good morning everybody how you doing today my name's andrew hi i'm granddad i'm daniel i'm matt i'm grandpa and we're some of the veggie boys and we'd like to thank you for stopping by welcome back everyone it's so nice to see you we have had an eventful day already first off the farm market and the animals are all taken care of but we did have a little issue when it came to the water bowl in this pen we had the water bowl locked down tight but the cows had broken it and knocked it over and it flooded the pen you can see where the water was draining so we took some bedding and we bed up the entire pen so it was nice and dry it's frustrating when something like that happens during the busiest part of the year but there's nothing you can do about it that's farming there's always gonna be another job dad already got the water bowl fixed for the cows and now we need a lot of sweet corn for the farm market we have an order for 400 years and we need two bins just for the farm market there goes the first load of sweet corn now that was an order that was 400 years for a local supermarket now we're gonna start picking our sweet corn uh we need quite a bit because the farm market has been really busy lately today out in the field we have joel and mai's father-in-law so our father-in-law came up from florida to see the baby andrew do you know what the difference between an in-law and an outlaw is outlaws are wanted sorry robert if anyone's curious the type of sweet corn we are picking is a variety called utopia utopia is a beautiful sweet corn and it has a really sweet flavor it's not our favorite but it is a really nice sweet corn we just got our second bin finished now when it comes to the sweet corn we raise three different varieties and the reason why we do that is because they're different day varieties so they come to maturity at different parts in the season when we go through with the planting and we have three different varieties that means that every single variety will be ready to harvest at a different time so we don't have to worry about any sweet corn going to waste because we didn't harvest it in time we always go back and forth between varieties but this year we're using providence utopia and montauk we just got finished picking the last variety we worked on was montauk this sweet corn is so easy to pool it's one of the reasons why i love it [Music] there's not much that looks as good as a truckload of sweetcorn these were the ones that we picked for the farm market and then this is the 400 years for that order [Music] the same place that got the 400 years of corn also needed a bushel of green beans so they just went through and picked them and they look really nice we just had some lunch and finished getting the order ready for that grocery store now we're heading back out to the field to start picking again we're gonna get started harvesting the cucurbits this afternoon we are gonna be working on the cucumbers and joel and daniel are gonna be working on zucchini candy hasn't been growing as much because we haven't had as much rain we haven't had much water it's been cooler so not everything's been growing as fast we just walked through and got all of our cucumbers harvested we actually didn't get too much today well compared to our other harvest we didn't get much but that's okay because the plants are getting older the produce doesn't look as nice it starts to get scarred as it gets older on the vine so what we did harvest looks really really nice and we'll be able to sell it through the farm market i have a veggie question okay what's your veggie question how long does the pickling cucumbers usually last from when they're ready to when they're about expired that is a great question and a lot of it is subject to the weather usually our plants will last for quite some time but as the weather cycle starts to change and when we have cooler nights it really starts to slow down in production in the area we live harvest is anywhere from four to six weeks depending on the weather good we've got our cucumbers harvested and now we've got our zucchini harvested all we have to do is pick them up and then move over to the peppers we didn't get too crazy of an amount but we got a really nice harvest today the farm market has been getting much busier as people are starting to get ready for canning season so our vegetables have just been flying off the shelves something that we need back at the farm market is some jalapenos and as you can see by this plant that has fallen over our jalapeno plants are loaded with peppers this isn't even all of them off that one plant wow try and be very careful not to take the plant with you sometimes it's very difficult when all these jalapenos are wrapped deep inside of it beautiful ones down here [Music] they're working on filling another basket of jalapenos but this was the first one we got they look really really nice as we're walking through and picking we're basically cleaning every single one off the plant but there's so many blossoms there that within the next week or two we'll be able to come back through and harvest [Music] we just got done harvesting some peppers we needed hot cherry jalapeno we needed some long hots cubanelle and italiano that should do us back at the farm market sometimes when you get back to the farm market it changes but this is what we needed when we left right now we have dad pulling off the wagon joel is down on this platform and then i'm up here with daniel and we're stacking you have to remember half of this barn is hay and now the rest of the half is straw we don't want to cover up any of that hay we've almost got finished in here it's very very warm and you can barely see anything there's like no light in here you need to squeeze i think you'd probably get maybe another 25 maybe 50 if you're crazy so the only section we could stack is up there in that corner and it's getting a little precarious that machine right there is a lifesaver if we did not have that this job would be much more difficult and what do you want how are we feeling boys are we okay i'm feeling okay i'm going to sit in the air condition tractor don't let them fool you the air conditioning doesn't work that good in that tractor we need to go get some broccoli and we also need some eggplant so we're heading back out to the field we took a little break we drank some water and now we're refreshed and ready to go not really however we do need broccoli and eggplant now if you look you may notice this spot this was where we had a little leftover ground it was coming to a little corner piece here and we didn't want to keep laying mulch so instead of doing that we took a lot of the older plants that we had at the farm market plants that we were selling to the customers and we brought them out here and planted them ourselves and this is to show our customers in the local area and you guys this broccoli looks really really nice and the neat thing about this broccoli is we planted in here we didn't really give it much attention and we didn't even water it so for those conditions i think it did pretty well [Music] this is what i like to see look at these heads of broccoli this just makes me hungry if i had some ranch with me we'd be having a feast [Music] we didn't need too much this is just for saturday so we got a bushel of broccoli hopefully that will hold us over you know lauren told me i'm really good at picking broccoli what does lauren know about picking broccoli it's still a little bit early when it comes to eggplant for us but we are finding some [Music] maybe we thought it was early but we're actually finding more than we thought that's a big old eggplant and just like that we got everything we needed after we got home we had to rearrange the cooler because the cooler was completely full and then after that we put everything away and closed up the farm market i'm gonna start feeding the animals for tonight over on the hill the boys are working on oat straw that's why we had to unload that wagon so we had enough room for the oat straw as we finished off the day joel was able to get his drone up into the air and record some of the oat straw harvest now we raise three different types of straw on the farm we raise a wheat straw an oat straw and a rye straw now what we use this straw for is basically selling through the farm market whether people are using it for decorations they're using it for planting grass or whatever their reason for using it we sell three different types to the people in our area right now we're using the 130 hooked up to our square baler now this square baler is unique because it has the special tool on the back called a kicker now this kicker helps out a lot when we're stacking wagons and the whole point of stacking these wagons is because we have no more room in our barns so we stack the wagons full and then park them in the shop and we sell the straw off the wagon now when it comes to bailing straw you want to bale the straw when it is dry it makes it a lot easier to store and it prevents the straw from molding and this day was no exception it was hot although it sure was a beautiful day out there and that was our last straw of the year and just like that we've got the animals taken care of we've got the farm market closed up now the boys are still out working they are bailing the rest of that oat straw but they should just about be finished all righty let's see what that's right it's date night tonight oh but that's okay because i'm really really tired i do not mind getting something out to eat tonight lauren and i are gonna be getting something from a local place because her parents are up we're gonna all eat together so that's pretty exciting so anyway that means this is where we're gonna end the video tonight we want to thank everyone for watching and we hope to see you next time bye bye
