't think i was gonna like it as much as i do now that i'm utilizing these extra outputs again this is not gonna be for everybody not everybody's gonna be this much of a nerd but for those of us that are some just audio nerds having these extra outputs i don't know if you guys can see it from this camera but this one has six outputs versus the mpc one only has two outputs having six outputs allows you for flexibility when you're standing out your tracks not only when you're standing out your tracks but also if you want to connect uh external audio gear such as the sp 404 mark ii i've done a video i'll put it somewhere up here where i utilize these extra outputs to run let's say my drums i want to run my drums through output six into a distortion pedal or into a 404 to give my drum some some texture to them you have that flexibility to do that and to finesse your sound a little bit more versus on the mpc one you just have your outputs one and two and that's it you don't have that flexibility again not everybody's going to use those extra outputs not only do i use them to run it into external audio gear but i also have my um apollo interface which is a 16 input and i run all these audios individually kick snare hi-hat and i do all my stemming out separately and i you know have a video on that so i'll let you guys see it up here right there i utilize those extra outputs which is really really cool to have now those are some of the main differences that i've noticed so far after watching this video let me know if these are a big issue for you if you know you you need what this has versus what that doesn't have um overall if i could be honest i enjoy the mpc one workflow a lot better but as you guys been watching my videos i've been using the mpc live mark ii a lot more versus the mpc one which is like why would i use this one when i like this workflow a lot better the difference between its workflow is not a huge deal breaker for me the reason why i'm sticking with the mpc live mark 2 most of the time it's going to be for its convenience this is just a very convenient machine to have when you need that portability and just having that portability for me personally is why i picked this up a lot more now if it were not for the portability and that wasn't a big issue for me it was just an extra to have i think i'd probably be using the mpc one a little bit more but just due to its portability i picked this up non-stop and now talking about its portability the battery life on the mpc live mark ii is amazing i mean i haven't really done a scientific test on it and seen how much it lasts but this thing will last me a very long time before i have to plug it back in and not only that but as you guys can see the mpc one you got this cable right here which you know it's just this is simple as a matter of fact i don't need that right there i can just have this machine and i'll take off these headphones i don't know why i've been having them on this whole time but i thought i was going to play some music through them i'll turn on the speaker and let you guys hear the speaker [Music] again i mean you guys are not really going to hear it as good with this microphone but it sounds really really cool the battery life runs for a very long time and just being able to unplug and walk out with this machine if i have to step outside i'm able to do it versus right here i would have to run an extension cord and it's just something that i've tried before and i don't really enjoy it now if you're somebody watching this video that owns the mpc one or the mpc live or if you own both of them let me know down in the comments if you have any input or if you would prefer those extra features that the mpc live offers versus you know what i don't really need all that again some of you guys don't need that portability this is a killer machine price wise the mpc one i've noticed has gone up a few dollars so it's very close to the same price i mean in my personal opinion if you get the mpc one or the mpc live you're for sure gonna be looking at the you know the thousand dollar range probably a little more than a thousand with the mpc live but they're very close in price but overall with the mpc workflow in general you guys know i really really enjoy the mpc workflow if you guys decide what the mpc one or the mpc live just letting you guys know this is a powerful powerful setup if you're on a budget and you know don't have that extra dollar to afford on the mpc live i'll put that to the side this mpc one i mean you guys probably know i have my computer back here my studio monitors i have tons of plugins in my interface what uh you know it's all cool to have that but if i could only have one piece of gear i would just get the mpc one or the mpc live and a pair of headphones and start right here uh honestly you can do it all with an npc workflow mixing mastering sampling sequencing and for a thousand dollars my personal opinion is worth every penny they're amazing machines and that's why i enjoy using the npcs now with that being said i'm not trying to sell you on one of these npcs but i just truly do enjoy the workflow if you guys have any questions let us know down in the comments and not just me but a lot of the people that are subscribed that own one of these machines are more than happy to share their input and i always learn a lot from you guys so again if you guys made it to the end of the video thank you so much for sticking around don't forget to hit the like button if you enjoyed it and also subscribe to the channel if you have not done so already thank you i'll catch y'all on our next video peace [Music] the
